be joined by Michael and Tanya Trotter of the great
up and coming group, the war and Treaty. How are
you guys doing? Oh so good, been so yeah, so
good to have you here too. Let's talk about this.
I got to see you guys last year we were
covering CMA week there in beautiful Nashville Tennis there in June,
(01:00):
and it was awesome to get out there to the
Music City Center, do a lot of coverage, a lot
of great interviews out there. What was it like for
you both to step on stage and be very high
on that card at Nissan Stadium. I was sitting there
in stands watching you guys do your thing and opening
for some great acts out there, to supporting everybody on
that great lineup. Talk about that and just Cmafest twenty
twenty four. For the both of them, it was insane.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
I mean, do you walk on the stage and you know,
soundcheck is one thing, but when all those bodies get
into that arena, that stadium, it's amazing. And we were
just floored, you know, there with our band and the crowd,
that the rush, the sounds. It was amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
When you look back at it too. And we'll talk
about this album here a little bit, and playing a
couple of songs today too, you guys obviously husband and wife.
For those who do not know the group, the War Entreaty,
welcome to it. You get to learn about a new
great country act here on the show out there. I
want to ask you guys about when this kind of
came together, when you guys thought about putting this together
husband and wife and coming up with the name the
War and Treaty. And it seems like music has just
(02:04):
come natural to the both of you because I love
your vocals. I love this record plus one, which we'll
talk about the tour here in a second, but Michael,
talk about just how this came together and you know
why you guys wanted to pursue this as a couple.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Well, it came together when Tityan's about to kick me
out the house. No no, no, Ell play fun. We
know it came together.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Tyan and I we got married, we loved each other,
and Tyan knew I was writing music for.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Her and her brother. But then one day she and
I sang together. It's tind of rehearse the songs, and.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Some one of our friends was like, hey, man, that right,
there ain't no sibling harmony. That right, there is some
baby making harmony. I don't know what's going on, what
y'all got going on there? And uh, we decided to
explore that, and so we ended up exploring what that
person said, and then we had a baby and then
(02:59):
we sang a song, so they were right.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
That was a three year span too, because we didn't
sing together for three years. We're married for three years
before we actually sang a note together.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Let's talk about this album before I play one off
of it too. For Plus one, which is a current
tour out there again the Warren Treaty dot com for
more information, and we'll talk about the Sana fe New
Mexico show here in a little bit too. For KKTC

the best in country music. So check it out at
the Caidangordonshow dot com. Again, that is the Caden Gordon
Show dot com.
Speaker 15 (08:09):
Hey guys, this is Nashville recording artist Kirsty Kraus and
you're listening to the award nominated Backstage Past podcast on KYBN,
your Bay Area broadcasting network.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
And back you're with Kaiden Gordon again, Brandon Morel again, KKTC,
Truth Country ninety nine point nine and Beautiful Tawsi Mexico
and of course ninety eight point one KYBN, your Bay
Area broadcasting network out there. So Tanya, I love this
one too, because lovelike Whiskey really sets a toll them
for this record for plus one and then you get
into a song like Skyscraper that really takes it to
another level.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Oh yeah, I absolutely love it. We did that with
Miranda Lambert. It was a co write I would love
like Whiskey, So that was a lot of fun. We
drank a lot, but Miranda, and you know, she's a genius.
Most people don't know that. You know, she's an incredible
in the studio and she's become a good friend of
so we're very grateful for that. And Skyscraper, I mean,
(09:04):
I've always loved that song. Michael wrote that song about
I would say about ten eleven years ago. We used
to go out in Richmond when we lived out there,
and I take this cassio keyboard with the battery in
it and take them outside and say, Michael, go play
it on the sidewalk. So he was instead of having
a guitar playing on sidewalk. He had his keyboard, so
it was just telling his story. I think it's a
(09:26):
well written song and I'm so happy that we had
opportunity to put it on this record.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Love it so much. Let's talk about Lover's Game a
little bit too, the last two record you guys put
out there at twenty twenty three. Loved it so much.
Blank Page was on there too. Ain't no harm in me.
A lot of great, great to music there. That's how
love is made. I'll tell you what's it gets straight
to the point, Michael, when you hear a song like that,
that's right.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
We wrote that song with guy in Nashville named Dave Barnes.
We just really wanted to make a statement about how
love's made. And it ain't just about going into the bedroom.
It's about making sure to a partner all day long.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
And I love that.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I love the fact that you guys put this record
out back to Plus one a little bit on Valentine's Day.
That had to be very special, not just be being
a happily married couple. And like you said, love is
a two way street, and being married is a two
way street. No doubt, it's a fifty to fifty partnership too.
But launching this record on Valentine's Day had to be
very special.
Speaker 14 (10:21):
It was.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
It was I mean, it's the day of love, baby,
and we we want to make sure that we always
do something special on that day, and this year was
just going ahead and releasing this, this love letter.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
To the world.
Speaker 11 (10:36):
Absolutely, So tell us more about one of the best
interactions that you've ever had while performing.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Yeah, the best interaction.
Speaker 11 (10:48):
Yeah, Oh my good.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Oh well, this is a little I won't tell that story.
We got into an argument.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
This is the only time we've ever gotten to an
argument before show, and we were we went on stage,
we were still mad at each other the whole time,
and it was time to sing that song you just
said talked about that's how love is made. So I
say to the audience, I'm like, listen, guys, right before
we got on the stage, we had a fight, Like
all day long, we have been talking, so I have
to We're gonna apologize to each other right here, right
(11:17):
now on the stage, and the crowd erupted. They were like,
oh my god. And so we kissed off stage. We
said we were sorry, and then we say no, she
said she was sorry.
Speaker 11 (11:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, I was in the cat house, he was in
the doghouse, and we kissed each other and we sang
That's how love is made, and it was so it
was so cool.
Speaker 11 (11:36):
That is a wholesome for sure.
Speaker 14 (11:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
You know, the collaborations are becoming more of the norm
in the industry today. Michael and I love this one.
We got to talk about the great billy strings and
drink from me on the album plus one.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
That's my buddy, Michigan buddy. We decided to a song
together and he came and just ripped the guitar and
just really love having him on that record. And I'm
gonna be on his We got we got something coming
out in the near future. So collaboration is everything.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Like you said, let's talk about the lead the leadoff
song to it, Love like Whiskey. What a great feel
and boy, this will uh it'll take you to uh
say church and then some too looking back at with
a great feel to it, because man, we all love
different flavors of whiskey out there, whether it goes down
rough or it goes down smooth. But at the same time,
life should be love like whiskey, right, Tanya, Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Life is love like whiskey, whether you like it or not.
You're gonna get some rough stuff, You're gonna get some
smooth stuff, and then you get some stuff that don't
taste so good, you know, and some things it tastes great.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
So that's life, you know.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
I love it well. Time to player second track. Here
again the war and treaties you wanting us here on
the backstage past powered by the Sports Guys podcast dot com.

love having him with us today talking about Plus one
and the tour and all that great stuff. So save me, Michael.
(17:19):
We all need to be saved in life. And like
I said, look up to a higher power. This song
did justice.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Oh man, you know I think about that song often
and what it meant to me to write it, and
all roads lead to Tanya. I didn't want, you know,
when I asked God to see me an angel, I
wasn't thinking of Gabriel Well, Michael, I was thinking of Tanya,
(17:47):
and he's He's center and she saved my life.
Speaker 19 (17:50):
Oh tell, yeah, you got You've got a comment after that,
I always say to him, we saved each other's life
because I was completely done with music, right you know,
months maybe six months into meeting him, and he revived me,
you know, really put added new life into someone who
(18:11):
had been completely just burned out by everything.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
And his joy and his love and just support really
gave me life, you know. And he saved me too.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
So we saved each other, no doubt. Again. The war
intreaty dot com again for more information for those tour dates.
A couple I'm gonna throw out there too, is gonna
be May tenth, Anton's Nightclub in Austin, Texas. Down here
too in Texas. They love their music. May eleve at
the Heights Theater in Houston and of course out there.
Two May thirteenth in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Lensing
Performing Arts Center. All the tickets can be purchased at
(18:44):
the Warretreaty dot com. So this plus one tour, Michael,
I know fans are yearing up for this. They're loving
this city to city, town to town and again already
just salivating over this record plus one and now the tour.
Talk about this in the build up now for you
guys hitting the road.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Excited and really happy to meet some more fans and
share what we prepared and really get deeper into this great,
great genre we call country music.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
That's the beauty of it. Two, we love it so much. Hey,
I want to ask you guys about just a business
in general. How tough it is out there too, to
you know, climb that ladder and everybody pays their dues
and they say Nashville's a ten year town or even
more sometimes and you look at the great you know
market right now, the way females are doing their thing
too as well, you know, setting the tone, what Laney's
been doing, you know, taking home the hardware over the
last few years. How does that, I guess two part
(19:30):
of here, how does that motivate you guys to just
continue to put out great songs that resonate with fans
and just continue to climb that ladder, But also talk
about some things Michael that maybe fans don't see, some
of the obstacles you have to overcome in this business.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Yeah, I think we just have to keep working hard
and keep some things in the proper perspective.
Speaker 11 (19:49):
I know that.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Laney is very big on staying grateful, being grateful.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Conversation sheet and Tanya and I have had it always
leads to the grateful combo, and I love that on
What you don't see here in the town of Nashville
is you don't see the slam doors that you may
get or the nose that that sometimes really hurt, especially
(20:23):
the nose from those you thought were going to be
in the long haul for you with you.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
But if you can get over that hurdle, there's glory
on the other end of that. And so again, Tyan
and I are just so happy to be in this
genre and to be working in this town in Nashville.
Speaker 20 (20:45):
Definitely, Tanya. I really liked what you said about being
burnt out. And for any artist that feels like that
they're burnt out right now and they can't get to
the next level and be where maybe the big artists are,
what advice would you give them?
Speaker 19 (21:00):
Throw all of.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Those thoughts out the window and do it for the music.
I think that once you decide that you want to
be a musician or an artist or a creative, there
is no there. Everyone wants to get there, you know,
but everybody's there looks different. If you sat down with
ten different artists, they would tell you that they all
(21:23):
got to where they are in different ways. Some people
played in clubs, some people went on American Idol, some
people you know, got discovered on TikTok. So whatever your
there is, if you stay true to the music, the
music will take you where it needs to take you.
Speaker 11 (21:36):
Man Amen to that very well.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
That Let's talk about the Grandell Lopry too with this
album plus one there two at the same time, you
guys celebrating, you know, the kind of the kickoff there too.
At that. I know you guys love playing that stage.
We've done some live shows from there. Both Caden and
I have done that, and it's amazing to see those
events come around every year because they get a chance
to see the center circle. They go backstage, and of
course you step out in that circle. Michael. Well, it's
(22:00):
got that surreal feeling in that moment that knowing all
the greats that have plaques on the walls backstage during
those dressing rooms. What does that feel like to step
on the stage with Tanya at the Grand Old Obrary.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Gosh, man, it feels darn good.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
It feels like history. It feels like you're embarking on
an incredible turney. It feels like you're a part of
something that has already taken place and that will continue
to take place.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
I love the Grand Old Library.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
And Tany for you, that has to be just as
special as I'm sure it hiss for Michael too.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Right, completely, it's beyond a dream come true. I couldn't
have conjured this up in my own mind, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Hey, let's have a little fun here too, wrap it
up with the show, because I know you guys have
to run here in just seconds. Let's talk a little
bit about food in there, because I'm a foodie. I
know Michael. This is great because Nashville has great food
on every corner. Y'all were talking about barbecue here in Texas.
But I love me some Martin's barbecue, Michael. In Nashville, Tennessee.
When you guys go out and have a night on
the town, what are some of the restaurants you like
to dine in?
Speaker 2 (22:59):
A oh Man, We actually okay, so we do the
Green Chili. That's a beautiful Indian restaurant here. We love
Indian food, and they got some great Indian food out
at the Green Chili.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
I can't wait to come to come to Santa Fe.
You got some good food in Texas for the barbecue.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Brisket.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
And briskets where it's at no doubt that's a good
all right. Flavors of ice creams, you get that sweet
tooth is an ice cream versus something else that's sweet?
Speaker 11 (23:31):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Oh?
Speaker 17 (23:34):
I love che.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
Like toasting tolerance. You're lying. She's doing cheesecake all night.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Cheesecake all night too. All right? If you guys had
not come together and kind of resurrected it and become
the Warren Treaty, let's talk about other Everybody says, well,
there's no plan being. I'm like, well, you know what,
sometimes we have to ask the questions. What we do here?
Broadcasting other career opportunities, occupations. If if you both weren't
doing music, Michael will start with you, what other occupation
outside of music? If you weren't doing it, what would
(24:05):
you be doing.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
I'd be a pediatrician working with babies. Okay, okay, yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Tony, yeah, I'd be a cosmetologist. I actually have my
cosmetology license. That was my plan.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
B Let's just say A has worked out really good.
The name itself. Michael will love it because you don't
see anything like this in music when it comes to
duo is putting their name on something. The War and treaty.
Tell me how the name came about.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Well, I'll be honest with your name came about. It
was arguing about changing the band name again. Tanyan was
getting upset because I wanted to change the band name.
We had changed it eight times already, and she was like, Michael,
this is not how you brand. This isn't professional. I'm like,
I don't really care. We need a band name that
has meaning. And we got into arguing and finally she said, okay,
(24:57):
this is not the war We need to come to
some sort of treaty.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
I said, we just did. You just named the band.
It's called the ward Tree and sl.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
