doing this shows always to identify new talent out there,
especially when they just had their twenty first birthday out there,
Will Terry so the program will How you doing, brother?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Oh man, I'm doing good.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
It's good man. We just were talking a little bit
off the air about CMA week and how much of
a blur. You don't remember very much of CMA week,
do you?

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Well?

Speaker 5 (01:26):
The week I remember the weekends just a little bit foggy,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
My birthday was Saturday, so Friday night was uh was
was the beginning of the end, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Hey, successful for everybody out there. It's like I said,
country music. It's the biggest week of the year, and
people come worldwide to see everybody, uh play the stage.
As you mentioned, you had a little set at ten
Roof and uh again, just kind of cool to meet everybody.
And it's, like I said, just a big reunion, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
Oh yeah, yeah, man, It's it's awesome to go out there,
and you know, sometimes with riots and stuff, I ain't
got much going on right now, but I am riding
more and not able to do as much for my
buddies as I used to. So, you know, having that
week to get everybody together, go watch some shows, play
some shows, it's it's always fun.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Let's talk about your background a little bit. Roam Georgia
to Nashville, Tennessee, which is really cool. Uh, talk about
when this music bug you kind of bit and uh,
when you're like, you know what, I'm taking this, I'm
gonna make it a career. Tell us that story.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
I guess the music adventure really started with guitar, and Uh.
I picked up the guitar when I was I always
like toaded like a little round when I was little.
But I really started digging deep into guitar when I
was in probably sixth grade. And at the time, my
mom was going through law school and everything, and uh

(02:47):
so I was hanging out with my dad a lot,
and he listened to mainly rock music, and so that's
what I started learning.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
And I started actually started.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
On the electric guitar and not an acoustic, so I
was just learning solos and uh, records and all kinds
of stuff. So that really kind of helped me out
in the future, you know, looking back on it. But uh, yeah, man,
that's how it started with a guitar, and then I
did that up until I was a freshman in high school.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
And then I kind of sing you know, hell.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
The girls are like, you know, the girls are liking
country more than they are rock, so I might as
well make the transition over to that. And but I've
always kept a good strong balance with with my genres
and my mom, like when we would hang out, She's
the one that introduced me to the Outcast and TWUPAC

(03:38):
and three six Mafia and which. But I'm from the South,
so country was around inevitable. But yeah, that's really what
got me into the music. But when I started singing,
I was probably a sophomore in high school and kind
of started taking it more serious. And you know, I
played my first show when I was fifteen, and it was,

(03:59):
I say show, It was like two or three songs,
and uh but it really, you know, sparked that firing
me to want to keep doing it. So from there on,
I just kept playing bars and whatever they let me.
And then I ended up going to college and dropped
out after like six weeks and oh, then I got

(04:19):
a job for about a year and then I started,
you know, doing I always kept doing music, you know,
and then music just started kind of finding this way
back and kept writing songs, and the songs kept on,
you know, getting better and whatnot.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
But uh, yeah, man, that's just kind of a quick rundown.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I like it a quick rundown there too. And also
you got a little bit of that, uh Morgan Wallin
kind of influence in your music that I've noticed, and
a little bit of maybe late nineties to early two thousands,
maybe mid two thousands kind of country. Give me a
little bit of that. And some of the country artists
that you kind of grew up listening.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
To, well, I mean obviously Joe Diffy, everybody listening to
Joe Diffie and Alan Jackson for sure, you know, especially
being from Georgia and everything. You know, he's he's the
goat in country in my opinion. But uh, those are
probably my my my favorite country artists as far as
like old country. But also, like I said, man, my

(05:16):
my music's also a whole lot more rock and I
hate to say it, but not really pop driven but
almost melody wise. It's just a little bit on the
poppy side. But you know that's inevitable why I come
up and I come up in the you know, the
the generation where we have Apple Music and Spotify and
we have all this music at our fingertips.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
So for me to just be country, it.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Would you know, that would almost be a lie, really,
because I got so much stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I bet so, no doubt too. Like I said, we're
gonna talk about this single too, We're gonna play one
of the first ones that it's exclusive here from Will
Terry on the backstage past KYB in ninety eight point one,
your Big Area Broadcasting Network and again the Sports Guys
podcast dot com out there too, and iHeart Radio podcast
and this one is always Finn. We get exclusive here
on the show, two songs that have not even been
released yet at least I tried here. It is from

(06:09):
Will Terry on the backstage pass coming right back, stay tuned.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
I've been sitting even handsome waste saying sends homes and
bad me.

Speaker 7 (06:40):
Look too long time, and.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
Then it singing line you're out there with you and
to my home, and it leave me nothing at least
outside to get you back to me.

Speaker 7 (06:56):
Work for.

Speaker 6 (06:59):
Laughing chase some white lines the way the wisket for.

Speaker 7 (07:05):

it's all I can find. At least at least try try.
And we turned the.

Speaker 6 (07:25):

don't big cook no more. There's pills and minos on
kids food. Don't ask the hotel about.

Speaker 7 (07:35):
To need some more for that pig. Me for you
to let me down, to lie past, back out on
the living room cash. At least I tried to get
you back to the way it was before. Live on

(07:56):
the roof, chase.

Speaker 6 (07:57):
Some white lines in the way the whiskey poll trade
in a library, it's happening to me insane least like fast,
but at least a hide at least outside, like sell

(08:29):

Speaker 7 (08:35):
Kid myself, win to know you're just a long free.
At least I tried to get you back. Should wait work.

Speaker 6 (08:47):
Before lying on the road chasing wild lives in the
way of whiskey poll.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
Trade in the library, it's happening to be in but
at least truth.

Speaker 8 (09:25):

B Construction Services, Barna Mediam's Custom Homes, commercial Remodels, steal
buildings to live out of Sealy, Texas and based out
of there too as well, and they'll travel done correct
and with respect. Give Brenna call seven one, three eight
nine zero twenty five fifty one out there. Tell them

(10:32):
you heard about it here on the Backstage Pass powered
by the Sports Guys Podcast dot com. First, I had
to tell you back here with Will Terry on the program.
Thanks for lett us play some songs and haven't even
been released, and we've been known to do that here
on the program. So this one here, at least I tried.
But all your music you mentioned it doesn't just have
that country sound. It's got a little bit of everything.
Tell us about this one.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
So actually, this this song, it's you know, nobody's heard
it yet, but it's actually a pretty old one.

Speaker 9 (10:57):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
I wrote this before I moved to Nashville.

Speaker 9 (10:59):
I was.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I was fresh out of high school when I wrote
the song. And man, it's just it's one of those
songs where you know, I couldn't get it right. I
tried to and I couldn't help with the other person
didn't try. But you know, it's I don't know. It's
one of those songs where where you know you're young
and you do things that you shouldn't but you try

(11:21):
not to, but it's still around there.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
You know you're still gonna do it. But hell, at
least I tried.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
See the sentiment right there, at least you did try.
No doubt about it too. Gave it the good old
they say. Al Sharpton sometimes too here on the program.
Blame it on the bar. We came out last August.
Let's dive into this one too, because I really that
was the one that turned me on to you two
learning about new talent here on the program. Loved this
one too, and just the statement behind it, because you're right,
we go out there, we drink, we don't remember a

(11:50):
lot of things. Yeah, it is the bar's fault too.
We also take some responsibility too, but hey, we're at
the bar, we're drinking, We're having a good time. Man.
This had a good, up tempo feel to it.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
Yeah, Mann that that song. Actually I didn't write that song.
So my producer at the time, his wife, Madison Parks,
she wrote that song. She's an amazing artist too, but
uh yeah her she wrote that song and they showed
it to me and I was like, dang, man this
you know, I mean, I didn't write it, but it

(12:21):
definitely fits how I'm feeling, you know. I mean sometimes
you just got to blame it on the bar, you know.
I mean, there's there's just a different kind of feeling,
you know, when the alcohol is hidden and the neons hidden.
It's just it's right there on.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
I love it too, that's the beauty about it. You
also had one out there too that was released last
year to Smoke. Tell us all about this one.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
So smoke is, uh, well, I really wanted an F
two fifty really bad and I still do.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Still ain't got one, but uh, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
I was just like, you know, maybe if I wrote
a song about a diesel, I could get one, And
so I just I came up with that you know,
lift and all she's sing with smoke.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
You know, yeah, that's it again writing for real life
experience too. Hey, tell me about songwriting and your process
of getting into it as far as some people say
they can create, you know, against something from nothing, but
looking back at it, some people say, you know, it's
kind of the fantasy type stuff. Or now some people say,
you know, we have to kind of go through the
experience to be able to put it on paper. They
use voice memo on their phone, they have a hook,

(13:22):
they write it down. Where do you kind of draw
that experience from in songwriting?

Speaker 3 (13:26):
So songwriting is a little bit different.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
Uh you can kind of make a song say one
thing and make it mean another. So for instance, like
at least I tried, you know, I wasn't really in
a relationship at the time, but I know that like
if I were to be then it would not have
worked out. But hey, at least I tried, you know,

(13:50):
And that that's kind of the way I'm feeling, like
I want to get to where I can, but I'm trying,
you know, but I just I can't. So there's that,
you know, writing to a of not really meaning exactly
what the song means. Maybe it's just a feeling that
you have within the song. But when it comes to

(14:10):
writing it, I have this thing where I like to well,
a bunch of people do that. It's not just me,
but I like to take one word and make it
mean another. And I like to take one statement and
make it mean another. And just I like finding clever
things and also a melody. You gotta have a great melody, got.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
To but yeah, just clever things.

Speaker 9 (14:34):
You know.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
One liners. I'm big on one liners. I love them,
but uh uh yeah, just you know, keep it witty.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
I feel like, keep people on their toes. I like
that too, And like I said, the song will resonate
with a lot of good fans out there too. I
saw your hat to and I've seen a lot of
the progress here. One of the biggest events in Nashville too.
One of my favorite guys works for Nashville Universe. But
they also have another event called Whiskey Jam. You've got
a chance to participate in that. And I've seen the
Marquis sign out there too with your name on it.

(15:02):
Things like that. Always a fun event. I've got to
get there one year to do this whole radio show
from Whiskey Jam. So many great contacts people you meet,
and man, there's so much talent taking place at Whiskey Jam.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Right, yes, sir, yes, sir, there's there's talent flowing all
throughout it. Man, it's good.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Anybody you've met that kind of was you didn't know
about you kind of discovered through Whiskey Jam.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
Well, I you know, Ward would only really let me
in Whiskey Jam when I was playing, or if I
had a buddy playing, So I really didn't get to
go as much as I would have liked to because
I wasn't twenty one up until about three weeks ago,
and I really ain't been to the bar since. But yeah,
but I mean so, actually, how I got into Whiskey

(15:46):
Jam and met Ward was my buddy Chase Baker was
having his little round or whatever. And it was that
night that I met pretty much all my buddies that
I still hang out with to this day. And so yeah, yeah,
I'm had a pretty getting over people in there with
amazing talent man very much.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
So, like I said, one of the biggest events in Nashville.
It happens more than once a year or two. I
love it now. It's actually expanding out. War does a
great job with the event. Time for some more music
here the backstage pass again Will Terry here. Make sure
you guys connect with him on social media. Will Terry

all those great custom homes and commercial remodels, steel buildings, guys,
bar do Dominiums are becoming actually the thing now too.
It's crazy how many people live in those based out
of Sealy, Texas. They will travel out there. Give Brent
a call seven one, three, eight nine zero twenty five
fifty one out there too. It's done correct and with respect.
B and B Construction Service and also the Caaden Gordon

(21:01):
Show dot com Today's best Country mix back here with
Will Terry on the show. Uh, this one pretty much
summed it up looking back at it, still hating me.
Let's talk about this one.

Speaker 5 (21:13):
Yeah, man, this is this is another one of those
songs that I wrote right after high school. I hate
to call her a break up because it was more
of like a situationship, but ended up getting my heart
broke pretty bad. So yeah, you know, I don't know
what hurts worst. You know, me still loving you, you
still hating me. It's just that's exactly how I felt

(21:36):
at the time. You know, probably what it's supposed to,
but that's how I felt.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Hey, you know you're very young at this two. You
mentioned just turning twenty one two excitement and like I said,
a huge man. The future ahead of you too, because
you write a great song. Nashville's filled with a lot
of great songwriters out there. I'd love to say here
on the show that if it worked for the songwriters,
it wouldn't be the artist, No doubt about it too.
Looking back at it to it, and I think that
that's so key to a point when you get up
there on stage, take me through what goes through your

(22:04):
mind as far as performing in front of a crowd.
What do you enjoy most about that?

Speaker 5 (22:09):
Well, that's it's funny you say going through my mind,
because that's the thing, Like, nothing's going through my mind
whenever I'm up on stage, Like I just I feel,
I feel the music and I just sang the words,
and what happens when I'm on stage happens. Yeah, I
don't know how to explain it, Like it's not really
a blackout because I remember everything, but it's just almost

(22:30):
like the energy of the room just takes over and
you just you just try to throw on the best
show you can.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
And it's it's kind of weird too because I could
be like I could.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
Have a stuff he knows or you know, my throw
it could be hurting and as soon as all the
adrenaline hits.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
On the dime.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Let's talk a little bit about this one before you,
which last March. This came out across all the streaming
platforms and a little bit of writing behind this one too,
And I got a chance we do our homework here
on the show. I told you about that, which is
always good out there too. But I can chance to
check out a lot of the singles, including what we
played here on the show. But this one had a
good a good feel for it too and kind of
felt like that relationship kind of vibe too, right, Yes, sir,

(23:14):
tell us about this one.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
So before you, it's pretty much saying, like, you know,
before you ran off and did all of this, I
was a shithead and now I'm a change man coming
before you, you know, like, come on, take me back,
But at this point, don't take me back.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Let me run free.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
We run free, spread my wings and fly a little
bit too out there. A lot of cool things coming up,
I tell you right now, man, this female class, and
I'll say even guys too. But man, lady's starting to
get played on country radio. Like I said, more power
to them, Girl Power Interview a lot of the great
ladies here on the program, probably more than I do
the guys here. When it comes to solo artists and

(24:01):
groups looking back, so much talent is saturated with it
too now in the industry. Give me some of your
take on this female category. From Megan Maroney to Landy
Wilson to Ashley McBride, Carly Pearson, Hannah Ellis and Ashley Cook.
I mean, thoughts on this class of females and country music.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Oh man, if I'm driving in my truck and like,
so what I do is I go on drives, you know,
just to clear my head.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
If I'm driving down the road two o'clock in the morning,
you can bet your ass. Lanney Wilson's on it, on it.

Speaker 9 (24:31):
She is.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Every song of hers like Dirty looks amazing.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
Granted I'm probably not supposed to feel that song, but
there's just something about the song.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
It just it hits right. And I don't know. Megan
Maroney's got some great stuff coming out.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
Actually before she before she blew up and became the
mega maroone and she is now. About two weeks before
I graduated high school, I opened for her in Rome,
so that's that's when I met her. And then it
was like six months later she was massive and I
was like, damn, that's crazy. But yeah, her el Langley

(25:11):
killing it. I love l Langley. She's awesome. But also
one that one that doesn't get as much credit as
she should. Ashlyn Kraft. Her voice is amazing, man, amazing.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
She got a great one out just had her on
the show there a couple of weeks ago, Dive Bar
Beauty Queen. If you've not heard that record now she
just put out fantastic and now she's on the Luke
Brian tour. Okay, yeah, from up and Play. They were
supposed to play the Kate and Lafayette last weekend. I
believe it was show got canceled because I think Luke
was sick. Luke Brian was so now they're going to reschedule,
but coming through this area too. She's only Luke Brian

(25:45):
Tour opening for him to and Dive Bar Beauty Queen.
It is one of my favorite records out there. Just
talked to Ashton if you missed the show again the
Sports Guys podcast UH dot com. So looking ahead for
you obviously this music we got to play here that's
not released, but over the coming months now as we
get rid for the third quarter of this year, fourth
quarter and then kind of finish it out. What are
you most looking forward to? Give me some goals.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
Well, we have a song coming out in July. It
should be towards the end of July. I'm not We
ain't set out on a date yet, so I'm not
too sure, but we got that happening. And man, right now,
my main focus is the songs. It all starts with
the songs. Can't go play a good set, that's good songs.
So that's uh, that's my main focus right now, getting

(26:28):
in the rooms, trying to trying to meet as many
people as I can, you know, just as many people
as possible.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
That's that's that's pretty much my plan right now.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Shake Hans and network in this business. That's what it's
all about, no doubt, and get your music out to
as many fans as possible. All Right. You mentioned rom Georgia,
so I gotta I love I love this because back
to the nineties it was Braves Astros, big rivalry down
Major League Baseball. So uh, just I really appreciated what
the Atlanta Braves stood for the nineties with all those

(26:58):
division titles, and I know it was just one World
Series championship, but they lived up to the building up
that got there. They had their time the Astros eight
out of nine years now or somewhere in there, and
had seventh straight American League Championship Series appearances and remind
me a lot of the Braves now too. I know
the Braves aren't having a great season, but for you
growing up, it had to be shopp all the way, right,

(27:19):
Atlanta Braves.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
Oh yeah for sure.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
I mean I've always played baseball my whole life, but
uh yeah, for sure, especially especially the Braves.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
But I don't know, we've been more of a football
house really, and I mean Falcons. No, No, we didn't
really watch it NFL. No, we watched football, all right,
I was, I still am. I'm an Alabama fan, right, yeah,
we're so Rome.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
If you don't know where that is, it's like thirty
minutes from the Alabama line, so we're right there at it.
But oh yeah, that's that's That's pretty much what I
grew up watch football.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
I remember the days of A J. Mcaerre and Eddie
Lazy and Julio Jones and just killing it.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
That's roll tiede, no doubt about it. You actually have
a niece going to UH University of Alabama right now
to doing very well for her her grade. At the
same time. Yeah, great university and a role tide when
it comes to UH football. Always one of those favorite
favorite rivalries is the Iron Bowl when they play offered right.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I'm trying to go to
the Iron Bowl this year. I can't remember if they're
playing a Tuscaloose or all there.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
It might be Tescalusia this year. I'm coming up. This
money could be Tuescalusive. All right. So, getting a little
free time and you're not doing music or you're not
writing songs, what else do you like to do out
there for fun?

Speaker 5 (28:41):
Well, mainly fish and hunt, but hell it's too hot
and it was too hot fish and I can't really
hunt legally right now.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
So but no, I'm just.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Kidding, uh man. In my free time, I'm hanging out
with my buddies.

Speaker 5 (28:58):
I just got a tragger, so I've been smoking some
meat and uh drinking cold beer legally now legally, yeah, legally, I.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Love it draggers that you can't go wrong with that too.
So let me ask you this. It was you mentioned
it was music or nothing else. But let's say we
play hypothetical here. Do you not taking this path with
a guitar in your hand and become a musician? Was
there another backup occupation that you would have considered?

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Well, my my Paumpaul runs a uh well, he used
to running.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
My uncle runs it now it's a it's a tree business,
so they go man and take out trees or well,
it's really a hardscate business, la saw it and stuff.
So if I wasn't done this, I'd probably digging ditches somewhere.
I'd much imagine, Hey, man, work is work. I know
you're glad you picked up the guitar and never looked
back at that. Favorite foods Nashville, never a shortage of
food on every corner there. I went to several different restaurants.

(29:50):
Where do you like to kind of dine out when
you when you go? Of course, I know you mentioned
you live there now, But I went to three or
four places new places I like to try.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Where do you like to eat out?

Speaker 5 (29:58):
So, as far as like dinners go, I don't really
eat much fancy dinners.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
I'd rather cook at the house.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
But if I'm going to eat somewhere, Ophelia's it's a
pretty good like Italian place.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Let's see here. Honestly, I hit up the Long Horns
a lot and I'll get some I'll.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Get some grilled chicken in uh, in broccoli huh and
uh I get that. But yeah, as far as eating out, man,
I don't really do all that. I just I'd rather
cook a burger or steak at home.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
You know, I got you, hey, Like I said, more
more power, self aware.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
Man.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
He likes the smoked meat down there to burger and good.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Tied things too expensive these days, it is, like.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
I said, in the cost of groceries going up to
At the same time, I love that too. At the
same time, Uh desserts, sweet tooth? Uh do you like?

Speaker 9 (30:47):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Ice cream shakes? Things like that? When do you get
into sweet tooth? They're not so much.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
I've never really liked sweets all that much as far
as like candy goes. But every now and then I'll
have a resis and I like carrot cake. Carrot cake
is good, all right.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
I like that too when it comes down to it,
all right for me. I still get into it every
now and then when a buddy of mine comes over
and we get a chance to barbecue smoke those meats
here at the house. But I love getting into like WWE,
which used to be WWF growing up too, wrestling orre
you a wrestling fan at all?

Speaker 5 (31:17):
Man?

Speaker 3 (31:17):
I never really got into it.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
I mean stunt staypools that you know that it's some
cool stuff, But I you know, that's just not really
one of those things I watched that much.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
It's it's still fun. I got my daughter into it now,
she's now five, and something about saying the names of
the wrestlers like she can do that now. So it's
just amazing how much little kids can really get into
stuff like that.

Speaker 9 (31:37):
You know.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah, I might have to dive off in it one day.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
