Speaker 1 (00:02):
What's going on everybody? And welcome back to another episode
of the Challenge Fanatics podcast where we're here to break
down everything Challenge related. My name is Josh Green. You
can find us on all social media platforms at Challenge
van pod and we're here to break down episodes three, four, five.
A lot to get into today, and I'm here with
(00:24):
my co host Austin. People said, Austin, how you doing.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
We're chilling Outside's a beautiful day and I'm looking forward
to recaving three episodes jam Pack today.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Three big old episodes. Basically the a very public meltdown
in the title of episode three, but Johnny Banana is
uttering the phrase I Am the Challenge, which took the
internet by storm, where many people were debating and wondering
(01:01):
and contemplating if it was true. We'll get into the
nitty gritty up at all, But Austin, I think it's
it's a good place to stop down because there was
a ton of discourts. Is Johnny Bananas the Challenge?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
I mean, you know, I think he is until somebody
shows him up. The one thing, the one thing that
I think, like, yeah, you know, it's Johnny. He's being Uh,
he's being confident and cocky. It's Johnny Bananas.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
But all these people are like, oh, you're not the Challenge.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
None of them have.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Won anything, so like I don't I don't know if
you can say anything until you win, but I mean
for right now. I mean when people tune in when
Bananas is on a Challenge season, like you're going to
tune in CT.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Sure, you know, like CT doesn't bring a ton of drama.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
He does this season, but CT kind of just you know,
coast to the to the to the.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Final and then he dominates the final.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Wes is you know, always there but like due when
Bananas is on like that, you're tuning in, you're watching,
and you're looking at He's just he is so good
at what he does in every aspect, so remote most aspects.
So I think just being a seven time winner, you're
kind of tuning in for Bananas. I understand what he's saying.
I mean, it is the It did come to a
(02:17):
pretty I don't want to say like I thought his
I thought the response was like pretty pretty funny, but
like also like kinda kind of sick. I was like, damn,
like that was they can't really say anything to that
they can't.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Uh. And here's what I will definitely agree with with Johnny,
and I think in general, this show would not still
be on if it weren't for Jonathan devon Aziel yep,
without Johnny Bananas as the bride to call hims. They
(02:53):
love to hate him and sometimes you hate to love
him in certain perspectives. Johnny knows how to produce a
good TV and even though the show has been struggling,
the show this season has been doing a lot better
in the ratings and in views and everything like that. Now,
(03:15):
I do think Johnny looked a little bit like a
fool in miss deliberation that we see in episode three
where he is really you know, like this cast was
not set up for him from the jump, not being
results oriented either. You got a bunch of hungry rookies
that you know, want Banana's name on their shoulders, like
(03:39):
I took Johnny out of the game, and a bunch
of bets are retired of seeing him collect checks from MTV.
So not not a good group for him.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Well, the other thing.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
The other thing too is which we'll talk about later,
but like everybody was like, oh, we didn't form this
Alliance just to get Johnny out but has proven you know,
after elimination in this episode, like.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yeah, that's basically what you guys did, so like.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Pretty much what happened.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
It is funny how that how you know how much
they wanted him out. But yeah, I mean the thing
about Bananas too is he gets out early in a
season and he'll come back and have a you know,
a monster season following.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
So we'll see what he comes back.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Oh sorry, well we're not there yet, but I think
we're far enough along where people know he's already gone,
but we'll get to that point. But yeah, I mean
this season you can tell early on has been very
focused with about Bananas versus the British.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Alliance BA manas. Now we get CT and NYA here
in episode three. You know, they go way back. They've
been friends for a long time, even as far back
as rivals two together, and CT is like, hey, you
should get an MRI, you know, as somebody who's been
(04:55):
injured on the show, Like you don't want to keep
competing on something that's injured and then have to get
surgery and you know, have it truly affected you down
the road? Now, I don't know if it's how it
was edited or what, but it just seemed like these
MRI results took forever. Of course, before the challenge and
the MRI. In my opinion, we get one of the
(05:18):
best verbal altercations in a long time when Gabe decides
to talk shit about Naya around the entire house on
a guy's day mind you, saying how he's so pissed
to how Naya is a partner. You know, she's injured,
(05:41):
she should just go home, Like we've seen people compete injured, and.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah, Derek is broken and he's still out here.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
I would still take Naya over some of the girls.
I was just shocked to see Gabe talk shit before
they even competed.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, this is a classic like rookie mistake.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
He thinks that, I don't know how familiar he is
with the challenge. But like Nias a great teammate to have,
she will give it her all until she.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Can't go anymore.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
And man, you wanna you want to start, You want
to like put a target on your back real quick,
like just say, just do something that Gabe did, Like
it's he obviously has a little a lot of insecurity,
like you'll you know, as we find out through the
episodes he has a lot of self doubt, but that
was very interesting for him to, uh to do. I
don't know how much of the Challenge he's watched, and
(06:34):
he comes from what one of the Love Island or
something shows?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
What's the show? W w E Oh shit, that's right.
I forgot about that.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I thought he came from a show too, because I
know he was a wrestler and a football player, but
or rugby or whatever you played.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah, I just.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Basically my point still stands, he doesn't really have any
of that game sense. Yeah, so you know, it's it's
just welcome, you know, welcome to the Challenge rookie basically
at that.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Point, now we have some real good pairs. You know.
Every week when we're switching these pairs, obviously they become
more and more inconsequential because they're just switching every single week.
So there's no like, hey, like let me look out
for you type of thing, like let's look out for
(07:25):
this team, because it's all getting jumbled up every single
daily Challenge. What I will say is Justin and Olivia
arguably they do go on to win this Daily Challenge
here in episode three, but they are really from a
(07:47):
guy's side. Justin has been one of the m vps,
and Olivia strategically and in these daily challenges has been
well ahead of every other girl and far and away
the threat. Of course, she makes a very silly move
later in the dispatch of episodes to become the hangnail.
(08:09):
But I was shocked at these two were paired together. Yeah,
a puzzle challenge.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah, I mean, everybody's got to be pair with everybody,
but that was a yeah, it's a strong pairing and like, ultimately,
you know, like you said, like Olivia is definitely one
of the threats. I mean you basically have Olivia, older
Vets and then newbies. So Olivia kind of fits the
(08:36):
mold of being new but also a VET, so the
younger but also being a VET. So also pretty incredible
where she if you think about it, where she's come from,
she's a staple and challenge now, but she literally came
from Love Island or whatever that she came from, and
she's a she's a beast, so, which I honestly do
when they introduced her because I watched that season. I
didn't watch too many of these seasons, but I watched
(08:56):
that season and I was like, Oh, this girl is
not gonna be here very long. And now she's like
kind of a staple and MTV right now, which is
pretty funny.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
I mean a lot of people still wonder what would
have happened if she didn't take that golf ball to
the eye during Oh.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
My gosh, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, like ern Rossio came on the scene together.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Oh they were so good.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, they really did a great job that season. And
yeah they were one of the three teams left in
that final. And you know, of course there's so many
what could have, would have, should have. But if if
she doesn't take that golf ball to the eye or
to her face, really you know, who the hell knows.
(09:40):
But she is looking clocked in this season.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
We're seeing well, I will say too clocked in, but
clocked in also to the point of like she has
a lot of people protecting her.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
So she's got protection for a while.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Until, you know, unless he does something dumb, which we'll
talk about later.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
You know what, I think Olivia realized when she came
on that there were so many people coming into this
like pipeline into the Vacation Alliance and hoping to find
their footing in it, but they end up being the
Josh or the Anissa who gets chopped before the final
(10:21):
and doesn't get any money. Yeah, and Olivia was like, no,
I'm doing my own thing. I'm getting my own numbers
together and I want to become a champ, like I'm
not riding, you know, with the whole vacation alliance, and
just yeah, oh for sure, even though he's competing pretty
(10:42):
terribly this.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
And he's been like that since he's come back.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
But yeah, so we do find out from TJ after
this Daily everyone's kind of we're not sure, right, we
you know, we've had different circumstances come up through out
this season that are making things. We don't know whether
it's going to be a guy's there a girl's day.
But we do find out it's a girl's day since
(11:09):
Nya couldn't compete, which was very weird, right, they say
she can't compete, but we're not eliminating her from the
show yet, which the whole thing I just found odd.
But how do you know she can't compete in the
Daily Challenge, but then you're holding out hope that she
can compete in the elimination.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Well, I think they're they're holding because it sounds like
she didn't tell anybody until she wanted to get a test.
And now since she asked for the MRI, they didn't
have the results yet, so they probably didn't want her
to compete until they got the results.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, no, that's fair. That is definitely fair. So Nia's
automatically going in, which is tough for you know, Olivia
and justin win the daily here a good thing for Nya.
You know, she can use her friendship with Olivia. Yeah,
very funny. Honestly, turbo so far, very unproblematic. Here on
(12:07):
forty one, he tells the O to his face that
Olivia is the alpha in their relationship. Yeah, and honestly
the way Olivia has been playing Turbo spot on take
spot on. Yeah, I agree. Now everybody, we are getting
(12:30):
so many confessionals. Everyone wants Bananas to be the hangnail.
They want to send Bananas in to elimination the next
guy's day. So they all, for the exception of really, Sidney,
Lecca and d vote for America and Jonathan Bananas. But
(12:51):
of course we get to the arena. The MRI results
say that she is medically the Naya is medically unable
to compete America, Lopez technically wins the elimination, is still
in the game with their partner Johnny, and Gabe is
(13:13):
our hangnail. And you see, Gabe, this is the full
circle karma of talking shit to Naya because now now
he's the hangnail and there was not a chance in
hell he was getting saved of going in. They couldn't
even have aired the next episode and I would have
(13:34):
said Gabe went into that elimination.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Well.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
That's just what you get.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
At least he was able to apologize before a Nile left.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
So yes, he does apologize, even though Leroy is the
one that's like, dude, I know a good a good
social maneuver from Lee here. Of course him and I
have been partners in the past, and uh, you know
he They're starting to see the writing on the wall
(14:05):
that like Johnny might be going into a bunch of eliminations.
So we see Lee branching out to the rookies and
trying to make some new friends. Now we are now
into episode four. Wish I had been practicing is that
(14:26):
episode title? We are seeing Ben have a long conversation
with CT out by the pool. Very nice house in Santiago.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
This I had, it's got to be one of the
top ones they've had.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
That one's crazy, I say this one. And then the
All Stars three house was just nuts too. Yeah, it
was sick. I can, I'll send you it. But it
was also they used that house for for Perfect Match.
It's a real nice house. But yeah, this one is
(15:06):
just very very nice. And we are getting to the
daily here, which we've seen in the super trailer for
this season. We saw them all running in these big
container yards and this is a daily called Run Amazed,
(15:34):
and there are twenty containers with many puzzles. Each team
is going to have to run to their puzzle. I
have never in my life. Okay, maybe a bit of
an exaggeration, Austin, they got forty five minutes to do
(15:55):
a sudoku and run out of this. How awful are
these people at puzzles that they gave them forty five
minutes to do a sudoku?
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Yeah yeah, and a lot of them still didn't do well.
But yeah, I mean, if you don't know sudoku and
like the a general strategy on how to solve it, like,
you're not gonna You're not I don't even know if
that you know where to start. So yeah, it tripped
a lot of people up. This is I mean, it's
tough one too, because you don't know if you're going
(16:26):
to a hard one or an easy one.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
They did. I think TJ said the further you ran
to your puzzle, the easier it got.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
But like the hard I think it was the harder
it got.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Oh okay, okay, But but the thing is like they
didn't know that makes more sense.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Even if they're running out, they didn't know how far
they went.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
And also some of these people like you even look
at Ashley, who's supposed to and she is very good
at puzzles, but she had no idea what was going
on with Sadoku. But that's it is what it is, right.
There are certain puzzles that you can learn as you
go Sudoku, Like you either know it or you don't,
(17:09):
and you look like a moron if you you don't
know it. Yeah, I mean her Nanny. We had some
of the that guys like Leeroy. It was just a
disaster for a lot of teams, aside from a great
performance from two teams in particular that are basically in
(17:34):
a photo finish to the end Adrianne in CT who
Adrianne has been a great competitor this season. Married a
first sight UK, I just did not think she would
be anything very underrated. Yeah, and I'm glad to be
dead wrong. Like, she's very funny. In the confessional, she
was so happy that it was sadoku and she's like
(17:56):
leading CT on the sudoku.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Yeah, she's gotta sell social game and it seems like
she's go giva puzzles too.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Yeah, she's she's nice. She's funny as as Mitch Green says,
she's nice to look at, which is definitely true. But
she's also got game, Like she really does have game. Uh,
these these UK girls, the new ones on the scene,
really have have game and are not just like here
(18:25):
to you know, get fucked up, like they are here
to take names and do well. But they get out
done by Ben and mikayleb Bradshaw. What a pair Where
What a pairing? Ben seizes the moment in a in
(18:49):
something that many people probably never thought would happen. That
Ben wins a daily challenge I.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Mean well and Michaela's Michaela's one of my favorite challengers,
so I'm pumped that she won.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
And then yeah, Ben is fun.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
So the fact that like an underdog one is is
super awesome.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
And Ben was there, but Michaila won. Mikayla, you know,
loved her on USA two. I'm glad she's back here
on forty one. Yeah, it's been fun to see her
navigate this game her way. She doesn't navigate it with
this like big alliance that she's going to allow dictate things.
(19:30):
She's going to do things the way she wants to.
It does seem like she's been working with most of
the veteran girls at this point, which is a safe
and good move. But at the same time, like if
you've watched Mikayla's this is now her her fourth season
of reality TV, between her two on Survivor and this
(19:51):
is her second Challenge season, She's not gonna be told
what to do like that does not go well. You know,
she works well with others, but if you start telling
her what to do, that will not go well.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
So a good win here for Bet and Michayla. And
very interestingly, and I had to put my Challenge history
cap on here. Hear that Johnny ultimately for the first
(20:26):
time in his Challenge career in twenty five years is
in dead last place.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
And that's the first time in a daily ever.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
That's what he said. And I don't know if that's true.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I mean, I'm sure if you factor in some kind
of like team events or some shit, but yeah, I
don't know. Someone's gotta fact check that, because.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
I'm thinking to myself, like even in partner seasons, right, like,
if you think of his partners, him and Tony on
Final rec getting dominated like everything, him and Sarah Rice, like,
he's had so many good partners that it kind of
does track that maybe he didn't get last place before. Maybe,
(21:15):
but him and Leka get absolutely destroyed by this sudoku.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
And well it was.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Also like partly only partly Johnny's faulty took it all
down right at the end and they didn't have enough.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Time to put anything else back up.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yep, And we did here in the beginning with the
instructions that it was last place would be the team
with the least correct amount answers, the least amount of
correct answers. Excuse me, and we, like you just said,
we see Johnny, he's pretty much telling Lekka that we're
(21:47):
taking them off and takes them off, and it was
clear right it wasn't really a cliffhanger. It was that
that Johnny Bananas was going to be going into elimination.
It was just the matter of who is the team
that's going to be nominated against Gabe and then who
(22:12):
will go in from there. You know, Ben and Michayla,
this is not a great time to be winning for them,
you know, a tough spot as they they end up
just voting in Derek Chavez too be the team, and
(22:37):
Derek was voted in to the elimination as the nominee
against Gabe. Yes, that was butchered a little bit, that's
all right. Gabe against Derek a good strategic movie or
from Ben and Michayla because they know that many, if
not all, of the VET girls and many of the
(22:58):
VET guys will not vote Derek Chavez into elimination against
Jonathan Bananas. They want the rookies out, so they're gonna
put Gabe in and worst case scenario for the Vets,
Gabe takes out Johnny. So we will see how this goes.
(23:26):
But it's a unanimous vote.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
In the fact that Gabe the WWE star is going
in against Johnny Bananas very early in the season.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
For Johnny to go in.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yeah, they're pushing for I mean, it's it's his own doing.
But it's pretty funny.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
He goes in because he got last place and because
he was voted in by all the people who want
him out.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah, yeah, Johnny, you know you go in. You got
no one to blame on this one. And it's a
very As soon as I see this elimination, I say,
(24:12):
oh boy, oh boy ah. Because we have this elimination
called hold them Back. There are three walls with tokens
and goals, and on offense, their job is to put
(24:32):
their carabiner onto the different ropes, move the ball down
and placed them into the bucket. And on defense it's
strictly to hold the people back. On offense, and uh,
this one, I gave britten all over it. It really did.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
I mean I knew, we knew Gabor was like pretty strong,
but didn't know like definitively if he would win.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
I was more like, okay, like, you know, we'll see
how this goes.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
But obviously when it starts, like Gabe Strang is unreal
and he is just so much bigger than Johnny too.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Jonathan Banana's uh yeah, I mean, look, Johnny still shows
he did put in strategy into this. Now, whether Gabe
was just too inexperience or Johnny did out smart him
as another conversation, but Johnny did put up a fight
(25:32):
still and it was close, close ish, but ultimately Gabe
wins this elimination. The Brits plus Derek Chavez plus Olivia
are going crazy that Johnny is out of the game.
(25:52):
They didn't have to do any political maneuver, they didn't
have to do anything. Johnny comes in last place automatically,
he goes in and the guy who is on his
own island socially in this game takes out one of,
if not the biggest threat in the Challenge forty one
and Johnny goes home an episode four, Episode four.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Yeah, they'll probably come back strong, but super early for
the champ for the King, for.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
The King of the Challenge. Now, you know, maybe this
opens the door for another CT win.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Yeah, I mean, he is super out of shape though,
so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Now this season, he definitely is. He looks like he's
in better shape now. But yeah, I noticed that too.
I was like, dude, what's going on here? But we
we get our new pairs here, and Gabe and Lekka
are a new threat team for the first time in
(27:01):
the game. We are getting new threats together. I think
for a while folks were wondering, like, hey, yes, it's
cool that it's Bet and new threat opposite gender, But
at some point there's going to come a time where
this is going to have to change up. So what
are we going to do about that? What's what's the
(27:24):
game mechanic going to be? And TJ tells them that
they are now a pair and talk about the easiest
target in the game, a new threat, new threat pair
with the guy that just beat Bananas and no one
has a ton of close social relationships with yep. So,
(27:50):
coming into episode five titled Pride be Comes Before the Fall,
a big target is still on Gabe's back. Even though
he does a great job in the elimination episode four
he has just done not just with Naya, it seems
like a lot of people are not thrilled with Gabe
at all.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
And there's still there's still a noticeable difference because they
saw how strong he is, and I don't know if
people want to see him in the elimination anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Correct, correct, and uh, you know they're gonna want someone
else to to face Gabe. But here in episode five,
I Mikayla. Mikhayla makes me laugh so damn much. She
in the beginning of the episode, she's like, you know,
(28:39):
it's great that all the rookies are so excited. Uh,
you know, pride becomes before the fall. She Later in
the episode, she's talking about how, uh, some people on
the show have no damn brain and they don't know
how to use it. Just like very like quick, witty
and like good with it, you know, yeah, just very
(29:01):
to the point. Yeah. And it's never like it's never
below the belt. It's never like truly disrespectful. It's just like,
what the hell am I witnessing here? Yeah, excuse me, Anissa.
We see Caripe and on the Rookie conversation, the rookies
(29:26):
are high on life after getting Johnny out. Leo has
been a very outspoken rookie, somebody who wants the vets
out of this game. And I mean, I don't even
know with Anissa anymore, I just I try. I know
(29:46):
she's looking better this season. I will give her that.
But socially, it's like every time, and especially this episode
two with the vote that we'll talk about, Yeah, it's
like every time I feel like she's made progress, she
shoots herself in a foot with an automatic rifle.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
You think at one point she'd realized, Hey, I don't
think this is working for me. I should probably find
an allegiance or switch it up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Blows my mind. And then the whole there's no other
way to describe it, the whole bullshit of this person's
my really close friend, but so is this person. Girl.
We know like you've been on the show for a
quarter century, like you're friends with these people, but like,
enough's enough. Just say who you're voting for. Don't give
(30:33):
us this whole bullshit lack of empathy thing, yeah, or
putting on too much empathy. Rather, it's so see through
and fake. I do not.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Yeah, it is tough to see you.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
And actually just cause this episode is actually just calls
her out confessional after confessional.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Yeah, and I would love to break that down when
when we get there, because I think there's while Ashley
was like doing it for the SoundBite, there's a lot
of truth and merit to what she said, but before
we head off to the Daily Daily Challenge, here, we
(31:17):
got some unfortunate news, which is it makes sense in
the editing, right. We didn't see much of Carl Maria
this season, and I think a lot of people were
were thinking that she was going to be in forty
one as like a more prominent figure. You know, she
was all over season forty and I think people just
(31:41):
thought that, like Kara was going to be a big
part of forty one, and in the edit, you know,
she's really not yeah at all. So unfortunately, this news
does make sense as to why they didn't put her
in the edit as much. Kara has a family member
(32:02):
who's not doing well at home. She's talking to Cet,
who's basically a brother to her, and I do remember
reading right around the time of filming that the family
member unfortunately passed away. But I think Cara got back
in time to be with her family and go to
the funeral. You know what, I will say, it's obviously
(32:27):
terrible news for Kara. I think this pretty much gives
her one hundred percent chance to come back for forty
two after something like that, but still a very tough break,
and our thoughts are with the Sorbella family.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Yeah, yeah, Yeah, It's just one of those tough, unfortunate
events that sometimes happen. And you know, obviously there's life
is more important than the game, so I'm hoping you know,
everybody's doing okay after a tough loss.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Yeah. Yeah. And you know it's hard to remember this,
but the Challenge episodes sometimes there were like only two
or three days of actual time for each episode that airs,
So I was very confused here. I just thought like, Okay,
(33:20):
Leo's not going to have a partner and we're going
to move on. But we find out from TJ that
they're bringing in a ringer for Kara. This is the
reason that they do have alternates each season. You know,
we have had folks that were guests on our podcast
talk about their experience as alternates. They basically just put
(33:43):
them in a hotel for a week for reasons like this.
If people get hurt or there's a family emergency or
whatever in the first week of the game, then they
send the alternate in and sure enough, John a Double
All Star Champion, John A all Day is here. She
(34:08):
is Leo's partner heading into this new daily that we'll
talk about in a second. But your thoughts on John
Ay entering the game here.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Love John A. I'm hype. I think it's going to
introduce a lot of uncertainty in the house.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
The one thing I hate that they do with alternates
is have them say yesterday, i was just making food
with my family and today I'm playing in the challenge, Like,
please stop.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
We know that's not the case. Please stop doing that. Yeah,
that would be great. We're not dumb. But yeah, other
than that, yeah, I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
That's the thing, like us, the other podcasters, there's even
the fans at this point know how the alternate.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
I don't I think people realize if he didn't fly
yesterday to come down, like come on.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Yeah, the only ones where like the no, never mind
what I was gonna say, but the alternate thing, it
does not work that way. Yeah, to be filming in
the United States for it to work that way, and
they haven't in years. So you know that's why they
(35:15):
name alternates. They do pay them to be in the
hotel and have room service and watch TV and all
that shit. But no, it's not like, oh, yesterday I
was making lunch and for my kids and now today
I'm here with Leo and we're competing together. Yeah, of
course they told john A to say that. I really
don't think she would have on her own. But we
(35:40):
get this. We always have these in the challenge world, right,
We get these random movies coming in to sponsor a
challenge to have a theme.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
It's either a fast food chain or a movie.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Burger King used to be the one. They used to
always have the Samsung Mobile.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
I think they yeah, yeah, back when yeah, I mean,
but I will say peak Challenge also included these like
daily uh when daily prizes that you would get and
they would they would give away.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Prizes worse sick, but like rewatching those episodes and seeing
some of those prizes, like tell me what the fuck
some of these people are gonna do with a goddamn kayak, you.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Know, or like yeah, a motor a motorized skateboard or
whatever they're shaid they were showing.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
They're gonna be like, yeah, I get a brand deal
and post the thirty second Instagram at and I get
sent one of these.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Like yeah week yeah, and then and then the other
part like I love, I love when they do these.
It doesn't make it fun, but like the cheesy part
is when they're you know, productions like okay, cheer, cheer.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
This part, it's just like, hey, I'm watching the Okay often.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
I'm so glad you brought that up because I had
a back and forth with my dad where he really
thought that there was a fucking TV in Santiago when
they were describing the challenge when they're all like, oh,
oh my god, and then they're clapping. I'm like, Dad,
there is not a TV there. There are three production
assistants that are signaling for them to clap to uh,
(37:12):
act scared and all that stuff. And he's like, no,
it's possible they could have set a TV up. I'm like, dude,
they are in the middle of the fucking desert in Chili.
There is no way they set up a TV there. Yeah,
it was very funny just see everyone like clap and everything.
But I'll give I'll give him TV. This Jordan Peele movie, Like,
(37:37):
we're not getting Jordan Peele's not a scrub. So like,
at least they got a decent movie.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. It looks like a good movie.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Yeah, it's called Him. It is a football horror shit.
You know, I'm all in let's do it. And in
honor of this, we have a daily called Dirt Baller
and boy o, boy did this one bring some fun.
They have to dig up a football that is very
(38:10):
deep in the ground at their post, and then they
have to carry five parts that will add in to
a field goal post and kick a field goal to
win the daily. Chat at the end, Austin, have you
(38:33):
kicked a field goal before?
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (38:38):
I would have been. Ben Davis said this, dude.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Yeah, can we talk about the fact that, like, all
these teams except Ben seemed you know, it's the edit,
but all these teams Ben's sem to.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Have an easy job doing this. I was like, and
they were kicking like, you know, decent.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
I was like, damn, I mean there, Yes, the edit
obviously plays into it, but we saw Justin and Nannie
we're not doing very well in this challenge, but we
see it in the real time. They go up, they
set up their field goal. Justin as the confessional that
his father was a football coach growing up, and he
(39:13):
literally goes up to it and it's like a walk
in the park and he just nails it right down
the middle. And Yeah, a lot of people did very
well with with kicking the field goal, and then another
great confessional from Adrianne talking about how Ashley is is
(39:36):
making some sounds that I cannot describe other than it
sounds like she's having an orgasm in hurling and look,
ash I good for you if kicking field goals brings
that out in someone. But it seemed like everybody there
noticed that Smashley was was getting turned on by something.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Yeah, that's that was strange.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Quite that I do enjoy Ashley, but I was like, girl,
what is going on? Like this is uh, this is crazy.
We get we get Gabe and Lecca. They're doing all right,
(40:25):
you know, they're going through the challenge truly wild here again,
Uh to see adrian not only in confessionals, but on
the field, she's doing great. Her and Turbo do a
solid job. She's just been a great partner with whoever
(40:47):
she's been paired with throughout this season. Now, if she
goes into elimination, maybe that'll be a different story. I
don't know, but so far, I mean I think the
girl don't even want to go up against her with
how she's been competing, like, she's very well rounded.
Speaker 6 (41:06):
So yeah, this will be interesting of course, as we
alluded to before, Ben again off to a solid start
in a Daily.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
Him and Olivia are way out in front, and while
they did make Ben look kind of bad in the edit,
at the same time, the man missed probably twenty five
or thirty field goals before he let Olivia kick it,
and Olivia gets it on the first try, so they
blow the lead in their heat. Well, once again our
(41:40):
fave that Caleb Bradshaw back to back Daily wins here.
How about Mikayla in her second season just killing it
with the Derek's in last place and ultimately Derek Chavez
and d elimination Electric Finish Electric Truly Derek, both Derek's,
(42:07):
Izzy and d are all setting up. They're very worried
about going into elimination, and obviously the girls don't want
to be the hangnail. Well, you shouldn't want to be
the hang nail unless you're Olivia, which we will talk
about quite soon. And Derek see missus Derek Kay by
(42:34):
the skin of his teeth, saves himself from elimination, and
we pretty much go to a night out where Derek
he wants a big rookie guy. He's going into elimination.
He wants to go big, so he says Will. He says,
(43:00):
it's pretty much his main option. He wanted to be
Will Jeremy too, which yes he said that, but that
was incredibly stupid. Anyone who actively wants to go against.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
That man, well, Will too.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
But yeah, but Jeremy's more well rounded in these like
Clarence challenges. Yeah, Will's the guy who could throw you
through a wall. Jeremy's the guy who can beat you
up a mountain. And that's more what there's a higher
probability that that skill set is what's going to be
(43:37):
needed in the final. But yeah, I wouldn't want to
face Will either, So I thought Derek should have been
happy with the end result here. I don't think that
the the best option would have been Will or Jeremy
because I think it would have resulted in him going home,
especially elimination they had. Yeah, you imagine him going against
(44:02):
Will in that hall brawl.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
No, it would have been a nightmare.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I would have personally loved to see it because it
would have been a handbanger.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
But yeah, so on the night out, Olivia wildly says, yeah,
if you guys, you know, if you want to throw
in Ben I don't care. I'll be the hangmail.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
Yeah, she obviously had a couple of drinks and she
felt way too protected than she actually is.
Speaker 1 (44:27):
And yeah, dumb move because the reason if the wrong teams,
which we found out early on in this season, the
last place team does not vote in these deliberations. So
(44:50):
I don't know, like, obviously alcohol was the enemy here.
I just think Olivia was trying to get too cute
with it and thinking like Ben's not on my he's
not against me, but he's not on my side, so
let's get rid of him. But he just did not
make sense.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Yeah, pretty crappy to do to your teammate.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
I mean that's up there with what Gabe.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Well, it's up there gameplay with what Gabe did. But yeah,
not great.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
It was not Olivia's best gameplay. Yeah, she obviously I
don't think she did anything rude to Ben.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
No, No, not rude. Well, I mean she threw him in.
I mean that's so stupid. It was stupid. Yes, but
the type of ship that Gabe was saying about.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
Oh yeah, I mean like yeah, but it was just
it was just one of the stupid plays of the season.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
Yes, Now, the meat and Potatoes here we have Olivia talking.
Everyone's talking in the break room. There's about six seven people,
and actually he's actually selling Olivia, Like you can't trust Sanisa.
(45:59):
You know, she plays for her friends, she doesn't play
for herself. She doesn't know what's best for her. And
sure enough, when we get to what we thought would
be a simple vote here, because Mikayla and Jake get
to save a team, they save Leo and john A
(46:23):
because two people have burned. Gabe burns on himself and
Anissa burns on I don't even remember what team she
burned on all I just remember I was so annoyed
that she burns.
Speaker 2 (46:40):
This is what gets her in trouble every single year.
She continues to do it.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
I don't know if it's because she wants people to
keep coming on our podcast or doesn't want people to
get mad at her, but like every year, it is
the same thing, not the podcast.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
That's a good point. Look, we say this on all
of these shows. We talk about it every season. If
you are loyal to everyone, you are loyal to no one.
And Denisa keeps thinking and I don't know how many
(47:15):
seasons she needs to play for her to realize that
this is not going to work, but you cannot burn.
It's challenged one on one. Yeah, we see it all
the time. Is this one gets a niece in trouble
every season? No, but it's moves like it that do.
(47:36):
She always does some stupid bullshit like this to try
and protect every single friend that she has instead of
doing the move that everybody was going to do, like
this season. And I know on forty she was close
with Olivia too. If you want to rock with Olivia,
I'm not annoyed about that, Like that's cool, but rock
(47:59):
with her. Don't burn and fuck up a vote because
you think that it's this good idea because we've seen
it in the past and challenge history and TJ talks
about it here before the elimination, we're going to vote
one more time. And you all know that I don't
like ties, do you. I think that they all would
(48:22):
have had to dress up for elimination and everybody would
have been eligible and the tie people would have been safe.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
Yeah, I would have liked to see it, or the
head people have to vote, but yeah, I would have
liked to see it.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
That's what I'm I think it would have been like
Survivor where they draw rocks, except TJ would have been like, hey,
the people who were tied through two votes, they now
get to decide which which pair goes in because you
all couldn't figure it out. Yep, because TJ wasn't putting
on a front. He hates that bullshit of the ties,
(48:57):
the tie votes they they made. Obviously, the political game
this season is complicated, but it is not that hard
to not tie a vote. And you know, I get
it for Gabe for a little bit because he's on
an island by himself. But for Anissa, I was just like, girl,
(49:19):
pick somebody. Yeah wild here, absolutely wild. So they vote again.
They're only voting for Jeremi or Ben, and those are
the only people you can vote for, Jeremi or Ben.
(49:40):
Ben ends up going in, Gabe ends up not saying
a name, Leka ends up being the one that has
to say a name. He refuses to say anybody, and
(50:02):
Anissa then flips her vote. So we've now managed to
tie twice twice. TJ's pissed and he says, guess what,
we're flipping a coin to figure out who's going in.
It shocked and it's pretty much the idea of play
(50:24):
stupid games win stupid prizes like you all. Now, from
every other perspective, they should have thrown Yeremi in because
if this guy gets to a final, he very well
may win the damn show. Yeah, so they should have
thrown Jeremi in. But if you're gonna type a vote,
(50:45):
guess what. We're gonna flip a coin. I thought that
shit was so funny. We're gonna flip a coin.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
Yeah, that's like extremely nerve wracking.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
I can't even imagine.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
Gold. So Ben goes in based off the coin flip,
and we get a version of hall Brawl. It is
called the Him Corridor. It's a haul brawl with a
football twist. They're starting back to back carrying a football.
(51:19):
They meet in the middle, race to the opposite direction,
plays the ball in the bin. First person to score
twice wins. Derek Shavez really does a great job here.
Even though Ben's a little bit bigger than him, he
hits him hard in that second round the first kind
(51:43):
kind of surprising.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
I wasn't expecting him to do that.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
Well, it's Derek shab As this thing. He shuts the
He's like, you know what, like, let me show you
what I can do, and yeah, he takes Ben down.
I really thought that this could have like if Ben
was going to win an elimination, it was a matchup
(52:06):
like this in a physical elimination.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
Like this, Well that's exactly like if he was going
to win any elimination, it was probably this one.
Speaker 1 (52:13):
And he wasn't even close. Yeah, I mean, Derek, it
was pretty much like Derek put the the truck stick
on him. Yeah, like you can do in Madden on
the one, Like everyone in the audience was like, holy shit,
what a hit by Derek. So Derek c wins the elimination,
(52:35):
rejoins his partner d they go rejoin the group, and
Olivia Kaiser is the hangnail. Now she you are right,
she was drunk, like guess what she put it out
there in the universe, and now she's the hangnail. And
there is a good amount of the house who was
going to have no problem throwing her into elimination.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
Yeah, I mean uh uh see said at the end,
like death on you and now you're going in.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
Yeah, I look, I think it's gonna take a very specific, right,
you know, outcome for it to not be Olivia. In
the next Girl's elimination. I could be wrong, but I
really think we're When we're recapping episode six next week,
(53:27):
we are going to be seeing Olivia and elimination. I
think the girls are going to see it as an
opportunity that they can't pass up. As we've talked about today,
Olivia has this season. She's playing it so far like
it's hers to lose, and if maybe I I think
(53:52):
they would be silly to not to not throw her
in yep, and see what happens. We will, We will see.
I'm very excited again. Look through five episodes, great season.
Really have been enjoying it. Not any sarcasm there. Forty
one has been great. I hope they keep it going.
(54:14):
You know. Let's also hope that these rookies that we've
been enjoying actually get called back and don't just like
disappear from the Challenge World after the season. You know,
we don't have to bring them all back, but some
of them would be great. YEP. We will be back
next week to break down episode six again. Follow us
