(01:13):
and please welcome in our featured artists on this Friday.
It's always my favorite day of the week. She's high energy,
high octane, kicking ass out there taking names. And her
newest single out there across all the platforms is Hate
You First, which came out actually last year. But you
know what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, it's not very new anymore, is it?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Anderson of the program, What are you doing? My friend?
How you doing?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Brandon?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Is good to see good to see you, familiar face,
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
It sure is. And I say it's always new music
to me because anything released in twenty twenty four that's
still relevant out there, it's still a good thing.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
No, that's so true.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I'm definitely I'm taking my ever loving time putting out
new music.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
But I think sometimes it's nice.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
I mean, you know, you're you're a creator, and sometimes
it's nice to let things pricklate and simmer and make
sure it's exactly how you want them.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Big word there. I like that, perkolate zeb, I.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Say that right, I don't even know why I said
the word percolay.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
I'm like, where did that come up in my freaking
roller axe. I was homeschool. I got no business saying
a word like perck late.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Tell us about twenty twenty five and kind of what's
been going on, man, I know it's you mentioned taking
that time to release new music. Make sure it's not
just a project, but the right project and the right
song to put out this next wave of Abby Anderson.
Tell us all about it.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Oh, well, I don't want to say too much, honestly,
but I've been.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
I've been.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
You know, we're out.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
On the road where we got some shows with Miss
Stevie Nicks coming up in November.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
So that's pretty fun.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
That's that's I would couldn't even say that was like
a bucket list thing, because that's something I wouldn't have
even dreamt of. Brandon is opening for like one of
my favorite artists of all time.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
But we've been doing those shows.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
We've got some headlining shows I haven't announced yet, but
we're gonna announced those soon. And then yeah, just I've
been in the studio all year just writing my little
heart out, and it's been I think.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
For a long time, Like I put a lot of.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Pressure on myself to constantly like just release song, release song,
release a song. And I realized, like, man, I'm not
giving my fans enough credit, like they'll be here for
me when I get back, you know, And and I
want to show up as a great artist for everybody.
And so I think I took I took some time

(03:29):
this year to be like, Okay, what is what is
something I like actually want to put out into the
world and let it live forever? And how can I
be of the best service to the world. So just
little small life questions like that, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, and it's good to kind of take that step
back because we all need and I say this all
the time, because I can work myself to death, no
doubt and doing this radio show, but at the same
time to have that breath and that mix and that
balance of you know, work life and family life. And
you mentioned there too, one of your sisters. I just
got married. We're talking before the show. Congratulations on that.
So it's kind of cool to kind of step back

(04:07):
and really kind of smell the roses right a little bit.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
No, it is, and that's been the biggest blessing of
this year is like I've gotten to hang out with
my husband, hang out with my family, my friends, and
like that's given me so many songs. And I think
every day I wake up and I'm like, Okay, let's
write a song. And now I'm like, I can't keep
up with all the songs I want to write because.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
You know, I'm going outside and touching grass. So it's nice.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
I know some people that have those extracurricular activities they're doing,
like I'm gonna ride horses.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
I'm gonna go yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, kayaking or go to the beach more So, look,
we always want to I know everybody is person I
ever met that wants to work more and I want
to sit there. I'm like, ya, I want to work
less and play more.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Right.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yeah. Well, and it also it just never feels like
work either, Like even when we're.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Touring, I'm like, you get to see so much life,
You get to meet so many people you would have
never met before in any other line of work, and
that's always inspiring.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
It sure is. Hey, talk about your songwriting before we
dive into like see you mentioned the new music and
kind of what's coming out and what you can't say
and what you can't sale promotions, things like that. But
you know, it's kind of cool to hear an artist
kind of go back and talk about that when it
comes to thinking about ideas getting pitched something out there
too that may kind of fit their genre, fit, you know,
kind of what they're all about when it comes to
writing songs. Talk about what you look most forward to

(05:34):
and just your creative process.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Well, Brandon, to be honest, when you say creative process,
I think that's given me a little too much credit.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I don't have a process.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Like the way I look the way I really look
at it is like, you know, it's my job, and
it's a job like you show up to record your
show every single day, whether you feel like it or
not up And I kind of look at songwriter in
the same way. It's like that is what I do
for work. Thank goodness, it's a freaking awesome job. Sometimes

(06:10):
I really suck at my job, but either way, I
show up. I show up every way to every day
to do it. So as far as like the process goes,
like every day is different. You know, maybe the night
before I was I was out with some friends and
somebody said something really interesting and I.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Write about that the next day.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
I love putting myself in other people's shoes and listening
to people's stories and their perspectives and what they're going through.
And I do think that is something I'm good at,
and that's something I'm very thankful for that comes pretty naturally,
is being able to tell other people's stories for them

(06:55):
and then and hopefully that's something that everybody can relate to.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
That's not every everybody didn't have that creative process or
digital creative process and out there as a songwriter and
kind of speak for somebody else and talk about, you know,
the the different things that people are going through, the
trials and tribulations in their life. Well, i'll tell you what.
You and I can talk all day long because we've
done this thing called radio forever. For me, I've got
to play some music out there, and this song was
one of my favorites out there. It's Abby Anderson music

Welcome to another edition of Backstage Pass powered by the
Sports Guys Podcast with your host Brandon Morell.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
And back here Abby Anderson on the program first time
too dot com out there across all the DSPs, and
that one one of my favorites out there, Heart on
Fire in Mexico. She joined us here as our featured
artist Spotlight of the Week presented by Barkley Music and
Media and our friends over at JK. Subaru, the Morele
Law Firm, and of course the friends out there too,

(14:43):
And we appreciate everybody that does all the work out
there for the sponsors too as well, and definitely looking
at adding more as the time goes on there too,
and the show just continues to grow. You know you
mentioned this album when you put it back out there
in twenty twenty three. I thought this was a fantastic
some of your favorite songs that we're going to play
an the one here and just a little bit called
The Reason I Stayed, But for Heart on Fire. Yeah,

(15:04):
tell us about the arrangement of this one in a
little bit of the backstory.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Well, that's just the true story from coming from a
long line of crazy Mexicans, That's what that is, Brandon.
Not much imagination happened with that one. That's just straight
from my mama's lineage.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
That's what that is.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
That's some real Texas U s h I T right there.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Okay, these Spelli boars right there, so we know a
lot about that too.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
Love that one.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
It's a banker, no doubt. Off that record too. Give
me some of the highlights and just some things you
were most proud of. There was a lot of cool
songs off of their too, which was awesome. Ain't Gone
Yet which really set the tone for it. This guy
Highway Cry a lot of the cool things, and this
album that I did real well for you too, right.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
It did, yes, And honestly, like I wasn't expecting it
to do well or anything like I think when you
make things, you know, so it's it's maybe how to
like not have expectations. I think I knew Heart on
Fire was like gonna do pretty good because I was
teasing out on TikTok and everything.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
People seem to like the story.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
But this was just a collection of song I really
just picked, like how many songs are on that set
nine six whatever, just picked songs that I loved and
that I was playing out for shows. And I was
just so inspired by like the desert in Texas and
where my mom came from and getting into like all

(16:29):
my ancestry and the stories that come from my family,
and so I was just really really kind of neck
deep in my old Paso Texas girl era.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
I love that one Texas guy to one Texas gal
out there. We know how it is what I'm saying.
I love this one too, because just a lot of
fun off of this too, because this album Sugar Spice,
I love bringing this up. Yeah, fun things off of here.
Man Bad Posture was such a great song till everybody.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
You well that Posture came from the idea of me
slouching a kids you not a kids you not me
and my friend Anna Voss, who if you guys don't
know who she is, she is an incredible songwriter, singer artist,
look her up. But we were at my apartment. This
was back in like twenty twenty one. I had just

(17:18):
left my first record deal. And you probably know this, Brandon,
There's nothing more depressing than like getting what you want.
And so I got out of this record deal, got
what I wanted. Everything like would have should have been
was going great, and I was just so freaking sad,
and I was just really down. I wasn't sure what

(17:41):
where my career was going, what I was gonna do,
but I knew I needed to keep creating. And me
and Anna are sitting in my little apartment just this
too young thing. We're both like twenty three at the
time and thinking life was over, you know, as dramatic
twenty three year old girl artists. And I'm sitting on

(18:02):
my on my little desk where my keyboard was, and
I was just slouched over and I was like, man,
I got bad posture.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
And we both kind of looked at each other like, well,
that's a cool title.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
And we were both going through similar things in life
and our career and just realizing like all the people
we needed to break free from and and all these
people and opinions.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
That were just weighing us down.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
At least I've definitely felt that, and people always just
had a lot to say about.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Me and everything I was doing wrong, and I was.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Do this and I'm do that, and just feeling really
really insecure because of that, and bad posture came from it.
So I look back on that and one thing I
was sound proud of myself for is any any bad
thing I didn't like to say, a bad thing, any
hard thing that I've been through, and I was definitely

(18:58):
a year that was hard. I made something of it.
I created something from it. And not to get all preachy,
but I hope whoever's listening to this, I just that's
my hope with that song is that no matter what
you're going through, there is something to be created from it.
There's an equal seat of opportunity being planted because of it.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
And that song taught me that for sure.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
No, it's a great song, no doubt love it. Any's
something we can all learn from these songs, all right.
The million dollar question from that album I got to
go back to because people ask me this question a lot,
and I be here to answer too. Sugar Spice fantastic album,
but there was a song on there too, And we
don't always get the answer to the questions we want
here on the show. But you got to talk to
the artist, got to go dig a little bit deeper
off that record. It was nine songs and this was

(19:46):
a July album twenty twenty two when it came out.
Where did all the Cowboys go? Can you answer with me?

Speaker 3 (19:53):
What all the where all the cowboys go?

Speaker 1 (19:55):
They're marrying Anderson girls. That's where they went, They're at
the freaking Anderson House trying to get a day with
all my sisters as where they are eating my mom's Tamali's.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yeah, I love this song, love the arrangement. A lot
of cool things with this one too. And this was
also one of your high streaming tunes out there.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Yes, and I'm I'm so thankful for that that song too,
And that was actually that was a song I had written.
There was like deep, deep, deep in the archives of
that first record deal I was in, and I was
never allowed to like put it out, and I always
thought it was such a great song. So the second
I became independent, I was like, I'm putting this freaking song.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Out, and I think I always thought it was great.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Hey, how cool is it too? Just to see it now? Man,
I really go back to the nineties country, you know
what I grew up onto in my early radio days
looking back at it, and it's just so much fun
to see this lady's this class now when you think, yeah,
lady's doing, but all the great women behind her, and
you're right there in this new class of ladies next
women of country, And how cool is it to see,

(21:04):
you know? For an artist like you, to motivate you
to continue doing what you're doing, and just to see
these ladies, you know, kick an ass right now.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Oh my gosh, it's it's awesome and it's so inspiring,
you know, and it's awesome. Rand It's like I always
know I'm in the rights arena. When I feel a little.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Jealous, I think, and maybe it's I don't know if it's.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
You know, I know it's not like the feeling we're
supposed to feel in life.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
But heck, yeah, I got jealous sometimes.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
But I like to think it puts a little pep
in my step of like when I see my girlfriend's
out there doing cool things and I'm like, dang, Like
why didn't I do that? Why didn't I think of that?
Like I know I'm in the I'm playing in the
right field, you know.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
No you are. And like I said, you're right there
in this next Women of Country And like I said,
you've had all the great attention on you from CMT
and all these different publications out there, and now the
backstage pass is out there, no doubt about it. Here
for over the next to a few years too. Hey,
we're not gonna let this. You mentioned this for I
play the song too. We're not gonna let another two
or three years go by to stay in touch with
each other, because it's been kind of a hot minute

(22:08):

the shuffle. I'll tell you what else is gonna come
up here on the show. First to Hit the Road

First to hit the Road was the last record, and
like I said, I'm sure she's gonna be first hit
the Road in twenty twenty six with the music coming
out there, Abby Anderson back here on the backstage pass
powered by the Sports Guys podcast dot com the Grand

(29:30):
Slam with music, sports and entertainment out there. All right,
so let's talk all about it, my friend. The reason
I stay, I think this was a great and people
will see on the video side of things coming up
at the website, and we put the MP four version
of the show out coming up this weekend, a beautiful
acoustic piano version of this stuff, so highlight that too.

(29:52):
And this song really connected with me and connected with
a lot of your fans, right, I.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Mean, I'm glad to connect almostatic connected with you, acts.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
Like are you okay, Brandon? Do you talk about it?

Speaker 2 (30:08):
She's get interview me. Now watch.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Go write new song real quick, real quick.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Here comes the other therapy out of it to see
all right, that's right, just a great song to it,
and honestly, look it. Look it just goes to show
your true talent in this industry, which is beyond just
the true colors. I love it. So much, And the
fact is you can do so much and make this
song shine and you and you really did.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Thank you, thank you for saying that. Wait, what did
you want me to like talk about it or.

Speaker 6 (30:41):
Something I forgotten?

Speaker 2 (30:43):
You absolutely?

Speaker 3 (30:45):
You know I can yep now this I'm trying to
remember where I will. Oh. So this was I wrote
this in January.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Of twenty three and me and my buddy Bo Bailey
were sitting on the back and I had this melody
and I had like a lot of that chorus written
and I actually wrote this from the perspective of someone
in my life or I love so so so much,

(31:16):
and they were just going through I was watched, having
to watch them from a bird's eye view, not know
their worth, and also being in a position where like
I couldn't really tell them like, hey, you need to leave,
Like you need to leave this person.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
This person's actually.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Crazy and they're ruining your life, you know, I just
got I had to sit and watch and like watch
how you know. It made the person I love a
little crazier and doubt themselves. And so that's where this
song came from. And even now it's like taking on
a new meeting in my life like I look at

(31:56):
it and I'm like, man, yeah, there's been times where
I've forgot my worth and I stayed in a situation
way longer than I should have, you know, because the
good times are good and the bad times are bad,
and sometimes it's hard to know when to leave.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
It is too And I'll say this now, you're right,
I'd love to outpour here and talk about this too,
because look, happily married for fifteen years coming up, which
is still crazy. And it's a beautiful daughter now too,
she's almost six years old. Looking back and watching her go,
you know, one of the best things we ever did
to become parents. It definitely changed your life for the better.
And I'll say that you know, look, fifteen years we

(32:35):
had our ups and downs, but hey, many reasons, and
like I said, you know who you come home to
at the end of the night, and why got to
marry my best friend which I did to The song
just really hits you because you know you've been through
the ups and downs. Any marriage, anything out there has
had their problems too. And nobody's you know, skated through
life on the road to perfection too. It takes a

(32:55):
lot of work and marriage is a lot of work,
and like, trust me, there's days where she I'm soalm,
she's tired and we got to figure out what we're
gonna eat. There's days I come home, you gotta go. Hey,
that's why they said through sickness and in health, right, Yeah,
did that too, Hey. I mentioned that first record to
talk of the show, a little three songs at EP
that was out there too, or a three three song

(33:17):
record for Hate You First, for people that have not
heard it out there. Talk about this one the last October,
I know you mentioned like taking the time and step back,
smell the roses, similar little bit to release make sure
the right song. But this was really cool because that
song I had talked about, you know, personal connection, a
lot of things for Hate You First. And then I
loved Lighthouse off of there too. Talk about this thank you.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
Yeah, we got both.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Both of these are just like emotionally heavy. I'm like, jeez,
I'm gonna light up a little bit. I'd like to
think I was writing my saddest songs on the happiest
in line. Hate You First is a song about forgiveness,
but it is it's it's a song for anybody who

(34:01):
is having a hard time getting there. And I'm a
strong believer that sometimes getting a little angry and getting
all those old feelings out is the necessary steps to
forgive this. And that's what hate You first was for me,
was getting all the gunk out so that I can
move on. And then what was what was the second one?

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Lighthouse?

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Lighthouse?

Speaker 1 (34:27):
Yeah, all right, my you know some of my my
mom won't mind you sharing this, but I actually wrote
that while I was planning my wedding and it was
twenty twenty one, and our family we were just going
through a lot of stuff, a lot of stuff, and
I was stressed out of my mind thinking about all

(34:49):
of my blood in the same room at the same time,
just so worried about people getting along and who's going
to be fighting, and you know how divorces go, And
that's where that came from. Was just again a song
about forgiveness. It was just a song kind of bleeding
with a lot of people in my life, like let's
move on. Let's you know, I can forgive you, if

(35:13):
you can forgive me, and let's let's put this the
whole thing to rest.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
You know, when you look at you mentioned the next
projects and things that are coming out for what you
can say. Are you guys looking at something here latter
part last quarter of twenty twenty five? Are you looking
more twenty twenty six for releases? Now, what's going I think.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Right now we're well, I got my eyes set on
a release day in twenty twenty five, part sure, which
is gonna be a little fun Christmas, well, I don't
want to say through Christmas vibes, okay.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
And then twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Six, yeah, I think is when we're gonna be coming
out the floodgates with the whole new era, new new
outfits and everything.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Brandon, I gotta get to a show here in Texas.
What I'm saying, new outfits and some like little bit,
some video shots, some camera stuff, all that good stuff.
So look, I've checked out Abby Anderson music dot Com.
You should too. I'll never leave you guys as straight
here on the program. Will always put the best of
the best artists here on the backstage past. All right, Well,

(36:14):
I know you just like me. I've been back in
the routine of waking up at four o'clock in the morning,
back to the gym. I'm like, I really want to
do this, and.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
I'm like I'm definitely not up at four am, Brandon.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
But these hit classes have become painful. I heard this
last week and stuff like that. But of course you
know what I'm seeing results. I love the gym. That's
awesome for your escape and things out there and hobbies.
I know fitness is very important to you talking about
the downtime and going to the gym and that's a
big thing. And other things you like to do.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
When it comes to hobbies, well, I like to drink, no,
I know seres that.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
I love being with my sisters. I love being my friends.
I love me and my husband both. We love going
to restaurants and try new food. If I would say,
like me personally, I love going out for a morning walk,
just freaking touching a tree, talking to God every morning.
I'm a big journaler, so if you were a fly

(37:20):
on the wall in my house, you'd see me every
single morning on the back porch durn journaling away and
then go from my little walk and then come back
to the house and start writing.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
That's it. Good hobbies to have right there, dude. I'm
like you love walks, love hikes, things like that to
get out there. And just like you said, nug a
tree and enjoy a little bit of that fresh air.
Of course, we're still waiting for cooler temperatures to come
in here in Texas. I don't know, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Don't think that's ever gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Well that'll that will may be happen, and it's always
February and then it's like freaking ice.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
It's like there's no winter. It is heat or ice.
There's no between.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
We always have a dad or looking back at it,
you know, you mentioned all these great things. I had
a Kolbe Calai on the show last week, and I
tell you a cool thing that she did. She took
some of her old hits and actually brought him back
to life, and she got to do it a bunch
of the songs with some of her top talent there.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
I was listening to that with like Lee Brice said, Yeah,
I was listening to that interview.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
She was really you know, I just really how she
opened up to us really cool and of course, you know,
just a great personality. Love for music too. But if
you could choose to do it with anybody out there
that you have not already or work on a collaboration,
who would it be? Male or female artist.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Oh, Vince Gille that's always been that's always been my dream.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
I love his voice so much. He's a goat.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
And then the female side, where would you go that
to that direction?

Speaker 5 (38:48):
Man?

Speaker 1 (38:48):
There's this, Oh, there's a lot. There's actually a lot
of up and coming girls.

Speaker 6 (38:54):
I really love.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
There's this girl artist right now, Lacey k Booth.

Speaker 6 (38:58):
Oh yeah, I think she is so Oh.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
My gosh, she's so freaking awesome. So I think doing
a song with her would be really fun. I think
we would sound good together.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Yeah, good friends with her dad. So he actually played
with the little man named mostly a guy named Tracy
Bird who we've all heard of down her from no Way. Yeah,
Jody Booth now Jody very well too. We did some
rodeo stuff a few years ago at the Houston Stock
Showing Rodeo, which is the big one down here. We
got to do some some live stuff back in twenty
nineteen before all the chaos happened. Enjoyed that too. And

(39:28):
Jody's such a great musician out there too. And good
to see Lacey Kate doing.

Speaker 6 (39:31):
Her perfect I know she's killing it.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Killing it she is too, And like I said, she's
right there in the Abbey Anderson category. Yeah, this is
always fun, all right. You mentioned food trying new things,
So what toppings go on the Abby Anderson pizza?

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Ooh, everything sausage. I like mushrooms, frigging I like everything
everything on it?

Speaker 12 (39:54):
All right?

Speaker 2 (39:54):
If you never were a working musician, what other career
path would you have taken?

Speaker 1 (39:59):
I love psychology. I would have loved a therapist. Are
the a therapists or like something in or like a coach,
like something in self help or something in biology, like
a like a holistic doctor.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
Oh I like that. Yeah, she was trying to pull
out my therapy from that song.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
Why no, I love I love, I drive my husband nuts.
I'm like, well, let's like dissect that, like.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
It's fascinating.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
