7: The Economy in the Time of Corona

The Corona crisis has become an economic challenge that will obviously have massive effects at the regional, domestic, and international levels. To learn more about how the German economy has been affected we spoke to Rüdiger Bachmann, a German-American economist who specialises in macroeconomics in cases of uncertainty ie. recessions/pandemics. He is a professor of economics at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, as well as a research affiliate with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), a CESifo research network fellow and an external research professor at the ifo institute in Munich.

Rudi shares his thoughts on Germany’s 750 billion euro economic relief stimulus and how it compares to relief packages passed by other countries. He also explains how Germany is actively working to avoid a long-term recession and how he thinks that EU leading bodies should be working together to avert long term effects. Finally, he takes us through how the crisis will impact the common person and their livelihood.
