Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon, Welcome on the Culture News.
My name is David sob wrote, and I have the
pleasure to have today on iHeart with you on the
Coulture News a wonderful singer music audience. Her name is
Michelle Ann Owens Owens spell O W E N S.
She's a wonderful, wonderful singer, and she has released a

(00:23):
new album called Chapter Vegas. And indeed we're so glad
to have her today on the show. Michelle Anna Owens,
how are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I'm doing great? Hi David, how are you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I'm doing amazing. Thank you so much for being with
us that I really appreciate that. So the first question
I have for you is who are you? Where are
you from? And how did you start music?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Who am I? Do? We all ask ourselves that question.
I was raised in Pennsylvania in the US, and I
grew up in a small a town north of Philadelphia,
and music has always been part of my life. I
grew up inside of a musical family, so my my
parents actually owned a music store together, and uh so

(01:12):
I grew up around musicians and uh live music my
my entire childhood. And I didn't really start writing my
own songs until probably college, so but you know, after that,
it was just kind of continuous after that. It's it's
been a it's been a long road, actually, but really
fun and.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Indeed a beautiful road that led you to this new
release of your scull Chapter Vegas. So what what what
was the process of doing that new album, that release,
and what are the songs that we can find in it?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh, David, it's this was a blood, sweat and tears
project for me. So it's one hundred percent self funded,
and I did every track purely organically, meaning I hired
real musicians, so no programming, no no digital stuff. It
was it was all real musicians, and so it took time,

(02:12):
and the sessions were all done virtually for the most part.
There were a few exceptions, but the majority of the
record was done one track at a time, and it
was it was done with the concept in mind of me.
I was living in Los Angeles for a really long
time and I decided to make a move to Las
Vegas in early twenty twenty four. And when I did that,

(02:37):
you know, it was it was a lot of pressure.
It was a big change. I was very used to La.
It's very different culturally in Vegas, and my songwriting picked
up really quickly, and I really always wanted to have
a horn section in my in my tracks, and so
I thought, what a great place to do that. Vegas
is known for its its live horns and for its

(02:59):
live shows. Vegas is also known for its cover acts
and its tribute acts and people who do a lot
of other people's material. And so the project started that way,
with me doing reimagined covers in of old soul, old
funk tunes, and I purposely plucked them based on what

(03:22):
I thought I could do with them in terms of
the arrangement and the vocals, and then of course implementing
those horns. And so that's how it started, and that
was the tie into Las Vegas. Was kind of a
nod to the fact that the culture here is really
based in cover artists and cover acts. And then I

(03:43):
just I couldn't resist. I thought, I have to do
some original music. I've been writing so much since I've
been in this city, and so I decided to add
a bunch of original tunes to the record as well.
And you know, again, it took a long time to
get it done. It's been a year and a half
in the making, and so I'm so excited that it's

(04:04):
finally finished. And the chapter is not completely closed yet,
but we're getting close.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, and it's a beautiful chapter. And thank you for
giving us so many great details. We love the details.
Talk to us about your music. This is exactly what
we love. So who are your music artists that you've
been listening to? Who are your music influences?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
So many, so many. I tend toward funk music and
soul music, so of course Prince is the number one
on the list. A lot of Michael Jackson, a lot
of Stevie Wonder. I also love a lot of nineties
R and B, so I think that really is subconsciously

(04:49):
an influence. And a lot of my original songwriting is
that whole neo soul movement, so a lot of the
artists out of that era as well. And also you
know that kind of like jazzy element too plays in.
So it's a mix of genres, a mix of artists,
but all based in groove R and B soul.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
And indeed we we can hear all these beautiful influences
in your music. And I love that you wanted to
have a horn section.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
In your release.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
That that that is so brilliant. We will love that
you want to make the album a little bit the
old way, which is yes, you know, I love that.
This is really what stands in time because the energy
of all the musician is is really is really what
you know, get us on our feet, you know. So
we yes, we love that that that you're doing that.

(05:40):
So before we start to say goodbye to each other,
what are your next projects?

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Well, I think I'm going to take a pivot after
this a little bit.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I had an original band in Los Angeles that was
really based in funk rock, so it had that it
had more of a rock element to one of the
tracks on Chapter Vegas has more of a rock element
to it, but I might be leaning more in that direction.
And then I think I'm going to be doing some
collaborations coming up which will be very exciting to announce
in the coming months.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
And we'll be there to play your beautiful music and
to celebrate everything that is coming from you, ladies and gentlemen.
My name is David. So we had the pleasure to
have to tell night Heart Ready on the Colture News
the amazing Michelle Ann Owens, who has released a new
album called Chapter Vegas and indeed it's a beautiful, beautiful,

(06:35):
beautiful new release, is a wonderful singer, music autist. She
writes her own music and it's really a pleasure having her.
Michelle and Owens right now, more music to follow up
