(00:51):
guest of the Day's got a new, brand new EP
out there. Quit Being Country is the title of it. Here, uh,
the one the only Tyler Fard of the program. Tyler,
what's up?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
All? Just been hunting a little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Hey that time of or the weather's changing.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
I guess, like I said here in Texas, a little
bit warm and then you get the cold snap come
in so the weather. Can't really figure out what he
wants to do down here in Texas.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Now, you know, well, I can't get too cold down
there in Houston. I mean just minor here. It's been
like twelve degrees the last week.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
That's that's that's a little bit. Yeah, caled More called
that I could put up with down here too. We Hey,
tell us about this new ep out there quit being country.
I had to feel good for you guys. Six great
songs on there came out at the beginning of November.
How much fun was it to finally put out some
new music that fans are already resonating with.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Honestly, honestly, I.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Just wanted to put out, you know, get out some
new music to fans because you know.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Me as an artist, a lot of.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Times you'll go, well, they if I don't have a
the number one song on the.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Radio, they ain't gonna listen to my stuff.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
And that's what separates country fans from other fans. And
that's why I love country music, because those fans are
super loyal and they just want you to put out
and new music. They're die hard and they stick by
in they you know, i'ven't changed what I've done really.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
And if you, you.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Know, stay true to what you do, those fans are
loyal and those stick by you, and that's that's what
I love about it. So that's what we try to
do on the CP is just try to put out
an EP that, you know, I don't try to make
music for everybody like some people, like I wish I
was the I'm gonna make music for everyone in the

(02:46):
world like I make music for.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Country music fans.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
That's what I make music for and people that understand
what I do, and and that's it. I'm not, you know,
trying to be a worldwide celebrity. I just happen to
love country music and I'm gonna keep making country music
for my fans.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
And they're very low and.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
They we made on the songs like I don't write
songs about stuff I don't know about. I don't record
songs about stuff I don't know about. So there's you know,
Louis Paton or Baton or Gucci is not mentioned a
reference in my songs, and I'm doing weird stuff isn't either.

(03:39):
So it's just it's country music and I'm glad people
want to hear more of you.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
You're staying true to the dues out there too, speaking
of a big tour kicking off February sixth, the Quit
Being Country Tour, tell us all about this gonna be
exciting for you guys, and I can't wait to see
you play live out there too, and to take this
music on the road and to get a tour out
of it.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Coming up in February.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Well, yeah, and that's the day after my birthday. My
birthday is on February fifth, and I turned forty two,
so I'm an old codger now.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
It's time of year, it's usually pretty slow, so we
decided we would do a acoustic tour, like because I've
never done anything like this before. There are a lot
of times I love playing acoustic more, and I even
like playing full band just because it's a whole different deal.

(04:39):
Like I remember playing at the rhyme and acoustic and
it's sometimes it's just special and people get a different
kind of feeling from that, and it'll be cool to
play some.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
New songs and you know, you can connect a little more.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Playing you stick with your shoe and a guitar, then
you can sometimes with a full band in the stadium
or whatever.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
So I'm pretty pumped about it.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, quit being Country Tour about to kick it off,
and yeah I'm excited about it.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Well I have to and I love this song. Here.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
We got to play it here on KYBN ninety eight
point one, your Bay Area broadcasting network. Tyler for joining
us here the backstage pass. It's called love Me Back
here it is crack it up off the new EP.

And welcome back here to the show again too. Tyler
Farr joining us here at the new record out there too.
Quit me and Country came out November the seventh that
loved me back. Tyler's coming up join us here too,
as he's a hunting out there too. I have to
get some deer for this time of year out there too.
Talk about this one because I think when it first
came out, that was one of the first ones that
I really enjoyed listening to.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Was so lovely back.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Save my buddy. I toured with him, I used to.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
I've ridden a lot of guys tour buses and I
still to this day have no idea why they let
me tag along. I've baffled because I wouldn't let me
tag along.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
But Josh Thompson was a writer on this, and he's.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
One of the I don't know, the best songwriters I've
ever written with.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Me and him actually had.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
A trace hacking single called Cheef Jones a while back.
He's just been doing great for herself. Was an artist
on Sony Records when I was signed on there, and
I'm just a big fan of his. You know, he
had I don't know if you know the song way
out of Here that he had one of my favorite songs.

(11:37):
But just a great dude, big hunter, big outdoorsman, great songwriter,
and I was proud to be able to do a
song he.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Was part of.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
When you look back at that. I love the title
of this too because you mentioned staying true to your
roots on this record here too, and I loved it
because you had coming to a bar near you. It
was one of my favorites. And then, of course, you know,
wait for it. That's all we all the time need
to say wait for it in life, because that's the
slogan we should live by.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Right.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Sometimes it comes sitting in this deer stand, or for
your wife to.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Understand how you work.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
She still ain't gonna understand how I'll work when I
get inside.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
But you know, wait for it.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
That's the truth too. I love it too.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
That's gonna be just a great tour starting out there
February the sixth, too. Hey, talk a little bit about this.
I wanted to get into you know, a lot of
the just great hits back of the day. But I mean,
those first two albums both debuted top five on the
Billboard two hundred and still today, you're the only solo
male country artists.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
In the past decade to do so.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
When you look at that, you look at all the
hits you reflect back on those hits and those songs
in that accomplishment Redneck Crazy, Whiskey in My Water guy
walks into a bar, which we're gonna play here in
a little bit too. The songs stand the test of
time for country music. Talk about that for me.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Yeah, Honestly, when I found out that, it was like,
you're the first artist in the last decade to debut
his first two albums in the top five Billboard, I
literally googled it to make sure.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Someone was messing with me because I didn't.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Believe it because that, I mean, that's pretty, it's really cool, actually,
but you know that that stuff like that, I never
you know, when I moved to town, I just you know,
I want to have a family, a tractor or some land,
a place to hunt on, and that was it. And

(13:46):
you know, I joke around and say that, you know people,
I said I should have set my goals a little higher,
because you know, it's like, after I got this, I
don't want to say I just sat back, but.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
You know, I'm very appreciative of what, very bussed what
I got.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
When you look back at a song like Whiskey in
My Water, when you guys kind of got that one,
you know, push to you there too at the same time,
and a song like that as good as that was
a story that it told looking back out of this
what country music is all about, just storytelling in a song.
Did you kind of feel like that could be something special,
like a number one hit in the studio before it
was released.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Man, I'll be honest with you. We wrote that. We
were out in East Tennessee. We wrote it.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
I'll just be honest, because that's it is what.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
It I mean, I've wrote it.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
We wrote it in forty five minutes, and I might
I had this little riff and I'm not a great
guitar player and i was just playing this and I
didn't even know what chords they were, and.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
I'm just it just kind of fell out, you know.
And a lot of times from like times like that,
it's like, you know, I just I hold the band
and God writes a song, you know, And sometimes I
did that and.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
That's you know, sounds cliche, but it's oftentimes tree.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
That's the truth. As God holds out in the hand.
We sometimes unanswered prayers and answered moments out there too.
And like I said, he's the only one to know
what's going to be a number one hit and of
course just people's destinies out there too, So I understand
I love it because the Georgia Bulldogs. I'll tell you this, man,
the College Football Playoff is about to be on the
precipice of us. The twelve teams talk about Georgia's run

(15:34):
this year SEC champions.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
I know for you it had to tickle you to death,
didn't it. We're gonna smoke them all, just cut through.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
I will say this. So this year I've been in Georgia.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
People think I'm from Georgia originally because I've been a
Georgia Bulldog fan since I moved to town. Started working
with the Peach Biggers, red Akins and just a Filly
and played in cold Ford's band, and you know, friends
with Brandley Gilbert, Jason Alden and that a lot of

(16:13):
these guys are from Georgia and Luke Bryant and like,
and I'm not even from Georgia.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
But when I moved to town, you had.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
To pick an SEC team, And I honestly, I moved
here when I was twenty one and I hated Tennessee's
colors because they were orange. And now I only wear
orange when I'm in a deer stand and my high
school colors are red and black. And you know, Rett kind.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Of got me going then. I was like, I like
George bulldofs who been a fan. I was twenty one,
I'm forty one. Now.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
There's a lot of hard times. We were winning some championships.
We took a little hiatus.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
But this year and the you know.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
The the portal and all that stuff, it's made things
very interesting. But what I see what the Georgia Bulldogs
is worth a pretty young team. But Kirby Smart, I
will say, is like, we couldn't ask for a better coach, and.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Our young team is growing every single week.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
So while some teams are staying stagnant, we're just getting
better and better. And I'm gonna put Georgia head like
the top team in the country right now. And I
don't you know, Ohio State can kiss my head. I mean,
I don't you know.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Hey, I'll take the Dogs over o Iioa State any day,
no doubt about a gunner stocked and a young quarterback.
I love seeing him play the position. He's learning so
much doing it with his arm, his feet and uh,
you mentioned probably the best coach in college football right now.
To me, I'd say, of course, I'm an aggy down
here to SEC being a Texas A and M. But
I'll say this, Mike Elko has done his share of
the work Texas A and m mc kirby. Smart is

(18:12):
a national champion right there. Now, you can't take that
away from somebody being two time national champion.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Well, I mean if you heard his his pre speech
before the national championship a while back.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
I did hear that. I did, But it's been been
a few years, but I did hear that.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Yeah, a little bit cussing in there, a little bit
of aggressiveness, but that's why I love him.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Yeah, he's just he's that kind of guy, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
Well, we got to play another one here a KYBN
ninety eight point one, your Bay Area broadcasting network at
the Sports Guys podcast dot Cole will take you back
to the suffering piece record there, back to our favorite
year one of them. I'll say twenty fifteen. A guy
walks into a bar and he walked out with a
number one hit with his song It's Tyler Farr and
the backstage pass.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Stay tuned.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
The joke's on me.

Speaker 10 (19:14):
It ain't funny.

Speaker 9 (19:16):
Everybody to me.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
He could see the punch line coming a mile way.

Speaker 7 (19:25):
I've heard some men at times. I could tell it
to the tea. Believe me, I could sell it. How
day it goes.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
A guy walks a little bar go it's a drink.
She's a girl that catches his eye.

Speaker 9 (19:46):
Ask her she wants another to faller each other end
of the lover's life, cry hold on time and work
for a little while, and one life, tell a life.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Spade out of the door.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Me keeping in a lot of prider hip. Give me ho.

Speaker 6 (20:24):

Speaker 2 (20:37):

Speaker 5 (20:56):

(21:19):

The loves and laugh, cry hold on time, May you

Speaker 4 (24:56):
And you know I say this.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
You mentioned about when a song gets pinned you never
know good Lord's work in magic, and man, uh, you
know you just told a story with one of the
best country ballads of all time.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
Talk about this one for us. A guy walks into
a bar.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Honestly on this one. So this is a this is
a minute.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Ago, I don't know, probably eight years ago. Jim Contino,
producer and Julian King. And back in the day we
used to do I don't even know if they still
do them or just watch TikTok now. But we would
go to pitch meetings and get pitch songs.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
We would do this.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
We would walk around to these different publishing houses on
Music Row in Nashville, and these they would these folks,
they would these different publish companies would play us. You know,
I don't know ten songs. They picked their best songs.
They had all their roots and and I got pitched
gywalks into a bar. But for me, it was like

(26:07):
overproduced and I just didn't I couldn't hear it. And
I was done with this little Music Row thing. I've
got finished that up. And I went to Winters on
Music Row, which is a bar my buddy Steve Ford owned,
and I went there, sat down, I had a whiskey drink,

(26:29):
and there were writers doing like a round and Jonathan Singleton,
which was the writer of Guy walks in the bar.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
He started playing you know, he just breaks in, you know,
jokes only and it ain't funny. And I turn around, like,
holy crap. He keeps singing it, and I'm like, is
that the song? I heard her?

Speaker 1 (26:55):
And I went up to his publisher was in the room.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Standing over there and I'm gonna I knew Alex said on.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
I said, dude, is that don't hold yet by anybody?
And he said no, And I said, that's going to
a first single off the next record.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
And it was was that that single, no doubt too.
You know, I still think back to even twenty thirteen.
I mean I still been back to my say, college
years and when I'm going to school too and not
trying to sit there. We mentioned I'm in my forties
now too. I'll turn forty six in February coming up
here too. But man, Redneck Crazy, when I start thinking
about that, and you know, twenty thirteen and how it's
now twelve years old and looking back, I mentioned these

(27:34):
staying the test of time. But another great country song
that just told a story about a relationship and about
finding the right you know, significant other, your partner in life,
and man, it just it just did it for a
lot of country fans out there. You mentioned loyal country
fans and storytelling and music, but Redneck Crazy, well, I
know it was damn special for y'all too.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Man.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
People, some people will tell me, like, man, Redneck Crazy
changed my life. What blows on? I like, because I did.
I didn't that song. I did not write that song,
but it was real. This girl that I knew from

(28:18):
a publishing company, literally satin. She got my truck one
night and she goes, You're the only person that's gonna
be able to pull this thing off. And I didn't
really know whether to take that as a compliment or like,
you're the only crazy some VI's gonna be able to
do that. Like I didn't know, and uh, I listened

(28:41):
to it and I'm like, yeah, I need to cut that,
and honestly.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
Reading that.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Crazy was not the first single off Like my first
debut album, the first single was hot Mess. The second
single was a song I wrote called Hello Goodbye, And
then finally I just said, you know.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
What, screw it. We got to send it because.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
I knew we'reting that Crazy was different, but it was
real and I'd been through that. I just got cheated
on by an ex girlfriend I thought would crush me forever,
and it obviously still did. I'm still torn. I'm joking,
but uh no, so I heard that, and uh, finally,

(29:32):
after those first two singles pretty much tanged to him, Mike,
we got to swing for the fences and Sony Records
were pretty nervous about releasing it, and I said, we
got to send it, and we did and it it
was a gamble and it paid off.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
Yeah, give me some thoughts on that too, because you
see a lot of people now with social media. It's changed,
you know, the music industry today too. And even back
when CDs, people are like, what's that? Well, yet you
know what one of those years we used to sell
them a concerts. Some people still do viral records all that.
So much has changed through social media. But now you
see out there kind of doing it on the independent
side of things. They don't need a label behind them too.

(30:11):
Some still like the label side of things to get
a record deal, but a lot of artists can do
it now independently with the help of social media. I
wanted to get your take on the last twenty years.
I guess pros and cons for everything, right.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
I mean, the good news is like with all that,
But I guess what the real big change was is.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
When covid, hit and TikTok came very prevalent.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
And you know, back when I was starting now.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
You know, I played four showcases, which is where you
would play in a venue around Nashville and labels would.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Come and listen to you and be like, do we
want to sign them or do we not?

Speaker 1 (30:58):
They just scroll TikTok and which is fine. But live
music is always going to prevail in my opinion. So
now you got this AI. Like the top song the
other week was AI and I might.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
I just I just write my truck down these back
roads and listen to Hate Junior and you know, just
block all the rist of that crap out. But it's
it's benefiting artists that are getting started, I think because
people that were normally wouldn't know how to get their

(31:42):
stuff out there able to do it. I got in
a car, a really crappy car, and drove to Nashville.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
And had no plan and it, you know, worked my
ass off and it panned out for me. And I'm
proud of myself for that. It took a lot of
you know, not everyone. A lot of people are scared
to do that.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Now they don't really have to, so it's like they
can put their stuff on TikTok and that's good.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
But it's.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
I don't know if I miss the old days a
little bit. I missed the having to play the honky
tonks and like a good live show. But not to
say there's a lot of artists like you know, I mean,
to hell, Gavin ad Talk, I think he's great. There's
there's several artists that are. So it's allowing these newer

(32:44):
artists to get discovered without just having to load up
off the crap and moving to Nashville.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Which I was just the only reason I did. I
was just dumb enough to do it, and I did
that well.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
They paid off for you, no doubt. Hey, I gotta
ask you about this. A couple of things here, Damn
Good Friends. I love this one. You mentioned Jason Aldine
and just a great song that was off that Suffering
Piece record too, that came out there a few years back.
Just a lot of good times. And you mentioned not
just a great song, but you're having a good time
with a song, is telling a great story with some
of your best friends. You're right, it's why you title

(33:22):
it damn good Friends. But you almost had a lot
of fun with this and just making this particular song.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Yeah that I mean that one Jason's you know, I
toured with Jason for two years and started hunting with
him and then you know, soon after became Willie Robertson.
But I started hunting with the guys from Buck Commander

(33:47):
and Willie had asked me to.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Asked me if I.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Want to be a part of it and be an
owner and Buck Commander. So I've been an owner in
Buck Commander for about six years. And you know, just
that's the special thing about country music is that you
get guys that get along, have the same interest. And
Jason loves and he's a Georgia fan.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
I'm a Georgia fan.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Luke, you know Buckmannard's basically three country singers, three retired
baseball players, and Woodie Robertson and uh, you know Ryan
Langerhand's Tombo, Martin Adam Roach met Luc Brian and Jayson
Aaldean and uh, we have a damn good time and

(34:36):
they're the real deal. And they ain't changed since I
met him, and I can honestly say that, and uh,
hopefully I ain't changed since anyone's met me.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
I doubt it.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
But hey, that the National Finals rodeo just took place
there in Las Vegas. I wanted to get your take
on just out the way. So I was busy, crazy
enough out there that times never slowed down when it
comes to the National Finals rodeo. But big week for
you guys kind of hit on some of the highlights
from it.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah, it was crad like, so we did.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
We did a little acoustic show, pop up show at
the Doghouse my buddy Steve Ford Run's and it was
kind of in and out, but we went over my
friends that own a gear. They were over there at
the Cowboy Christmas and.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Good God, just to make the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Look very small, like there were so many but it
looked like a damn Cavenders threw up in there.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
I mean, there's hats everywhere, and I felt like.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
I was about to step on cow crap at any
moment because there's so many rednecks and cowboys in there.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
But it was It's cool. It's good to be in
Vegas and.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
I just love seeing I don't know why I love
seeing rednecks and cowboys in Vegas.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
I just love it.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
A good times out there too.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Hey, a few months back, I was good to see
my buddy on the show here too, and he's done
it a couple of times. You mentioned knowing him out there,
but it was actually the same day your record came out,
November seventh, he put out the record a little out
there for his twelve songs. Good to see Colt Ford
back on his feet again and doing what he loves
to do after the whole health scare thing. But I
thought it was just really cool to see him on camera,

(36:29):
do the interview with him on the show Highlight this
record and one of your good friends man out there
do what he loves to do again, right, And.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Yeah, he helped get me started.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
And I mean I can't I can sit here and
will you talk for two hours about how much I
love that day and just a great human being. And man,
I just I've been through this whole thing with him
and it's been crazy, man, just what he's went through

(37:03):
and the struggles, and you know, sometimes I didn't really
know what to.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Tell them, and you know who does really, But.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Seems like he's overcoming and I've seen it. I saw him,
like I don't know, earlier this year. Seems like he's
doing a lot better in good spirits. And I have
so many memories, some memories I can't even share with.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Gol for but some wawful house memories.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
Some yeah, all kinds stuff, but I love, love that duty.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
He's one of my favorite people.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Great guy, no doubt about it too as well. And
I'll tell you what, we love this record, this album.
And I guess what, he's got a deer coming behind
that stand coming up a little bit too. He's got
to get that shotgun ready out there too. And of
course the big tour starts up February sixth, coming out
there to the Quit Being Country Tour and the EPs
across all the DSPs there.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
It just came out to November the seven.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
I want to say Tyler Mery, Christmas, Happy New Year
to you and the family, and of course get you
a buck for a dove out there. Happy Holidays and
happy new Year, and good luck with this record and
the tour. And we appreciate you joining us here on
the backstage past my friend. Hope you enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
I appreciate it, buddy, Thank you.
