Thank you very much for getting the time to talk
to me.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Listen all the pleasure relea is mine, so thank you
to you for being with us. So first question, can
you tell us a little bit about yourself and how
did you start music?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Is?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I started music long ago, but I am a doctor
professor in medicine in Amsterdam in a large university medical
center and music is my hobby and my passion and
I started I was born in Sri Lanka. Left Sri
Lanka during the war a long time ago, about thirty
(01:17):
years ago, but became a doctor and and did fairly
well as a doctor, but could not forget music and
so kept writing.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
And then came to the last song.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
And there have been some other songs which has done
fairly well on streaming media, but this was the last
song about the situation in the world at the moment.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Wow, that is really beautiful and I should say inspiring.
So who are your music artists the audists to have
inspired you the most.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, that's funny because I was born in Sri Lanka
and I didn't have much Western music.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's mostly Eastern music.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
But later I got to know Western music through artists
such as Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Neil Young. That's a
bit funny that you were born in a small place
in Sri Lanka and still these giants influence you.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
So besides Eastern.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Music, Eastern Indian raga music, the most inspired I became
by American some of the American singer song writers, you know,
the ones I mentioned just now. So it's a funny combination.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Indeed, the beautiful combination. So now talking about your new track,
your beautiful new track called The Mad King, we are
today over the phone with mister Saren d The artist
Sirend Deep tell us about the new track of Yours
the Mad King. What is the story, how was it created,
(03:02):
what was the process?
Speaker 3 (03:04):
The process is I believe that the music and the
art should reflect the political and cultural situation of the time.
And at the moment, we are in a really pretty
bad time. You know, it's like we have gone we
(03:24):
have been ascending a technologically really well. But somebody said,
I think it's an Indian cricket guy who said we
descended from the monkeys, and we still are descending. And
we see that now in all the conflicts we have
all around the world. So the lyrics we created out
(03:47):
anger and frustration. And I just wrote this song after
work after a hard day's work at the hospital, came
back home, listened to news and sat down and started
penning it down and was finished really quickly. And it
was a very long song, but I had to omit
some lyrics and then put music into it. I just
(04:08):
sang it with the guitar and a mouth organ, you know, harmonica,
and then later added all the other music. So it's
about our leaders of today. And I didn't want to
mention a specific name, but if the hat fits, you
(04:30):
can put it on somebody else's head and and so
it's about the political situation that is beautiful.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
So tell us about your your artist's name. Where is
it from and doesn't mean something particular?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yes, Surrender is the old name for old Persian name
for Sri Lanka, where I was born, and the concept
of Serendi bety comes from there. So the Serendibt is
three princes who left seren Deep that's Sri Lanka where
I was born, and came across.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Many uh many nice.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Uh They created lots of innovations and also they found
many co incidents, you know, pretty accidents, and because of
that they came across lots of lots of things. They
came across lots of innovations. I've forgotten the exact word
(05:36):
to say, but seren Deep pity comes from Sri Lanka.
Seren Deep is the old Persian name for Sri Lanka.
Speaker 1 (05:45):

people of Sri Lanka. We say hello to them, and
