course it is Christmas time just a few weeks away
right there. Happy holidays to everybody listening in podcast and radio.
Lan out there too, and please to get out there

(00:33):
and just present some great holiday music out there. Our
good friend Kelly Lang back here on the show. Kelly,
how you doing, been good?

Speaker 1 (00:40):
How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
It's good, you know, looking forward to a little bit
of that rest and relaxation here in a few weeks.
Holidays always makes it uh time for family and time
with others, you know.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Well, it's I think a lot of mothers and wives
can probably argue that fact that there's no rest for
us during the holidays. It is shopping and packing and wrapping, cooking,
and oh it's my time to just go. Oh, I
can't wait till January.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I cannot either too. Of course, it's the time of year.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
They always say, you know, you get a little bit
in your wallet, and you're like, the wallet's gonna be
a little bit lighter because the department stores collect all that.
Credit card companies get happy this time of year too.
But you know what, it's cool now that I get
to share it with my soon to be six year
old daughter now in twenty twenty six, all that and
just give her all the gifts that I got when
I was at age.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
You know, Oh, I love it. Yeah, you know there's
lots of retro toys coming back. I understand, So you'll
be able to relive your childhood through her a.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Little bit, no doubt about it too. Well, tell us
what's been going on here. Obviously a fantastic release. We're
gonna play here tender Tennessee Christmas with you and the
great TG Shepherd out there too. Hopefully everything is going
well for TG, and they just talk about how this
one has come together and you guys get a chance
to spread a little bit of holiday cheer.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, he would be here with me. He's just a
little under the weather right now, so forgive that. He'll
come back and join us at another time, I'm sure.
But TG and I went into the studio several years
ago and recorded a single, and then the next year
we put another single out, and the next year we
put White Christmas out with the Oakridge Boys, and my
daughter was like, enough, already, where's the album, you know,

(02:15):
And we hadn't really intended to do an album, but
we thought we'd better maybe take her series on that.
So we started compiling a list of songs and just
really took our time putting it together. It's been like
a very long project, thought we would never end it,
and then all of a sudden it's here, you know.
So it's like it's snuck up on us for this season,

(02:35):
and we're really proud of The video that we filmed
for Tender Tennessee Christmas was actually filmed at the Johnny
Cash studio and cabin here in Hindersonville, and that was
kind of neat to be able to. It was like
ninety six degrees and we were sweating like pigs out there,
but it didn't look like it because there was snow
coming around the cabin and it was a lot of fun.

(02:57):
You can check it out on YouTube.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
I got to see the video, no doubt too.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
What as far as the plans go for the holidays,
you guys kind of just staying right there in the
Nashville area.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Are you traveling? Tell me about that.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
We had intended on going to New York, but our
plans have been diverted a little bit. But we'll just
stay home. The kids will come over Christmas Eve night.
They're both married, so it just kind of they have
to go to their separate in law kind of thing,
and TG and I generally do Christmas morning and then
we end up eating leftovers and going to movies the
rest of the day. So we're very boring. You have

(03:33):
to understand, Brandon. We're just we're just get it done
and then we just go chill.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, next week is my fifteenth wedding anniversary on Friday.
Congratulations it made it, I guess halfway up to thirty.
So that's a good sign right there too. Of course,
I always say the goal is to catch the in laws.
I think they're celebrating the fifty fifth or fifty fourth
something like that right now with a huge milestone.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Wow, I'll I.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
To catch that. But TG and I just celebrated to
twenty five years from our first day, so I'm counting
every little day.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Congratulations on that too, So I got to figure out
what gift to get the significant other, you know, for
that day. I know, Crystal has become a big sign
for fifteen years. They were talking about Ruby looking for
gift ideas, any gift ideas for my wife.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Well, diamonds are a girl's best friend, you know. You
know how that goes. Diamond earrings. Fifteen's a big one.
You need to be really careful. Maybe a designer purse
or maybe a trip, a romantic trip for you too.
That's always a winner.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
You know.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Girl power here in country music right now too. I
mean you just look at the cmas that just passed
in November and watching those at the same time, I
love it because you're getting not just lady doing her thing,
but right behind her is Ella Langley and so many
other great ladies.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
They're just doing their thing out there.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Talk about that for me and just the momentum ladies
are getting the respect they deserve in country music.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Well, I'm just so proud of them. You know. It's
just it's like when I was starting out, it was like, yeah,
well there's only a room for one or two. Maybe
maybe if you know, if you keep your mouth quiet
on the charts, you know, and it's just such an
evolution and it's just so powerful to see that it's
opened up the floodgates. And I'm really a fan of Lady's.

(05:18):
I think she's wonderful. And Ella, I mean, way to
go girls. You know, we've we've probably seen the evolution
come to be within this CMA Awards to the fruition
of all of it, because like when Shannai was coming along,
she knocked the glass ceilings open for these girls to

(05:39):
be able to come in and do something like this.
So Way to Go. It's just so cool to be
able to see them about like that.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Love it too, And I think the secret a lot
of times, as you and you know your your career,
you've done your solo projects and you guys have done
these things together. The secret really is in the song, right,
it's the songwriters in the song that you guys either presented,
are you right correct?

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Well, yeah, I'm like Conway, he used to say this
and it starts with the song. I agree with that.
But nowadays there's so many different levels with social media,
with video, with options to do you know, promotional things
for TV and commercial kind of things. There's so many
more powerful levels that you can go into as an

(06:17):
artist now that you might not have been afforded in
the day. Whereas you know, like j Lo is not
just a singer, she's not just an actor, she's not
just a ndancer. She's also a spokesperson for blah blah blah.
There's so many opportunities for people if you just are
smart in business, you know, and you can be a celebrity.
And celebrity lasts a lot longer than just an artist

(06:39):
or a musician. So I think that's it's a sweet
time for musicians already.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Now well, time to play this beautiful Christmas song. It's

point one, your Bay Area broadcasting network, in our friends

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Keep another till the Tennessee Christmass. The only Christmas for
me were the lone circles around us, like the gifts
surround the street. Will they say, now La, it's a

(09:39):
warm holiday.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
It's the only place being.

Speaker 6 (09:46):

Tender Tennessee Christmas.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
You guys work so hard on this tune and getting
everybody in the holiday mood as far as you know.
Closing this chapter of twenty twenty five, what are you
most looking forward to? Whether it be you guys together
during the first quarter of next year, or you as
a solo artist.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
As a solo artist, I'm about three fourths of the
way through with a solo album of all songs that
I've written, either written or co written. And I went
way way back in the catalog and pulled out a
song to start the project with. It's called Jealous Green Eyes,
and I co wrote it with Jim Weatherley, who wrote
Midnight Training to Georgia. So we're gonna start the project
with that one, and it's it's a kind of an

(13:26):
adult contemporary kind of project. I'm really looking forward to
sharing with everybody. In the spring, TG's got he's celebrating
his fiftieth year in country music and his if you
go to TG Shepherd dot com and look at his
tour dates, I don't know how he does it. I
can't keep up with the guy. So he starting January fourteenth,
it is like solid from then on, so I'm good

(13:48):
good for him. I can't can't keep up with that schedule.
But you'll see us doing some shows here and there.
We've got a show actually coming up in Nashville in
March in Franklin Theater in Tennessee. So that's one of
the first ones doing together this next year.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Hope I'll be there.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
That's the next time i'll get there is March eighteenth
to twenty at that the Country Radio Seminar, So i'd
love to see you guys.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
We are We're going to be doing the seminar and
I think our show is March twenty second at the
Franklin Theater. I'd love to have you come out.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
It'd be great to Yeah, definitely come out and support
you guys too. Hey, I wanted to ask definitely about chemistry.
The Duets collection, which was fantastic too, A lot of
cool things when you guys released this a June of
last year, and so many great songs to bring back
to a lot of the hits there too. But you
guys got to have special moments and do this together
as a couple, right, Oh.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
My gosh, it's so much fun. I tease with TG
because I know these songs innately, like just I know
the lyrics. For some reason, he does not like he
has to have the words written specifically on the paper,
and he will sing anything I type out, which I
type out some funny words to make him a little
messed up in the studio. But we have a lot

(14:59):
of fun. We laughed a lot, and we both enjoyed producing.
So it was just a kind of a labor.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Of love when you look back at it to the Duets,
I mean, of course, all those were just great hits
back of the day. Was there one that kind of
really just stood out for you guys and kind of
created that magic one song or two songs.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Well, there was one song, because you Loved Me. I
was really surprised when he heard it back in the studio.
I was in the booths singing, and when he heard
it all back, he started crying, which he's not a
real emotional guy. So I'm like, what is wrong with you?
Then I heard it back and I started crying too,
because it wasn't that we did such a great job.

(15:36):
It was that the lyrics really depicted how we feel
about each other and things that we have said to
each other most recently. It just kind of when you're
working on the project, you don't listen, you know, but
when you can stop and listen. As a fan of
the lyric and the melody, I was joining him in
that emotion. The song that we enjoy singing the most
on stage is probably I Love You More Today than Yesterday.

(15:59):
But funny, we love to sing it's a too late baby.
We love to sing that day and it's just got
a groovy little beat to it, you know. So we
just enjoyed doing that. People are like, oh, they're having
marriage problems. I'm like, oh please, it's just a song.
But a lot of these songs were never done as duets.
They were done as, you know, a solo artist doing them.

(16:20):
So it was kind of fun to tournament a duets
and have a different twist on them. All together.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
You had a beautiful record and the last time we
had talked to Dragonfly came out there as a solo
record for you. Talk about this one, give us an
update on just some great music, including that title track,
thank you.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Dragonfly was a weird project. I didn't mean to put
it out it just I really I didn't. I had
several songs that I just kind of had recorded hodgepodge
through the years, and dragonflies land on me all the time, Brandon,
like I'm in the pool and like they'll be they
just land on me. It's really a weird phenomenon. And
so a friend of mine says, you need to write

(16:58):
a song called Dragonfly, and I'm like, how can you
write a song about an insect? Really? You know? So
I went out to the pool and I hear they come,
you know, and I thought, Okay, I'm gonna try this.
So it's just really elementary. The song Dragonfly is very simple,
but it's a little magical, you know, so have your

(17:18):
listeners look up the video on that too, Dragonfly by
Kelly Lang. It's on YouTube or on my website Kelly
Lang dot net, and it kind of sets the whole
album apart, and it makes it very mystical kind of thing,
and it ended up being kind of a spiritual album.
We have some gospel songs on there and a song
I wrote cod I think It's Jesus, and it was
more of a spiritual project altogether than what I have

(17:42):
done in the past.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Well, it's always great music too, and I always love
spending time with you guys too. Looking forward to connecting
in March at Country Radio Seminar and of course out
there too. Health to good, a chance to stick around
for that show March twenty second in Nashville. Congratulations on
the title of the song. It is a fantastic love
it so much tender Tennessee Christmas across all the DSPs.
