R I C K and soul. You know how to

(00:21):
spell it s O U L. He has released a
wonderful news single which were so proud to play exclusively
on I Out with You. The name of that new
single is at Be a Fortune, And indeed we are
very fortunate to hear about this new single, at Be
a Fortune. By the great day Drake Soul, who is

(00:44):
with us today over the phone? I told you this
is a great day day, Drake. How are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:50):
I'm doing really well.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Thank you, Thank you to you for being with us.
We really appreciate that. So would you be so kind
to introduce yourself? Tell us who you are and what
have you done so far in music?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Great? Sure, I'm Dedrick Soul. I'm a singer and songwriter.
I'm based out of Oakland, California, and I actually started
singing when I was in high school. You know, I
was given roles in musicals by I'm a music teacher,
and I continued taking on lead roles throughout college, and
then I continued performing in musical productions once I left college.

(01:26):
So I did have a real passion for music. I
briefly left passion, briefly left it for teaching, so I
took a break from performing to work as an educator.
But all the while, I really continued writing for years.
But it wasn't until recently that I decided to release
some of the music that I've been writing to the public.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
And we are so glad you did that. And you know,
sometimes when a musician is not recording, it doesn't mean
that the mind is not working, you know, and you
are you are You're a perfect example of that, delivering
such beautiful, beautiful music. So who are the music artists

(02:07):
who have influenced you so far?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Sure, I'm a big fan of soulful artists like Erica Badu,
Xavier Omar, Fiona Apple, Raphael sa dik of Tony Tony Tony,
and Anderson Pok among many others. But those are some
of the artists that sort of stand out to me.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Especially well, you can go wrong with these big guys
like that, you know. So we're so glad really to
to have you. Now, let's talk about your new single
called At Be a Fortune. At Be a Fortune, can
you tell us the story of that song?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Sure, I really wrote this song in response to a
realization that I had spent years in and out of
a relationship continuously really trying to prove to someone that
I was really worthy of their love. Ultimately, it became
clear to me that I needed to recognize my own value,

(03:07):
that I was seeking it from the wrong source. So
the song lyrics are really about that message, but also
really a message to our own subconscious in our interior voices,
not to really mistake our value and not to forget
to essentially love yourself. So when I was putting the
lyrics together and the song, both of those things are

(03:30):
really into my in my mind, and I really tried
to incorporate incorporated into the lyrics.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
And you did really well. And this is a wonderful
new track, At Be a Fortune. How the title came.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I'd be afore fortune really came from that real sense
that I had value. And when I think about that
in relation to other individuals, we may sometimes devalue ourselves too.
I had to recognize that actually, I would be a
fortune if you really came to sort of know the

(04:06):
beauty and the light that I provide to myself and
to other people, other people that might sort of come
into my life. So I'd be a fortune. It is
really about recognize the greatness of me and of other
individuals that have lowered themselves.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
And indeed, this is a beautiful, beautiful way. I'd be
a fortune. By the wonderful day drink soul. So where
are you based and where are you from so far?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I am based in Oakland, California, originally from Texas, but
I've lived and worked in Oakland, California for a couple
of decades.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
That's beautiful. So do you have any live performances coming?

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Well, I am working on that. So I've been in
conversations with individuals right around here in the Oakland area
about some live performance. So as soon as I have those,
I will announce them on my social media pages and
let you know the dates.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Well, we'll be there differently to applaud you. So before
we start to say goodbye to each other and we
start to play your wonderful new track, you called at
Be a Fortune. We have Dedrek Soul today on the phone.
What are your upcoming projects? What are your next projects?
What are you doing next after that? Sure?

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Well, I'm always writing and I've actually got several songs
in the works. I've actually received a lot of positive
feedback even here just in the area to this initial release,
and it's giving me the impetus to produce and release
more music. So I don't have dates yet, but I
can tell you that, given the really positive love that

(05:50):
