Speaker 1 (00:02):
What's going on everybody, and Welcome back to another episode
of the Challenge Fanatics podcast where we break down everything
Challenge adjacent. My name is Josh Green and you can
find us on all social media platforms at Challenge fan Pod.
Please rate, review, subscribe wherever it is you listen to
your Challenge podcasts, and as you can tell from the
(00:22):
title of this podcast, we have our first guest from
the Challenge All Stars five, the first student of the
Challenge Master Class one oh one from Professor Cooley, a
two time All Star, the great Adam Larson. Adam, how
you doing.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I'm amazing, probably better than I deserve.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
How you're doing, Josh, I'm good, Thank you, I'm good. Yeah.
I absolutely loved the conversation with Katie that we'll get into,
but have been loving all of your social media content.
Seeing you and Steve on the show, seeing you and
Avery so happy, just seems like life's going really well
(01:03):
for you.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
It's fun to share, it's fun to open up again,
like half a lifetime later. It's I almost feel like
it's just the universe having It's like you know that
it just wants to remind you to slap you around
and keep you humble every once in a while, and
I mean for me, I think it's the opposite. I
almost feel like I've had my dreams and fire inside reignited,
(01:25):
if that makes sense. Like uh, I don't know, I maybe, like,
you know, kind of Napoleon dynamitis, if a coach had
just put me in. Maybe maybe I got put into soon.
I kind of peaked a little early in life. But like,
honestly joking aside, it's like to do reality again during
a different season of your life, that like, and to
(01:47):
open up again during this like parenting season where I
have to protect my daughters but still I want them
to be entertained and know what the fan community is like.
And yeah, it's really I mean it was really, I
mean like just to launch into some like weird trivia information.
Like while I was filming Rivals, Steven had only gotten
(02:09):
episode seven or eight of All Stars. So we walk
into this thing. He comes into my hotel room and
I'm like, hey, man, you ready to You're ready to talk?
And he starts talking and doing the Steve thing like
probably about like friends, family and stuff like that. I'm like, yeah, man,
what about like the Star right? Like I totally took
(02:31):
a cut, like, so here's the edit thing. Everybody, like
everybody thinks of okay, but I wanted to tell you
let me back up all the way. So we're filming,
but like Steve and I never saw so all of
a sudden, a couple of weeks into filming, the girls
and I are talking. They're just like Dad, because they
don't really they don't do any they don't have any
screen time. They don't they don't have phones. They're nine
(02:52):
and ten years old. Yeah, like I haven't been showing
them the challenge they got to see, like, especially with
is like I mean, they were watching a little bit
of four right, Four was a little like especially being
on Paramount. Plus it wasn't edited at all, right, how
Ames and I were trying to like figure it out
and this was our first time doing it, and like
(03:13):
we wanted the kids to like anyways, so long story shorts,
they're just like Dad, the entire internet, everybody in the
world right now. I was like, why they're like because
you yelled at Steve. I was like, well, I guess
I was a little upset for like a minute there,
but they captured it and it's real and like I
apologize to Steve. I was like, because I felt like
(03:36):
all season long, and it's almost like why I had,
like why I grabbed the journal.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Because no, I loved it.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
That's okay, So the yellow one is for All Stars four,
but like, uh huh, I like pause.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Pause, sure well And also while Adams looking for this
All Stars four that was a year and a half,
two years ago, it was it was a long time
just the air, so you know, there's a lot of context,
and I remember hearing that it wasn't coming out for
for a few episodes that you guys have left in
(04:13):
the middle of the filming, so oh yeah, and there
we go with the detailed voting and everything.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Right, so like, so this is All Stars four, and
like I just kept track of every mission and like
that's in the top in like the winning the middle
versus the bottom, and like and Steve and I ended
up on opposite sides of the house. But I was like, Steve,
I'm still keeping you out. Or like when I thought
he should go in, I told him like, hey, man,
I think now is a good time to go in.
You should self nominate. He's like, no, I'm not. I'm
(04:41):
like all right, but like so we're playing still different games, right,
Like we're still friends playing but like he was roommates
with with Jay and Ace, and I was upstairs with
Ryan and Derek and Brad Rachel in the beginning Game's
moved up there Flora, So like like when you're divided
like that, you're just divided. Like I knew if I
(05:03):
was gonna I knew if I let Ryan go in
that he did like Jay was gonna win. And then
and I was like, so I tried to ask Jay.
I was like, Jay, well, you take a knee, like,
don't go down today. I promised to take a knee
on the next challenge and I will let you win.
And if he had done that, if he well he
still would have had to beat Derek. And Derek was like,
(05:23):
I didn't know slot, I did not have it in
me to like do the final. I was just kind
of like, yeah, I was like pretty beat up.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
I just remember, like because if if it was me
not giving a fuck, like when I got to A,
I could have I could have been smarter about the
unravel part in four. I could have paddled much harder
when I got there. Derek and Laurel were in the
hole and in the thing. Yeah, like I tried to
(05:52):
clip my thing avery and then Flora wasn't even involved,
so like Laurel wasn't a factor. She was gonna win
no matter what. Right were blowing in the wind somewhere right,
like well it was like the way and I was
just like if I was, if I was like truly
being competitive, I would have jumped right in that hole
with them and I would have like, I mean, I'm
(06:12):
great in water. I love water. I but like sometimes
you get beat up and so like that's why the
challenge is mental. Man, That's why, like it is so
mental to live just to be in that house for
four weeks in South Africa, Like I didn't think i'd
ever go back, like I had already won the show,
like to make it to a final and like also
(06:34):
like I think I could only win finals. It's like
part of a team, I really think, Like that Gauntlet
one win was special, Like we're the largest team ever.
Like that's kind of like a cool thing to be
a part of. I don't know, I'm not sure if
like it is like I could never be like a
Jordan with like all these single wins, like and to
play for eleven weeks. That's how long the Flagship is. Like,
(06:58):
I take my hats off everybody, I've been gone for
a long time. It's but like I'm not blind.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
I'm not sure how they do it on the Flagship
with it being so long, But it is great to
have that that kind of backstory because obviously TJ reveals
that its rivals, and I've already heard a lot of
content this season that a lot of you kind of
at least whether it was at the airport or through
(07:24):
word of mouth, like you picked up on that it
was going to be rivals, and I'm sure for you,
you know, I've never really seen aside from them like
really blowing up this thing with Steve. You don't have
anybody in the Challenge world that you haven't gotten along with,
so did you?
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Right? Fair? But for a number of reasons, we knew
he wasn't going to be coming back on the show.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
But I I could say, Hasela, I feel like if
we were to see each other now and would be
nothing but hugs. But like, yeah, Ecella and I had
a hard time working together on our original season and
we got we had a hard time working together on
Battle of the seasons, but we don't have any beef.
We're just like it would just be it would be
(08:12):
kind of like a It would just be like super
challenging to my competitive nature, right like with Steve, same
body and shape, same side, same like met both males.
Like maybe we don't agree on how to do it,
but like at least we're both going to do it right, right,
So like what a what a win getting to work
(08:34):
with somebody like that.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Yeah, and you see all the pairs matched up, what's
your what's the feeling? You know? You see the field.
You definitely have some friends from All Stars fours that
are there. Of course you have Katie and Veronica, are
you you know, I'm sure you're excited that he.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Wasn't at the airport so I didn't know about it.
We didn't know who was coming, so I was thinking
that it might just because it was also stars. I like,
whenever anybody thinks one thing, like whenever everybody thinks it's rivals,
I'm like, all right, it's going to be something else. Yeah,
So everybody was telling me it was going to be rivals,
(09:13):
and I was thinking that it was going to be
like like veterans versus OG's because it seemed like there
was people on there that it seemed like there was
people coming who even if they had even if they
weren't true like, it wasn't like they were real world
road Rules alums, right. And so for me, who's like
(09:33):
an alum, I'm used to a much smaller family. I
didn't realize how big the family had gotten with them.
Are you the one?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
And now it's just a bunch of random shows too,
It's not just the MTV shows, right, it seems.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Like it's it seems like it's more a mix of personalities, yes,
competing on like now it's a reality show doing competitive
stuff versus is it just being like competitive like the
like the flagship? Right.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
I think that's a great way to put it. And
you know, it's it's interesting in the beginning, like you're
there with and I think that's, you know, a great
way to describe the cast. You have the true like
ogs who have been like casting on the All Stars.
And then there's another group that have been consistently doing
the flagship that are thrown into All Stars here. Did
(10:29):
you had you watched any of them on their seasons?
Did you know any of these newer school kids that
were coming on to All Stars.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
So whatever has been on Netflix and Amazon over the
last two years, I would say I've been watching so
like World Championships thirty nine. There's been like I feel
like it's been like thirty eight and thirty nine. Obviously
I watched eras or forty. Yeah, And I've also been
(10:59):
keeping like this funny spreadsheet of everybody and just trying
to like learn their Instagram, Like I have no social game.
I came into the Yeah, like for all those people
who don't want to follow anybody new at datam lars
and is where I can find out more about my kids,
what avery and I already eat. No is people like
(11:19):
follow that kind of stuff these days, like it is.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
But it's like, like you just said, you're able to
go in and be like, oh, this person has kids,
this person's recently married, or on the flip side, this
person's you know, recently divorced or newly single. So look,
it does give you that edge, and I'm sure Katie
would be proud that you were at least doing that
and you know, trying to familiarize yourself with these people at.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Least this time I was, you know, but also can
I say, Josh, how nice it is not to have
like seen judged and have these preconceived notions of Like
it's very interesting when you ask somebody, so, what's your story,
Like so how did you get here? Like I maybe
being in sales for a long time, like I've developed
(12:08):
just like kind of conversation starter icebreaker questions, Right. I
really enjoy asking certain questions because I feel like then
we can tell our story. And so I like to
get to know people, even though I wanted, like Sam
and Frank out of the house, Like I spent a
lot of time getting to know Sam. Yeah, like she had.
I mean, there's just like certain like the girls and
(12:30):
Aves are super to Taylor Swift. Sam was super to
Taylor Swift, Like I got a Taylor Swift education in
Vietnam like no other. She was like on our way
to go to like see her in Switzerland or France
and New Orleans. Like we were talking about like all
these different songs. Like I went in there knowing, like
you know, the songs that the girls and I listened
(12:51):
to to, like learning about where these songs came from.
But you get to know somebody's so deep that like, hey,
maybe Sam and I will get to work together and
like at one point, you know what I mean, maybe
they'll cast both of us and now we'll have a
real friendship versus just like a hey, you hearing anything?
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Now?
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Okay? Can I count on your vote? Like? Why should
I don't believe in alliances on this on those type
of shows, because like, you can barely save yourself. How
are you gonna convince me that you can save me
except for one opportunity? Like it's like you have all
these favors and then when do you ever get to
cash them in? When do they expire? How long do
(13:29):
they last for? Is this is this an alliance or
is this just like somebody who kind of like nodded
their head without like a hand like all that stuff.
It's so much easier just not to have alliances, right.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
I think it's a really fair point. And we see
exactly what you just described end up happening here in
episode four. So it's very interesting that you say it
that way because a lot of people think, like, oh,
because I'm friends with somebody, that's an alliance, but then
their friends end up throwing them in and they go home.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
So yeah, like two times you've seen now. Yeah, and like,
I don't know how you want to like go through
the episode, but two times you've seen like me wanting
to work with BESSI me making promises of like dude,
I will you want the Star now where you think
it's going to be a target, Like I'm conversing with you.
This isn't just a promise to be an alliance. This
(14:20):
is like other than Katie and v and Nicole and
Melissa right all on the girl's side. There are no
there are no deals that I've made with anybody. I
told Leroy before I came to the show, I'll keep
your name out of my mouth that I really like
you as a person. I have no reason to come
after him. But I mean, yeah, you just like but
(14:40):
there's no alliance. I mean there's no alliances.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Right, No, no, and yeah, I think And we talked
about this in our recap this week. I thought the
pitch about Devin and Leroy in this spot was the
perfect way to shake up the house and kind of
throw in the star holders. Now, obviously the first elimination
(15:03):
you guys go into. It seems like no politics would
have helped you guys were going in and now was
that then, of course, is the second one for you.
You're sick as a dog, the bed is full of
your sweat. Yeah, do you want to talk about that
a little bit. It seemed like it came out of nowhere.
They had no foreshadowing for it at all.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Okay, So I've talked to a lot of people about
flying or traveling to anywhere like the in Asia area
or whatever, and they've been like, there's just it's different bugs.
It's like if you go to South South America, right,
You're you're dealing with a different version of the flu
and all those type of things. Well, Turbo got some
kind of respiratory infection or came with one. The entire
(15:48):
house got it, and in conjunction with you know, being
on the planes, being in tight quarters, it could have
he could have gotten it coming, We could have gotten something.
Whatever it was. We all came down with something and
I was sick for like at least two weeks. At
this point, it's at least two weeks, like sweating in
(16:11):
the bed, not having any sleep, maybe for like weeks
and weeks and weeks. Finally I became like I just
the fever. I don't remember. There's so much of it.
I didn't. I'd swore up and down to Devin and
Leroy that I never said their name, and there's video
proof of me saying their name. And I'm like, I mean,
(16:32):
I owe Devin a phone call right now. And because
I swore all my life that I didn't say their names,
and Steve was like talking to doubt. But I was delirious.
I had I was so sick, and I was like, no, man,
I'm just asking for a star holder. I'm not saying
anybody's name. But like I guess I had said somebody,
and like, man, I was gone the whole time. Maybe
that's you know how sometimes I am a little irrational,
(16:54):
or maybe I pop off a little too quick. Maybe
being sick so sick for two weeks. Yeah it saved me.
Yeah saved Maybe it saved like maybe going in is
better than getting all worked up emotionally.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
And I think you guys really got to that point
where you know, obviously the first one you're you're pissed off,
then the second one you're like, we wish we could
do something, but we get it. People see a weakness
on the show, and there there are a pack of
dogs like you're going in. But then with this third one,
you're like, no, fuck this, Like we're gonna get ahead
(17:31):
of it. We're going to figure out a way to
shape the game up so the next time we don't
have to go in. I think it was a better
way to handle it. I really do.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Thanks Lee Roy. When when that was going on, he uh,
he like kind of stopped everything that was going on
with like with like not with production obviously voting thing.
He's like, he's like, guys, I want you all to
remember this moment. He's like, I've done ump team of
these shows and I have never seen anyone handle it
(18:03):
with as much class as Steven Adam. And I get
it they're being targeted, but like you also get to
choose a way in which you're going to respond to
things in life. Yeah, Steven Adam like he's like, hats off, man.
He's like, I respect you so much more than anything
that you ever could have won in like Daily's or
eliminations or anything like that. He's like, just the way
(18:24):
you're handling this, And I was like, thanks Lee. I
mean it's a lot because you really because you have
an opportunity to show people your character in here, or
you have you have an opportunity to show people what
would make for a good TV impossible get a callback?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Yeah, and that's that is really true because a lot
of this cast we could see a and it's been
good TV so far, but the way you guys have
been thrown in would have made easily half this cast
just lose it. Uh, Like we could have seen like
physical altercations by now, but A yeah, and that's the
(19:00):
beauty of all Stars, even Steve, aren't that people? You know,
you provide the entertainment in different ways. The elimination wins
thus far have been super impressive. What did you did?
You and Steve kind of talk about the fact that
these eliminations were going to have to be different since
there were guy guy pairs as well as girl girl pairs.
(19:21):
Yea learn any discussion about that.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Well, not just on the eliminations but also in the
actual dailies as well. We just kind of we said,
like both of us just kind of being like the
nerds that we are. Yeah, We're like, hey, let's always
have two ways of doing this. That way when it
doesn't work, we are already pivoting into something. So like
(19:45):
we both tried the like on the very first challenge,
we tried this thing where I was loading Steve up
and he wanted me to drag him. Well, it was
so rocky that I would have torn him apart. We
actually had to take like eleven or twelve trips. I
think Fessi and Amber took five or six. Wanted me
to load him up, but like I had, I mean,
(20:09):
I would have pulled out my back on the first
time to lift. And we only had twelve inches in between.
So somebody's in the pit and then somebody's laying down
next to it on the mud and you're scooping him up.
So on the second one, I was like Steve, instead
of like trying to scoop it all up in stand
up together and keep it at like a like a
V between us. I'm just gonna lean over, use my
(20:30):
arms as like sides, use me as a wheelbarrow, all
laid down. We'll get up together. Because he'll be in
the pit. I would be on my knees next to
the pit, so he could load up my back. I
could kind of help keep it all in then just
use my arms as like handles. And I mean, thank
goodness they didn't show me that way there would have
(20:50):
been more Adam and Steve jokes than like I could
have ever handled. But like that pulled my back out,
having like tens of like probably about fifty pounds of
mud on your back a dozen times, and then doing
that next challenge where we're holding each other out over
the skyscraper, hold something in my back and I couldn't
even like I couldn't even climb up the ladder in
(21:12):
the elimination, Like I wasn't just sick, I was like destroyed.
My poor old bambody. Should you take a pre workout
for these eliminations and challenges? I was like, no, maybe
on the main show. On this one, I take twelve
eccentri before I do everything.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Yeah, we see it. You're really going through it, and uh,
it's it's nice that there was some conversation about the uh,
the dailies and the eliminations because a lot of us,
like when the cast came out, the pairs and everything,
we were like, oh, okay, I mean, it's it's good
that there's this variety. It's not all guy girl or
(21:52):
guy guy and girl girl. But we definitely knew that
we weren't going to be getting like you and Steve
going down the hall against John Ay and Beth in
that first elimination, So they were gonna have to have
fair competitions throughout this, uh this season, and uh yeah,
it does make for different strategies and stuff like that. Yeah,
(22:14):
it was. It was interesting. In this episode we see
the eighties prom night, and I'm I've been told throughout
some of these seasons. You guys get told of some
of the theme nights in advance, so you know what
to bring. Was that the case with this uh prom night?
Speaker 2 (22:32):
So the outfit that Nicole is wearing is the outfit
that I brought. I always bring a top gun flight
suit everywhere I go, just because you never want to
be unprepared.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
No, it's funny. I have like I feel like I
collected things as we went along. Yeah, it's like a
there's like a bag of stuff in here that I
have things that I collected. There's a there's a bunch
of stuff in the closet, the gold jacket, the Devin
was I think the tuxedo. Corey really dressed up. And
(23:07):
then we were also going to throw a bride old
party or b like a like a shower for Kelly
An and so like Katie and them had planned this
whole thing from the get go, where like bring your
an eighties stuff, We're going to do this, and so
like we also did like a production party because like
kelly An left, but that was going to be like
the whole bride what are they called not bride'smaids? Yeah,
(23:30):
what are the bachelor party? I'm sorry, I had a
brain fart. I couldn't remember that they were going to
do a bachelorette party for her, so.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Oh that would have been great.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I know, we had tons of stuff, and I had
like Kelly Ann and Sylvia's like downs that they left
behind to take home for the girls, and they just
wentn't fitted my luggage, but I took like a bunch
of other stuff home. So we'll end up taking home
a sweater of bets and I was like, oh, this
is kind of cool. The girls will like it. So
I gave it to him and they just didn't ever
wear it. Thank god. It was a gift from her husband.
(24:01):
It was like a seven and fifty dollars sweater that
she went out and bought another one so that he
wouldn't know. Finally, she tracked down, like production was like,
you need to figure this out, like, look at your cameras.
This is a gift from my husband. She found out
that I had gotten it or whatever, call me and
I was like, oh yeah, let me send that over
to it's in the girl's closet somewhere. She's like, Adam,
(24:22):
it's a gift for my husband. It cost almost a
thousand dollars. I was like, Beth, this is probably sitting
at the bottom of some little girls like stinky undie closet.
I'm so sorry. Oh my goodness.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Anyway, No, this may make you think twice about taking
something from somebody now, but this is why I love
doing these.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
You know, I didn't steal it. These were in empty
cupboards like oh like and stuff like that, like they
were I didn't yet, but a.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Beth didn't keep track of it.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
So after Beth had lost in the elimination, I grabbed that.
I found that in her closet and so there was.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Wow, that is fun. That's a dang that is ah,
that's an expensive little piece to lose there.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
So it pairs very well with a pair with thirty
year old jeans, would you not would you not disagree?
Speaker 1 (25:16):
No, it pairs great. With thirty year old jeans and
I wanted to. I love that you brought her back
up again. You know, it seems like a lot of
you from that All Stars four group. We've interviewed Ryan
a number of times on this podcast. He speaks so
highly of you and Avery. Uh and then it seems like,
you know, you, Steve and Nicole were friendly and All
(25:37):
Stars four definitely seems like a friendly face for you
guys on the show. What is it like about or
what is it about Nicole that like, you know, you
guys are friends about, Like what is it with her?
You know, because she's.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
She's one of the guys and fair, but like so
is Avery. Like if you like, if you actually sit
down and get to know Avery, like that's why she's
so tight with Derek and Ryan. She can also dress
it up, you know what I'm saying, And so can Nicole,
Like they're they're also beautiful. But with Nicole, she's just
(26:14):
one of those type of people who's got like stly
really really really strong character. Like even when I would
be like, hey, I need you, not I need you
to like vote for Steve and I, You're causing more drama,
bringing more attention onto yourself, like they're just gonna throw
us both in against each other. I need you to like,
so I was trying. I was actually learning the game
and trying to help her. She's like myself and that
(26:34):
she's used to being able to physically dominate her way
through to get to a final and that's how I
was a long time ago. And I'm not that person
where I can like run a marathon tomorrow without like
I don't have I can't physically dominate anybody anymore, so
or I don't think I can. But like you know
what I'm saying, Like I'm I'm past my, I'm past
(26:56):
my physically. She's like a fire She's just doing such
cool things with her life. I wish i'd become a firefighter.
I like started to go through the courses and the
tests and everything in Los Angeles and just like my
life's played out differently. But I really there's just something
I admire about her. The kids really love her, so
like I feel like whoever my kids are into at
the moment, like I kind of try a little bit
(27:17):
extra hard. And Laurel's been there to like talk to
Hunter about like becoming a veterinarian. Ryan and Derek, Like
everybody is like whoever I call up and I'm like, hey,
would you talk to the girls? They have like this
extended an uncle network out there, at least so far.
That's so beautiful. It's a I'm like, really really just
(27:39):
going back like and being able to offer some kind
of like new perspective. Like for the girls to even
get this perspective of their father is really kind of weird.
It's really like, I hope that it's expanding them so
that they go and chase their own dreams later in life.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
That's a beautiful thing. And it's, like you meant earlier
in the recording, the fact that you now have this
new time, this new chapter in your life that you're
recording the show in. You know, the girls get to
watch it as the fans are watching it, Your biggest
fans are watching with your other fans. I mean, that's
(28:16):
just it's an amazing thing. And how cool for them
to see you dominate in the first three episode or
first four episodes because no one went in in episode one.
You know, that's got to be awesome. Were they just
were they in awe or were they expecting you to
kick some ass?
Speaker 2 (28:34):
I feel like we should ask them girls. Hunter, Harlow,
you got a question. Jessh has a question for you.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
This is Josh some special guests High Hunter. Hi Harlow,
were you expecting your dad to win as many eliminations
as he has been thus far in the show?
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Expecting him to lose on the first round?
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Blunt kids? Wow?
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Yeah, I mean that's what I'm telling you. That's what
they think about me, Josh, and so it's really nice
to go back on there. And I mean, Harlow, how
old am I these days? Eighty six eightyur? This is
the treatment. I'm Dino dad at home. I'm like, there's
no they have no idea that I that I'm a
(29:30):
that I wanted a championship with, like when I was
in my twenties and then I used to be.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Humor and done somebody that was good. Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Yeah, yeah, do you have anything? Only one thing made
history in your time? Dinosaurs?
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Not So.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Hunter made these cool little bracelets. We'll have to do
you want to make one for She's got a podcast
you can send it to. So she made these like
cool little bracelets and I've got this picture of her
putting it on me right at the airport. She made
twenty three more of them for the cast because we
thought there was only going to be twenty four of us,
so we we came up too short. But I gave
(30:08):
them out to everybody, and I like on Katie and
I as master talk master. You can see that she's
wearing hers.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
That is too sweet. Yeah, I mean look at that.
See trying to influence friends right away through through your daughters.
That's great.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Oh yeah, I use I used them completely.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
It's uh yeah, we really was doing that too. I
feel like a lot of you parents are are like, hey,
don't send me in.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I have kids, exactly. This is this is my pity party.
Anything else you want to tell Josh or do you guys?
So you guys did not expect me to do very well.
You speak, but I didn't expect you to what Okay.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
What was hilarious was that Daria was like this, I
thought this was the challenge, not a nursery.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Okay. So we've seen with that win the first elimination,
send me win the second list elimination, and that's what
the one you thought I was definitely gonna lose. You can't,
just so you know, you can't spoil the next elimination.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Yeah, you can't.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Who's going to go in? I don't trust you. I
just shows like, you know, tell me what you want
to say? No hands, I know, okay, And we have
to do this. Can we do this after the podcast? Well,
you got to meet the kids. You see, I have
(31:35):
zero pleasure.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
And pleasure.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Not only do I have zero control in this household,
but I also have zero respect.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Oh come on, it's imitation through flattery at them and.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
They're amazing.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Yeah, oh my god, and I that was so funny.
Thank you for bringing them on. So again, like we
talked about earlier, you know, Katie's pitching you know, as
we get closer to the house about this idea of like,
you know, try to throw in a different star holder.
At this point, and even on all starts four, we
didn't know what was going to happen when two star
(32:13):
holders went in against each other.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
And that was our thing because I I thought that
even on the first elimination, yep, that we were going
to get to move a star of some sort. I
knew that because as a star holder, you can't have
an extra one right to just come to just come back.
Was like, all right, well, Steve stole my star so
that's like, what do you like eighty percent of what
(32:37):
you think is going to happen is probably what's happened
to you in the past. Like history doesn't always repeat,
but it rhymes, and like, all right, so how is
TJ going to do this one? So both Steve and
I were really surprised, and we're like all right, but
like we like that's why we all of a sudden changed,
like we want to go in against a star holder.
Like I heard that Anissa has been saying that I
(32:57):
was actually asking for her and maybe with like just
like I had to apologize about Devin and I to
come out of my mouth. I really only thought I
was asking for star holders because I thought at least
if we took the star holders type of thing, that
we could move it. Once I realized that if we
went against a non star holder, all we did was
extra work.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
And you know what, we haven't heard anything to say
the otherwise to this point in the show, obviously, so
maybe that is what happens. And yeah, maybe that is.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
I'm not I'm not spoiling anything because I'm telling you
when all that money is on the line and you're
trying to figure out the rules and TJ won't answer
certain questions. That's part of it. That's part of it, right,
So like I don't. I'm definitely like I like how
they change up the rules every single time if it
was the same course or if it was the same Like,
(33:50):
it is fun to see how you have to like
learn to roll with the punches.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Sure, and it's uh, it's great because we see and
this has been all season and so maybe some of
these have a little bit of a different spin on it.
But fessal a namber of one two of the dailies
at this point, and with every episode we have been
getting nothing. When the team that's going in against you
(34:15):
goes in, it seems like a lot of the house
is shocked. A lot of people here were surprised it
was Ashley and Anissa, So they're ending up going in
against you here in this interesting jungle to say the least.
But I see referencing the notebook.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Well, I just wanted to like look in it for
a second, I bet, But like, do you have questions
about that because you just hit on something I would
just like to like, yeah, verify it. So going into
the jungle, Like sometimes you give people heads up that
what's going to be going on, but they wouldn't tell
Steve and I anything whether or not who we were
(34:52):
asking for was going to be given. And they didn't
even tell the people who were going in, so they
were blind siding everyone. So like so like double blind side,
like all that's why I had myself like I'm not
sure if you could tell, but it's just like getting
really amped up, yeah, because I was ready for whatever
was going to be thrown at us.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
And we're not even seeing and it's not like the
show can use any footage to say why these people
are going in. If they're not telling anybody, then it's
just like, Okay, they're going in, and we have no
footage to you know, we've got nothing in confessional to
say why. You know, we do get a little bit
of like Anissa does have a lot of friends between
(35:35):
the All Stars people that she's done shows with. Of
course she does a ton of seasons now, so when
everyone's your friend, a lot of the times on these shows,
no one is your friend. And that's, at least in
my eyes, that's what happened here. I don't know if
you had anything else to add to that. But that's
what I thought.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
I mean, I didn't know about the stuff on the
on the previous shows where like he had wanted to
be your partner in a thing like that. But just
from like this pure game like game strategy for for
All Stars five or for Rivals, it was so obvious
that le Roy and Nonny being from the same season,
are working, I mean, and then Leroy Devin team right,
(36:16):
Devin to a Nissa team, Like I think what FeSi
saw on that is like, hey, it looked like a
layup to Adam, Like we're giving them an easy team
and I can break up this other alliance. And so
like I'm sure he kind of took responsibility for that.
I don't know what he said about it so far,
but like that's what made sense to me. And I
(36:38):
was just like, man, if you can't even give me
what I'm asking for, how can I trust you? I like,
you could be our number one, Yeah, we could, we
could dominate, and so like two opportunities to just give
us what we asked for. He made a definitive chance,
not to like a definitive choice.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
And they're both we see the four of you sitting
down when you're originally pitching Devin and Leroy, they're both
thinking about it hard and they're looked like.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
That to me too, exactly. I went back to Stephen,
I was like, I was like, man, I think like
Bessie and Amber that we're going to ride with them
this whole season. That's that's who it is. Because we
knew that Steve and Nicole, we knew they were going
to throw Katie and Veronica against us because it just
made sense to get rid of that. We knew that
they weren't going to make it to the end. We
(37:27):
love them, but like unless they're winning dailies and like
trivia or something like that, Like it was just really hard,
you know what I'm saying. Like, and then you've got
somebody else like like they wanted to like they should
have the very first one should have been Melissa Nicole
against us. Yeah, it would have been a huge reveal
because everybody was given Nicole a hard time. I went
(37:49):
up to and I was like, huh, what's wrong. She's like,
I can't talk to you right now. I'm being accused
of like giving you information. And I was like, we
haven't even gotten to speak. I've been like she's like,
that's what's going on. I'm like, what are you talking about.
She's like, just we got to stay away from each
other right now. And I'm like, okay, I don't even
know how to play this game. Nobody told me anything.
Then Veronica takes me aside and it's just like, Adam,
(38:11):
you need to sit down. I'm like okay. She's like
this is what and I was just like leave it
to Veronica.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
She like, leave it to me.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Yeah. She's Charlotte's web web Like she knows everything that's
coming in and out of that farm.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
And it happens. You know, it still happened today in
the modern seasons. Of course, she was the queen of
the political game back in the day, and I love
that she gave you guys that heads up and kind
of pinted it on the cole It was masterclass. It
was you know, I enjoined a call on the show,
but this was it was great. I loved it. Just
(38:49):
seeing Veronica at work, it was awesome.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Veronica at work is a like you you just noticed
sit back and let her do it. Yeah, yeah, watching
kind of like all right, it is a mess.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
You and Steve know, you're like, look, we've got Ronica
and Katie. We know that they're not voting us in.
We're not going to throw them in. We'll let the
girls do the political work. We'll muscle it out in
the dailies, and uh, you know it's the great pairings.
So I uh, I am curious though, when you guys
walked up to this elimination, because you've had some some
(39:26):
pretty interesting ones so far, did you have any clue
what this daily was going to be? You see the hose,
you see the cages before the elimination, not Daily, right,
the elimination?
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Yeah, yeah, no, the tanks and thin like we're wondering
if it was gonna be like really fast and like
All Stars is a whole lot more like puzzling and
positioning and setting yourself up for some kind of like
(39:57):
if I was to go into it right now, I'd
be like, all right, how is this elimination set up
so that it can embarrass.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Somebody or make them laugh? Or like you gotta be
thinking when you walk into an elimination, what what eight
year old backyard birthday game does this remind me of?
Because it's like a small derivation of musical chairs that.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Is the best way to describe it, because like, like
we've mentioned already, you know, there's definitely gonna be eliminations
and really all of them, and the dailies that are
going to have to be more even. And I was
shocked here. I mean, you know, it didn't seem that
Anissa and Ashley were in the lead after that first round.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
That's such a great thing. Okay, So here's here's here's
the behind the scenes that I can give you. So
I use the shield to deflect the water back into
our tub because like the hose alone wasn't coming out
with a fast enough philosophy, so velocity whatever blocks so
(41:05):
like that and like and Steve and I. That's the
thing about Steve and I is like all of a sudden,
I was able to be like, hey, man, use the
shield just to deflect the water, Like, stay in one
position with your back to this thing and put it
into like you'll miss a couple holes or whatever, but
just keep on moving around. Like he got off. He's like, hey,
if you like, if you can go for her face
and like mess with her, mess with their goggles or whatever.
(41:26):
And if you see me, my hands were going nut.
I was like.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
Corner corner, corner, corner, corner, corner. I was shooting right
in between her things. But I'm telling you, as soon
as we did that star thing where we deflected all
the water and but even production, they were like, whose
idea was it? I was like, you know what, that's
the thing about Steve and I neither one of us
need to take credit for it. Like we just communicate
(41:51):
NonStop about all of our ideas and like we don't
shut up. We're talking so much that it's hard for
other teams to to talk to each other because we're
so ohow, Like do you remember seeing like it used
to be?
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Like the fuck?
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Because definitely that's because of the entire time I'm sitting
there running my mouth and like it's really frustrating.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
It may be frustrating, but at the same time, in
these partner seasons, a gigantic piece of it is communication
to your partner. So if you find a strategy that works,
why not tell your partner? Would you rather be flying
home from Vietnam or would you rather tell your partner
what the right thing to do is in the elimination?
(42:32):
But no, I'm sure for her, you know, we we
see Ashley take off the goggles, which I still don't
understand why that happened. If even if they're fogged up,
that's better than being without them, because forget it were.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
A lot of slack for this. I don't think she
was trying to go home.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
It almost like yes, No, I don't think so either.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
I don't think that that was like I think it
was just like a decision in the moment, m h,
like get these things off me right, like yeah, and
then oh my gosh, like this this thing is so
much like like I wish i'd just put them down
around my neck or something, and then you she didn't
have a chance.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
To recover, and I thought that there the reason. I
don't think there's two reasons we have seen Ashley. And
I don't know if you were watching the show back
in season thirty two, but Ashley won an elimination, uh
slamming her head into a cinder block. Like this woman
has done crazy things to win eliminations, win the show,
(43:37):
win dailies. She doesn't quit.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
I need to see it. I need to see an
Ashley compilation, because that's the thing you don't see. I
wish that there was like a TV because you know,
we don't get technology. I wish there was like a
room that actually had like a TV and it just
ran all of our clips that we had done stuff.
That way, we would get all the drama that we
had all done that exactly. Nobody wanted to actually want to
(44:00):
watch that room, but it would be there for research.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
I'll send it to you because it's it's the season
that she takes the money. Of course that's everyone knows
her for it, but she she does never she never
gives up. And the thing why did.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
Hunter not like her? Why was he mean to her?
But because like I heard that she like he was
like very like cruel and berating and like even like
kind of like like shaming her. It's miscuous and just
like completely in a broke like why was he so
worked up about her?
Speaker 1 (44:33):
It's a whole thing, and with some of it, alcohol
is the enemy just like a okay, a lot of
the challenge. But he he really was really rough to
her on that season, and I wasn't surprised that she
took the money and the end. But that could be
its own separate podcast with how much history there is there,
(44:56):
So you guys win again, we get the low blow
from tjdu about the shoes. Is there any behind the
scenes about that. Have you been wearing the shoes? Were
you wearing them because there was a water elimination?
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Yeah, I mean like Steven steven I's bags. So once
we got thrown in the first week, we would bring
our water shoes. We would bring all of our old
man tape like most people just like get dressed. We
like would pack our bat like we knew we were
always the target. So like we unpacked the first day
(45:33):
and everything like in all the covers and then had
to They're like because when you're in the house voat
you have to pack back back up. And so never
unpacked again.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
Just stayed packed, stayed packed so you didn't very sick
in bed, so it didn't even matter.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
But like, yeah, we got I kept. I decided to
wear those shoes because I thought it'd be good for
the water shoes and that way my shoes wouldn't be
it wouldn't be wouldn't be soaking went for the daily
the next day if we did win. So that's what
my head was, and I thought it would be good
because you know, that way they're not soaking up too
much water. I thought it'd be smart and TJ clownby
(46:12):
man and I was I was like, at first, I
was like kind of going along with him. I'm like yeah, yeah, yeah,
And then and then he did again. I was like,
I was like, teach whatever, scoreboard man, three in a row,
you can suck it. You might want a pair like
they didn't show any You're like, I missed that moment.
I missed the first response. But then all of a sudden,
(46:34):
when I realized he really was making fun of me,
I was like, hey, whatever, if it's helping us win,
I'm not changing anything right now. I could be pink underwear.
I actually did.
Speaker 5 (46:44):
There was a this was my lucky uh a picture
of the girls that I had in my in my shorts,
like and ever on uh on every win.
Speaker 1 (46:57):
That's that's awesome. And look, maybe now when you and
Avery go double date with TJ and Roxanne, maybe Roxanne
will be wearing the shoes.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
I don't think so. I think I've definitely I came
home and got a much a much more like stealthy pair,
not just like your big, blocky, gray, ugly dad pair
that look like moon boots. Maybe's right, maybe I got
to get a little bit more style going especially trying
to keep up with the kids these days.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
Look what you and Steve have been doing is working.
You're taking everybody out left and right. And we get
a preview for next week's episode. Looks like some sort
of you know, telling the truth or answering what the
house may think. See a lot of people throwing up,
So it looks like some gross food eatings coming our way,
(47:46):
which people either love or hate to see on the show. Yeah,
I'm looking forward to the rest of this season. I
hope you start to feel better. I know you can't
spoil any thing, but man, it looks like.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
I'm doing way better already. Like maybe I just remember
being down and out for a while, and uh that
was that was a but you know, with the with
the with one show air in every couple of weeks
or whatever, it really kind of drags it out. It's like, man,
all right, where was I at? And it's it's fun
getting the glimpse of like their perspective of how it
happened and hearing all these conversations like I was in
(48:25):
I was in bed sick. Unfortunately I missed a lot
of this stuff. And that that, uh, that Dario and
Devin fight I can't wait to watch it because like
I didn't get to see it going around the first
time you know we heard it, it woke me up.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
You were like, I'll break your whoa what.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
I mean it got louder than that, Like wait, I
mean that will be a good one to give you
some behind the behind the scenes next week. But boy,
some of these people on the show, they got some
strong personality.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Yes, yes, they certainly do. I was, you know, I'm
looking forward to seeing how that built up and everything.
I did want to ask, you know, now that we're
through the recap, were there? So there were people obviously
on this season you've never met before. Who's somebody that
you had never met that like really was like a
(49:23):
pleasant surprise to you or just like a nice person
to hang out with.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Everyone.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
But like.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
I was roommixed with Melissa. So let me just maybe
this conversation. Let me start with Melissa. She is she
has a she's just a warrior. It's like one of
those people who like really like stood in there and
like stood for their family and like is raising and
she's like a strong mom just like really doing a
(49:54):
great job. Very impressed by her, just like trying to
help her trying to help her dad, trying to her brother,
just and she's very like she understands mental health a lot,
and she's like doing a lot of work and like
she's trying to help a lot of other people, which
I really liked. I would say that Turbot was so interesting,
(50:16):
so interesting, and what a nice like cultural insert into
like into the challenge, where like it would be nice
to kind of understand his background almost in that real
world sort of sense, like growing up in the streets
at fifteen, like as a dancer and like having to
like like help his family and like like I think
he basically made his mad made it on a show,
(50:39):
so like so you think you could dance for America's
got talent and like to sit there and talk to
him about what being on a show in Europe is,
like he's just got He's like a very very very
interesting person. A lot of these people are like not
just survivors, but like true like they're constantly they're never
not going to win. And I didn't understand that about
(51:02):
like Car Marine and I gotten a huge beef and
one of the things was like I was like I
don't want to be the car Maria show about like
hearing about how you're gonna win in the final, it
just seems a little narcissistic to me. And then I realized,
like that's part of the game. Like when you go
into the house, you can either be there for the
experience or you could be there for the game. And
if you are there for the game, and if you
(51:23):
want to be a champion, you've won before, you know
the benefits of just treating it like a game, because
like it's it's way more healthy.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
To do that.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
Oh yeah, you can't win the game and make friends
with everybody, right, Anissa, No you can't. Though I couldn't
like that, But what's a sure win to me is
going there and making friends with everybody because you know
you're gonna have a great experience.
Speaker 1 (51:48):
And I think you summed it up really really well.
It's in these games like if you get to the
end and you win, you're inherently going to piss someone off.
But everyone knows that. But on the same token end
in MTV world too, for some people they go on
these shows, it's an amazing experience. They're able to thrive
(52:10):
after the show. Then there's other people who finish the
show and it tail spins their life and they let
it ruin them. So if you treat it like a game,
it does help have a healthier relationship with the show,
at least from a fan perspective.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
No one, and I think the fans want us to
treat it as a game at.
