W Mooe and the Moula Broadcasting That probably was that.
The Big Mo Podcast. The Big Mo Podcast is brought
to you by Parma, twenty four, Crassmen Electric and Revey
Landscaping and now your hosts Andy Nagel and Big Mo Barrett. Andy,
you want to talk about the Cincinnati Ridge. I don't
I want it, Man, Just a couple of days ago,
(00:23):
I remember saying to myself, Man, they're cooking, they're cooking.
And then eighteen to two and a doubleheader loss.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Now they were playing the four and twenty two Colorado Rockies.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
How about the rock How would you like to be
a Rockies fan? You were wins all year long.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
You were out there at the game on Saturday and
it looked like they had a decent How did they
get a decent crew?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
I don't know. They they outdrew with the four and
twenty two record, outdraw the Reds.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
It's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Yeah, I it's an indictment on the Red Nation. The
Reds have not got the fans to respond. I don't
know if it's just the year after year people were
just like it's April. We know that the hammer is
going to fall here in a couple of months. I
don't know what it is, but say Drew now, it
was seventy six degrees high, high skies. Beautiful day by
(01:13):
several people I talked to that live out there said
it's the most beautiful day we've had in Colorado and months,
so that might have had something.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I wanted to get out of the house.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
They wanted to get out of house. But it was
it was a little disappointing at the reds don't draw
more and I listen coming from a guy I've been
to four or five games, so I've I've stepped up some.
You all out all the other REDSVAM trying to talk
you in the heading down today for the afternoon Mattinee,
but a little delayed. We were on a Thursday this
(01:40):
week because you were a little busy yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Spring Day giving talk about that. It was awesome. Thank
you for your help and our team. We were able
to raise I think it's running now at thirty three
eight hundred dollars. It's amazing to tuition assists. We had fun.
We Bart and I did video live live videos on
the hour. We had some giveaways and we had some
(02:05):
great guests. Jason neahouse and you know, thank thank these guests, Jason,
Diane Hakker in the bookstore, Burt Pathy, Andy the had
football coach. We had a really good, uh, sit down
and plea from Moller alum and current associate basketball assistant
basketball coach Mike Susley from the class of seventy five.
(02:26):
He was awesome. He was really good. He was he
was great man. And it was good to get that
alumni perspective on camera kind of given the why you
should support and donate to Moulor High School. So that
was awesome, UH. And it was a fun day and
we raised some money. We had Andy Simon up here,
the alumni board president. He made a plea to his
(02:49):
ninety four class. I don't have all the results in yet.
We're gonna announce him tomorrow Friday at twelve pm. Of that,
the class competition last week checked the class of seventy
three in first. In the class of ninety four was
in second. So we'll have to see how all that
shakes out. But just a great day. Was the first
time we did it this year. We had Scott Paplo
(03:10):
on there. Don't want to discount him, and we got
a live version from the band room, which was really cool.
So we showcased our campus along with those special guests
telling that why but you know, the Giving Tuesday is
that designated day throughout the country in the winter. It
(03:31):
was December third this past year, and the Spring Day
Giving is kind of a newer concept that a lot
of schools and universities are going to have a day
in the spring. So we jumped on board. We threw
a day and it was awesome.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
It was awesome, very cool. We also are going to
officially break today officially the official news that the Cincinnati
Reads Nasty Boys. We'll be visiting more High School on
September twenty fifth, twenty twenty five, this calendar year. The
Nasty Boys are coming to Cincinnati and Moeller High School
(04:06):
and Andy, I know, congratulations both of us did. We
both did so we you know the Nasty Boys in
nineteen ninety and all the memories that you have of them,
I'm sure come right to the forefront of your mind, right.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, that was a made it to the World Series
Game one when Eric Davis hit that home run off
Dave Stewart and you just knew as a Reds fan, man,
this is our this is our series.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
They had no business winning now, arguably even a game
in that they had the Bash Brothers with the Oakland
A's and by the thincond, I think that's the last
time the Oaklands won game was back in the nineties series.
They're not very good either, but just so much fun,
so many memories.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Tickets are on sale now.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Where can people go to get them?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
As we speak? You can go to the Moller dot
org and we actually have three events. We have Bourbon
and Cigars on Friday, June sixth, we have the golf
outing on Friday June twenty seventh, and the Stag on
September twenty fifth. You can buy them individually or if
you buy a package between now and June first, we're
(05:14):
going to knock off one hundred bucks off a retail price,
so that can get you a ticket for all three.
Guarantee is seated all three and what a great time.
But tickets are on sale. We'll put it in the
comments or in the post here when we post this podcast,
the tickets to the Stag.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Think about relief pictures, you don't actually just the opposite.
You don't think about it much like obviously brent Souter
being a man of Muler. We know him, but relief
pictures should buy and large be fairly anonymous. If they're
doing their jobs, they don't often come with a lot
of swag. And other than Alexis Diz, that's all. That's
(05:55):
a whole other conversation. But he was demoted to trip
away and hopefully them there double a then sing away
and then he can join me in the alumni office
with Andy Nagel after that. But I hope he never
sees the big leagues again. Nothing personal. It's just bad.
It's just terrible. But you shouldn't know the relief pitchers.
But when you have three guys like the Nasty Boys,
(06:17):
who each had their you know, individually, had their own swag,
their own bravado about them, it made them special. And
that's why when you say nasty boys, all throughout Major
League Baseball, everybody knows exactly what you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, and they were you didn't know what you were
gonna get. They could be a little unhinged at times,
all three of them. I still remember the collision with
Norm Charlton and Mike Soosha at the plate as a
bass runner. Norm Charlton and you know, the antics of
Debbil obviously, and Randy Myers was just kind of that
(06:52):
quiet assassin. But uh, we talket, We've talked about it.
You know, you had to get to the Reds by
the fifth inning or else.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
No doubt that was the best part about it. I mean,
your picture. Your pitcher didn't have to have a game
where he goes deep into the game and you get
the fifth innings.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Ball game, and you had some really good starting picture.
You had Jose Rio and Danny Jackson.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
I think Jack Armstrong Jack, Yeah, you had some Armstrong.
He struggled in the second half of the ninety season,
but he was lights out that first half season.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
So you know, they talk about pitching wins championships and
bye gosh, it did in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
For sure. There are many polarizing stories about guys like
Rob Dibble you mentioned, and certainly you think about a
guy that one of my good friends, George Vogel, who
we talked about a little bit on the podcast last week.
George Vogel was was inside the locker room. Uh for
this this particular incident, I don't think I might have
(07:51):
to take up We're gonna take a break in the accent.
Maybe when we come back, we can get George on
the George Orre He's there now, George Lonesome George Vogel
on the w m Oe Big Mo Podcast. George, it's
been a while since I've talked to you. First and foremost,
How you doing so good? Man?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Just run around my hey, But that's all right, that's
every day now.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
You retired like twenty five thirty years ago, didn't you.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Sometimes it feels like it. But it's been two years,
that's it.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Two years. It seems like a long and a lot. Ye, well, George,
I I kind of do you miss it at all? Uh?
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Sometimes you know what, I'm running around like I am today.
I miss it. Work would be calm compared to retirement.
Sometimes when you've got grandkids, nephews, wives, Uh fitzer.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
George, I mean wives. You got, George, Well.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Well legally one, but I.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Haven't asked, so, I mean, well, George, I kind of
teased this last that's a fact. That's a fact I
teased this last week. We announced officially this week, but
we teased it last week about the Nasty Boys coming
to Cincinnati and kind of told everybody and I used
(09:17):
to work together work might be putting it kindly. We
used to partake in some after work at salmonies back
in the day and I got to know each other
really well. But in those in those conversations that we'd
have bellying up to the bar was one of my
favorite stories you have. And I tried to articulate it,
(09:37):
but not as well as you. The incident inside uh
the what I guess at the time with Synergy Field
maybe or Riverfront Stadium whatever that was called back when
when this happened between Rob Dibble and Lou Panela, Can
you kind of walk us through the events of that
and what led up to that and your story. This
(09:57):
is Hall of Fame type storytelling right here.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
It was crazy. So we had a actually, uh, we
had a Moler grad working with this former major league player, Lemmatusic.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
That's right. I didn't know, Yeah he was.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
He was down there and it was after the game,
and I guess during the game Lou had asked Dibble
to warm up and the response he got back was
he couldn't go that night, basically something along those lines.
So then after the game, Lou is asked by the reporters,
you know, what was going on and why didn't you
(10:39):
bring in Bibbs and blah blah blah, and Lou's like, well,
he couldn't go tonight. And so they go to Divil's
walker and he's there, go, hey, well is every ding okay?
You know, are you physically fine? He's like yeah, why
It's like, well, Lou said you weren't able to go tonight.
He's like, I didn't say that. And so they go
(11:02):
back in the loose office and say, hey, Lou dis
and said, you know, he didn't say that, and you
didn't ask him the warm up? Well I didn't. Lou
immediately blows the stack and goes in there looking for blood.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Where were you at this point and when all this
was transpiring were you?
Speaker 3 (11:21):
I was back at the station. I was back at
the station. However, Kent, weaver or photographer was rolling the
whole time. He had all this. He had the he
had you know, when Lou and and Dibbs engaged and
rolling on the ground and screaming each other and you
don't know how to be a man, and all this
(11:42):
stuff was being said, and then uh, and then Kent
keeps the video rolling and then they show him out
of there. You know, finally somebody has the sense to
close the locker room and get the media the heck
out of there, and and he's walking out, one of
the coaches asked if, like, you don't have film in
that camera, do you. Kid's like, no, no film. And
(12:08):
then as he walked out, and the coach couldn't hear me,
he's like, but I do have videotape.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Now have you seen the Have you seen that from
start to finish? Yeah? Yeah? What was your what was
your opinion when that all went down?
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Oh, we were done. First of all, they get back
from the stadium and we had heard something that happened,
but we didn't know to what degree, and so there
was a big and then the reds are calling us,
do not air this, Do not air this, And at
the time, we were still airing the Red skate, so
we were seen as a you know, kind of a
(12:46):
media partner. You know, the locker room was open, and
it's like, everyone's going to be talking about this. It's
not like something we're going to make go away, right,
So the decision, you know, wasn't a hard one to make.
We had to air it. It was it was during
(13:08):
the open locker room period. And you know, those guys
got heated and and you know, it was a big,
big deal at the time and now now everyone including
the participants, pretty much laugh about it. It's just one
of the things that happened.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
And wasn't Dream Weaver ever allowed back in the beg.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Oh yeah, it was really, I mean it was. It
was a crazy night. It was one of the crazier
nights in the business where you know, the Reds are
putting the heat on us. And then we aired it.
And you know Greg Horde, who was unfortunately recently passed away,
(13:53):
and God rest his soul, he was a good one
and a good journalist. You know, he immediately he's like,
we got air in that. You know, we can't sit
on that.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
You're right, how uncomfortable was it for you to go?
I mean all seriousness, I'm thinking. And I had to
go back down there the next day to cut the
next ball the next night, to cover them. How how
difficult was that I did?
Speaker 3 (14:18):
It was tough. I mean, we we were not you know,
welcome with open arm. But it didn't last long, and
you know, the players understood quite honestly, some of the
players were already laughing the next day.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Just yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
But yeah, it was Frosty, there's no doubt about that.
And it was uh I'm sure our GM was involved.
I can't remember exactly, but I'm sure there were a
lot of talks and uh, fortunately w l WT did
stick to their guns. It's like, no, that was the
right call and and that's what we're supposed to do.
And you know, we're supposed to tell the stories that
(14:59):
are happening, and that definitely happened because here it is
on vidego.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Hey, George Andy Nagle here quick question, So in the schedule,
when when did this incident? Obviously that that you know
that we're going to celebrate the thirty fifth anniversary of
that ninety championship season. When did this happen in the season?
And then how did How was the relationship at least
from your eyes, between Lou and Dibble, how did they
(15:26):
handle each other throughout the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
I think they went back to, uh, we got to
win ball games, and we've got to uh, you know,
do what's best for the team and put it behind us,
and you know, lose the kind of guy that he
can get in a fight and two minutes later he's
having a beer with the guy, right, he it's nothing
new to him. I mean, that's just Lou. He just
(15:53):
grew up. You know, there would be you know, Franks
was breaking out. It was nothing unusual for him.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Don't you think? Don't you think that was what was
special about that ninety team though, George, is that these
guys they were like grows.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
And and and the competitiveness too. And if you look,
you look at a nasty boy, and you are not
going to find three more competitive people. Now that there
may be some as competitive, but that's what was that,
That's what made that work. To these guys, every one
of them were were top notch competitors, you know, Norm, Rob, Brandy,
(16:32):
all three of them. And they were top notch closers.
They were slammed the door type guys. And Lou had
three of them, so and Lou used them to perfection.
And yeah, they were able to get past that. And
I think, you know down the road it was. Were
they quite as chummy? Maybe not? But I don't know.
My guess is and Rob will be able to tell
(16:54):
you they probably they probably laugh about it.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Now you had a front row seat for that whole
ninety What a blessing looking back on your career and
all all the remarkable things you've done. That has to
be near the top is following that nineteen ninetyeen defeeding
an Oakland A's team that they, according to all the
talking heads, had no business even being in the same ballpark,
going out there and beating them in Oakland and winning
(17:18):
that that world championship, and you had a front row seat.
Pretty cool, Huh.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
It was great, it was. And the you know, it
spoiled me a little bit because you know, I'm like
three years in reporting or whatever, and you go to
a World Series and it's the sweet and you know,
the town's going crazy, and it's like, ah, great, this
will be happening all the time. Well here we are
in twenty twenty five and it hadn't happened then. So
(17:46):
it was so special. I was lucky as all get out,
there's no doubt about it. And and those were great guys,
I mean, we had some There were just some really
cool people on that team that made it even more special.
I mean it was easy, easy, easy to cover them
and kind of enjoy the moment with them because there
(18:07):
were just so many likable guys on that team and
great competitors. I mean it was you know when Eric
Davis hit that home run in Game one of that
World Series and we're all looking at these and you know,
Dave Stewart's on the mount. They had a phenomenal season
and was basically untouchable, and then Ede takes him deep
the right center and everyone's looking at each other like,
(18:29):
holy crap, they can play this game with these boys.
And that was kind of a first punch the Reds delivered,
and I'm not sure the A's ever recovered.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
You could almost feel the mojo building in that NLDS
or NLCS when they were playing The Pirates, and you
could feel that mojo in that series and certainly thought, man,
these guys got a puncher's chance in this World Series
against Oakland George. The event is September twenty fifth. Is
there even a small remote chance that loesome George Vogel
(19:01):
will make his way from the west side of since
unless you've moved the west side of Cincinnati over Ronald
Reagan Highway, get off at Montgomery Road, take a sharp write,
and you'll be at paradise at Mueller High School. Is
it possible that lonesome George Vogel.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Very possible. I've not looked that far ahead. I'm still
trying to get the five o'clock tonight, aren't we all?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Brother?
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Yeah, well George, yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Five o'clock. I'll let you know how my life's going.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
George, you're the best man. I miss you, and thank
you for calling in and just kind of sharing some
of those memories of the Nasty Boys. We're excited to
have him and certainly appreciate you giving us some time
and what appears to be a very busy day.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yes, but it's fun. It's enjoyable. Heading to State the grandkids.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Now, I can't believe you're that old half grandkids, George,
to me, you're still that young guy working in the
sports department.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Well I did get started early.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
They help.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
There you go. That's George Vogel. George Tanks a lot
for joining us on the b MP the Big Mo Podcast.
Don't be a stranger. We'll get you back on again soon.
All right, A lot. That's George Vogel, the former sports
director at w l w T. And what a great
guy man. He was so much fun to work with.
I can imagine that as an encyclopedia of Cincinnati sports
(20:27):
history in that But a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Andy, you talk about, you know, thirty five years ago,
you and and and George, you guys are young pups.
I'm sure there was a there's some late late hours spent. Uh.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
We'd get off at the Loansome eleven o'clock. We'd get
off and we had the old salamon. Yeah, those were
the days. And you get all the photogs and and
and the guys, and we had we had a good time.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
And the good thing was before cell phone, so you
couldn't get you actually had to talk to you know. Yeah,
and but nobody's taken your picture in a suspect compromising position,
so to speak.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Nobody wanted my pigure. I was just a newsroom guy
back then. But George Vogel certainly had had to dable
into that. Andy. Uh again, how can people get tickets again?
Two sports AC sports AC.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Just click on the link that we're going to provide

a little maze and Blue Michigan Football. Jordan Marshall is
in the house, the freshman phenom who should be RB

and his football camp coming up on May seventeenth. When

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Back in a Big Move podcast, and we have a
celebrity guest in studio, Eddie Navels kidding Jordan Marshall in studio.
I got the Michigan Fight song rolling here, Jordan.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
You have.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
But you're back on campus for May. You're so immersed
up there to what's going on day to day, working out, school,
everything else going on, you gotta enjoy. Just take a
just take it up wreck getting your head of boke
of water now right.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
I would just say it's just refreshing to be back,
see familiar faces, drive around, know where everything is. I'm
not used to driving twenty minutes to go get stuff.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
So what's the grind like up there at up at
Michigan every day? Because I don't I don't think people
fully understand the academic rigor alone at a place like
Michigan is just challenging. Then you throw football, the actual
game of football into it. Oh and by the way,
(24:03):
then there's pr appearances and all these other things you
have to do. I'm not gonna feel that sorry for you,
because there's a thing called nil now, but I do
I am a little bit understanding of how much pressure
that can put on somebody your age.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
I would just say, just for example, last week ended springball,
we went into lifting and I had a final for
exam or study for exams, and then I also had
I had to do a shoot with NBC. I had
to do something some media stuff for just our team stuff.
(24:40):
And it's just that balancing act of getting all those
things done and being prepared for class, being prepared to
go to workout at six am, and then again you
talked about being back here. This place started it all,
and right when I walked in, somebody asked me what
(25:01):
is the best, like how how was the transition? And
I would say, my time management is above everybody else
is on in the freshman class, there's only a few
people me who went here, Ted who went to Saint
next and Ben who went to Saint Edwards. And I
mean that says something about the Catholic school.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
But you didn't appreciate it when you were here there,
did you?
Speaker 5 (25:23):
I would say, maybe you did, but what you did
not that I do now, and to be able to
go and go in there and be able to get
my work done, and beyond everything, beyond time, beyond time
to workouts, be ten minutes early, just like we say here,
you need to be early to everything. And it just
shows you the values of Molar and that coming back,
(25:47):
just like you said, coming back home, it's.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
It's cool to be back here, and this is all
where it started. Mama Bear happy to have you him. Yeah,
we've had Who's happier you or her? I'd probably say
that's a tough one, definitely her. Probably the toughest question
I ever answered. You there.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
I mean, it's it's just good to be back and
be with her. She texted me last night like I
just feel so fool with you here. And she has
their new place and this is my first time seeing it.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
So just to be able to be Do you have
a bedroom there? Yeah? Nice, Just to be able to
be home and be around. Does she put like like
candy or something on your pillow when you come in?
She doesn't do that? Now, come on, big Amy, get
better back in the day, back in the d Yeah,
I joined your home for the pretty much the most
of May, I think, and I got you up here
(26:35):
because I want to talk about your football camp first
and foremost. I think it's awesome that even early in
your college football career, you've made it a priority to
give back. And when we talked about it, because we
you know, we talk about you know, do we charge kids,
and then it goes to, you know, create a hopefully
eventually we're going to create a Jordan Marshall Scholarship here
at Mueller, which is gonna be very cool. You said, no,
(26:57):
I want to I want to give back to the kids.
I want to do this free of charge. That's cool.
How excited are you about the inaugural Jordan Marshall Football
camp coming up on May seventeenth, which is sold out.
It's free, but we've reached the capacity. How excited are you?
I'm actually really excited just to be able to host
it here.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
Just what I said where I started everything and I
went up there and rubbed my feet on that grass
or on the turf, and just to have all these
kids in make sure that they have a good day
is something that I'm excited about. And to give back
to my community is one of the most important things
and why I have the platform I have is to
(27:40):
help engage the community and help.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Grow this community. What's satisfying for me is I remember
at the end of your freshman year. You probably remember this.
I know that for a fact. You don't remember when
I text you five minutes ago. But I remember at
the end of your freshman year. I remember you saying someday,
I'm gonna make it big and I'm gonna have a
youth camp here at Bowler. You ever remember saying that?
(28:05):
And now it's coming to Fruition.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Yeah, it's it's crazy, and especially that I have again,
it's the cap number.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
We had it. It went out in like a day.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
So just to have that much love from the city,
from Cincinnati, and I know there's people from Michigan traveling down.
It's it's just gonna be a good time. And that's
what it's about, is making sure these kids have a
good experience and giving, just like we said, giving back
to this community.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
But this does not happen without our girl, Nadine. She
puts it. She's awesome, man, she puts it all together.
Explain to folks personalized Nadine. She's kind of a she's
affiliated with the Michigan football program. Yeah, I believe.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Yeah, she's doing some of my marketing stuff right now,
and I told her the camp was a big part
of what I wanted to.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Do for this year. She also runs Blake Koram's camp.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
She did, she did, Yeah, she was working with Blake
when he was with the team obviously, So just to
have her in my pocket and how she communicates and
communicates with adults and me, she knows how to connect
to both. It's it's really helpful. And again she's done
a great job putting this on. And trust me, we
have a lot more help and thanks that are needed
(29:22):
to be said, and that will be said. But it's
just exciting and just like you said about the scholarship,
like that's something big that I want to start. We
actually talked about it the other day for doing it
next year and just getting the resources and talking to
people who I need to talk to about it. But
(29:44):
that's something that I would love to do for especially
a public school kid that came here just pay pay
their way to get through here and.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Learn.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
I would say more of the blessings, the faith you
get from this place, the people, the connections I walk
in here and everybody smile, and the teachers and just
to be able to talk to them.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
It's it's a great feeling. One last thing people probably
want to know football. Let's talk a little football now.
You had your spring game last weekend. I think it
was two weekends there, I can't remember now, two weekends ago.
Kind of the dawn of the Jordan Marshall Show in
the backfield. Of course, you guys, you gots some good
competition back there. I know those are your guys. The
running game is going to be strong for the Blue,
(30:28):
the Amazing Blue this year. I think without question, what
was it like? You know, do you feel an added
pressure coming on as being the RB one dash too? Guy?
You know, where's your head mentally? And what was that
spring game like for you? The spring game was more
just us.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
We talked about it as being a celebration of all
the hard work we've put in all spring and how
much we've grown as a team. This is from what
I've saw and from what coaches saw. They said, this
is one of the best springs we've had. So just
to know that we're in a good place and I'm
leaving when our team is in a really good place,
it makes it easier as a leader and a voice
(31:08):
of the team to come home and be like, well,
I know the guys are gonna still put in work
this may. We're not gonna lose any steps. And I
would say that's the biggest thing for me and for
myself is making sure we don't take any steps behind
this man. We have a whole month off and we
can't we can't backtrack. We got to keep that upward slope.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
So just the big story after the Rely Request Bowl
was you getting the securing the MVP over one hundred
yards rushing against Alabama. It was awesome. I was down
here to watch it. But coming off the field, there
was something you said to Bryce Underwood which really kind
of made headlines to talk about that.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Yeah, I just said, we talked about it here too.
We always talk about the standard and the standards. The standard,
there's there's no We've had these shirts team over me
and it's just team on your shirt, a line in
me and realizing that Okay, it's cool, I want MVP
of this game, but that this wasn't our goal. Our
(32:07):
goal is to play for national championship and that's the standard,
and we settle for nothing less than that. I know
anybody on football, baseball, basketball, tennis, swim, any any sport here,
any sport there.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
You don't settle for less. That's the standard, is a standard.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
You walk through the hall, you walk through that hall
in the athletic wing, and you see all those people
and you know that you're playing for something bigger than
just yourself. And that's again team over me. The team
isn't just your team right now, it's this whole community.
It's the team here. It's the people that walk in
and out this building.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
So just to have that and know.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
Know that there's a bigger purpose and that you're never finished.
This is never final. There's always something you're reaching for.
And that's what I told him. I was, this isn't
our standard where we have to go win the national championship,
not just one.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
How do he respond to that? He he was the
message received. He's a lot like me.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
Uh kind of didn't say anything. Shook his head and
said bat And I can just tell from practicing with
him that he's he's going to be ready to go.
Jayden's gonna be ready to go. Whoever's in there is
going to be ready to go. And I'm just excited
to go back to work. We got lefting. When we
(33:33):
get back, Fall Camp starts up and then we'll be
right into.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Season locked in. You gotta enjoy this little breakway you
have it. Yeah, Jordan Marshall camp coming. Did any of
those guys listen to the Big MI podcast?
Speaker 3 (33:44):
No?
Speaker 1 (33:44):
Why not? I don't know.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
Thank you, Uh, Jordan marsh You can get him to
listen to it when you When they all get here
on the camp and we can do a big one.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
That's one thing when to ask you do you know?
I know Big Ugly's coming down, Big Reds, He's all
coming down to the right now.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
We have Lou Hamilton, an Ohio guy, Ben an Ohio guy, Ted,
Chase herber Street is gonna come from Sex. My boy
Blake Stewart Blake, He's he kicked.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
Rod Moore's coming down Safety he played at He is
an Ohio guy in Dayton, So Andrew from Kansas. So
we're gonna have I sent it to my whole freshman
group chat and I think we're gonna have about twenty
to twenty five year so it's gonna be a really
(34:38):
good turnout. We got some older kids helping us, we
got some adults that I love and that that have
helped me through my path as an athlete, and just
to have those mentors and that's a big thing that
I wanted was good people at my camp.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
And yeah, that's gonna be awesome. May seventeenth here at
Big mal. If you you know, if you don't have,
if you just want, if you're an alarm or something,
just want to kind of come out watch it can't
meet Jordan yourself. You're free to do that as well.
It's going to be a great day. I cannot wait. Jordan.
Thanks for We're proud of you, of course, as we
always are. Thanks for taking some time on the BMP.

Jordan Marshall. Jordan is and was and will forever be
the same every time you talk to him, down to earth, appreciative,
very humble, just a great young man and they got
a big season coming up. Where number? What number is he?
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Now?
Speaker 1 (37:04):
I always forget what number he is?
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Should be number twenty three. I told you he needs
to keep that number because of the Jumpman and Michael
Jordan and Jordan Marshall. I mean it all makes sense.
Come on, he's a market twenty four.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Here, but you're right, he's twenty three up there in
ann Arbor but I think they open up against what
New Mexico.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
New Mexico on August thirtieth. That's one of those Padristat games.
So he gets out to a good start. But you know,
you talk about a humble guy.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
He is the Lobos, aren't they The Lobos New Mexican
Lobos are.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
And he loves his school. I mean, he loves his
four years.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
He was at the baseball game last night, the Moler
baseball game, the Slubs being around, here's no doubt. If
I can just get him to return the golf clubs
that I landed him in a week, that would be fantastic. Well,
how his golf game is not good, Marty. That's probably
why he went out by himself to play. He said
he's to play with But I think he's been asked
to golf or frequently and I l people sponsors and supporters,
(38:05):
so he's probably got to work on that game just
a little bit. So what I'm trying to talk Tommy Gregory.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
I see it a Cobra eleventh.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
I can't do it. Usc Is that the game you're
talking about?
Speaker 2 (38:16):
But I can't. I got a wedding in Lawson.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
We don't have to cancel that in Young can't do that.
Then in Losoul Joe in Los Angeles, I said, Tommy,
let's uh, we'll fly out to your place in Palm
Springs and then we'll take the two and a half
hour johnt through the mountains of the Los Angeles to
the game and then we'll head home. Hope it's a
day game. Then we can drive home after the game,
(38:39):
camp out and head out. It'd be fun. I can't
get him to commit on it, though, Yeah, I'll go,
I think, so you get.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Him tickets, He's got the lodging you're in.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Wouldn't it be fun? Be a blast.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
I'm really big time jealous on that. And I'm not
even a Michigan fan, but Michigan usc out there and
so so cow in October.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Never been to LA that would be my first time.
I want Half the people I talked to you said, oh,
you'd love it. Half the people say you'll hate it.
It is on. I also want to go to Chavez Ravine.
I do want to check out a Dodgers game, so
I wonder if the Dodgers be playing then probably postseason.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
It'd be a really good time.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I have to have Tommy Gregory, pull some some skin
on that one. There you go, all right, Andy, another
guy's a fun, fun show talking to lonesome George Vogel,
h Jay Marsh as well. And we have coming Tomorrowanda
campus and we will capture the interview and post it
next week. The pride of South Bend Carson Hobbs.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Now we're talking football programs, baby.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
And Carson was the player of the game in the
spring game on the defensive side of the football. Here's
a guy who went up there with big aspirations. Originally
committed to South Carolina, dec admitted, then committed to follow
a dream at Notre Dame. Was spar sparsely seen on
the field in the fall, but he has had a
tremendous offseason to date. Got a lot of playing time
(40:11):
in that spring game and had opened up consequently a
lot of eyes and he will be getting I think
significant talking to some of the Notre Dame beat writers,
significant playing time at least in the discussion to get
significant playing time this coming fall. So excited to see
and hear how his progress has been. He'll never lack confidence.
So typical Mama Papa, no doubt, typical cornerback d back
(40:38):
in college football. You got to have a little bit
of that swag Carvalentine. With the Packers, you're not playing
if you ain't talking. No.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
But you know, with Carson though, even as a freshman,
I mean, he was on the travel roster every game,
so that that's big. They don't take all one hundred
and thirty five people on the road. You know, it
may look like that on the sideline, but you know,
and he was there for the Bowl, the bowl season,
and the championship game. He was on he was part
of that. So that right there tells me that Notre
(41:09):
Dame thinks very highly of him as a freshman last year.
And then you know, obviously he's worked hard and like
you said, he was a defensive player of the Game
for the spring game. So kudos to won Carson Ops.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
Big props also to Zach Carpenter, twenty nineteen grad who
had a camp invite extended to him by the Miami Dolphins.
That's an easy hop across the street. And of course
he was with the Miami Hurricanes. They're starting center under
cam Ward. Cam Ward I hear is trying to woo
him up in tennis in Nashville for the Titans, but
(41:44):
he did get an invite him he being Zach Carpenter
to the Miami Dolphins, so I don't know exactly the
date of that camp. Also, Austin Strickland, the twenty and
twenty grad from Moehler, is dealing with the High A
Huge Emeralds, which is a San Francisco Giant High A affiliate,
(42:04):
and Austin is got. I think he's got like a
one point five e r A and seven appearances. He's
doing really well. So shout out to my boy Austin Stricklin,
who was on the Big Mo podcast a few months ago.
So those two guys, kudos to congratulations to their early
success as well.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
You know, we really need to reach out to one
Nick Bennett. He's uh, he's he's a Mexican League.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
He's like Kenny.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
Powers right now pitching in the Mexican League. I think
he's on the same team as.
Speaker 1 (42:33):
Trevor Bauer that was Bower's old team.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
I think pick his brain and see how he's doing
south of the border, the old Lefties.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
If he's having a couple of chewy chotkas down there
in Mexico. I don't think what time is it in
Mexico right now. See if Nick Bennett answers the phone
on the watch Celebrity Hotline. I don't think he will.
He's typically a guy. You got a texta or range
of call.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
I'm sure he's still sleeping.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
I guess it would be what ten o'clock is. Pitchers
get up.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Early in STRETCHESSA and Modello's Corona's Mark does fine. Three fine,
We'll get Nick on next week's broadcast.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
I've watched some videos and he's he's doing really well.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
He's a great kid.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
He is, no doubt about it. The pride of Louisville
in Mueller High School, Andy Nangle, Do you have any
other questions for me?
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Big Derby? This week?
Speaker 1 (43:23):
You got uh lean two. I have no idea. I
can't name one Derby horse, can you?
Speaker 2 (43:31):
I can? Sandman?
Speaker 1 (43:32):
I like him.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
He's a gray. There you go, just like he's a
gray explained the gray horse. There's like five gray horses.
The color gray, color gray, color gray hasn't won it
since God.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
I just read this. So you're a Derby guy? Eight?
Are you a Derby guy?
Speaker 2 (43:50):
I like the I like the horses. I can't say that.
I don't I don't know that.
Speaker 1 (43:55):
Have you been to the Kentucky Derby at all?
Speaker 3 (43:57):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
I have not been to the Derby.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
How much is a ticket to a crowd that large?
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Doesn't really entice me unless I am sitting in reserve seats,
nice seats, parking take What do you think?
Speaker 1 (44:12):
What do you think? What do you think it costs
down to the Derby?
Speaker 2 (44:15):
Is on the secondary market or yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
You have no idea.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
I don't how much.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
I have no idea. I'm trying to look it up
on them I can. I don't see anything here. I
would imagine it's probably is it as much as much
as a super Bowl ticket?
Speaker 2 (44:31):
I mean you have millionaire's row, you have everybody and
anybody that comes out to that, and then they all
go to the Mister Ruby Steakhouse after the race and
celebrate there in a private party.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
Hopefully they get some nice weather. It's not fun to
watch the Kentucky Derby. You got the roses run for
the roses, you got the sunshine, but it gets a
little muddy down there, slipping different.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
You got the oaks on Friday. For all the Phillies,
it's like their Kentucky Derby for the Phillies and then
the big race.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
I'm impressed the horse aficionado. I like that. I'm pressed
all right for Andy Nagel. Big Mo Bear in another
great rendition to the Big Mo podcast on w MOE
and the more broadcasting network how Big Mo
