Broadcasting Network, and of course THWN dot org and the
Sports Guys so podcast dot com now top search of
iHeartRadio podcast too as well. We stay busy here too.
Some great shows coming up over the next few weeks

(00:42):
till we kind of wind down for those holidays. Here
and please to welcome back a show favorite NFL football,
college football. He used to call him an analyst sometimes
because we talk a lot out there. Bucky heard of
the Righteous Brothers. My friend, How you doing, brother?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I am so so good bred.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
How you doing, brother good?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
You know, football season for me is kind of winding down,
so now I get a chance to kind of play
those fantasy leagues and look at them a little bit more,
and you know, trying to win some extra money, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, as long as you win the ones
that are the most lucrative, that's that's you know, if
you're in ten and you win the big one, that's good.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Definitely, Yeah, the first prize what you want to take
home to at the same time, right now for your
schedule too, it's got to be crazy because you mentioned
that show with the Righteous Brothers.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
You got your individual stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
This new single they came out across all the DSP's
Ride the Lightning, tell us all about this one.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
And how busy you've been over these last few weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Oh dude, man, god, it's been insane. We've you know,
Bill turned eighty five years old in September and uh
and he's still you know, still killing it. Man. We
just got back from doing three shows out in California.
We did know, Modesto Monterey and then Beautiful Wine Country
up in Napa. Came home for a few days, and
now we're in Vegas for three shows. Got a show

(01:56):
tonight tomorrow night, then we go to Temecula and do
show and come back here. We got maybe two or
three more and then we're gonna wrap it up this year.
But we're wrapping up Righteous Brothers and I'm kind of
amping up Bucky Herd getting ready for my album release
and in January. And I appreciate you guys, you Brandon
so much for helping me promote. You know, you help

(02:17):
me kick this thing off. We launched the first song
together and this will be the fourth single release off
the album called Ride the Lightning, like you mentioned, and
the video.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Will be coming out very soon as well.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
And we're really the song just like my whole album,
Like when you and I talked about my best days
are ahead of me. That's kind of the message of
my whole album is that, you know, I became a
Righteous Brother when I turned when I was forty nine
years old, you know, And you know it's it's it's
never too late for a dream to become reality. And

(02:52):
you know that as well as anybody, as long as
you just keep doing what you love and keep believing
in yourself and knowing that every day you just try
to make a positive step in that direction.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Rome wasn't conquered in a day.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Look at it as a uh you know, you're it's
a marathon and not a sprint, and uh, you know,
so as as we wind down the Righteous Brother, I've
been winding up Bucky Hurt and got this album done
and and the releases have gone great, the videos have
gone great, and but the Ride of the Lightning is
I think it's going to hit home pretty good, brother,
because you know, we're we're uh. There's a lot of

(03:29):
rodeo in the video, and I guess the main thing
I want to make a point is I'm not trying
to to glom myself into that group. You know, I
enjoyed the rodeo, but those guys and what they do,
what what the message of the video is is these guys.
You know, I hadn't been to a rodeo in a
long time, and I'm sitting there watching these guys, you know,

(03:51):
right up where that gate opens, and watching them on
that ball and the bull slamming into the freaking cage.
And then they come out and they're and and they're
basically riding the lightning and they're they're doing that and
they're facing this danger because it's what they love and
it's because it's their passion. And then we sit in
the audience and just scream and yell up in the

(04:11):
stands and these guys are out there basically risking their
lives for what they love. And I started thinking about it,
and I'm like, you know, whatever our dreams are like
to my mine is, you know, I'm kind of living
it in a way, being able to do the Righteous Brothers.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
But the next step is for my solo career to
take off.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
And every day I'm just believing in it, man, you know,
and you know what I'm talking about exactly, and just
pushing towards that every day. And I'm trying to chase
my own dreams with the same bravery and the same
dedication as these cowboys and cowgirls from the Rodeo d
And I just thought it was a really cool analogy.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, it really does. And it fits a song well too.
We're not gonna waste the time. We're gonna play it
right here too as well. If you guys are at
the Sports guysopodcast dot com, you can actually see the
video there too as well. Ride the Lightning Bucky heard
here on the backstage pass.

Happy holidays to everybody out there if you're listening in
the radio lan KYBN ninety a point one, your Bay
Area Broadcasting Network and our friends at the Sports guysopodcast
dot com, THHWN dot orgon now top search on iHeartRadio
podcast out there. Yeah, wonderful video, Love it and of
course the music is fantastic too. You know, you mentioned

(12:02):
being a believer in everything out there and everything that
you do and always tell people you'll never give up
on those dreams, and you've spread that mantra, you know,
to us the entire time too, and I know for
you working with Bill Medley, learning so much from a
guy who's been doing this for a long time and
putting on shows and learning from him about, you know,
what it takes to be on stage, the showmanship and
the show business part of this too, and that helps

(12:24):
you really continue to grow your own solo artistry too.
You you've learned a lot from Bill. And you talked
about that last time.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Didn't you.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Yeah, well you just set a mouthful brother.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
It's by going to rock and roll University, you know,
watching him, I mean being in the studio with him.
He produced my last album which was really geared toward
Righteous Brothers. This is more towards Bucky Heard, but the
other was a lot of cover songs that did the
Righteous Brothers fans would enjoy. And Bill, Bill's in the
studio and I'm just watching him work, and I'm sitting
here thinking, you know, he kind of learned from Phil Spector,

(12:55):
you know, the wall of Sound and all that. And
then Bill, you know, actually produced I don't know if
a lot of people are aware, but Bill produced Unchained
Melody and less him playing piano on that. On that record,
he produced Soul in Inspiration one of their biggest hits,
and he went on to produce other artists and uh,
but just learning from him, like you said, in that respect,
and then learning about timing and and basically on a

(13:19):
in a live show, and you know what pushes the
buttons he goes you know, you want to push the
button and get off and then get to the next
button and keep the crowd engaged. And one of the
things I learned the most is said, when you do
a show, it's like a heartbeat. And sometimes the heartbeat
is like and sometimes it beats faster, but the goal
is to never it's okay for it to get slower

(13:39):
and have you know, sweet moments and tender moments and
then rock and moments where it picks back up.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
But you never want the heart beat to stop. You
always want that.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Show moving forward and engaging and and uh and so yeah, man,
I learned I learned, Uh, invaluable. It's just invaluable. What
he's what he's taught me about showmanship in the studio,
how to handle yourself outside of the show, professionalism, and

(14:07):
the list goes on and on.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Man, it's just been an incredible ten years.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Yeah, and of course you guys can't wait to get
to one of those shows, hopefully in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
After he'd go, maybe take a red eye out there too.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Just come on shore. I got it. I got an
extra bedroom, come.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
On, extra bedroom to stay with him too. Hey, tell
us about through the years. Was so awesome to love
this one. You mentioned that solo career out there, and
just when I say golden voice when it comes to
just singing music and making people, uh feel something heartache
tonight was a great kickoff for that record. And uh
sometimes when we touch kind of go down the list

(14:45):
there too and talk about some of the tracks and
the songs that really were some of your favorites on
that record.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Yeah, well, you know when when Bill, when Bill told
me he would produce it, which was a huge thing.
You know, he said, I'm gonna pick He picked a
lot of the songs like this originals on there. One
called Alabama will Always Be Home, which I wrote one
of one of the very first songs I ever wrote,
and I've rewritten it several times, but it's kind of
like a God bless the USA for the state of Alabama.

(15:11):
And and and Bill reproduced that to make it more
soulful a song called soul Castrole is an original on there,
and that's not my publishing company to soul Castrole, but
you know, it's about you think about what a castrole is.
A castrole is your favorite foods with a crust on it.
And you might like beef, you might leave might beef
tender loin and onions and green peppers, and I might

(15:32):
like chicken and mushrooms and green peppers. You know, but
it's whatever we love with a crust on it. Well,
your soul castrole is the music that feeds your soul.
So a tablespoon of Marvin Gaye, a dash of otis
on the dock of the base, simmer till it's James Brown,
sprinkle it down with the tears of a clown.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
You know that that kind of a message of letting
the music feeds your soul.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
And then sometimes when we touch you mentioned that was
Bill and his wife's song, and unfortunately we lost poll
during during COVID, but that was a very special song
for him. And actually in our show last night, the
guy that produced that song, Fred Mullin, who I think
lives in Nashville, was at our show last night.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
But he's a brilliant producer. The STEVIEE.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Wonder song I Was Made to Lover Him, which I
would have never thought of doing. Bill pick that one,
and it was one of Stevie's first songs when he
was a little Stevie Wonder. Then we recorded my friend
Mark Cahill did an arrangement of Ness and Dorma. I
do that opera piece and actually do it in the
show from Pavarotti, and he produces for the Irish tenors

(16:36):
and did a full orchestration for me and we did that.
I did Journeys Open Arms. He produced that with just
piano and strings. Then we did to close the album out,
we did If I Can Dream by Elvis Presley, and
with just two guitars and a B three and no
backup vocals. We stripped it down. Sorry seems to be
the hardest word by Elton John's on there. One of

(16:57):
my favorite arrangements that Bill did. Of course you Meant
and Heartache Tonight just a burner. And then the song
Through the Years which the Kenny Rogers, which the albums
is the name of the album, but that was my
mom and Dad's song, and just lost.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
My dad a couple of years ago and Uh, so
I wanted to dedicate that song.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
I did that song for them and and named the
album that so uh and and Bill, like I said,
Bill produced the whole thing, and it's just it's it's Uh.
It was a it was a project of love for
my parents, and then to have Bill, who I've grown
to love as family producing it. On top of that,
having hit the credentials that the man has, it was

(17:36):
just pretty incredible.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
Yeah, you mentioned every artist you know paid their dues
in this business.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
And I'll get a chance to watch a little bit
tonight and of course you know through the weeks that'll
be talking about it all the CMA Awards, you know,
right there in Nashville too, to kind of watch that
at same time see all the great artists kind of
come out to. But I can't recall the time that man,
you for country music too, that this really has been
the female category that these ladies now are finally getting
their due diligence for uh putting out great songs, recording

(18:01):
great songs out there too. Since nineties country h really
came out to, which I know you had a special
place in your heart for that too. You told me
last time what's it like you kind of see these
ladies you know, on fire right now too in country
music now and kind of getting their their call.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
I think it's incredible, dude.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
I mean it's like, you know, these these lady they've
deserved it for a long time, and I just love
that there's some new blood coming in. Like you know,
of course we all love Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton
and and and Reva and all, and but having these
you know, uh, lady Wilson, I know she's been at it,
but I good grief, I just think she is absolutely amazing.

(18:41):
And but it's just, yeah, I think it's fantastic. It's
been due for a long for a long long time.
And uh and and I'm and I'm certainly enjoying the
ride right now, man, watching all this happen.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
No doubt it will be a fun week there too.
And for him in Nashville too.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Time to play another track off the uh not the record,
I should say, but it was a single he released
earlier this year here in twenty twenty five. Time to
get a little crying here on the backstage bass Bucky

Speaker 2 (24:51):
Buck, you here joining us here crying on the show
here KYBN ninety eight point one, your Bay Area Broadcasting
Network and of course the Sports Guys Podcast dot Com.
Mention of this was a single came out earlier here
twenty twenty five, talk about this one because I thought
the rhyting of this one, Bucky, was a very kind
of a special message.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
We all felt a song.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Like this, Yeah, well that was a this is an
Roy Orbison song from I Believe sixty five and UH
and and Cryon was one of those songs. Like Roy Orbison,
I grew up listening to UH because I'm kind of
an old school guy. But I never ever would have
sung the don't performed the song.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
I never did.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
You know, Elvis called him the voice and UH, and
he just had such a beautiful false set of interesting,
amazing quality. And I always always told, if you can't
do it as good or better, then leave it alone.
And I just didn't think I could do it. So
when I started working with Bill, he wanted to pick
a song.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
He picked.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
He said he was going to pick a song for
me to do about four songs into the show to
where it wasn't a song the Righteous Brothers did. He
wanted it to be a song that the audience could
relate to, that they were familiar with, but that they
would look at me and not compare me to Bobby,
but allow me to be my own artist. And hear
me as Bucky heard, and he decided to do Crying.
And you should have seen my face when he told

(26:06):
me he wanted to do that song. And he must
have seen the panic on my face because he said,
I'm going to build this arrangement about what I've seen
you do vocally, which is what he did. And it's
been a signature song for me that I do and
righteous for this show every night for ten years. And
so when we did this album, there's seven originals and
this is the only cover song on the entire album.

(26:27):
It's going to be released in January. And Chris Losinger,
who is my music director for the project, who's been
with Garth since the eighties, you know, I know, you know,
Chris and Nashville credible guitar player and credentials are off
the charts, but run away to the studio to record
the song and he says, Bucky, I've got this idea

(26:49):
called me and Bob Bullock, my producer, is also amazing
for the beginning of the song, and he totally revamped
the song and almost sounds like like if Chris Isaacs
did it. I feel like, you know, it's got a
real melancholy, soulful feel to it. And actually Roy's son
saw the video, Alex Orbison, and reached out to me
recently and just said, man, great job on the video,

(27:09):
which which meant a lot coming from Roy's Sun. But
but yes, the only cover on the album and in
the video, I feel like is pretty strong too.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
It's you know a guy.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
A guy breaks up with a girl and then he
knows he screwed up, and he tries to get her
back and she won't take him back, and he so
he decides to go and visit all the places that
were special to them. So he goes to the fair,
he goes to the lake, he goes to their favorite bar,
and just goes through the whole range of emotions. So
that's kind of was the concept for that video that
we did. But yeah, it's the only only cover on

(27:41):
the album and a very very scary song to sing, no.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Doubt, a classic there in its own right. You picked
some of the best songs out there too, and are
presenting with some of the best songs called being Righteous
Brother is amazing out there too. All right to close,
we got to talk a little football because I love
this college football playoff is top twelve, you know, go
all right now to and I'll tell you what my
aggis are looking strong for Texas A and M right
now after that big comeback win.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Yes they are, And Uh, you know, I was ever
since you guys have gotten in the SEC.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
I get scared every time we play at you nom man,
they just they're just they're just gritty, brother. And I'm
pulling for, you know, outside of Alabama, because I'm an
Auburn grad and and and we it's just in our blood.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
I just can't pull for him.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
You know, probably my most hated team next to Alabama
would be, uh maybe Notre Dame, you know, maybe Ohio State.
I just grew up hating them for some reason. Uh,
but I would pull for if the Devil himself played Alabama,
I pull for the devil. And so so Auburn's had
some really heartbreaking losses, including to you guys this year,

(28:46):
and uh so we need to get this Iron Bowl
under our belt. You know, when you played crying, I said,
I was actually inspired by watching the Auburn Tigers and
the Atlanta Falcons this year because I spent most of
my Paul crying.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
I see why, yes I do.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Oh god, oh it's just been bad, dude, it's been bad.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
And then the Falcons quarterback Pennis goes down for a
year and you start asking you, so this is terrible?

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Uh you know, at least at least it's over.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
You know, Pennix is out for the year, and Drake
London's not playing this week, and and uh, you know,
Kirk Cousins is back there and needing a walker. So
it ain't gonna it ain't gonna be pretty. Whoever they're
playing this week, put your money on the other team.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Put your money on the other team, no doubt too.
Yet the professional ranks at college ranks. Like I said,
injuries are a part of the game. I mentioned HTAs
there too. I know for this year, you got sixteen
leagues you're in. I'm in three. So the money league
is the one I pay attention to, no doubt. But
looking back at it, man, it's a fun thing and
I try to encourage people to get involved because it's
like having a second job when you play fantasy football.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Yeah, it's insane.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
And what the commissioner of all of my leagues, but three,
it's a guy here in Vegas. His name is Kenny Davidson.
He's got a great show called The bow Tie Cabareta
over at the Tuscany Hotel and Casino. So if you're
in town on Friday night, Kenny's got a great show
over there, and he plays at Don't Tell Mama. So
he's a really great piano player, entertainer. He manages not

(30:13):
only is in but commissions one hundred and sixteen leagues
and he and I are have a team together and
we won for the first two years we managed the
team together.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
And I was kidding him because.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
He's a he's kind of a skinny, little where's a
bow tie Jewish kid, you know, And here I must say,
we make a team.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
Where's like if we were robbing a bank.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
The guy that kicked the door down and said, everybody
get down, and then you go back and crack the
safe and count the money. He goes, Oh, it's because
I'm Jewish. But yeah, man, you got to treat it
like a job. Every Wednesday morning, that's all I do
all morning. And he spends this whole day Wednesday, you know,
looking at waivers and making trades.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
And I don't know that one hundred and sixteen teams
I alwould want to be a part of.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
But three legs is enough for me and my friend.
So how did he does one hundred and sixteen? It's
crazy you to hang out with me.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
I'm gonna I'm gonna when when I have somebody dropped out,
I'm gonna start calling you.

Speaker 18 (31:09):
Man.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Before you know it, you're gonna have five or six.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
I'm getting in. That'll work out. We were on that
radar right down too as well. And I want to
get in those legs and have fun because it is,
like I said, it's fun to do it. And honestly, man,
it's a love competition and just the generosity. Yeah, it
makes every team. It makes every game interesting. You know,
a buddy of mine's a Broncos fan and he has
he has uh. It was a couple of years ago.

(31:34):
Uh and and I and I forgot who was playing him.
The Falcons were playing playing the Broncos, and he had
whatever the running back was for the Falcons. It went
in Jon and maybe it was Michael Turner. And Michael
Turner scored against Denver and he started cheering. And he's
a Denver fan, and he looked at me and goes,
my god, what have you done to me?

Speaker 1 (31:56):
It makes you question your loyalties, right, because are you
gonna pull for your team or your player?

Speaker 4 (32:02):
Exactly right?

Speaker 3 (32:03):
And your players gonna make your money.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
So yeah, your players are gonna make your money, so
you might want to stick stick with your players at
the same time instead of your team, and think with
your head at the same time. Hey, I tell you
what we got to get on. We're still gonna do
the sports show you and I talked about at some point.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
And I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
I've been thinking about it. I've been thinking about it.
We would crush, brother.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
We would kill it too. Like I said, all the
great stuff you know coming up there over the next
few weeks. I want to say again, ride the lightning
across all the DSPs out there. Check out the music
video on the YouTube channel and social media out there too.
Uh a show with the Righteous Brothers there. Check out
the website, all the good stuff out there. And hey, man,
happy holidays to everything. We appreciate you always being with
us and I love having you on the show. You've

(32:45):
become a great friend of the product. And uh, hey,
best of luck continued success with a solo career. And
you know we're gonna be talking soon, no doubt, dude.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
I can't wait. And I want to thank you.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
You know you're you.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
You welcomed me into this fold with open arms, and
and uh and I just uh, I just love your
brother and your friendship, and uh, I think I think
we could. Uh I think we can get in some
trouble together at some point, and so, uh, Vegas is
a good place for that. So you have a standing
invitation and let me know when you want to want
to rock and roll on some sports talk man. I

(33:16):
love that as well.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
But thank you for everything you got it, my friend.
We're definitely gonna do that too, and I'm taking anym
up with an offer to do it. Attend to show
out there in Vegas and bring the family up some
