Speaker 1 (00:02):
What's going on? Everybody? And welcome back to another episode
of the Challenge Fanatics podcast. My name is Josh Green.
We are here to break down episode fourteen of the
Challenge forty bat Old the Eras. You can find us
on all social media platforms at Challenge fan Pod Episode
fourteen Swinging Era And we are starting off this episode
(00:29):
with twelve people left in the game, just getting closer
and closer to this final here on the Iconic fortye season.
We come back and start this episode with Michelle being
on one hand, happy that she's still in the game
(00:50):
and got to name the targets for this upcoming cycle.
On the other hand, she's very upset that she's sent
home her best friend and her closest ally in the game.
Tough spot for Michelle, you know, definitely has been going
through the ringer on a Battle of the Eras, but
(01:10):
she's been having that main character energy all season. Really
has taken this thing by the horns in my opinion,
and it's been a lot of fun to see, you know.
We we see the flashback of like Johnny talking about
how Michelle's strategic moves, you know, having been having been
(01:34):
the best of this season and I really don't think
there's much validity to that, But there is this idea that,
like all the time for Michelle on these shows, when
she gets knocked down, she gets back up and she
(01:54):
keeps her moving, and that's what she's been doing here.
The Angels were disappointed. They wanted Josh to put more
of a fight up with Michelle for not being a target.
I don't know how they thought that this could have
went differently. You know, if Jordan didn't win the Daily,
(02:18):
then yeah, could have been different. It could have been
Jordan's bananas and Corey right, and Josh would have been safe.
But you know what happened happened here, and Jordan wins
(02:38):
the Daily, and now in this individual game, if you
win a daily, it is huge for your game because
not only are you helping make the decision for the
other gender, but you're safe going into the next guy's eliminations.
So you know, of course, it would have been better
(03:04):
if someone other than Jordan won, but you know there
were Once Jordan wins, right, there's no other options here,
Josh is going to be made a target. Like it's
him and Michelle. They are friends, but like they've gotten
in a couple of fights this season. There was no
(03:25):
world where Michelle was going to put Derek Chavez as
a target over Josh. It just was not going to happen.
You know, Olivia had done great work all season and
Derek had done great work all season two. You know,
really have more female allies for Derek, and we should
(03:46):
see it how it pays off for him as he's
not named a target here and he's safe coming into
this daily we see Tory and Rachel talk about how
you know, they're they're on the opposite side this season,
but they both can respect how each other's playing the game,
and you know, I think that's very true. They're, you know,
(04:09):
both Florida based challengers. We've seen that they you know,
hang out outside the show, but they're just not working
on the same side of things. You know, Tori's had
her well oiled machine of the Vacation Alliance and it
just you know, there's not a spot for Rachel. I
mean there would be, but Rachel would be like number
(04:31):
eight or number nine in the Vacation Alliance and that
doesn't work for her, and it shouldn't work for her.
There's no reason to be eight or nine when you
can go create you know, Rachel or Banana's Angels and
be you know, top four, top five with some solid
(04:52):
allies there. So we h we see the setup here
for the Daily Guy's Day and it's called another Trucker.
There's a giant arm outside of this truck. The trucks
(05:13):
are going fifty five miles an hour to hit as
many targets as possible. The men in last place are
going straight in and Corey's penalty is that he is
going to have one target that he can't even hit
because it's not there. And you know, I think again
(05:37):
like not just experience, but also like height and reach
like really came to play here because we see Johnny
do an incredible job, Jordan does really well, and like
one of the old school things for these dailies that
they used to always highlight finally comes into play here.
(06:00):
You still always talk about how like going first with
such a disadvantage. They talk about it a little bit now,
but not as much as they used to. And I
mean Carr and Torry really did not do all that
great and when they were going first, they struggled. They're
having a tough time, and I think the girls are
(06:21):
optimistic at this point, they're like, hey, there are two
of the strongest girls in this game. If they're not
doing well, you know, maybe this gives one of us
about an opportunity. Here. They kind of alternate guy girl
guy girl pairs. We see Corey and Bananas. They're doing
a really good job, both of them, are, you know,
(06:44):
Johnny's in the lead. Cory misses a couple. Jenny and
Michelle go. Michelle really tough challenge for her, just like
who we see next. You know, Jordan kills it. Jenny
does a pretty decent job middle of the pack. You know,
it doesn't get the batalty, but Michelle and Josh both
(07:05):
I mean, I think Josh looked even worse than Michelle.
You know, a tough, tough episode all round for Josh.
I do have some praise for him that I will
get to. But Michelle really struggled here. On this semi truck,
(07:26):
it looked like if you swung further in before the
targets actually came out, it looked as if you were
able to hit them, and Michelle and Josh weren't swinging
out quick enough. And I think CT's nickname, Josh really
(07:48):
looked like the goof up there. He really unfortunately did
in a challenge where he needed to do well. And
I think everybody just kind of knew that Josh is
going to get last place here barring some sort of
real tough, bad outcome, if you will, Aviv and Rachel
(08:09):
are going and uh, you know you can tell with
Aviv this is real really not a good challenge for
her with her height and her reach, this is just bad. Uh,
she is not really able to get onto any of
these and uh struggle city for a Viv Bruno, it
(08:39):
was pretty clear to me that Aviv, you know, we
see even Rachel go It's pretty clear to me just
watching them with the girls. Obviously the guys was much closer,
but watching the girl's heat, Aviv getting last and uh,
Rachel getting first was incredibly clear and you know, unfortunate,
(09:03):
right' I've really enjoyed a Vive on this season. To
have a penalty on next week when they're down to
six girls is going to be tough as hell, but
tough tough challenge here for a Viv. We see Derek
and Kylon go up and they both kill it in
(09:24):
this challenge. They're really doing a good job. Kyland only
misses one of the twelve. Derek hits every single one,
and I've been very happy for Derek all season. I'm
so happy that these people finally like look and see
the target that he is the He really has done
(09:47):
a phenomenal job this season. I think he is somebody
who's going to benefit heavily from the Carmel points that
they've put in place, and he is just he's a
much better competitor than people are giving him credit for.
You know. They they see the guys and they're thinking
about Kyland, Bananas, Jordan, and of course they should, but
(10:12):
Derek is no slouch and he gets every single target,
and he forces a sudden death with Jordan in this
challenge to where they're now going to have to go
faster and longer, and there's going to be more distance
in between the targets. They're going, as the kids would say,
(10:34):
they're going Bamford, ban and Al for l every target,
sixth in a row, back and forth. They're both gotting them,
and on the seventh one Derek Chavez gets the target,
Jordan misses, and Derek and Rachel are our winners of
(10:57):
this daily challenge. Here at the final twelve Battle eras
a huge win for Derek. He's safe going into the
next guy's elimination. What a win, What a way to
flip this game on its head. And I mean that
(11:20):
because Karen and Michelle are the only two girls that
would be keeping Derek safe. I think every other girl,
well maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm wrong there, but it
(11:41):
would be tough for Derek, right, I don't I don't
know if every girl's protecting him. He has had a
lot of girls protecting him this season, and it's worked
for him, right because he had he had Naya who
won a few eliminations, who was protecting him. He had
(12:01):
Avery earlier in the game, he did, but now the
Angels are going to do everything they can to protect Johnny.
And you know, Kylon didn't win this one, so he
would have probably been a target. And you know, my
point is is that I just don't know if Derek
(12:24):
would be protected, But you know, he gets a huge
one here, a great job by Derek. Aviv gets last place,
and ultimately Josh Martinez also last place, so Viv will
have the penalty. Josh is automatically into elimination and we
(12:45):
are going to find out whether it's against Cory or Bananas.
I know they tried to bury the lead this episode,
you know, in the night Out. They also tried to
do like Kara with this Hill Mary thing later on,
but I think we all knew what was going on here.
(13:05):
But you know, speaking of Carl, Maria or should I
say Carl, I really enjoyed this. You know, it looks
like Kara is having a lot more fun on Battle
of the eras you know. I know, it's obviously been
widely speculated about how her and Paulie haven't been on
the show for whatever different reasons you may believe. And
(13:28):
you know, whether those stories or rumors are true or not.
Maybe it was a good thing for car to have
a break. You know, she did so many seasons in
a row. She has a couple a couple of seasons off,
you know, that ends up totaling to like a couple
(13:49):
of years off of the Challenge before she flies out
to South Africa for All Stars four. And I think
it's benefited her a lot. I haven't seen her this
happy doing it season in a very very long time.
And uh, you know, she transforms into Carl and Michelle
and Tory are you know, uh saying they haven't been
(14:10):
this turned on in a while. You know, it's just fun.
It was a fun moment seeing uh, you know this
this interaction here. I really enjoyed this next scene, uh,
because we get we get Josh talking to Corey. It's
like the first scene out at the club and Josh
(14:31):
is saying he loves Corey like family, and uh, you know,
I'm glad that Corey kind of checked Josh here because
I have given Josh's praises and I absolutely will in
his swan song later on in this episode. But Corey
like he doesn't even let Josh finish, and he says,
(14:54):
then you better start treating me like it, and like
that's honestly the truth. Like Josh, we we talked about
it in these these episodes of this season where he
will go and say how much he cares about these
people and then all of a sudden, it's just been
(15:20):
it's just been really difficult. You know, it's been really bad.
It's been we we see Josh he tells everybody, Hey,
I am not going to uh, you know, be disrespectful,
(15:41):
and he's not, you know, to be clear, Josh isn't,
but he says how Corey says, guy and blah blah blah,
and then he sends him into elimination twice and Corey
clocked it, you know, so I respect that. Corey kind
of said like, hey, if I am family, you know,
(16:03):
treat me like it. On the night out, Rachel's giving
a lot of praise to Johnny, saying, like, you know,
he's really nice to the people he cares about, which like, sure,
I do think that's true, but also like, I think
we need to not just brush over the fact that
(16:24):
he treats some people horribly that he is not close to.
We've seen it plenty of time, so you know, I
think that's something we can't just brush over and let
carry on type of thing. So an interesting thing, and
(16:49):
you know, Rachel's chatting with Corey, but again we know
what's going on here. Rachel and Derek. They're talking about
how important it is to see the representation for the
that they got the win, and we got a nice
long montage of you know, all the gays and the
success that they've had on the show. There really has
(17:11):
been a lot of uh, you know, powerful people on
the show that I've won that have you know, been
in drama that have really had memorable moments on the
show that are a part of the l g B
t q I A plus community, and I think it
was nice of the show to include this, you know,
(17:32):
especially with Rachel and Derek getting the win here, just
a really nice, you know, little little moment for them.
I wish they had more of that as opposed to
a chamber talk. There was no need to go to
the chamber of this episode, like what are we doing?
Why are we wasting our time again? There's no world
(17:54):
where Rachel is going to send in you know, bananas
over Corey. It's not going to happen. Rachel's not that player,
and honestly, it really wouldn't benefit her much to do that.
So I thought it was just a big wasted time.
(18:14):
What was not a big wasted time and something that
tugged on my heart strings. We get Corey's video call,
and you know, I really didn't see it coming. I
thought it would have been you know, Taylor or Cheyenne
with the kids, and we get Nelly t and you know,
(18:37):
when when Forty was filming, you know, obviously, I think
the accident that Nelson was involved in was right around
when the calls started going out for forty and when
everyone knew he lost his leg, Like people knew, all right,
this isn't gonna you know, it's not going to happen.
(18:59):
Nelson is not going to be on the show. But
I think people were just worried and hoping that he
would be okay. And you know, they obviously don't get
a ton of outside contacts. So I think Corey was
just over the moon happy that he's getting this talk
with Nelson, Uh, finding out that he's getting his prosthetic,
(19:23):
and he's able to to see that he's still in
that that happy mood if you will, he's, you know,
still in that nell Et spirit that he's he's had
for so long, and uh, it was it was a
nice moment seeing that. I'm you know, I'm glad Nelson
(19:48):
is going to be and he already has been walking
if you've seen his Instagram. He's been working on the
prosthetic and he's really been doing a solid job. I'm
wishing him the absolute best with that. Now. After that,
(20:10):
we see Carl saying she wants to try this Hail
Mary play where she appeals to Rachel's being a bad
bitch and only needing herself in this game and just
saying like, hey, turn on Johnny, you know, you know,
(20:34):
just forget about it, right and forget it, like you
don't need Johnny, just throw them in. But it doesn't,
like Rachel says in confessional, you know, Kara has her allies,
Rachel's got hers. It does not benefit Rachel to turn
(20:58):
on Johnny at this point in the game. Really doesn't.
So we get that. We get Tory and Josh doing
uh affirmations, and you know, they they still have each
other's back despite the you know, the the couple arguments
(21:25):
that they've had together this season, and it's it's been interesting,
right we uh. We see a few people talk about
how Josh has worked so hard. You know, Kylin's in
confessionals saying, you know, Josh is putting so much effort
to to be the physical competitor that he is, and
(21:48):
it's almost like we we know in these confessionals, it's
just like they're tearing the rug out under Josh. You know,
this is top it's really tough. So we get to
the arena, it's officially Cory against Josh. The elimination is
(22:10):
called coming from behind. Derek says, oh I like that
name the whole arena laughs. TJ makes a face like, oh,
we should have named it something else. A little funny
moment there. But each side of the wall has these
running tracks, and you're either on offense or defense. The
(22:34):
offense objective is you just run straight and ring a bell.
The defense is trying to knock the offender out of
the zone, and if they do so, they get a point.
I really enjoyed Banana's confessional here where he's like, Josh,
(22:55):
all you have to do is run straight and ring
a bell. I love this from Johnny, I really do,
because you know, Josh, poor guy. It brings me back
to like the Double Agents elimination he won. You know,
(23:19):
he gets off to such a hot start on that
slide puzzle and then he's throwing the balls that are
literally it's like five feet in front of him. He
has to knock out the targets and he is just
so uncoordinated. It's such it's hysterical. But I mean, Corey
(23:41):
had this unlock from the jump. You know that that
first point Josh is on offense, Corey gets over the
hay bales and he barely touches Josh and Josh is
out of bounds and it's one nothing Corey on the
(24:02):
first point, and immediately I'm like, this is deja vu.
The poor guy, and I just want to wrap this
up quickly. I don't want to draw it out for Josh.
Ultimately he loses for nothing. And the reason I say
it's deja vous we have seen this from Josh so
many seasons now, right. He does a good job at
(24:25):
getting far in the game, but then about an elimination
or two before the final, he goes in and he loses.
And it's really sad because I and I think a
lot of people out there have enjoyed Josh More granted
(24:47):
on some of these seasons. That's a low bar to say,
but I've enjoyed Josh more on this season, right, I
really have. So it's been a good run for Josh.
He really put on this season. In my opinion, I
(25:12):
don't think that he he was nowhere near as irritating
and all that. I think he was much more endearing
to the fans this season. And I would like to
see him back and make a final. I really would,
And that's a one eighty for me. I think what
(25:34):
happened was we saw so much Josh like over and
over and over again, and it was the same stuff
and the same arguments and the same everything. And I
think yere on forty he kind of took a back
seat on a lot of the season and he just
did his thing. It's a shame that he goes home
(25:55):
here again so close to the final, Like we're with
eleven people now going into the next episode, Josh is
out tough ending for Josh to leave the game again,
so close, so final, the show enjoys him. The reality
(26:20):
TV rumor mill is correct, well not just the rumor mill.
You know, he was on that show out in Spain
for like the one hundred reality TV stars in Spain.
It did really well in the ratings. He's supposed to
be on another show coming up. I really could see
(26:42):
Josh doing a lot more, you know, being on the Challenge.
I know the Traders asked him, but apparently his contract
wasn't you know, up for it. But I could see
him doing Traders for Like, this is so not the
end of Josh, and I'm not a said about it
this time. I'm really not. I do hope we see
(27:04):
him again on a season. I hope we get him
on these other shows, but for Battle of the eras
on season forty, this is the end for Josh. We
go into next week. Corey has named his targets for
the next episode. We get Jenny, Michelle and Aviv as
the targets. Avive with the penalty heading into next week's
(27:27):
episode and as be featured in this episode, Nelson Thomas
would say, we're getting down to the needy greedy with
eleven people left. Austin has been making his prediction that
we are going to have five men and five women
in the final and then an elimination to start and
(27:47):
whittle our way down. I could very well see that,
So we'll see. Maybe next week's the last episode before
the final, but we will be here to reach at all.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. If you celebrate,
enjoy it, Enjoy the turkey, the day off and relaxing
(28:10):
with friends and family. Hope you all enjoy the Oh.
I actually believe we are off. Let me double check that,
but I think the challenge is off next week. Let's
see here while I kill some time if I am
(28:30):
correct here, Yeah, okay, we are off next week. We
have no episode next week for Thanksgiving. So we will
not be back next week because there's no episode to
talk about. We will be back the following week, the
first week of December, to break down Challenge forty, Episode fifteen.
(28:51):
Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. We will see
you the first week of December. Hope you all have
a great week
