Ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon, Welcome on the Culture News.

spell it loud for you. It's d S and David
a double Z double la dazz loud. We are so
glad to have her today. She has released a new song,

(00:24):
a new track which we are going to play exclusively
premiering on iHeart with You Always. The name of that
song is called Cactus like the plant. You heard it
cactus and we are so glad to have today the
one and on the Dazzla Dazzla, how are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I'm very well, Thank you David. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I'm doing amazing. Thank you so much for being with us.
So would you be so grind to tell us a
little bit of yourself, like who are you? Where are
you from and how did you start music?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I am a Dasa. I live in the United Kingdom
is one of my pseudonyms. I am an artist. I
also make films and write books sometimes and I live
in the UK near London and started making music quite

(01:18):
some time ago. I come from quite a musical family.
My maternal grandfather and my mother they both wrote songs
and poetries and sung them. And then both my brothers,
one of them has his own metal band, another one
is a trance edm music producer. So we all sort
of had a lot of music going in the family anyway.

(01:40):
And I think I went to Central School of Speech
and Drama in London, so music was part of what
I learned as well. So I think, yes, that's where
the music comes from.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
And we're so glad to hear that. And we say hello,
of course to all the people in the UK listening
to us more and more, I should say, so, we're very,
very glad to have you today. So now first forwarding
to these great new track of yours which we're playing today.
Cactus Cactus, tell us the story. Why did you call

(02:15):
it cactus? And what's the story behind this beautiful song?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
It's it's there's a there's a few layers. I mean,
it goes way back. So I when I was at
this school in London learning music, I just before that
I had come across Patricia cas I think you probably
are familiar with the music, and there was one song
called mo Ma camoir in French goes out you are

(02:43):
big mo girl to reach. And I didn't have the
confidence until then to sing, to be very honest I
and even at school, I mean I was always also
and it couldn't hit the high notes. But was singing
that song that I thought, you know, I can actually sing.

(03:04):
That gave me the confidence. And I was on a
walk around the Schoolisms were Scottish in London, and I
was walking around Hampstead nearby, and I saw Jude Law
at a house, just chilling by a drive, and who
was sitting by a window. And I waved at him
and he waves at me, and it was just very casual,

(03:24):
and I thought, I've just met Jude Law. And I
started walking and went round the bend and I thought,
he's sitting by a window. And suddenly the lyrics came
to me, you were sitting by my window. And the
song is not about Jude Law, but it was more
about the voice within us that tells us we can't

(03:44):
do something. Because I think until then i'd really battle
my own first for fear of singing, but also several
other things on the personal front. So I wrote this
song about something that's prickly as cactus. It can hurt
when you're still trying to nourish it as a plant.
And yes, so I think all the lyrics just flu

(04:07):
It came to me and then I I recorded it,
but then I sat on it for about a decade,
and it was only last year that we you know,
I thought I'm going to make this song. So that's
when I recorded the hook and finally finished it.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
And indeed it's a beautiful song and they're very well constructed.
And was so glad to have you today to talk
about it. So who are your influences? Who are the
artists who have inspired you the most.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I've just mentioned Patris anyway, because I really like her music,
but I wouldn't name anyone in particular. I listened to everything,
and I'm influenced because not because I don't think there
aren't a few I can pick. It's just that I'm
impacted by so many musicians from so many genres. I

(05:02):
listen from country to classical to to trance. You know,
I listen to everything, but I have I have really
benefited from all the genres. And I think Cactus has
themes of a little bit of everything in it.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
And indeed you mentioned patrisakas what a wonderful artist theyded
So we're so glad to have you today. So before
we start to say goodbye to each other, what are
your next projects?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I'm working on a film project at the moment, but
it's it's it's a very large scale one, so it's
taking time, but I will get there, but I haven't.
Cactus is supposed to be well that's what I thought
with my first and only single as a singer, although
there will be a longer version released soon.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Well, well, we be there definitely to promote it and
to talk about it and to play your music. It's
a beautiful music. The wonderful song Cactus is coming by
the artist Dazzland. It Misspelly for You is a d
