into January the fifth, and always good to welcome back
my good friend, Sammy Saddler to the program. Sammy, how

(01:04):
you doing brother?

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I'm doing good, Brandon. Thanks for having me on today, brother.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Always good to have you man, especially when new music
comes out and we're gonna talk a lot about the
latest single. But as far as the holidays go, what
are the plans in the Saddler household here for Christmas
and the New Year?

Speaker 4 (01:19):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Well, man, we're just gonna wind down, take it easy,
and me and two h's.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
We kind of got our own kind of deal that
we do now.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
It's kind of starting where we go down to Dallas
and we take kind of a horse carriage ride through
Highland Park and check out all the pretty.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Lights and all the stuff. Man.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
So that's that's kind of what we're doing Christmas Eve,
and we're just gonna take it easy and go enjoy ourselves.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
What's it been like for you as far as we
talk about this song, I can't get close enough, which
we're gonna play here in a little bit. But you know,
the goals to end the year, everybody has that, check
those boxes and make that list and then going to
the next year like New Year's resolutions. What are you
most looking forward to going next year. I guess in
closing this year.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Well, you know, I'm so excited man, to have the
song that we got out right now in the video.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
With Exile on. I can't get close enough.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Man. We're just so excited about that song and about
that record, and we've got we've already got the new
single and a video ready for the next one, and
we've got the album done, so the pressure's kind of
off and we got everything.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Done and then the can, so to speak.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
So now we're just looking forward to getting the next
single and video out and hopefully getting the album out
maybe the first quarter of twenty twenty six, and going
out and touring with my friend Dave Gibson that used
to be the front man for the Gibson Miller band.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Remember that, no doubt, I loved your last record you'd
put out there, twenty twenty one. I think we talked
about it last time you were on the show here.
In nineteen eighty nine, a great year to remember for
country music. And I know that a single we're talking
about here is on that record. But I loved the
collaborations with t Graham and Marty Rayven and Shenandoah talk
about just this one in and kind of hit on
some highlights from nineteen eighty nine.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Well, I mean, you know, when they asked me to
do that album, it wasn't too hard for me to
go back and pick songs from that era. So all
of those songs that you hear on there are definitely
favorites of mine. And then we put a bonus track
on there called I Know a Place that we put out.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
But it was so.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Good going back and putting those songs on and then
having like you said, Marty of shannando and Larry Stewart
Arrest's Heart and t Graham Brown on there with us,
and an exile on I can't get close enough. Just
some of my favorite guys in country music and some
of the some of the greatest songs I think that
were made back in that time. So to have those

(03:42):
guys on the records with us, man, it was a
memorable experience for us.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, you think back, I know, you know we talked
about this too, you know that year nineteen ninety you
look back at that, I know we talked about how
you got wounded a very bizarre incident in Nashville and
the whole thing with you know, cash Box and all
this stuff there for people that don't know that story,
and a lot of people may or may not follow
country music. So I'm not gonna sit here and assume
everybody knows that. But take us down memory lane, or

(04:10):
please take my listeners down memory lane, because you're part
of a piece of history that was definitely unexpected.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, you know, I moved to Nashville in the winter
of eighty four, got a record deal right there in
eighty five, and it's kind of unheard of to get
a record deal back then at eighteen, but I did
and moved to Nashville, and from eighty five to eighty
nine I had six nationally charted records and we'd cut
the o'ern nevill song that was my sixth and fascist
rising single on Tell It Like It Is.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
And unfortunately, tragic struck on March.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Ninth, nineteen eighty nine, as that record was rising up
the charts everywhere, and my friend Kevin Hughes was a
chart manager for cash Box Magazine and he was shot
and murdered. I was shot and left from dead. That's
going around the world as the murder on music grow.
But thank god God thought enough of me and kept
me here and pick me up out of that Brandon,
and we're still here making music, and uh, we're still

(05:05):
so excited, still being a business that we love and
and continue to pursue our career.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
You've been doing this semi a long time, and I
want to get your thoughts on just the I mean
just crop of talent in the industry right now, both
male and female.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
It is up the ladder.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I haven't seen it, you know, this saturated with talent
since really nineties country, you know, came in there from
I mean the chestnunt era to Tracy Bird, Mark Chesnut,
George Jones in my area down here, Clay Walker, Jenny Janis,
Joplin down Er two in different genre of music, but
so strong here. And it's so strong from nineties country.
Give me kind of your thoughts on the male female

(05:40):
categories now and just see these young artists rising to
the top with all these great songs.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Well, you know my take on some of the music
that's out right now.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
I mean, I'm not knocking anybody, but as you and I,
you know, we grew up in that era of that
eighties nineties country music, and you know that's the kind
of music that I really love, you know. Uh, you
know the guy like at Her, like Zack top Man,
he's trying to bring that that tradition of country back
and I think, you know, he's doing a good job
on it. And you know, each each your own out there, man,

(06:12):
I mean each one of these artists, you know, they've
got their own groove and their own style. And uh,
just success to to everybody that's having success out there
and everybody that's wanting to be in the business and
out there grinding on it.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Just don't give up.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
On your dream and keep doing what you do and
and uh, you know, don't take no for an answer,
you know, and just get out there and hustle and
and do all that you can do to try to
make you dreams come true.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Man, are you still kind of that believer that really
one song can just change a career and make a difference.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Well, I mean absolutely.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
I mean, you know, when you find a song that
resonates with somebody, I mean it. You know, a hit
song doesn't care who sings it, so uh, you know,
I really believe the song, you know, makes a difference.
And uh, you know, the artists, you know, that I
feel like you need to be true to who you
are and not try to be something that you're not,
because I believe that the audience and the people can

(07:03):
see through that.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
So just be who you are and cut the music
that you believe in and that you feel.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Well.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Time to play some of that for good, feel good
music here at KYBN ninety eight point one, your Bay
Area broadcasting network, and of course out there to THWN
dot orgon powered by the Sports Guys podcast dot com,
and also our friends out there anytime on iHeart Radio
podcast Sammy Sadler. I can't get close enough here. It
is on the backstage, past, stay tune, coming right back.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
Anything.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
I would give anything if I could only show you
how strong my person is, Folke.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
But every time I try to tell.

Speaker 8 (08:22):
You, I can't find aron worse to sing. No matter
how hard I keep trying.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I just haven't found the way.

Speaker 7 (08:34):
I can't get poor send up. I can't get close
singing up to you.

Speaker 8 (08:43):
Just holding your tank all night doesn't seem to to
I can't. I can't get a folk you puts.

Speaker 7 (08:59):
You know it's a good.

Speaker 9 (09:01):
Kind of thing I'm going through.

Speaker 8 (09:11):
Anywhere.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I would go anywhere.

Speaker 10 (09:19):
Right beside you. If that would prove mother fool wherely
lead out the father? It makes no difference. You see,
I'm going anywhere like you understand how much you mean

(09:41):
to me.

Speaker 7 (09:42):
I can't get call, sit up, I can't get class,
say up to you.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Just holding your tank all night.

Speaker 7 (09:56):
Doesn't seem to do. I can't get I can't get
about you.

Speaker 9 (10:07):
Lets you know then it's a good kind of thing
I'm going through.

Speaker 7 (10:30):
I can't again a call, sing up, I can't get call.
Singing up to you. Just holding you tight oh night
doesn't seem to do.

Speaker 9 (10:46):
I can't get there, Lena, I can't.

Speaker 7 (10:51):
Get about you. What's you going?

Speaker 9 (10:56):
It's a good kind of thing I'm going through. But
you know that it's a good kind of thing. Go
got Doug, call sound and marry you. I'll see got

(11:18):
Doug it call sound, marry.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I'll see up. Got do cral sound.

dot org, a tar heel World network out of Oklahoma
City and now in twenty seven countries worldwide. Out there,
it's the Backstage Passing e powered by the Sports Guys
podcast dot Com.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
There was a lot of great writings I mean in
this song.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
I loved it so much because this was like get
on the dance floor for me, kind of feel two
step in nineties country, which we talked about us both
being huge fans of.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
But this song really hit on all cylinders for me.
I loved it a lot.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Well. I appreciate that Brandon, I think we had a
good cut on it.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
And you know, JP Pennington and Sonny Lamar wrote that
song and man again, as I say, to have those
guys and Les Taylor on the record with me, man
with just a just a blessing man to have them.
I mean, I've got the iconic voices. You know, they've
been in country music sixty three years as a group
man and man. To have all of those guys is
just amazing.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Man, take us back to the previous one this year,
if I had a cheating heart, and I wanted to
go in this one and talk a little bit about backstories,
because always songs come from any and all angles.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Talk about this one for me, Well.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
You know that's a song that I loved, you know
when it first came out, and you know that came
out with Ricky Lynn Gregg back in nineteen ninety three,
and I loved it whenever he come out with it.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
And then I got to.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Researching and I didn't know that Mail Street had it
back in nineteen seventy eight, and so I had to
go back and listen listen to the Male Street cut.
So there's a lot of history in that song. And
I hope that we got a good cut on it.
And we appreciate you playing that one as well.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
I love it, man, Like I said, they're just old
school nineties country. Love it so much too, because those
you know, those songs that we talked about told a story.
You know, you're doing that with your music, and just
so we talked about, you know, one song just changing
everything too. But the lyrics in the songs, not everything
has to be a hit to make somebody feel something,
because if somebody can resonate with the tune, the tune
just tells a story, you can. Really that's the best

(15:40):
thing about being an artist, didn't It just makes somebody
feel something.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah, I mean it really is, you know, and talking
about that eighties and nineties country you know back then,
I mean the songs were you know, it's real life
stuff that's happened to people, you know, and you know
you you know, music can touch you in a way
that nothing else can touch you.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
So that's why I try to do.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
When I look for songs, is find things that touch
me and move me and hopefully it'll do the same
whenever you hear it. And that's what I try to
capture whenever I record songs, is something that'll move you.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Well, I gotta get because I know you're a big
sports fan too, so I gotta ask you about some
of those sports questions out there. I love this college
football playoff right now too, with some of the games
taking place this week with Georgia Alabama, look at Miami
Texas A and m James Madison play in Oregon.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Are you going to watch any of this college football playoff?

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Man, I'm gonna try.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
I haven't been able to get to as much football
as I need to, and I'm kind of disappointed in
the Cowboys right now.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
But you know what else can I say? Man? I
hopefully we'll eventually get back there again.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
I hope another loss last night pretty much have to
win out and get some helping out too.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
I mean the five and eight Minnesota Vikings. Are you
kidding me?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Come on now, I know, man, I think we had
to win every game, I think the last four games,
and Matt I was thinking, Man, we're gonna be able
to do this, and then we lost it, you know,
and I just like, I can't believe it.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Well, I know the Bay Area, they love them some
forty nine ers out there too, especially kicking. So they're
rooting for San Francisco, which is that Oakland. The Raiders
aren't doing very good ever since moving to Las Vegas,
and I'll tell you that the Niners, I guess in
a sense the Rams, but they're Bay Area team out
there in San Francisco. That's who they're rooting for there too.
I wanted to ask you about Everything's Gonna be all right.

(17:23):
This was back in twenty twenty three, maybe the last
time we have probably talked here on the show. It's
crazy how time flies. But looking back at that one
another song you got your hands on, and just it
really told a great story.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
That was, you know, as one of the songs.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
You know, when I look for songs, you know, if
they hit me right off, that's something that I know
I want to record and I put it back and
you know, that's a Steve Warner song, and you know, man,
it's just just a great song. And you know, it
just kind of in the world we're living in, Brandy,
you know, I just kind of believe everything's gonna be
all right, man, and just have to leave it to

(17:58):
God and let him, let him handle everything. And just
a real good, feel good song. And if you hadn't
heard that, go to my YouTube page and listen to
it and give us a like and shirt.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
And it's just that's another great song, man. I always
loved doing in my live shows.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Let's talk a little bit about everybody loves a good
Cajun story down here too, and I love it because
you get a title like Louisiana Rain.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Talk about this one for us well.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
That song was a top twenty record for John Wesley
Riles and it's kind of funny. I was in Nashville
in November recording another song that John Wesley had wrote,
and I hadn't seen John Wesley.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
And talked to him in a couple of years.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
And he's always been gracious enough when I call him
up and come in and sing background for me on
my records whenever we needed him. And we got through
cutting a song here in November and one of the
studio guys said, man, John Westley's not doing well. And
I put in a call to him that night and
he ended up passing away the very next day. So

(19:01):
you know, John Wessey has written so many great songs,
and Louisianna Rain was one of those songs, and I'm
so glad I got to record that song.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
And I've got another one. That's a few of them.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Let me say that I've got a few John Wesley
songs on this new album that we're gonna have coming
out twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Looking forward always to new music out there too, And
of course, you know, we promote everything here on the website.
Out there too the Sports Guys podcast dot com and
of course kybnradio dot com. You can listen to the
show every Thursday morning, and of course out there KYBN
in the Bay Area anytime. iHeartRadio podcasts, and of course
out there THHWN dot org. So mention the football stuff.

(19:38):
I know, the NFL stuff is getting you know, the
last three or four weeks here too. But I'm excited
for baseball because I'm expecting my Houston Astros to like
add starting pitching at some point coming up this offseason,
to get better. And you know, Houston had the dynasty
there for a good ten year run. This year they
got hurt. I know, for a lot of people that
are like, well, what are the Rangers gonna do? You
do you follow the Astros or Ranger kind of here

(20:00):
in Texas or is there another team you follow?

Speaker 1 (20:03):
You know, whenever I watch it, it's usually it's usually
the Rangers, you know, and they pulled out a World
Series for so ma'am.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
You know, I've I try to keep up with them
as good as I can. Man.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
You know, it's hard sometimes to get to all these games,
but I try to watch the sports news at night
kind of see where everybody's at and who's won and
lost and done what they've done during the week.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
I was a little surprised that Marcus Simeon trade kind
of threw me off there too, an aging second basement
sent to the Mets. But I will say, man, you
got an exciting player coming to town and Brandon Nemo
that's gonna be fun.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Yeah, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Yeah, it's gonna be a nice outfielder I wish I
could have on the Houston Astros.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Yeah as well.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
You know I mentioned about food. I always love talking
food here on the show. It's always fun too Holidays.
What's kind of on the menu in the Saddler household?

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Do you cook? You get something to take out? What
do you do?

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Well?

Speaker 1 (20:54):
We usually try to cook something, try to maybe do
a ham and cream, ptatoes, green beans, corn, or maybe
some dress and you know, it just depends, uh, kind
of the mood we're in, but we're always usually have a.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Ham and and cream, potatoes and green beans and stuff
like that.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
All right, My kid calls me a pizza head. Now,
So that's kind of the funny thing because that's my
favorite food always, just pizza. Could eat every day if
I want to from you, what toppings go on a
semi saddler pizza out there?

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Oh my goodness, man, I mean, I love pepperoni and
ita and sausage, and.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
I don't know, man, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, you know,
nearly a supreme, but I just don't. I don't like
a black olives.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
With you on that. No black olives, no black collars.
I'm not a mushroom pet either. I just can't. I
can't do it.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
I got you that too as well. Uh As far
as hobbies outside of music, what else do you not
doing music? What do you get into with other hobbies
out there?

Speaker 4 (21:52):
You know?

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Man, I mean I love to cook, man, That's one
of the things nobody really knows about. My mom taught
me how to cook when I was just a kid,
and I just loved to cook. And I love to travel,
you know, when I get out and go see you know,
some of the smaller towns or different things around and
kind of just uh, you know, when you go out
on a weekend where you're not having to work and
we're not out playing and doing stuff. I like to

(22:13):
go and check out, you know, small towns and different
things and just kind of see different different things like
Hot Springs.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
I love Hot Springs.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Always a fun time to y'all.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Love just like renting those little RVs and going out
to like National Parks when I get a chance to
Yellowstone and some of the other out there to go see.
And I love even California. I got to get out
there so much, and in California. Always often tell people
sometimes you can go out to California and you go
out there for a week and you still can't see.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
It all out there.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
So that's true.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
That's true out there so much. Well, this song is
really hitting home with a lot of people out there.
I can't get close enough out there across all the DSPs.
Get him on YouTube and all social media out there.
To the the one, the only, uh, Sammy Saddler here
to the backstage pass. Let me be the first to say,
if it hadn't been said already, happy holidays to you
and the Saddler household, my friend, and looking forward to
the new record. Come back anytime. We always appreciate you

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Man, I appreciate you, Brandon, Merry Christmas, Happy new you
know you're to you and continued success, my friend.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
You got it, the one, the only Sammy Sadler here

his new record too at the same time, and a
couple of new artists Elane Smith and Garrison Nunn coming
