How are you doing.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I'm doing well, Thank you so much. It's great to
be here.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
It's a little it's there's sleep right now, a little
bit of rain. It's going to snow later here in Nashville.
But I'm doing great.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's doing good.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
We're getting ready for that holiday season, right.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yes, and you're in Texas, you.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Said, Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, I get a Texas holiday season coming up. I'll
be spending some time in San Antonio coming up in
the next few weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
So my husband John and I we were just in
San Antonio.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I was working with my friend Chris Betz of Seline Lostinos,
who is actually featured on the track We're going to
one of the tracks we're going to talk about today
in La Yourona and he of course was in Seline
Lostinos and group of Mattal So we're very familiar with
San Antonio and played a show out there with Louis
the singer who's a Texas musician as well.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
You know what's it like for you kind of going
off and playing different markets. It's something You've been doing
this for a long time. You know what this is about.
I mean, like I said, you've married into that country
music royalty. I'll always say with the last name Cash too.
But you've been doing this a long time, and it's
so it just gets better and better than when it
comes to performing on stage and interacting to an audience.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Right, Yes, I really love what I do. I've done
it since I was a child.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
You know. I started early on TV with like Univision
Spanish language networks because I'm from Miami, and for those
that don't know my background, I'm Cuban American, so I
grew up in a bilingual household essentially.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
And then you know, later on, like all.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Those appearances and my work recording led to a record
deal as a teenager in the Spanish language because that's
where all the Spanish language record labels were based. They
were based in my hometown of Miami, so that was
my first shot.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
It was my first chance.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
And then years later, after college, I moved to Los
Angeles and that was very eye opening for me as well.
I did acting auditions. I still recorded music out there.
It was very cinematic. I learned a lot about myself.
I did a lot of live shows. Then eventually John
and I met and we started dating. I moved to Nashville.
Now we're married to kids. But I've always loved country
(02:53):
music even before coming to Nashville and seeing all kinds
of genres, so now essentially kind of blending the country
music with a lot of music. It's been amazing because
I've gotten to live the best at both worlds, and
I perform regularly on the Grand Ole Opry. I'll be
performing on the Grand O Opry with John this Saturday,
December sixth.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Super excited.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I will be performing my new holiday song One More Year,
as well as a duet of baby It's Cold Outside
with John Carter and Jackson.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
It's really awesome that you get to do that too,
especially when people always talk about, you know, performing at
the grandell Opry. You've had a chance to take in
a lot of shows there too, and see a lot
of up and coming talent, you know, make their debuts
or go back and kind of do some recurring performances
out there too. And every time I'm sure you guys
step on that stage and it has to be surreal
in that moment, it has to be just really mind blowing.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Right, it truly is. You know.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I feel very fortunate to be singing in that legendary venue.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
It's an iconic stage. To know where several of your
heroes have stepped before you.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
And that continue to be on that stage. It's pretty incredible,
but it's home. You know for me, Nashville is home,
it's been home for eleven years, and Miami is also home,
my hometown.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Let's talk about this latest single. Let'll tell you what first.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
We got to play it here too, because I hope
my Spanish is really good when I introduce this song

Speaker 3 (10:04):
And welcome back here to the show again, Anna Christina
Cash joining us here. So I mentioned you had something
very special when this came out. It definitely it's one
reason we had to have you back on there the
end of October when it came out. This arrangement with
Chris Perez is fantastic.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I love it. Talk about this one how it came together,
because La Rna is a beautiful track, it really is.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Yes, So Chris Betis, we met like nearly a year
ago at this point, almost like several several months back
through our mutual friend Julian Raymond of Big Machine Records,
and he came to mining John Carter Studio, the Cash
Cabin Studio, which was built by his father, Johnny Cash,
my husband's father in the seventies essentially, and we decided
(10:49):
we're going to do several sessions with Chris. He's an
amazing guitar player, an incredible rock guitar player, but he's
very versatile. Clearly he's played to Hano a lot of
music and he can play a bit of everything.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
We had session set to do with him.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
So we recorded several songs together and I had this
idea essentially to do La Yourna because it's a gorgeous
folklore song from Mexico and I'm Cuban American, he's Mexican American,
and I thought this would be a great way to
kind of like do something and make it our own.
And I decided to write English lyrics to the second
(11:23):
verse and second chorus, so it's really like a Spanglish hybridge,
which I don't think i'd ever been done with that
song before. It's always just been in Spanish, so it
really is its own version, and the idea was to
have the English lyrics in there to explain to the
Anglo speaking audience kind of what the historical classical song
meant essentially. So we released it around Day of the
(11:45):
Dead and Chris actually played the Grand ol Opry with John.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Carter and I as well.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
I fantastic artist out there, to a lot of collaborations
with a lot of great artists too. I love this
song and almost wanted to play it here on the show.
And I still might, like said, it's my masho, I
can do what I want to do. But I love
it because you mentioned about Miami growing up. But this
song hit the perfect title with Florida Girl. Tell us
all about this one in the arrangement, how it came together.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Oh yeah, so Florida Girl. I was very nostalgic.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
You know, I'm releasing the full EP in January of
all this stuff, but Florida Girl was one of the singles,
so you know, second verse, I believe talks about my grandmother.
She I used to be in her neighborhood all the
time in the ice cream truck, used to come buy
and never came by my parents' house for some reason.
So when i'd stayed up Weeila's house, my grandma's house,
she used to give me some money. She used to
(12:33):
give me, you know, a few quarters and everything to
pay for ice cream.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
And I'd hear the chime. So there's that. And then
the imagery in the first verse is about orange growths.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Essentially, we had orange trees in our backyard in the
very first house that I ever grew up in, Like
before we moved when I was five and a half.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
It was rural.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
It was close to the Everglades. There were no houses
there at the time. Now it is over developed. Now
you go back in their many homes just aligned next
to each other. But back in the day, there were
only four houses and that were spread out. And I
was in the wilderness out there in Florida, and there
were gators and there were panthers, and there were just
orange trees and that's about it. So I have a
(13:13):
very you know, when people remember their childhood, remember their
life as a toddler.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Even I still can.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I can close my eyes and picture that backyard still,
and I can see the orange trees and I could
see the little birds in their nests in the tree.
So essentially it is about, you know, kind of owning
your past, going through life, growing up, making mistakes, and
realizing that no matter where you go, your home is
always in your heart.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Sure is too.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
I love Texas a lot here too, and that's one
of those things that never leaves you. No matter if
you leave town and move away for many, many years,
You're always going to find a way back or your
heart's going to be in that one place called home.
And I want to get your opinion on this latest
female just man is Gauntlet, if you will, of just
great superstars coming out right now and really getting they're calling,
(14:00):
not just with what Queen Bee Lady's doing out there too,
but any you just line them up A to Z
right now. I mean there's every female country artist doing
their thing. What does that mean to the industry and
looking back, especially for you as an artist, it gives
you momentum moving forward to and I think this is
kind of overdue for ladies.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
And country music.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
I really feel.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
So I'm really proud of everyone. I think everyone, like
all the ladies are really stepping up. They've always, you know,
women in country music have always done amazing work. But
I know that there were through some controversy about country
radio and female artists in country for a while. So
I'm hoping now with all of these great releases and
the support that female urists and country music will continue
(14:39):
to rise, and they always have.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
That's the thing. It's like when I fell in love
with country music, you know, it was in the nineties.
I was a kid.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
There was Shania Twain, there was Faith Hill, the Dixie Chicks,
Martina McBride. These are the powerhouses that were around and
on the radio. They dominated the radio in the nineties,
so you know, when all that controversy sort of happened,
re I was kind of taken aback by that because
that's you know, when I was listening to country music.
(15:06):
The most I have to mention Leanne too. LeAnn Rimes
was a huge influence on me. Her voice was and
that was all like ninety two thousands country essentially. So
I feel like there's a resurgence in that right now,
and again, so many of the male country artists are
amazing as well. Like country in general, everyone's just really
doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
And of course just coming off those CMA Awards, Congratulations
to all the talent and the winners out there too.
Fantastic award show too. Do you get a chance to
watch some of that award show?
Speaker 4 (15:36):
I did, And I love Laney very much.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I know you mentioned Lanny, So she was on the
Grand Ole Opry Show with John Carter Cash and my
husband and I honoring his parents, Johnny and June, So
she got to sing on that show with us. She
is the nicest person ever. Honestly, she's just such a kind,
amazing person. She did a wonderful job as a host.
Luke Colmbs we know and Luke did a wonderful job.
(15:59):
Steven Miller, Stephen Wilson. Stephen Wilson. I was not as
familiar with his music and I was so impressed by him.
He performed twice on the show Shaboozie I love again. Like,
there's so many people Meg Maroney, Ella Langley, you know,
so many, so many cool artists. Now.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
I loved the performance for Vince Gill the tribute with
Brandy and Patty loveless. That was incredible.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Fantastic performance there too.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
So I got a question for you too, So when
is the Anna Christina Cash CMA debut going to be
on stage?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
I'm waiting for that, you know.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
Oh, boy, who knows. I keep working, I keep trucking
along with my songs, so we'll see you.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Know, yeah, Bob good vibes. We continue to put that
out there, y'all. Remember telling Lanny when I had her
a couple of years back, and I said, you know what,
you're gonna blow up in those next few years, And
you know what she said, Oh, I'm just being modest
and I'm gonna be appreciate the opinion. Glad for your fire,
I said, but I'm going to make some pretty good
predictions here on the show. So it's it's a good
thing we see Anna Christina Cash's name right there too
(16:59):
in that See A Award show too, because I could
see you right there in that new Artist category in
the category two.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Well, they're both amazing, you know, like they're kicking some
butt right now, and they look like good people.
Speaker 12 (17:11):
I know.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
I have not met Ella personally, but she seems really cool,
seems like a good person for sure. And Laney I
do know personally, and she's amazing and has not lost
her humility I feel, which is great.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Yeah, she's a superstar, no doubt too, and always very
humble in this business. Well, let me ask you about Daybreak.
This one came out at the beginning of August. I
want to get a little backstory on this one.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yeah, so Daybreak I wrote that with Willy Breeding with
Gabriella Skoto, and it was right after Jimmy Buffett had
passed away. So I was thinking about Jimmy Buffett songs,
and I was thinking about writing possibly a summer song,
and we're just kind of the three of us in
the studio, and you know, as Willy started playing chords
a chord progression, the title Daybreak came to mind, and
(17:58):
then all of us kind of shaped together and it
became a really great summer song. And then we have
its Spanish version, Oombreak, that I co wrote with Jody
mar She helped me with the Spanish version of that,
and we did a video. My step son Joseph Cash
shot the video at the Cash Cabin and it was
a performance video at the cabin, and I've gotten to
(18:18):
perform it in many places.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
I got to perform it on the Grand O Opry
actually with Charlie McCoy.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Charlie legendary harmonica player that played on all the Dylan
stuff and the Johnny Cash records and thousands of recordings.
He played the harmonica on the actual recording of Daybreak
and Homebreak.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
So I was lucky that he was in town and
we were able to get him to perform it on
the Opry with me. So I was thrilled.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
That was like one of the highlights of my life.
I love Charlie McCoy. Actually he lived in Miami for
some time of his life too.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
He was telling me a great phenomenal superstar out there too.
I'll tell you what we love this Christmas time is

Christina Cash. You're on the backstage past KYPN ninety eight

Speaker 2 (23:00):
And welcome back here to the show again.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
One more Year. Fantastic song there too. On the backstage past.
You mentioned the opry stuff going on coming up this weekend. Fantastic.
I love this and just another great collection in your
catalog of songs that really uplift people. We're such in
a world now where it's so fast paced and instagratification
that I think sometimes we all forget to kind of
step back and really realize that every day above ground
(23:25):
is a good day.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
And you put out a song like this which is fantastic.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Thank you so so.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
One More Year also has a Spanish language counterpart, Unan Yomas,
and it was written and produced by Emilio Estefon Junior,
who's like the number number one I think Billboard called
him recently in Billboard like the number one Latin producer
of the twentieth and twenty first century.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
He's amazing.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
So I've the history with Emilios that I've known him
since I was a kid. I first walked into a
studio qressin Moon Studios when I was fourteen years old.
And of course everybody knows his wife, Gloria estefan global
icon superstar. Again, one of the most humble people you'll
ever meet.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
As well. Gloria is so incredible. They both are.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
They're so hard working, and they're incredibly hard workers. So
they have Crescent Woond Studios, and I recorded a lot
of my first record actually at Crescent Woon Studios, like
the vocals for my Spanish language debut. And when I
visited with Emilio in Miami in June, he played me
this song and he thought it would be a great
fit for my voice, and we decided to collab on it.
So he is featured as a special guest on it
(24:26):
because he does play on it and he says Merry Christmas,
and so we kind of scrambled to shoot the video recently.
We shot the video just last week and it'll be
premiering very soon. It's all edited and done. So we
shot it at Christmas Wonderland Park in Miami and they
had big old Christmas sets there already and luckily like
(24:48):
all those sets were there. But it looks crazy, It
looks pretty crazy. It is very joyful, very happy, probably
one of the happiest things I've ever seen and released.
So super thrilled.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Well, definitely send me that video, can actually put it
up on our website showcases to people out there.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Would love to do that for you, Yes, thinks, well,
it's already finished, so yeah, we'll get that to you
as as soon as possible, for sure, for good.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Love that too again one more year from Anti Christina
cash Out there too the Sports guyspodcast dot com. I
love this title for this one. This came out, I
believe late May. We had just come back from a
CRS a few months after that too, and Cheap Margarita's
You Cannot Have a Character's song. It has two words
like that too, that really suffice what country is all about.
(25:31):
And those two words go together, don't they.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Yeah, So I had a big blast That was an
early summer release for me, and it was written by
Willie Breeding, Erica Ender, Frank Ray and Jess Caine, and
with Erica Ander did the Spanglish version essentially, and so
many people. I can't tell you how many people have
sent me videos of themselves with that song in the background,
(25:55):
on TikTok and on Instagram with the Cheap Margarita song.
You know, they'd get their Margarita's wherever they were, if
they were at home or they're at a bar. I
got one from somebody's office. They were having an office
party and they were all just having a ball. I
didn't know Margarita's could spark so much happiness in so
many people.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
It apparently does.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
And it's really a fun drink, you know. It's it's
very colorful, it's festive, it's exciting. And I get so
many comments on that song, like, so many comments.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
It's fun.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
It's a fun song for a country song out there. Tude,
you mentioned that sanguish version. I've got a chance to
hear that. At the same time, there was there a
music video for Cheap Margarita's.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
There is a music video for Cheap Margarita's. Yes, in
both English and Spanish.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
You can feel free to play that one because that
one was already released as well. If you need it
from my team, they'll send it. But it's on YouTube
right now as well. And actually when we were we
were able to get it in Shibuyah crossing in Japan,
so there was a billboard of it like a you know,
one of those led electronic billboards flashing the.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Video in part English, part Japanese. It was crazy.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I love that. That's amazing, part Japanese and part English too.
Love that.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
I know you began the year too, and we may
have talked and no time has flown too, but Last
Call was one of my favorite ones to kind of
begin the year in January. Tell us all about that one.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Yes, the Last Call I love too.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
It's very melodic and it has a rock and roll
sensibility more so than a lot of the songs on
the EP. And I wrote that with Jody mar And
you know, it's one that I love to sing live.
You know, it's really is a go to for me
to sing live, and it's very comfortable in my range.
And last Call it had two different innuendos. One was
like a last call from jail essentially, and the other
(27:41):
one was like last call at a bar you know
what I mean.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
But definitely is an ultimatum type song.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
It's about empowerment, it's about okay, like get your stuff
straight or you're out of here kind of song.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Essentially, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
So plans for the holidays kind of hanging around Nashville
or you and John Carter doing any traveling.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
Yes, So we are spending Christmas and Christmas Eve with
my family in Miami. It's gonna be amazing. We're taking
the kids down there.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
They make a mix of Cuban food and traditional New
Year's Eve food in my culture, you know, because aside
from being Cuban American, I have roots from Spain as well,
and this is where this comes from comes from. You're
supposed to eat twelve grapes before midnight on New Year's Eve.
But New Year's Eve we're actually spending in Nashville because
I'm taping a show for CNN that's going to be
(28:29):
aired during the day with John in several countries, actually
taping that here, so it's like the Nashville New Year's
Eve show. So I think it's an Abu Dhabi in Madrid,
in Dubai kind of just like across the world.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
They're airing this. I'm very excited. And then at night
we do a show at the Ryman with Ocrow Medicine
Show and catch.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Seaport good stuff right there too, and definitely I'm with
you too. It's all about tradition for the holidays, so
it's for me. It's like, okay, gotta have the ham
got to have the tamales, is no doubt about it,
and got to have at some point the turkey and
whatever else.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Manudo manudo, I love manudo mnudo.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
You know what, Tamala's are a great idea.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
I don't know why nobody in my family brings tamala is,
Like they bring all sorts of things, but tamalas, and
they're so easy to make and like to get in Miami.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
I should bring some, so thank you for the idea.
There's a dessert that's you know I grew up with.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
It's made out of yuca sort and it has like
a sweet syrup and annis and it's called a bunuelo
and it's in the figure eight. It's like few fry
it and it's like a figure eight. And that's also
something very Spanish and Cuban as well. But like the
Ham is like my favorite. I love a good honey
baked ham situation.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Those are always the best, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Any good books you've gotten to kind of get into lately,
no matter what type of if it's mystery or if
it's you know, the the crime books or anything like that,
do you like to read?
Speaker 2 (29:51):
And if you do, what do you get into?
Speaker 4 (29:53):
I do.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
I'm a poetry person, honestly, Like as much as I
love books and I love reading them, for sure, I
really love poetry. So Sylvia Plath, Ralph Waldo Emerson, the
old school ones, Ruby Kowar, She's a newer poet that
I really like as well. Like I'm a lyrics person,
so I'm really you know, it goes hand in hand
(30:15):
with songwriting. I write a lot of poetry myself.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
So all right, well, I know'll finish with this one too,
because you're making those kid runs out there too. You
got to pick them up to at the same time.
But always love to have you back because we can
go on all day with I love talking.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
To you, I love trying you, and you understand the
parent things. So think you about that snow coming I got.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
To pick up So I never a working musician what
other career path might you have taken for an occupation.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
I feel like I would have been a librarian or
a teacher. I honestly, I would have loved to have
been a librarian, Like no joke.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
I love books. I love being around literature, and.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
I think that's sort of like the the more introspective
version of me. But also I studied broadcast journalism. That
was a thought too, essentially, But for me, I wasn't
all about getting in the vans and all of that business.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
You know what I mean. I'm warm. I'd like to
like stan stay.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Back, so I love that too.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
And I tell you what, I hope to see you
at the Country Radio Seminar, which takes place March eighteenth
to twenty AETH there in Nashville, Tennessee. Looking forward to
sitting down with you and getting more of the extended interviews,

so I look forward to chatting with you again for.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Sure, and hopefully no snow and a lot warmer.
Speaker 12 (31:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Well, you remember last year. How cold that was.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
There was snow like crazy and I actually had to
stay across the street because I couldn't make it from
where I lived so that could attend CRS.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
It was like a blizzard, I think, is what it was.
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Well yep, sliding all over the road and memories galore,
but you know what, you did it with you and
we all came back in one piece. He I appreciate
you so much and thank you for always making some
