Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, Praise God, Praise God. This is your friend and host,
Pastor Caleb Santos, and I greet you in the precious
name of Jesus. Praise God. It's such a joy to
be with you again. Amen. And we are going to
talk about the life of David Part two. The Life
(00:52):
of David Part two and now our last study. We
saw that one thing about David was known for his praise.
He used to spend hours praised in God. But what
some people may not realize that the praise itself gave
David the strength to face the lion and to face
(01:17):
the bear. I mean, when you think about it, I mean,
when you see a lion and a bear, they weigh
about five hundred pounds if I'm not mistaken, sometimes even more.
But David was a tough guy and he faced his
lion and he faced the bear. Amen. And we're going
(01:41):
to see a couple of things here about David, and
that's going to be amazing. I sit back and enjoy,
because this is going to be a good Bible study.
It's going to be a Bible study that's going to
open your eyes and give you, give you a wonderful insight,
wonderful encouragement. Amen. And let's look at first Samuel seventh. Well,
(02:07):
let's look at first of all, let's look at the
source of David's praise. Okay, we're going to review that
Daniel eleven thirty two and such as do wickedly against
the covenant? Shall he corrupt by flatries? But I want
to focus on the second sentence here. But the people
that do know that God shall be strong and do exploits.
(02:27):
There's people like us, people like you, like me, They
will be strong and do exploits. A lot of times
we think that it's just spiritual strength, strength to help
you to go through trials and tribulation. But think about it.
David spent time in the field with his sheep. David
was writing songs to the Lord. David had a heart
(02:50):
to praise the Lord. That's why the Lord said that
David was a man after his own heart. So what
happened here? David was protecting the sheep. And let's look
at first Samuel, chapter seventeen, verse thirty four and thirty five.
It says, and David said, unto Saul, the servant kept
(03:15):
his father's sheep. And there came a lion and a
bear and took a lamb out of the flock. And
I went out after him. Can you imagine there is
a lion and a bear took a lamb out of
the flock. He came, he went after those those creatures,
after those animals, and smote him and delivered it out
(03:36):
of his mouth. He took it out of the mouth
of their mouth. And when he rose against me, I
caught him by his beard and smote him and slew him.
I mean, this guy was a tough guy. I mean,
think about it. You know, we think about Samson that
went and opened the lion's mouth and killed the lion.
But I mean this guy, he fought a bear, and
(03:58):
he fought a lion, and and and and see here's
the thing. When you see that David was concerned about
this philistine that was, uh, this philistine, giant goliath that
was ordering all this. Uh, these threats. I mean he
he looked and said, who is this uncircumcised uh philistine
that is uttering all these threats? See he he was
(04:21):
covenant minded. He was praising the Lord, and he was
covenant mind. Let me tell you, your praise will do
wonders for you. Your praise will help you to do exploits.
Your praise will let will loosen the signs and wonders
to operate within your life. Let me tell you, if
you lose your praise, you lose the battle. Again. Let
(04:44):
me tell you, if you lose your praise and worship you,
you lose the battle. You want to be strong. The
joy of the Lord is your strength. And the joy
of the Lord. David I must mist imagine he must be.
He must have and dancing, writing songs, joyfully doing what
he was doing, tending the sheep. And one day he
(05:07):
goes to his brothers and sees this giant uttering things
against Israel, threats against Israel. Let's look at first Samuel seventeen,
and let's look at four through seven. This is from
the Living Bible. First Samuel seventeen, four through seven. Then Goliath,
a Philistine champion from Gaff came out of the Philistine
(05:30):
ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was a
giant of a man, measuring over ninety feet tall. So
Frankenstein or the Hope weren't the only giant. This was
the probably one of the original giants out here. And
he wore a bronze helmet, a two hundred pound coat
(05:50):
of mail, bronze leggings, and carrier bronze javelin several inches thick,
tipped with a twenty five pound eye in spearhead, and
his armor bearer walked ahead of him with a shield.
He stood and shouted across to the Israelis do you
need a whole army to settle this? I will represent
(06:11):
the Philistines, and you choose someone to represent you, and
we will settle this in a single combat. If your
man is able to kill me, then we will be
your slaves. But if I kill him, then you must
be our slaves. I defy the armies of Israel. Send
me a man who will fight with me. And see,
I really believe that he was probably aiming to fight
(06:35):
against Saul, King Saul, because King Saul. When you see
the description of King Saul, he stood tall. He was
a tall man too, so I think he was calling
his attention. But look go what happened here first, Samuel seventeen.
Let's start at verse eleven. When Saul and the Israeli
army heard this, they were dismayed and frightened. David, the
(06:58):
son of aging Jesse, a member of the tribe of
Judah who lived in Beckleham, had several older brothers. The
three oldest, eliab, Abinadab, and Shama, had ready volunteered for
Saul's army to fight the Philistines. David was the youngest
son and was on Sauf's staff on a part time
(07:19):
based basis. He went back and forth to Becklehem to
help his father with the sheep for forty days, twice
a day, morning and evening. The Philistine giant strutted before
the armies of Israel. So here is forty days. There's
something about forty days. Forty days represents testings. And here
(07:40):
was this giant, uttering, strets, utterings, all these things, all
these things, but probably even persing Israel by his gods.
And looking verse seventeen, one day Jesse said to David,
take this bush of roasted grain, and these ten loaves
of bread, your brothers give this cheese to their captain
(08:02):
and see how the boys are getting along, and bring
us a letter from them. So on, the Israeli army
were camped at the Valley of Ita. So David left
the sheep with another shepherd and took off early the
next morning with the gifts. Now, when he arrived here,
he heard the sound and they were saying, have you
seen The soldiers were asking have you seen the giant?
(08:23):
The soldiers were asking, this is a verse twenty five.
He has insulted the entire army of Israel. And have
you heard about the huge reward the king has offered
to anyone who kills them, And the king will give
them one of his daughters for a wife, and his
whole family will be exempted from paying taxes. See, here's
the thing I want you to hear, And this is
probably the most important message you could hear, the most
(08:48):
important message of the day. You're testing has a reward. Again,
you're testing has a reward of remember fortys sense testing,
And here is the reward. To pass the tests. David
will marry the King's daughter, and his whole family will
(09:10):
be acted exempted from paying taxes. So, in other words,
it has a personal benefit. David is going to marry
the King's daughter and the family is going to be blessed.
You're passing the tests. You're passing the test the testings,
and the tribulation will not only benefit you, but will
(09:31):
also possibly benefit your family, because here is the forty days,
which represents trials and testings and the reward and passing
the tests that you're in. Let me tell you there's
a great reward. God has a great reward not only
for you, but for your family or for maybe people
(09:51):
around you. You could even be rewarded in the sense
that you could affect your whole community. Let me tell
you God, God, you know we only see him part,
but God sees the whole picture. I notice here David.
On verse twenty six, David talked to some other standing
there to verify the report. What will a man go
(10:12):
get for killing this philistine and ending his insults to Israel?
He asked him who is this heathen philistine? And the
King James says, who is this uncircumcised philistine? Anyway that
he is allowed to defy the armies of the Living God. See,
David was covenant minded. David trusted in the Lord David
saw how the Lord had given him strength to kill
(10:35):
the bear, to kill the lion, and he was confident
that God will doing again. We'll do it again. See
a lot of times when we go through trials, when
we go through problems that are affecting us, we tend
to think this is it. I'm going to throw in
the towel. But God wants you to go through memory lane.
God wants you to rehearse the times that He still
(10:56):
has delivered you. And he knew in his heart. David
knew in his that God was going to do it again.
And if you notice here, you notice here what happened.
David ran to his giant and said something. They let's
see what he said. Okay, Let's see what he said
(11:16):
to the giant. Okay. And David said, on verse forty five,
you come to me with a sword and a spear,
But I come to you in the name of the
Lord of the Armies of Heaven of Israel, the very
God whom you have defiled today. The Lord will conquer you,
and I will kill you and cut off your head,
(11:37):
and will give the dead bodies of your men to
the birds and wild animals, and the whole world would know,
will know that there is a God in Israel, and
Israel will learn that the Lord does not depend on
weapons to fulfill his plans. He works without regard to
human means. He will give you to us. And see,
David didn't have any fancy armor. David went walking and
(12:01):
God showed them five smooth stones, and out of the
five smooth stones, he took a stone, and that was
the very stone that gave him the victory. Amen. Now
five symbolizes grace. You need grace to get through your trials.
You need grace to get through your testings. Sometimes we
want to throw in the towel. Sometimes we want to
(12:21):
give up. But let's learn from David. Let's rehearse the
past victories. Let's rehearse the times that God has had
delivered us. Let's be covenant minded. See that's what David was.
Covenant minded. He said something, and he ran to his giant.
When you run to your giant, don't run to your
giant with your mouth shut. Say something, say prophesied, prophesies.
(12:45):
In fact, say something prophesied unto that problem you have
lack of money, prophesies to that lack of problem. You
have problems with your health, prophesied to your to your body. Amen.
You have trouble with your mind, with your thoughts, prophesied
to your thoughts, Amen, and bind those thoughts. Amen, run
(13:06):
and say something. Declare the promises of God, because all
the promises of God are yay and Amen. It's easier
said than done. But let me tell you when you run,
when you stop procrastinating, you run to your problem, face
your problem, face it, face to face, knowing that God
is going to give you the victory. And what do
(13:28):
we see here? If you say, if you see the
accounts of First Samuel, chapter seventeen, we see victory. David
had the victory. He had thrown the stone the rock,
and it hit the giant right between the eyes, and
he cut his head off, just like he prophesied. Let
me tell you words are powerful, but when you spend
(13:51):
time in the presence of God, you can do anything God.
David knew that if necessary, God would have given him
the strength to fight that giant hand to hand. And
you know what David would have won. Let me tell
you tell you, Samson was not the only guy that
did great exploits with his strength. David was another one.
(14:13):
He probably was even stronger than Samson. Who knows. But
let me tell you the people that we see in
the Bible, they will rugged people. They did exploits, and
you will do two exploits. When you trust in the Lord,
spend your time thanking God, spend your time praising God.
Don't look at the situation. All you have to do
(14:33):
is ask the Lord for one time, one time, whatever
you need. If you need money, if you need finances,
if you need, like for example, finances to pay your bills,
if you need to be healed, if you need if
you're having trouble controlling your thoughts, if you're having trouble
with your flesh, all you have to do is ask
God for help, and then the rest of the time
(14:55):
just give him thanks. Don't pray the problem, pray the answer. Amen.
So that's my word for today. Look at the life
of David. Don't lose your praise. Well, praise the Lord.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. It's the weekend
and people are looking forward to the weekend. Amen, Praise God.
(15:17):
So I pray that you all have a wonderful weekend.
And the Lord, and remember you have the mind of Christ.
Be blessed.
