I don't want to miss any days until and so
we have fourteen well, we had fourteen Curtis Grant days
until we played Texas in the Shoe Curtis Grant. Listen, man,
for those who know this is my guy.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Great dude.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
First of all, he had that epic halftime speech which
I kind of featured on the song that I'm gonna
get to in a second.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
That was just epic. He really really stepped up.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
He was a five star player and you know, really
really stepped up his senior year as a leader to
help lead this defense to a natty And again, great dude.
His wife is wonderful. They just opened up a pure
Green juice bar on campus. Y'all North High Street. I
think it's fourteen seventy five North High Street. It is okay,
(01:56):
So make sure I went to the grand opening to
support and all that, and I will be back as.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
The season starts. Make sure you support them.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
First of all, the pure Green is great. It's a
great product, great store, great smoothies. But support Curtis Grant
and his wife. Man. They putting in the work. And
he's just a great buck guy and a great dude.
And also one quick reminder, this is him on the right.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
He's on the song.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
He might be rapping or he might not be, but
he's on the song and he did an excellent job.
The song is called you know what time it is?
It's be Moses feature in Curtis Grant and Ron Lyles.
It's on all streaming platforms. Make sure you check it out.
This needs to be on your pregame playlist. Shout out
to Curtis Grant Man, excellent dude. And then of course
today we have thirteen Mole Cleasy aka Maurice Clarett days
(02:47):
until the game in the Shoe versus Texas. Shout out
to Maurice Clarett really quickly. You know, obviously Maurice has
a story to tell. Freshman phenom here at Ohio State.
We all know what happened with you know, everything that
went down.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
But guess what, this young man turned his life around.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And he's you know, been around the country to share
his story and to encourage troubled youth to.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
You know, go down the right path.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
And not only that, recently he connected with Ryan Day
and the coaching staff of Ohio Stateton has been a
leader there. He's been a guy to be there in
the locker room, to mentor and just be a part
of the team. It's been so dope to see him
running down the sidelines and smiling and dapping up players
and just back in the program. Man and so much
(03:39):
love for Maurice Claret. Now we got to get prior
back here in the program, but that's another podcast. But anyway,
one last thing, make sure you understand we're going to
keep telling you this. Our Pay It Forward program goes
to our military and our first responders. We're going to
take care of them because they take care of us.
So when you send a super chat, helps to go
(04:00):
towards them. All Right, So Nevada, what is good?
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Brother?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
How are you on this.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Glorious Sunday evening getting closer to Buckeye football.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, I'm I'm super excited. While we're plugging, Team Team
USA did beat Canada in the day.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Okay, Team USA beat Canada yesterday in the in the series,
first time since twenty seventeen, eighteen eighteen year girls got
it done in Lake Placid, and that was obviously very
very very exciting.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
So shout out to the Team USA on that.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Now, I'm I'm excited. There was a scrimmage yesterday, and
you know, I think things are starting to become clearer
as you know, as the season comes into focus, and
I just can't get away from the fact I think
this team is going to be really good. I think
this is gonna be a really good team, and I'm
(04:59):
excited to see you know, as excited as we are
about Texas. You know, you wish maybe it was a
little easier game that we'd have, but in terms of games,
you know, being big, in terms of having great players
of this, I had great coaches, a great atmosphere, Matthew McConaughey,
the cheerleaders, the whole thing. I mean, it's all it's
(05:21):
all on, man, It's on, like Donkey Kong here in
less than in less than two weeks. So I'm I'm excited.
As I told you pre game, I never take it
for granted anytime I go to the Shoe because I
never know that's gonna be last time I'm gonna see
a game. You know, you never know, you know, so
I don't take it one day at a time. But
I'm sure excited to be there and I get to
(05:41):
hang out with you, get to hang out with my boys,
and hopefully see a buck Eye Vicory. So thirteen days, man, let's.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Go, Yes, yes, man, And and all the all the
buzz and intel we're getting about what's going on behind
the scenes and in the scrimmage and everything. It just
makes it easy and more crazy, excited wise, and again,
it's just it's such a blessing to be a Buckeye fan.
We're coming off of a natty and you know, most
(06:11):
schools will be like, man, I don't know, man, like
we got to rebuild or you know whatever. Nah, we're
right there in the natty talk as we should be.
We have the talent. But this first game is going
to be a big one, and so we're gonna talk about,
you know, some things with the.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Scrimmage and who's stepping up.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
And I'll say, guess what, my guy, my guy, Nevada,
Brandon Innis is a captain. Baby that leadership leadership man.
When I went to practice, I mean he screamed captain,
like that's a captain and he.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Was able to obtain that.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And just for those who don't know, the four captains
are Brandon Nis, Sunny Styles, Caleb Downs, and Austin Sarahveld
isn't that crazy? Sarahvel Will from get this bum out
of here three star to captain Ironbuck. Guy, Man, that's
exciting and beautiful. You got anything on that, Nevada?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Well let me ask you. Okay, So Brandon in is
to my knowledge. I mean, I'm not sure, but he's
a junior. So he's an under underclassman at Ohio State
that has never started a game and he's a captain.
That's that's well, it palls me a couple of things. One, Obviously,
it's it's a ringing endorsement. We've always known Brandon's always
(07:25):
been an alpha dog. I mean, he's been an alpha
dog since you know, He's always been a leader on
every team he's been on. He's just that guy. He's
a tough guy, he leads by example, great player, and
you know, certainly a hollowed guy, certainly an inspirational leader.
But I you know, one's an observation and then one's
(07:47):
a question for you. One, this is the youngest group
of captains we've ever had, because think but Sunny's a reclassification,
you know, you know what I'm saying, So like and
the rest are underclassmen. And you know it's last year
we had an abundance leader. Last year you could have
(08:08):
named twelve captains, and this year we're having trouble finding four.
And that's not you know, I'm not I'm not dogging anybody.
I'm just saying We're a young team. We're a very
young team, a very inexperienced team. And so Brandon, you know,
being there as a as a junior who's never played,
(08:28):
I mean, before the juniors would be guys like James
Laurnidis or somebody, you know, somebody who's like an All
American or something like that, but Brandon hasn't even played
a game yet. How do you feel about it? Are
you okay with that? I mean, does that bother you
in any way? Does that give you any concern about
the senior leadership or the elder statesman on this team
or do you think it's just the hallmarker just having
(08:50):
a young, exciting team and that's just kind of how
we're going to roll this year.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah, I'll answer you.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I'll go from the beginning of what you said and
kind of asked and didn't answered on the tail end.
So to me, Nevada, I think one of the great
byproducts of having all those guys come back like they
did is obviously not just their talent, you know that
was displayed on the field last year, but their leadership
in the locker room, being able to disciple others. When
(09:17):
you got guys like Jack Sawyer and Trey Henderson, you know,
coming at BUKA, coming back another year when they could
have went to the NFL. It's like, guys, it's just
another year of discipleship and to be able to learn
from pros and super mature guys like those guys are
some of the most mature guys that have come through
(09:38):
the program. So you got guys like Ennis who already
is a leader just naturally has natural leadership skills, and
then he can just also glean from such great leadership
with those guys that just mentioned, So that's powerful. And
then of course Caleb Downs. A guy like Caleb Downs,
(09:59):
he's just a once in a generation type of player
because not only is he highly skilled, but he's very,
very smart and mature. So it's just to me, I
think it's a little different for those reasons. Now, with
that said, I think I'm not worried about Brandon Ennis
never starting because, like I said, I've been high on him,
(10:19):
He's been waiting his turn. I don't like again my
comp with him is kJ Hill. kJ Hill's not Ted Gin.
kJ Hill you know, wasn't you know, like a super
duper speedster, but he was productive and that's how I
see Ennis. He was tough, gritty, the you know, the
tough five yards to move the chains type of guy.
(10:41):
That's what Brandon Ennis is going to be. And like, like
I said, when he plays. Last year he didn't play much,
but when he was in there, he was physical blocking.
He caught a touchdown pass again against Penn State. He
caught a great third and long against Notre Dame in
the National Championship game. He didn't look like he was
(11:01):
He didn't belong out there. Now it's just time to
step up. And seeing him at practice a few weeks ago,
he was catching everything and he was leading. And like
to me, a part of leadership is who's following you.
You say you're a leader, but if there's no one
following you, that's kind of hard to sell. That whole
team was leading. I mean they were following his lead
(11:23):
in practice and he was showing it on the field
in drills and then you know, one versus one reps.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
So listen, man, I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
That's a long winded answer to say I'm not worried
about his lack of playing time and experience with him
being a captain, because I think he's going to show
and prove on the field this year.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Yeah, well, you know, it's it's definitely you know, I
think you can kind of you get an idea of
about how people feel about and not just the players,
but the coaches too, because the coaches obviously they can
only say people vote and they this and that, but
the coaches picked their captains. And you know, you've got
four guys right now that you know, had just kind
(12:05):
of radically different paths to be accept and you know
you've got you know, Sonny obviously, the five star all everything,
you know type of player. You know, Caleb obviously with
his you know, his credentials, and you know, Austin ceierbelts
couldn't have been more different, you know what I'm saying,
the three star kind of throw in, kind of doing
it the hard way type of thing. And and then Brandon,
(12:28):
you know, highly regarded but hadn't really seen the field.
So you've got guys with a lot of different experiences
coming here to Ohio State, a lot of different experiences
while they've been at Ohio State, and you know it's
going to be interesting to watch though. I think the
the leadership is one of those things that's kind of
an underrated trait for teams, you know what I'm saying.
And I think you never know about it until you
(12:50):
need it. And I think it took great veteran leadership
to lead us out of the wilderness after the Michigan
game last year and through that that four team uh
football playoff run. You know that we're we'll be talking
about the rest of our lives. So I just you know,
I hope that we have enough leadership on this team
to be able to weather the inevitable storm that's gonna
(13:13):
come from a difficult schedule, tough road trips. I mean,
we've got a lot of things that you get up to. Man,
it's a long season. It's a gruel. It's you know,
the season. You know, I look back on old records,
will how's that teams and they finished the year nine
and one or something like that, and I'm like, yeah,
this year, that won't even get you to halfway through
the season, you know, like, yeah, you're nine and one.
(13:35):
It's like, oh, now you're getting into the good part.
You only got seven ranked opponents in a row to
play left to the National Championships, so uh yeah, no,
it's good. It's it's gonna be exciting and I'm excited
to see it. And for Brandon, yeah, you've been on him.
And if Brandon and this has a big year, we're
going to have a really big year. Because we know
Carnell is gonna eat, we know JJ is gonna eat,
(13:58):
we know Max Player is gonna eat. And if Brandon
Innes is eating too, you know what I'm saying, then
then we're doing really well. And uh, and the osted
offense is definitely not gonna be gonna be missing much.
So I'm excited about that for sure.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Yep, gonna be a problem. And I'm and I will
guarantee you he gonna eat. I'll put my.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Stamp on it, my mark on it. Us.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Brandon's got to stick together. But no, he's going He's
going to eat, man, he really is. And I'm excited
to see it. But but Nevada, let's uh, give me
your thoughts on the helping Technician and Funky's updates for
the scrimmage. Man, Like, what's your thoughts. It's a lot
of great stuff in there, but uh, I want you
to kick it off. Man, give me your thoughts on
on the update for the scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Well, I think the big thing. You know, I wouldn't
call this exactly breaking news, but Julian saying is the man.
You know, we've been saying that for a long saying ha,
no fun intending that for a long time. But uh,
I mean, he's the guy. I'm not sure how how
Ryan's going to handle the formal announcement of that, but
(15:00):
you know, clearly he was waiting for a time until
you know it was there was no doubt. You know,
he wanted it to be a no doubt or he
wanted everybody to follow, and you want somebody to follow
your quarterback. And Julian's just got it. He's just got everything.
He's got the look, he took eighty percent of the reps.
He's the guy. He puts the ball in the right spot.
(15:20):
Very responsible guy. I just I can't say enough good
things about him. He's an old soul. So while he's
young and inexperienced from a college football standpoint, man, he's
mature bond his years, and I think he's a guy
that's going to be able to handle the pressure. Now.
Uh you know, watch him go out there a Goods
(15:40):
Texas Atlanta. But I mean, Julian's I just think he's
that guy. I think Julian, you know, I think if
they can protect him and and give him a just
a reasonably clean pocket, I think he's going to deliver
the ball on time, inaccurately. And he certainly did that
in the scrimmage. He's certainly been doing that, irifall camp,
(16:01):
but in the scrimmage was especially sharp. And I think
it kind of, you know, if there was any doubt
for Ryan Day or the offensive Ryan Hartline, the offensive staff,
I think he kind of alleviated that. And you know,
he's a guy that you know, while they haven't named it,
you know formally yet I think I looked for that
to happen, you know, really really shortly. And you know,
(16:21):
another guy that you know kind of came in a
little bit under the under the raider would be Jalen McLean.
You know, a guy that's at safety that you know
they've they've talked a lot about, you know, what they're
going to do with with with him and with Hartford
and with Caleb downs to the Nickel and what they're
gonna do. But man, Jalen is just a heck of
(16:41):
a player. I mean, he is a heck of a player.
He's a guy that when he talked to the defensive staff,
he's a guy that's one of the first names, you know,
out of their lips every single time. And that's just
that's exciting for me. You know, in an offense with
Matt Patricia where he likes to feature the safeties, I mean,
I think that's kind of a you know, a hallmark
of a lot of the modern defenses. But you need
(17:03):
to have those versatile players, those hybrids that can do
it all that can you know, you know, helping me
in the run game and protect against the past. And
Jalen's just a smart, smart player, physical player, great in coverage. Yeah,
I mean, so he's he packs a wallet back there,
and you know, he's a guy and another guy who's
outstanding in the scrimmage. And you know, Peyton Pierce is
(17:25):
a guy that you know, they're they're arresting some of
the older guys. You know, I'm some of the guys
that a little bit more experienced. The r VL reesis
and the other guys are getting a little bit of
a break. But a guy like Peyton Pierce is having
a chance to kind of step up and do things,
and you know, the linebacker room. You know, I think
there's a lot of question marks in the linebacker room
coming in this year. But man, man, we're getting a
(17:46):
lot of answers there with some of the young guys
coming in and with the established group that we have.
So Peyton is a guy that I really really like.
I you know, I mean, is he gonna feature over
in RVL reefs or over a Sunny Styles or you know,
you know, he doesn't play the same way as like
a CJ. Hicks does as a stand up on the outside,
(18:09):
But man, Peyton Pierce, he's a problems. He's a guy
that just continues to shine for Ohio State and really
really do good things that I'm really really excited about
his future here in whatever position they decide to bring
him in. And the offensive line is starting to take
shape as well. You know, I think it's been kind
(18:29):
of I want to talk about a guy who hasn't
been in the starting thing right now, but I think
he's kind of getting the kind of the whipping boy
designation right now. And that's Ethan Owen now and you know,
the big tackle from Rice. It's like it's kind of
fashionable to dog him right now, and so you see
the articles, oh Ohio State missed on this guy and
(18:50):
they paid a bunch of money and he's not very
any good and blah blah blah. And it's like, man,
I heard the same stuff about Carson Hinzman last year.
Not not not in terms of paying him a lot
of money in there, but you know guys that were
buried on the depth chart that people just give it
up on. He'll never play here, he'll never be any good.
And you know, I think Ethan's kind of earned that
(19:12):
designation right now where people are really dogging him and
the media seeds to really be turning on him, and
I'm just telling I think it's a mistake. I think
you know, he's he's he's a massive individual, been great
in the running game, struggled a little bit in the
passing game, but he's getting better. And he's just you know,
I think people, I remember, you know, kids come in here,
they're not finished product. He's coming from Rice where it's
(19:36):
not the same as Ohio State. You're not going up
against you know CJ. Hicks and RVL Reese and these
guys every day in practice, and you know, Kyden Currie
and Kenyatta Jackson and bo Atkinson. But he is here
and he's struggled a bit, but I think he's getting better.
And I think in a long season like this, to
have a guy, I mean, if somebody goes down the line,
(19:58):
he's the first man up. I mean, he is the
first man up right there, and you know, I think
they're gonna move him around. So don't write them out.
Don't don't buy into the silliness of writing off a
kid like that, because I'm telling you he's a guy
that's going to go to the next level the NFL
and play a long time and people are gonna be like, Wow,
that that Ethan guy was at Ohio State, and Wow,
(20:19):
he's in his tenth season with the Seattle Seahawks or
whatever it is, and it's like, I mean, he's he's
a good player, he's better. The people didn't and so
don't buy into the negative hype on Ethan. We always
talk about hyping hyping guys up positively, but don't find
in the negative hype onnything. He's a really good player
and I think he's got a bright future. It'll ha stay,
even if it's only gonna be for one year. I
(20:41):
think he's going to make some real contributions here.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Yeah, that's a good call out, man, because the funny
thing is, and listen, man, I know, I know the
media and they write their stories, and I know clicks
are needed and you know certain angles will be taken.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
But it's just funny that.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
On my end, as a fan and as an analyst,
I'm excited about the depth that's being built. Philip Daniels
is a beast. Like Philip Daniels has come on. This
is not about how weak Ethan is. This is about
how much depth we have. And so coming off of
last year with all the injuries and the you know,
(21:23):
obviously we finished strong, you know with our ninth linemen
and all the other stuff. But the fact that we've
gained quality depth and really hitting the portal is exciting
to me.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
So instead of looking at.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Oh, well this is negative, Ethan's not coming on, Well, no,
I'm looking at it as a positive. Like I said,
coaches and inside the Whack, they're not down on Ethan.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
They're not.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Philip Daniels is coming on. Austin Sarahvels has come on.
He's shown he's the best at left tackle. But Ethan
is right there. I mean, he's right there. And just
like Josh Simmons, he didn't come out the gate looking
like the first round drivet pick for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He had to make an adjustment from San Diego State.
The talent was there. You saw the athleticism and a talent,
(22:11):
but it took him some time as well. But of course,
if cats don't come right out the gate and invited in there,
you know, to waste the money, waste the time and
the bus you know how some of that goes. But
I'm excited about this depth, and I'm excited about this
old line, and so with these scrimmage nuggets and also
seeing him in person, I'm just that the run game,
(22:33):
because we know the past game is going to be good.
I'm not worried about saying as long as we keep
him clean and we you know, make sure we give
a good game plan.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
For him, I'm not worried about him.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
But I'm excited about this old line and being able
to open up holes for people's in CJ.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Donaldson. Speaking of CJ. Donaldson, one of the.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Other things, because I told y'all he looked good when
I was there, but ever since then, He's just the
news from the inside of it been getting better and better.
CJ's cooking, he is cooking. So the run game with
him and people's I'm getting more excited about that as
well because we got smallers up front, and so that
is exciting. Nevada, I told you my bold prediction was
(23:16):
Joe Moore Award. That was my bold prediction. So I'm
super high on this old line. So, like you said,
they better not go lay an egg against texta A.
He was pumping to say it up, but no, I
don't think they will. So that's very exciting. But then
also going back to Piers, I'm kind of going from
where you ended to where you started to comment. But
(23:37):
with Peyton, Piers, listen, we knew James larr knightis loved
him even last year. He sung his praises last year,
and so I think he's gonna play, He's gonna rotate in,
but we're really going to get to see him shine
against the Wisconsins of the world when we go free linebacker,
you know, at least a part of the time. And
so I'm excited about about the linebacker room. This get
(24:00):
better and deeper. These freshmen are going to come on.
As the year goes on, We're going to see them pop.
We're going to see Alfred Pop and Petty John pop,
you know, athletic hitters. And so I'm excited about the room.
And then Julia's saying, you know, I mean, I just
think he needs once he gets in there and just
(24:23):
gets it going, I think he's just going to settle
in quickly. You know, obviously, man, this is a big,
big game. You're at home, thankfully, but a big game
against a big opponent. And so I know, day in
heartline understand, you know, listen, we need to balance out
getting him in a rhythm, getting him comfortable with what's
(24:46):
most effective schematically versus what they believe Sark defensively is
going to do. You know, you got to kind of
go up and scheme up the opponent on what you
think they're going to do and cater the game plan
towards that, but also balance that out with something that
will get saying going. And I think quick passes like
you said, r po things like that. And I'm excited, man,
(25:11):
I'm geeked. I'm excited. But yeah, yeah, yeah, this this team,
this team for those who are pointed at twenty twenty six,
we'll just you know, that's where where we're gonna be stacked.
I don't know, I don't know, man, I'm looking at now,
and this team has a real opportunity to be right
there and to think of things to you know, go
(25:31):
back to back.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
What do you think, Well, you know, it's it's always
about quarterback play. You know, it's always I don't say
it begins and ends there, but that's certainly you know,
a point where you got to get it. And I
think they've just you know, I think what's the open
question is how is Heartline going to do calling a
game because he's never called a game before. How much
help will you get from Ryan Day? How much help
(25:53):
will they get from other people? But what they've been
trying to do, they've been they've been trying to help
them out. They've been trying to help the whole team
out in terms of making some stuff little bit easier.
So you may see the uh, the return of the
screen pass. I'm sure Texas has nightmares about the screen
pass after last year. Where when we I mean, how
many screen passes like that? I mean I'm not talking
about wide receiver screens. I'm talking about like the traditional
(26:15):
screen pass to the running back. Did we run last year?
Do you think in sixteen games that you can remember?
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Did I remember? Not enough? I would say under under
maybe five to seven maybe total.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
I was gonna say, I mean I think I can
remember like three. I mean, it wasn't It wasn't many,
you know. And uh, the fact that they pulled it
out right at the perfect time when Texas is blitzing
and then Trey takes up the house one of my
favorite play of my favorite if you ever go back
and watch that play on YouTube or whatever it is,
(26:51):
when when you're doing it, go watch the blocking up
in front of them, because nobody really blocked. They just
kind of all run out there. It's kind of playing
flag football. You just kind of running out there, and
everybody just kind of picked the guy and Trade to
split them. And it was just gonzo.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
You know.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
It wasn't like seven blocks of granite and people, you know,
the longest yard they're blocking and guys are flying all
over the field. They just kind of ran out there
and just kind of got in front of guys and
then Trade just kind of took them all the way
down the down the sideline but I think you're gonna
see more. I think you're gonna see more screens this
year than maybe you've ever seen before. You're also going
to see them. You know, we've talked about C. J.
(27:26):
Donaldson and we've talked about People's, but they're trying to
do some stuff with Turbo Rogers, which is kind of
interesting because you know, we when we started talking about
the running backs at the end of the year, it
was you know, it was People's, it was Donaldson and
maybe we'd mix up Bo Jackson reference in there. But
with Turbo, they're trying to do some interesting thing. I mean,
you know, I didn't even want to say the Percy
(27:47):
hard but they're trying to do some interesting things with
Turbo Rogers and trying to get him the ball in
trade of ways, because he's one of those guys that
can absolutely you know, take it to the crib if
he gets a little of a whole. You know, he's he's,
you know, that that little guy that we traditionally haven't had.
He's the little guy that, like we talked about last time,
goes to Purdue, goes to Iowa, goes to Illinois or
(28:11):
something like that, and then confounds us. But you know,
if we have one of those guys this year, and
they've been trying to feature him in some really interesting ways,
and uh, you know, I want to switch to the
defenses for a second, But I I came into this
year having real questions about the defense just because we
lost so much and getting a new coordinator. You know,
(28:34):
I was a big Noles fan. But man, the defense
looks good. Man. You know, if you say to me
before you know the season, like which unit is going
to overperform? If I if I have to pick one,
it's going to be the defense. I think the defense
is going to outperform expectations. I think Patricia's really I
(28:54):
think he's he's a genius. I think he's a mad genius.
They are on defense, and he's really cooking up some
stuff up there on the front in terms of creative
ways to bring pressure, creative ways to create havoc in
the backfield, and I I think it's gonna be very
It's gonna be a great chess match between him and Sarkisia,
(29:14):
between Caleb and arch Manning and whole thing. But man,
they're doing some interesting things up front. The way that
these taught the guys to run these these picks and
these twists and these stunts and the different action that
they're doing up front. It's not like anything I've ever
really seen before. It's definitely a pro style. And you know,
(29:35):
if you think about the Ohio State offense, the way
that we've generated pass us generally in the past has
been Will Smith or Chase Young or Joey Bosa is
just better than the guy in front of him, and
he beats him around the edge and sacks barterback. That's
not what they're doing this year, you know what I'm
saying like that that if they're they're finding ways to
get them help and move them around and create numerical
(29:58):
mismatches and u create rubs and picks and stunts and
other things like that. So I think you'll see a
lot of that same, you know, tackle for loss sack
type of action, but the process of getting there is
completely different than anything I've ever seen in Ohio State before.
So I'm excited about it. And I think I think
(30:19):
Matt's got some stuff in his bag for for Texas
and for Arch that could could be really interesting. And
they had that on display in the h in the
scrimmage as well, So very very exciting to see that.
And you know, thirteen days, man, I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yes, sir, I told you man, after that scrimmage, after
I went to the I'm sorry to practice, I was
fired up about the about the defense, and so I'm
right with you and I'm still fired up. So I
have a question as I and I'll continue. Actually, no,
I'm gonna ask you the question. I'm gonna se what
your response is. And even to the chat. I asked
(30:55):
my group chat yesterday about this about Sunny Styles. Okay,
because we know Sunny Styles. He's reclassified. He doesn't look young,
but he's still young. He's still developing and learning, especially
the linebacker position. So my question for you Nevada and
the chat, do you expect what kind of improvement do
(31:19):
you expect this season? Significant improvement or just kind of
the same of what we saw towards the end of
last year. Like he's not gonna regress, but he's also
not going to be super impactful, like on another level,
he's just gonna be good again. Do you think he's
just gonna be good again or do you think the
(31:41):
impact will be significant or the improvement will be significant chat.
I want you to answer this because I'm very curious
about the mindset with Sonny styles, because let me preface this, Nevada.
I'm asking because and Funky try to get at me
a little bit. A couple of weeks ago when I
said this, I know he's I know he's a captain now,
(32:02):
but I felt like Rvil Reese was the shiny toy
that was getting most of the love and the media,
and Sonny was kind of, oh, yeah, he's he should
be good. But Reese, though, that's kind of the energy
I was feeling. And so I'm asking that question kind
of based off of that. So I guess what's your
answer on that? What do you expect from Sonny this year?
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And the chat? Please, I want to know what y'all thoughts.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
I'm sorry, go ahead, Well, I think I mean, in
my opinion, I think Rvell flashed more than Sonny in
his activity last year, you know what I'm saying. So
like I think it was. I think the hype about
Arville can be can be real. But I think Sonny's
gonna have a monster year. I think he's gonna have
a monster year. And and and Matt Patricia knows. I
(32:47):
think one of the best things is when a new
coordinator can come in and can kind of activate a guy.
And you know, we saw it with Malie Hooker, where
you know, he was buried on the on the on
the on the bench, you know, like he wouldn't playing,
and then Gregg Gianno came in and said, no, this
guy's got to be on the field, and he came
on and had one of the greatest safety seasons that
any of us. There is maybe the greatest safety season
(33:09):
ever the history of Ohio State. So I think Matt
Patricia feels that same way about Sonny Styles. I think
he feels like he was a little underutilized in the
system under Knowles and that they're going to try to
unlock some of that athleticism. I think Sonny Sonny's a
guy that's a that he's clearly I mean, he's going
to go to the combine and said all sorts of
(33:30):
combine records and you can just look at him and
he looks like he was a you know, body by b.
Moses and just you know, like you know, just I mean,
he's he's an unbelievable physical specimen. But I don't know
if he's played up to that yet, you know what
I'm saying, Like, I don't know if they were if
they managed to unleash him in a way like the
way we have with Caleb Downs. Like you see Caleb Downs,
You're like, Okay, I get it. I understand what all
(33:51):
the hypes about because that's a guy just all over
the field, just making making plays. I think that's what
we're gonna see out of Sony styles this year. I
think we're going to see he'll have a Downs type
of impact and a huge improvement, you know, by virtue
of a defensive coordinator that's going to put him in
positions to allow him to run side to side a
(34:13):
little bit more and you show off that athleticism, get
after the quarterback, make big plays. And so I'm calling
for him to make a big step forward this year
along with arv Reas. I mean, Arval Reves could lead
the team in sacks this year. That's how bullish I
am on arvll Reves. But I think Sonny's going to
have a big year as well on a defense that's
going to outperform expectations.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Yeah, okay, so the chat I'm seeing some massive improvement,
massive improvement. Sony's going to ball out. I mean, you
know it's Sonny will be great. Sony's going to be
a dog.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Okay, okay, all right.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
I mean so I just to me when I went
back and watched the games. You know how Nevada, sometimes
if when you watch stuff only one time, it's kind
of a blur. You remember like plays and like big
plays that happened, but you don't remember everyone that was
in on the play. That's how it was with Sonny
going back watching the end of the season, in the
(35:10):
playoff run, he was in on more plays than I thought.
You could see the growth because again, Reese was popping more,
he was triggering faster, he was reading faster. Sonny was
still kind of learning and he wasn't terrible, but he
also wasn't popping. And towards the end of the season
he was in on more plays than I remembered. So
I was like, yo, man, like, hey, we need to
(35:31):
we need to give a little more love for what
he might be able to do going into the season
with another spring, another you know, winter, another fall camp
all that, and of.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Course physically this dude is a monster.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
And so I'm just I'm just saying, I'm very excited
about Sonny and your point about Patricia activating him with
that NFL pedigree to be able to take a guy
and properly utilize him according to his skill set.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
I mean, that's just the cherry on top of his
natural growth.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
And so yeah, I wanted to ask that, and then
I kind of wanted to go back to something. Excuse me,
because we have not mentioned somebody, not even one time,
and I want to bring them up on the screen
for about forty seconds here so you can see this
absolute craziness superstar status right here for JJ Smith. Look
(36:45):
at this man forwards crazy. So I'll go ahead and
stop it right there at about it. That's at the
Dick Sporting Goods at the plais Mall here in Columbus, Ohio.
(37:06):
All right, JJ Smith, And I'm just showing you how
crazy that is. He's a rock star and he deserves it.
And this is the same young man who said he
hesitated last year because he was still learning and still
you know, he wasn't going full speed. Some people think
that's cap and he just talking. I don't know, remember,
I know he doesn't look like it, but you understand
(37:28):
he was a freshman last year, Right, y'all, freshmen have
to come in and learn the playbook. They have to
learn the scheme and get comfortable. And so for him
to say that, and then this is what I'm excited about,
is that the team that supposedly shut him down shut
him down with Texas.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
They did do a good job, but with the cloud.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Coverage and bracketing him, and I don't think we did
a great job of countering that. Now he gets to
bounce back at the shoe against the team that could
at least have an argument that stopped him or held
him in check. And so he's pumped up. You could
tell this by what he's saying. You know, in this
interview today, he was saying he can't wait to put
(38:11):
on the show. You know, this offensive staff is going
to want to redeem themselves for the lack of what
they could have done to combat with Texas did. And
so that's another exciting thing I wanted to bring up
because we have not touched on him, and I know
everybody know JJ Smith's a dog, but we still need
to talk about this young man.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
But I thought this was hilarious and I'm glad my
son was.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Able to get his autograph without.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Having to stand in line.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
You know, he was able to get his autograph at
the facility, thankfully, because this is crazy. I'm like, I'm sorry, son,
but we're gonna have to you just look, I know
it ain't gonna happen, but Nevada.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
What you got him there? Well it's in one. Yeah,
he's a little I mean whatever. Whenever I throw an
adjective at JJ, I think I kind of catch myself
because I'm like, and it's just hyperbole, but I mean
I think he's gonna be the greatest receiver to ever play.
I mean ever play, just period. Not in Ohio State,
(39:10):
not in the Big Ten, not in college football. I mean,
I just think he's that guy and there has to
be one, and I just think he's that guy. And
I think the fact that he just has the makeup
that he does to be able to handle this and
not have it completely you know, distract him, destroy him,
turn him into a prima donna or whatever it is.
(39:32):
I mean, he just keeps working harder. And as for
Ohio State, I mean they're gonna move him all over
the field. They have been. They'll line him up in
the slot, they'll line him, line him up outside, they'll
line him up in the backfield, they'll line him up
outside the tight end. I mean, they've got him all
over the field. And when you do that, it makes
it tough to run that bracket coverage and run that cloud.
(39:53):
And you've got guys. When you've got him moving all
over the field, they've got him in motion, they've got stuff.
So watch your JJ Smith if you injured a lot
of interesting spots, and you know, like you said, Texas
fighted one, you're one of the best jobs last year
of slowing him down. We'll see if they can do
it again, because I think Ohio State's got something for
them as well.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
Yeah, for sure, and run real quick thing.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
I know Michigan fans try to say, well, you know,
he had five receptions for thirty five yards. First of all,
if you remember the game, he drew like three or
four PI penalties. You know they couldn't they couldn't stop him,
and we didn't throw him in the ball enough. So
the game plan is just like no, like that, don't
even I don't know Texas I think was a legitimate like, Okay,
we schemed him up, you know, our zone defense, cloud coverage,
(40:41):
you know, they did a great job and we.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Didn't do a good enough job of combating that.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
But whatever the point is, I'm excited to see JJ
and what we do with him against this Texas defense
and also what we do to make Texas pay for
overreacting to JJ, because I'm telling you there's gonna be
a lot of eye candy pre snap and the Brandon
(41:06):
innis is the tats and the people's out of the
backfield who can catch like Henderson. His hands are feathery soft,
he can catch that rock and he ain't slow. And
of course obviously Max clear down the scene like our
offensive weapons. I just can't wait to see it. But
(41:26):
as of right now, I'm fired up about this defense man.
But anyway, yeah, definitely wanted to get it in with
JJ Smith. Anything else on that before we slide into
some super chats, Well.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
Yeah, no, just I think for you know, Ohio State
this year, it's it's it's I think that's gonna be
one of the big challenges for Brian Hartline is a
rookie play caller, is how do you feed JJ but
not overfeeding you know what I'm saying, Like, it's it's
finding that right balance right there, because you know, teams
want you to make up your mind pre snap, like
Will Howard did last year against Texas. I'm going to
(41:58):
throw the ball to JJ this time because I got
to get him involved, and they'll pick it off, you
know what I'm saying. Like so, it's it's an art
form to be able to work guys into an offense,
you know, in a in a subtle way, in a
in a controlled way. And you know, I'm not saying
I have concerns about Heartline's ability to do it, but
(42:19):
it's going to be a challenge. I mean, to make
no mistake, Brian's a first time play caller and this
is gonna be a big change for him. But you've
got a weapon like him. He's going to be here
two more years and then onto you know, can't Ohio
and the NFL Hall of Fame. But uh, you know
it's it's it's gonna be. I think that's gonna be
one of the great storylines of this year is how
(42:41):
does Ohio State use JJ without, you know, in the
flow of the offense. How do they keep it within
the flow of the office and not force it? And
that'll that that's going to be fascinating to me.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
Yes it is, and real quick, I think the thing
that's helpful Nevada is that for this big game, obviously,
Ryan Day is a is a really good offensive play caller.
He's not perfect, but nobody is, but he's one of
the best. And so the scripted plays so to speak,
(43:14):
or the scripted scheme or goal because I know things
can change on this on the fly depending on what
the defense is doing. I think that's going to be
really helpful for UH, for Brian Hartline is that they've
had all off season to prepare and script and Ryan
Day come together. Now it's another thing week to week,
you know, where I think there will be more pressure
(43:35):
on Heartline to take the reins more. But coming from
this this you know, summer and fall camp of being
able to collaborate with Ryan Day and all the offensive
coaches to really come out with a good plan for
Heartline to kind of bounce off of. I think that's
(43:55):
going to be very helpful to have Ryan Day and
his ear and all of that as well. So we're
gonna see though, We're gonna see it's it's It's one
thing to think that, it's another thing to see it
and so heartline, do you brother? We trust you, Ryan
Day trust you, and I just do. You've been here
for a long time, You've been under some great minds.
(44:15):
It's go time, brother, and we believe in you. You
just need to step up and do your thing, and
we believe you will. So let's go ahead and get
to some super chats. The Navy Buckeye thanks for the
one nine August thirtieth buck geys buy a billion. We
in the building with over one hundred thousand. I'm still
gonna try to get this song played in the shoot Nevada.
I'm going to what I'm gonna do. I'ma when I
(44:37):
get to the stadium, I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
Just go and hand them a CD, like get this
to the DJ, tell him to play.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
You can do, you can do like John John Cusack
can like say anything and you stand there with a
boom box over your head and just play it or
something like that, and it's kind of kind of that
iconic scene.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Yes, Yes, that's a good idea. Maybe I should do that. Yeah,
play my song.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
Listen, anybody out there who is I've been trying to
track down who the DJ is? All my like a
high state people I'm like, you know what, and I'm like,
I would think you would know.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
And I don't know. It's DJ Scatcat? Who d J scatcat?
Speaker 2 (45:19):
That?
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Are you serious?
Speaker 3 (45:21):
He was the one that was dancing with Paul Abdul
and the opposite to track or something like that.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Come on, pull out at cabs. Come on, there's some
people watching the show.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Don't even know who.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
Do Come on.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Paul was hot back then, man.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
Yeah, yes, she was on point. Paul Abdul was that
deal was I was not expecting that reference. All right,
I'm a google it and see if if it comes
up with a high state prof file. But if you
out there house dy DJ DJ Scatcat, get at me
so I can get you my you know the song?
Speaker 1 (46:09):
All right, Ravia to two. Thanks for the ten.
Speaker 2 (46:12):
Should we be concerned that Heartline has too much on
this plate to both be offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach?
Speaker 1 (46:19):
I mean, how many.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Other coordinators also have another row as wide receiver coach?
You want to start with that one?
Speaker 1 (46:24):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (46:24):
I can't think I'm not I'm not saying that there isn't,
but I don't know. I'm not aware of another offensive
coordinator there's also the wide receiver coach. So am I
concerned about it? I am concerned about it now in
this new world of unlimited on field coaches, assistants and
analysts and quality control of people. And I mean, you know,
(46:46):
it's a different day than it used to be where
you couldn't do on field instruction. You know, you had
to be one of the ten accountable. So I think
there's ways that they can kind of help out and
do with that. But it's something to be keep an
eye on. I think it's a it's a legitimate inquiry
and something that we're going to be keeping an eye on,
you know, carefully through the season. And like I said,
(47:07):
he gets a huge test of it right off the
bat with Texas. Good thing that's in the shoe the
friendly confines. But I think it's a legitimate area to
have questions about.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Yeah, and I'll just say this, I've said this before
a few times, don't sleep on Devin Jordan. Devin Jordan
is highly regarded in the whack. He's more involved than
you think he is in recruiting and in coaching. Okay,
so they really trust Brian Hartline, that's like his right
hand man. He trusts Devin Jordan and these kids love
(47:39):
them and respect them. So I think that's being overlooked
a little bit when it comes to Devin taking on
some of that responsibility and taking some weight off of
Heartline from being pulled back and forth. But ballgames is
how we find out how it really pans out. So
we're going to see very very soon. All right, chorus Washington,
(48:01):
thanks for being a scoop. All Trumember excited for this season?
Speaker 3 (48:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Like I said out before the show, I was talking
to Nevada and I was just telling, like, as a fan,
I'm like, man, I'm geeked, I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (48:14):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
I got Look, I got the homie Brian Fogel making
me the Buckeye chain, like a custom Buckeye chain. If
y'a don't know who Brian Fogel is, great guy, great fan.
He's the one who makes like the figurines and like
the stadiums and the for all the players, for the coaches,
stuff like that. If you see his face, you'll know
who he is. But he's gonna make me this dope
(48:37):
little custom chain to go with my Jay's and my
and my Buckeye shirt is you know what I'm saying, like,
I'm excited. I'm already getting ready, man to walk up
in the shoot extra clean when you see me, Nevada.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
Yeah, well, I've got like I'm going to be like,
you know, like like kid Rock at Woodstock nineteen ninety nine,
and we're like the big white fur coat in the
hat and stuff like that kind of come come walking
out there, and so you know, I'm just I'm ready
as well. So we'll we'll look like quite the pair
going up.
Speaker 6 (49:08):
Man, that is funny. Another old school reference. If I
was pulling left the old school. But first of all,
it's probably gonna be it's probably gonna be ninety eight
degrees outside. My god, I can just picture just buckets
of sweat. You know, you you look.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Cool exactly exactly I'm looking. I may heat. Prospiration may
get me. If it does, throw some water on me
and drag me into the sleet their beef. That's I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (49:39):
Like, like somebody get an IV over here.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
Let's just let's just get a pick first when we
get there, get a quick pick of us looking cool
together and take.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
That mess off. Oh man, that is funny. Ernie Gonzalez,
thanks for the one comments. That's cool.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
I a pre brother, Thanks so much. All right, chorus,
thanks for the four ninety nine. I'm excited for this year.
No one has all the offensive threats we have, Oh nevada,
I oh not at all.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
Man, not at all.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
And it's just exciting adding Max Clair to this room. Yes,
to me, that's that's it right there. That that is
the overwhelming, like, oh my god, like this is this
is going to get really ugly for defenses because again
we've been banging this drum for months about Max Claire.
I hope y'all are are, like you know, I guess
(50:36):
convinced because this kid is really really good, like first round,
late first round, early second round good, and we're gonna
see that he's another big receiver out there, y'all. It's
just it's it's amazing the offensive weapons we have and
like we said saying, keep him up right, if our
(50:57):
O line can protect, which I believe they'll be able to,
it's going to be a party for offense.
Speaker 3 (51:01):
What you've gotten about it, Yeah, I'm glad you went
right to it. I mean, spot on, Max player is
the X factor. He's the thing that makes this thing go.
And you can have all the other pieces, but you
know when you add an elite tight end into the mix,
which is something we just never had, I rarely, rarely ever.
I mean John Frank yes, Ricky Dell, yes, but I
(51:21):
mean not in recent years, we haven't had a guy
like this. And he is absolutely a field switcher and
a guy that really is gonna give defenses proms because
if you're if you are playing that cloud coverage, you know,
if you're playing that Tampa two the week spot on,
that is right down the middle, and that's where he
makes us living, right down the scene. Man, He's a
(51:44):
guy that can do it. So I'm excited to see that.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
Absolutely all right, Mike Green's good.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
Thanks for the four ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
I'm gonna be honest, Bemo, I'm doubting day will give
heart the fool.
Speaker 7 (51:58):
Play Carly right, it's what the Texas game. He's a
madiac with play carly lef out loud. We'll see Listen. Honestly, Mike,
I could care less. Just win, baby, I don't care.
I do not care.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
If you're right and we win, fine, just beat Texas.
And so that's how I feel about it. I ain't
got to say no more about it. What you got
on ass?
Speaker 3 (52:22):
Yeah, I mean I hope that's the case. I mean,
I hope that he's actively, actively involved, because I think
it'd be malpracticed just to throw him out there for
his first game and have it be against Texas. I mean,
if it's Mercer, or if it's Texas with another name
on it, like Texas Southern Wesleyan University or something like that,
then I go with that one, but not against the Texas. No,
(52:44):
help him out, Help him out.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Ryan, Yeah, and yeah, exactly, you got a master play
caller with all that experience in the NFL in college, like,
there's no shame in you know, at least maybe for
the first series, you.
Speaker 1 (52:56):
Know, like a little collaborative effort.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
There's no shame in that. And so to me, you
fire all your bullets like that makes sense. So but anyway, again,
just when, just when, all right, Sean Rollins, thanks for
being a scoop ULTR member for twenty months. Right behind you,
krus So, he's just a manning you about the excitement
(53:21):
and about the offensive weapons, man, and real quick, and
we're gonna wrap up here. You mentioned Turbo Rogers. He
was in my notes of someone who jumped out at
me and so Nevada. I'm hoping they have some type
of wrinkle for him because his speed and explosiveness, and
I know he's little, but his little is more short,
and I know you're not saying he's like tiny. I'm
(53:41):
just clarifying for the audience. This kid looks good physically.
He's not a tall guy. He's a short, you know,
quick cut, bursty guy, but he's ripped up for a freshman,
and so he's definitely he looks the part to get
out there and play in spots.
Speaker 1 (53:57):
We're not saying we expect.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Tober Rodgers to go out there and be the third
back and get five carries.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
It's not what we're saying.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
We're saying that look out for him because he's fighting
for playing time, because he's he's been popping a little bit,
and so with his speed and his skill set that
we really don't have on this roster, like that look
out is basically what we're saying.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Anything on that, yeah, no, I think you know, whether
it be the return game or some of the gadget
stuff that they've been doing. On anything the offense. I
really think I think he's a guy that they they
want to give a shot. They want to give him
a couple of touches, see what he can do, because
he does bring a different element to the team. And
I agree with you. He's not small. He's just he's short,
but he's jacked up and he can really pick him
(54:39):
up and put it down. Then he can go.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
Yep and real quick, funky text me.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
He said, make sure you say on the show, Jaylen
McClain being a low level three star who's probably going
to start as a true sophomore over top sixty recruits.
Just a reminder that, you know, just saying development and
you never know.
Speaker 1 (54:57):
But anyway, I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
I've been big McClean fan for a while, so and listen,
I love Hertford two. I'm just excited about this team,
and you know, I think they're going to really perform
well in the shoe against Texas, and I'm excited. Anyway,
We're gonna go ahead and hop off man, we're gonna
be back tomorrow. Great show, fun show. We are getting
(55:20):
so much closer. I gotta think of who my number
twelve is. It's a lot of number twelves. I gotta
think about that overnight for tomorrow, but it's gonna be
dope regardless. All right, y'all, buck our school family, we
love y'all, Buck, our nation.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
We out peace. Hello, Buck Eye, Scoop family, and everyone
(01:00:44):
watching on a Friday, not the happiest of fridays, sad
day for college football in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
We're going to get into that, but first you're watching
this video, please like the video, subscribe if you haven't
already done that, get that out the way. Also, we
got fifteen Ezekiel Elliott days until the kickoff in the
Shoe versus Texas. Had to go with my guy, Ezekiel Elliott,
(01:01:14):
one of the greatest running backs in o High state history.
If you disagree so what, it's true. He's very very good.
But anyway, make sure you also understand that the super
chats go to our pay it Forward military first responders.
We're gonna give back to them because they give back
to us that we're gonna take.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Care of them because they take care of us. You know,
the drill.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
We're gonna get right into it. We understand what today was.
It was a disappointing, very sad day in my opinion
for college football, college football fans, college football teams.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
I just I feel very sad for.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Buck our Nation, Penn State, Tennessee, Clemson, anybody affected by
this scandal, the coaches who were upset about this, the
integrity of the game, all of that. Like, this is
an al today for the entirety of college football. And
(01:02:20):
as you go through your timeline you can scroll through,
it's not just Buckeye fans and Michigan State fans.
Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
It's media of all types.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
Scrolling through my YouTube, I see Oklahoma fans, I'm seeing
Oregon fans, I'm seeing like all types of fans going
in on this decision by the NCUBA to basically not
do their job, to not abide by their own rules,
their own bylaws, and so super disappointing. So I really
(01:02:49):
feel bad for college football fans in general, not just
Buckeye fans. Obviously that's our rival, and we know they
cheated in the nc DOUBLEA spelled it out for everyone
to see that they cheated, but didn't do their job,
and so that's super frustrating and super disappointing for all
of college football because this this is a whole, this
(01:03:11):
is a revelation to everyone that it's a whole new
world of basically no rules. It doesn't matter what you do.
You can just if you got the bread, you can
pay for it and be done. And that's a sad,
sad day in college football. So we're gonna talk about it.
I'm gonna bring in, of course, Nevada Buck and we
(01:03:33):
got intrinsic joining us fellas, how y'all doing on this
on this tough, disappointing day in college football with this scandal.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
Intrinsic I'll I'll let you go first.
Speaker 8 (01:03:47):
Yeah, I mean, it's obviously a terrible decision and an
exception that they made for Michigan, which didn't even tell
you in the report. I mean, the report reads exactly
like the FA to monitor case that I was pushing.
So like, intellectually, I feel like I'm vindicated because they
got the level one aggravated failure to monitor, But realistically
(01:04:10):
it's upsetting that they didn't get what they deserve. So
it's it's mixed feelings and I where are the sports
going now? And there's even arc on this, there's gonna
be just it's gonna be cheating moving forward, like you
have to cheat basically that they called it a new
era cheating and Cole auerback posted a thing on that,
(01:04:31):
so we'll we'll see it's a complete mess. But I
think as far as uh, they were asking for a
postseason band, Ross Dollinger confirmed that that's what broke down negotiations.
So I think you're pointing the right way just to
Cey really let up on this one.
Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Yeah, Neveda.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Yeah. Now it's it's like it's been a it's it's
been a really confusing day because you know, this started
for me, this whole journey started when I got reached
out to by someone at the n c double A,
some of the nca ALA enforcement side, talking about this,
you know, this case, and you know what he felt
(01:05:16):
the case was, he felt the case was presenting, how
he felt the case was being received. And we've been
following this thing for darn near almost two years now,
and I feel, you know, it's a it's a weird
feeling because you feel like there were so many aspects
(01:05:36):
of this that were spot on and and but but
then but then everything at the end kind of goes
off the track and it's, uh, it's just it's just disappointing.
It's it's disappointing. And I always like to do a
regression analysis when something ends up not the way that
I thought it was gonna end up, and try to
(01:05:56):
figure out the wise And on this one is just
weird because if you go through and you read the
seventy three page I think a seventy three page decision
today like I like I did several times, if you
don't know the end point and you just read it,
you read it and you think, oh my gosh, this
is exactly what we said was going to happen. And
(01:06:19):
but then at the end, you know, uh, you know,
we ended up with a decision by the COI where
they actually state in in the document that a postseason
ban is required in this get required. They don't say suggested,
they don't say president, they don't they say they lack
say a postseason ban is required in this case. But
(01:06:44):
then they they just all of a sudden decide that
in lieu of a postseason ban, they're going to go
with lack of tele television revenues for those two years,
so it would have been a two year postseason ban.
And they took a comment by the incidity a suggestion
(01:07:05):
guideline directive whatever. From the end, I'm not trying to
character by the NCAA about trying to avoid postseason bands,
And they just ignored the second part of that, which
was that was for exemplary equalation. They were trying to say,
let's not give these postseason bands in cases where there's
exemplary cooperation. And they just left that part out because
(01:07:26):
if you tell me Michigan's going to get found guilty
of a level one institutional charge repeat offender. And if
you remember when we were talking, we had the entire
case on is Michigan a repeat offender? Because that was
a real point of contention with a lot of really
smart people. A lot of smart people were on both
sides of this issue. You did it qualify as a
repeat defender? Did it not qualify as repeat defender? And
(01:07:46):
I've been told consistently by my NCAA source that it
was they were considered a repeat defender, but they get
hit with a Level one failure to monitor aggravated repeat
offender and that there isn't a postseason ban. I would
have told you that you were absolutely crazy. I would
have I was willing to make bets up to the
(01:08:09):
up to the near the very end of this thing.
If I knew that set of facts, I would have
bet everything. I would have bet, I would have bet
at all. I would have pushed all the chips in
on that one. NAT lost because I had not anticipated
that there was even a scenario where the inn citable
that where a COI would not follow the statutes, would
(01:08:30):
just just ignore the statutes for a level to one
aggravated charges, one to three year postings ban. That's in writing,
that's not it's not a suggestion, that is it. And
they just completely deviated from that and went with something else.
And to say that I was shocked and disappointed and
stunned by it wasn't this. But you know, and I
(01:08:52):
know this isn't gonna this is gonna whatever with people.
But I'm proud of the work that we did on
this case. I'm proud of the research we did. I'm
proud of the facts that we presented on this. I
feel like there was so much of this that we
got right. And like I said, had I known, and
I had I known that they were going to get
(01:09:12):
hit with that, I would feel one hundred percent confident
in every conclusion that we made regarding the punishments because
there's never been a failure to monitor aggravated case levied
without a postingason band ever.
Speaker 1 (01:09:25):
Yep, it's crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
So this was craziness. That's where we're at. So that
was a long answer to a short question of how
I'm doing today. But that's that's how I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Yeah, I'm glad you hit on that because I was
going to mention that and I'm gonna repeat that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
Do y'all understand what this man just said.
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
For a failure to monitor aggravate it, There's never been
a situation where there hasn't been a postseason band that
comes along with that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
Just just let that sink in.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:09:59):
So yeah, man, this this again.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
I'm I feel bad, Like I said, I feel bad
for fans. I feel bad for the Buckeye fans that
you know, believed that the NC Double A would follow
through with what they started from the very beginning. Again,
from that uh, that letter that will go down and
infamy from Tony Pettiti, the original Scorched Earth letter with
(01:10:30):
him in the n C Double A and the super
strong verbiage and all of that. You know that got
us going. I got other people going and of course
kind of starting from the sideline of Central Michigan, them
obstructing and deleting and everything else. It's all laid out
in the report. We knew this, but it was just
(01:10:50):
confirmed in more detail. If there was ever a case
that deserved the hammer, it was this one. And like
I said, I like Nevadas it now I know, I
sympathize with the with the fans who are just sad
and upset, because you should be. This is this is
this was an injustice today that we're that we suffered.
(01:11:11):
Not just Buckeye fans, are sparty fans or rival fans,
all of college football. I mentioned Tennessee in the beginning
talk to Sports Talk Jay earlier, he was beside himself upset.
He you know, he's not directly affected as much as
we are, but he's his team. He believes his team
was directly affected.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
And so this is all of college football and media.
Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
That's lashing out against this because they can clearly see
the injustice.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Okay, but.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
Again I sympathize with those who are upset with this
not working out the way it should have worked out.
Speaker 1 (01:11:50):
But also, like Nevada.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Said, from from our standpoint, imagine the disappointment. Like we
put like we keep telling, we put in real work,
and the fact that it was so crazy and really
messes with my mind, is that all the work we
put in to figure out, you know what, we got
this nailed failure to monitor aggravated.
Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
This has to be it.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
And like Nevada said before we hopped on, he was
thinking when we first seen the light sanctions, before the
actual report came out, we were like, hold on, did
we miss this? Was it failure to monitor, mitigated or standard?
And we just missed it? And then okay, if we
missed it, then we missed it. But we didn't miss it.
We actually nailed it on the head as far as
what it was. And then the repeat of fender status
(01:12:35):
on top of that, which to me, I would have
been fine without that because the penalty still called for
a bowband. So the fact that we hit it on
the head through all this research, man, we actually got
it right. And then they didn't get the They didn't
follow through with the required sanction, not to suggest it,
not to debate it, but the required sanction. And then
(01:12:58):
they tell you this requires a two year bowl band
on the thing. And then they say oh, well, because
of the current kids, we're not going to do it.
It's like study and study and study and studying for
an exam and you get all the questions right or
most of the questions right to get a really really
good grade, and then you and then you don't.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
You fail.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
That's kind of how that feels from our standpoint. And
so I resent the notion you know of someone would say, oh, Buck,
I scoop lied to you. They lied to you about
their hammer. We didn't lie to anybody. This was an injustice.
Look at it. It's all in the report. I mean,
the media members, they're picking it apart. College football nerds
(01:13:42):
go look at their Twitter. They're sec guys. They don't
hate Michigan. They have an invested interest in Michigan fans
following their page. And that's why they always say this
is not an anti Michigan message. They always give that
little disclaimer. They don't want to lose Michigan fans. But
I love their integrity because they were in today, and
we're gonna touch on that a little bit. But again,
(01:14:03):
this is not just the Buckeye thing. Real college football
fans who understand what this is understand this is an
injustice and it's just the n c double A man.
They they they put their self up for foreclosure.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Today they're done.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
And Nevada said, we said this last night like this
is the end of them as an enforcement arm.
Speaker 1 (01:14:24):
If they if they screwed us up.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
I mean they literally had everything teed up perfectly, I
mean everything, and they.
Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
Just they just blew it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
They just decided to not We're not gonna We're not
gonna provide.
Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
Justice for this.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
So yes, I'm very very disappointed. College football deserved more, buck,
our nation deserved more. Uh, we all deserved more than this.
And so yeah, I mean that, you know, that's it.
We'll we'll go ahead and cover some things about this
specifically because again, we spent a lot of time to
(01:15:00):
try to get this right, and we got it right
and still end up getting screwed in the end because
the NCUBLEA. So anyway, fellas anybody got anything on that.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
Yeah, So yeah, I just wanted.
Speaker 8 (01:15:13):
To say, this is a technical point, right, because they
basically got off on the postseason band because they said
they didn't want to punish current like future players. So
here's something from one of my NCUBLEA sources. They were like,
what's the effic point of having bands at all? If
they didn't want bands, then they when they issued the
(01:15:33):
Constitution amended, then they should have taken those out altogether
as a penalty. So when they had these the new
bylaws for their updated year, they addressed the differences between
current players and not punishing them but keeping postseason bands in.
So when I was looking at this for being a
postseason band, I understood the current players they lean towards
(01:15:56):
not doing that, but they have it in their constitution
that's updated that that's for exemplary cooperation. If you don't
do that, you're getting a postseason ban. And the COI
tells you that, They tell you this is supposed to
be a postseason ban. So they went against their own
bylaws and just one point of separation, this was the
Committee on Infractions decision. The NC double A is upset
(01:16:21):
upset with these guys, the NC Double A while they
demanded a postseason ban from Michigan. Ross Dollinger the sharpest
reporter on this thing. He literally says that was why
negotiations broke down and why this went to the committee
in the first place. So the committee went rogue. They
literally went rogue and deviated from the bylaws. So I
(01:16:42):
found that very strange and also a very strange point.
And I'm sure we'll get into this here in a minute.
But they said that it's only for an eligible players
to their vacate games. The college football nerds nailed that
it literally, and so one of them said the ineligible
player is the only way to vacate. Shows the stupidity
(01:17:02):
of this group. Are they bipolar? Because it literally it's
not the only way. It's in their bilaws. It's for
additional penalties too. They have flexibility in there. So I
don't know what the COI if they just couldn't interpret
the bylaws, which maybe or this is something else happened
with this, because they did not follow the letter of
(01:17:23):
the law in this punishment.
Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
So well, they didn't even follow It's not even I
mean for me, you know, and I don't want to
mince words, but they didn't. It's not even the letter
of the law. They didn't even follow like the law,
you know what I'm saying, Like this wasn't a fine point,
this is like this is required me. When can you
read that? You know? This for me? Just because I
don't have the thing in front of me, and my
(01:17:47):
eyes aren't as nimble and as good as your young ones.
But it I mean that one cent where it says
a postseason band is required in this case? Am I
am I misquoting that in any way?
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
No, I got to find it.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
I don't have it up.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
I got to the college football nerds up. Can we
get back to that. I'm gonna try to find Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
I want to say it's on page thirty seven or
something like that, but you know whatever, But no, this
this look, the press conference, everything was just full of
these contradictions. They were talking about vacating games, and one
of the persons said, well, yeah, vacating games was not
within our purview. It's not it's not a lot. It's
only allowed in the case of the the inelible players.
(01:18:29):
And then another person said, well, no, it was just
that we didn't have the sufficient evidence to support a
charge of vacating wins. You know what I'm saying, which
are saying two very very different things, because they kind
of dealt with this in the in the COO and
in the decision as it were, because they talked about
(01:18:49):
the lack of cooperation. How Connor Stallions had bragged to
an intern how he'd broken his phone into a thousand
pieces and thrown it to the bottom of a lake
or some like that, and that along with all the
film and all stuff like that. And so because they
lacked the end they did, because they didn't have Connor
Stallion's phone mirrored, because they didn't have Jim Harbaugh's phone
(01:19:12):
or or access to his emails, that they didn't have
sufficient evidence to rear it the charge on the on
the vacated wins. But it's like, what type of message
is that? So the message is if you don't provide
the evidence, then they don't have the evidence to level
the charge. I mean, is that the way intrinsic and
be Is that the way that you guys read that,
because that's how.
Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
I saw that. Trazy.
Speaker 8 (01:19:36):
Yeah, So I just seen them as I don't think
they even wanted to get into vacating games. A lot
of the report they mentioned it, A lot of stuff
they mentioned was from the Big ten letter. They said
the goal was to gain a competitive advantage, and likely
a competitive advantage was gained. But then they kind of
were like, yeah, we couldn't gather all the evidence too,
(01:19:57):
because it's smashed into ten thousand pieces in the bottom
of a and so it's just it's just ridiculous to me.
I don't think they wanted to make a controversial decision.
I think they literally I mean, but they made a
controversial decision on the postseason band. So I don't understand.
Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
What they did.
Speaker 8 (01:20:15):
It's almost like they just wanted to back off from
this thing completely. They every interpretation they went with, they
went and deviated to favor Michigan. So, I mean, the
goal of this whole thing was to gain a competitive advantage,
and a lot of the links that they went to,
it's they had fifty six instances of this guy doing it,
(01:20:37):
and and you have. And also another key point that
we learned today is shrewing more. You know, he didn't
delete Texas out of anger, he said, he literally admits
to the reason he deletes it is because Stalleian came out.
So any common sense, they don't have subpoena power. They
can't put them under oath, right, they can't get they
couldn't get any their personal phones. They're supposed to turn
(01:20:58):
into personal phones, they.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
Didn't, So.
Speaker 8 (01:21:01):
They don't have the means like to get in there
and prove that other people knew, but clearly Searon Moore
knew because he wanted to delete everything.
Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
No, no, no, intrinsic, intrinsic. I want to correct you.
He said he he deleted him because he was just
clearing space in his phone, remember heart.
Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
Oh yeah he didn't say that.
Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
That's actually in there. Yeah he did say that.
Speaker 9 (01:21:23):
So it's like, oh, he went with the I was
clearing space in the phone, honey, and then and then
he went with the and then he changed it at
that So like, so he lied.
Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
So I mean, can we all say agreed that he
lied to the n C double A. So Sean Moore,
who was a repeat offender, I thinking lied to the
NCY double A about why he deleted the text on
his phone.
Speaker 8 (01:21:44):
And he gets to pick his games.
Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
He gets to pick his games, but he doesn't have
the honor of being And I believe this is correct.
I believe he's the only active Division one head coach
that's under a show cause right now.
Speaker 8 (01:21:56):
That's correct. But even even the show cause, like there's
every show causes they can give them. From my understanding,
the show cause they gave him basically, he just has
to check in one year and he's on probation, he's
got to check in, he's got to go to this
like conference once a year.
Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
Well, no again, I think you're miss you're misstating it.
They're intrinsic. I think this one is, Hey, if you
screw up one more time, man, you're really, really, really
gonna get it this time. Oh he's on this she's
on that program now.
Speaker 8 (01:22:23):
So I will say one one funny thing is to
every single recruit now they have to send like a
pamphlet of all the things they did wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
Did you did you catch that? Yeah, they have to
put a public disclosure on their things and they have
to disclo I mean, it's all silliness, don't They'll make it.
It's silly joke out of it, and you know, they'll
they'll kind of go, you know, all this stuff, and
you know, the it's it's really just kind of one
of those things where you know, I think for Michigan,
(01:22:57):
for as a as a Michigan fan. Again, I always
put it on the other foot of this was Ohio State. Man,
I would be disgusted. This is this is one of
the most disgusting sagas that I've ever You read this thing,
take the time I know you guys, take the time
to kind of come onto the show, watch the show,
listen to the show, take the time and go through
(01:23:17):
the decision is online. You could educate yourself. Just take
a little. It takes a little. Yeah, it is seventy
three pages a lot of words, but take your time
and read the stuff and read the relevant passages and
then kind of draw your own conclusions about this. This
is a really, really sordid tale. I mean, such such
an embarrassment informission. So many things in there about Connor stallions,
(01:23:40):
about the the idea though too that counter stallions is
still going with the Well, they just didn't act. They
just it was kind of like a don't ask, don't
tell on how you got the signals and stuff like that.
Wink wink, and you know, none, none of it's believable.
They didn't even say they believed mi. I thought that
this case was going to be about exoneration. I thought
(01:24:01):
this case was going to be if we got it wrong,
it was going to be because they believed some of
the arguments. They bought into some of the discussion. They
believed some of the witnesses there were mitigators or aggravators
that we overvalue or undervalued as appropriate, and none of
that happened. They didn't believe any of this, They didn't
accept any of the Michigan arguments, and they it's like
(01:24:24):
they got it right all the way to the very
end and then just decided to not do the required punishment.
And I have not spoken to my instaateable a guy.
I have to imagine he's apoplectic. I just I mean,
for those guys that worked as long and hard as
they've done this case, and they have them just completely
(01:24:46):
disregard what the required punishment to keep in mind, that's
the way the word is required punishment, not suggested, not
guide its.
Speaker 8 (01:24:58):
Shall it's as shall be. Yeah, that's what it says, j'all.
B So it's the core penalties for it. And understand,
this is such a serious charge. I believe there's only
been two level one aggravateds maybe three in the whole
history of the Yes, So this is literally such a
rare and egregious case by Michigan. I mean, you literally
(01:25:23):
have stories in there. And hats off to this lady
who's like the head of compliance at Michigan. She is
chasing down stallions in the in the Hallway trying to
get his phone, and he like, she goes into great
lengths about how the culture at Michigan was the break
rules and they did not allow her to do her
job to stop or find any of this. So I
(01:25:48):
had wondered, like if the compliance department had turned a
blind eye. No, Michigan did not empower her at all,
And moving forward, the real thing that is indisputable moving forward,
there's compliance departments are going to ramp down completely. If
Ohio State right now is like I've heard, Ohio State
(01:26:08):
ever since the tattoo gate has been really hard on compliance,
like over the top. That's completely unnecessary because the penalties
moving forward that are meaningful are all on the involved
individuals who violate. So if your compliance department, you might
as well step back and say, well, it's on you.
If you get in trouble, you get caught, and you
can face the suspension and show cause or whatnot, but
(01:26:31):
we're not going to hold the institution accountable anymore. NCAD
enforcement just literally cut it off. And so I'd be
interested in to that. And when you do talk to
your nc double a guy, because I've talked to two
different ones and they're all upset. They are one hundred
percent upset. They do not understand why they deviated from
the laws. So and I would imagine the nc double
(01:26:54):
A that was demanding a postseason ban in negotiations. It's
pretty upset too.
Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
Well. In fact, I mean, we talked about this earlier,
but like I mean, do we all agree that a
postseason ban has just completely been washed off the books
as a potential and they did that for this case.
Speaker 8 (01:27:17):
Like I understand, this case now says the precedent, they
cannot postseason ban any other school because that schoolill point
to this case and they will say, look at they
had the most egregious one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:26):
They didn't get it.
Speaker 8 (01:27:27):
So yeah, they're done. UNCAA is done with postings band
so they don't have any meaningful penalties on schools institutions anymore.
So what's the same for college football though?
Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
Because but but but it's crazy because like you, like
you said, you know, they they they had the opportunity
to amend the constitution and outlaw the postseason ban or
something because they they cite the changing environment in college
football here that kind of occurred in the middle of
this case. And it's like they could have there's a
(01:27:58):
million different ways. I could have a dressed this and said, hey, look,
you know we're just taking the postseason ban. It's two draconian,
we don't feel, you know, serve up the riggers of
the law. Whatever. But they didn't do that. They didn't
do that, And so anybody who's ever received a postseason man,
including Ohio State in the past, has just got to
be going, what in the world is going on here?
(01:28:21):
You got screwed.
Speaker 8 (01:28:22):
So tell you guys, Ohio State got.
Speaker 3 (01:28:25):
Cost us the national championship. Yeah. Well he was twelve
and all that year that we played, we'd have played,
we'd have played monte Teo and his girlfriend and in
the in the championship game.
Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
Yeah, so let's let me let me jump in here
a couple of things to say. I got some stuff
on the scream. I'm gonna touch on stallions in a second,
but I'm glad you said that. I was talking to
Jordan Hall, you know, former Ohio State player running back
slash kick returner, Jordan Hall, great kid, and.
Speaker 1 (01:29:01):
He was talking about it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
He was saying, yo, like they better get something because
they did us dirty, basically, and I was like, yeah,
I was like, you know this this is way worse
that it looks like they're facing the failure to monitor aggravated.
That's what we concluded looking at the bylaws, and we
were correct, and obviously we know what happened. But I
was gonna say, I mean, I feel terrible for Braxton Miller, Carlos.
Speaker 1 (01:29:26):
Hide, Ryan Chazeer. I mean, I can go on on
and on, Zach Bourne, you out there.
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
I feel terrible for them because they got punished for,
you know, stuff that was obviously dumb, like trading your
own stuff that you own for tattoos. They got basically smashed.
They couldn't fulfill, you know, what they wanted to do
(01:29:57):
in the field by winning a championship, possibly because of
the actions of a few former players. So it's just like,
it's just it's it's terrible, and like I said, there's
so many different examples you can point to. It's just like, man,
this is the injustice of all injustices when it comes
to NCAA stuff. It's absolutely terrible. And so looking at
(01:30:19):
the screen right now, this is Tony Gertman, this is
Connor Stallions. And then after this, when I play a
clip from Pat forty, it's about forty seconds. It says, specifically,
Stallions told student athlete one again, this is from the report. Again,
if you just stick to that story, you're good. Whatever
you say is your story, and that's going to be
with I'm sorry, that's going to be what the truth is.
(01:30:41):
This is also not the court of law. You can
technically lie your a double s off. Okay, way to go, Connor.
That's Connor Stallions. Let me play this clip from Pat forty.
Speaker 4 (01:30:56):
Reading. You know, if you read the case, pretty interesting reading.
Connor Staions. What a devious dude. Holy moly, this guy
he had quite the scheme. Very melodramatic too, you know,
call him in the KGB. His people that he sent
out to collect dirty film on opponents' signals. Doesn't sound
to me like, oh, this was all do we weren't
(01:31:17):
even trying to get a competitive advantage, does it. But
in the end, Conner Steians could do what people do
in his spot, destroy evidence, withhold evidence, and then just
get out of the game. Jim Harbaugh could do what
he could do. I'm going pro I'm getting out of there,
and then the NCL isn say, well, we're not going
to punish the players that weren't around, So just give
(01:31:38):
us some money and we'll call it a day. So
do you have it?
Speaker 2 (01:31:43):
Pretty good summary there by Pat forty. But yeah, like
Nevada said, y'all, you know, I mean, maybe you don't.
Maybe you're over it, and that's fine, I get it.
But if you want to get a true understanding of
really the fullness of an understanding of this whole case,
you got to read it. And one thing that I
am not going to allow to happen as a content creator,
(01:32:06):
as a as a leader amongst fans is that what perplexes.
Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
Me for some of these people, some of these fans,
is that Michigan fans. It's a couple things.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Michigan fans are taking victory laps because they didn't get
what they deserved in a massive cheating scandal to gain
a competitive vantage on the field. You are guilty this report.
We knew you were guilty before, but this report lays
it out that you're guilty. The NCAA tells you they
have overwhelming evidence that you're guilty. They just decided not
(01:32:43):
to punish you for that guilt. That's the problem here,
that's the problem. But you're celebrating the fact that you
didn't get hit as hard for obviously cheating. That twenty
one through twenty three window is a farce. I would
never respect it. Real fans would never respect it. It
is fraudulent, it will ever forever be fraudulent.
Speaker 1 (01:33:07):
Period. That's the truth.
Speaker 2 (01:33:08):
Anybody else who comes with a different conclusion, you bugging.
So that's one thing I'm gonna continue to remind Michigan
fans of. The Other thing is, listen, I'm not gonna
go too hard on like you know, some Buckeye fans,
because this was a huge disappointment, But don't let this.
(01:33:29):
Don't let the fact that Michigan cheated slip away, like
they can't. If this was Ohio State, we would hear
about this forever. It's almost like this very little backlash
outside of the media and college football fans and nerds
are like people who care who you know, are like
we care and we're sharp and have high IQs.
Speaker 1 (01:33:50):
Other than that, it's it's just like.
Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
Do you understand that read the report. The egregiousness of
this with Michigan cheating, that cannot slip away. They need
to be held accountable in some ways. The n C
double A is not gonna do it. College football needs
to do it. So that's all I'll say for now.
Uh Nevada.
Speaker 3 (01:34:13):
Well, yeah, I mean it's just I mean, it's it's
it's a it's a really sordid tale. I mean, you
read this thing and you know it's a it's a
tale of a football program out of control, completely you know,
just defiant of compliant. You know, compliance was completely ineffective
because the culture was so bad that there was nothing
(01:34:33):
that they could do. They actually, you know, they talk
about this in the in the decision how you know,
how compliance was helpless to the whims of the of
the football team. And I can't even imagine how that
thing was operating and why. I can't imagine how that
whole thing is going. What what what's hard to kind
of get by is, like I said, when you read everything,
(01:34:58):
you just can't believe that the punishments were what they
were because it just reads like a just like a
terrible novel of this. You know, this is the program,
and you know it's all been discovered, it's all being uncovered.
They've all got it kind of laid out. You know,
there's all these things and like I said, I want
(01:35:18):
to be correct, it wasn't. In my view, it wasn't
the nc DOUBLEA that did it. It was this specific CI,
this specific jury did not It's not even get it right.
They didn't even they didn't follow the law. They didn't
follow the statutes, they didn't follow the required punishments on
the thame. They literally just went rogue and made up
(01:35:40):
their own thing, and they had their own interpretation of
the of the rules. They had different ing the interpretations
of the rules regarding vacated wins. They contradict themselves several times.
They misapply the n CA direction regarding not punishing future Look,
by definition, college football, it's not going to be the
(01:36:02):
same kids every year. There's no team in the world,
I don't care what team at the pro level, at
whatever level, namely a team where it's exactly the same
kids or players the next year as it was the
year before. There's always turnover in college football. It's it's
one of the hallmarks of college football is that you
turn over thirty percent of your team every year. So
(01:36:24):
of course it's not going to be the same kids.
And when you when you have an investigation that lasts
two years, you're going to turn over sixty percent of
the thing. That shouldn't be the point. That the point
should be the punishment should be meaningful, and that to
create a deterrent to create somebody what's the deterrent here.
It's not a deterrent. It's an absolute encouragement to disband
(01:36:48):
or defund your compliance department. And you know by the
way that they said it, and this was brought up
in Nicole our back thing bless Or Art the Michigan
Grand you could bribe the officials. You could, there could
be a case for you bribe the officials, and according
to their technical reading, that would not involve the vacated
(01:37:10):
of the game because it didn't involve an eligible player.
You could hack helmet communications and hear the play that's
coming in next day, but that would involve it. So
it's just it's a ridiculous notion that that one guy
was spouting during the U during the thing. Like I said,
I really don't think that he even really had an
understanding of the rules. And I don't know if that
(01:37:32):
was intentional. I don't know if that was just duplicity.
I'm not sure where that was coming from. But it
was odd. It was odd, but you know, the oddest
thing of the whole thing was a jury just not
following the required sanctions that follow the thing. They're not
(01:37:52):
supposed to make up new law. They're not supposed to.
They even mentioned in there we suggest the ncuble that
you've changed your stuff, and like you've vote this and changes.
It's like, that's not your place, that's not your place
to decide policy for things. And you just decided when
you're saying your decided to look at the stuff, you know,
interpret where they fall on the spectrum, and then apply
(01:38:13):
the law. And they could pick between a one year
and a two year and a three year they get
some you know, some stuff that but just to make
up new law, to make up new penal, new penalty matrix.
I just I'll never get over that. I'll never understand it.
And I think these people should be held to account
for it because I think I think they killed the
nc double A today and I think they hurt college
(01:38:34):
football badly with what they did, and I think it's
it's unconscionable that they get away with it, and I
think it's I think it's terrible terrinsic.
Speaker 1 (01:38:43):
You got someone I know you haven't spoken a minute.
Speaker 8 (01:38:46):
Yeah, I mean understand when they amended this stuff into
the constitution. The NC double A is empowered by the
member institutions to agree to be a part of the
NC double A. And there's a process for how these
laws go in and it's it's a done by a
year by year basis. So for this narrative that people
are going is that, well, this is the way it
(01:39:07):
was moving and that's how it was. Well, the school
didn't agree with that because they're part of a mending
that into existence.
Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
So
