Brand new single never Give Up on Love the Great
Shaleia to the program, My friend, how you doing.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I'm doing great. Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Well, great to be here too.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, I tell you what, your schedule has been crazy,
just like everybody else out there too, bouncing around. You
guys are going strong. Obviously the new single out we're
gonna play here on the show today too. At the
same time, but talk about just the love for music.
This seems like and you and I've talked about this before,
always that special calling. It takes a special person to
get out there and really get acclimated to their craft
(01:59):
and music and stuff like that. HA didn't happen for
you and kind of what age did it start?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Oh? Man, I always say, you know, I didn't even
get a chance to choose music. Music chose me. My
earliest memories of existing are surrounding music. And so you know,
by two years old, my mom says I was harmonizing
with her, you know, just singing. And by four I
remember this little piano that I had in my room
(02:27):
and I would be picking out melodies and writing little songs,
you know, for my sisters. And then by age twelve,
you know, I was I was the church musician for
my church in a little town called Bakersfield, California. And yeah, music,
music has been such a big part of my life,
starting very very early. But I was never in like
(02:48):
any performing arts schools or pageants or talent shows or anything.
You know. My craft was basically honed in the church.
Very similer to read this, similar to Whitney a lot
of the soul singers. It started off in the church,
and I thought that would be the end of it.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, and you know, and that's the beautiful story of
how I mentioned they're worshiping the Lord with our event
coming up their Sunday morning country at the grand ol
opry to a chance to give thanks and blessings to
our Lord and almighty Savior out there too, no matter
what religion denomination someone is too. It's a greater power
than we'll ever know when it comes down to it.
But as far as singing goes, and either either have
it or you don't, And my friend, you have it.
(03:31):
I'm going to tell you right now listening to all
the catalog of these songs, that is fantastic too.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Lumin Us the Symphony of Us. I love this.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
You got a chance to work with Catherine mc fee,
another one of my favorites out there too. Talk about
just this record when it came out there in April
of last year.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
You got a chance to.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Listen to some great songs off of their two at
the same time, and this is one of my favorite albums.
Talk about the body of work.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, well, this was such a great opportunity for me.
I grew up Disney and all things Disney, and so
to be able to have co written a song that
actually opens the light show every night at the Epcot.
In fact, I was there not too long ago, and
I've got to tell you it was just this the
most surreal feeling watching just thousands and thousands of people
(04:15):
responding to my music. It debuted last December, and so
I it's it's that was just incredible to have that
full circle moment. It was called the song with Katherin
McPhee is the Beating of Our Hearts, and then the
other one is called Heartbeat Symphony. But the single I
think that you're that you're talking about never give up
(04:37):
on Love. I'm so excited just to be releasing new
music so frequently. It's every last Friday of every month,
and so the last Friday of April it was never
give up on Love. In May, the last Friday in
May it's going to be a song called time Machine.
So you know, we're releasing new music that I'm super
(04:58):
super excited about. But never give up on Love. I
was really just inspired to write about encouraging people to
hold out hope that love is out there. I found
the love of my life during the pandemic, and so
if I can do it, anybody can do it. And
it's not just about romantic love. It's really about any
(05:20):
anything you're passionate about, whatever you are just loving, and
so just never give up on what you love. Who
you love whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Got a chance to listen to. In fact, I added
it to my playlist before the First Christmas Without You two,
which came out here last November twenty twenty four. I
love the holidays. It's always a special time there too,
And I can talk Holidays and Christmas a year round
because sometimes I feel like the house is decorated for
Christmas without from.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Time to time. This one was just so special for you.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
And I know holiday music has to be right up
there with the singles you put out too.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
It does. I mean, I also love Christmas. It's like
Disney Christmas. I mean, I'm might be a big walking cliche,
but I just love all of those happy, amazing, you know,
just beautiful things that come with both of those indites.
I did write First Christmas Without You because I do
know that there is a very large demographic out there
(06:16):
that sometimes gets ignored that is dealing with loss. And
my husband's family had actually had so many losses within
a really short time. It was like within six months
he had lost like an uncle, a cousin, an aunt,
and you know, and I was just like wow, I
was thinking this Christmas was going to be their first
(06:39):
Christmas without these loved ones, and so I wanted to
write a song for those who during the holidays are
you know, are feeling that loss. And so I had
so many people you know reach out to me and tell,
you know, and share what how. It was just nice
to be seen during that time. So I was glad
to be able to provide that.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Why tell you what you mentioned finding that significant other
and when you're not looking for love, you never give
up on love. Here it is from Chilea on the
backstage past KYBN ninety eight point one, your Bay Area
broadcasting network and are friends at kk TC True Country
ninety nine point nine out there on iHeartRadio. Where do
you guys find your podcast? Craig it out.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
If A. Since I was a little girl, my mama
said you better watch Chandler. There ain't nothing worth having
in this woom.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
If it comes.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
Easy, don't you stop until your battles.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Now throw in the towel because you just.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
Beg You can have anything you want, but it will
won't come me easy.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Sometimes I just don't go according to your pay.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
It's more ship can do.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
But just do what you can for you give it
your own and you don't under stay it.
Speaker 8 (08:10):
Just remember.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Ever he.
Speaker 7 (08:21):

Speaker 1 (08:34):

your heart deserts fell down, come.

Speaker 9 (09:34):

Speaker 1 (10:37):

Speaker 2 (11:12):
And of course you're truly Kaiden Gordon. They're live in Nashville,
Tennessee the Music City Center. CMA Fest twenty twenty five
right there too as well, doing the shows live there too,
and I mean a slew of artist coming in to
be with us there. Rascal Flats, Gary Labox is going
to be there. Acon is going to be there, my goodness.
Working on probably the summer anthem Withhold the Umbrella infect
the music video just came out today, all presented by
(11:32):

the Kadangordon Show dot com Today's best Country Mix and
then live at the Grand ol Opry coming up June
the eighth there about three o'clock in the afternoon, showtime
at four. Tickets at opry dot com and for those
CMA packages out there, cmafest dot com for those tickets

Speaker 3 (11:49):
So it goes there.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
It'll be a big party there and the music week
there at Nashville, Tennessee, the biggest week worldwide for the
largest music festival. Back here with Chalia on the program,
beautiful beautiful new single out there across all the DSPs.
Never give up on love. A beautiful song there too.
We've talked about here on the program. As you mentioned
there the last Friday of every month, new singles are
coming out. I love this song because you mentioned this
(12:12):
Chile is so uplifting. It's well done.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Thank you, thank you so much. I wrote it with
a very dear collaborator of mine, Davy Nathan, you know,
and that's really what we wanted. We wanted people to
be uplifted. I think in this day and age, you know,
hope can sometimes be a little hard to come by,
and so we wanted to provide a little sliver of
(12:36):
that and if anybody can be encouraged by it, then
we have definitely succeeded. We've got some all stars, you know, musicians.
We've got the Grammy Multi Grammy Award winning Corey Henry
On on B three Oregon as well as a piano.
We have Eric Walls on guitar, he's actually on tour
(12:57):
with Usher right now, very much in the band. Incredible
Stanley Rudolph on drums, who I actually met when he
was touring with Stevie Wonder still does to this day.
He's all over the world, also in great demand. And
Pastor Funk on bass, who is also incredible. Just love
(13:17):
his energy brought so much light to this record. And
then the Regent Horns, who Regiment Horns, who have been
playing with with Justin Timberlake for years and and just
really add so much energy with the horns on the course.
I just I love their presence on the record, and
and you know, produced and by by Davy Nathan and
(13:38):
myself wrote and produced, and so it's it's just really
great to see. I was I was greatly inspired by Aretha.
I felt like this was a song that Aretha might
do if she was here with us now. And and
so I'm just glad that people are feeling that soulful energy.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yeah, and I'll tell you what recently, I think we
talked about this too, just a conversation there a little bit,
but I went to see I love blues and blues
is kind of making the comeback there too, as it
has been nothing ever went away.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
It's just one of those things.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
I love it seeing it hang around next to that
country genre as all genres for R and B and
for everything out there too. But I recently saw who's
a good friend of yours, Bobby Rush ninety one years old.
He'd be ninety two this October, played with Kenny Wayne
Sheppard on an album they collaborated with called Young Fashion
Ways and it was in Houston at the House of
Blues over there too. We got to go there and
promote the show, and of course it was sold out
and get up there, Kenny do his thing on guitar,
(14:28):
but Bobby still looking young, hopping around on stage years old,
playing the harmonica.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Are you surprised?
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Oh my goodness, listen. It's a blessing, you know. It's
a blessing to not only you know, reach that milestone
in age, but to still have that same passion and
love for what you do. I think that's the even
bigger miracle. You know, this industry is not always easy.
But to see him just with so much joy and
(14:55):
for what he does, I think that is that's the
miracle right there. And I just love him so much.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
He's a great guy, no doubt about it.
Speaker 10 (15:02):
Too.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
It's a great chance to have him here on the
backstage pass and of course that promote that wonderful tour again.
Check those tickets out there across all the websites out there,
and they're selling out. I mean, like I said, the
city to city hill venue to venue out there too
as well. Always a fun time. I want to go
back to a song last year, my friend, The Road
is Long, the River Wide. What a title for a song.
And again, this is one of those songs you kind
(15:25):
of gravitate to. It really pulls you in because this
talks about life, didn't it.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Yeah. I have had just the absolute honor and pleasure
to have been connected with Allen and Marilyn Bergman. These
are legendary songwriters. They wrote The Way We Were for
Barbara Streis and they wrote Nice and Easy for Frank Sinatra.
They you know, I mean when you go to their homes,
it's a music museum of Oscars and Golden Globes and Grammys.
(15:54):
I mean, it's it's just incredible. We've lost Maryland a
few years ago. They were a married couple, but but
Alan is still going strong. I mean he is ninety
nine years old and just just as passionate about what
he does than than ever before. And so Beverly Johnson
(16:17):
had has an incredible story. I believe she was the
first black supermodel. And so there was a play that
they were doing, and so this was a song that
he wrote for that and I was just so honored
when he asked me to sing this, And that is
Greg Filling Gains, the great Greg Filling Gains on piano,
who has been a songwriter and musician for for Michael
(16:39):
Jackson and so many others, countless others. But it's it's
been it just doing that that piece of work was
was just such an honor, especially to be called on
by by.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Alan beautiful body of work there too. We'll play the
next song head a little bit too. Love this one.
It's gonna uplift you even more. Out there too from
Chilea and I love this one. Mothers and Shepherd's another
great title that really pulls people in a song you
can definitely resonate with out There twenty twenty two, I
believe when this one had come out at the same time.
But just another beautiful message set to the public out there.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yeah. I had an amazing opportunity to collaborate with this
writing entity called Common Hymnal and just a group of
just incredible songwriters. And this was a Christmas song, was
an original Christmas song, which sometimes you know, can be
a little tough, but you know, because people have their favorites,
(17:36):
but people really connected with the song. I had the
opportunity to perform it on the Jennifer Hudson show did
very very well, and it was another really special thing
I was able to do was to collaborate with a
choir associated with my alma mater called the Aoliens, So
that was also just a wonderful treat to be able
to do. It's really really a beautiful song that really
(18:00):
tells the story of Jesus.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Yeah, I love that uplifting music out there too. We
always appreciate the higher Power, no doubt about it. You
mentioned every Friday, the last Friday of the month, the
new music coming out. Now, not to put you on
the spot here too, but we're always looking for that
scoop here if you give us one too, if you're
allowed to say that. But I know May is already
winding down. I can I believe we're towards the end
of May talking about June and all this stuff in
summer vacations for people coming up. So with the May
(18:27):
coming up, with the last Friday here and there any
new title for this new single coming out here for May.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yes, we do. The new song that's coming out at
the last Friday of May is called time Machine, and
it's it's just a really sweet way of reliving, you know,
bumping into someone that you may have been with years ago,
and you're kind of wishing that you had a time
(18:55):
machine to kind of go back in time. But it's
it's a really great song. I can't wait for you
to hear it.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
I want one of those right now. I just want
a time machine to go back in time.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yeah, wait to hear that one coming out May thirtieth
here in two thousand and twenty five. Let'll tell you
what we're gonna upifk you more here on the backstage
pass because that's what we do here. And it's Shalaia,
Grammy nominated Singer songwriter out there too, and this one
is everybody, every dog heads its day. And I'm gonna
tell you what for you guys out there too that
(19:25):
believe and stay positive in life, something's coming here.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
It is from Shileia on the backstage pass again.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
KYB A ninety eight point one year Baiting Area Broadcasting
Network and are friends of KKTC True Country ninety nine
point nine. Crack this one up too, because it's just
a feel good. It'll send chills right down your spine.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Here.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
It is somethense come.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
I can fill it in myblem something sudy. Yeah, if
you know you know, say it is come around too long.
Look got it turns us too. So it's coming and
(20:11):
it's common real soon. Piece is coming it starts. Not
see it with your eyes. It's to not opender. They
(20:31):
said it will never be here and so untrue. Pieces
coming and it's common real soon.
Speaker 9 (20:46):
So I say, hope.
Speaker 8 (20:50):
For better days.
Speaker 11 (20:54):
There are a million ways to make the world a
better place.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
We have to try.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
Breathe line.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
You only get one cheese in this line.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
That's coming. It's right around the pen.
Speaker 9 (21:26):
You may not see it now, but hold on, my friend,
he will be long before the sun. Chiney through.
Speaker 8 (21:42):

Speaker 5 (21:46):
And it's common real soon.
Speaker 9 (21:50):
So I say.
Speaker 8 (21:54):
For better day.
Speaker 11 (21:58):
There are a million and ways to make the world
a better place.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
We have to try.
Speaker 8 (22:09):
And read life.
Speaker 9 (22:15):
We only get one cheese in the.
Speaker 8 (22:19):
Clouds up coming.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
I can feel it in my force.
Speaker 8 (22:30):

(24:43):
Coming because everybody, just like myself, you're we're all human beings.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
We all want that ship to come in.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
We always want to be excited about our careers and
our relationships, business, everything in life, all aspects.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
It is.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Again I wrote with Davy Nathan and we just I
have the absolute, just privilege of touring this with Stevie Wonder.
He did a tour this past fall, in last fall
between twenty four and I just enjoy being able to
(25:17):
go just city to city spreading this beautiful message of
hope that something's coming. And like I said, I think
sometimes you know, if you watch the news a little
too long, you can just get really frustrated and scared
and anxious. And this song just simply says that you
know something's coming. Peace is coming, you know, love is
(25:38):
coming and it's coming real soon, and I think you
just have to remind yourself to believe that that is possible,
despite what you see, despite what you feel, just to
hold out hope that something's coming. And that's what I
always want to do with my music, is to bring
light and hope if I can.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Oh, you've certainly done that, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Hey, talk to me about some of the challenges that
go on in this thing called the music industry, because
no matter what genre, being an artist is very very hard,
and sometimes fans don't see what goes on behind the
scenes out there too, what you guys face and things
you have to overcome, different obstacles things like that. What
are some of the areas in this industry that really
you find yourself the most challenging as an artist?
Speaker 1 (26:17):
You know, there's always two sides, you know. I hear
people talk about the good old days, you know, but
there is a I think social media really allows the
artists to have this direct communication with their fans, and
that is something that I think is a really positive thing. Now,
(26:38):
the other side of that is that because everybody has
access to do that, you are flooded with so many
artists and so sometimes it's kind of hard to break
through because it's just so many people who are trying
to do what you're doing. You know, I feel like
I find somebody new all the time. I'm like, oh,
my goodness, how how am I not heard of this person?
(27:00):
And people say that to me as well, like wow,
I can't believe I've never heard of you before, and
and so some people could see that as a challenge,
but I always just see it as Okay, well you
know me now, and and I'm and I'm grateful that
you have now been acquainted with with my music. I
also think that sometimes there can be pressure to fit
(27:21):
into whatever box, you know, society has created for an artist,
whether you're a female artist or you know, whatever, whatever
way you identify yourself, you can still people have these
expectations of what you should look like, what you should
sound like, and even genre wise, you know, people aren't
(27:41):
always open to, uh, someone who doesn't really fit fit
exactly in a particular box genre wise. I kind of
have considered myself that I just love all music. I
love country music, I love gospel music, I love you know,
R and B music, I love jazz, I love classical
(28:04):
and and really so many of those elements are a
part of who I am. You know, when I would
was touring with Quincy Jones, you know, years ago, May
he rest in peace. You know, I will be touring
with orchestras you know, and I will be doing misty
from uh you know, from the American songbook the Arrangement
of Sarah Vaughan. When I was with touring with David Foster,
(28:27):
I would do you know, I will Always Love You,
you know, from Whitney Houston, and that was the big ballad.
And you know, I grew up in the church, and
I also starred in a biopick was actually the number
one biopick of twenty twenty, called The Clark Sisters First
Ladies of Gospel. It was critically acclaimed, was nominated for
a Critics Choice Award and NAACP Award, won a Stellar Award.
(28:51):
And you know, I was playing a gospel artist during
the Clark Cole and so people assumed that I was
a gospel artist. So you know, all of those things
are are a part of me. All of those genres
are a part of me, and so sometimes there can
be some genre confusion. And so I have seen that
as a challenge, but I have kind of unapologetically stood
(29:12):
in all of those things and said, you know, those
are that's all of me. And I love this quote
by Sarah vaugh and she says, I'm not a jazz singer,
I'm not a pop singer. I'm not a classical singer.
I'm not a gospel singer. I'm a singer. And I
identify with that as well.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Yeah, I tell people like I said, it's an instant unification.
As soon as you get to singing those songs, those
beginning vocals and those lyrics come out. Man, it's just
taking people to church. And she's such just a wonderful
singer out there too as well. It's super talented.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
We love her. Here on the backstage.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Pass for more shile Music dot com s h e

Here the exact websites. All right, let's have a little
fun out there too. And that new single, time Machine
comes out next week May thirtieth, and of course every
the final Friday of every month, single coming out from
the Chilea Camp. All right, So I'm going to Nashville
(30:03):
here in a few weeks for the CMA Fest and
all this. And there's a place that a lot of
artists recommending I need to try called Bartaco. Now if
you've gone to town there too, whether it be for shows, vacationing,
things like that, Nashville is a great city and one
that I would not want to live in unless it
was on the outskirts. But going downtown is crazy and
I love it, and it's just full of that whole
festive feel and environment. You understand why they call it
(30:25):
music city. Your favorite restaurants to eat at are dining
out maybe in Nashville, Tennessee or any city for that matter.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
What do you like to eat?
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Oh, my goodness, what don't I like to eat? But
you know, I will say I do have a very
I guess you would say focused kind of diet. I
am a vegetarian slash vegan, you know, And so when
I have gone to Italy, it's like, Okay, the vegan
had to kind of go out the window because I
(30:54):
had to go. I was in Napoli where they invented pizza.
I had to drop the vegan act really quick. But no,
I love Nashville as well, I'm trying to think of
the last time I was there. I actually found a
vegan pizza place there and it was like, right there,
you know that this what's what is that strip called
(31:15):
in Nashville that's like really really popular Broadway must have
been Broadway, Yeah, and so it was.
Speaker 9 (31:21):
It was.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
It was right there, and I got some really really
incredible vegan pizza, which I know probably to most that
doesn't sound very appetizing, but I promise you it was
really really really good cheese. I know I might not
necessarily know meat because I was a vegetarian my whole life,
but but cheese and sweets, I know. So when they have,
you know, vegan options of that, I'm like, Okay, this
(31:43):
tastes just like the real thing. So and they are
not all created equals, so I'm not gonna say that
they're all good. But this one in Nashville was very good.
I can't remember the name of it. I can actually
see it right now, but I I just cannot remember
the name of it. But but yeah, I'm pretty easy,
all right.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
If you'd never become a working musician, like God, you
did because you're fantastic, got it? No doubt in the
artistry category. What other career path would.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
You have followed?
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Oh man, Well, you know, in another life, I was
actually a teacher, and that did not necessarily teach music.
I was in California. There's this test called the Sea
Best Test that you take and then you can teach
any subject K through twelve, you know, as a substitute teacher.
So I did that. I was I felt, really it
was very rewarding for me to be able to pour
(32:33):
into students. Just a shout out to teachers who sometimes
it can seem very thankless, but they are shaping society
and and so I want to just give them their flowers.
And I was amongst them at one point and loved it.
But you know, I love connecting with people and and
I sometimes I think I would have loved to be
(32:57):
to sell houses, just just sell a dream, you know,
like just hey, can't you see yourself here and doing
this and doing that? So maybe maybe that I don't
know something that deals with just connecting with people and
families and you know, just people.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Love that too. How you did a single? I love
so much?
Speaker 2 (33:18):
It was called This was October of twenty twenty, during
that pandemic time. There but we the people. And I
love the artwork with the American flag on it too.
Of course the block lettering with your name, and of
course the title of the song tell us all about
this one and kind of the idea behind it.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Yes, this was another song written by Alan Bergman of
the legendary duo husband and wife writing team Allan and
Marilyn Bergman, and you know, he just kind of was
seeing what was happening in our in our country and
our nation, and this is really just a song about
we the people wanting to take our power back and
(33:56):
and also just reflecting what's good and what unites us
and not what separates us. And I think that's what
this song is all about, just remembering why we should
be proud to be American.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
No nowb to love the title of it too, and
the message that that song sends out there too. So well,
she's great.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
