and as I said, had alittle bit of a touch of COVID.
It wasn't bad, but you know, COVID is COVID. You want to

Sunday, and I should point outthat today is the day of the finals
for the Men's and women's Laguna Open, the volleyball tournament down at Maine Beach.
This year, for the first timein over thirty years, this event
is on the main AVP schedule. The Association of volleyball professionals, and they've

(19:33):
been having The tournament's been going onsince Friday and today, starting at noon,
which coincidentally is when my show endshere today at the station, the
finals will begin. So if you'reout and about and walking around, keep
us on your headphones. You canlisten to your cell phone, of course,
but head on down to Maine Beachand watch the finals of this great

(19:56):
tournament that actually started in Lagoon allthe way back in nineteen fifty five and
has been running ever since. Andas I said, it's now rejoined the
AVP Tour, so everyone's very excitedabout that. All right, little update
for you there. We're gonna giveyou a few more throughout the couple of
hours that I'm with you here thismorning, and before I do more updates,

(20:18):
though, let's play a little moremusic for you. This is the
Foo Fighters off the one by Onealbum. This is called Times Like These,
and that right now seems to speakto almost everything going on. Times
like These? All right. Thisis KXFM and the Coast Highway Shuffle Show.

(21:26):
I'm not Way all Away. Ilove that draft Way, follow you
back home, I'm street, Ishot now, I'm yeah, my d

(24:45):
times like these you learned love again. It sounds like these time time.
All right. That is the FoodFighters here on FM and the Coast HIGHWI
Shuffle Show. I hope you're alldoing great on this beautiful Sunday. It

(25:06):
is gorgeous here in Lagunda Beach.Sunny. It still feels a little like
summer, but really we get thatfeeling in the air. As I mentioned
at the start of the show. You know, the light's different. It's
not so direct and down. It'skind of angled, so it has a
grayer yellow kind of tint. Itjust feels like autumn. I know we
can't compete with the Northeast and lotsof places with tons of foliage that they

(25:30):
get enjoy changing. We get subtlechanges in our trees here, but it's
really in a slight child of theweather and a slight change in the light.
But it still feels like autumn herein Laguna Beach. It's a beautiful
day to be playing music for youhere from k x FM. I'd like
to remind you because sometimes with everythinggoing on in the world, we can

(25:52):
forget some tragedies that are really stillso impactful, and we're our attention is
limited and it's spread over so manyevents, and I want to remind you
that there's folks over at Maui inLeahina that are still in terrible, terrible
straits. And there's a wonderful woman, Georgina Mosenni at Sarandi Salon here in

(26:14):
Laguna Beach, and all her haircutsthat she books on Tuesdays for the rest
of the year, she's donating tothe Red Cross to support Maui. She's
working directly with the Red Cross toaccept checks payable to the Red Cross for
the full amount of her haircut, and that is going to be a donation
that will be dropped off to theRed Cross each week. So thank you

(26:38):
Georgina Mosenni at Sirandi Celon here inLaguna Beach for such a wonderful gesture.
And I have friends that are impacteddirectly over there in Leahina, and we
won't spend a lot of time onthis topic other than to say they do
need help. And so with everythinggoing on in the world, and there's

(26:59):
plenty to distractus and demand our attention, please remember the folks, the Americans
over in Maui and specifically the Hinathat still do need our help. Now
with that, we're going to getright back to the music. I'm going
to play a band called the OliviaTremor Control. That's not a particularly famous

(27:21):
band in the public conscious, butyou might have heard them before. They're
a psychedelic band out of Athens,Georgia. They formed in the eighties.
They've had a couple of band namesas they've gone through changes. They really
kind of take their influence from indierock and neo psychedelia, which they really
point to bands like The Beach Boysand the Beatles in their mid to late

(27:42):
sixties product productions. As a realcornerstone for the music they play. I
think you'll hear some of those influenceson this song that I'm going to play
for you off the album Dusk atCubist Castle, and the name of this
song by the Olivia Tremor Control fromAthens, Georgia is jumping fences here on

(28:04):
the Coast Highway Shuffle shows. I'minside show show, alright. That doesn't

(29:59):
sound like like a typical nineteen eightiescut, does it. That's a minute
and fifty two seconds of pure popfun there by the Olivia Tremor Control.
Before we play our next song,I want to let you know, as
I always like to talk about mygood friend Jimmy Alvarez, who follows this
show here at noon, and heof course leads TN Radio and has a

(30:22):
wonderful show, does a wonderful jobeach week. Really radio as it's meant
to be done. The rest ofus, they're all just kind of filling
in and learning as we go.But Jimmy's going to be on today and
he's going to have as a specialguest on his show today Mike Peters from
The Alarm, So you definitely wantto stick around and listen to that it's
always a good show on teen andradio. But when he has as is

(30:45):
so often a musical guest that willtypically call in and interview with Jimmy,
it's always worth hanging around and pickingthat up. So again, Mike Peters
from the Alarm today on tea andthen radio at noon, and I'm jealous
boy, Jimmy just knows how tobring it. Speaking of bringing it,
Joe Jackson, one of the originalAngry Three young men coming over from Britain

(31:11):
in the late seventies, UH isresponsible for this next song that I'm Gonna
play for you off his Laughter andLust album, which is an amazingly good
album. Is this cut called hitsingle We're gonna play it now for you
on k x FM. You mustsee me an I never missed one that

(31:48):
I can be on the used tobeing on the one backing one special one
not and we need a thick comebong. You just find that one.
I already knew now I spread myselfaround. You can have threem inte s

(32:15):
Salmon hit singley, Yeah Sama hitsingle, Well, Pama had single,
Yana single, you canna have one? No, I gotta line out to

(32:42):
the thing and every time you lookaround, I'll be there on your tea.
I'm not a special man. Idon't baby. Before you know it,
I'll be there right underneath your skin. If you think that'd be,
Sarah said smart, guess you, well you should be. You must be.

(33:08):
Not Ah, you're joking, butwait, too petty for me.
Sannah has single, Yeah yeah,Bannah is single, Bannah is sing Yeah
yeah, Bannah his sin going straightto know when I die and go to

(33:53):
your pop heaven, angels will gatheraway. Ask me for my whole life
story, ask for that fabulous sound. But I know there. God stop
me as I'm stuck going through everylife. Say please, not the whole

(34:15):
Tame album. Nobody has that muchsaid please. Just HiT's yeah, just
sick love, just hit sing yeahyeah, just sing gotta love that wh

(35:00):
I love me some Joe Jackson. There that is a song called hit single
here on k XFM. You know, you think about hit singles and there
was a gentleman in the early seventieswho had his share of hit singles.
He worked for years in relative obscurity, took a series of odd jobs to
pay the bills while he continued towrite and record and then he hit it

(35:23):
big. And I'm referring to JimCroche who had a number of albums and
hit singles during the early seventies. And then on September twentieth of nineteen seventy
three, at the very height ofhis popularity, and the very day before
the lead single to his fifth albumcalled I Got A Name was released,

(35:46):
he and five others died in aplane crash. And I remember being I
would have been about fourteen, fourteenyears old. I remember driving. I
was writing in my writing past, and my dad was driving a Dotson pickup
truck on our ranch I grew updown in Indio, down in the desert,

(36:06):
and we were in the truck togetherand it came over the AM radio
that Jim Croche had passed. Heonly was thirty years old when he died
in nineteen seventy three, but hewas huge, and he was at as
I said, at the height ofhis popularity when he passed. We don't
hear a lot of Jim Crochey's songson the radio anymore, really much.

(36:27):
You know, you hear bad badLee Roy Brown, or certainly Time in
a Bottle. But he has somuch good work and I want to share
one of those songs with you.Now. This is a song office I
got a name album called Lover's Cross, and like many Jim Croche singles,
it's just a beautifully written and expressedsong here for you. Now. On
the Coast Highway Shuffle Show, itsaid was bound to happen. It's just

(37:02):
a matter of time. Now whatcome to my decision? And it's a
one of the pain for Cain becausenow it seems that you wanted to martyr.
It's just a regular guy wouldn't dothe Baby, I can't hang fond

(37:24):
Lovers Cross for you. You readit, got to hand it to you,
because girl, you really tried beforea red time that we spent left
and there were two times that Icried that you were trying to make me

(37:47):
your martyr. That's one thing Ijust couldn't do. Because Baby, I
can't hang fondle Lovers Cross for you. The table's armen borter and people abound

(38:07):
to change and bridges armen for whenthe people and memories that join on the
scene still the whole that you canfind a nother who can take. But
I could not have to be asuperber guy. Oh maybe a superer garden

(38:37):
because I never was much of amarty before, and I ain't about to
start nothing loop. Maybe I can'thave on now levels cross for you.
The table's armen bater and people aboundto change, and Bridgie's arming for burn

(39:04):
in when the people in memories thatjoin on the scene. But I hope
that you can find another who cantake what I could not have to be
a super guy. Oh maybe supergod because I never was much of a

(39:30):
marder before, and I ain't aboutto start nothing new, and maybe I
can't hang on now levels cross foryou to attack this body. It's a

(40:12):
come cor a pot team turn awayand if it got up, unless it
be about ten of dances, mes that whats was cost out? She's

(41:07):
I tend to say, stand andsay up he stay up to a letter,
steal the not le from the man, attack the ball, stay up

(41:28):
the bad let the tast of thesaid stack. What say wcause she talk
to she talk? She's got justtalk s up, shut up? S

(43:45):
all right off. The sports albumalways good to play a little Huey Lewis
in the news. Come on man, there was a time when that you
could not listen to f M radioin the eighties without hearing Huey Lewis and
the news what a great song theirheart and soul. Here on the cod
Highway Shuffle Show, I'd like tomake another announcement. I heard from a
dear friend of this show and awoman here in town that I think very

(44:07):
highly of. I'm referring to ayoung lady by the name of Pamela,
Pamela Knutson. And by the way, she has got a great blog called
Catladyinthecanyon dot com all one word,Catladyinthecanyon dot com. And I'm thinking about
her because she sent me a verynice text regarding a song we played Times

(44:29):
like These by the Foo Fighters, and what a big impact that song has
had in her life. And itlet me be reminded that we have an
announcement because Pamela is very connected toa foundation here in Laguna Beach called the
Catmosphere Laguna Foundation, and it's awonderful organization that adopts out cats. I

(44:50):
know about this organization in part becausemy wife and I adopted two cats a
little over a year ago from Catmosphereand they're just a so fun. We
just adore these cats, and they'rehaving three pop up adoption events this month
in Laguna Beach. They're all goingto be held, actually two of them

(45:12):
are going to be held at theLaguna Beach Animal Shelter, which is of
course in Laguna Canyon Road. Andthe first one will be first one,
i should say, was October seventh, and the next one will be October
twenty first, So basically a weekfrom yesterday, they're going to be having
their second adoption event, which reallyare fun for the whole family. They're

(45:36):
going to have snacks and giveaways andthere's gonna be just a lot of fun
there at that event. And thenon what they call Caturday, because you
know, if you're a cat person, they don't say Saturday. You got
to tie everything into cats. OnOctober twenty eighth, they're going to have
an event at Gelson's. So definitelywant to check that out out. And

(46:00):
it's a wonderful organization and as Isay, Pamela Canutson is a big part
of that effort. And if youwant details, contact Team Feeline. That's
one word. Team Feeline at CatmosphereLaguna dot com. Team Feeline at Catmosphere,
Laguna dot com. All right,it's always fun talking about local folks

(46:23):
doing good stuff. And I'm goingto send this song out to Pamela because
she's been such a sweetheart and sucha supporter of our station. Here.
This is James Taylor and JD.Souther with a beautiful song Her town too,
because Laguna Beach is definitely Pamela's town. She's been afraid to go out.

(47:10):
She's afraid of knock on door's alwaysa shade of a dog. She
can never be sure who comes tocall. Maybe a friend of a friend

(47:32):
of friends, anyone at all, anything but nothing again. He used to
be her town. He used tobe her tons, to be her time,

(47:59):
used to her town to seems likeeven her girlfriends might be talking her
down. She's gotten a name ona great fun got it up and down

(48:20):
a telephone line talking about someone said, someone said something, Bob, something
else someone might have said about Shealways biggest bible. But maybe they can
live without her. Just to beher town used to be her town,

(48:52):
has to be her towns to beher her talent. Well, people gotten
used to see and now bothgether. He's gone. Life goes on nothing less.

(49:20):
Rever she gets the house God.He gets the boys and the band.
Some of them his friends, someof them her friends. Some of
them understand thou those best. It'sjust a small towns in so everyone can

(49:49):
see for It's got nothing to dowith Peter just wanted to give you calls
to your town. He used tobe my town. You never know till

(50:14):
it all lows down. Somebody lovesyou. Somebody loves you, darling,
Somebody still loves you. I canstill and he used to be her down

(50:38):
too, just to be your town. You used to be in my town
too, Never know till all right. James Taylor and JD. Souther with
her Town too here on k xf M and the Coast Highway Shuffle Show.

(51:01):
The next song We're Gonna play forYou is by Tom Petty, but
this is before he was with theHeartbreakers. This is when he was in
his first band, Mud Crutch,And the name of this song is Scare
Easy. On k x f M, Malls and Ocean You Gotta Lag Cross

(51:43):
You have been. It doesn't sayI need summer. Somebody wasn't. Davin
loves Hoy running lack a man.I said I don't szy two fall when

(52:14):
I'm a gether gun you can play, and I'm going around no scary for
no moor. I'm a loser atthe top of maga, I turn.

(52:38):
I do not keep by on news. I's got a a never last say
treatment, don't have a common true. I don't stay music when I'm a

(53:08):
good the guy where you can playhide when I'm going stays for overord some

(53:58):
boy do the god I don't wantand not a soul that I never done.
Blast, Yeah, my shadow atthe back of the that I said,

(54:22):
I never comecall and I don't scalisard. Don't fall far when I'm gonna
do the guard. You can breakground and I'm going around. You don't

(54:43):
scarce reason no one. I notscaredser don't fall when I'm a the guy
you can but I'm right all right. That's Tom Petty course with mud Crutch,

(55:52):
that great band before the Heartbreakers hereon k x f M. We're
now going to do today's headset, and as always, not as always,
but as too often the headset, which is three songs picked because they're associated
with an artist, or an albumor a theme. We picked three songs,
we play him back to back toback, and I encourage you to

(56:15):
put on headphones if you don't alreadyhave them on, just because it's always
better when you're listening with good headphoneconnections here and I recognize sometimes that's not
possible, that's okay, but wecall it the headset. And today's headset
is in honor of a gentleman whopassed away just two days ago. And
I'm referring to a member of theamazing band, the Isley Brothers, and

(56:38):
they originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and they started out as a vocal trio
and O Kelly Eisley was one ofthe three brothers, Ronald Eisley and Rudolph
Eisley. And it was Rudolph Issleyone of those three founding brothers who passed
away two days ago. And hewas born in nineteen thirty eight. And

(57:00):
they were originally successful in the latefifties. So they've been around and they've
been a success for six decades. It's amazing when you really look into their
history. And they really hit theirpeak in the Americas well, starting in
nineteen sixty nine with their very firstbig hit, which won them a Grammy

(57:21):
called It's Your Thing. Actually misspoke. Their first hit was one going back
to the early sixties called Shout fromactually nineteen fifty nine. Their fourth single
was called Shout and you know thatone, you know, you know it
makes me a wall on a shoutthat one that's the Isley Brothers. We're
not going to play that one foryou, but boy, I'll tell you

(57:42):
what you talk about a song thatis the in the pantheon of wedding songs,
that's probably at the very top ofeveryone's list. But in nineteen sixty
nine, so ten years later afterthat hit, they won a Grammy for
a hit song called It's Your Thing. We're going to start with that,
and then we're going to play thatLady because you're gonna recognize that song from

nineteen seventy three. Who's That Lady? But it's called That Lady Parts one
and two. And then they alsodid a number of covers. I've played
on this show many times. Theirversion of Summer Breeze by Seals and Cross,
which is great. But today we'regoing to play a cover of a
Stephen Still song called Love the OneYou're With. So Isley Brothers in honor

of Rudolph Eisley, who passed awaytwo days ago, it's your thing,

(01:10:48):
Dave Murray. We're settling into arather quiet weather pattern, kind of perfect
Laguna beach weather, though temperatures area little bit warmer on this Sunday.
Plenty of sunshine, breezy during theafternoon eighty should do it for the high
so most of the afternoon in theseventies on Sunday night tonight, clear skies,
kind of chilly again, especially oncethat sun gets down. Temperatures cool

(01:11:10):
off quickly because of the dry airmass. Fifty nine for the overnight low
on Monday, sunny and warm seventyeight degrees in the afternoon. On Tuesday,
mostly Sunday skies and seventy five degrees. There looks like there could be
some pretty good wave action coming ourway the middle to end of next week
as the wave pattern gets a littlebit higher and a little bit stronger.

(01:11:31):
The North Pacific is very active.Still some questions on that, but we
could start to see some of thebiggest waves of the early season come in
here later in the week next week. As far as Wednesday, Thursday Friday
are concerned, I got some morningclouds, then some sunshine seventy five each
day. That's my forecast on MeteorologistDave Murray for KXFM Laguna Beach kx RNLP

(01:11:58):
again in a galagaina Beach members supportedk XFM on one oh four point seven
Kxfmradio dot Org. All right,I need to point out because I thought
it was kind of interesting you justheard that song by the Isley Brothers love
the One You're With. I shouldpoint out that came off an album they
put out in nineteen seventy one calledGiving It Back, and after having a

(01:12:20):
career where white artists covered their songs, most notably Shout and Twist and Shout.
The Isleys decided to do an albumand play music that was made famous
by white artists, so that's whyyou heard that Steven Stills cut Love the
One You're With. They also coveredBob Dylan's Lay Lady, Lay Fire and
Rain by James Taylor, Ohio,Spill the Wine by Eric Burden, and

(01:12:46):
the Animals you know Ohio, asI said by Neil Young. So in
any event, it's a really coolalbum. It's called Giving It Back by
the Isley Brothers. You want tocheck it out if you love their music.
I hope you enjoyed that headset today. Before we move on to our
music, I do want to makenote of something that you can all note
in your calendars, and that isthat Hospitality Night is announced and it's on

(01:13:13):
the calendar for Friday December first. Now, I know December seems like a
long way away, but if youlook at your calendar, it's not.
It's only about six weeks away.Hospitality Night will be on Friday December first,
from five pm to ten pm.And as you know, they start
shutting down the roads for that eventaround three point thirty, so it's going

(01:13:34):
to be crazy and busy as always, But note your calendar because even if
you don't go, you want toremember what it's going to be so that
you kind of stay out of thedowntown area. Friday, December first.
Okay, let's get right back tothe music here. The next song I'm
going to play, speaking of covers, is a song that's been covered by

(01:13:56):
so many people. Literally hundreds ofversions of this song exists out there.
The song I'm referring to as asoul jazz standard called Sonny, was written
in nineteen sixty three by Bobby Hebb, and he wrote this song after his
older brother was stabbed to death outsideof a Nashville nightclub, and he was

(01:14:16):
so devastated by the event, andhe in an interview, described that he
wrote the song as an expression ofa preference for a sunny disposition over the
lousy disposition he had following the murderof his brother. So it was really
a way for him to write downwords that would inspire him and hopefully deal

(01:14:40):
with the tragedy of losing his brother. The name of the song is Sonny.
You'll recognize it. The cover I'vechosen to share with you today is
by the Great Paul Carrick, andthis is the Coast Highway Shuffle Show.
Sunny Yes, the thing my lifewas filled with rain, Sonny, you

(01:15:10):
smile at me and really the pain. Now the dark days are gone,
the light days are here. Mysunny one shot souls said, Sunny one
so true. I love you,Sunnay, Thank you father, Sunshine.

(01:15:39):
Okay, Sonny, thank you forthe love you brother my way you get
to me all in all. NowI give ten months talk Sonny one so

(01:16:00):
true, No, Sonny, sonNow the darkness agne and the light things

(01:16:27):
are hit My Sonny won't shine. So since Sonny won't so true? Wow
you Sounnay, thank your for thesmile on the face. Snay, thank

(01:16:53):
you partect me loose with tree syour master. Oh my leads to this
fall. You're my want of allSonny want so true. I love it,

(01:17:15):
Sunnay. Thank you for the truthyou let me see, Sir,
thank you for the facts. Myfantasy. My life was torn like wildflow
sound the rocks was farm and wehave hands. Sonny want so true out

(01:17:45):
of all of you for my Sunnay, Sonny wasn't so true? All right,

(01:18:09):

(01:20:30):
birthday celebration week for us. Allright. The next song I'm going to
play for You is a instrumental trackoff the album well, the soundtrack I
should say, for the great surffilm that came out in two thousand and
three called Step into Liquid. It'sa great surfing movie. For surfing documentary,
I should say, by Dana Brown, son of famed surfer and filmmaker

(01:20:55):
Bruce Brown, of course of EndlessSummer, and it's just got some great
It's just a great movie, socheck it out. But from that surf
movie, there is some really coolsongs, and this one by an artist
named Steve Stevens is called Sinecita.I'm gonna play it for you now Here
on the Coast Highway shuffle shows,S S S S S S S S

(01:23:33):
S S S say said give satS you was saying in sad and oh,

(01:26:02):
I hope you enjoyed that. Ilove playing an instrumental here for you
from time to time. That's justa beautiful, beautiful cut. You know.
The Spanish or Mexican flavor of thatsong combined with just that beautiful acoustic
guitar reminds me, or reminded meof this next song that I'm gonna play.
This is also a cover. Itcame out in nineteen sixty eight,

(01:26:26):
one year after the original version wasmade a hit by the band that wrote
it, The Doors. This isLight My Fire and the cover that came
out one year later in nineteen sixtyeight, and this is by the great
jose Feliciano. And if you thinkyou've heard it a million times, yeah,
you probably have. But sometimes whenyou listen to an old cut like

(01:26:50):
this and you turn it up andyou have headphones or just turn it up
and really listen to it, you'rekind of amazed. As I was on
the MUSICALEI that is on this song, I think you're gonna enjoy it.
Light my Fire here on the CoastHighway Shuffle Show. You knew that it

(01:27:32):
would be untrue. You knew thatI would be a liar if I was
to say to you, a girl, we couldn't get my child. Come
on, baby, my father,Come on baby, line my fire.

(01:27:59):
Try to say the night on fire. Mm hmm. The time for hesitation
through, there's no time to whileI'm win the mile, don't and we
could almosy news and I love becomea funeral fire. Come on, baby

(01:28:25):

said that night on the Fire.We know that D would be on the

(01:30:28):
my filene lie my bil Lie Byebye live line file. All right,
it's probably been a while since you'veheard that cut on the radio. Ah,
that was of course. It wasa Feliciana with light my Fire.
What an amazing version of it.It was so big when it came out
in the late sixties, nineteen sixtyeight, to be precise. Well,

(01:30:49):
you know, we like to mixit up here on the show. I
won't to play a song I've notplayed on the show before, and I'm
not it actually represents a type ofmusic I don't play often. Actually very
rarely on the show, and thatwould be kind of dance pop or techno
pop, but it's really more ofa dance song as I say. It

(01:31:10):
came out in two thousand and oneand it was on an album called Fever.
The name of the artist is KylieMinogue and I actually first discovered this
song when she did it on SaturdayNight Live. She performed it live and
she had these great backup dancers andit was an amazing performance. I encourage
you to go on YouTube and lookup the song Can't Get You out of

(01:31:35):
My Head and snl and you'll seethat performance. Very cool performance. And
I came across the song recently andit just stuck with me as it has
a tendency to do and I'm gonnashare it with you now. That's what
we do here on the Coast HighwayShuffle Show. This is Kylie Minogue off
the album Fever. This is Can'tGet You out of My Head on KXFM

shorter though. The sunset is aboutsix seventeen in the evening, so keep
that in mind for the sunset walk. Then tonight clearskis in Chili fifty nine

(01:41:46):

much, very much, Dave.We appreciate that. Always good to have
a professional meteorologist giving you the goodupdate. Getting back to the music,

(01:42:06):
here is my job and what Iwanted to do. I mentioned that i'd
played that song by Courtney Barnett NewSpeedway Boogie. Of course, a grateful
dead song got me thinking about boogie. Well, there's a song called boogie
Man, and this one is bythe great blues guitarist Eric Gailes. He's
one of those great blues guitarists thatyou've likely never heard of, but you've

(01:42:28):
probably heard him play. And hecame out in twenty seventeen with a kind
of a collaborative album that included somereally cool people on the album with him,
including Lauren Hill and this artist GaryClark Jr. So Eric Giles and
Gary Clark Jr. In this songcalled Boogie Man, We've had new Speedway

(01:42:49):
boogie. Let's keep it going hereon the Coast Highway Shuffle Show. I

(01:43:23):
gotta call your reputation, y'all.I'd like to get no down. Oh
love you. Mama's better knock upyour dollars across the bogee men's in town

(01:46:42):

(01:47:45):
That's Eric Gals and Gary Clark Jr. The very cool track there called Boogieman.
Here on the Coast Highway Shuffle Show, We've got about uh, well,
about fifteen minutes left for you today. We're gonna squeeze a few more
songs in before they kicked me outhere. Remember my good Buddy, My
good buddy coming up next with TNand Radio as Jimmy Alvarez, So stick

(01:48:08):
around. Over the weekend, Ihappened to get into a conversation with a
friend about our connections to Aerosmith andthe band Aerosmith, of course, and
it reminded me how it was reallylike nineteen seventy four, seventy five when
I first started listening to them growingup down in the desert, and this

(01:48:28):
particular song off their third album,Toys in the Attic was the one that
really drew me in. It wasthe one that first made me kind of
kind of wake up and really listento Aerosmith, and of course I've been
a fan ever since, especially oftheir first five or six albums. This
is a song called No More,No More on kx FM Crazy. I'm

(01:49:18):
busy, my dad has Brad andI seen the day license I started this
fans stoles going about of the scenes. Three grady Gypus go to tell them

(01:49:39):
rat the change rated and told methat all the same bad channels, the

(01:50:17):
latest camera news. You know,I'm ten. You pay them, then
it's some good news see coming bythe latest seas, slip into the next
down the Scout, bad bound,Sam Kettle Holias on the father's collar.

(01:51:11):
Another calling measures time changing the net, stay still changing, riding the wheels
to say Stone and a second badSwings Babe found my horse and calling.

(01:53:02):
All right, I gotta tell youa fifteen year old me love that song.
I'll tell you what that kind ofwoke me up down there in the
Inland Empire, little town called Indio. Of course, you guys now associate
that with Coachella and the Coachella festivalthere at the Polo Grounds. But again
Aerosmith with No No, No More, No More, off the toys in

(01:53:25):
the Attic album. Now the nextsong, I'm Gonna play for You is
a change of pace because it's actuallya waltz when you think about it and
its actual construction. It's by theCounting Crows. It's off their fourth album,
which is a really cool album calledHard Candy. Most people know this
album for their cover of Big YellowTaxi by Joni Mitchell, but there's some

(01:53:45):
really good additional songs on this album, and the one I'm gonna play for
you now is my favorite. Thereason I'm going to play this for you
is because I had the chance tosee the Counting Crows at the U Tube
Theater in Inglewood back on September sixth, and at one point during the show,
the lead singer Adam Duritz addressed thecrowd by saying that they hadn't played

(01:54:10):
this song in concert in years, but they decided to play it that night,
and it is one of my favoriteCounting Crows songs. This is called
Butterfly in Reverse. It's a verypretty waltzy song, but listen to the
beautiful way the tune sort of progresses. It's a stunningly pretty song. This

(01:54:32):
is Butterfly in Reverse by Counting Crows, which I got to hear them play
live, and they don't play thissong live. I guess I'm repeating myself.
Here we go on the Coast HighwayShuffle Show. This girl said,

(01:55:01):
mary Anne, you better than theworld. You did a lot of it
was right on this book. Hada lot of girlfriends. I should know
them. Click years and count backfrom three but two you want to go

(01:55:26):
back? You should have known thenthe butterfly first years. But mary Anne,
you're better than the world. Hetook a lot of time getting right
on this girl. I said, mary Anne, you better than the world.

(01:55:51):
You dined a lot of He wasright on this book. Where'd you
want to go to? With nothing? Sign you webb curfews and frey and

(01:56:15):
everything that hurts you is locked upin insigne. You like butterflies and wings
and I would confect things sweet,go swimming in the sunshine, dangling from
clothes lines to separate and fall intome. But did you ever see me?

(01:56:43):
Me? Absolutely me with all youBut tell me mary you better than
the world. It's look a lotof time, Caddy things right on this

(01:57:11):
kid, A lot of things righton this things. This he did that
so well live in concert. Itwas just it was it was really a

(01:57:32):
magical moment. Great. I alwayssee the kind of cross when they come
to down, always see him. They're always great. When Adam Durretz is
in performing metal, you know, performing mode, it's always worth seeing them,
all right. The next song I'mgoing to play for you is we
start to look. To wrap upthis edition of the Coast Highway Shuffle Show

(01:57:53):
is an artist by the name ofEmmett Rhodes. I've played him before he
passed away in twenty twenty. Hemade four albums as a solo artist,
and I described a couple times asI played his music that he was considered
in the late sixties truly a potentialrival to Paul McCartney. He recorded his
albums in his parents' garage. Heplayed every song and every instrument on his

(01:58:20):
albums, so everything you're about tohear is just one guy. The song
I picked off his fourth and finalalbum is a song called Tame the Lion,
and I picked it because of whathas happened here in this last week
over in the Middle East and theGaza Strip in Israel. And regardless of

(01:58:43):
your politics, the sad thing aboutthis is war is devastating, and this
is an amazing anti war song calledTame the Lion. You'll hear Emmett Rhodes.
You know he wrote this in nineteenseventy three. Hear hear him reference
Southeast Asia Vietnam, which is understandablebecause we were still in that war at

(01:59:08):
that time. But it really holdsthe test of time as an anti war
song. And I'm playing it nowfor all of you as we kind of
wait with baited breath to see howthese next days, weeks, and unfortunately
months may play out. Regardless ofyour politics, Let's never champion war.

(01:59:30):
This is Tame the Lion em AtRhodes, and remember everything you're about to
hear. One guy Jill lived capson team tasted blood. They can be

(02:00:01):

when we see nose the chill liveSaigon, kneeling down at several times.
Then no long cares master. Onlylet the fighting in team below. Now

(02:00:31):
it's tasted Blook. It can bedone with one redlad a line an.
Now it's tasted. Blok is killingwhen we see although the time so soon
done that we won't this one.All the sacred lifeless. Only Lon Simon

(02:01:00):
Wall write another as children. Yeh, the nose is not there. No

(02:01:21):
he can read with one bread, save the lie. And now he's tasted

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
