Your Bay Area broadcasting Network KYBN out There ninety eight
point one, and of course they're friends at tas KKTC
True Country ninety nine point nine empowered by the Sports
Guys Podcast dot Com and out there too, wherever you
guys find your podcast under the Backstage Pass powered by
the Sports Guys Podcast dot Com. Out there, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram,
and everywhere you guys listen to shows. It always pleas
(00:44):
to have just the two great guys coming here. Man,
they've become good friends of mine, the good friends of
the show. It's the Dugger Band here inside the backstage pass.
What's up, guys, how's it going? Man, Good to see you.
Thanks for having a song. You got it, my friend,
no doubt about it. Let's talk about this. Start to
twenty twenty five so far the touring, and of course
we'll get to the music here just a little bit, man,
But it's been kind of a fast start for this
(01:06):
first quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Right Yeah. We just released a brand new single called
True Colors. Buddy John Rich from Big and Rich produced
it for us, and it's our first big patriotic song
that we put out and we're really proud of it
and we hope people love it and we're having a
good time with us so far.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, it's a great song. And talk about this. We
didn't show last fall, As mentioned to you guys before
the show started. John k Monnery with me. We talked
about great times Big and Rich, some solo projects he
was working on to produce that record too. We're gonna
play it here in a little bit for True Colors.
But had to be just a real good time. Let's
build on that to work with one of the greats
of all time too, one of the great groups of
all time with him and Big Kenny and hear stories
(01:44):
about music and things like that, but also to produce
a great song like True Colors.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
John's just a class act, right man.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
He's been great to us. We've hit it off since
we met and He was awesome to get to work
with in the studio and just getting to sit back
and learn from him and see how he goes about
producing different things. We've produced six records, co produced it
with one of our buddies in Nashville, six albums, and
so getting to bring a fresh set of ears somebody
with such great experience, especially us being a duo and
(02:14):
him being a duo all those years and continuing to
make great music with Big Kenny, and it was just
an awesome experience all around. He's a great guy.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Love it so much. Let's talk about you guys.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
You mentioned the true Colors out there too, but a
lot of cool things that were happening last year. And
I love this album. When it came to Turning the
Night Up, this was one of your best works out there.
Shot Color, I think was one of my favorite songs
out there too. Talk about just the overall this body
of work for this one and what you guys were
most excited about to get this election of songs out
to the listeners.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Sure, we appreciate it, man. We actually recorded during COVID.
We recorded about twenty four songs, and that Turning the
Night Up record kind of came from some of those
twenty four So we writing a lot of music, recording
a lot of music when touring slowed down, and some
of those came from that group of songs, and we
(03:07):
finally got to finish them and put them out, and
we've had a great response. In that record, we were
really focused on high energy songs that would go over
well in live environment, show openers, show closers, that kind
of thing, and so with that selection of songs, we
were really able to accomplish that, and we've been using
(03:29):
those a lot on our live shows since then. So
I think playing a lot of live shows, you kind
of see what you need as far as original music
goes to be able to make a whole show. Because
we started out, you know, playing on Broadway and you're
playing covers every night, and you've got to figure out
where to keep people in the venue for four hours
when there's who knows how many other bands play in
(03:51):
just right outside the door, And so you're able to
play hit songs at those shows and understand what can
keep an audience interested or what can keep an audience
into the show, and so then when you start doing
more original music, you're like, okay, we've got to be
able to get these some kind of feelings out of
people through our music, and that high energy aspect is
(04:13):
what we really went for with that group of songs,
and thankfully, I think we hit it and have been
adding to it since then.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, a lot of great songs off there too, And
I really kind of dug into and mentioned that Shot
Collar two. Take Me Back was another good song off
of there that really just did it for me out
there too, and I loved the Sleepless and Savannah. Let's
talk about that one too, and of course that take
Me Back.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yeah, So we wrote Sleepless and Savannah. If you've ever
been to Savannah, Georgia, it's one of the most beautiful
places we've ever been to, and we went there as
kids growing up and just fell in love with the
city and just the beauty that it has and the
history that's there. I'm a big history buff myself, and
so I love learning about all the different historical parts
of Savannah, and so we wanted to write a song
(04:58):
that kind of talks about that place since we we've
been there so many times and just fell in love
with the city. So we kind of made it a
playoff of sleepless in Seattle, that kind of title there,
and so we wrote a love story that happened in
Savannah that was kind of a fast one and kind
of had to end with the end of the trip,
and that's what turned out to be the song Sleep
of Sin Savanna. It's a really really awesome experience getting
(05:19):
to write that one, and it's cool to us because
we've been to Savannah so many times and just love
that city.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
You know, when it comes to writing, take me to
you guys, school of one on one. I love it
so much that was sit here and talk about it
for hours too. Know we don't have hours, but at
the same time, the minutes that we have, let's talk
about it too. When it comes to getting those great
ideas you know in your head to sit down to
either write your like I said, your own stuff out there,
which you guys are really good at to or to
step into a co write and kind of get the same,
(05:46):
you know, brainstorm some ideas to come up with a song. Hey,
what are we going to write today? Sometimes I know
people said we have writer's block, But for you guys,
what does that come from? Through personal experience or through
things that you kind of just read or you know,
fantasy type stuff. Tell me about that.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
For each of us, we get ideas throughout everyday life.
You never know when you're going to hear just a
line or think of something or see a situation you're like, oh,
that make a good idea for a song, so I
just immediately put it in my phone. I'll either type
it if I'm just sitting somewhere, or if i have
a melody pop in my head or something, I'll either
(06:20):
record like a voice memo or a short video clip.
And that happens, you know, lots of times. And this
is probably something interesting for us, maybe different from a
lot of musicians, is most of the time when we're
riding in the car, and this is probably not good
for radio, but we listen to radio, just not always
when we're driving. Sometimes when we're driving, we just like
(06:41):
to drive in silence and not listen to music because
we're listening to music all the time, and really that's
where we get a lot of our song ideas. I think,
especially if I'm riding by myself, sometimes I just like
the silence and that kind of spurs on a lot
of ideas and then I just kind of put those
on my phone. And then once you get to a
writing session, whether it's just us or you know, we're
adding another ride or to then everybody kind of picks
(07:03):
out two or three ideas that they're feeling for that day,
kind of go around the room and everybody throws them
out and then kind of settle on what everybody's wanting
to write that specific session. Or if you know, if
there's ones like hey, we've got to write this, then
we just come in and we you know, write that
specific one. But that's kind of how it works for us.
(07:24):
You know, we get ideas all the time. You can't
always just stop and write a whole song at any
given time, you know, sometimes you just have to put
it off until you have time to sit down and
do it. But definitely a long list of song ideas
in my phone, So try not to lose that thing,
because lose a lot of ideas for lost that.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
You know, I lose that thing. I think it's the hip,
no doubt about it too. Tip me play some music
caause they mentioned they work with John rich on this
single here he produced it too. It's called True Colors.
It's seth to Jordan. It is the Dugger band here

you are listening to the Backstage Past with Brandon powered

eight point one, your Bay Area Broadcasting Network.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
And Backer with Jordan South, the Duger Band out there
du G G e R if you want to have
to spell that too as well for people in audio
land out there, kk TC True Country ninety nine point
nine and our friends at KYBN, your Bay Area Broadcasting
Network ninety eight point one, the Sports Guys Podcast dot com.
It's a grand slam of music and sports if you
missed any shows out there too, Josh Abbott and of
course brent Ley Gilbert over the past few days, and
(12:35):
the Dugger Band and some more great shows coming up
over the next few weeks. In fact, the War in
Treaty coming here on the show March seventeenth, so we'll
be able look out for that here out there on
your radio networks out there. So we talked a lot
about true colors. I want to go back to one
off the record we had talked about there before we
played the song the turning the Night up to and
I gotta dive into that one call shot Call because
(12:56):
I love the fact that you can sit out there.
You mentioned how you guys love to write songs, have
those hooks, things like that in your phone. Where does
shot Caller kind of originate from?
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Well, I think, like Joel was saying, we're trying to
collect a bunch of songs that were kind of heih
energy for this album. And so the idea behind shot
Caller is it seems like so many times you get
in the car and sometimes your girl will be like, hey,
where do you want to go eat? Or you ask
her where she wants to go eat, and sometimes she
may be like, well, I don't know. And then you'll
be like, okay, well why don't we go here? And
(13:26):
sometimes she'll be like, well I don't want to go there.
It's like, well, you didn't know where you wanted to go,
And so it's like the back and forth with that
kind of is sometimes a funny situation. And so I
think lots of times girls kind of like having that.
You know, hey, you can call the shots tonight. You know,
I typically am the leader. I typically choose where we
want to go. I do all the decision making. So
(13:46):
tonight it's just your night. Let's make you the queen
and let you just decide whatever you want to do tonight.
We want to do it. Whether it's driving down a
back road, whether it's hanging out watching a movie, you
just call the shots tonight. And it's just a kind
of fun, little flir song that we wanted to come
up with that's just high energy and it kind of
speaks to that for the girls there.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
He definitely sends a message to the gals out there too.
Speaker 9 (14:10):
All right.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Last November, I got a chance to check it out. Fantastic.
I love the fact you get had holiday music to
everyone's playlist out there. Christmas lights on, we got to
talk about this one.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
I love this song, thank You. We just wanted to
create a classic sound and Christmas song that was new
because there's so many records that we listened to growing up,
and it's something that we were talking a lot about
before we made that recording was a lot of Christmas
music is old, and it's like all the classics are
(14:42):
just recorded from however long ago, and we're like, man,
we want to make a song that is new but
automatically makes you think it's a classic, and so just
the way we structured the song, the way we made
it sound musically. You know, we had a couple of
great co writers on it, our buddy Bill De Luigi
and Kirsty Manner co wrote that one with us and
(15:05):
just very musical and she's a great piano player. So
we were able to really hash that out during the
work tape session as we were writing it. And one
of the biggest compliments I think we got on it
was after we cut it, which you know, we're blessed
to be able to use a list musicians from Nashville,
so they're playing on all the hits, and you know,
(15:26):
people know how the recording industry works. Most songs you
hear on radio recorded by the same people, same musicians
that are in the studio every day recording for different artists.
Some artists use their own band, but then a lot
of people use this group of a list guys and
it's a really small group that are just incredible musicians.
So they're playing on so many different records. And so
(15:47):
after we cut that song, one of the guys came
up to us and he said, hey, this was this
a cover who originally put this out and I was like, oh,
we just wrote that this year, and he was like,
are you serious. He's like, it sounds like a classic
Christmas song. We're like, good, that's exactly where we were
going for. So if we were able to not I mean,
(16:07):
I don't want to say fool them, but if we
were able to set you know, make somebody that cowb
er think that it was a classic, you know, something
that was originally written a while back then.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
You know.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
I think hopefully the listeners at home and everything will
get the same vibe from it.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
That's what I got too, classic Christmas type of song.
And it took me back, like I said, to those
younger days right around that, putting up Christmas lights with
my dad and mom and just enjoying time out there too.
Drinking eggnog too, like eggnoggly. Yeah, we started when were
early too, my dad, but always put some good stuff
in there too at the same time. And we'd love
to have it. Man, those warm beverages and just a
(16:46):
good Christmas song is what you need every starting about
I usually turn them on probably about November and then
when they kind of get in there through December and
stuff like that. By about January fifteenth or January twentieth.
I'm like, yeah, it's it's o because I wanted to
take my Christmas tree down the middle of January anyway.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Right, Oh, I know it? Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
We tried to get ours this year because we travel
so much and we love Christmas decorations that whole time
of year, and it always seems like it goes by
too fast for us. So this past year, we're like
November one, Like, I think at midnight on Halloween, after midnight,
I was putting up a tree and I was like,
we're going to get the Christmas trees up, and we
actually ended up with like four or five Christmas trees
(17:26):
in our house this year. I'm like, we're going to
get them up immediately, and we're going to leave them
up until, you know, at least up into January and
until my birthday was January sixth. I think we ended
up leaving them because it stayed cold and stayed kind
of that Christmas Eve feelings. I think we left them
up almost all of January before we took them down.
But you know, we're in and out so much, you're
(17:48):
not there enough to enjoy it. So I'm like we've
got to, you know, as soon as it's allowed, which
I guess, you know, the earliest would be right after Halloween.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
So we got it up and.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Those decorations up until up in January and stuff. So
we tried to live out our songs called Christmas Lights on.
So we tried to leave them on as long as possible.
And then we waited a little too long on the
outside lights. And you know, here in Tennessee, it got
down in like the twenties and the teens, and so
like days that we were in where we could have
taken our outside lights down. It was so cold you
(18:23):
didn't want to go outside or as iced over or whatever,
and so we ended up leaving them on a lot
longer than anticipated. But I'm like, well, we're just supporting
the single, I guess. But it was funny because other
people in the neighborhood did the same thing. They didn't
take them down either, And I was like, well, she
was starting to trend. You know, got to live out
the song and be legit.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
So you know.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Gritch and Wilson's song speaking to John Rich and know
he helped he's helped produce a lot of her stuff, and
that one song talks about you know, Christmas lights on
your front porch all year long. I was like, we're
about to be in Gretchen's song after this, but yeah,
we love it, man, and Christmas one of our favorite
times of year. So we're trying to put out a
(19:04):
new Christmas song each year until we eventually get a
collection we can have, like hopefully an iconic Christmas album,
kind of like that Alabama Christmas record and some of
those that we listened to growing up as kids.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
That's the perfect time too, Like you said, like it
was fridgid temperatures at country radio seminar when I was
there just a couple of weeks ago there, and it was, yeah,
you didn't want to get out of your house or
pretty much arrive or hotel or whatever in my case
with Airbnb, and I was like, man, this is tough
to drive on the roads out there to At the
same time, but snow in Tennessee during that time of year,
the weather is just so bipolar. You never know which
(19:36):
way it's going, just like here in Texas too. At
the same time, we got snow for the first time
down here back in January for the first time probably
in it's say, sixty sixty five years something like that,
we get a snow, yeah, Solf Coast, So it's a yeah,
you just kind of look back and you say yourself, Yeah,
it's just weather trends, weather patterns. But hey, you know what,
it created a great song out there too, that Christmas
(19:58):
lights on too, to not play the Christmas lights. But
you know what, we're gonna turn the night up here
on the backstage pass and off that record here at
Seth and Jordan the Dugger Band. Here the backstage past
kyb In ninety eight point one, your Bay Area Broadcasting
Network and a forends at KKTC True Country ninety nine

got to ask you about this one because of such
a fun song and this will take you back. I
grew up in the country, so I know all about
what you're talking about with this song too with my grandma,
and definitely we've had a few times in our life
seth when it's been a barn Burner.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
I mean, this song was just a lot of fun
from the writing session all the way up through production,
and we even made a music video for this that's
released as well. And it's just one of those songs
that we wanted to really showcase as playing instrument song
because I played fiddle, my brother plays electric guitar, and
we do songs like Devil went down to Georgia and
a lot of and a lot of our shows, and
we wanted to do something where we could kind of
(26:39):
go back and forth with our instruments, and we wanted
something super high energy, really quick and just a fun
song altogether, so we came up with barn Burner. It's
extremely country. It's just the things that it talks about
in it. And the music video shoot was it was
so much fun to do. We ended up smashing a
fiddle on the ground, smashing a guitar on the ground,
(27:00):
lighting them on fire, like it was just all kinds
of stuff that happened in that music video. See I'll
definitely go check that out. That was a blast to make.
But that song I hope you guys enjoyed as much
as we enjoyed writing and recording that one.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
The great song out there too. You know.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I got a chance to kind of do a little
bit of downtown see so sight seeing there on Broadway too,
which was really cool. Went over to the Ryeman, saw
some things there during CRS week. Chase Matthew had a
big show out there too on the twenty first of February.
I had a good time. But I finally got my
hot chicken. Well, I guess second time I've had it
there now, I can't really say finally got it for
the first time, but it changes when you go to
(27:36):
different locations. I'll say the first time on Broadway there
for Hattie Bees. Now, I don't know if there's a
hot chicken debate going on, but I had some conversations
with some people there and they're like, okay, party foul,
you know, the princes, what's the og? And I'm kind
of like, well, I'm still a Hattie Bees guy. Now,
I guess two things here for you guys. Is it
a hot chicken thing for you guys of you fans?
And two is there really a debate going on for us?
Speaker 1 (27:59):
I do like a little bit hot, not like so
hot that's gonna lose your taste buds. And so I
think the one that we're at most often. Of course
we're still open to hot chicken sponsorship, so we could
change this opinion. But well, one end up most is
probably Hatty Bees. It's nice how they you know, they
(28:20):
have all the different levels there, and we're definitely more
towards the medium than the hot, which if you've not
been there or not had hot chicken, even the mild
is hot. It's not like, oh, there's no spice to this,
and so medium is pushing it for me, And uh, yeah,
it's that's one of our favorite. And we like the
sides too. They have a lot of good sides there,
(28:42):
good sweet tea. So all that's important because you're going
to be down in a lot of drink with.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
That hot chicken. Man.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
I'll tell you, they've got probably five or six different
levels of hotness Hattie Bees, and I usually go for
the like I'll do like one mild and two medium,
and then you get like three or four levels above that,
and the highest level on my buddies, who just loves
really extremely spicy stuff, got the highest level of heat
on his chicken. And you know, Hatty Bees, they put
(29:08):
the bread underneath that chicken and it soaks up all
of the juice. Well after he was done, which he
he's the type that just says, hey, nothing's hot, it's fine, whatever,
And so he started eating this. He took one bite
of it and he started breaking out in the sweat
and he said, I'm not gonna lie, boys, this is
extremely hot.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
And so he ate it and he liked it.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
But it came down to me and one of my
other friends, and there was a kind of a bet
going on that we would have that bread that had
all the juice in it, and so I took one
bit of that bread, and I'm telling you that was
not a fun night. I just sat there with my
jaw open, I couldn't talk.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I had to get him to go get me milk.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
I felt like a little kid, like it was not good.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
So if you have go to at Hatty Bees.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
If you like hot stuff, you might be all right.
But if you like me, don't go for the upper
level because it will set you on fire.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
I had to go, yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I had
to go just to the medium because at one time
I got that mild. It was like, yeah, that was
enough for me. On the heat there too, perfectly flavored.
But you're right, and you bring up a great point
there that sauce, just that bread soaks up at sauce
and in time you get to the end of it too,
you've eaten all the chicken and a little bit of
the sides. That bread is not something to take lightly
when it comes out.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Only eat a bike.
Speaker 9 (30:19):
That was it.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
I was like, man, this is hot, Like look what
the sauce way you know? Dripping now to that bread there? Hey,
let's talk about that release.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Last year, another single was never Really Gone, which was
that kind of that sample ep out there had three
songs on it. I love the song God gave us Oceans, man.
I thought it was just like, you know, take us
back and really understand how good you know, the Good
Lord is there too. But to give us oceans and
things like that, man, just a great three song EP
out there from you guys.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
That's more of those songs that we had recorded a
large group of and we're just gradually pushing those out
and we actually have a few more that we're going
to be releasing from that group digitally here soon. But
God gave us oceans. I mean, we love spending time
at the beach, and you know, I catch myself a
lot of times when I'm at the beach or like
on a boat in the middle of the ocean, just
(31:11):
looking and thinking, man, it's just like we're just such
a small part of creation and it's just wild to
think about that, you know, the creator of the universe
made us and to be able to sit there in
the middle of that and think, man, this ocean is
so big, and you know, God still knows who I am,
and that's that's such a cool thing to think about
(31:35):
and you know, there's nothing like sitting at the beach
relaxing and just reflecting on life and just you know,
if you can find a quiet place to just listen
to the waves crashing in. I mean, that's just one
of my favorite favorite things to do. And I think,
you know, God gave us so many beautiful places like
that to enjoy on this earth where it's important to
(31:57):
you know, go get away from your life and your
you know, a big group of people and just spend
some time alone in nature.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
And I just love it.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
Man.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
We here recently we've started visiting a lot of national parks,
like as we're touring, and we've even turned into the
geeks that have you know, your passport book, you know,
stamp for each park, and we try to cause it
makes you go to some places you wouldn't normally. You know,
if we're in town for a show, you know, we're
thinking about, oh, we're gonna be at the hotel, we're
gonna be at the venue, maybe check out a good
(32:28):
restaurant or whatever. But now we try to look and see, Okay,
is there a National park close by? Could we get
up early one morning or before we have to head
out or whatever and go see what it's all about.
And that's caused this to get into some pretty cool,
cool spots in nature as well. And so we just
love being outdoors. You know, our industry, our job is
(32:51):
very loud, and we're around a lot of people. We're
meeting a lot of people. So anytime we can just
get away from that to just kind of have a
moment to breathe, it's it's good to balance it out
like that.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Yeah, it really is to get away from it all
too and relaxes. I'm gonna go on vacation next week
too and go to some parks and enjoy that too,
some fishing and with the weather changing now down here
in Texas, a little bit of that swimming which is
going to be exciting too. So yeah, a lot of
cool things to enjoy in vacation, and you're right get
away from all the stress of everyday life and you
go take some time for a little bit of self
(33:23):
care there too.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
Well.
