Speaker 1 (00:03):
Wanting family. Good morning, God bless you. Welcome back to
the Morning Devo. Is your brother Sam Lopez akadj Sam Rock?
So when is with a z Org celebrate a network
that we have Valley's number one urban gospel music station
online since two thousand and eight, and we're still here,
by the grace of God, by the promises of God.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Amen, by the will of God, we're still here or
glory to God.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
So today on Today's Morning Devo, we're talking about the gift.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
That keeps giving.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Imagine receiving something, a gift from someone, and you're still
using that gift. The other day, yesterday, Amen, I was
wearing a pair of Tyms Blue Tyms Vintage, like original
Timblin from back in the day. I had those TEMs
for like, I want to say, thirty years, twenty years

(00:53):
or whatever something like that, at least twenty years and
they still look newish.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Why because I hardly ever wear them.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
But when I was looking at them, I said, wow,
I still have this, a man, even though it wasn't
a gift and I brought them years.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Ago, I still have them, a man.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I still wear them and they still work, and it's
like something that I brought so long ago is still
giving value for me today. But we're talking about another
level of value. We're talking about a gift from God
that keeps on giving. Amen, all through your life, all
through your life, all through eternity. Actually, but let's start

(01:29):
with this side of eternity. The gift that keeps giving.
Some gifts they favorite time, right, But there's one gift
that never stops giving. That's the gift of Jesus Christ.
I know it sounds weird or it sounds corny to
a lot of people, but the gift of the Lord Jesus, Amen,
is a gift that keeps on giving. Not only in

(01:50):
Christmas season, Amen, not only in Eastern season, you know,
Resurrection Sunday and all that. But the gift of Jesus
keeps on giving. Second Career, chapter number nine, verse number fifteen,
Tewod Corinthians nine to fifteen. That's where we're gonna be today,
Sister Joanne, I see you. Good morning, God bless you.
Welcome back to the morning. Devo my system, my friend.
So the gift that keeps giving. If you have any questions, comments, concerns,

(02:16):
prayer requests, or anything along those lines, please don't hesitate
to leave it on a live chat. That's what we're
here for. We're here to engage one another in love,
in unity and prayer. Amen, support one another. Thank you
for the people that support it. I'm Giving Tuesday, which
from the time of this recording was yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Giving Tuesday happens for nonprofit ministries globally. Amen, and it's
something that we do I think every other quarter, twice
a year, three times a year, something like that.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
And thank I'm thankful for the opportunity and for the support.
Thank you so much for those who supported the ministry
through Giving Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
It's still time to give. Amen. You can always give
to the ministry. Amen.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
And I we'll talk about that some other time. But listen,
thank you for coming, Thank you for being here. Let's
see what the Lord has for us today.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Amen. Today's a new day, a new start, and let's pray.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
After we pray, we share this out for like sixty seconds,
and then when we come back on the other side
of those sixty seconds, we'll get right into our scripture.
Tewod Corinthians Chatter number nine, Verse number fifteen.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Father, thank you so much for today.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Thank you that you gave us your very best, and
your very best keeps on giving. So many people have
experienced and encountered you, Lord Jesus, and so many more
I pray will encounter you before you crack open the
sky and come back and return. We have a time
right now. We can experience you right now by way
of Holy Spirit. And there are so many people that

(03:50):
are in desperate need of salvation, so many people that
are in darkness, so many people that are not saved,
so many people that are in bondish to sin. A pray,
Lord Guy, that you're free them all and you will
continue to be magnified and glorified through your word, through
your church, through your preachers, evangelist prophets, apostles, and teachers

(04:11):
and pastors. I thank you, Lord God, that you continue
to move forward in victory and you keep on snatching
people from the darkness and bringing them into your marvelous light.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I'm so grateful.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I'm so thankful for the opportunity to do what I
do according to your promise and purpose and anoint thing.
I pray, Lord God, that you will continue to do
the same for every single individual out there right now, physically, emotionally, inspiratory,
that you would guide, guard and protect us, me and
my family, those representing their families on the other side
of this mic, and the other side of the screen,

(04:44):
those who are praying.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
For their loved ones to be saved.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
I pray, Lord God, that you will continue Love God,
to inspire us, to encourage us to move forward in
those victorious ways, to move forward by grace and mercy,
to move forward in love and an authority and empower unity.
I pray this by faith, knowing that you are able
to do what you do Low God, individually corporately, and

(05:08):
that you Lo God, will shine your light upon us,
and that we will continue to be so grateful for
the gift that keeps on giving. I pray this by faith,
knowing that you hear these prayers and you answer them
according to your purpose and plan for every single one
of us in Jesus name.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I pray it is by.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Faith, and those who agree, we say, Amen, Sue that Amen,
help me share this out sixty seconds. When we come back,
we'll get right into today's morning Devo. My bro Kevin,
come on, come on, God bless you man. It's good
to see you. It's a long time you've been on
the morning Devo. But it's good to see you back.
Brother God, bless you. Thank you so much for coming

(05:43):
through sixty seconds. When we come back, we'll get right
into today's morning Devo.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I'll be right back. Amen, we're back.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
I apologize if I shared this twice on some groups.
That's not my intention. I realized that I had double
clicked some of the groups, and I know that could
be annoying to a lot of group.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Members of the groups.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
But thank you so much, Global Outreach Ministries, Thank you.
Jesus loves you. Thank you God is Great, Come and join.
Thank you born again Christians go into all the world.
Thank your team Jesus. Thank you Podcast Promotion Group, thank
you Daily Encouragement, Thank you Christian Business Forum, and so
many others.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Open your Bible, Amen.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Another group out there, thank you so much for allowing
me to share this on your group pages.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
I'm very grateful for that. A man.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
It helps the cause Amen of spreading the Gospel message
on through platforms that normally I want to be on,
and countries and places that I can't get to. But
through the Word, through technology, Amen, and through cooperation and
through unity of the body, Amen, we could do this together. Second,
grinding is not fifteen. Let's look at it for those

(08:04):
who are just listening, No worries, no problems. We're gonna
read this word for works. Get the updates audio only
the podcast.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
So you could take that when you're jogging, working out,
when you're getting ready for work, where you're at school
on breaks, when you at work at breaks. Amen, you
can plug in your headphones and listen in to these
morning DeVos. It will really inspire you and encourage you.
Why not because me? It's because of the word of God.
The Word of God is alive a man. The word
of God is able to do what the Word of
God says. The Word of God is able to do

(08:31):
in your life individually. It's amazing how God's word works
a man, how God's word works. I can say that
ten times fast. Right, So let's go for it. Let
me put this on the screen for those who are watching. Amen,
and let's go the gift that keeps on giving. Amen
today in the morning DeVos. Second great thing is not fifteen,

(08:52):
says now, thanks b to God for his indescribable gift,
which is precious beyond words, beyond words like if you're saved,
you're born again. You know what I'm talking about, the
curiosity of those who wonder about Christians, the curiosity of

(09:13):
those who are not born again, who are not saved.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
They want to know what this is all about.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
But if you are one of those people that want
to know what this is all about, Amen, let me suggest,
let me prompt you, let me encourage you to take
a step of faith today. Tomorrow's not promised. Today that
you admit to the Lord that you're a sinner and
you need to be forgiven for your sins. Believe in
His word, Confess Jesus as your personal Lord and savior.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Amen. Take care of that today. Amen.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
As soon as you are forgiven of your sins by
the Lord Jesus, he will return inside of you by
way of Holy Spirit. He will be living, dwelling inside
of you. If you're sincere, and you'll wholeheartedly want transformation,
your whole hardly want to be saved, You wholeheartedly want
to be forgiven for your sins. He will live within

(10:05):
you by way of Holy Spirit, and then you will
never be the same. You will not be imbolished your
sin anymore. You will not be walking in darkness anymore.
You will be completed by the authority and the power
and the love, grace and mercy of the Lord. Amen,
and you will be able to say, Wow, this gift
is indescribable, a man precious beyond words. I know that

(10:26):
to be true because I'm born again, I'm saved, and
so many of my brothers and sisters can testify right
now that, yeah, this is true. The gift that keeps
on giving is the Lord Jesus Christ. His mercy meets
us every morning. His presence comforts us and every one
of our trials, how many people went through trials before.
His spirit guides you in every decision that we make.

(10:49):
That's why I tell people listen, if you're too hungry, angry,
lonely and tired, don't make a big decision in those conditions.
Make decisions based on what God's word says. Make decisions
based on what Spirit is guiding you to do. Amen,
and then you will never fail at those decisions. His
peace calms you in every storm. Right the storm is there,

(11:10):
but you have the peace in the storm. His salvation
secures us forever. So we know that the gift that
we get under the Christmas treeft fade away. We know
that but the gift of Jesus, the completion of Yahweh,
which is the Lord Jesus. That's the gift that keeps
on giving. And here's the beautiful thing about that. You

(11:33):
don't have to work for it. You don't have to
wait for a holiday to receive him.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
You don't have to wait for Christmas season to learn
about him.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
You don't work.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
You don't have to wait till east the season to
know about his resurrection.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
You could go for it right now. You don't have
to qualify to unwrap him. Right, you simply go to
the Lord. When you go to the Lord. Amen, the
presence of the Lord, his presence brings victory, his presence
brings liberty. His presence brings freedom.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
And as he offers us the gift of eternal life,
can't beat that man. So remember, Jesus is the gift
that keeps ugiving. A lot of people say this religion
of Christianity and these religious people and this that and
the third about Christianity. Listen, we have a relationship with
the Lord Jesus. We don't have a religion. Jesus Christ

(12:29):
himself did not unclothe himself. Right, and wrap himself in humanity,
going across and die for us to start a religion.
That's not true. He didn't died for a religion. He
died for people like me and you. He died so
we could live. What did Jesus do on that cross?

(12:52):
He took the sin det and paid it. He paid
off the sin det. The only one who was qualified
to pay the sin That was the Lord Jesus, the
perfect Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice, the perfect one
who lived on this earth perfectly, a man without sin.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
He did not sin.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Tempted in always that we were tempted, Yet he himself
did not sin. Got angry, but he did not sin
because of his anger. Amazing, amazing, And people to this
very day want to try to tarnish the name of
the Lord Jesus. People to this very day are trying
to make things up to accuse him of sinning. Even
in his day, while he was living on this earth,

(13:35):
his people, the Jews the Hebrews were trying to create
stories about him, calling him x y z. Yet the
truth of the matter is is that he was without blame.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
You couldn't blame.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Jesus for your down, for all my down, for he
never sinned a man. He was a humble, almighty God.
He came down in the form of a man named Jesus,
a man wrapped himself in humanity, and now we could
unwrap him for eternity as we know him as Lord

(14:08):
and Savior, as the gift of life, as the gift
of eternal life. And that's the gift that keeps on giving.
So remember, Jesus is the gift that we can't outgrow,
we can't outgive God and man, he gave us his
very best. So in turn, the only thing I could
think of. I know I can't pay him back. I

(14:28):
can't pay to send that, neither could you. The only
thing I can think of is let's live our very
best life for him right and give the gift of love,
the gift of life, the gift of the Gospel, to
someone else and hopes that they will receive that gift,
and they will take that gift, embrace that gift, and
live that gift in their life and do the same.

(14:49):
Why don't we do this? Baptize people in the name
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and
then disciple disciples, and disciples will disciple of disciples, and
this thing will can seeing to spread in our territories,
in our region and our homes, in our communities, in
our neighborhoods, in our states and our nations, and hopefully

(15:09):
all around the world. The word of God, the power
of the Gospel continues to be the gift that's given
out to many people who receive His word. Right now
have a little brother in Christ, Jacob and on a mission.
Our ministries out there in Guatemala. They're doing their thing amen, helping, serving, praying,

(15:35):
having services right sharing the Gospel with those in Guatemala.
That's a gift that they're giving out from their spirit,
the spirit of the Lord in them giving out and
then when they come back they could testify of the
goodness of them, no, the goodness of God. And those
people who are receiving that gift in Guatemala, they gonna understand.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
They got to know that there's people.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
That love because God loves them, and they love others.
It's joy, right Jesus, first others and then yourself. It's
amazing how God works in the lives of all those
who's whoevers who call upon His name to be saved.
We change people. We're not the same anymore. Cavan says,
also the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
And God divvies divvs out the gifts right away of
Holy Spirit. A gift me to do something, give you
to do something, Give another brother or another sister to do
something else.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Or we're unified, but we don't have to be all uniform.
We don't have to be all doing the same thing.
But in unity and the gifts that God pours out
upon his church, upon his people, upon his children, Amen,
they're strategically put there for a reason. Use the gift
that God gave you for his glory. I know so
many people who have the gift of music and they're
using it for the world. They're using it for their

(16:57):
own selfish gain.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Amen. And they're popular for it, right.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
And the temptation is the money, the fame to start them,
the recognition.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
But Man, that gift was given by God.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
I was having our Tuesday phone meeting with our A
and R brother Jill.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
He helps me with the music submissions and helps me
in so many other ways.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
We talk about ministry, we talk about life, we talk
about music, and we were talking about music. We're talking
about secular artists that are so gifted, amen, and what
they do. But we all know where that gift came from.
It came from the Lord in governor devil. The devil
just convinced them to use the gift that God gave
them for the purposes of the world. And I'm praying

(17:42):
for these artists, man. But if they come up out
of there, it might not be a lot of fame.
It might not be a lot of lights, cameras and
stardom and all that stuff, but it would be the
gift of eternal life.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Right.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
So, when it's all said and done, and when they
pour out of their soul poor, out of their lives,
the gift that guy gave them to reach more people
with the gospel message, that gift will return a thousand
fold way more satisfying or completely satisfying.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Because the world never satisfies.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Money doesn't satisfy, stardom doesn't satisfy. All those things, the
gift things of this world that you give to the
world and the world gives to us. Those things fade away.
But one gift never fades away. The one gift that
keeps on giving is the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord himself is the gift that is unwrapped for eternity.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
We could get this gift and apply this gift in
our lives daily. Amen, not only on this side, but
on the other side of eternity. But in the meantime,
while we're waiting for God to crack open the sky
and the Lord us to come back for his church
with a.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
New heaven and a new Earth.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
While we're waiting for that day, we should be spreading
a gift that keeps on giving. Is we have it,
and it's not for us to hoard. It's not for
us to keep this gift bottled up or hide out
and say that, yeah, I'm a Christian, but then we
go hide somewhere. You know, we're going to be outside
preaching the gospel, loving on people, laying hands on the
sick and see them recover, laying casting out demons, a

(19:12):
man in the powerful name of Jesus, doing the ministry
of God.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
Throughout our neighborhoods, throughout our country, throughout our state, throughout
the nation, throughout the neighborhoods, throughout our family. Amen, Preach
the gospel. Go ahead, take a leap of faith, Walk
in faith, Walk by faith, not by sight. We have
a gift that keeps on giving, and people want or
actually they need it. They won't admit that they need
what we have amn But when you lovingly approach someone

(19:39):
with the gift that God has given, and they will
receive that gift one way or another.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
The Bible actually says.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
That every need will bow and every time will confess
that Jesus is Lord. So it seems to me that
regardless of those people who reject the gospel, who are
actually rejecting the love of Christ, or reject eternal life,
who are rejecting transformation, who are rejecting salvation, those people,

(20:06):
if they harden their heart and keep a heartened heart
because they're blaming the church, they probably will hurt.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Somehow, someway by family member.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
It could be so many things, so many reasons why
they're rejecting Jesus. They're rejecting their creator. But at the end,
if they stay in that condition, their needs are going
to bow and their tongues confess that Jesus is Lord.
Why because God is eternal, and his word is true,
and his promises are all yay and amen, and his

(20:36):
prophecies all come to pass. But I know that our
God is not a God who forces his way into
our lives. I could testify, and I'm pretty sure you
could testify. God did not force his way in our
lives to save us. He offered the gift of eternal life,
offered salvation, He offered himself Amen, on a cross. I

(21:01):
wasn't there to see it. You wasn't there to see it.
But we see the results of what Jesus did on
that cross all the way to this very moment. The results,
the cause and effect of what Jesus did. He changed
all eternity, and he offers us a way to be
with Him for all eternity. And what people reject when

(21:22):
we preach the Gospel to someone and they rejected, they're
rejecting the opportunity to be with the Lord, to be
with the Savior, to be with our creator, our Father
yahbweh Amen. They're rejecting that unity, they're rejecting that eternal destination.
And sometimes I think about it. I walk away sad.
Sometimes I'm like, man, you know, what is it that

(21:44):
this world offers that's better than what God offers? And
in my estimation, nothing, nothing that this world offers us
could really come and compare to what God is offering us.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
The gift that keeps on giving is the Lord Jesus,
the gift that keeps on giving, and the gift that
keeps on changing us.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
It's amazing. The gift that keeps on changing us is amazing.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
We have the gift of life. We have the gift
that keeps on giving. We have the power of Holy Spirit.
We continue to move forward. We continue to magnify the
Lord's name. We continue to pray, We continue to unite,
we continue to congregate. We continue to love one another.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Continue to love our wives as Jesus loved the church,
and wives continue to love their husbands and respect their husbands. Amen,
as Jesus said to do, and the Word says to do.
And from that we have a gift to give to
one another, to give to this world.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Amen, you are a gift. I'm a gift.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving by way
of His Holy Spirit living in you and living in me.
The gift that keeps giving. Man, Jesus never fades away.
His word phrase, his word never loses power.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
His word.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Every day when you read the Word of God, you're
reading the truth. And when you apply God's word, then
they're applying the truth in your life and in my life.
His word doesn't lose power, His word doesn't fade away.
His word doesn't lose value. His word is always relevant, Amen,
in your life and in my life. When is there
a time that God has not been? God has always been,

(23:25):
He always will be a man, and he always is.
He's a present God. He's not a yesterday past God.
He's not a far away God. He's not a God
that doesn't understand. He's not a God that doesn't respond.
He's not a God that's not relevant. He's not a
God that doesn't know all things. He's a God of all.
He's a God that's omnipresent. He's a God that's all powerful.

(23:47):
He's a God that's available. He's a God that is
Jehovah Shama, the God who is there in your situation
and the God who is here in my situation. That's
a powerful gift a man. No offense to anybody who
has ever given me gifts. But all the gifts that
ever got in my life doesn't compare it to the
one gift that Jesus gave me. Amen, I'm grateful for

(24:10):
every gift that I've given I've gotten, Amen, Trust me,
and a lot of the gifts that people have given me,
I still have them. If they didn't fade away or break,
I still have it.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Amen. I cherish the gift that I have, the gifts
that I get.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
So imagine how much more I cherish the gift that
God gave me if I cherish the gift that.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
You give me.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Amen, whether it's a donation for the ministry, whether it's
a prayer, Amen, whether it's just hanging out right, the
gift of your time that I could never return.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
I can never repay you for your time. Amen.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
But man, compared to the gift of God, that's just
God is just like the ultimate bonus, his plan, his gift,
his purpose, his life, his sacrifice, his salvation.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Amen. He gives his purpose Man.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
He gives us reasons to live a life worth living.
He encourages us to move again, move forward again, to
dream again, to be encouraged and aspire to read his
word and to apply his word.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
So his mercy meets you every morning.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
His presence comforts you in every trial, His spirit guides
you in every decision. His peace calms you in every storm,
and his salvation secures you and me forever. That's the
gift that keeps on giving. Second Corinthians, chapter number nine,
Verse number fifteen. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.

(25:31):
A man read Second Corinthians, chapter nine, the whole chapter,
but we camped out in verse number fifteen, amount of time.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Thank you so much.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
