We're gonna find out if he can get drunk off
of that here on the backstage as Colin Style joining
good here, what's up, brother.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
What's up man, How you doing?
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Oh it's good man. You know, you get a chance
to kind of get out there. It's high school football season,
it's college football, it's the NFL. You got the Major
League Baseball playoffs and now what two or three weeks
away from the NBA kind of kicking off things.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Too.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Good time of year to be a musician and a
sports fan.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Right, Oh yeah, man, that's that's one right.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Any good fantasy football drafts you're in this year?
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Oh man?
Speaker 1 (01:31):
You know, I really don't do the whole fantasy stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
I just you know, I just like to get the
clicker and turn the TV on and watch it. I
got all my buddies, man, they're in all that stuff.
I've never really got into it too.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Hey, I tell you what, It's saved you a lot
of money. I'll save your headache right there too. Don't
do that because, like I said, there's money leagues they'll
get you.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
And I was.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I was lucky enough to win a four hundred dollars
prize one year, which is pretty cool too, like a
fifty dollars entry fee. So it definitely I don't condone
betting here on this, but I will say fantasy football is.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
A lot of fun. Hey tell us.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Since we last talked to Congratulations, A lot of things
have happened as we close out this year for twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
A lot of cool things.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
This new single we're gonna play here a little bit
twenty bucks across all the DSPs out there for streaming,
and where's people on the website side will get to
see the music video you guys have put out. Just
give me kind of a report, a little bit on
what twenty twenty five has meant to you, and I
mean congratulations and all the success, the record deal, the
whole nine yards.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Oh yeah, man, you know, twenty twenty five, it has
been a very hectic year for us and our team
over here.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
You know, we rolled into the year.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
You know, definitely wanting to put an album out, and
so we immediately got to work on it. And you know, really,
the good thing about the album, you know, and I
know that the fans have heard with twenty Bucks and
White Trash, is that it takes me back. This select
number of songs that we have, they all take me
back when our I was sixteen, seventeen years old again,
(03:00):
you know, doing a lot of stuff I probably shouldn't
have been doing. But we you know, we had put
a tune out called Bad Day that was my first
thing I ever put out. And these these records that
are coming out to y'all just remind me so much
of that song, and it's just it's incredible, man, how
you know, kind of stripped it on back and and
got back to the roots of who I am. And
(03:22):
other than that, just been on the road and trying
to trying to keep up.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
That's what we're trying to do, is head above water,
no doubt. H I know the song's been a lot
to you too. We're gonna play it in a little
bit too. But they take me back a little bit
to that that big time show American Idol. I know
you guys were looking back at it. Does it feel
like yesterday since you were on that show? And I
know sometimes they do like these little get togethers when
they bring a lot of the alumni back in there
(03:47):
to kind of, you know, reminisce a little bit. And
I know that show taught you so much and kind
of was your breakout point as an artist, right, I
tell you it was.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
It was my breakout point for a musician. But I
don't think, you know, I don't think something like that
makes you an artist. And I had to I had
to learn that when I got to town and I
and I faced my own struggles and my own problems
in the industry, which it will definitely train you for this.
But I think you find artistry within yourself, you know,
(04:19):
just by yourself, you know, and just find out who
you are and whatnot. But yeah, you know, the show
taught me a lot of great things and gave me
some really good memories. And that was probably one of
the most you know, wildest people.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
They've ever had to deal with.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
But yeah, you know, I just we did the show
and then we got off and I moved to Nashville.
Man been busting it ever since.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
You got a great product, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
And its songs like this too that make up Colin
style and really tell a story out there too. And
like I said, I for you guys on the website
side of things, you'll be able to check out the
music video out there. And of course, said the affiliates
k why being ninety eight point one your bay area
of broadcasting network and alsown dot orgon of friends I
heard radio podcast and the sports guys podcast dot com.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
All I got is twenty dollars in my pocket.
Speaker 6 (05:32):
That enough to give me on in Hauntsville.
Speaker 7 (05:36):
So I hope you're having fun sleep and with him.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I'd probably beat his asked if I wasn't a little cash,
and I'd wind up in jail.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
I know you like that. So I just go to
sleep after I get done hitting all your friends.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
Oh yeah, I.
Speaker 8 (06:00):
Need a drink.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
You know that I ain't got much to spam. I

Speaker 5 (06:27):

So I'll just go to sleep after I get done
hitting all your friends.
Speaker 8 (06:40):
Oh yeah, I need a drink.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
But you know that I ain't got most to swim,
and I hope that I can get.
Speaker 6 (06:51):

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Got trolling me his active if I wasn't long cast

Speaker 5 (07:12):

Speaker 9 (07:20):

Speaker 5 (07:25):

Speaker 8 (07:33):
Oh yeah, I need a drink, but you know that
guy more suspense.
Speaker 5 (07:41):

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Back here KYB in ninety eight point one, your By
Area Broadcasting network and of course iHeartRadio podcast powered by
the Sports Guys podcast dot com and our friends THWN
dot or. Got a Oklahoma city out there to our
fine streaming stations, and thanks to our sponsors for everything
they do. Collins Stout joining us here. All right, lay
it on its twenty bucks. And I love this because
you mentioned that story of that favorite whiskey or beverage
(11:47):
or beer from the teen days going into the twenties
and we all used to get drunk on the twenty bucks.
How did this idea come about? Love the song?
Speaker 9 (11:55):
Man?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (11:57):
You know, really, man, I just got to thinking one night, uh,
just about how how simple life was. Uh, you know
when you're in high school and especially that.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know, if you're like me and you didn't.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Go to college, that first year after high school where
you know, you finally pretty much you know, you finally
get a job. It's got some benefits, and.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
You know it's like, all right, we're in the real world.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
But it's not really as bad as everybody else said
it was gonna be. And uh, you know, it's really
just took me back to just hanging out with some
good buds. And you know, I remember we'd all put
our money together and we'd all go in and just
you know, just buy what we could buy. You know,
I mean everybody has underage drink, especially where I'm from.
(12:45):
And uh, parents, if if you say your kid is
never underage drink, I'm hate to tell you, but you're
gonna be proved for on one day. But you know,
really it just took me back to those nights man,
you know where it was. We just had a good
time and I sat down for thirty minutes and probably
just reminisced on all those good memories. And so then
(13:05):
I went out and had myself a good time and
we just got into write that tune and you know,
just put put together about some you know, an experience
that happened in my life one time, and it just
song kind of fell out in about forty five minutes.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
So a country music it's all about, you know, like
you said, a good truck's song, good drinking song, like
I said, maybe you get like I said, a dog
in there to a family pet or what have you too.
So it wouldn't be a comfry song without one saying
twenty bucks and talking about drinking.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
And I have to heartily agree with you too.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Anybody that can say that I have not done underage
drinking out there too, it's that's totally a lie because
it's we found come from a small town just like
you do.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
And I can tell experiences we're.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Not going to go into here on the show, but
it has happened, and it continues to happen these days too,
because you're right there.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
You turn or even get eighteen. What does it taste like?
I'm inquired about.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
To thank your man? Man? You you know you think
you're gre own.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Definitely put hair on your chest, really old saying too.
My daddy would always talk about, well that too for
you twenty one. He says, yep, you drink you a
little bit. Let me put hair on your chest too. Hey,
so much talent right now in this industry, and I
talk about this, you know from a male female standpoint,
give me kind of that report on it. I know
you're getting yourself into it right now, full throttle of man.
(14:19):
It's a competitive business, but it's kind of cool to
see all this talent man rise to the top.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Heier in country music, right yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Well, one thing that I'm really I'm really blessed is
that it seems like a lot of that traditional country
sound is coming back, and uh, you know that's what
I was raised on, you know, the wailing you know,
George Jones, you know all that I think is.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Now coming back. I'm not saying anything.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
I don't have anything against the old Broad Country situation
or anything, but that's just not me. But you know, yeah,
you know, the talent is insane, and you know, personally,
for me, I don't really look at it as a
competition because I feel like if if you look at
it as a competition, you'll be chasing something your whole
life that you might not ever get. You know, everything's
(15:05):
different for everybody, and I try not to compete with anybody.
I just do my thing and do theirs and cheer
them on and just have a good time.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Man. That's about all.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
It is, no doubt, And I invite people always to
check out out there too, the official Collinstyle dot com website,
that official website out there for tour dights. I can't
wait to get to a show out there. Kind of
feel the energy too. And man, if you ever get
to Texas down here almost saying crash this party down
here for Texas Country and get down here. If you
have been down here and I've missed it, I got
to get back there too to come see you play live.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
You know that right, yeah, man, you know I love Texas.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Texas got a special plate in my heart, you know,
not just from the whole music thing, but you know,
just from everything.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Man. I've always been a real big fan of Texas.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
So that's that's good stuff right there. Texas knows some
good country music down here too. At the same time, well,
time to play another one here too. It's the previous
single to the one we talked about with twenty bucks
came back and came out in July July twenty fifth.
It's Colin Stou and make sure check them out official
Colinstyle dot com.
Speaker 4 (16:06):

And back here Cotton Style on the program, Official Collinstyle
dot com for more tour dates, merchandise, all the good
stuff out there. Let's get into my friend White Trash.
Know that you've never been shy on those country titles.
We talked about. Twenty bucks?
Speaker 4 (24:02):
How did this one originate for fans out there?
Speaker 16 (24:05):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Man? You know, so when I was when I was
growing up, you know, I didn't I didn't have much
of a relationship with my father, and uh, kind of
like a cool memory when I was when I was
a little young and is remembering him calling me my
mom white trash because you know, we lived in a
trailer and gap in Mississippi, and uh, you know, as
I got older, I started kind of looking at it more,
looking at it more as a compliment, and uh, we
(24:29):
just went in. I told him what I want to
riot and they were like, oh wow, how are we
going to do that?
Speaker 1 (24:34):
I was like, watch this. I went to jail on Sunday.
I just kind of went from there.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
So what an interesting title for a country song doing
the same time, But I love how you you're able
to kind of beat yourself in this and really you know,
be authentic and put in the fun stuff with the
instrumentation and uh like all the cool stuff that you're
doing right now, which is a cool thing and just
having fun with music, and it's showing in the studio
at least in my opinion, and of course everybody's out
(25:02):
there for your fan base, but you gotta love all
this great stuff that's going on with the titles of
the songs, and it just feels like you're having fun creating,
creating music that you enjoy, right.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Oh, yeah, you know that's the That's the biggest thing
for me is I just I love getting to getting
to write and getting to write for other people, and
just I love using my creative uh you know, mentality
because I feel like a creative thing is uh, it's
something something that the Lord gives you, you know, and
so anytime I get the chance to use it, that's
(25:32):
what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Well, I gotta take one of those songs off the
previous EP, looking for Home. I loved it. Amen, let's
talk about that. You said it right there.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah, so you know, Amen, you know it was it
was awesome. I had so much fun writing that song, man.
But it was really just, uh that was a look
back on whenever I was in Los Angeles for a
couple of months doing that American Idol thing and just
seeing how the people are out there, and it just
resonated with me that, you know, you know, if California
(26:01):
had some you know, dirt roads and you know, some
stuff like that, I don't think it'd be uh you know,
which I'm not saying California is a terrible place, but
you know, I am definitely saying that. You know, the
crime rates are up out there, you know, especially where
the hotel I was at. Uh you know, I could
look out my window and watch drug deals go down
(26:22):
all day and all night, you know, and it was just,
you know, we we don't.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Have that back home. You know, it's not so really public,
you know. I mean they still do it, you know,
but they don't do it just you know, Hollywood Boulevard
or anything.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
But uh yeah, you know, I just I just kind
of got to look in it, like, man, it's California
and needs.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Some dirt roads.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Amen to that too.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Of course, it gets got very unique out there. I've
been to Los Angeles a few times, name day. That's
definitely a different animal out there too. If you've never
traveled out there. For the fan base boat somewhere, let's
talk about this one off the looking for homiep.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Man.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
I just I like, I'm a river rat brother. I
love to get on the lake and get on the
river and fish and just ride around in the boat.
Speaker 14 (27:06):
You know.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
I just love doing that.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
You know, It's one of my favorite things to do
in the wintertime or not in the wintertime. In the
summertime is get on the boat, you know, let the
day happen. Whatever happens happened, you.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Know, roll with the pudgets, no doubt. Also one off
of there that really hits home to a lot of people,
And I can tell you this for me is I
kind of gave up the hardcore drinking. I'll have a
nice little glass of wine every now and then because
they say, you know, like I said, was it apple
a day keeps the doctor away? Or the red red
wine is pretty good for the heart a glass here
and there. But I think the Sober one really man
(27:42):
for someone like me that really kind of quit that
hardcore drinking and stuff like that, which I'm glad I
gave up once I became a father too, But and
it just makes me feel better too at the same time.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
But I loved your song, Sober. Tell everybody about this one.
Speaker 18 (27:53):
Yeah, So, you know, so.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Lyrically, whenever you listen to Sober, you would think that
it's talking about a female or a woman, but it's not.
It's actually talking about substance abuse and addiction. And you know,
that's something that I've dealt with. It's something that people,
a lot of people in my family have dealt with,
uh And I mean it happens.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
You know, everybody goes down that road.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
In life, and you know, thankfully, you know, I had
my feet in it for a little bit and I
didn't really I really decided that wasn't how I wanted
to live. And uh so, yeah, I'd been trying to
write a song like that ever since I was probably
eighteen years old. And we got to town and just
got in the right room with a group of people,
and man, those guys understood everything I was talking about,
(28:39):
you know, and.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
For them it was kind of like a love song.
But for me, it was much more than a love song.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
And yeah, man, it rolled out and you know, I
had a couple of people telling me this song will
never do good. And we put the thing out and
it became the highest played song off that EP. And
so that that really, that really put some joy in
my life because I knew that you know, that addiction battle, man,
that's a that's a hard one.
Speaker 23 (29:09):
Man.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
It gets a lot of people every year.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
And so I love to spread light on the whole
mental health thing and substance abuse and you know, alcohol
abuse and anything like that.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Oh, congrats on that too.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
And I'm always you know, those naysayers, no time for
them when it comes to people saying you know that
one won't do good or this won't do good or
that one. Yeah, seeting yourself with negative people in any industry,
you're in no time for that.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Brother.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Like I said, we crossed a million streams here on
this podcast back in July of this year. So it's like,
never say never when you start something and see it through.
That's the people usually that that say that kind of stuff,
and they sayers and you guys know who I'm talking
to out there, but it's sometimes your your best work
can can reach people and touch people in a lot
of different ways out there, good or bad too.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
I loved your rendition when you did this was January
of last year.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
I still can't believe we're saying last year, twenty twenty
fourth erasy oft times flown. Uh, but I still talk
to Jesus. And for fans that haven't heard this one,
I love the acoustic version, which was awesome. And man,
you really put your heart and soul into that.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yeah, you know, so that was that was one song
that I did not write. Another fellow wrote it and
it's and the song's not really my style at all,
but when I heard it, I was like, man, I
was like, there, there's so many people that could be
helped and touched by this tune here, and so I
just kind of I prayed about it, talk to the
Lord about it, and uh just come realization that, Man,
(30:31):
I got a I need to put this thing out,
and uh I did. And you know, that song done
really well for us, and I think it touched a
lot of people. And that's you know, that's my thing
and where that's where a lot of people get it
twisted about me is Yeah, I do like to party
and I like.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
To have a good time. I like to be wild,
but I also like to.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Help people too, you know, I like to know their
struggles and man, I just like to try to help somebody.
And so there is uh songs you know in there
that are very uh up tempo and cranking and wild
and rocking, and then there's also songs that go back
and man, just could help somebody.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
So that was one of them.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
I look back at even that in the collection and
catalog of songs too, and I know you may not
talk about this very much anymore. Of course, she just
still recent there the EP promised land and hit on
some highlights off of that too, because some other really
good songs, man like Lonely Hour was like one of
those just really kind of dug deep too, and then
I should have called Her was like one of those. Yeah,
we've all been in relationships and looking back on something
(31:30):
like that too when you look down it, I mean,
you got some really good songs that really touch a
lot of people on that one too, right, Oh yeah,
man on und.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
You know, that was the first project we made and
when I come to Nashville, so that'll always be just
a mark in my book. Is just greatness because I
mean it was the first time I got to do
something that extravagant, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
And you know, we tried to put some really good
records on there, and I think we did it. Seemed
like a lot of people like the tunes.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
I tell you what, I'm digging a man like I said,
That's why I've got to highlights you here on the show.

Speaker 2 (32:38):

but it's definitely gonna be soon and y'all can expect
them on. You know, I'm just gonna be here doing me, man,
That's all I do.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
One of the more laid back guys that I know
what it comes down to. I love that just that
chilled atmosphere you're gonna do you and hey, you like
it or you don't. When it comes down to it,
he's gonna do him and just chill and let the
day just kind of roll by. I love bet you
like water off a drugs back looking back at it too. Hey,
for the holidays coming up, and I guess happy early
Thanksgiving and Christmas and never too early to say that.
Some people start thinking about those things in July and
(33:20):
planning vacations things like that. I know for me, I'm
going out there zone to kind of hike the Red
Rock country out there in Sedona. And he plans for
the holidays that are upcoming.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Oh man, you know, just ready to see some of
my family and give the Lord his thanks and eat.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
A bunch of food. I reckon.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Godri is cornbread. He loves that too. And I tell
you what, you're right about eating that food.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Man, It's some of the best food you only get
one time of year because that's when people love to
cook us around the holidays, no doubt about it too.
Oh yeah, hey, you mentioned college football. I think it's
wide open this year. You got Texas, you got Penn
State knocked out of the top twenty five. Those preseason
favorites out there, and you got Ohio State doing well
and a host of others out there too in the
top ten. I guess for you guys, and being where
you're from, remind people of the team that you cheer
(34:06):
four to at the same time, and this is wide
open as I've seen college football in a while, right.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Yeah, man, I'm a big old Mississippi State fan. Go
Dogs one hundred. You know they've been They've been surprising
me this year. You know, we almost beat Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Uh, And they're just seemed to be doing good this year,
doing better than last year.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Uh. But you know, we've always kind of been I
don't even know what you'd say, not great, but I'm
loyal fans, so.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Well, Hey, sorry, my Aggie's got the best of it there.
That last weekend too, when I thought I was gonna wager,
but I was, I was wrong. I thought the Baggi's
gonna be a trap game. I thought missisp State was
gonna beat my eggs.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
I did.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Oh, if we had to play, y'all out, we played Tennessee,
we probably.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
Glad.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
I didn't wager either way on that too, And I
don't condone betting here. At the same time, but hey,
it's good to have a little fun out there too
for fantasy football. And if you're gonna go to your
sportsbook and hey, play, you're gonna play out there to Hey.
One funny story had one guy come up behind me
at the Golden Nugget last week in Lake Charles and
he goes, yeah, I mean I'm gonna throw one hundred
dollars on the Texas Longhorns to beat the Florida Gators.
And I looked at him. I was like, that's a
trap game, brother. He says, well, it's one hundred dollars
(35:13):
to win. I don't know what one hundred and ten
or whatever it was. And I said, it's a bad bet.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Don't do it.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Well, he went to the swamp and the rest was
history for Texas and archs manning right, Florida beat the
crap buy him. So I had to share that out
there too, for those funny stories sometimes that happened right
there in the sports books. Well, i'll tell you what.
