(00:32):
Today's Best Country BX and our friends at All About
It RV's of course Sunday June eighth, Sunday Morning Country
there at the Grand O Loprey. Looking forward to that too.
You're truly here too. And Caden Gordon there, one of
the hottest names in country music right now. She had
a whirlwind of a time there on this seasons of
American Idol, and at least welcome in her new song
Higher Is across all the DSPs and what number one

(00:53):
of iTunes? Brianna knicks to the program. Brianna, how you doing?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
I'm doing so good?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
How are you guys?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I'm doing good. Like I'm me. I've seen the whirlwind
in the crazy last few months you've had on this
competition called American Idol. Take me through your journey from
the audition, which I know was kind of like I like,
she's the underdog. She's coming in here, too exciting to
participating in this competition. Audition for it. Love your story.
Take everybody through that timeline of things from the audition

(01:19):
to where kind of where you're at right now.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Well, I started back in August of twenty twenty four.
I anonymously just put my video in. I just felt
something in my heart like hey, just go for it.
But I didn't tell anybody in my family, including my husband,
because I was just too afraid that if I didn't
get accepted, that I would be embarrassed inside. Just submitted it.
And then I remember about a couple of weeks later,
I checked back in on my email to actually work

(01:43):
with someone that signed up to coach with me, and
I saw a notification through American Idol and they said
they accepted it and wanted to see me again, and
I'm like, oh my gosh, what's going on. This is
so crazy. It's I told my husband about it, and
I almost didn't do it because I was just too afraid,
and he's like, no, babe, you gotta do it, like
push through go. I remember getting on the zoom call,
getting passed through that and then facing the judges. I

(02:05):
was so so scared. I was like, man, I don't
even have to get a yes. I just need to
get through this moment, and this is what I need
to do, just to prove to myself that I can
do something that scares me half to death. But I
ended up getting through yeses. And this whole journey has
just been about pushing myself. I've always dreamed of being
an artist, but never really believed that I could, and

(02:25):
so every round that I got passed, I'm like, wow,
God is just pushing me even further and further into
this thing that scares me to death. And I just
remember pursuing it with my whole entire heart. And I
landed in the top three, which was just insane. And
so it's been a journey to say in the least.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, give me the toughest part of that competition as
you go through every round to Like I said, even
just to make it to Hollywood is a feed in itself,
but having to go through all the things they put
you through in Hollywood to understand what it's like to
collaborate with other artists in there too as well. Also
that the solo rounds get tough too, and then the
competitions and then on out too when you get more
rigorous and more intense and song choice and wardrobe choice

(03:04):
and then you have theme weeks. Talk about that for me.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah, I mean it was definitely intimidating. I think the
hardest part for this journey was going that month without
my family. I had never been away from my husband
or just anybody in general. I've always been close by
to everybody. And having to go up there and do
something that was already super scary, but also having to
do it alone. It was very hard. And there were

(03:28):
so many times where I'm like, man, I cannot do this,
especially after hearing the people that were singing beside me
for the same spot, and I'm like, what did I
get myself into? But every single time, you know, God
just kept reminding me that this is exactly where I
was supposed to be. But throughout the journey when it
was super intimidating, it was actually such a learning lesson
for me. I've grown so much and I was able

(03:49):
to meet amazing, amazing friends. And you do go through
a lot on the journey. You get a lot of
no sleep, no sleep, a lot of songs thrown at you,
a lot of last minute changes, and that's really what's
in the music industry just in itself. So it really
just taught me a lot. And yeah, I was it

(04:10):
was a crazy ride, and it is honestly kind of
sad that it's over. I come home and it's been
a week since I've been here and I've kind of
had like a culture shock. I'm like, what a sleep?
How do you rest? I should be going, I should
be hitting it. So, yeah, it's definitely something that really
taught me a lot.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, I'm sure the competition actually prepared you for life
after the show, because people say, like you said, when
you're on there, it's just just a whorldwad of emotion
and going through the different rounds and of course America's
choice in the voting and things like that, but getting
off the show now and you have that downtime. It's
people say, you know, the real work begins when you
get off a show like that. Would you agree?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
I would one hundred percent agree. I was actually just
preparing for all the chaos that is now. You know,
I have my rest and I have my quietness, But
at the same time, this is like go time. You know,
this is where it actually begins. It's just when you
think you're resting, it's in a different type of environment
for work that you're in, if that makes any sense.
And so I would one hundred percent agree to that.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Looking back at like I said, growing up knowing this
thing was to pursue a dream and become a singer
and an artist and a singer songwriter. Give me some
of those artists that really that you kind of looked
up to from a country music standpoint, and any genre
is like, who kind of did it for you? In
the artists category, uh, for.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Number one was Carrie Underwood. I was super shocked when
I found out she was a judge. I had no idea,
so I was panicking having to sing in front of her.
But she has been a very big influential artist in
my life, alongside George Straight, Martina McBride, just so many
good people out there, but they have been the main three.
Alongside Adell and Lauren Diggle who's a Christian artist, Danny

(05:46):
Goki and Brandon Lake who's actually coming up and stuff
like that. They've all inspired me in different ways, and
that's where I am right now because of them.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
It's no doubt. Let me ask you about this single
we're gonna play here today on the backstage pack to hire.
When you got the debut single and you got the
word about it went number one on iTunes, I'm sure
the emotions went through you like crazy. But it's a
great song.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
First of all, thank you so much. I remember driving
actually to the airport to come back home to the
Dallas area, and I had notifications all over my phone
that it was a number one hit, and I was like,
no way. So I went and checked it out myself,
and I remember just looking down at my phone, I'm like,
what in the world, And I just begin to bawl
and cry because just me nine months ago, eight months ago,

(06:32):
I never would have dreamed that this could be my
reality right now. And this song is all about inspiring
people just to continue to keep going and rising up
against the challenges in life and not letting life keep
you while you're down, but just getting up and continuing
on and pursuing. So it's just crazy that I accomplish
all I did, and now the song was number one.
It's it's been awesome.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
I love that too. I love you of the theme
weeks that they put there, especially, one of my favorites
is just Disney Week, and I think the reason is
my daughter now. She loves watching it with me too,
and there's a meaning behind it for her now that
she's old enough to kind of understand what the competition
is all about too, So she loves anything Disney. Was
that a fun week for you? Was that challenging? Give
me a little taste of Disney Week?

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Disney was amazing. I will say it was challenging for
me because I've never truly I love Disney first of all,
but I've never truly sang a Disney song, and so
trying to learn all of the ways to make your
voice sound Disney was kind of like a little not intimidating,
but a little, uh, I don't know, just out of
my comfort zone. But I really loved it because you know,

(07:34):
I have a little boy, he's four years old, and
he's at the same kind of mindset where Disney is
like his favorite thing to do. Watch all the Disney movies,
listen to all the Disney songs. So it was really special.
It was really awesome.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Well, i'll tell you what special is this number one
song on iTunes out there from Brianna Nicks recently on
this season's American Idol. It's called Higher. If you want
an uplifting song here it is KKTC True Country ninety
nine point ninety backstage passing her friends at KYB and
nine point one year Bay Area Broadcasting Network Don't Forget Live.

Brianna Nick is actually gonna be at CMA Fest. Are
doing a big American idol kind of like say a
lum thing, but you're taking some of your best friends
from this season and to get that with the song
higher there from Brianna Next year on the backstage past

(12:55):
special event. Brianna coming up. I believe it's June fourth.
They're in Nashville, Tennessee. You're going to be a part
of it too as well. We'll get to another special
event coming up, which really personifies the grand Ole Opry.
But I'll lose another one June and fourth with some
American idol alum from this season. Correct.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Yes, it's so exciting. We're all getting back together right
after the show and we're singing some of our favorite
songs and just having a good old time. It's like
a family reunion.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
I might have to come out to that event. I
just might have to make an appearance.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
I think you should. I think you'll really enjoy it.
You get to see it live, see us all hang
out together and kind of have the show just one
more time together.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Looking forward to that. Hey, let's talk about we mentioned higher.
There just such an uplifting tune there too, and people
need to hear it and such. Just I feel like
a negative world sometimes I don't even watch the news
anymore too. But it really it's about overcoming obstacles. I
know you studied that in the tune too, and it's
such a beautifully well done your vocals. You really kill
it on this single. I can't wait to see what's next.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Coming down the pipe too, you know, Yeah, for sure,
I have some really exciting things planned. Hire is definitely
the song that should have been always will be part
of my journey, and I'm hoping that it will be
part of other people's journey down the road with what
they achieved through it.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
All Right, So one of my favorite guys of the season.
I'm sure you got to become good friends with John Foster.
Just losing a boy down there, A country's corn brand.
I can tell you that right now too. From what
he put out with his debut single Funny Moments. Anything
interesting about John that you can kind of tell the
listeners out there too, whether it's kind of a little
funny side thing too, or he's just a great guy.

(14:29):
Seems like a great guy, didn't He is.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
A great guy. I will say. John is cool, calm
and collected. That's what I would say about him. He
freaks out and he's nervous, but you'll never be able
to tell unless you look down at his legs. He'll
usually be shaking them up and down. But he'll walk
up on stage and kill it every single time. And
he's super respectful, just want like one of a kind, truly.
I just love John and we really created a great
friendship over the season.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
You know, his ride secrets went through every week, you know,
tim the lights and here come the vote and things
like this. I got to astonished because this season, to me,
was the best season with some of the best talent
that they've had in the twenty plus seasons that they've done.
And it's like, you hear more people owe nineteen million,
twenty million, twenty six million votes come in. You heard
those staggering numbers like that that America was out there

(15:14):
voting and watching, and of course it is one of
the most you know, most watched TV reality shows of
all time. And as those numbers went up, what went
through your mind?

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Honestly, I couldn't even believe I was standing on the stage.
But also I couldn't believe that I was getting through
another round, that I was part of that number. And
just like I think, after the voting happens and you
go sit down and you're like, holy crap, like I
made another round. I'm part of that nineteen million or
that twenty two million people that voted for me to
be on the show. It just it really is overwhelming,

(15:45):
and it's just it makes me feel just so much gratitude.
You know, I'm just so thankful that people are believing
in me and also furthering my life with my my
music and changing it for my kid and my husband.
It's just it's so overwhelming, and it really just makes
you like sit back and just think, you know, just
how amazing God is, but also just how amazing this

(16:06):
opportunity is.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
All right, tell me about that finale too, right there?
You mentioned top three, but also a special moment on
that finale too, sharing the stage with one of your
idols too. I know had a lot of things had
to go through your mind of that taking stage singing
song with someone you looked up to growing up too.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Right, Yes, for sure that that was something in itself.
I will never forget that moment. I didn't know who
I was singing with until just about two days before,
and when I finally figured out who it was, I
just remember like what, like freaking out, like how is this? Up?

Speaker 7 (16:38):
At eight?

Speaker 1 (16:39):
There's not even so many cool, amazing people that I
got to meet, but he's definitely been one that I've
been wanting to meet but also sing with. And I
remember going into the rehearsal room and just freaking out.
I could hardly sing, hardly look at him, but that
moment was just so surreal. You know, on the show,
I talked a little bit about my story with rejection
and my own father, and I just thought it was crazy,

(16:59):
how God I really just orchestrated the whole time that
I was there on the show. But even ending the show,
we sang a song called Daddy's DNA, And you know,
going in there, I had no idea who I was,
and I had all these feelings of rejection and just
feeling like I was not enough. But I ended the
show singing about my heavenly father and you know how
he knows me by name and how he's accepted me,

(17:21):
And it was just crazy, and I'm just so blessed
that I had the opportunity to sing with him.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Brandon Lake is one of the best out there too.
We're referring to there that do it on the finale
there too. You know, I was going to ask you
because self care becomes a huge important part in this
industry too, and I've seen you post some videos out
there too when it comes to you know, self care
and working out things like that too. I'll recently have
been on that journey too, to be a better father,
just a better mentor. And I think I've lost about
thirty two pounds wow, six seven months myself, you know,

(17:48):
getting in the gym and you know, getting up and
working out five six am. But self care becomes so important,
especially in the music industry because you're out there working
so hard, you're playing so many shows throughout the year,
you're doing interviews. It's just a weird hair talk about
that lifestyle change and how hard that was to commit
to that, But when you did, mentally, it's probably making
you a lot better too, right, It's.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
One hundred percent made me better. I mean, just learning
to eat correctly, also learning the things at the gym,
that's all been a journey in itself, but putting the
two together, it's made me realize, you know, if I
can put my mind to it for not just a
couple of weeks, but for literally years and lose over
one hundred and twenty five pounds, I can do anything
I want to because at the end of the day,

(18:30):
the only person that holds you back is yourself. And
that's exactly just like in the music industry. You know,
there's so many things like on American Idol. That scared
me half to death and I could have just given up,
But going through that experience with my weight loss journey,
I obviously just kept pushing through and it led me
to where I am right now. And so they definitely
go hand to hand. And it's honestly just a mindset

(18:51):
overall with anything that you want to achieve, you can
just go after as long as you never give up.
If you're continually trying, you can't ever fail.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
And it's the truth, no doubt, good words for everybody
to heat done advice. So I gotta ask you about Emerson.
I thought it was adorable being at a father now
have a five year old too. It was pretty cool
to see kids get captured to the moment there too
when he was in Carrie Underwood's arm and he fell
asleep when you sang Jesus take the wheel and just
such a great kid. I guess two part of here,
what was that moment like to see Carrie hold your

(19:20):
son in the audition and then two looking back at
it too, as well as to sing right in front
of somebody you idolized.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
That moment will go down to history as one of
the scariest but best days of my life. I remember
having them in my arms and it was a very
long day. He was already getting kind of tired, and
I'm like, man, this is going to go so bad,
Like he is going to go in there, He's going
to start crying. And I didn't really know what to do.
He was going to stand by me and just hold

(19:46):
my hand while I sang. But then naturally, I was like, hey,
can you just hold him, Carrie, And next thing you know,
he was in her arms and I was just kind
of taking it, giving it a chance and close my
eyes for a minute, looked up and he was asleep,
and it just gave me piece, you know, because it
reminded me of all the times that I've held him
and just sang him to sleep. And he fell asleep
in that moment, and I think he really stole the

(20:08):
show that day. And it's just it was crazy. I
love Carrie Underwood. She's so influential in so many ways.
But she just took my little boy in and snuggled
him and allowed me to go on through with my dream.
So it's gonna be a moment I'll never forget.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Special moment stood out now has Emerson shown any I
know he's still young, but any musical talents kind of
coming out of him since he's seen a mom on
the on the show.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
For sure, I mean even before the show. The show.
My husband is very heavily involved in music as well,
so we're a very musical family. We travel a lot
to sing at different churches, and Emerson really loves to
sing hisself. He's actually saying Brandon Lake Gratitude as his
first song ever. So that was just so crazy getting
to stand by him and tell him about that moment
with you know, my little boy. But he wants to

(20:53):
play the drums, and he practiced on He practices on
basically everything, any pan that he could find, any door
that he can find, any chair. So I'm really hoping
that'll get a hold of it and we can maybe
start our own little Knicks fan.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
I love that a Knicks fan likely right, Cool and
Brandon next year on the backstage past KYB and ninety
eight point one, your Bay Area Broadcasting Network and our
friends KKTC True Country ninety nine point nine. All right,
I know we talked a little bit about this before
the show, and I hope to get over there and
see it not only at the Idle event June fourth,
but there's also a big week coming up in this
thing called the Grand Old Opry. Now I'm putting Brandon

(21:26):
Nicks making her debut on the famous stage on the
one hundredth year anniversary. Now the Grand ol Opera AM
six fifty WSM two, which I know very well because
my show was on their last fall. We did a
lot of shows on that station. But how about this
filling the blank Brandon next Grand Old Opry making her debut.
Tell me about that?

Speaker 1 (21:45):
That is crazy. It's really weird to hear my name
alongside the Grand Ole Opry. I still feel like I'm
in a dream. Just this whole past year. It's just
been a bunch of crazy, That's all I say. And
it's all God, It's not me. He's the one who
has opened the door. And I'm just thankful to be
used and be a vessel and I can't wait to
get out there and fulfill my dream but also inspire

(22:07):
other people. I'm really hoping and praying that when I
get on the Opry stage that someone who feels down
and out and discouraged and just hopeless will walk and
leave feeling inspired and changed by the power of God
that they may fill through my voice. And that's what
I'm asking God to do. You just fill me with
this presence and allow me just to encourage people and

(22:28):
tell them just to keep giving one more day even
if they feel like they don't have it, you know.
And yeah, it's crazy, Grenda loverry. Isn't that insane? It's crazy?
So just want to inspire.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
You've heard it too, no doubt, my friend love that too.
All right, some goals and some things you got planned now, No,
it's hard to kind of forecast the future, but if
you look down the road for the rest of now
twenty twenty five and leading into twenty twenty six. Now
you mentioned some exciting things in your camp. What are
you most looking forward to for personal goals?

Speaker 1 (22:57):
For personal goals, I think just getting my own music
out there, you know, like I have a song higher
obviously already, but just getting more and more of my
songs out there. And I want to go on tour.
I don't have anything booked at this moment, but that's
a big goal of mine. I want to go out
on tour and maybe go on tour with Brandon Lake
if I can just speak go into existence, that would

(23:18):
be amazing. But I'm just excited really just to get
my name a little bit further out there and meet
people and hug their necks. And yeah, I love that too.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
I always hugged. Next is a good thing out there too, networking,
marketing and putting yourself out there. No doubt she's going
to catch up to the great tour out there too.
All right, we'll close it with these last two. If
you were not going to be a musician professionally, which
thank god you did because you're very good attitude, no doubt.
Was there another career that would have been another occupation
that it's singing not worked out, What else would you
have done for an occupation.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
I was kind of already going down the road of
weight loss coaching. I started a little small thing on
online business for teaching people how to lose weight. So
if music didn't work out, I would have and I'm
still going to, but I would have a one hundred
percent just pursued that, which woul would which would kind
of have been sad, you know, because I've always longed
for a music career, But that was kind of like

(24:12):
my plan B if plan A didn't work out, and
I'm so thankful that plan A so far as working out.
So to God be the glory.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Waity day is gonna work out just by all right.
The brand the next favorite food or foods out there?
What category do you fit in when it becomes a food?

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Anything Mexican? I love Mexican food. Honestly, I'm a big
I used to not be this way, but I'm a
big person of trying new things. My husband has got
me out of my comfort zone and so I love
to try anything that I've never tried before. So Indian food,
Greek food, Mexican food, whatever it is, I'll try it
at least one time. But if I'm trying just to

(24:49):
cure a craving of mine, it's usually hot Cheetos with
slim gems, pickles and diet coke all over the place.
But yeah, I'm a big snack kind of.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
I love it. What a combination of food they're at
the end, all right. So I always told myself my
spirit animal would be one day a shark, because I'm
tenacious and I love to, you know, get in the water.
I love swimming. I just love the fact, you know,
never give up attitude, that kind of thing too, and
a little bit kind of you know, dicey when he
gets out there sometimes, but just that aggressive, never give

(25:21):
up attitude. So my spirit animal would be a shark.
What would yours be?

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Man, That's a hard question, Honestly, there's so many out there.
I would say probably just a lion, maybe because I'm
just I'm fierce, and I'm strong, and I'm bold, and
I'm ready to go chase whatever I need to to
make things happen, you know, So I'd probably say a lion.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
