(00:21):
I'm to talk a little NHL hockey. This is the Debate Hockey podcast.
I'm the host of show. BradRude join on such Blake Friars Blake.
We're getting to that Thanksgiving mark andwe're not too far up on that.
Let's see where the team shakeout. We would definitely be talking about that in
the coming episode. Today. Wegot lots dot com in the show.

(00:44):
Uh yeah, one as some thingsthis week. It's an interesting week in
the National Hockey League. Some majorstories, some minor stories. We'll touch
on all of them today. Doyou ever watch the T and T broadcast?
Uh? Yeah, you can fromtime to time. Yeah, I
know, it's it's the sports thatsometimes carries the late game. So I
watched, Uh what game was itlast week? It was Colorado, New

(01:07):
Jersey. Uh so that I watchedthat game. There's there was a lot
of big hits of that, likeHughes got hammered behind the net and uh
Miles Wood hammered somebody. It waslike, holy shit, like what's going
on here? But yeah, itwas a good game. I'm not a
Bisonette fan, but I had tolaugh last week. I don't know if
you saw it on Twitter Tues.Hold on, hold on, you say

(01:30):
what you want to say what youwant about Bissinet when he came on,
when he came on Hockey nine inCanada, added a different element. And
he's not afraid that. He's notafraid to speak his mind. He tells,
he tells the truth, says itout is. I honestly wish more
people were like that. There's toomuch just scripted stuff like Ron McLean,
he's pret scripted, right, Blake, the last non scripted guy got fired.

(01:53):
They all get fired, they do, they do. Everybody like hear
me on everybody's talking to out DonCherry. Yeah, everybody in the National
Hockey League wants outgoing players and commentators. But then when they say something that's
even close to crossing the line, they're blackballed. That is true, but

(02:13):
it is totally true. But alot of people like this. He's he's
pretty well like business is gonna getfired. This is gonna get fired.
He will I think t n tt N t tn T lets him do
whatever he wants. So that's thething, okay, but society won't.
Blake, No, it hasn't notbeen yeats what this is your three watch

(02:36):
just watch and I don't mind him. But here's what I don't like about
him. Listen here here, ifBiz gets fired, he goes to spit
and Chick lits and does the samething. Who cares? Here, here's
spitting chick. This isn't paying thebills like J P and T is.
Sure By, he's a former player. He's got lots of money, a
former mediocre player. Sure still gotto still got an NHL contract. Depends

(03:00):
on how he managed his money, right, Okay, but hear me out
on this. Here's what I don'tlike about him, compared to like a
Kevin bix Kevin Bixa says it,what says what he same way as Bisonette,
but BX but Bissinette has to goaround spouting off that he's got Babcock
fired and he did this and justlike he's like the reason for all this,

(03:23):
Like come on, come on,Yeah, that part I don't really
like about it. But I meanI like the way he talks about the
game. He says it how itis, and I wish to honesty more
people are like that. I didlaugh though. Last week he's showing it.
They're doing a demonstration and he's standingbehind Anson Carter. Did you see

(03:45):
that on Twitter? He's giving hima couple of shots in the back.
Oh God, I thought that washilarious. Jerseys. Who do you think
number one selling jersey is this year? It's gotta be connor By Hard Who's
number two? Number two? Oh? McDavid, d Residle, Jack Hughes.

(04:05):
That's not Chocker. Three's Marshaw forsCrosby's. Five's passernickt six is bergeron
seven? You're not in the leagueanymore? Still in since what it is?
Seventh is Ovechkin, eighth, capriceof nine McKinnon, Hen mccarr nice.

(04:29):
So, speaking of jerseys, didyou see what the Hurricanes are doing
on February Town That was gonna beone of my questions. We'll touch on
that later. We'll touch on thatlater, touch on it later, touch
on it later. All right, tons of talk about let's talk about the
leaking oilers will go around the league, talk about some lost players, talk

(04:49):
about some trade requests. McDavid.McDavid got his first point nuh four games,
so it's good. And then we'llrun down the highlights of the first
month of the National Hockey League andtalk a little bit about the Hockey Hall
of Fame induction. All right,So last week Thursday night, everybody is

(05:17):
glued to the TV set for anine to thirty start, a late ass
start, but we're all going tostay up to watch the carnage. How
sadistic is that? But we alldid, every one of us, every
single one of us is savages andjust we wanted blood. We wanted to
be like when you hate a teamso much you'd love to see him suffer.

(05:43):
You just like kick a man whilehe's down extra hard. You know
they're there. They got two ofthe best players in the world. Me
and you both predict them to goto the Stanley Cups. We're not the
brightest guys in the room right now, one of us looking a little brighter
than the other one when the othernot as much. I have him winning
this Downley Cup. So not notthe brightest guy. You went, you

(06:08):
went as so far to double downon that, and you spelled rand and
I doubled out. I was outon a weekend of the season no shot.
Listen though, on our episode wherewe talked about crazy predictions, you
spouted off that McDavid is going togo off this year and the numbers are
going to be astronomical. It's ajoke. This guy's got to be hurt.

(06:29):
Man, he's got he has oneassist his last five games. Well,
he's got two goals, two goals. He's on pace for eighteen goals,
seventy five points. What is that? He looks like that, disinterested,
like he just gotta assist. Youdidn't even get excited. He looks
he look depressed. He's full ofparty right now. He's in he's in

(06:51):
fifth grade. Pup molde. Ohmy god, help the problem. But
anyways, we all watch the Sharksoilers on Thursday night. Oh yeah,
Sharks win three to two, andthe Oilers had tons and tons of chances
to eighteen. And there is somuch wrong with with with Edmonton. First,

(07:13):
Jack Campbell gets assigned to Bakersfield. He goes there and he had to
say an awful outing in Bakersfield. The guy baby Canucks got the Vancouver Canucks
organization has broke Jack Camble. Butthen ago they go on this weekend and
they fire Woodcraft and here's where itstarts getting interesting. Then they hire this

(07:36):
I call him Chuck no block.I know it's not Chuck because Chuck now
blocks. It's uh, it's no, it's like non lock or something.
I don't know. It's not block, it's not block. It's the same
with do you know who Chuck naBlock is? Do you know who he
is? No infielder, second basement, Minnesota Twins World Series. Yeah,

(07:57):
that's in nineteen ninety one, man, I would have it wasn't even seven
or ninety one. They wanted.Their last World Series was ninety one seven,
ninety one, No. Ninety one, and the then eighty seven and
ninety one, eighty seven and ninetyone ninety seven. This guy says,
okay, okay, it's less ofbaseball. But anyways, so they get

(08:18):
this guy from HL Hartford. Theyhave to talk to the Rangers to get
permission to bring in Connor McDavid's oldjunior coach, and then Connor McDavid looks
us dead in the eye and said, I really didn't know. It was
a surprise to me, are youHe goes, He goes, I found
out the same as you woke upto a tax I'm like, what,

(08:41):
Oh, David just got a goal. Oh no, he's back. Whatevernor
McDavid is running here's the thing. This is a recipe for disaster. Here's
the thing. Okay, Connor McDavid'sformer agent is the CEO of PRESS,
a CEO of hockey operations. Henow has his former junior coach, and

(09:05):
their big splash was to bring inhis ex line Maden Irian Connor Brown,
who has zero goals like fat Lebron. I don't know, man, that
is it's basically what it is.Like. It's like they are doing operation
whatever it takes to keep McDavid happyin Beton. That's what it is.
But what does that got you sofar? Well, my dad made a

(09:28):
funny comedy, goes, he goes, it's not always good when the when
the hens are running the coupe.I was like, it's not a bad
it's not a bad thing, butuh, it's true. I look at
this team, right, Yeah,I see this press conference and it's the
most it's the biggest debacle of apress consint. Did you watch it?
Did you watch it? It wasa train wreck. So so correct me

(09:50):
if I'm wrong. So Ken Hollandsays, we talked to the players about
it, and we discussed and thenthe CEO says, yeah, no,
we didn't talk to any of theplayers about I'm like, wait a second,
did he just like say the completeopposite thing? Right now? They're
just lying full and lies as Yeah, what is happening? I mean,

(10:13):
No, I didn't. Non Blockdidn't even get to pick his own staff.
No, and Ken Holland had toanswer this question for now Block because
Tom Block didn't know the answer duringthe press conference. And then they go
on to hire you here to DaveManson too, and they hire Paul Coffee.
Did you hear Paul Coffee said Ididn't really want the job? No,

(10:35):
I didn't. I didn't. Ididn't know that. But I will
say Paul Coffee is gonna be Ithink I would be a good eye for
him because he's he's a very he'sa pretty he's a smart guy. I
mean he's okay, but think aboutthis, we know that much. He
doesn't have much coaching experience. ButI mean blake time on time on.
When you think of Paul Coffee withthink what type of defenseman do you think?
Offensive? Defensive? But that Iunderstand that, but he know he

(11:01):
understands the game exceptionally well. Well, hopefully he understands how to create defense,
because the problem in Edmonton isn't justthe goaltenders. No, I think
it's there is. There's a laundrylist of stuff that's going on wrong with
the Oilers. So they've rolled throughfifteen plus goalies, right, you can't

(11:22):
tell me that one of them isn'ta decent goalie. You know what the
problem is? There is no defenseon this team. There's never been a
defensive buying from the forwards, andthere's no defense from the defense. They
get walked nurses, atrocious. Yeah, who Shard is just all offense?
Could care less about defense. He'ssee the pinch? Did you use the

(11:43):
pinch? Two weeks ago against Vancouver? They pinch all the time. Did
you watch tonight at all? They'repinching and pinching and pinching. This team's
gonna get a blitterate. There's atime and a place for that. Like,
there's a time and a place tobe aggressive, but you got to
you gotta make calculated decisions. They'renot, and they're leaving their goalies on
to Dryan. I'm not defending Campbell'sbeen bad and scary. He's a escapegoat.

(12:03):
He's a scapegoat, and so isJay Woodcroft. He's a scapegoat.
Jay Woodcroft has the best winning percentagein Oiler's history sixty six forty okay,
but he also had Connor McDavid andthe Leon Dreysle scoring at that rate.
Here here's one of the things. Here's one of the things that Missles blows
my mind about Woodcraft. It's there'sno accountability held on the place. Oh

(12:26):
no, oh no, I meanso let me finish my comment here.
Okay, So there's no accountability, right. The players all say they love
him, well, no shit, they love him because there's no accountability,
right, No one's held accountable foranything. So the players say they're upset
because they they didn't think it wasa fair fire. But now they bring
in another coach who's a first timeNHL coach, and he's going to create

(12:46):
about he's going to create accountability inthis country club atmosphere of the Edmonton Oilers.
It's ah, I don't like sayingthis as a fan, but their
country club ship reminds me of Vancouverwith Budo, Like there was just no
accountability. There was no account butthey had they had good players, but

(13:09):
there was no there was no accountYou didn't have a defense Blake, you
know, okay, but but theystill had good players. But there was
no accountability, and talking comes in. Talking comes in, and Miller's bench
and Khu's Maco's benched, and youmake mistakes, you're you're planned to the
bench pitches. He didn't miss ashift after that pinch at Vancouver. There's

(13:31):
no accountability. It's it's bad. Here's the difference with what Breu Dreaux had.
I mean, you can't throw Boudreauunder the bus here because Boudreau did
not have the same team the Tacathas other than what four players pretty pretty
key players though, right, yeah, for sure, pretty klee players.
Because what creates good hockey is agood defense. And you said it on

(13:54):
our last podcast. Good offense iscreated through good defense. And here Vancouver's
had good defense. It's created offensiveopportunities and it's opened the doors too many
many new things. Without that,if you don't have Carson Sussie, you
don't have ronic, you don't haveyour Your team is a whole different team.
And that's the team wood rowhead Kay, now Woodcraft, he has no

(14:16):
defensive structure at all. I don'teven think he tried to coach. They
don't even have much depth either. That's the thing. Well, they can't.
They can't afford depth. I meanwhen you got nurse making more money
than the car. I mean, you can't afford depth when you make bad
contracts, right and you have Campbellgetting X amount of dollars and you got
you just can't you start, youstart not being able to have any depth

(14:37):
at all. Because I laughed, like, oh why did uh, why
did they let Woodcraft coach in Seattle? They had their mind made up after
the game in San Jose and yourdecision was made Saturday. No, it
was no, it was me.I guarantee you. After the salas a

(14:58):
game, they said, after thisrow trip, we're making a coaching change.
You're not. You're not gonna You'renot gonna bring in a new coach
in the middle of a road trip. That was never gonna happen. They
had to interview, they had toget permission to interview, they had to
go. Yeah, but their mindwas made up on Thursday that the lot.
The last straw was a was anotherforty plus shot effort and there's no

(15:18):
defense and there and you got nosaves. That was that was the last
straw was Thursday night. And whatI mean. At the same time,
you do feel for the Oilers alittle bit. They have eight losses.
When they've when they've had forty shotson net and they've allowed less than twenty,
you don't feel for teams to doright, I under I understand that.

(15:39):
But there has been a lot ofgoals. There has been a lot
of goals that went straight through thegoalies, a lot like that goal,
that goal that that uh sounds's firstgoal. It went right under the armor
Campbell, no traffic, nothing. They have not had good goal to I
am the first to admit that. But this isn't just on the goalies.

(16:00):
If they think that this is justa goalie problem, it's not a goal
It's not a goalie problem though,Brad. But I'm saying is when your
team is so fragile and your goaliethat's in a soft goal, it's like
here we go again. Now we'rechasing the game. Every when you get
no saves, there's no confidence. You're there like, holy shit, man,

(16:22):
we gotta we gotta like grip oursticks and we gotta score five goals
to win. And the Oilers thatlike they're but but it's just I agree
completely with what you're saying, buthaving that mentality of a home all this
is gonna be hard. We haveto score five. Wouldn't it just be
easier to be like, you knowwhat, boys, we need to be
more defensive responsible, and then thiswill come for sure offensively talented. So

(16:48):
now we just got to be sureup defensively and that comes from the forwards
too. That means back checking,That means staying on your guy, that
center down low, taking his guys. You see that play by dry side
against he just like coasted on hisown, coasted on his own, led
his man to the net and bingo. It's like they're in full poor memode.

(17:08):
They were. They were in fullpoor memode. And and and then
shakeup had to happen. Woodcroft hedeserves he's a scapegoat. No, he's
no, he had something to dowith this, so he didn't institute accountability
in a system. Listen, it'sthe exact same team as last year,
the same team that had fifty wins. What do you what do you?

(17:29):
What do you mean? What whatdo you what do you you know?
Just don't forget how to score goals. It's the same team it was the
same team that took Vegas to Gamesix in the Conference finals. They're not
getting they're not getting saves. Isthey're not getting saves. They're not scoring
on the power play. They're they'rethey're power play merchants, Dry Siddle and

(17:52):
mcdated both. They get a lotof points in their power play. Their
power play is not producing. They'renot getting saves, they don't play defense.
There's a lot. There's a lotof wrong with the Oilers right now.
There's a lot. So how longbefore it's too long to dig themselves
out of this? Honestly? Thatthat is? That is one of my
questions. You want to answer thatquestion now, we'll do two questions later.
Yeah, my question is, letme pull it up. How many

(18:18):
games is appropriate? That's too late? How dig? How deep of a
hole can you dig in? Whatis this game fifteen? There's what three
to nine and two? There arenine nine points out of fourth place?
Yeah, that's a lot. Whatdoes Vancouver have on him? Eighteen points
Vancouver has? Yeah, like that'sa that's that's that's nine straight losses for

(18:40):
Vancouver and ninth straight win for thetwenty three points on him. Yeah,
they're not catching that no, no, that's that's not right. Then Vancouver
is only one point. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. No,
they have eighteen points on him.Yeah, that's it's a lot like
that's I was reading a stat thatthe Oilers would have to play at like

(19:03):
one hundred and eight point pace justto get the ninety two points. It's
gonna be tough, it's easy, like it's I think if they get to
thirteen fourteen losses before they get toseven eight wins, might be in trouble.
So how how many years are wegonna go before we quit here in
this well? The Saint Louis Blues, Yeah, it's that's that's that's that's

(19:27):
I mean, I they that wasn'tthat was at Christmas and they were they
were seventeen twenty. The Oilers arethree and eleven, like they were around
five hundred when they made the change. Yeah, sure they were in thirty
first place. They were. Theywere a bad team, but the coaching,
the coaching change, that's that's asimilarity. But they also had Jordan

(19:49):
BINNEYTNT come up and go fifteen oneand one his first seventeen starts. I
don't see any run like that happeningwith any goalie on Edmonton, get me
wrong. Do Skinner have potential?Could it? Could he be a good
goalie, Sure he could, Butright now he's got no confidence. I
would just love to see what hewould be like if they play defense in

(20:11):
front of him. He played alittle bit of defense in front of him.
They allow so many point blank shotsbecause their defensemen are chasing all over
the place. They literally do notknow where they're supposed to belong. And
that's the problem. It is anaccountability, it is. And I don't

(20:32):
like bringing up talking a lot,but his philosophy of defense, though,
his philosophy of defense, how heexplains it is make the goalie play half
the net, like, don't allowthe as many cross ice pass and back
doors. Make him play half thenet and it's way less taxing than your
goalie. That makes makes so muchsense. Oh, I know what.
The letters can't even get to thatpart because they have somebody pinching so far

(20:56):
up that they don't ever have anybodyback. Yeah. It's freaking three on
ones and two on ones like youwouldn't believe, right, Yeah, it
makes it tough. Yeah. Onefinal thing on the Oilers and I want
to want to move on. ButI had to laugh a little bit because
I saw a bunch of rumors thisweek about Carter Hart getting traded to Edmonton,
and I had to chuckle at that. Boy, wouldn't it be so

(21:17):
Edmonton Like if they get Carter Hartand then week after it gets suspended for
the problems on Team Canada. Wouldn'tthat about this? If I'm the Edmonton
Oilers, I am doing whatever ittakes to trade for UC sorrows. That's
the that's it. What why not? You know what I would do?

(21:41):
You might call me an. Youmight you might absolutely call me an idiot
for saying this, and blaste meon social media if you want. Would
the Oilers ever think about trading Leondry Sidle to get some help, to
get some help, to get agoalie and get at a defenseman and spread

(22:02):
that money out elsewhere. Well,I'll do it. I'll trade to Jacob
Markstrom. I'll retain three million dollars. I'll throw in tan Of and Zadora.
But but but hear me out, what a ucy sorrows plus plus for
a dry Sidle interest Nashville? Ithink they would listen. They would listen.
They would listen. And I think, honestly, for the oilers going

(22:25):
forward, you're gonna have to getcreative because they got no cap If you
can turn dry Sidle into a sixmillion dollar contract in sorrows and other help,
I think you have to be opento that. Yeah, but you
wait a second. We need tolook at his contract because I think he
has he's got two he's got twoyears left. It's this year and next
year. Yeah. But what I'mwhat I'm saying is like I think he's

(22:51):
got a no trade, no move. He's not doing that. He has
a no move yes, full nomove, full no move. He's a
modified no trade and then no moveclause says oh yeah, I don't know
how yeah. Both. But that'swhat cap friendly says. Let's see,
I don't know, it's what itsays. Guys. Okay, so that's

(23:14):
not happening. But but but youget the idea, you get the idea,
you could get creative and something likethat. I could I could transfer
that idea and say that you couldprobably get Jacob Marx from out of Calgary
for the right price. Yeah, not for I wouldn't take no, gosh,

(23:36):
no, I'm not saying dry.Okay, okay, Jesus, did
you when is the last time? When is the last time? Uh?
Battle of ar Berta made a tradelike that? I got, I got
that just a couple of years ago. Who the heck was they did?
They made a trade like three orfour years ago? They did? They

(23:57):
did. Yes, they made atrade like three or four years ago.
Google it. I know they madea trade three four years ago. Oilers
and Flames trade history. I meanit's there's not a lot, I'll tell
you that. I can promise youthat, but I do know that they
just made They made one a fewyears ago. Oh you're crying. No,

(24:19):
No, it was lu Chees forChames Neil. Shit, there you
go, shit, there you go. First Oilers trade was in twenty ten.
Steve's Steve Staos, Yeah, SteveStaos. Uh. Lauren Bresois was

(24:41):
another one twenty nineteen. Yeah, the LOUCHI was in twenty nineteen. They
picked up. There's only been threethere's only been three trades. There's only
been three trades. Isn't that crazy? These teams have been around for a
long times, Lily been three trades. It's not that crazy, But like
it's It's like, like, Iagree, they they probably should shot mark

(25:07):
Strom. He's playing well. Hisvalue is pretty high right now because Dustin
Wolf has to play. He didn't, he didn't have the greatest showing in
Ottawa. But the kid, thekid's gotta play. I just can't wait
to see what Calgary fans say whenthey've like they've talked about this guy like
he's Jesus, and what if hedoesn't pan out? And that is a

(25:32):
possibility. He's pretty tiny. Howmany goalies in the NHL that are under
six foot have had a good career. There ain't many. Well, and
you've got to put a time frameon that. In the last decade for
sure, for that was a lotof them, right, but that the
style has changed. Everybody goes downthe butterfly now like it's changed. It's

(25:53):
changed. Mikey, you remember Mikedeep Pietro, big hot shot out of
the way, cell drafted the thirdround by the Canucks. I don't even
think he made the league anymore, and they traded into Boston. It happens.
Man, Its goalies is the toughestthing, toughest thing out there,
and the Oilers do need some savesthough. Man, well, they need

(26:15):
some saves, but they need somedefense defense. He Skinner's played well today.
He's had thirty three stops. They'reup three to one, so we'll
see what happens there. Shout outto our sponsors Apparel of Bandits, custom
hockey logo gear, some really reallycool stuff from brands like an All,
CCM sport Tech Sports, New EraHats, great stuff. Check out apparel

(26:38):
bandits dot com just below. Inthe link you'll be able to click on
them and uh, lots of coolCCM stuff. You can get your logo
put on, really really good stuff. It is time to go around the
league a right players. There aresome players this year that are lost,

(27:03):
a lost lost. I can namea few, Connor McDavid, Jonathan hubert
oh John Klingberg, Jack Drew Goodrow, Matthew Barzel. The list goes on
and on, really good hockey playersthat I wouldn't even say are struggling.
They are completely absent. Yeah, why is this? I I I have

(27:25):
no answers for Huberto and good Drowright now. I don't know what.
I don't know what to make ofthat. It's it's uh, you got
hubert O getting benched to two ofthe last four games, in the third
period one he didn't even play singleshift. And then and then he responds
and in uh against Toronto. Ithought he had a really really good game
in Toronto, he made a gooddefensive play in overtime, he looked,

(27:49):
he looked energized. Thought he hada solid game. And then the game
after he's just a no show againstAttaba. So I I don't know,
man, It's there's there's definitely aplaying in Canada and the pressure and getting
a big contract that that has somethingto do with it. He's obviously not

(28:10):
living up to any of that. And I thought he would have a better
year. We both kind of predictedyou have a bounce back, Yere,
and it just hasn't. It hasn'tworked out. And you can say the
same thing for Godroau. And whatI would say is sometimes the grass isn't
always greener on the other side, right, And we've seen that before,
right. Campbell had something good,a good thing going in Toronto. They

(28:33):
ran him out, but he hada good thing going there, and and
and he signs that big contract Dmontonand he hasn't been anything what he was
in Toronto. Nothing, Well, you know, I can't ever say that
Toronto's defense is great, but they'rea little bit more responsible than Edmonton's,
but way more responsible. Yes,right, he just looks like a shell

(29:00):
of himself, like he's been He'sso beaten down that I think his confidence
goaltending. He's all the book confidence. If you have no confidence as a
goal that you're shear screwed. Soa guy that I want to pinpoint is
John Klingberg. Is he like nottrying or does he? I mean he
is just not defensively, like awareat all. The defensive display that he

(29:25):
put on against the Ottawa Senators wasone of the worst I've ever seen.
This guy falls to the blue line, gets up, takes a couple of
head looks and watches Jeru just floatback door for a tap and didn't even
extend a stick. Nothing, justanother goal. I'm going to the bench.
We both called this the horrible signingfor the Leafs. Horrible. We

(29:47):
both said it right there. Forbillion dollars for one year. There's no
such thing as a bad one yeardeal. I'll be on the record saying
that because if it doesn't work out, you let him go. But I
mean, given four million to himhim. Wouldn't you rather have traded for
a Sean Dursey or signed even aMatt Dumba for four million bucks? Like
huh what happens though? Like, okay, so what happens next year?

(30:11):
Is he even able to sign anywhere? If he is, it's gonna be
for the bat minimum. He ain'tgetting much, like it's I don't know,
man, it's not good. LikeMatthew Barzell's struggling. I know he's
scored tonight, McDavid score tonight, but he's struggling. Uh for that met

(30:33):
her dry cyclist struggling too. Andyou know, you look around this and
it just seemed to be an epidemicthis year. We get a lot of
big names, you know, whenwhen Johnny Goudreau is not scoring, Johnny
Goodreau is worthless, Johnny gadrou isnot doing anything. He's not doing anything,
not doing anything, Like it's wouldyou trade Hubido for Johnny? I

(30:55):
don't know, I don't know.I saw it on Twitter. I'm like,
oh no, oh no, Imean it's been all over Twitter.
But what do you do you know? O? Man? Twitter is not
Twitter is not a safe place whenyour team is sucking it is one of
the worst places to be and it'sone of the best places when your team

(31:17):
is winning. Speaking of Zadoroff's agentgoes to Twitter to be the Allen Walsh
look alike and fire off that hisplayer, Hey does Zadoroff wants a trade
out of Calgary because he's upset becausehe got fifteen minutes the other night.
Says he's the best defenseman on theCalgary Flames. He's not wrong. What

(31:41):
he's not wrong? It's him him, it's him or Anderson Anderson by far
Awagerdorf. But Zadoroff is not agood defensive player. He's not horrible.
Did you watch the Ottawa game theother night? Not horrible up the middle,
in the back of the net. Now, here's my two grapes on

(32:05):
this. If you don't want toplay, that's fine, that's fine.
Well why do agents have to dothis in public? What does that gain?
What does that mean? It?Well, if you're if you're if
you're Calgary, you're loving this. You're loving this. If you're Craig Conroy,
what he just did all the workfor you and now there's going to
be a bidding work created. That'sbasically what his agent just did Calgary.

(32:30):
You ain't trade him until you getwhat you want. I'm not Russian.
No, No, you got allthe time in the world. You got
the Canucks, you got the Devils, you got Toronto all interested in this
guy, and now you're going tocreate a bidding works. It's great for
a Calgary fan, it's great.But you know what I don't understand.

(32:50):
Nikita Zadorov looked at the media threeweeks ago and said, the problem is
we have too many individuals on thisteam. And then three weeks later he
pulls an individual move and says Iwant out. I want out a lot
and change, a lot and changein three weeks. Look like a hypocrite.
Sure you could hypocrite. You couldsay that players that say, well,

(33:15):
we want out, we want out, we want out. Yeah,
the grass isn't always greener, rightJohnny. No, No, that's what
I literally just said. I justget frustrated, Like, if you want
to get traded, that's fine, but that's something your agent goes to the
general manager in private hunt to haveto go to Twitter. Is this unprofessional?
It's an Alan Walsh move and he'snot. He's not. The door

(33:36):
is not wrong though, with theindividual stuff, because lind Holm has been
a shell of himself. I'm notno, no, I'm not saying he's
wrong, but it's pretty damn hypocriticalfor him to paint his picture that he's
a team guy and now he's walkingout on the team, right right,
That's all I'm saying. The guylikes to talk too much. The guy

(33:59):
likes to talk too much. Yeah, and he talks the talk and he
says he's a number one two defenseman, but he's really not. He's a
three four, he's a three four. He's a good three four. Yeah,
he's good three four, not nota one two. Yeah. And
if he thinks he is, findme a team outside of Edmonton where he's
a one too, he would lookdamn near good beside old Ian Cole.

(34:23):
I don't it's gonna cost a lotto get him. I don't. I
don't think that then, and thenwhat are you gonna then what's he gonna
ask for? He's gonna ask foran exorbitant contract next year out of this
world contract. I don't think he'sgonna get it. Okay, But but
going back to going back to theCalgary forwards, man, like, what
is going what is going on withLane Holme. Condrey has been better as

(34:43):
of late. Dubay has been betteras of late. Like I like that.
I like the kids, man,I I like that. What the
hell is named up? I callhim Popsicle, I don't know, say
his last day Popsile or whatever thehell's name. He's a good little guy.
He got I'm just saying Connor Sarilike they got something. They've injected

(35:06):
a lot of youth. And that'swhat Calgary Flames fans have been been pounding
the damn table for is to getthem youth, movement and air. And
they're producing the youth are right noware carrying this team. I'm not carrying
them too far. They've only gotfour wins, but they're at least creating
a spark. I guess that's thebest way to well. It give us
the fans hope because it's that's thefuture, right And and if you look
at Calgary's system, you got Coronadolighting it up in the HL. You've

(35:31):
got uh Littler, who's who's anup and coming prospect? Like you got
some, you got some, yougot some good players and Hansea is another
guy. Like they got some goodyoung players and that that's something to be
excited for. And now maybe youcan trade lind Home for a haul of
the deadline, you trade Chris Tannafor a first round pick or a second
round pick. You trade Zdar fora second and some prospects, and all

(35:52):
of a sudden you trade all yourpenning UFAs and and you and you beef
up your system and you enter alittle re tool, rebuild, whatever you
want to call it, because that'sthe need to happen. That's it needs
to happen here. You don't haveto get some you have to shrip the
defense just a little bit, alittle bit. But there is a lot
of good young pieces to be excited. And you got Dustin Wolf who who

(36:13):
could be a good goalie. We'llsee, we'll see a month one takeaways.
Matthew is still one of the bestgoal scorers in the league, better
than a ship. Hey, youknow what gap has been closed? Mister,
You know what gap has been closed? The Quinn using Cale mccarr gap

(36:36):
is closed and is closed. It'sclosed. Its cal mccar is a top
three player in the league. Okay, do you know who's third in the
NHL and scoring his name is QuinnHughes. Yes, but Quinn Hughes is
still not a superstar defenseman. Okay, but the gap is the gap is
closed. Let's just let's just goon. Well, he's still not McCarthy.

(36:57):
You asked all thirty two general managers. They'll think mc are over him,
they will. McCart doesn't look thatgreat this year, dude. I've
watched him a few games. Hedoesn't look that good. Right now,
we'll see, we'll see just whatI think. It's closed. If it's
not closed, it's almost closed.I've noticed this this month that Mason mccavish
is going to be a superstar inthis league. He's a stunt, he's

(37:21):
a stuck. I think the Canuckslook like serious contenders. I think.
I don't love that word you justuse their. I think I think Boston
is the best team in the league. Yeah, but they just keep rolling
like gold times. Man. Idon't know, man. I think that
we're gonna have a pretty fun calledthe race we oh we are? Did

(37:45):
you see Bard's second goal? Raboskigoes to seal the bottom of the night
in Pacos Thank you, Mary challhas picked that short side top shelf it's
oh my god, Hockey Hall ofFame tonight we're announced, announced, but
inducted tonight, Hendrik Lundquist like Vernon, Tom Barrasso, Pierre On Caroline.

(38:07):
I just said that. I justsaid it wrong. Uh, Pierre Lacroix
and Can Hitchcock. Uh goalie heavy, goalie heavy. You know. I
like this induction thing, but Ijust like like they let way too many
players in. So are you tellingme Hendrick Lundquist is not a Hall of

(38:27):
Fame goalie. No, I wouldsay he is. He's a top ten
goalie of all time. I don'tknow about that. He's really he's won
nothing. Okay, la Wongo's laWongo's the top five all time. He's
won nothing. Long was not topfive. He is top five. He's
third all time and wins. You'retalking about a top five goalie, all

(38:50):
top five goalie of all time alltime. You were born, because I'm
sure you got Carry Price in theretoo, so you're forgetting all these other
goalies that came before him. Okay, who's your top five? Who's your
top five? I mean I havebrod Her, I did I have ed

(39:13):
Bel four in there? A Bellfour. I would have Dominic hasseck in
there sure, and Martin Broder andPatrick Waugh. Those are my top four
that then, if Patrick Waugh wouldn'tmake my top five, I don't he
might, I'd have to sit downand really study it. Do it.
Let's do that. Next show,We're gonna name our top ten goalies of
all time. Let's do that.I'd be a good extrase to do.

(39:37):
Mike Vernon goes in tonight. Hewas a Stanley Cup champion for the Flames
in eighty nine, reds in ninetyseven counts. My trophy winner Tom Barrasso
goes in. He had the Calderthe first goal I can ever remember in
my life coming right out of highschool. Yeah, into the NHL.
Pierre Turjhon I this one surprising tome a little bit, but he did
have five hundred and fifteen goals intwelve sis Ken Hitchcock, I think he's

(40:02):
a shoe in a fourth amongst winsand coaches at eight hundred and forty nine
plus. The guy is probably themost interesting guy I've ever personally talked to
in my entire life. I'd loveto sit down for two hours with the
guy. Uh. Yeah, interestinginteresting selections this year all in all,
I thought pretty decent. I justI wish there was only two people or

(40:22):
three people a year that went in. I always look at it this way,
Blake, we got what did wehave? One, two, three,
four, five, six? Sevenpeople go in this year? Right?
Do we have? Do we haveseven players? Or do we have
seven people entering the hockey world thisyear that are going to all be Hall
of Famers. It's hard to believe, you see, if you put it

(40:44):
in terms that way, it's like, oh boy, yeah, I don't
know. I just feel like we'vegotten a little bit too soft on who
goes in and who doesn't. Butthat is probably an argument for another day.
It is time for three questions. It's time. We're three questions.

(41:06):
Last week I fired three questions upBlake. It is his turn this week.
We erased one of them already, which is good because we're running low
on time. We got two questionsright now, fire away, put your
GM cap on for the flames Ihave for the last week. What's your
ideal return for zadorof what what doyou look for in a return from frame?

(41:30):
A first and a first round pickand a bottom tier defenseman. Okay,
it's like a first round pick andlike a a NHL defense or a
prospect an NHL defenseman to stop gapjust to get us through the next year
or two. Okay. Their thoughtson the Whalers, Uh, Cooper ols

(41:52):
love it, absolutely love it.Want them to wear them during the game.
Are they gonna wear them during thegame. I don't know. I
heard multiple fly just wore them andwarm up, then they took them off.
I heard that they were gonna wearthem during the game. Everybody everybody's
like, oh, you slider aroundtoo much on them, And you know
what I did wear cooperl is growingup and you do slider around a little
bit. Okay, So that's way, that's the way before my time.

(42:14):
The girdles are the most comfortable andprotective things I've ever worn. Hold on
though, Hold on, dude,so that goes over your pants, right?
No, you don't wear pants. You wear you put your your leggings
on, or not your leggings, you put your hinger yep, And then
there's no way, there's no waythey're wearing them. Then the nhlp will

(42:37):
not allow them to to take Howhow are you gonna wear no pants?
You wear a girdle of full ofpads. It has more padding, and
the old Cooper ol pads had morepadding than the pants they were today.
Oh really, way more. Ihave to do some research on that,
and then they're more tight fit onyou and they're more comfortable. The only

(43:00):
the only problem with the pants isthat you slid around too much. I'm
telling you what, if you didn'tslide around in him, every freaking team
would still warm him to this daybecause they look cool. They look cool,
they look the girdles were. Thegirdles were comfortable. I thought,
I thought they were comfortable. Iwore him for two or three years,

(43:21):
and I remember the Brandon Wakings worethem for two or three seasons. Yeah.
I remember my first Brandon Weakings gameI went to in like nineteen eighty
two or eighty three. Ron Hextallwas the goalie. They freaking were Cooper
Alls. Yeah, that's just thatit wasn't that uncommon? Yeah, all
right, listener, question George PatellaVictoria BC. Patrick Kane has been rumored

(43:45):
to be signing with various different teams. If you were a general manager,
would you be open to signing himto a long term three plus year contract.
No, he's got right, andwho who will end up signing?
And who will he end up signingwith? He's scaring he's signing a one

(44:06):
year deal and it's gonna be foraround two to three million bucks more than
one year, because I know he'sgoing to demand next year too. Maybe,
I mean, I think he'll Ithink he'll take a one year deal
if he's smart. If he's smart, he signs a one year vetminh and
goes to a team that has achance to win a cop. He's got

(44:30):
lots of money, Well why nottake a one year seven? Why not
take a one year seven hundred andfifty k and go to a team like
Toronto. You do know who we'retalking about, right, No, I
understand that. But if I'm saying, if I was him, I would
sign for nine hundred and fifty kand go sign in Toronto. Would you

(44:50):
pick Toronto? Or would he he'sthere, he's training in Toronto. He's
training in Toronto right now. Orwould you pick Vegas. I'm saying any
contender, that's just an example.I would sign for nine hundred and fifty
k one year, and you yougo try and win another Cup. You
got you got bought so much money. He's rumored to go to Buffalo.

(45:13):
He ain't going to Buffalo. Idon't think he's going to Buffalo. You
said he was going to Buffalo. He's rumored to go to the Rangers.
Detroit's interested him. I could seehim going to Detroit. That to brnkat
connection, That's that's something to keepan eye on. A contender though,
Yeah, I don't know. Dallasis the one that keeps coming up.
That makes sense. It actually doesmake sense, it really does. All
