Loving you is easy. We love her. Here on the
backstage past my good friend Ashley Windlan's the program. How
you doing?
Speaker 3 (01:20):
I'm doing great?
Speaker 1 (01:21):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
I'm so happy to be.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Here, always great to have you.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
You know, it's funny. I was thinking of a memory
today and you actually started me off. Twenty nineteen, twenty
twenty somewhere in there you and I met, and I
go back to your brilliant career with all the songs
you put out there, and you've been doing this thing
well over a decade now too. But isn't it crazy?
It's been a hot minute since you and I talked last.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
When we were talking about it before we started recording,
I had that moment where it's like, is it really
been over six years now since the initial meeting? I
time flies, man, I just am blown every time.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
No doubt it's crazy. I got my little ones now
going to kindergarten, and I'm like to see her grow
up now and her personality changes and everything. But I mean,
I go back with you to Daddy's Creed and I'm
Gonna Ride and all these great songs you put out
there too. Hey, talk about this one out of the box.
We're I'll play it. Loving You is easy. This has
got to be exciting to get a lot of the
new music into the fans.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
Hands.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Course, we'll talk about time after time one that you
released there in June looking back. But this new song
a lot of good flavor, a lot of good feel
to it, and great storytelling right.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Absolutely, I honestly feel like this is really a hallmark
to the new era of sound that I'm currently in. Obviously,
my previous releases last year with Tumbleweed and Heartbreak Boots
and those songs crank it up even We're really the
true beginning of what this next record is going to
look like for me.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
But Loving You is easy.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I feel like it's something completely fresh and new that
I don't think anybody in.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
My fan base we totally expect from me.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But I had so much fun writing this one. I
wrote it with Marty Fredrickson out of Nashville. He's producing it.
I also were with Evan Frederickson and Nathan Wallace writing
in and producing it all together. And talk about a
song that is such a fun energy, it's a bop.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I decided that I was.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Gonna break out of my mold as a songwriter and
write a song about a relationship gone right, love being good.
You know, we female country artists get put in that
little stereotypical box about writing about all the things that
then do wrong and stuff like that. But I think
what's also fun about this song too, is is it's
not just a relationship focus lens. You could honestly be
(03:32):
singing it about anybody. So it's fun. It's got a
lot of flavor. I think it's a really great summer tune,
and I'm so excited that we are premiering it here
with you guys today.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, thanks for letting us do this so you always
love premiere. We're not gonna waste any time here. Loving
you is easy on the backstage pass again thanks to

You know I mentioned all these great ladies actually kind
of doing their thing right now. I know we've talked
about this over the last few years that we've done
a bunch of these shows and looking back, they build
an audience. But the female category, my friend, is on
fire at this moment right now. It's crazy, not just
what Lanny Wilson has done these past few years, but
give me kind of your perspective on this whole female class,
(09:31):
from Priscilla Block to Ella Langley to the names go
on and on. This is to be really good for
someone like you in this female category country music, right,
I think it's great.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
I love to see that there's so many women out
there right now that are well first and foremost.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Putting out just high quality, impaccable music.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
I mean, there's so many artists out there that I
have such a deep respect for and the music they're
producing and the records they're putting out. I don't even
if you weren't a country fan, I feel like they
have such strong legs. But then also I've been really
excited to see everybody really step up in the stage
performance area and put on just really high energy, entertaining shows.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Being an independent myself and having done this for years
and now, I've definitely come across the stereotypes that in
the perceptions even that females and country music can't put
on entertaining shows, they can't draw crowds, And I think
there's so many artists now out there that are just
proving that wrong.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I'm happy to be amongst that category.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Two.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
So you know, I am championing for my fellow females
in the industry to continue to grow and thrive and.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Prosper no doubt too.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
And then we'll continue to do that too with a
lot of great females in the country music category at
this time. And let's go back to gym a little
bit too. And I know it's August right now, but
looking back at it puts your old rendition on a huge,
huge classic at Cindy Lapper, time after time, love this
love your take on it? How did this idea come about?
And I know you had to be not just a
country music growing up with a fan of Cindy Lauper too, right.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Absolutely, we were in the studio actually working on a
bunch of other music for my upcoming record, and we
got to just talking about songs that we really love
and that stand the test of time, and time after
time by Cindy Lauper was one of those ones that
definitely came up, and we were sitting there being creative
writing other songs like loving You Is Easy and recording
(11:22):
some other ones that fans will be here and here soon.
But yeah, we got to talk about that one and
just how much we loved it and how the roots
of it really when you listen to it, are a
country record, and we just all kind of looked at
each other and went, while we're in here, we might
as well do something fun with it, and so we
decided to just take the reins over on that and
put our own spin on it. So it was really
(11:44):
fun collaborating with Marty and the rest of the team
to really build our vision for what this song was.
And we really did put an exerted effort into making
sure that we still gave the roots and the bones
of the original rendition in our version while also then
making a little bit more contemporary and also definitely more
(12:07):
country and.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Sound as well. So it was a really fun project
to work on.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
So I admire Cindy Lauper so much as just an
artist who really knows who she is a fantastic songwriter,
not just with her own catalog, but in other people's
catalogs as well. So it was it was again really
fun and in a way and honor to be able
to put my own twist on some amazing work that
she's done.
Speaker 2 (12:29):

Chandler Marie music dot Com. In her latest single You're
Not in Mine it was time after Time there and
Sendy Laffer classic done by the great Ashley Winland out
there too as well. Have been a huge guest in
our show for the last few years. I love her
sound out there too. Hey talk about you know, plans
and goals and know this is hard to forecast, but
now we're talking what second third quarter of the year
now and looking forward what you're kind of excited about
(18:36):
mostly I mean obviously putting out new music for the
rest of this year, but bigger projects that you're allowed
to talk about. It was kind of the skinny on
that a little bit too, what you're most excited about.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
I like that you preface that with that you're allowed
to talk about, right, because you always have so many
things going on behind the scenes that we work on
for so long that we're not allowed to talk about
for a while. But looking forward, obviously I'm coming up
close to the end of my touring season, so that's
something I'm really looking forward to.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Studio work and working on new music.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
As I've mentioned before, my fourth studio album is in
the works right now, so that'll be coming out here
soon likely the beginning of twenty twenty six, so everybody
can keep.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Their eyes out for that.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
In the meantime, though, I'll have some other singles that'll
be coming out towards the end of the year as well.
So honestly, I'm just looking forward to getting back home,
getting in the studio, making some more music videos, making
some more music, and just enjoying that that time to really,
like I said, shape this new era sound and be
(19:39):
able to have new things to deliver to fans.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
When touring season comes back around next year, You'll be.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Ready for it, no doubt. Yeah, But tour season comes
back around there to at the same time, Hey, talk
to me about one of the most important things out there.
I had just the great Sunny Sweney on the other day.
We did a show with her talking about her and
your record too. But how do you take care of
the instrument vocal cords? Is there like a whiskey you
drink or is there something like that you do with
drinking lots of water? How do you take care of
the vocals?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
It's almost like a Korean skincare program.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
There's like eight million steps I feel like to keeping
everything functioning for me personally, I have like a regimen
that I go through that usually involves things like steaming
and saltwater gargles, a lot of throat coat tea, and
just staying hydrated of course, doing like proper warm ups
(20:29):
and cool downs and sleep honestly, just to keep everything
fresh and as put together as possible.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
I mean, just this week alone, I got like five shows,
So I'm hanging on for dear life in some cases
to make it to the end of the week.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
But I'm also very grateful at the same time to
have that many performances back to back each and every week.
So yeah, I definitely have to stay on top of it.
But it's it's work. It's its own little job in
itself to keep it all functioning.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, no doubt too. And like I said, collect those
paychecks while you can, to make that rent payment, put
food on the table. Hey, you got to balance all
that too. That's why you know it's so important, And
we talked about this over the last few years that
we've done these shows. To have that team behind you,
both from the management standpoint, the booking age at the
PR kind of put that in a nutsheld for me,
the importance of a team behind me.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
My goodness, I wouldn't be able to accomplish a fraction
of what I do without my team. And we even
like jokingly call ourselves a small but mighty team because
when you really add it up, at the end of
the day, there's myself and maybe three other core team
members that are just working twenty four to seven to
(21:41):
make everything possible. And I'm so grateful that I've been
able to expand my team to, you know, be more
like four or five total that are working on anything
at any given time over the years. But yeah, you
can't do it yourself. You can try, and I give
anybody kudos if they can somehow manage to do it all.
But for me, having my team is so important, and
(22:04):
just being able to have a support system at the
end of the day to fall back on is really
the biggest thing, because, yeah, trying to juggle, because when
you're an independent especially, you're wearing at least eight different
hats at any given time between the creative side and
then the business side on top of than anything else
(22:25):
that you might have to manage in your personal life.
So it's a juggling act for sure, but having good
people around you definitely help.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yep, right through with you too. Independent podcasters, same thing today.
It was like another invoice, okay, sponsor this, so make
sure you get that sent off fill out of W
nine exactly. You know how it goes when you run
your own business. Looking back at it too over the years,
to keep the key looks, to keep the train on
the tracks. Hey, let's back up to last year in May.
One that I really enjoyed listening to was Crank it Up.
(22:55):
Give us a little backstory of that one.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
So that one was actually a later edition in relation
to some of the other songs I have off of
this upcoming record. I was in the studio working with
Marty and he said, hey, you know, I have this
song and Carrie Underwood was a co writer on it
and everything, and he's like, I think your voice would
sound amazing on it.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
What do you think? And he played it for me
and I was just like one hundred percent yes, I
want to track this really bad.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
And so you know, we went through, got all the
songwriter's approvals and everything, and we loved it so much
that I really wanted it to be the first single out.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Like I said, this is a whole new Arrow sound
for me. And songwriting.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
So I felt like this one just had the energy
that I was trying to capture with all this new
music that I'm doing. It was a really great representation
of my working dynamic with Marty, and of course, like
I said, with Carrie being a songwriter on it as well,
that was just like a huge moment for me as
just an artist and fan of hers in general. So yeah,
(24:04):
we put that one out there into the world first
to just say, hey, you know, we're here. This is
the voice, this is the sound, We're here to crank
it up. And I actually named my tour after it
last year, so you went on I Crank it Up
Tour and got to entertain people. And then, of course,
like I said, released a couple other singles last year
as well that kind of had the same energy, same vibe.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
So love the song there. So you got to ask
you about mentioned back to time after time to send
you a love for classic out there, the spin you
put on it too. Give me a little backstory of
the artwork, because I love the fact that we were
kind of wearing that beautiful hat. You got some of
the cool colors that kind of blend in real well
with each other. You got your name kind of in
those white letters, and I love in the background you've
got that old pocket watch kind of sitting on there too.
(24:47):
How did you guys come about the artwork?
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Well, so I always envisioned in my head when I
was thinking about the song and the energy is and
if you watch the music video you can kind of
see where my train of thought went with just reminiscing
on past moments in life.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
And I just saw vintage clocks.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
And so I got with my one team member, Kiki,
and we put our minds together, and I told her,
I was like, I see vintage clocks and just almost
that antique kind of feel to it while also still
having a modernness to it. And she, I feel like,
just knocked it out of the ballpark. She took all
(25:26):
my ramblings and Pinterest board kind of scribbles and piece
them all together to make the cover art. And yeah,
I just think it really captures to your point, that
that blend of each You.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Know, you've done a lot in your career and you've
done this a long time too, But give me maybe
a bucket list item that is still kind of on
that list to accomplish.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Oh goodness, I mean I feel like the list kind
of keeps going on. I've had the pleasure of hitting
many milestones. I think for me personally, some of my
ones that I still would love to hit is I
would obviously love to get into a venue like an
Opry or you know, a Red Rock, just something really
iconic that's just kind of on everybody's I want to
(26:12):
play here list, especially though, like the Opry, because for
me personally, I think nothing would just heal my soul
more than to be able to take my family out
and sit them in the audience for a performance like that.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
I know my grandpa would probably start crying over.
Speaker 14 (26:28):
Something like that.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
But you know, also for me too, I would love
to see a day where I could take one of
my songs and get it on mainstream country radio as well.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
I feel like those kind of two things, especially as independent.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Obviously it's a little bit more difficult to achieve, but
I have I have full faith we can make it
happen one day one of the tours.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Going strong, it's moments in toime? Is that correct? What's
kind of going on right there, you guys? I mean
city to city. Check out a website Ashleywindlin dot com.
Out there too as well. I know there's huge dates
coming up out there, and you're at a city near
someone out there.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Too, right, Yes, Yeah, Like I said, we've been out
for almost five months now, but there's still more dates
to come. I know, we got some places out in Minnesota,
we're going to be hitting up South Dakota, even California.
We got quite a few events to remaining on this tour,
so I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody, and we've
(27:25):
been able to visit so many wonderful places. We got
to go up to the Northeast coast for the first
time this year and play in New York and Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts,
all those places, so for me that was really exciting.
And then, like I said, to be able to really
go west to California and hit my fans up up
out there, it's been super cool. So I'm just, like
(27:46):
I said, really grateful that we've been able to bring
our music and our live show and create moments in
time with people all over the country and take those photos.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
And I know you're one of the ones, and I
can't wait to get you a live show to see
you one day because I've always looking at her list.
Is she coming to Texas? Is she coming to Texas?
And I'm looking back to.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
You and everybody else. Man, I'm trying. It's not for
a lack of effort.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Well, when you do, trust me, I want to be
sitting in front road courtesy of you. I'll let you
know and a good thing, and you'll mind me being
your guest out there. I'd love to come see you
play live when it comes down to it too. At
the same time, Hey, if you weren't a working musician,
what other career path would you have taken?
Speaker 1 (28:24):
You know, I think about this occasionally. I could tell
you what, like teenage me would have thought at the time.
And I really wanted to go to like vet school
and stuff. That dream was squashed for me after taking
chemistry my sophomore year at high school, because I just
realized that that was so not my jam. But you know,
(28:45):
for meally these days, I would think that I would
still be doing something entertainment related. You just might find
me more on the back end side of it than
necessarily being the front person, so doing more like businessman
and that sort of stuff.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
I love entertainment too much. I feel like to fully
step away.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
You'd find me finding some way, somehow to still be involved.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Yeah. So that's what I say about this to entertainment.
It's where I belong and yet definitely I find myself
if not hosting a radio show, I'd find myself in
some capacity of entertainment out there. Right, we'll finish up
with this one too. So I had a great week
and I just I missed you there. If you were there,
I missed you. You know, doubt coming buy the booth
there for CMA Week this year in June there too
for CMA Fest, the the second one we got to cover.
(29:32):
So I'll just I miss you in person. I wanted
done to see I wanted to have to come by
the booth and everything, but I know your tour was
going strong. Things like that, unless we just didn't cross
path and you were there. But uh, I got a
chance to check out some new restaurants in Nashville. And
cool thing is there's something on every corner for everybody.
So when you go there, you travel for a show,
you just travel for leisure. Write a song you're setting
(29:53):
up for right, things like that. Where do you guys
like to go hang out? What do you like to
eat at?
Speaker 3 (29:57):
So there's the nash House. There's the Row, which their
sister venues.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
And I only say this because they literally have the
exact same menu, they're just under two different names.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
But the Row especially I love to go to. That
particular building just has a lot of history.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
It's right down the street from my studio, and I
love it so much because they have some of the
best fried pickles I've ever had, So if you're a
fried pickle person, that is one hundred percent of the
place you should go.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
They have this like white barbecue sauce that also goes
with it to die for.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
It is one of those things that every time I
end up back in Nashville and I always make a stop.
It's almost mandatory at this point that if I'm in
the city, I'm going to eat there at some point.
But they also have just really great like southern comfort
food as well, so that's one of my favorite places.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Definitely have to check that out next time we're in
down for CRS twenty twenty six, and of course after that,
c may Wig will come around in June as it
always does. There twenty twenty six and still a few
