(00:21):
It is time for the Debate Hockeypodcast NHL Hockey Dot every single week and
knows the show braders joined alongside myco host like Briars and White. This
week, I don't know. It'sbeen a goofy week, goofy weekend.
Just I don't know. Yep,we got one team reeling and another team

(00:44):
uh taken off in the Pacific. It's been interesting to see that transpire.
But yep, we had some goofypenalty calls and rules that we're not in
the book. Yeah, it was. It's a weird week. One thing

(01:04):
I noticed very weird this week iswhat's Vancouver trying to do? They come
up with the Matt Black helmets lookawesome, like awesome, and now they
got these blue garbage helmets. What'swhat's going on? Well, I mean
it's it's ugly, it's uh,well what do you think of LA's and

(01:26):
Vegas is hate that's yeah, likeup close, like not on the ice.
I didn't mind it, but whenI saw them on the ice,
I wasn't really a fan. SoI love the Matt Black though. They
need they need to make those fulltime unis. It's insane. They just
need to do it so I Ireally like the Matt Black but hey,
they're they're fourteen and one. Arenot? Are they're ten and one in

(01:48):
the Blacks this year? That theyneed to make those playoff jerseys. I
don't think they can. Why believersthe league rule that you have no alternates
in the playoffs only were primaries inthe playoffs? What if they make them
their primary? They can't make itmid season. They could do it at
the end of the year. Theycan't do it mid season. I didn't

(02:10):
know that. I didn't know that. I remember that being talked about a
couple of years ago when who elsewas it was playing really good in their
alternates and it was another team thatwanted to do that, and I can't
remember who it was. Now.Was it Minnesota? No, No,
it wasn't Minnesota. God wins lasttime Minnesota went into the playoffs playing good.

(02:35):
I don't know. I'm just thinkingof those North Star jerseys. No,
that's recent. Those are Gills shouldbe there. Maybe the LA Kings
and their Crown jerseys as I don'tknow. I don't know. I'll think
about it. I'll watch you.I'll think about it tonight at about eleven
thirty oh, it'll come to me. Stadium jerseys. They keep making those
as ugly as they possibly can, with the Islanders and Rangers being real.
Oh yeah, I don't know aboutwho's designing these jerseys. They're awful.

(03:00):
It's just like a bold, justbold letter. It's just bold. It's
like they went in to a MicrosoftWord and said, we're gonna write down
New York and big bold. Youknow. The thing is, I guess
this shouldn't be something that frustrates meas much as it does. But the
reason it does is because of allthe four major professional sports, the hockey

(03:20):
jersey is the coolest jersey of allof them, right by a mile,
by a mile, And I worriedabout him with ads and if they keep
it to where they are now,I can live with. Yeah, it's
okay, it's just one. Butlike, you can't screw with hockey jerseys.
And there's been such a history ofjust really beautiful hockey jerseys and now

(03:43):
we have all these special jerseys andthey are hideous and I don't know,
it's just it's really bad. Anotherthing I didn't understand. This week,
Patrick Waller returns to Montreal and theyhave a big thing for him. I
don't he's been to my trail, sinse Like, what are we doing?
Has he as a head coach?Well yeah, maybe way back way back

(04:05):
in the day, but not that'slike ten that's that's ten years ago.
So we keep doing it over andover and over. Listen, when you're
a legend in that city, likePatrick Wise, you're gonna get it.
You're gonna get it standing. Oh, every time you go back, Like,
that's just the way, that's justthe way. That was like a
video thing though, No, theydid. They didn't do it. They
just put his highlights up there duringOh Canada. It wasn't they didn't give

(04:26):
him no video tribute. Well that'sprobably more than a video tribute if they're
doing it during the national anthem. No, they just like put the there.
They just put him like hoisting theStanley Cup and whatever. It wasn't
a big deal that this game isstanding ovation before the game and then now
is it that when you're such abeloved guy in that market, you're he's

(04:47):
gonna get it standing. Oh,every time he goes back he left the
market. Yeah, he still wonthem to Stanley Cups, Brad one two,
he won one in eighty six andninety three. He won one as
a rookie with Montreal. He camein there and stole the show. Which
year did he leave? He leftin ninety five he went to Colorado.

(05:10):
They won the Cup the first yearthey went from Quebec to Colorado. Then
ninety three team wasn't a great team. They won the Cup, but they
weren't a great team. Yeah theywere. They were a pretty bad team
that wereund around the All Star break. Then they just heat it up.
Yeah, gotto, you're hot theright you get in the playoffs and you're
you're hot the right time. Imean, anything can happen, dude.

(05:32):
Look at Florida last year went asan eight seed, beat the one,
two, three seeds in the Eastand went to the Cup. Like it's
every every single year. I feellike somebody, we'll tell you this so
on that I would. I wouldagree with you to an extent. But
there's teams that come in as aa seed that are good teams like Florida,
and then there's more in La.But La really the first year wasn't

(05:58):
no. They had struggled all year. Yeah, they went as an eight
and they beat they beat the PresidentTrophy Canucks. They beat the Blackhawks,
they were the two seeds. Theybeat the Sharks, who were a three
seed. Like it was crazy, but that and that, that's the same
as like when Calgary did an four. They weren't. They weren't a great
team all year, you know. But there's teams like with Florida last year.
They were a good, talented hockeyteam that just underachieved all season.

(06:21):
Right, Well, I'm trying tothink of other teams, like I've got
dogs four Ross four, the Calgarycomes to mind, the six Oilers come
to mind, the twenty eleven Kingscome to mind. Yeah, I'm trying
to think who else there was wonjust a few years ago to two thousand,

(06:41):
two thousand and six Carolina Hurricanes.Yeah, I would agree to it
a little bit. I'm trying tothink of more than more recent. But
there was one recently well, Delphia, Philadelphia, Montreal, COVID year Philadelphia
and twenty two. Yeah, theirstarting goalie was was Michael Layton and Brian

(07:04):
Bouchet. No offense, But likethat doesn't like knock your socks off,
Well, that happened with goaltenders.Did you think Chicago's goaltending didn't they have
now they Cup in twenty ten.Yeah. Yeah, he's not knocking any
socks off, right, No,find a job after that? Could No?

(07:25):
Well, they had to win gameslike seven to five and that's telling
cup final. That's crazy. Yeah, that was wild stuff. Today on
the show, we're gonna talk oppositedirections the Oilers and Kings had in opposite
ways. We'll go around the league, talk about UTAH L T I R
or not, Perry signs, Tippetre signs, press back and yeah,

(07:46):
this was the week of the FlyingElbows. There's definitely we've been a tail
of two seasons this year for Wolf, the Kings and the Oilers. Yeah,
started off as hot as you couldget in the National Hockey League.

(08:07):
I believe in some of the powerrankings weeks in and they were the number
one team and the Oilers were aslow as thirtieth. I believe in this
in the league's standings. Oh theywere thirty two. They were thirty two.
Yeah, but yeah, but thatwas only a few games in.
I believe they only fell as lowas thirty after they were like four,
twelve and three. At one pointthey were let's put it this way,

(08:31):
the first eighteen games of the year, they were five twelve and one.
Last twenty six games they were twentythree to three in all. Yeah,
their penalty kill went from seventy fourpoint six to eighty nine point nine.
Their power play went from twenty onepoint nine to thirty point one. Their
goals against per game went from fourpoint zero to one point nine to six.

(08:52):
Yeap crazy crazy stats. And uh, with the four to one win
over Nashville, that means that theyhave tied the twenty sixteen seventeen Columbus for
the second longest waiting streak in NHLhistory, Which that blew my mind that
it's Columbus. Yeah right, itis right, and then they're one backety

(09:15):
three pen or Penguins and the otherscan try tie it when we get back
to hockey after this stupid CBA breakon February sixth against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Yeah they so does every team havea break? No? Yes?
What? Yes? Is this theis this the built in Olympic break?

(09:35):
Is that what it's supposed to be? CBA break? They have it every
year. They it's a CBA break, it's in then, But I thought
they I thought they spread it outthough they piggyback it on the half.
The team's have it on the frontof the All Star Week and the other
half avenue on the backside. Okay, so we're gonna have limited hockey for
the next two weeks. Fun,fun, fun, fun fun. At

(09:58):
least we got the All Star Game. Oh shit, I'm not watching it,
So next week on the show,I'm not gonna be able to talk
about it because I'm not watching theOkay, I will say this. I
will say this. I will saythis. The NHL getting a million dollars
to the winner of the Skills. That's cool. That makes the players try
at least that makes it a littlecompetitive. Still not watching, you'll watch

(10:22):
the skills. No, if theytruly had the fastest skaters in the league
in the skills, are they notdoing that? I thought they're having designated
players. I thought they're having designatedplayers. Yes, of who are All
Stars, But I bet you onehundred dollars says there's not the All Stars
that are picked. They're not thefastest skaters in the league. Yeah,

(10:43):
I mean we we probably have ashot with Connor McDavid, obviously, but
there is some skaters in this leaguethat are. But like like two years
ago, Larkin beat McDavid. IKnowdlan Larkin's not in the game this year.
I know. I'm just saying.That's what I'm saying. That's why.
The only way you're gonna get theskills to be excited again is if
every team has the skills competition andhas it, does it for charity in

(11:05):
their talent and in the winner ofeach of them. They turn in their
times or their shot speeds or theirwhatever, and they pick the top six
in each category of the whole league, and you invite those six players.
Then you have a true skills competition. But if Ali Afrady doesn't go to
the hardest shot, twenty years ago, Ali A Freddy still had the hardest

(11:26):
shot. But if he's not there, he doesn't have the hardest shot,
right, Yeah, kind of silly. Actually, when the skills first came
out, they were a lot better. Because now the skills are these rinky
dink stupid stuff. I am interestedto see what happens this year. Lit
it's an interesting format. It's cool. We'll see for a million bucks,

(11:50):
it's a lot of money to someplayers. Back to the Kings, what's
going on with the Kings. Whythe slide? Well, I mean,
did you see Drew Dowdy's comments.I mean that was a little lie opening
is very Devontas esque. No,you want to know what it is?
Here's what Yeah, because someone withcredibility in the room said it. You

(12:11):
don't think he's got credible in thatroom? What m that's there, that's
one of their leaders or so theysay, Well, I mean he's he's
won three cups. I bet youif there's a player's poll, he's one
of the least like guys in theroom. If I don't know about that,

(12:31):
he's fun. I'm just like,I don't wanna. I don't want
to kick a guy while he's down. But I mean, the patterns are
repeating itself here with Peter. Wewanted out of Columbus. He wanted out
of Columbus, and when they wereactually decent there, he goes to Winnipeg.

(12:52):
He wants out of Winnipeg. NowWinnipeg get rid of him and they
take off, and now he goesto l a and and they're sputtering a
guy. I don't want to sayit's all his fault, but it's like
at some point there's there's a there'sa lot of factors. Uh, goal
hasn't Valvid hasn't been good, theirpower play hasn't been good. They're they're
not getting depth scoring. It's it'sliterally what the Oilers why they were losing?

(13:18):
It's the why are the Kings? You're losing right now? The memes
is bad, they're not getting saves, their stars aren't performing, and they're
losing at that when when the Oilerswere losing all those games, McDavid wasn't
playing well, Drysottle wasn't playing well. Uh, Hymen wasn't playing well.
Uh. They weren't getting any safefrom Skinner or Campbell. Their penalty kill

(13:39):
and power play were atrocious. Likeand now it's completely they physically just switched
spots. The one thing that wouldscare me the most on the Kings is
it I do not see a wayPierre Luke Debra changes because he won't change
his attitude. Oh, I mean, you're we're in you're one of eight
right now, and and this guy'sgot what eighteen points in games? You

(14:03):
think he's not gonna say trade mesoon? Huh Uh? At one point
Cats runs out of his lives. You made your bed. Now you sign
an eight year contract. The Montrealain't coming to save you, buddy.
I'm sorry, it's not I don'tthink they could trade him for two pucks
and no, it's I mean,I don't. I mean I think miss

(14:24):
are not missile. Winnipeg saw thewriting on the wall with him. Winnipeg
saw the writing on the wall andthey absolutely hammered it out of the park
with that trade. You got Billardie, you got a first round pick,
you got uh, you got AlexI follow, who's a good Middlesex guy.
Uh Like, come on, man, they hammered it out of the

(14:45):
park. You know what, there'sguys in this league though, they just
are never happy. They always thinkthe grass is greener and if the things
don't go, just as Johnny todraw off, the grass is greener on
the other side, you know,I want him. The other night and
people in Calgary brett and fuss aboutthe hubert Oo signing. Yeah, but

(15:11):
at least he looks like he's trying, because a lot of times I look
at well, he works ass off, he works off, not getting success,
but he's working his hell, hetried, he works his ass off.
Good Drow is out there a SundaySunday pickup game in Rochester. He
does he looks like he's just youknow, and you know, I understand
he's not small or that he's smalland he's not gonna go lay hit or

(15:31):
anything. But this little like flingsdrive by stick swing to get the puck
away just doesn't cut. Did yousee Patterson hammer him the other day day?
I planted him. I was like, holy shit, Well, I
don't know, I just I Iget frustrated watching players just try to well.

(15:52):
It's just like the are of him, the aura of him has just
changed. It's like, oh no, no, no, no, he
has has. He had a lotof moments in Calgary like that. Believe
me, no, no, butI'm saying though, I'm saying the aura
of like the aura of him is. It was like he was nine times
out of ten. That guy wasexciting to watch every single shift. He
did something every shift that you're like, Wow, Johnny Gudreau is one of

(16:17):
the best in the league. Ihaven't seen that in Columbus, like very
little. If the team was winning, you got that. If the team
was losing, you didn't get that. But I watched that. Yeah,
that's fair. But I'm just saying, though one of the most dynamic players

(16:37):
in the league, Johnny Gaudreaux, had the puck on his stick man,
that guy did some special things thatCagary, I just haven't really seen much
of it at all. Nope,no, I don't know. There hasn't
been any of it at all,to be honest with you, I mean
no, No, it's been it'sbeen a tough go and I'm really not

(16:57):
sure what chint right. Yeah,Okay, let's go back to the Oilers
here. Though they won sixteen ina row. Okay, and I'm not
trying to be a Debbie Downer here, but I saw a tweet the other
day. This is after they wonfourteen in a row. Are you ready
for this? They beat the seventhplace team, the ninth place team,

(17:19):
the thirteenth place team, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, twenty third, twenty
fourth, twenty sixth, twenty eighth, twenty ninth, thirty, thirty one,
and thirty two. So they're they'rethey're beating they're beating up a lot
of bad teams, and they're winninggames that they should win. I'm not
discrediting. I'm not discrediting the Oiler'ssixteen in a row is very impressive and

(17:40):
very hard to do in this leaguewhere there's a lot of parody. But
like the schedule's gonna get a lotharder, That's all I'm saying. And
we'll see if the adjustments they madeworks against the Vegas is the Vancouver's all
all those teams that are there topof the league right now, what I
see the difference defense, it's beena lot better, you know, no,

(18:03):
yeah, well yes as a whole. But I think my biggest thing
that will dictate how the remainder ofthe season goes is can the goaltending hold
up? Well, they can't playhim every night they played him, they
like they've played him fifteen of thelast sixteen or fourteen in the last sixteen
Skinners started. Well, he can'tkeep this pace up at all. I

(18:27):
mean there's a because it's unrealistic tosay the guy's got like a point nine
to five, say percentage of goalsagainst under two with three shoutouts in his
last fourteen starts, Like it's justvideo game like numbers. And I'm happy
for the guy because he was ina pretty dark place. His goals against
was three point five, his SApercentage was under nine hundred. Uh,

(18:48):
he wasn't. He was getting polledand he was getting yanked a lot of
starts, and we were like, this is this is their future here,
this is the guy right and andnow he's playing like a very elite goaltender.
And then when the Oilers weren't winning, they weren't getting saved them.
And you don't get saved in theNational Hockey League nowadays. You ain't winning
many games. That's a whole lotof that's the bottom line. So you're

(19:10):
general manager of them into others. Now you feel comfortable going into the playoffs
with Skinner, Pickard and Campbell.I think you have to because you don't
cut a choice. They don't gotcap. Yeah, good point. You
don't got to. There is nothere is no acquiring a Mark Andre Flurry
because they don't got cap or somebodylike that, or John Gibson. You
don't got no space. And ifyou do want to make a trade,

(19:32):
you have to trade cap off yourroster. And right now, who who
would you be comfortable trading that hascap that you can make a trade because
it's not Ryan Newson Hopkins's He's beengood well No, you can't because then
you're trading depth away. You know. That's what I'm saying, Like,
you don't. There's no moves thatthis team can make you. That's why
they have to bring in a guylike Corey Perry and I got a vet

(19:55):
minimum to do. Like that's they'renot gonna be able to do much.
The only maybe move they can makethem the back end, is trading Brett
Coolick, and I don't think theywant to do that. Oh they're not
trading Coolick. I don't think No. I mean, I you know,
I look at you can't do anythingwith Warren Fogel either, because he's been
really, really good. Yeah, they're pretty much locked. They're pretty much

(20:18):
stuck. Yeah that's a bad thingeither. I mean, I mean we
both picked him to go to stackup final with the roster they had coming
into camp, and then it didn'tlook too smart a couple of weeks ago.
No, so I still don't knowif we look smart, but we
look better than we did, right, Yeah, we'll see what happens.

(20:41):
I don't know. I think Ithink you need to be a little bit
more concerned though. If you arein uh, if you're in l A
I I I do. I think. I mean, you're falling fast.
I looked at the standings they aredown to they're the they're tied for the
last wild card. Yeah. Imean, if you would have told me,

(21:06):
if you would have told me twomonths ago that the Edmonton Oilers would
have passed the LA Kings and theyare nineteen points backways, you're absolutely insight.
I'm gonna say something. I'm gonnasay something. I still think LA
makes the playoffs and I think Edmontoncatches Vancouver. That's very very bold.
Yeah, but it's very realistic nowtoo. And dude, here's the bottom

(21:33):
lying here, Brad. Edmonton hasgone twenty three oh or sorry, pardon
me, twenty three three and ohyou want to guess how many points they've
getting in the Canucks probably like fivefive five points. The way Vancouver's playing
now is going to be very hardto catch them. But Vancouver is going

(21:56):
to have a struggle down the stretchto play at this pace any team,
I don't care how good you are, grind of the season's coming right now.
The ground, Look look all onLook with Vancouver. Look at the
dversity Vancouver's face. The last twogames down three to one against Saint Louis
Battle back, get a point downfour to one to Columbus Battle get an

(22:18):
overtime win like that. They haven'tfaced that much adversity and it's gonna it's
good to be in situation like that. I'm talking about injuries and different factors.
They're gonna be Yeah, I meanthey they Susi's been hurt. They're
gonna make moves though, Brad. They're gonna bring in the top six Ford.
They're gonna bring in a top sixFord for sure. So it'll be
interesting see what happens. I justall I'm saying is that, you know,

(22:38):
the Oilers have four games in handand they're probably not gonna get eight
points there. But if they gotsix, which is ahead of the pace
they've been on, that puts themto sixty five. That's six back.
You know, you got one morehead to head with Vancouver. Believe only
one more, right if they winmore end of the area. So if
they win that, that pulls themto four. I mean they're in reach.

(23:00):
They're not They're they're in reach notat all. Vancouver goes out at
East one more time. They doplay a lot of Vegas in l A's
down the stretch in Colorado one moretime, and so they're the schedule is
gonna get harder. But I meanthe way they're playing, I mean they're
they're they're only going to improve theirteam, right, So we'll see it

(23:22):
happens. I don't think Edmonton orVancouver can improve much more. Vancouver needs
a top six for it big time. Well, they know that. There's
no ah they need a top sixguy. I don't know what are they
gonna give to get up, though, they're gonna they're gonna get Lindholme.
I think I think they're gonna getlind Holme. Are they gonna afford that

(23:47):
the first round pick? Did youhear that Chicago wants cuz Manco for picks?
Did you hear that today? They'rethey're they want CU's Manco. So
you trade cuz Manco's five point fivefor pick and use that open up cast
base to go get lind Holme. It's gonna be a first at your Ratu
or prad Coals and and uh it'sgonna I bet you. It's the horror

(24:08):
trade. It's the horror trate thatis the comparable. It's the horror at
trade. Let me, it's aroster player and it's a B level prospect.
That's what it is. So you're, oh, that's fine, but
you're gonna give a first for lindHolme. But then what are you going
to give for them to take KU'sManco. You know how many draft picks
are you gonna trade away? Oh, they're gonna get draft picks for us
Maco. You're gonna get a fourthround pick for him or third give up

(24:30):
something more than just because well, okay, maybe maybe you trade. Maybe
you trade CU's Maco and uh aprospect to sea level prospect Billiate for nothing
they give up as a fourth roundpick to take Pavilier is a better player
than cuz Manco. He's he isa stop. It's make what thirty nine

(24:52):
goals seventy six points last year? What are you talking about? I don't
know a lot of teams would signup to trade for attitude problems, though,
I I think he's out a positiveactude. He hasn't bitched and co
played once. Well, he getswork ethics sucks. He wouldn't be getting
sad if he's work ethic. Imean, he just doesn't a lot of
Russians don't play defense. How isAlexevechk In the first ten years of his

(25:14):
career until he got Barry Trodz asa coach, how much defense did he
play? They Russians don't want toplay defense. It's all offense. Well,
I know, but I don't wantto player on my team that doesn't
want to play defense. Yeah,I'm I'm just saying. I think they're
gonna have to give up a littlebit more to get rid of that salary.
I know that sounds great for Vancouverfans. I just I think there's
a little bit more that's gonna beto that deal. We'll see, We'll

(25:38):
see, we will see. Uh. Check out our sponsor, stick bandits
is. They have all kinds ofhelmet stickers, stickers for your sticks with
your names on it. Get himyour look like an NHL player, skate
stickers, water bottles, big tags. They got it all at stick bandits
dot com. All right, it'stime to go around the league. Lots

(26:06):
of talk about here some different things. Utah expansion. This one caught me
kind of off guard because I don'tthink this league should be expanding at all.
I've heard rumblings of Utah for quitesome time. The ownership group of
the Utah Jazz A Smith Entertainment Grouphas been talking about it. Surprise me.
I don't know that that's the verybest place to go, but it

(26:26):
sounds a hell of a lot betterthan Atlanta. I guess yeah, I
Saalt Lake City. I mean it'sthey're at thirty two teams. It's got
to be a relocation. And theonly it's not going to be a relocation
they want the league wants the money. He want the money, and then
you got to get two teams inand make it sixteen and sixteen or seventeen

(26:48):
and seventeen. We went a lotof years with an odd number. Who
went a lot of lot of yearsin this league with an odd number?
No, we didn't, Yess wedid. We had thirty before thirty.
We had twenty seven. We hadtwenty six, we had twenty four.
That's all. We even numbers. That's not all. We had twenty seven

(27:11):
for quite some time, okay, but they went to thirty. Then they
went to thirty one, and thenSeattle came in. We were four years
later. We were at thirty onefor quite some time, seven for quite
some time. So don't tell methey can't do it, because they did
do it, just in recent history. We did it. You think it

(27:34):
works in Salt Lake City, Idon't know. I don't think it works
in Seattle. I don't think meanit doesn't work in Seattle or year two?
Okay they two years? Oh comeon, Brad, you serious?
Yes, I'm serious. It workedfor two years everywhere. You're just trying

(27:57):
to pick an argument here, likethat's that's what what's the difference? Why
is Seattle a great hockey market? Is a good sports market in general?
They loved they love the stop wheredid they go? They that's thirty years
ago. So Brad, it's agood's a good fan support. There's good

(28:19):
fans support. Okay, for twoyears, we'll see. We'll see you
in year twelve. Okay, theywhen the team goes through a stage where
they suck, we'll see how greatit is. Okay. You can say
about any team you can. Sothe Canucks have a bad, bad fan
base because they sucked for the lastten years. Stop no, because if

(28:40):
people still went in Vancouver, right, So you're telling me that Seattle's just
got bad fans and they're not gonnashow up if they're bad, Brad,
Hey, it's I'm telling you it'sa fringe hockey market. Look at the
Dallas Stars when they struggled, Theirfans were got awful and nobody was there
on a hockey state. You thinkSeattle, Washington's a hard more than Texas.

(29:03):
Yeah, okay, not much.Okay, that's not gonna happen in
Vegas because it's the biggest tourist capitalof the world. Yeah for sure,
Right, what happens in Florida? When Florida sucks, nobody goes what happens?
But what about the argument for Tampa? They sell it every game because

(29:23):
Tampa has been freaking good for eightypercent of their time. Okay, but
I'm saying they sell out every singleWell, they don't sell it every single
game. Look at the numbers thisyear. They're not selling out every single
game. Okay, I'll go lookafter this pot. Yeah, that's that's
an insane comment by you. Thisis it's not You just said they're not

(29:44):
gonna workprove. What do you predictyou what are you predicting the future?
Now? Just said it's unproven. So are you predicting the future? You
just told me you basically just toldme that Seattle's got a bad fan base
and it's when it gets tired they'regonna I said, I need to see
what they are when they when they'renot in year two. Everybody loves their

(30:07):
girlfriend for the first two months, right are you? Are you? This
is year three by the way,Okay, well year three and they were
bad. That they were bad inthe first year, and they still show
it up the second. I wouldhope that they would show up for your
first year of existence. I thinkyou would get a free card that year,
right, Okay, year after thatthey were good. Now there there's

(30:30):
still there's still a decent team.Yeah, and so the fans are still
there and will be. Okay, they had the same team as the first
year, and they exceeded expectations.Blake, It happens in a lot of
markets, man, I'm just sayingthat I still to this day questioned Columbus.
I still questioned Seattle. I questionedArizona every day, and I'm right

(30:55):
as if they leave, they're goingback. I mean, I question in
Nashville and I was probably wrong. And I think one of the things that
plays a major factor there, it'sthe number of tourists all of the US.
The only team there than that's nottrue inside Nashville, they're the only
team. The Tennessee Titans are notthere. They don't play there. The

(31:15):
hell they don't. They play amile away from Bridgestone Arena. Right,
there's a lot. There's two teamsthat. There's no baseball there, there's
no NBA there. And they gotone team to compete with. Same with
Seattle. Seattle like you got yougot three teams comes heating, you're not
competing. Do you think do youthink that an NHL team competes? Do

(31:41):
you think the Minnesota Twins and theMinnesota Wild compete for fans? Are you
kidding me? I'm just saying thatthere's there's no there's nothing else to do
in Nashville, Blake, I hateto break it to you now. In
NHL games or any other sport,it's not families going to games. It's
it's all corporate driven. Say it, wise, man, no ship the

(32:01):
expanse it's expensive. It's it's we'vetalked about this l t I l t
I R. Ryan Reeves comes outand says he's healthy, ready to go,
but yet he's still on L TI r a coincidence that after he
said that he was back in thelineup. Nope, I don't know,

(32:24):
man, mhm. I like theleague's got to do something about this.
There needs to be a rule,There needs to be something. Teams are
just telling doctors what to say.I think I hate saying because I mean,
did you did you see what cameout in the NFL yesterday? Oh,
Tony the wide receiver said like youwent on Instagram basically said that's bullshit.

(32:49):
I'm not hurt. They're saying I'mhurt, and it's a different injury
every week and unhealthy, and it'slike interesting. Yeah, I don't know.
I mean, I don't. Ihate to throw doctors under the bus
and I hate to throw general managersunder the bus. But I do think
there's some salary games going on inthe National Hockey League, and I agree,

(33:09):
I think I think it needs tobe addressed for sure. YEP.
I agree. Cory Perry signs inEdmonton, and I think that's a great
signing for them. But what Idon't understand is if he's not following life's
moral issues well enough to play inChicago, he is okay to be in

(33:29):
Edmonton. Where are you trying toget at here? I don't know.
I don't know. Like he gotcleared by Gary Bettman, he went to
rehab, he went to therapy, like, he did all the steps that
he needed to do to go backin the league. Okay, so why
is he not playing in Chicago wherehe has a contract. They terminated his
contract and they he went and gothelp, and now he's what. We

(33:53):
don't know what he went. Idon't know what he went to therapy for
counseling. I don't know what. You call him up and ask him,
man, I don't know. Ijust I just want to know why people
were outraged that he was gonna stayif he was if he was to stay
in Chicago, people were outraged. But Edmonton can sign Patrick or not Patrick
vander Kine when he was in trouble, and then they can find or signed

(34:15):
Corey Perry when he's in trouble, and it's all okay, Well, vander
Kane got cleared of all that stuffthat his ex wife said about him.
He's got full costumes that no,no, no, no no no,
that's a bad example. I'm talkingabout the gambling issues. I'm not talking
about his ex wife, who's anut job. I'm talking about the gambling
issues. Okay, okay, surethat's fair. But I'm just saying,

(34:37):
what are you saying? You don'tthink people can change? Is that what
you're saying? You don't think peopleshould get second chances? All right?
So when's uh? When's Calgary's coachcoming back? Peters? Yeah, he
saidn't he got a job in leftBridge. I know Whin's he back in

(34:58):
the NHL? When's j I don'tknow, I do, I don't know.
He's got to get cleared by theleague. I don't know. Ask
any questions. I have no answersto Owen Tippett signs an eight year extension
worth forty nine point six million dollars. That is a six point two uh.
At first, I kind of thoughtmaybe that was a little high for

(35:20):
what we've seen of Owen Tippett.I don't know. Owen Tippet's coming into
his own right now. I agree. I think he's a great coming into
his own and he's I think.I think as a it's a huge,
huge mistake on on Floater's part forgetting rid of for a rental carouse Drew
only played two playoff routes. Idon't know, it's a it's a really

(35:45):
good, really good move. I'malways on the side of lock your young
players up as long as you can. I've been on record saying that a
long lot of times. Yeah,it's a it's I think it's a win
win for both sides. Zach Preezyback for his nineteen seasonn't as he signs
with the Colorado Avalanche. I reallythink that this will help Colorado. Yeah.
No, this is uh a goodpickup. I mean, it's a

(36:07):
guy that's been a performer in theplayoffs in his career. He's a good
depth piece, doesn't cost anything. It's basically like signing Corey Perry and Edmonton.
You're shining a guy that has areally good track record, a really
good career resume. Yeah, he'sbeen he's been a good his old career

(36:28):
and he's a good good pick up. Some flying elbows this week as Gallagher,
Truba and Myers get into trouble forelbows. The Gallagher one that was
brutal is he That one was apredatory elbow if I've ever seen one,

(36:50):
as he went right after the IslandersAdam Pellock and that gets him five games,
which I thought was probably adequate, don't you think. Yeah, I
mean it's it's just so what acharacter for a guy like Gallagher to do
something like that. He has himin suspended once in his career. He
does play that fine line, andhe does walk that line a lot.

(37:14):
He plays the game hard. He'sphysical, but he's not he's he's I
wouldn't say he's a dirty player. He's not like a Brad Marshaan that just
crosses the line constantly or a TomWilson. He crossing the line constantly.
He's a pest and he gets underthe player's skin. And that's just the
game he plays. He's an agitator. He's good at what he does.
But yeah, it was so ata character and such a dirty hit.

(37:37):
I was honestly surprised that he didn'tget an in person hearing, which but
would have been more than five gamesif they suspended him. But I think
they went with five because he didn'thave any discipline in the in the in
the past, and I think fivegames is okay. Jacob Truba gets two
games for an elbow and I watchedthis one and it was pretty dirty.

(38:00):
It was pretty dirty. I don'tknow. He knew what he was doing,
dude, he knew what he wasdoing. He was pretty on this
one. I don't know on thisone. He went like this and give
him a little chick wing, andhe knew what he was doing for sure.
He let's let's be honest. Sowell, then that would be like

(38:22):
getting in his head. And thenso that would be like me saying,
well, Myers knew what he wasdoing. Myers is was just reckless.
He just went in there like aball in a china shop and just started
swinging his arms. I mean,I thought I thought Myers was a two
minute penalty. Here's the thing,Okay, can we I'm gonna go on.

(38:42):
I'm gonna go on a little rat. I'm gonna go on a little
rat here. I'm gonna go ona little rat here, because let's get
the whole story on this. Okay, did you did you watch that?
What happened? Yes? Okay,So let me just explain this to the
listeners here. Okay, So IanCole hits a guy from behind, they
call a penalty on Ian Cole. They they say Ian Cole has been assessed

(39:05):
a five minute major for boarding andthe players under review, which is which
is we like that rule to getit right. Okay, So they're reviewing
this, they're taking a long time. I'm like, okay, like,
what's the deal here, Like, what's going on? It's either a five
or it's two for boarding okay andall on a sudden, or it's nothing,
or they just rescind it all right. Those are the three options.

(39:29):
You either keep it a two minutepenalty, you assess a five minute major,
or you rescind the penley. Sowhat do they do? They just
say, Actually, we're not gonnacall appenally Ian Cole here. We're gonna
assess Tyler Myers a five in agame for something that we miss and it
is not in the rule book. That is not in the rule book.

(39:50):
You cannot you cannot call a penleyreview it and then just call a whole
other penley in itself. I I'venever seen Freeman so speechless on Hockey nine
and Canny he didn't even know he'dnever seen that before, and I was
just like, I'm looking up therule Buck, and I'm like, there
is nowhere in here that it saysthis, like it's in say like I've
never ever seen that in the Leagle. I've been watch talk for a long

(40:14):
time. I haven't seen that onetime. Like, I agree, I
thought they completely just white to toPelly. They were calling and we're like,
ah, yeah, this Myers hitwas pretty dirty. We're gonna give
him a final instand. It's like, what are we doing here? You
can't do that against the rules. If if it would have been me doing

(40:35):
the whole thing, it'd have beentwo minutes for boarding non coal. The
fact that they could call Pelly thatthey like they missed it and they're like,
we missed how we better call outa five. It's like, I
don't know, man. And RickTalckett's reactions said at all. He's like,
are you kidding me? Like youcan't do that? And I don't
know, man, that's my tedtalk for the pod, But yeah,

(40:57):
I don't know. I was completelyagree. I completely agree. I just
think that I thank god it wasin a non super important game. Well,
I mean that game, the Vancouveris down three to one, they
battle back to tie in and thenthey give the Columbus a five minute penley.
It's like, what is going onhere? Well? I know,
but I mean at lasta didn't endthat. No, they killed it off

(41:19):
thankfully, but like it's like geezman, like, what is going on
here? All right? Time fora very interesting edition of three Questions.
It's time for three Questions. Changeit up a little bit this week.

(41:40):
It's three Questions with a little bitof a twist. There's somewhat trivia,
but not really trivia either. Primarylogos. You need to think of the
National Hockey League team's primary logos,so if you want, you can pull
them up in front to you.I don't care. Okay, how many

(42:02):
NHL logos have a hockey stick inthem? Quickly? Just try to guess
Kings, Sharks, Pittsburgh, Uh, Arizona as I got him? Miss
h two? Oh Caps? Uh? There's one more? Yep, I

(42:38):
don't know. Oh Islanders? Justright? Where do you? Where do
you see a stick in the Kingsone? I'm thinking of their old logo
they have the two sticks. No, it's not right now, they don't
have one anymore. So they havefive. There's five of them. They
did good there? Number two.How many NHL logos have an animal in

(43:04):
them? Minnesota, Coyotes, Buffaloa Vancouver, would you call Florida?
Uh? Would you call the likethe red wings? So one or no?

(43:32):
It's a wing of something. It'sa wing though, it's a wing
of something, a part of ananimal. It's not an animal though.
I think I got them all.Oh you missed two. Oh Nashville,
Nashville and Pittsburgh. Oh yeah, penguin. Yeah, that's not bad though.
Question number three, how many NHLlogos have never changed their primary?

(43:59):
Winnipeg, Vegas, Seattle, Uh, Carolina, New Jersey, A New
Jersey's changed? They have? Ohthey have yet? Rangers, Rangers haven't
changed. Changers have changed quite afew times. If they have, Yep,
they've changed quite a few times.Yep, even in my lifetime,

(44:21):
even my Philly Atle's one. Yep. Ye. Boston, No, Boston's
changed. They have the primary. The primary has actually I know I thought
it was them too. But Nashville, Nashville hasn't changed. Nashville has not
changed. Well, yes, theyhave actually a little bit slight modification that
much. Slate capitals Nope, capitalshave changed. Yeah. Uh, Chicago,

(44:49):
Chicago hasn't changed. They've changed. They actually have changed. Really,
yep. The Indian had used tobe different. Yes, I I thought
too, a long time ago.Colorado the Blues. Yep, they've changed
Colorado and Detroit. M It's notbad. It's not bad, not bad,
all right? Listener, question MitchellLancaster, Phoenix, Arizona. Does

(45:10):
Canada have a goaltender talent issue? We talked about this three weeks ago.
Man, they there. There needsto be a documentary done on what happened
to Canadian goaltending development. Who SoI'm gonna add part two into this.
Who do you think right now isthe best goalie from Canada? Who would

(45:34):
start tomorrow? And the best?Mark Andre Fleury at thirty eight? I
Steart Skinner might start tomorrow. YourSkinner. Uh, it's a bad list
right now. The top five Canadiangoaltenders in NHL right now? I would
go Mark Andre Flurry, I wouldgo Tristan Jarry, Jordan Bennington, h

(46:00):
Stuart Skinner. Who Darcy Kemper DarcyKemper And like man, we went from
long, we went from the WongoBroder carry Price to this. It's like,
oh, so so let's get back, Let's get back to Mitchell's question.
Why do you think that is?Ah, it's the very hard it's

(46:22):
a very hard question to answer, because it's just puzzling, like it's just
reading an article. Then and DaveKing, you asked, has developed a
lot of goaltenders. Finland has developeda lot of goaltenders. Sweden has developed
a lot of goaltenders. And it'sjust like everybody's caught Canada and with goaltenders,
you want to know what, youknow what? Dave King said,
he's a coach for Hockey Canada. He said that he thinks a part of

(46:44):
the problem in Canada is over coaching. They they make them so robotic and
so that that they're the shooters canread their tendencies because they've been structured to
mauver certain ways so much, andthey've coached him so hard to be well,

(47:06):
everybody, every goaltender is pretty,is pretty. It's a cookie cutter
position now, and everybody's in thereverse VH now and everybody's down when they're
blow the goal line, and andit's just that's just the way the style
is everybody. It's the position's verycookie cutter, and that's just the way
it's been for the last ten years, last five to ten years. It's

(47:29):
like it's a it's a copycat positionright now. The days of the Jonathan
Quick, Dominic Thomas, all thosewere everybody's everybody is the same, very
very different. All right, thisweek is NHL All Star Week, and
I take a break from hockey thisweekend and do other things like I don't

(47:52):
even know, probably just watch likereruns of American Pickers or something like that.
I'm not watching hockey next week, and then you know what, you
throw into the CB a break andit becomes a very very flus breaking weeks
of age. We are about. Are we doing a podcast next week or
not? Absolutely, we're doing ashow next week next Monday night. We
record for te. So he's justgonna make up winners who on each event?

(48:15):
Well, probably the should I should? Should I do it? Trivia?
Should I do? You're not gonnawatch it? Show I do?
We should make you do a triviathink who who do you think won the
start? Fits? I don't nocheating, no cheating either. Oh I
won't cheat. That'd be great.I'll give you year five to choose from,

(48:35):
and you've got a guess who wonthe event. I'll have all the
answers I can do that. Wewill do that, but we'll find something
fun. We'll what I guarantee youstuff. We're gonna have our trade.
Calgary is gonna make a trade.Hey, is there is there? Is
there a trees? Nobody also readto no freeze from more Homer at dude,

(48:59):
he got traded All Star and crossball? Well, yeah, that's right.
Were the Islander jersey in the AllStar Game? That's right? I
forgot about that, all right.Hockey fans enjoyed this week's hockey action,
and we're back and next week witha I could be Christine interesting episode.
