(00:21):
It's time. I'm a little bithockey podcast. I am the host of
show. Brad Ruth joined along theside each never like Friars and uh Blake,
I got Google maps als okay andstarted to plan yours down the Cup
parade in Vancouver. No, no, no, no, no no,
it's we're not doing that. It'suh it's two games, one really good

(00:46):
game. One game they had nobusiness winning, but they found a way.
I thought they were Actually they fought, they battled, they were resilient
in the second game, which makesme happy because last year, if they
took seven penalties against the Oilers,I thought there would have been no shot
in hell they're winning that game. It's nice to have a backup goalie for

(01:10):
once that can come in and dismitthis this place, stemp going and actually
have confidence that he's gonna make saves. That's that feels good. Okay.
Two goals from the fourth line. There's a lot to like, a lot
to like. We're going to talkabout that in a little bit here,
because there's lots of talk about withthe Edmonton Oilers. Another thing I noticed

(01:33):
the Carolina Hurricanes, they have nohel affiliate. You know that I did
know that. I just saw thatthis person's guys reporting to go there.
They're not reporting to go to theother team. They got loan too,
they're not reporting. But now they'vebeen suffling guys to the EHL. Yeah,
it's like, how in the leagueas big as the National Hockey League,

(01:53):
how can you not have an hL affiliate? I should I should
be a mandatory thing. No,well, it just it kind of makes
the league look bush league, likeI just well, I'm trying to think
of the last team that hadn't hadone. It was, uh, Vancouver,
No, no, it wasn't Vancouver. Vancouver shared one. No no,

(02:14):
it was no, no, no, Vancouver shared it with somebody.
It was Saint Louis that didn't haveone, and then Saint Louis joined at
Vancouver and Udica. That's what itwas. Vancouver, Vancouver always had one.
It was in Utica they had nowit's in Abbotsford. It was in
Stockton for a little bit. Evensharing isn't really smart? Yeah, yeah,

(02:36):
yeah, I don't know. Itjust seems crazy to me that an
organization like that is in that situation. Did you see the fight this week
in the HL, Yes, betweenGallant and Ville, HL Calgary, Manitoba.
I honestly believe it was one ofthe best fights I've seen in a
long time. It uh just twoguys, just no defense in sight,

(03:00):
just just trading haymakers and they werelanding to which was like you see some
wild swings in some fights, butlike missing guys and you're off balance.
These were like bam, bam bam. I was like, shit, that
was nineteen eighty eight, dontre noI was. I reminded me of like
Bob Probern tied on me back inthe day. Yeah, but even like,

(03:23):
okay, I agree with what youjust said, but like it was
like those guys like unleashed because youknew with those guys that they they knew
how to protect themselves a little bit. Yeah, this was like them on
volume ten. Yeah, it wasgood. I liked it. I watched
it a few times on Twitter. It was good. Couldn't get enough of
it. What do you make ofthe reports that Mike bab Cox's been seeing

(03:45):
around NHL and and NHL game we'rein Saint Louis Blues apparel. I did
not know that, nor do Icare. I don't. I don't really
actually saw a picture of him ina blue hat and shirt. Oh maybe,
just maybe, just maybe he's ablue was found out. I don't
all. I really don't care.I don't care. Da Mike Babcock is

(04:05):
never going to coach again, doesn'tmatter. I thought it was comical,
Yeah, thought it was comical.Barry melrose sad diagnosis with Parkinson leaves ESPN.
I this kind of hit home alittle bit with me because I had
my aunt deal with it and itis a debilitating, terrible, terrible disease.

(04:28):
And uh yeah, WELLS kind ofhad a soft spot for Barry Millrose
because I remember when I was ayoung kid. Yeah, and he was
on ESPN. Remember back the oldESPN two days I don't know were you
even born. Uh, They theywould have Barry Melrose come on, and
for some reason, multiple times Iheard him say. They'd ask him where
he was from, and he'd say, you go to mine at North Dakota

(04:50):
and drive three hours north Kelvyton,Saskatchewan. Yeah, he'd always describe it
that way. I thought that wasthat was funny. Yeah, No,
I that's at sad news. Imean it's just Joe just goes to show
you that the hockey is just agame, right, everybody has to deal
with stuff and sucks. For sure. We wish him the best and uh

(05:12):
and hopefully the he can manage thatuh, that terrible disease for as long
as he possibly can. So firstweeks in the books, over reactions all
over the place, it is itis not for me, not for me.
I hope you're not for me,but I have every reason to be

(05:34):
me. No, there's no,there's no, there's no there's no reasons
you meet over react at all.No, But I don't know that there's
a two more impressible wins your teamcould get and we're going to get into
that, but I I think it. Vancouver fans are going crazy on Twitter,
but the majority of them are justlike, Okay, it's only two

(05:57):
games what I've been reading, butI know, but it's I don't know,
it's it was definitely an exciting twogames. Lots of talk about on
the show today. We're going totalk about NHL dominance tiers and the Oilers
where do they fit into this nowafter struggling so bad out of the gate.
We're going to talk about that, and Blake and I are going to
give you who we have is Tierone, Tier two, Tier three,

(06:19):
Tier four, and Tier five NationalHockey League teams. Then we go around
the league opening weekend lots to talkabout their Bidard's debut, contract extensions,
and Pinto. Pinto is still notsigned in Ottawa, and now there's reports
that he is headed home. Allright, let's get going right off Canucks

(06:46):
os. This was the talk ofopening weekend, I think, and the
Edmonton others going to the season. And you picked him to win the Stanley
Cup. I picked him to losein the Stanley Cup finals. So we
both believe that this team is areally, really good hockey team, and
I and I don't know that thatreally changes after after this weekends. Two
losses to Vancouver, an eight toone loss on Wednesday was Wednesday, right,

(07:11):
and then a four three loss onSaturday. Let's talk a little bit
about both those games and how Edmonton, I don't even know what you'd say,
underachieved or dismantled themselves, and andand how Vancouver and I'm gonna give
them all the credit in the world, how I thought they were resilient through
the whole two games and really gavethe Oilers fits. Yeah, I mean

(07:35):
I haven't seen Vancouver play with thatmuch speed and that much for checking in
a long time. Like they are. They they beat the Oilers at their
own game as what they basically did. Oilers are are a fast team.
They like to chip pucks behind thedefense. They like to get the cycle
game going their their back end chipsin and Vancouver's power play out dual Eminton's

(08:01):
powerplay. You take penalties against theOilers, You're gonna lose those times.
Nine times out of ten, theCanucks took seven penlees on Saturday night.
I'm I'm out here pulling my hair. I'm like, like, they,
we're gonna lose that game. Theywere taking penalties because they were They were
getting beaten to the puck a lot, for sure. For sure, Thus

(08:22):
that happens with the penalties. Andyeah, I agree with you. I
thought you can only go to thewell. So as soon as Dakota Joshua
put the puck over the glass,I literally said they this game is getting
tied. And somehow, and withhow bad their penalty kill was last year,
I'm just like, here we goagain, Here we go again.
But they chased but not as muchas last year. No, they're way

(08:46):
more. They're how do I explainthis? They're it's not great, like
they still have like I'm looking fromlooking for the word, I'm looking for
the word they crack. They crashedthe net more, they crashed to the
net more and protect the house waybetter. I've noticed the first two games.

(09:07):
Then I noticed they won those frontand net battles and were able to
clear the puck. Like they wereable to clear the puck right, Yeah,
why I up and clear the puckand Emonton always tries that one play.
McDavid's up high and he swings itdownloaded, drives all. He hit
the post on that five on three, which which is kind of lucky.
But I don't know, man,Just like that goal away Lafferty, Like

(09:31):
we haven't had speed like that inthe bottom six in a long time,
a long time. Like that hegot up to thirty seven kilometers an hour.
That's that's borderline ridiculous. I justI just thought it was just all
around good, good week for theCanucks. Like you couldn't have. You
couldn't have. You couldn't have pictureda better two games to start your season,
to be honest, you couldn't eightone and eight one dominating victory,

(09:56):
domination the whole game that Vancouver Canucksdominant the whole game. And then Saturday
you get out shut seven nothing thefirst four minutes. It's one nothing and
like home opener for the Oilers,Canucks are on their heels. What do
they do. They go into thefirst intermission up to one, like they
battled back and they they took thepunches, they weathered the storms, and

(10:18):
that's not that's something that they didn'tdo a lot of last year. So
they give up the first minute goaland I thought, yeah, there,
Actually I thought right away. Iactually tweeted it just to piss you off.
I said, there's the Canucks. We are. But then that's what
I said to I, so ohfuck, here we go again, like
this is here come the Oilers. And then they just cut punch back and

(10:39):
they did. The Oilers did come. They did come hard. They did.
They shot the Canucks forty one tosixteen. Yeah, Vancouver just held
their ground and were able to comeup with some key saves, some key
clears obviously, some key penalty killsand you know, things worth the way.
One of the things I thought Vancouverdid a really good job of and
I think, well, if Inoticed this, I know every NHL coached

(11:03):
or they should have or better ofif they watched these games. The longer
they worked on McDavid in dry Cidle, the more they got frustrated and they
started taking stupid penalties and doing stupidBut you don't Miller get Did you see
Miller rock twice? I I haven'tseen Dryest get hit like that before.

(11:28):
Mark dear Dan o'conhom a couple ofyears ago. Yeah, but like dry
sounds pretty strong, dude, LikeI was like, whoa, No,
I think JT. Miller is oneof the stronger. For Yeah, I
look at they took them off theirgame. But one of the other things
Vancouver did a good job of isdo you notice they left Evander Kane alone

(11:50):
and never got him leave alone. They just let they just they didn't get
him pissed off though, because ifVander kyan, he's one of those guys
that thrives off that and gets better. He tried to start shopping in the
corners and they said he didn't evenif do you deal with that shit?
One thing, I don't mean tobreak the hearts of Canucks fans, but
the Edmonton Oilers shot two percent fiveon five. They were there, their

(12:13):
shooting percentage was two percent. Whatdoes that tell you about the Canucks goaltending
though? Well good, but lastyear's average was twelve percent for the Oilers
on five on five shooting. They'renot going to stay at for absolutely for
sure. But all I'm saying isit's they they did. They did beat
him at their own game. Theyout they outscored him on the power play,

(12:35):
and that's how the Oilers win.If the Oilers don't score in the
power play, they don't win manygames. That's just the bottom line.
But let's let's talk a little bitabout Edmonton's problems and where do you want
to start. Well, let's starton defense. Let's start a net.
Okay, Well, that's the biggest, most glaring problem is I don't think
either one of these goalies is goingto be capable of winning a Cup.

(12:58):
In fairness to Jack Campbell on onWednesday night, he had absolutely zero help.
Zero. They never give help.So that's been one of the problems
for you. You look, didyou see that Leahs Petterson pass Wednesday night
to Congorgar. That was one ofthe most ridiculous passes i've ever seen.

(13:20):
That was four and a half feetin the air right on the tape.
Insane. So that goes in,that's that's just a disgusting play. The
put goes in off of Besser's skatewhen it was supposed to go to Mailler
and that's way on the other sideof the ice. That goes in.
Not really his fault. He maybecould have had, maybe could have Besser's
second goal, but I don't know, man, Like it's they didn't give

(13:43):
much help, no, not atall, and they just, you know,
in a game where they really neededto give him help to you know,
his confidence just plummeted as the gamewent on, and it's like they
needed to bail him out with somegoals and and they just didn't. In
the end, they didn't. Theydon't help going back, and they're they
don't. This team just doesn't worryabout well, all the Oilers fans are

(14:09):
like, oh wait till it comesin the lineup. You missed the first
game, he was their worst defense, but on Saturday night he let he
let Lafferty just blow right by himand score the winning goal. But when
teams rely on one player that heavilythat's a recipe for disaster. It really
is. And I look at Skinneron Saturday night. He did not look

(14:30):
he didn't look great. No,but the two tips, two of the
goals were tips, and then andthen another one's that point shot. I
don't know, it's it's he that'skind of tough. But four goals on
sixteen shots is definitely not ideal forsure. Oh but their defense man like,
oh fuck like Nurse like, manlike, oh my god. Whenever

(14:54):
we play the oilers, my eyeslike, all right, we get the
feast on Daryl Nurse because you justknow he's like he's gonna take a dumb
pan there be he's just gonna throwa pizza right aft the middle. I'm
interested to see what happens with thatover over the years. Now, what
do you mean, what do youmean? There's nothing that's gonna happen where
they gonna buy him out. They'regonna take the conductor. No, they're

(15:16):
gonna have to figure out a wayto protect him though they put him in
situations he can't handle. They playhim as a number one defense, but
he's not a number one the maatThat's what I'm saying. They're gonna have
it's like a three to four guy. They're gonna have to shelter him somehow.
They're gonna have. You can't shelterHi. You're giving him almost ten
mil. They give Tyler Myers aton of money, and they have to
shelter him, don't they. Theydo they he's making six that's a lot.

(15:39):
That's a big difference. It's alot of money. Still, but
they shelter on that. They shelterhim on the third pair. But they
still shelter him because they know theyhave to or they're gonna die. The
odd time he does play with QuinnHughes, which is it works because Quinn
Hughes is so dynamic back there. But yeah, most of the time he's
pretty sheltered for sure. So wheredoes this go? And and Blake and

(16:00):
I sat down today and kind oftiered out who we thought were the the
Tier one, the Tier two,the Tier three, the Tier four,
and the Tier five teams in theNational Hockey League. And what does this
do to what does this do tothe Oilers? I see you've moved them
out of Tier one and you pickthem one week ago, now two weeks

(16:22):
ago, you picked them to winthe Stanley Cup. I don't know,
Man's it's two games. Like,I know, you're I've seen enough,
man, this team is. Thisteam showed me in the first two games
that if they don't score in thepower play and they don't get production from
twenty nine to ninety seven, they'renot winning. But blake that they they

(16:44):
showed you that this weekend. Wesaw that a lot last year. Yeah,
but at times Skinner gave him goodgoal tog and at times they were
decent defensively. What I saw thisweekend was just a disaster. And I
don't I think I think you watchedWho do they play next? I think
they play Philadelphia next? Won't theyScuba? Does? Vancouver does? Who

(17:06):
does play? They play Nashville?I think there you go Nashville and tomorrow
night in Nashville. I looked forthem to just pound Nashville. Well,
I mean I expected him to.Honestly, I expected him to pound Vancouver.
On Saturday, they were pissed off. They lost eight one. I'm
like all right, like I'm itwas a scheduled loss for the Canucks,
and honestly wise it was a scheduledloss. Oiler's home opener. They just

(17:30):
lost eight one. They're gonna bepassed. McDavid and dry starting can combine
for eight points. That's what Ithought. So when I when I tiered
these out, I looked at Tierone as the teams I think can win
the Stanley Cup this year. AndI do believe that Colorado, Carolina,
Toronto, Vegas or Edmonton are thefavorites to win the Stanley Cup. Now,

(17:51):
when I saw your tiers, Isaw Carolina and Vegas only. Yeah,
you're not putting Edmonton in this category. No, into so so two
games has moved them out of thatcategory for you. I still think they
can win the Stanley Cup, butthey're in Tier two. They're they're a
step below those two teams. Sowhy do you in Tier two? You

(18:14):
have Edmonton, Boston, Colorado,Toronto, and Dallas. I have I
have New Jersey, Dallas, Boston, l A, the Rangers, and
Tampa Bay. What why why isColorado not in your top tier? I
just I think they're good enough, but I don't classify them as good as

(18:37):
those two teams. I mean,I'm worried about their goaltending, So like
I will, I am a worryabout their goaltending I'm worried about, honestly,
their depth. Look at the topteams, though, I worry about
Colorado's goaltending, Toronto's goaltending, Vegasis goaltending, ed Edmonton's goaltending. To
me, the clear favorite is Carolina, and I do believe that. Thus

(18:59):
the reason I picked them to winthe Stanley Cup. I just I look
at these other teams, you know, like I think New Jersey and Dallas,
Boston, LA, the Rangers andTampa or my tier two, and
I think all those are really goodhockey teams. I'm worrying a little bit
about l A after this weekend.I think they got the case of the
goaltender where worries too is and itseems to be a league problem. Same

(19:21):
with Tampa Bay. They don't reallyknow what they're gonna do there in net
where at least with New York,Dallas, New Jersey they kind of have
those solidified. In Carolina. Alsoin Tier two you have Edmonton, Boston,
Colorado, Toronto and Dallas. Youknow, I easily could put Colorado
and Toronto up in Tier one.I just I'm just not as sold on

(19:45):
those two teams as I am.The top two that's all. Could I
see them whinning? Could I seethem going to the cop? Sure I
could, for sure I could. In Tier three, this is where it
gets a little bit murky. Iguess you'd say I got And even when
I look at my Tier three,I start to wonder, Yeah, I
got Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Calgary,Florida, and Winnipeg. You have Tampa,

(20:10):
La, Florida, New Jersey, which surprised me because you spoke so
highly of them, the Rangers andMinnesota. I have New Jersey higher than
you, which is a stark, drastic difference from just two weeks ago.
These are just so hard to predictsometimes, so it's like I don't know,

(20:30):
Like it's like there's there's teams thatare in my Tier four that that
could have good seasons and by theend of the year they're in Tier two.
You have half the league in yourTier four. Well, I'm just
like there's just half the league isjust in the mushy middle. That's what
it is. I agree, wouldn'tyou consider like I and And I'm not
knocking heres at all because like Ican argue mine too, Like I like

(20:52):
Minnesota, they could go up,they could go down, Pittsburgh. No,
I really don't know what to makeof Pittsburgh, right I just feel
like there's just I don't so,I just don't feel like there's five Cup
contenders in the league right now.I do right now. I may not
in two weeks, but you knowwhat, would you have a head vague?

(21:14):
Okay, two games into the holdon, let's do an exercise.
So I want to redo this tierwith Christmas, and I want to redo
it at the end of the year. We're gonna do it probably three times
this year. Okay. Now,one thing I want to I want to
bring up here. Now I'm gonnaread off the tiers because people watching it
can see on the graphics, butthe two people listening to the podcast can't.

(21:36):
So Tier four, I have Ottawa, Vancouver, Buffalo, the Islanders,
Detroit, Washington, Arizona, Chicago, and Seattle. You have Calgary,
Vancouver, Winnipeg, the Islanders,Buffalo, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Nashville,
Ottawa, Washington and Saint Louis andSeattle. The graphic doesn't even go

(22:03):
that far. So you have aton I look at mine and I'm like,
yeah, I'm a little surprised.I got Chicago and in Arizona in
there. But I do believe thatthose are two young, exciting teams that
are on the up, and Ido think they're going to push into that
next level. I also look atmy Washington and team. I just don't
know what to make of that team. I feel like they could go down.

(22:26):
Yeah, I really I struggle witha lot of those teams. I'd
really Buffalo. I I don't knowif their goaltending is going to hold up.
I don't know. There's so manyunanswered questions, and there should be.
We're two games into the season. You know, in Tier five I
have Nashville, Saint Louis, Anaheim, Montreal, Philly, Santose, and

(22:51):
Columbus. Why do you have Nashvilleand Tier five? I'm gonna get to
that here. Tier five you havePhiladelphia, Chicago, Montreal, San Jose,
Arizona, Anaheim, and Columbus. Why do I have Nashville in Tier
five? I can. I canrespect the Saint Louis because I almost put
them in there too, But Idon't don't I don't know how they're gonna

(23:15):
score this year. Who Nashville Ilike? I don't mind their goaltening is
awesome. I love sorrows. II look at him to have maybe not
as strong of a year this yearas last year, because I don't know
how you you replicate that. Ilook at their defense and I like their
defense, but offensively, I mean, this team is I don't know.

(23:36):
I don't know how they're gonna Idon't know how they're gonna be able to
do. They scored four against Tampa. Did you see what Tampa was?
Did you see how Tampa played?Dude, I'm telling you, I'm telling
you, I'm out on Tampa.Man. They're not making playoffs. I
don't think did we have did youhave them making the playoffs? No?

(23:57):
I did not. I did.Let me look here one in they're one
and two and they have allowed fourteengoals in three games, fourteen. So
yeah, are you out on Edmontonmaking the playoffs? Oh? Not well?
I mean Carolina is allowed fourteen too, exactly so as Toronto. So

(24:21):
I don't know what what do youwhat's your take on Arizona? I mean
he was so early, but hI'm I'm in on Arizona. But like
they're just they're still going to bein the basement, Like they're still gonna
be bottom two in that division, bottom three, like it's they're probably gonna
take a step this year. I'ma really big fan of Logan Cooley.

(24:44):
They have they have some respectable pieces. Now you bringing a guy like Dumba
and Kerkfoot and and some other guysmakes you a little bit more respectable.
But they're still They're still not agood hockey team. Who do you think
is the worst team in the league? Sounds a I had a landslide.
It's got to be Jose. Theymight set the record for the least points

(25:04):
in the league. I don't knowthat Philly is not going to be right
with them. They might all theywill be right with him. I heard.
I think both both those franchises arein are in some dire need and
no, yeah, but you're startingto see Philly like except they're going into
rebuilding. You got San Jose overthere not maximizing their value for one hundred

(25:26):
point defenseman. So I don't know, Like I think you're gonna see Philly
unload connect me. But for Carlson, mm, they could have got they
could have got more at the deadlinelast year. You know that they want
four first rump picks. They wouldhave what who's taking on that contract?

(25:48):
They would have retained money if theywere smart. I mean they would have.
If they were smart, they wouldhave retained almost half of that contract,
and you would have got a boatloadback, a boatload. They couldn't
retain half of it. They don'thave the cap space too. I don't
believe. I mean, you can'tretain and not because right now Santo is

(26:10):
a yeah. They they couldn't.Douff they were a yeah, but they
took all those bad contracts back towhat do you mean they wouldn't have taken
those bad contracts back? I agree, But then who's gonna give up all
those I mean, I don't know. I don't think you're would have been
fifteen teams lining up to get Carlsonat six mail? Are you joking me?

(26:33):
You kidding? Because there's repercussions forlong term for something like that.
Though. Okay, well, youwant to win Stanley Cup and get one
hundred point d man at six mil? Or do you want to get him
for ten? Do you think hewas pushing somebody over the top to win
a Stanley Cup? I'm not Idon't know. I don't know either,
but I'm just saying, like Isay, would you rather have Carlson at

(26:56):
ten mill or six? All I'msaying is like going into the playoffs,
right, just just hear me outon this, going into the playoffs,
and you you need look at allthe teams that need a defenseman. Edmonton
they didn't need an offensive defense whenthey needed a defensive defenseman. They all
everybody needs a guy like tanef oryou know, like they need a guy
like that. Yeah, I meanright now with Vancouver, I'm just like

(27:22):
hypothetically using them as an example. If if Vancouver is playing well, which
they are right now, but ifthey're they're in a playoff spot right and
they're heading in there looking at makinga move, right, Yeah, get
a Carlson or t for Tana soyou can play, yes, because that's
the guy that's going to get youover the hump in the playoffs. Not

(27:44):
even that, because he's played herefor ten years and he has experience playing
with Quinn Hughes. So that's whyI know. And I'm just I'm hypothetically
using the Connects and Tanna as anexample just because I do think Tanna will
probably be available at the deadline.Yeah, we'll see. I mean time
will tell what that. What doyou make of the Montreal Canadians. I

(28:07):
think they got some exciting pieces ColeKawfield and Suzuki and slev Cosky and unfortunately
Kirby Dowks out long term. Ilike the addition of new Hook. They
got a really really young back endwith Kaden Goolie and Arbor Jackie, and
they got barn and it's it's superyoung. They're gonna be getting They're gonna

(28:30):
be getting uh what the hell ishis name? He plays at Uh?
He plays at b U. Ohno for you guys name He really dynamic
defense and set the I set theUS development team record and points for d
Man. So yeah, there's alot to like about them. I I

(28:51):
they I still think they need toget a good young Goaldie. We'll see,
but yeah, there's there's there's definitelya lot of pieces in place for
a proper rebuild, that's all I'llsay. Yeah, I agree, I
think it's going to be a longterm rebuild. But but yeah, definitely
moving in the right direction. Here'swere fun. We will revisit that at

(29:12):
American Thanksgiving and then probably the midseason point I think would be another good
time to talk about that. Butthat's always fun to do and we'll do
that again. But now it istime to go around the league opening weekend

(29:33):
and now a hockey league. Andit started off Thursday, well Tuesday eight
it started, but Wednesday night theMontreal Canadian Toronto Maple Leafs game. Montreal
had Toronto on the ropes. LikeI can't remember why I turned it off
because I had to do something quick, and I came back and it was
six or five and I was like, what it just happened? Well,

(29:56):
I mean there's it's honestly too ttwo games because Colfield scores to make it
three nothing and it gets called backon an off side and that kind of
gave Toronto some hope. But Imean, you're down five to three.
Austin Matthews gets two goals, putsthe team on his back. I mean,
that's just what guys like got do. I mean, guys like that,

(30:19):
they're paid the big bucks to takeoverhockey games. And that's what Austin
Matthews just done the last two games. He's got six goals in two games.
So hat trick opening nights and thenhe follows it up with a hat
trick against Minnesota to take charge ofthat game, and like what what like,

(30:40):
that's that's the guys. That thatwhat you pay guys to do,
score big goals and take over games, and he's done that for sure.
Definitely has undefeated teams in the league. Who's left? Who is left as
an undefeated team? Can you namethem? Blake without pulling it up?
Can you name them? Do Ihave to name them? No? Guess

(31:02):
well? Vancouver okay? Uh?Boston, yes, like undefeated in regulation?
Undefeated? Uh, Colorado's undefeated. No, they're not what wait,
let me find it. Yeah, they are there, they are they are

(31:22):
they are there. I'm pretty surethose are the only three. Oh,
Vegas is undefeated. I think that'sthe only four that haven't lost in regulation.
There's a couple more here, Uh, Vancouver, Vegas, Toronto.
Uh, nope, Toronto is noton the list anymore. Lost. So

(31:44):
Vancouver, Vegas, the New YorkIslanders one game, yeah, Dallas Stars,
Yeah, Colorado. So the undefeatedteams are down to yeah, very
few of them now, and therewe go each night, we'll see less
and less. So then what doyou make of Connor Bedard start? It's

(32:07):
kind of weird from all the boothe kid. I thought that was weird,
though, isn't it that kind thatkind of that kind of caught me
off guard. I wasn't really expectingthat, but I watched a little bit
of the Chicago Toronto game that helooked okay, he doesn't look out of
place. Uh, he's shooting thepuck a lot, which which as he

(32:29):
should. He's got one of thebest releases in the game, so I
would shoot a lot too. Yeah, he's he's getting a lot of chances.
He's found the back then at once. Yeah he's he's been good.
I've I've been impressed. I wascurious on how his skating would hold up
a little bit. He's he looksfine, doesn't look out of place,
and yeah, good for him.I think he's holding his own just fine

(32:51):
and a tremendous amount of expectations tolive up to. In three games,
he does have three points, he'sminus one, but he's got a goal
and two assists. I've been fairlyimpressed. One of things that shocked me
is they're definitely non sheltered him. He's averaging like twenty two minutes a game.
No, he's fine. He's finny. I think he had the most
minutes in the first two games inthe league, which is which is crazy.

(33:15):
TV ratings are the It was thehighest regular season non Winter Classic ratings
in the US history. Is openingnight game against Pittsburgh. Ticket prices are
out of control when he comes totown. So yeah, doing everything that
making the league money, get thatsalary cap going up, Derry, So

(33:37):
we'll see what happens there. Someextensions signed this week. DeVonta is extended
in Colorado seven years, seven pointtwo five. Ohen Power resigned seven years
at what did he eight point threefive? What Buffalo doing blocking up their

(34:00):
long term? I get what they'redoing, but it's like, but they're
aren't they like, are take it? They're taking They are taking the Autawa
Senator's approaches. What they're doing. They're a getting all those young guys locked
up long term. Props to them. Good for them for doing it,
But are they not two million toohigh on everyone in Power? Probably worth

(34:22):
six mil, That's what I said. They're two million too high on every
single person. Yeah, I thinkthat's gonna bite you in the ass,
isn't it. But they're hoping thatthe cap goes up and up and up
and up and up and up andup. Yes, I know, but
but you still have to feel depththough, right, Yeah, I know.

(34:47):
And for a team that hasn't wonDinky doo, they're thrilly rolling the
dice pretty strong here. I goodyoung players, oh to really good cornerstone
d men to build your team around. So let me ask you this question.
Do you want Devant's or Owen powerwith Dante's? But all in Power
got a million more? I know, I know. Yeah, was there

(35:12):
any other extensions? Those are thetwo key ones. Uh, Shane Pinto
still not signed. Otto was tryingto move cap to sign him. They
currently have sixty two thousand dollars incap space. I'm sure you'll sign for
that. No, Pinto has actuallyleft and went back to Michigan or excuse

(35:32):
me, New York, excuse meto train. But one of the things
that I started thinking about it Ottawawhen signed Corpus Solo and Tarasinko. Tara
Sinko probably the more appropriate one weneed to talk to now, talk about
now. So they bring in TaraCinco and give him the money, and
now they're screwed on a young prospectlike Pinto that's proven to be a pretty

(35:55):
decent score in the National Hockey League. Really handcuffed themselves here, didn't they.
Well, I'm just thinking of guys, you can move out to what
who in the league's gonna do thema favor? Well, though they're gonna
have to pay for it for sure. The only good thing that fucking that

(36:20):
Ottawa has here is Pinto cannot beoffsheeted. That's the only leverage that they
have right now because he's a tenpoint two c. So I'm just like,
like, why did they I understandwhy they brought in Tara Shinkle,
but like, why did you bringin Kuba Leakue for two and a half
mil when you could have just gavethat to Pinto? To Pinto? Right,

(36:43):
It's almost like they got ahead ofthemselves. They overplayed their hand,
is what they did. Yeah, exactly, And I wonder that that and
that makes me worry if Buffalo willend up doing the same thing. Yeah,
you know, giving a little bullerextra here to to solidify ideals.
Well, you can do that once. When you start doing these three four
times, that starts to haunt you. It'll be interesting, interesting version of

(37:07):
three questions coming up next, Ohthan a fifth grader. It's time for
three questions. Okay. Number one, who will remain an impact player longer
in the National Hockey League Vegekin orCrosby Crosby. That's easy. Crosby is

(37:32):
a center. Crosby is faster,Crosby is more dynamic. Yeah, defensively
Crosby's Cosey's buried everything except scoring athitting. Sorry Jesus battle in here.
Number two, who was the mostimpactful player in the first week of the

(37:53):
season. I would say Matthews orPatterson for me, I mean, I
don't know. Hid Matthew six sixgoals and Patterson had a goal and five
assists. Yeah, they were notThey were number one and two and three
Stars of the Week. Question numberthree. Biggest surprise in the first week

(38:15):
of the season for why I didnot expect to sleep the Oilers. That
was a surprise, giant surprise Oilerszero and two obviously. Uh, you

(38:37):
know what I think the biggest surpriseto me is that the goaltending on the
teams we had question marks on arethriving. No, they're not thriving.
Why what about Vegas? Yeah, but a lot of teams that we get
questioned the goaltending on LA. Imean, there's a whole bunch of l
A l A. You told methe camp tell what's going to be in

(38:59):
the Vesta conversation. I still believeyou will be but right now. But
initially a lot of talk around theleague was that the word goes out that
is is LA's goaltending good enough forthem to be a solid playoff contender?
And everybody said no, yeah, and so far they haven't shown their worth,

(39:20):
right, we haven't been same thingin Edmonton, same thing in Buffalo
there was question marks and we haven'tseen good goldending there. Tampa Bay there
was question marks. We haven't seengood goltending there. It's biting people in
the ass right now, it reallyis. Yeah, it makes me happy
that my team went out and gotproving back up so I don't have to
deal with that shit well season,So you know, so he quiet listener

(39:44):
question, Alex, what's your thirdquestion? That was it biggest surprise of
the first listener question? Alex Linderand Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Edmonton,
and Vancouver started their season with awith a with rosters a player short,
do do salary cap constraints? Inthe next CBA, should there be roster

(40:05):
rules that teams must dress twenty players. I mean, I don't think it
matters. I mean, like you'replaying short handed on per like it's your
choice to play short handed. It'sall I mean, I guess to be
CAP compliant. I mean, ifit is what is, you have to
deal with it. You're not yourshort guy. This is what it is.

(40:25):
Okay, But here's the flip sideof this. So that puts more
stress on the players on your team. Yeah, no, I I understand
like it makes you. I'm lookingat it from both sides. I see
both sides. I'm looking at itfrom an NHLPA perspective. I can see
where they would be like, no, I don't like that it's putting too
much on other players. And nope, I mean work would be the NBA.

(40:50):
Those guys take off every third gamebecause they're tired, and we got
the NHL guys. We think aboutthe NBA. If they went and said,
all right, we're gonna dress sixguys tonight, well, players would
be like, no, that's bullshit. I'm taking the night off because I
have a stubb. Okay, butsix guys compared to like I'm using as

(41:14):
an example because they don't pull offthe bench as much as hockey does.
They use about nine guys a game. Okay, so what if they could
only do seven, I think they'dbe okay. Well then okay, if
they're okay with that, then whyare they taking maintenance days? Not anymore?

(41:35):
They got a new policy in place. Do you think that they're not
gonna come up with ways to manipulatethat? They might? For sure,
I ask, But also but alsoNBA, if if you played seven guys,
that means six guys are playing thewhole game pretty much that that's that's
double of what you would play ifyou're a star NHL player, just forty

(41:58):
eight minutes. I'm just saying thatopens up so poor general manager maintaining the
salary crap opens up injuries to yourother player. That's a characters players opportunity
to thrive in a higher role.Get more. I OKAYSSA, I don't

(42:20):
know. It was a very veryvery exciting person week to an alf the
