(01:02):
I'll tell you what I love, turning the tables here
a little bit on the show, and uh, you know,
a lot of the country, but we got to get
back to a little indie pop there too. And one
of those fast rising artists joining us here on the
backstage past again powered by the Sports Guys podcast dot
com and kyb in ninety eight point one, your Bay
Area Broadcasting Network, Sarah Angel to the show. Sarah, how
you doing.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Hi, I'm good, Thank you so much. How are you?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Thank you for having me doing good? Man? It's great
to talk about some music and get to know you
more kind of on the personal side of things. So
from Texas, I love that too, because one Texan to
another out there, which is good. San Antonio, Texas talk
about just the upbringing and the connection to music from
a young age.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, you know, I mean I moved to San Antonio
when I was about five to six years old, and
in San Antonio, I want to say, like music's a
huge part of the culture there, but maybe sometimes in
like Fiesta and you know, other events like that. But
growing up in San Antonio was amazing because I was
surrounded by a big Latin community. I think a lot
a lot of people from Mexico moved over to San Antonio,

(02:02):
so it's amazing to be able to feel home away
from home once you move. And that's definitely something that
I experienced there. It's the best place in the world
for me. I love going back home. I'm excited to
be going back in a couple of weeks and yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Love it too. Talk about just playing instruments, whether it
be piano, guitar. What did you pick up from a
young age instrument wise, and what did you enjoy playing
and maybe lessons what did you take and musical influences
things like that.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Well, ever since I was little, I started playing the piano.
It was something it's kind of always been what I
mostly enjoyed playing. That was my main instrument all along.
A couple of years ago, I started playing a little
bit of guitar. Most of my songs that I write,
I write on the piano, So I think writing on

(02:50):
a guitar kind of helped me get out different types
of songs and different just feelings. Even I don't know
if you can see back there, but I even started
to play the drums a little bit not that good,
but we're working on it. I think my every time
I have my angry side and needs to come out,
that's right, I like to go hit it, even if
I'm I'm not that good. But yeah, it's always mainly

(03:14):
been the piano. Still still learning a little bit of guitar,
just just the basics.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
As of No.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I love that well instruments. Like I said, you make
the music, and it's cool because you have fun and
you have your own sound with your music. It just
seems like you like to kind of play around with
different types of different things out there instrumentation for your songs.
And really, you know, courses talk about that because we
won't really talk about this single we're gonna play here
little bit called What's Love on the show here. It's
good to have fun with music too, and it's a

(03:40):
little bit everything right.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, I think obviously my favorite part of writing the
song is this songwriting process itself. It's like, okay, like
I'm a rough draft and look it over, but then
finding the sound for that, like what what works best
for the song, not like not not really going into
it with like a clear vision is always a fun
thing to figure out. And that's that's kind of what

(04:04):
we did with What's Love. It was okay, we have
a piano on here, Now what are we gonna do
to make it bigger? To have that really that feeling
be be felt.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Well, the piano does a lot for music today, and
I was gonna ask you about collaborations things like that
because you mentioned you were a country music fan. I
do a lot of country music artists here on this
very program too, so it's good to have the crossovers
and collaborations things like that. Country music, whether it be
old school, neo traditional bro country movement, this new wave
that's coming in now. Females, males. What artists are you

(04:34):
listening to when it comes to.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Country, Well, lately I've been listening Morgan Wallin's new album.
I really liked that album. There's a lot of other
I know, like a couple of songs from like Thomas Rhett,
you know, lu Brian like I like a little bit
of everything. I couldn't There's probably some songs that I
don't know who exactly the artist is. But my country

(04:55):
playlist is so long, so if you start playing the song,
I'm like, okay, yeah, I know what song that is.
Maybe sometimes I just don't know the same, but I
do love country.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
I love that too, and that's the beauty about it too,
is the collaboration. We'll talk more about that coming back.
And we mentioned some of the crossovers there too, and
you see like Akon, Gary Levox and Hold the Umbrella
who we talked to at Cmafest this year too, which
was fantastic, and you see all those great artists that
are coming together from different backgrounds. We'll talk more about
that with Sarah Angel here the backstage past. Time to
play the latest single. It's called What's Love Here? It

(05:26):
is KYB in ninety eight point one, your Fay Area
Broadcasting Network. iHeartRadio podcasts anytime, these sports Guys podcast dot
com and also THWN dot org. Back in the flash,

Speaker 7 (08:27):

Speaker 8 (09:58):
Hey guys, this is Brandon Wisham in your listening to
the award nominated Backstage Pass on KYBN ninety eight point one,
your Bay Area broadcasting network and on iHeartRadio podcast and
stream at the Sports Guys Podcast dot com and on
THWN dot org.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
And doctor Sarah Angel on the backstage Fast Thanks to
all the affiliates out there. KYBN ninety point one, your
Bay Area broadcasting network, iHeartRadio podcast anytime, the Sports Guys
Podcast dot com, also THWN dot org. So this one
really had a great feel to it as we're presented
by The Kadan Gordon Show and B and B Construction Services,
and on Fransic Ksey Beck Music talk about just I

(10:41):
love this because it had a little bit of everything
we're talking about, you know, instrumentation and how you love
songwriting so much. But this is really catching on in
the music video is on fire Man. This was a
great song. I love it so much, Thank you so much. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
I think writing the song, I kind of only thought
about how I related to it. You know, I lost
someone that I really cared for in my life, and
it's like, well, what's all this love that I have
for you if you're not even here for me to
give it to you? You know. But I think the
most amazing, like one of the other things I love
about writing music is you never know how. You never
know how someone else is going to connect to the

(11:16):
song that you wrote, like they have their own story
and their own how they relate to it. I've had
people come to me about losing their husband and that's
the way that they connected to it. They lost someone
in their life, whatever whatever type of relationship. But I
think we've all lost someone in our life. So I
think no matter what you will probably find a way

(11:37):
to connect to it or feel some sort of way
about it, which I think is the best part about it.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Yeah, I just love it too, and talk about the
music video, going through that process of shooting that and
of course you know, going through selection of who's going
to shoot it, and of course what you're looking at
from a photo standpoint too when it comes out to
putting out a single which I thought was a beautiful
photo that was very well done too. I love going
through all that asking about backstories of things like that
on the project.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Thank you Well. It's actually funny. I filmed this music
video with one of my best friends. It was just
me and him another friend that was the guy in
the in the video and the camera. We didn't really
know what we were doing. We just know we needed
to make a music video.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Now.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
We got together the day before the video and we said, Okay,
we're gonna go here. We're gonna kind of figure out
what we're doing while we're there on this spot that
had like a lot of nature and I thought it
was kind of fitting. We were like, okay, let's do
kind of like a haunted house kind of thing because
it's like, how does a home feel when you know
that person that made it feel like home isn't there anymore.

(12:42):
So that's kind of what we try to do in
the music video, if you remember, Like there's parts where
I'm alone in the house and then he's here, so
it's kind of trying to show that. But we really
kind of thought of what we were going to do
in the moment on the day of, and then thankfully
it came out together pretty well. It was definitely a
really fun music video to a film, So I'm really

(13:03):
and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
I tell us all about the single last year Mess
inside of me. I thought this was kind of from
a personal standpoint too, that I was talking about a
lot of different things out there too, but also maybe
we talked about what's love kind of fractured relationship. This
one had a different meaning too. Tell us about this one.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Mess and said, Oh, I haven't been asked about that
song in a really long time. You liked that one?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
I did. I did like a lot of your stuff, Yes,
thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, that that song actually wrote about someone else. Someone
else told me their story about you know. They were like,
you know, I'm a mess. It was actually my brother.
He had gone through like a really difficult relationship and
he was like, I'm just I'm left a mess after
this this happened, and that's kind of what I based

(13:49):
it on. So it's it's kind of tough when someone
else is the reason that you're such a mess, insight right.
And filming that music video was actually also really fun.
We kind of like pretended to be voice for that
video when we got to film it here in Nashville.
That was a lot of fun. We went to the field,
we went to a bar, I think, we went to
Old Red and we really played into that countryside of things.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Love it so much and that's the cool thing. You
mentioned those crossovers. Let me ask you about collaborations and
what I'm saying it before we played that last song
and before the break there too, they're becoming You saw
mentioned Acon, Gary LeVaux and Hold the Umbrella and just
so many you know, Josh Ross at Acon. Now kind
of cool to see there's something for everybody in music
through all these collaborations. What's your take on it now
that you see some of the great people like you
mentioned a Jilly Roll, you know, crossing over to a

(14:36):
different genre from country to what he used to do
there and then looking back at you know, like I said,
akon moving into country now and so many of these
things that are taking place. It's a very good concept
now for I love these crossovers or something for everybody.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Right, Yeah, definitely. I think it's awesome to see people
do and play with different genres, and it's nice to
not just be attached to one thing. I think obviously
there's always gonna be maybe one thing that kind of
like people know you for or really identify you with,
like that sound, but it's cool to see if people
like branch out and try different things. I think if

(15:08):
something feels authentic to you and you're you know, staying
true to who you are while you're doing it, then
why not have fun and try something new?

Speaker 6 (15:16):
Right?

Speaker 2 (15:17):
It really is and that we always got to try
something a little bit new there and see if it works.
And like I said, see floats the boat out there too,
it's the same somebody's gonna either love it or give
you a count on it to how to improve things.
So I just kind of say, you know what music
is music, and as long as you're not hurting anybody else,
you're in the entertainment business out there, Hey tell me
about this. You may not have been asked about this
one either. The script. I want to get the story
of this one too. I love this song, thank you

(15:40):
so much.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
The script is actually one of my favorite songs to
this day. Most of the songs that I've released somehow,
I've actually always written in San Antonio. I write a
song or at least part of a song almost every day.
But that song was also pretty personal to me. It
was kind of about seeing someone else do the same
things they were doing in a relationship with you, with

(16:01):
somebody else, you know, that's that's tough. It's hard seeing
the person that you once loved or still love kind
of playing that same script with somebody else. It kind
of makes you feel, I don't know, it just sucks.
So that was the script. The music video we filmed
in Columbia, and that was really really fun and it

(16:24):
was all in the studio. But I don't know if
you got to see that music video, but that when
we have like ink all over the floor, there's also
the piano, there's the guy. It's it's amazing. That's that's
one of my favorite music videos for sure.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
I love that tune again. All the music is out
there across all the DSP's music videos. I use Apple Music,
but whatever else you guys just actually used for your
DSPs out there, for your digital streaming out there, for
all the music. It's up to you where you do that.
Make sure you give it a span if you haven't
just heard it here on the show. At the same time,
support the artists on the outside of our radio show too.
Tap for another one. It's Sarah Angel. It is the

Org, hed ck youre presented by Caseybetcaseybeck dot com. He's

out there P and B Construction Services guys, those summer
projects are underway. I saw some videos from Brent the
other day. He was actually doing some construction commercial residential
BARDN Dominium's custom homes, commercial remodel, steel buildings out of Sealy, Texas.
They will travelist done corrected with respect out there too.

(21:57):
A seven one, three, eight, nine zero, twenty five fifty one.
And of course the Kadi Gordon's Show back here with
Sarah Angel on the backstage past year too as well.
More great shows coming up this week actually, Sonny Sweeney's
gonna stop by two as well as our friend Trina
Calloy this coming week and the Flat Riverband. More great
stuff coming up here keep it tuning the Sports Guys
podcast dot com. So this one also had a different

(22:19):
feel to it. Echo. I want to know the story
behind this, the writing, and of course another one of
those songs that really attracted me to your music.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
I love it. Thank you Echoes. I know I keep
saying I had so much fun and that's my favorite,
but I really just love them all. Echo was the
first song I did with the producer that I'm currently
working with here in Nashville. His name is Joey Barbara,
and I was kind of just talking about this story
about a guy. It's always about a guy in my case,

(22:46):
but that I never dated, but cos me is just
so much pain and heartbreak. For a year, I was like,
I just want to stop, like this person is not
worth me feeling this, and they just kept me like
just let it go, just let it go. It's time.
So I was like, well, let me let me tap
into that feeling first and how much it hurts. And

(23:08):
that's kind of where we started. You know, we're saying
it's like the past won't let me breathe whatever, I
can't move on for it. But at the end we're
kind of just like, yeah, time for me to let
go like it was. It was fun. A lot of
my friends from San Antonio were coincidentally visiting me when
I was in the process of writing this song, so
they all came with me to the studio that's the

(23:30):
day that we finished writing it, and they helped me
record the gang vocals. So that was it was a great,
great time. And yeah, that's how kind of my journey
with this new producer began, and my love for blending
genres began too.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Yeah, you mentioned that choosing the right producer. Talk about
how important that is too, when you step in the
studio and the right person for the right project, the
right sound for the song, how important that is.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Yeah, it's it's super important. I think having a being
able to connect with your producer and you know, being
being able to be vulnerable and open it's always key
and for them to understand, you know, like what you're
hoping to get out of a song that you wrote,
or how to collaborate with you within a song that
you wrote. It's it's definitely key because you want to

(24:18):
feel comfortable. You know, you don't just sit down with
a stranger and tell them all about your lucklife or
maybe you do. I don't know, but I don't. So
it's great to be able to have a sit down
with him, you know, tell them what I'm what I'm
going through, and kind of work together to get that.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Story out when you step on stage. And I can't
wait to see you perform live down here in Texas
when you come back, or at least get to San Antonio,
which I know I'm going to this coming weekend and
for a few weeks vacation coming up here too, But
I want to see you perform on stage. What do
you kind of get out of that? What's that that feeling,
that emotion when you step in front of a crowd,

(24:56):
or that highest moment that you get when you're kind
of on stage at the mic and you're like, you
know what, I got the power. I'm singing these songs
back to this audience that came to see me, bought
those tickets and really came to see me perform. Talk
about just going through that process of that high, that
emotion on stepping on stage.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
Yeah, well, I haven't actually been able to sing. I've
only had three performances here in Nashville as now, since
I'm working on like building the EP and finishing up
everything else. But what the last show I did. I
believe it was in December, maybe January, I can't remember,
And I just remember feeling so much joy of like, okay,

(25:33):
like you put so much hard work into writing a song,
getting it out, producing all that, all that hard work
is just put behind you and you really just get
to enjoy it. It's just having fun, you know, finally
getting getting to sing something and you know, having the
occasional person just sing it back to you or just
really really connect with the audience too. It's it's the

(25:55):
best feeling in the world. I really just love it.
I love getting on stage. I love being able to
sing it because it's one thing to you know, get
it out there, it's another to actually be performing it.
So definitely hope I'll let you know when I go
to Texas and perform. I would love to see you there.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I'd love to come see you, so no doubt. It's
that kind of music. It really is. Just it's catchy.
It's like it's it got that connection. It's infectious. I
love it so much out there. It's what's love across
all the DSPs. Right now. For the latest single, you
mentioned that one right there for that being the latest single,
but that's seen the works here. I think I heard
you mentioned about this upcoming EP. Tell us what you
can about that for us.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Yeah, that actually kind of slipped, but you know, I
might as well.

Speaker 6 (26:35):
I am.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
There's a new song that I'm working on right now
and I'm gonna potentially be releasing in full on English version,
maybe like a Spanglish version for it too, because I
like writing in Spanish as well. I do hope and
to get into more of like my Spanish writing in
the future, but as of now, since a lot of

(26:56):
the things I've released are purely in English, I'm hoping
to have an EP maybe album out by the end
of the year, so we'll see. Fingers crossed it will happen.
But yeah, stay tuned because the new single will be
out very very soon.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Looking forward to that too, and that means you have
to have you back here on the show to talk
about that in place of new music and when everything
comes out'll y'all keep us in business to that how
that works the radio show. The more music you put
out the world I get contacted back. All the great
pig make it happen, All the great publicists, everybody there too,
and it's always fun to hear. So this is great

(27:33):
for me.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
It's it's great too. Like I said, I'd love to
expose the music out there when it is infectious like
that too. Again, what's love across all the DSPs. All right,
let's have a little fun as we finish up to Like,
Nashville is no stranger to restaurants. I've been there multiple
times now over the last few years doing all the
big events for CRS Country Radio Seminar and of course
the the CMA week over the last two years. Amazing
out there too, and everybody's saying, go here, go here.

(27:56):
So I tried to this place called three one two
Pizza over in German. Okay, I really get over the
b the Sounds Ballpark, and then I went down to
the diner on just off a Broadway there the stixth floor,
had some food there, went to uh Tin Roof had
a case of dia which was pretty good there too.
So we're some of your favorite places to kind of
eat out when you get a chance to go.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
My favorite place, no question. Anybody you ask will tell
you this bar Taco, that favorite place, and it's not
even just the food. It's also just the vibes, Like
the all the staff there is incredible, the vibes that
you're just you will if you go there side, you
will leave there happy. Sometimes if I'm having a bad day,
I'll just stop by, sit at the bar, I have

(28:37):
a taco whatever, I leave and I'm a much better
person with a smile. So you have to go there
when you're back.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
I'll have to check it out too, So I heard
a lot of good things about it too, but I've
definitely got to love tacos. Have to check it out
next trip there too. Let's talk a little bit about
desserts and sweets and things like that. What do you
like to kind of get into, whether it be uh pastries,
ice cream cake, what do you like.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
I'm a big frozen yogurt person. I love pro Yo.
It actually sucks because there's not a close Proyo here
in Nashville. You have to go like thirty minutes out
just to find one, so that suck. But I do
also like ice cream, Like I'll go to Jenny's here
and then here about and then it's on Twelfth as well,

(29:19):
right next to our taco, So go to our taco
go out down the streets. Ice cream.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
I heard Jenny's is a really good place to no
doubt about it. Pizza, when it comes to that, I'm
no stranger. Probably twice a week I get it now
from the local restaurants down here in Texas. Of course,
I know great Italian food up there too in Nashville. See,
we just talked food and music. That's what we do
here on the backstage past. Top things on pizza. What
goes on a Sarah Angel pizza out there?

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Oh, it depends on the day, but you know, you
can never go wrong. Pepperoni pizza. I will put pineapple online.
I know that's a tough subject for some people, but
I will put pineapple on it. Mushrooms, It just really depends.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Tick in.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
It just depends the mood that I'm in.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
What mood you're in, No doubt about it too, all right,
Had you never become a working musician, and you're really
good at it, so thank god you did to the
career path. Would you have followed any other interest out there?

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Yeah, definitely a psychology, something in the field of psychology.
It was always a huge, huge interest of mine. In
high school, I took a psychology. Course. My grandmother is
a psychologist, so I love hearing about like what she does,
and any anytime someone tells me they're in that field,
I'm super super intrigued. I guess I like to. I

(30:39):
like to understand people's brains and I like to I
don't know, it's just something that I've always really liked.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Love that too. Now do you enjoy kind of other
hobbies and things we may not know about. What are
some of the things you get into beside music.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Yeah, I always like to do some sort of work
out with my day. I went to pilates today in
the morning. That's something I really really enjoy. Going on walks.
I like to do just little random stuff. I want
to go make candles the other day. I'll try like
different things. I went to the heart, like ceramic the pottery. Yeah,
that I was like trying new things. It keeps my

(31:15):
mind away from because music can be a little overwhelming sometimes,
you know, of course you have a huge love for it.
Sometimes you get two in your head, so it's nice
to kind of branch out and do something different to
take your mind off it a little bit.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
It is I'm like you, I'm a foodie, and a
fitness fanatic out there to a gym rat, if you'll
call it too. So I love doing that because that's
like get up in the morning sometimes like five am,
start the workouts, come back to you like a little bit,
and have a cup of coffee, playing my day and
get all the shows straight and everything. And of course
it's up a lot. I love coffee. Yeah, I was
gonna say, just me. It's like black coffee, a little
bit of the creamer, regular sugar, and I'm good to go.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
So yeah, you have to try chremb on next time.
I'm here giving you all my spots. But next time,
next time you come to Nashville, try chremb It's amazing.
