Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, y'all, this is Calie Tucker and you're listening to
the Backstage Pass podcast powered by the Sports Guys podcast
exclusively on kk TC True Country ninety nine point nine
in Tallas, New Mexico.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Aaron, Welcome inside the Backstage Pass on that very station,
kk TC True Country ninety nine point nine, Taus, New Mexico.
Up into Colorado. It's cold out there, and it's the
time of year where winter is taking over and skiing
is at the top of its peak. No pun intending
when it comes to skiing out there too. But again
here presented by our friends over at the Caadenbordonshow dot
com today's best country mix and of course out there

(00:35):
too amongst our stations. Check them out out there. It's
the Backstage Pass and one of the OG's back here
on the show. We got to meet a few years
ago in beautiful Nashville, Tennessee, at the Omni Hotel at
Country Radio Seminar, the Beautiful, the Lovely Cali Tucker back
here on the show, Miss CALLI, how.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
You doing wonderful? How are you darling?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
It's doing good and it's Christmas time and I see,
like I said, our viewers can't listeners can't see it
out there too. And since we're doing this audio only
with the Christmas tree is in the background there too,
shopping is being done. Tell us all about the plans
for this holiday season.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
So I've got so many shows. Actually, that's what's crazy.
Lots of shows for the month of December, holiday shows.
And I've got my mom here from Nashville, thank God.
Spending the holidays would be I've got my fiance John,
who's going to be here and his son River, and
we're just gonna do you know, We're gonna cook a

(01:29):
lot of food, We're gonna open gifts, we're gonna listen
to a lot of music, and you know, spend some
quality time together. Because I work so much, we're all
just living very busy lives. It's great, but this is
like an awesome opportunity for us to just relax into
family life and enjoying each other's company.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
So I'm I'm excited about Christmas this year because I'm
not working on Christmas, which is great.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I don't blame me too. Hey, let's build on that
a little bit too, because that really kind of translates
into how important the holidays are for people that have
a busy schedule, especially in the line of music, who
are a male artist, female artist that travel all the
time and you're away from home, talk about just how
important that downtime is going to be, and that really
translating into self care.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
I can't tell you. I don't even I remember maybe
one or two Christmases holidays. In general, I'm always doing
a show, so it's very rare that I'm not. Sometimes
I'm traveling, but most of the time I'm still you know,
been based here in Vegas for the last ten years,
so everything has been here. It is very difficult when

(02:34):
every show for me, at least, the times are different.
Sometimes I'm playing five to eight, sometimes it's nine to twelve,
sometimes it's nine to one, and all the nights are
different every single night of the week, and they're you know,
I play six nights a week, so it's it's it
can be very taxing, but it is very difficult to
find that balance of like sleep, home life, like self care,

(02:57):
like what does that? You know, what does that mean?
So yeah, it's it can be difficult, but it can
be done, and I'm doing it, but I just have
to go Okay, if I went to bed at this time,
I'm probably gonna wake up at this time, so I
have to schedule that for that time. And you know,
but yeah, it is, My life is what it is,
and I you know, I love what I do, and

(03:18):
I love my life and I love my career and
so you know, I just try to balance it out
as well as I can. And I've got an amazing
support team around me that helps me with that. So
that's very important, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Got to have that support team. Let's talk a little
bit about the ladies and country music doing their thing
right now too, because of course the last couple of
years has been Lady Wilson just a bust out of
everything out there when it comes to doing what she's
doing to set the foundation for the great ladies of
country music. And then you added that list so much
talent now that you're rich in picking the right songs,
and these ladies are sharing a message unlike anything I've

(03:49):
seen since you know, your your aunt Tanya, you know,
back in the day, was doing her thing, and of
course the great ladies of the eighties and nineties. To
talk about just this run and what it means to
you to see all these successful fees, male artists doing
their thing out there.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
I mean, it's about damn time, That's what I say.
I love to see my gal's doing really well. And
they're also different and unique in their styles. It's not
just like across the board the same, you know, I
feel like there's so much diversity and the female artists
that are coming into country music and really exploding. And
I love that we've got Lady Wilson that's just crushing,
you know, that that old school country vibe, that that

(04:24):
Western cowboy culture. Love that Mega Maroney. You know, she's
like this beautiful little Barbie doll that you know, has
these sweet songs, love songs. Kelsey Ballerini, she's, you know,
kind of a beautiful but badass girl that you know,
where's her heart on her sleeve. And it's very obvious.

(04:45):
Like I feel like everybody brings something new to the table,
and it's it's really refreshing for me to see that that,
you know, the public is is we're we're all very
aware that, you know, the ladies have been it's it's
their time, you know, we their time to shine, and
the guys have got they they've got country music on lockdown.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
We know this.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
They great, they make great music, but there's so many
talented female artists out there, and it is it's it's
definitely interesting. Like I got telling you earlier, I went
and saw Laurie Morgan and Paantillis last night and at
their concert, the Gold Nugget was unbelievable and it just
was so nostalgic for me to listen to these, you know,
nineties country songs that I grew up listening to. And

(05:26):
you know, it's interesting how it's evolved, the country music
has evolved, and I love that I'm a part of that.
You know, My music is is very happy and like
exciting and and quirky and cheeky and uh, it's it's
it's neat for me to be able to express myself
the way I I want to in country music and

(05:49):
people love it and accept it because it is a
very diverse genre and it is for it is always
growing and it's always developing, it's forever changing, and the
fact that people continue to open their arms in their
ears to what our interpretation of what country music means
is the ultimate form of success in my opinion. So

(06:10):
you know, thank you guys for always you know, supporting
women in country music and listening to us with you know,
non judgment and saying, Okay, this isn't what country music was,
you know, back in the fifties. It wasn't what it
was back in the eighties, nineties. It's different now, you know,
and I like that people are really tuning in.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
I love the message of your songs too. We're gonna
play one right here on the show and come back
and talk about this country couture here. It is from
Kelli Tucker Exclusive KKTC True Country ninety nine point nine,
presented by our friends at the Caadan Gordon Show dot

The country Courtur is gonna put you in a good mood.
They're riding it down the highway back here with Kellie
Tucker on the backstage Pass again powered by the Sports
Guys podcast dot com and of course out there too
KKTC True Country ninety nine point nine and presented by
our friends over at the Caadangordonshow dot com. Today's best
Country Mix. So you know, you kind of had like
a banger to use that word that Australian country uses
quite some time, and people that love the songs that

(10:47):
really just kind of get up tempo a little bit.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Countrycourtur had just that unique feel for me, what about you?

Speaker 1 (10:54):
I I feel like it was such a dream when
I wrote the song and then you know, started recording it,
and I knew it was the most perfect representation of
me coming out of the box again and did this,
you know, working on this new project. It was like,
it's it's just fun, It's cheeky. It's a summertime anthem
song that I just feel like you could if you

(11:15):
had a convertible or row your windows down and just
jam to it as you're driving down the road. I
just I love it. I think it's such a fun
party song that just has a light good feel to
it and a fun message. Because you know, I grew
you know, I grew up on a ranch.

Speaker 8 (11:32):
You know.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
For for the most part, we rode horses almost every day.
And I don't mean my ranch, my aunt's ranch. We
lived a house and suburbs. But you know, and I
was doing pageants and you know how so I had
lived these two lives and I especially do it here
in Vegas at night. You know, you're gonna see me
in these beautiful gowns at these incredible, you know, over

(11:53):
the top venues, and then later on you're going to
see me in T shirt and jeans, you know, at
home depot trying to get apart from my sale. You know,
I live a you know, I live those two lives.
So Country Cotur is just represents who I am personality wise.
I love the finer things in life. I'm super bougie.
I am not a cheap person to be around, but

(12:14):
I'm super I'm super chill. I you know, I love
getting down and dirty and having bonfires and driving pickup trucks.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
So I love that. Because we had talked off camera
back in CRS when I met you there just a
couple of years ago. You're that kind of person. What
you see is what you get and you wear it
right there in your sleeve. And I love the fact
you are what you are because I find myself doing
some of that in the lifestyle when it comes down
to it. But again, like I said, that's the you
are what you eat type thing when it comes down
to it, because I think it's one of those things

(12:43):
that make you a unique person. And that's what goes
into your songs so well, because you're always you know,
like most artists out there, if you pick the right song,
and then songwriting is kind of a factor in there,
talk about just choosing the right tune, whether you write
it or you're pitched it, and how important that is
to show that that authentic side.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Yeah no, I'm back in Nashville years ago. We we
actually went out and had songs pitched and things like that.
I never wound up recording any songs that that was
pitched to me, but because I did feel like, oh man,
if only I could find a way to be a
great writer and tell my own story, That's what I'd
want to do. And so obviously it took me years

(13:20):
to really hone that skill. I don't think that really
came naturally, but I knew I had the desire to
be a storyteller. So it wasn't until I moved out
here to Vegas and started working with p K, my producer,
and my co writer Trisha Patani, and they really helped
me figure out how it is that, you know, say
what I wanted to say and how I was going
to do it, and then the writing style just developed

(13:42):
really quickly working with him, it was it was more
it was easy, you know. But yeah, no, I think
picking the right song is the ultimate. It's it's the ultimate.
I some of the songs out here on the radio,
I'm like, I wonder how they you know, because I

(14:03):
know they wrote a thousand, so what brought them to
that one? You know, I know it's great song, but
I'm sure all the other ones were incredible too, But yeah,
I mean, it's uh to me. It was when I
wrote Country Coutur and when I wrote Urban Cowboy, and
then you know, my song Last Name coming out next year.
It was like I just knew, you know, it's just like, okay,

(14:24):
if if this is who I this is exactly who
I am, this is exactly what I want to say.
This turned out exactly how I wanted it to. Like
I couldn't be more proud. You know, you just got
you got to put out work that you're proud of,
and you feel like, okay, there's no there's no oh well,
you know I wish I had fixed that part or
you're not making any excuses for your music. You just

(14:45):
you love it and you're you're putting it out and
and I felt there was I felt completely happy, comfortable,
like like there's no excuses with these songs, Like I
love them, They're.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Who I am, So it's you No doubt and I
love this one and I'm gonna talk about one it's
really you, Dandelion, because I think it's one of the
last times we had talked there in twenty twenty one
when that one came out there too, and I think
a little bit CRS so back there a couple of
years ago, but that one just really define who you are,
just such a beautiful message. You'd always start with the
album cover. Let's start there, like who worked on that

(15:15):
with you? Because man, that really just had that black
hat on with kind of that veil coming down to
and again those dresses you talked about. It really shaped
who you are as an artists. Talk about dande Lyon,
just the song and just that album cover work that
it was there, Oh, thank.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
You so much. It was an interesting photoshoot in Vegas
at the Dry Lake Bed and it was July and
all that was pretty much leather was wearing, so it
was very hot. It was very hot, but it turned
out it turned out beautiful. My photographer Fred Moorlage at
photo fm dot com checking out, He's wonderful. It does

(15:52):
great work here in Vegas. Dandy Lyon was a song
that we do was not necessarily country. But we wrote
it and we loved it. We thought, let's just put
it out to see what the response is. And it's
been amazing how many people from you know, country music
lovers and and and the people on Spotify that are

(16:13):
really gravitated towards it. And it's just all different, all
different genres of Spotify playlists. As pet picked Dandy line up,
and I've always shocked at the people who wound up
coming up to me and saying, oh, we love Dandylion
and and the message was, you know, you know, uh
toxic people can sometimes be disguised as something beautiful, like

(16:34):
a flower, and Dandy Lion looks like a flower. But
it's really a weird so but uh yeah, it's a
really special song. I loved, I love it, but I knew,
I knew that my heart was I wanted to I
wanted to make sure that I came across more country
so my country could tour my urban cowboy that I
knew I needed to evolve more into that than then

(16:57):
the pop. Too much of the pop vibe. And but
I love Dandy Lon. I'm black people do.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Too, great song, no doubt too. We'll get to play
another one here it's the latest single from Kelli Tucker
Here on KKTC True Country ninety nine point nine. It's
guess what urban cowboy here? It is too as well,
crack it up to you on the drive out there too.

Mountain Standard time out there in the beautiful town of
taws New Mexico, and even up into Pueblo, Colorado. So
let's get into it. Urban Cowboy. I thought this was

(21:55):
a smooth ride through the whole tune.

Speaker 12 (21:58):
Man.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
You got this little headbanger think going on like a
slow thing, but there's almost this feel good kind of ballad,
and you really take people on a story here with
this one.

Speaker 12 (22:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
This was a song we wrote during quarantine in twenty
twenty and so happy to have it out now for
everybody to hear. I knew that there was something about
I kept saying urban cowboy, urban cowboy, urban myth, urban legend.
There's a story here. And I love fairy tales people,
you know me, I'm a huge fairy tale fan, Like

(22:28):
I believe in some of the weird stuff. I still
think unicorns exist, Mermaids are out there like I. But
I grew up, you know, watching Disney movies and reading
fairy tales, and I thought, this is such a fun
opportunity for me to write my own fairy tale about
a long lost love that you know, has been elusive

(22:50):
all this time. You know, we as girls were dreamers.
You know, We're a lot of us are dreamers, and
we search and pine for our one true love, you know.
And there's a lot of stories out there that tell
that same story. But this was an opportunity for me
to make it a country and western and about a cowboy,
and and how magical that would be. And he's elusive,

(23:15):
he's he's We've heard about him, but we've never seen him.
And I love the music video so much because I
get to obviously tell the story and it's actually a
romantic comedy when you watch it. My mom is is
featured in it, so is my niece, and all of
my best friends are in it. And it's a it's

(23:38):
a truly one of a kind, magical tale and also
has this incredible beat that is just such a vibe
as this that's it is that's almost one of my
great loves.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
That's a great dude, no doubt dude. All right, let's
get in a little bit of fun stuff here too.
We got all the music stuff out of the way,
but I want to know some plans and goals and
things like that now that we're winding down this year,
getting ready for twenty twenty five. You mentioned a new
tune coming out there too, It start at twenty twenty five.
Can't wait for that, and just some things that you're
looking forward to. Obviously smoking right now with things that

(24:16):
are going on out there in Vegas, but I know
that you always want to add more to your resume
and just continue to put out songs at fans left
talk about forecast for me a little bit of next year.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
I think next year is a big year. We're gonna
We just launched the country coatur boutique dot net and
it's basically just merch right now. It's Cali Tucker merch.

Speaker 9 (24:37):
It's all.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
It's all of my designs that I've done with my
team and very very happy to finally get my merch
out there. So that's exciting. But what's great about the
beginning stages of that is that we're we are going
to evolve it into the Country Coad Tour Calie Tucker
line of clothing, which is I've always wanted to design,

(24:58):
and so that's that's you know, going to be a slow,
slow roll for twenty twenty five, but that is a
big goal. And then Urban Cowboy all of my songs,
I'm doing something extra with it because why not. So
Country Gutur doing the clothing line Urban Cowboy, I'm doing
a children's book based off the story. And hey, if

(25:22):
I'm being really crazy and you know, exciting about all
this stuff, I want to do a movie eventually.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
You know, you never know.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
I think I could. I just feel like I could
do it. I could do it all.

Speaker 12 (25:32):
But yeah you can.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
You're very creative that I love that mind. It's so
creative too. And hey, if you need somebody to do
any kind of narration for that movie, you know who
to call.

Speaker 10 (25:42):
Right.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Oh would love that that city done and done.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Thank you for.

Speaker 12 (25:51):
Great.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
We always said, hey, radio voice, you love it, And
I can always do some just movie narration. I would
love to know.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
I'm not even messing with you. If I do, I'm
hollering at you.

Speaker 8 (25:59):
Brother.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
They're like how would be your voice would be perfect?
I love that idea.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
I would love it, no, no doubt about it. Hey,
last time in Nashville, give me, give me some of
there's a hole in the walls that come up every
time over there too, no matter what style or cuisine
or out there, what type of food? Last place you ate?
That really just kind of blew you away?

Speaker 10 (26:19):
What was it?

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Last place I hate?

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Or ate in Nashville, in Nashville or either Vegas, either
one of them. Like I said, what kind of came
to mind? What stuck out? Depending upon what type of
food you were out that night? Kind of surprised you.
What place in Nashville? What place in Vegas?

Speaker 1 (26:31):
So in Nashville, I just for Thanksgiving, we went to
Puckets in Franklin. So Pucketts is a you know, a
staple in Tennessee. And it was it was lovely, I was.
We actually had a late we didn't we got a
reservation a little too close to call and they were
at all eight people in at four o'clock and we

(26:54):
had a fabulous turkey and pork dinner and it was
it was, it was fabulous. They were great. So thank
you Puckets. So much for accommodating in my family on
short notice. And then in Vegas, we just last night
went to Vic and Anthony's, which is a steakhouse at

(27:15):
the Golden Nugget and it was a fabulous experience, like
I can't. I mean, it's been a while since I've
been to a steakhouse and actually got to sit down
and enjoy a meal. But we had surfinger, filet mignon,
we had mas potatoes, we had deviled eggs, we had
bread pudding. It was it was fabulous.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
I love that too. So it's so great about the songs.
They're fabulous. You got fabulous taste in fashion and just food.
