(00:21):
get some green. Hey everybody, welcome to Queen Comedy Podcast.
It's JD. I'm back and oh hi, Oh, how you doing.
We are in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania this week, and
then we're gonna have a long break, but don't worry.
I'm gonna still do a follow up podcast, probably Saturday night,

(00:42):
so it gets released on Tuesday. Come back to almost
seth before my birthday and then head to Grant. Came
in from July eleventh to the twentieth of My birthday
is July tenth. If you want to wish me happy
birthday on Instagram or something, that'd be awesome. No need to,
don't feel like you have to. But it's the forty
four birthday. And then I'm announcing it here, but I

(01:03):
was gonna announce it on my actual birthday. My goal
is to be in the best shape physical shape of
my life since I was like eighteen to twenty two
at forty five, so I'm gonna spend the next year
getting in shape. I've been work starting a kind of
now where I'm walking, eating different that kind of stuff.
I'm off of energy drinks, but I am on these

(01:24):
things called element drinks, which is a magnesium, sodium, and potassium,
because I found after doing some research that I'm probably
short in those things. And I'll tell you right now,
I run so much better on those that I ever
did on energy drinks. So I'm glad to be getting
off that dragon. I guess I don't know whatever it is,

(01:46):
So just a little update for us. We are doing
a lot of stuff in Ohio, going to animal rescues
and making videos. Doing stand up shows. Have been going great.
Hack for all of you guys who are listening. Everyone
who's listening, have something made for one of your jokes,

(02:07):
whatever your best joke is, or people you know remind
you of or it's a really great punchline that you
could physically turn into something. Turn it into something a wristband,
a sticker, whatever it is. I've been turning these this
joke that I have and do these fat FANSI stickers,
and I have been getting people to follow me on Instagram.
I get give them a sticker. So you follow me

(02:28):
on Instagram, show me that they're following me, I will give
you a fat Fonzie sticker. And honestly, it has been awesome.
And so it's just as much as I hate social media,
I know it's like an important thing that we have
to do. And so you know, I have reels coming,
more stuff coming. I'm working with somebody who's going to

(02:48):
be doing reels for me. I've been I found I
went through like three different people. Try to look at
people stuff, try to really think about it, the financial aspect.
And this person reached out to me and gave me
a good price, showed me some good work and I
was like, you know what, I'll give you a shot.
Let's see how it goes. And so I should be
getting that first reel back and go I will go
over with Zaane and he can got to give me
tips on what I need to tell them and then

(03:10):
if I can get them to do it, exactly what
I want. I will keep doing that and I'll just
be giving them a ton of video clips to just
clip and figure out what's good, what's bad, and kind
of make those so I can put them in the
rotation and be putting up clips and stuff. And then
what I want to do is I have two other
things that I'm working on. I did talk to somebody.

(03:33):
I did somebody did message me, and I know I
know who you are, by the way, so don't think
that I don't, But I had someone message me about
the possibly getting the information to do like retirement villages,
old folks homes, this kind of thing. By the way,
they're called you never call them old folks homes or
anything like that. They're either retirement communities or assisted living

(03:57):
care facilities, one of those two. You never call them
retirement home or retirement things like that. So just just
FLI that's a good thing. But what I'm working on
is a project where I go through all the different
things that I've done. So I've done posted like school fundraisers,
school shows, put on shows for the city, cities and

(04:19):
chamber or commerce and all kinds of stuff like that,
retirement homes, all those kinds of things. All those things
that are not comedy clubs and are what I call
semi corporate, so they're not corporations per se. They're not
like corporate really corporate corporate things, like big corporate things,
but they're semi corporation corporate things where you have to
still be clean, still have good jokes that are not
going to offend anybody, and have a good tape and

(04:41):
have good stuff. So I'm putting together that information. I
think I'm gonna do two or three tiers for that,
so I'll do like a free one sheet that shows
you all the different places you can do and what
you can expect to get out of each of those,
so you can kind of look at that. That'll be
the opt in so you'll sign up, so I'll get
your emails for that stuff if you're wanting the book,

(05:03):
and then I'm gonna do an ebook that's gonna basically
do all of the information on what to do with it,
which will include templates and stuff like that, so it'll
like email templates, a way for you to track it,
a tracking sheets, a phone template because yes, you will
have to make phone calls unfortunately, and then also a
contract template so you can use the contract to be

(05:26):
able to secure that with those people. And so that's
those are the things that I've had always said to do.
And then I'm not gonna give you ten ninety nine
or whatever it is they ask for I forgot. I
think it's like a w W four or something like that.
Whatever it is they'll ask you for that, I'm not
gonna give it to you. Just get it for then
irs And there's a different one every year, so it's
kind of sailly to do that. But all those other
pieces I'll give you that will be ebook and those

(05:46):
templates that'll be like a low price, and then I'll
do a whole course of showing you how I do
all the research, how I look for those places, what
I'm looking for, walking you through doing the phone call,
walking you through booking it, walking through collecting the money,

(06:07):
follow up emails, all those things like that that'll be
in in a course. So I'm my idea right now
is the free one sheet like a twenty seven dollars
ebook with templates, and then like a ninety seven dollars course,
and if you buy the course, you get the e
books and templates as well, so you would get all
that stuff. So that's all I was thinking about doing
something like that. If you're interested, feel free to shoot

(06:29):
me a DM on Instagram or shoot me an email
James D. Creviston at gmail dot com. Let me know
that you're interested and we'll get that. We'll get that going.
I'm working on it. It's something I'm working on and
I know that it works. Again, I made a ton
of money last year when I was trying to get
to one hundred shows in the year, and honestly that

(06:50):
paid off because now I'm with Zay doing two hundred shows.
So you know, actually I always want to do fifty
two shows in fifty two weeks, and I think I
did like eighty something shows because I was doing those
retirement homes and private shows and all those other gigs.
I did a show for the city and a mayor
in the city, the city of Calabasas. Actually I did that.

(07:12):
I did a private gig there that was amazing, just
like a lot of cool stuff like that. And so
I did a bunch of fundraisers for schools and I
was brought back several times. I would be em seeing
them this year, except for I'm on the road, so
paying off and putting in my dues and getting paid
for it show that I have the determination for someone

(07:33):
else to want to invest their time and energy into me.
So that's what I want to give to you, guys.
And I want to make it easier for you than
wistering because I kind of had to like figure it out,
like it was not easy. Those first phone calls I
made were terrifying, and getting my first yes. I remember
getting on the phone and being so excited that I

(07:53):
made a sale that I like, I ran and told
my wife, Oh my gosh, look there can book me
for this thing, and she was like, that's so cool.
And I was like, all right, I'm gonna go try
it again. And I got immediately got back on the
phone and started calling again, and I booked like two
more that afternoon because I was so excited and pumped
by it. And then I did what I call and
this is what I call it, dialing for dollars. And

(08:15):
I think somebody else has that term. I think, like
there's like a sales guy whose term that is. But
I was like, I'm dialing for dollars. I'm dialing to
make money. Every time I make a phone call. I'm
one step closer to getting booked and getting money. And
I mean a good amount of money last year. Actually,
I wonder if I could pull this up last year
off of stand up comedy. And I'm gonna tell you

(08:36):
this because I don't care. I don't mind sharing this
with you guys. That's my that's my whole goal is
to share these things with you. But last year I
made five thousand, one eighty five dollars and I drove
fifty four hundred miles, so then I had an IRS
tax right off rate of three six hundred and eighteen dollars.

(08:59):
So I mean gigs ranging from as low as what's
the lowest one I have on here? I mean some
are unpaid, obviously, but fifty dollars ten dollars two fifty,
three hundred one to seventy five four point fifty four hundred,
two hundred, three hundred one fifty one fifty. You know,

(09:20):
all these shows I got paid for. And I did
seventy one shows last year, seventy seventy one shows. I
haven't even put in all my ones for Zane yet
because I haven't done it, but I'm already I'm from
as of the thirty first January, February, March, April, May,
May thirty first, I've done seventy one shows. May May.

(09:43):
Halfway through the year, I've done more shows. So I'm
gonna break that record already this year, obviously because I'm
doing I'm in Ohio doing shows this week, and so yeah,
I'm gonna be breaking that record. I'm gonna be over
one hundred shows this year. I'm gonna do more when
I get home. I'm gonna do some stuff during the

(10:05):
break between Wednesday and I are on the road hopefully.
But that's what I want you to do. I want
you to be able to do it. I mean this year,
and I've made more than that, by the way, i
haven't even done the math. But I'll break I'll break
twenty thousand dollars from comedy. And that's getting paid to

(10:30):
do comedy on the road. And that's not including all
my airfare, all my hotel being paid for in tin care.
So there's a lot that can go into this, a
lot you can make. I mean, if I had to
add up airfare and hotel room and stuff, I mean,
I'd be making seventy thousand dollars probably somewhere in that range.

(10:52):
So it's great. It's a good time on the road.
And you know, I get to write off some of
these trips because they're driving trips and Socao and NorCal
and stuff, or up to Tahoe and things like that.
But that's really what it's all about, is making yourself
so good comedy on your own that when you buddy

(11:13):
up with somebody, when you get together with somebody, that
you're providing value. I mean, Zane knew that I was
doing all these shows and doing all these things, and
that for me was a great thing because I was

(11:33):
getting I was getting my own shows, I was learning
to book. I didn't mind calling, I didn't mind hustling,
and I still don't. That's one of my one of
my favorite things is hustling and getting stuff. And if
you can learn that skill, you're valuable to a headliner
or to a feature who wants to take you on
the road as an opener, or a headliner wants you

(11:55):
to take you on the road as a feature opener.
You know, so think about that. And also it gives
you a way to make money when you're home, when
you're not doing anything else on the round. And so
I want you to think about that, so hopefully I
think about this way. My lowest paying gig that was
one of the gigs that I booked last year, that
was like me booking a a show myself, was one

(12:26):
hundred dollars. So why would you would you not pay
ninety seven dollars to make one hundred two hundred four
fifty like to make a couple grand in a year
if you really hustled and keep you on. I didn't
hustle that much. I didn't hustle hustle as much as
I could have because I was trying to do other things,

(12:49):
was trying to get fined out, find my way and
figure things out.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
But I you know, I did what I needed to
do to to make money.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
You know. So I made a lot of money last
year part time while doing other stuff. Keep in mind
I was also freelance writing and stuff. I made a
lot of money freelance writing last year, and I haven't
made as much this year, which is crazy to me
even I mean, no, that's not true. I made twenty
thirty thousand this year already off of freelance writing as well, So,

(13:26):
you know, making a decent living doing this. But think
about it this way. If you could go and be
home freelance writing comedy stuff, which I'm planning on doing
something for that too, making your own day gigs and
then going out at night to clubs or whatever and stuff.

(13:47):
Why wouldn't you do that? Why wouldn't you invest ninety
seven dollars to get all of that stuff? You know?
So that's what I'm working on. I'm hoping that that
works for you. So anyways, Ohio has been great so far. Shows,
good turn out, good people buying merch, trading stickers for followers.
It's just been a good time. I am tired and

(14:08):
exhausted because we've been out all day today, But you know,
that's what I'm thinking. That's what that's the whole goal
of what I do is to make sure that you
guys learn from what I'm doing. And I'm hoping that
it does help you. So if you want that stuff,
if you want to know what's going on, if you
want to be able to make the money on the
road and transition from a person who's in your town

(14:31):
or setting up shows, here's the other thing. If you
haven't if you're if you're listening to this and you
haven't bought my how to produce comedy shows for fun
and profit book on Amazon. I think it's like five
ninety nine or something like. That's very inexpensive. I made
sure it was like very inexpensive so people could do
it and learn how to produce your own shows in
your town. I don't care where you are in America,

(14:53):
probably outside of LA or New York, but anywhere else
in America. Go set up your own show, learn to
produce and run your own show. I'm not going to
say who I talk to, but I'll tell you this.
I know a comedian who produces his own shows all
over a specific state that makes all his living off
of producing shows. All of his living off of producing shows.

(15:13):
So then he can take shows in weird places because
he has the money to be able to do that.
So just saying you can produce shows and make a
lot of money, you know, if you learn how to
do it right, you can make a ton of money.
And I know it's possible. I know it's possible because
one when I was starting comedy, I was producing shows.

(15:33):
I was one of the few comedians I know that
was making money in my first year or two of
stand up, where a lot of comedians lose money to
pay for open mics or Booker shows or Bringer shows
or whatever it is, and drive, you know, two hours
for five minutes somewhere like no, produce your own shows,
put on something that's amazing, give people real value, and

(15:54):
do what you want to do. I know that if
you do those things, you'll be very successful. So I'm
hoping to get seth On to do a podcast this week,
which we'll release on next Tuesday, and then I'll do
another podcast when I get back from San Francisco, and
I'll do probably one or two of those, and then
I will be gone to Grant Cayman until the twentieth

(16:16):
and I'll come back and do some more podcasts and
I'll tell you how that went, and hopefully I'll be
well on my way to being the best version of
me at forty five, and that means best version physically, mentally, comedically,
business wise. I am like really dedicated this next year
of dedicating this next year to being the best version

(16:37):
of me I could possibly be. I'm putting together something
that I want to be proud of. I have a
couple of projects that I want to do a personal
a personal project that's probably going to be like a
five O one's three C thing because I realized that
there is an opportunity for me to share the thing
that I love the most, which is Side's comedy, which
is being a father. So there's something there that I

(16:59):
want to do, and then some and then obviously the
comedy stuff and freelance writing and other things like that.
There's a lot of stuff that I'm working on. So
just want you guys to know good things are good
things are coming this year and my birthday July tenth,
if you want to throw me a shot out that
day or before whatever, go ahead and do it. And
if you're not following me on Instagram, please go do

(17:19):
that at JD Creveston and I'll be more than happy
to interact with you, answer questions or whatever as well.
And I look forward to you guys getting this, hearing
it and loving it. Thank you so much. I'll talk
to you soon. Bye.
