Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, camplining here with my good friend Matt Sloan or
Graph of Oochemists.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Big summer here, Matt.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
That's right, Jack. We got the summer savings going on
right now at Graph, Nissan and Graft Chevy of Okamists.
Great deals. We're offering zero percent financing and select vehicles
up to sixty months if you're a Casto member. We
got extra rebates for that. We're getting fresh inventory every day.
It's been a great summer. We got great deals for
you zero percent.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Can't get much flower than that.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
That's exactly right, Papacy Matt in the gang here on
West Grand River, Okamiz, they're making breads.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
What do you think of Saturday?

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Saturday?

Speaker 5 (00:34):
Man?

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Uh, you know, offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 6 (00:36):
You know, we kind of struggled a little bit in
the first half, but you know, we kept the energy up,
kept the intensity up on the sideline, and you know
that pretty much showed throughout the rest of the scrimmage.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
You feel different now you're old man, you're eighteen.

Speaker 6 (00:48):
Nah, not too much different, man, but I definitely feel
like things are slowing down for me.

Speaker 7 (00:52):
What did you learn about sort of handling the pressure
of last season when it came to the teams focusing
on you sort of rising up from beho being unexpected
to take on that.

Speaker 6 (01:00):
I mean, you know, just taking uh the role of
you know, uh being a decoy sometimes and you know,
just helping out the offense the best way I can,
you know, to win games. You know, if I gotta
go clear it out, you know, for somebody else to
get open, or if I gotta go, you know, get
somebody else open.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
You know that's my job.

Speaker 6 (01:15):
And you know, as a receiver, you know, we we
not selfish like that, so.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Try to get people open.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
They put a such about this receiver group as a whole.

Speaker 6 (01:22):
Who you look at it, man, It's it's really close
to cause, like we got guys that can move around
you know x h Z. You know we got we
can put anybody anywhere in our receiver room.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Man. You know, we just got so much versatility. It's
it's it's insane.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
You feel like you guys can be the type of unit.
It's like we can week out can be a problem forty.

Speaker 6 (01:37):
Yeah, most definitely, yeah, cause you know we can we
get throwing a couple combos, different different type of lineups,
and you know, I'm excited for this year?

Speaker 4 (01:45):
When did you get to play book before you got here?
At at how much.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Time do you f did you spend m going into
last year with it? And how much more time do
you spend.

Speaker 6 (01:54):
Cause so I would say, you know, my freshman year,
you know, just being a freshman, I was in the
playbook as much as I can, and then we had
a few tweaks. You know, this year changed a little
bit of stuff up, so you know, I'm I'm in
it just like last year. You know, gotta study just
knowing different positions and their drives and duties and just
trying to figure out, you know, how can I you know,
maximize you know, my potential on the offense.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
What's more important for a receiver knowing all the trees
and everything that come with that playbook or the physical
side of it.

Speaker 6 (02:23):
I would say a little bit of both, but most
definitely you wanna uh it's really just the the coverages
you wanna You know, you probably run the same play
against a few different coverages, so you know you'll probably
have like a dig route and you gotta run outside
the corner cover too. You know, got different coverages and
different ways around route, So it's really just just you know,
perfecting routes, you know, running them off different coverages and

(02:44):
you know, just getting looks for that. I was hating
different this year, Uh, he stepped up man, big time.
You know, he's leading the offense even more than he
did last year, a little more vocal. You know, the
energy is still felt and you know you can just
you can feel that he he.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
He means business and you know he's been he's been
showing that all camp.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
You see a new maturity.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, most definitely.

Speaker 6 (03:02):
You know, you know it's still you know how how
he he's here and there, but you know he keeps it,
keeps it pretty simple.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Seems like a lessio spelt a lot of trust from
everything we've heard. What what do you notice ing from him?

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Man?

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Last you know, uh last year, you know, uh, just
watching him practice and see how much he wanted it,
you know, coming out this far camp, I I think
he he really you know, put hisself out there. You know,
I I've seen a bit of that last year, but
this year he's definitely shown it.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
You had a chance to be a lot of places
right now. Why are you here?

Speaker 4 (03:28):
Uh? Man, it's a it's home.

Speaker 6 (03:30):
You know I could have been anywhere else, but I
don't think it would have planned out like this.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
You know, I was just having a.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
Conversation with a few other guys getting recruited by you know,
a few other schools, and I may be overlooked or underrated,
but you know, I think that was God giving me
the you know, the signal to to come home.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
And you know, I'm grateful for that.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
What's the uh I, I guess the the emotions, yah
to to pick the place you wanna be at and
feel like.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
It's it's clacked. I mean it, it's a lot.

Speaker 6 (03:57):
You know, I got so much support here, so much family,
you know, my teammates, you know, we're just getting closer
and closer day out, and you know it's a it's
a lot of emotion behind that.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
You know, it just makes.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
You you take take a step back and look at
things differently, and you know, just be happy to be
here and be blessed what.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
You seen with Braylan and you being in the shoes
a year ago. Have you can't guy in him?

Speaker 6 (04:18):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm not gonna like Braylan. He he's
a dog, you know, young dog, and uh you know,
he has a few mistakes here and there, but you
know I'm there to back 'em up to make sure,
you know, he can maximize his potential, you know, knowing
the playbook, knowing you know how to run routes against
different coverages, and you know he's picking up pretty fast.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
So you know, pretty proud of that guy right now.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
How do you should there are times do with your
decor and your okay with that? How much do you
dream of beating.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
The shut up?

Speaker 4 (04:41):
You should have saw like some baby tips on guard
set men.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
You know, I it's it's it's a dream every night,
you know, I would dream about the season the first game.
You know, that's been on my mind all all year
and you know it's the moment.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Is actually coming pretty soon.

Speaker 6 (04:54):
So you know, Uh, my my thing is, you know,
just do whatever I can do to make the team
better and th we definitely try to get that this season.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
What do you tell the new guys about Spark football?

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Uh, it's a dog fight. It's a dog fight. You know.
Recently we just talked about what a spartan is.

Speaker 6 (05:10):
And you know, the more commedy we are, you know,
the more connected we are, and you know, as far
as true true power, come from the man next to 'em.
So you know, we been preaching on that, and you know,
I think the guys are finally starting to click. And
you know once we start doing that, you see the
energy is different. You know, we're starting to execute more
and things are starting to click for us.

Speaker 7 (05:29):
When Roddy at who's thats about, who's the best blocker
in the wide receiver room was?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
He said it was you?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And it's an energy thing. Uh do you take part
in that? I?

Speaker 4 (05:37):
I definitely do. You know, not just catching the ball
helps the team out.

Speaker 6 (05:40):
You know, we got a lot of run game stuff,
and you know that one block can be a big
difference to the run game, you know, just going to
get the safety or you know, taking a corner out
to play.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
And you know we preach on that.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
We are run a heavy football team, and you know
I I love to do nothing else but help the
team out as much as I can.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
I knows you a uh better than you were and.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
A half ago.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
But what did you first feel like a spurt?

Speaker 1 (06:01):
What's your curning point?

Speaker 6 (06:02):
Was there time uh twenty twenty one? Uh against the
school down the road? You know that that kind of
made my decision there, you know, uh, just just being
here at that game, seeing Kenneth go for five and
just seeing the energy Chuck interception at the end, you know,
and then I just realized how lit the city was,
and you know how uplifting there was after the game,

(06:22):
and I was like, man, this is the place I
can be, and you know, I just uh coming here.
You know, I seen a little bit of drought as
you know that twenty twenty one team started to disperse,
and I wanted to come back to East.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Landson and and be that uplifting again. Is that they Yes,
most definitely. How do you get it back to that
energy level? Not inside the program but outside the program?

Speaker 6 (06:43):
I mean, you gotta be some type of trust. You know,
they they trusting us to do our job inside of here.
You know, they're supporting us on the outside. So you know,
just keep that in the back of our heads, you know,
and that you know, I got a lot of people
depending on us to be great this year.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
So you know, we just doing everything and we can
to be great inside here, so we can you know,
show it on the field.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
That part to s where of I guess for that
to materialize, like for for you to realize that, cause
it seemed like at times like gaming last year, where
would maybe be frustrated with some of the outside noise something.
Oh yeah, Like when does that sort of set in
for you guys that it's like you gotta do what
you can do.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
I mean, I I would really say, I practice.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
You know, we go against the defense and sometimes it's
it's looking pretty rough. But we know at the end
of the day, you know, if we can beat something
this hard, when we get in the game, it should
be easier.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
So you know, we we keep that in the back
of our heads every day.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
You know, we got defense scripted against us, you know,
and we got our back against the walls, and if
we can fight out of that, you know, we can
fight out of anything. And I'm pretty sure that's our
mindset throughout the whole season.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
What do you think of Marius taught you to make
that that you're kind of had at your again, O Mari,
cause he has he told you think he's a veteran guy.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
I think I'll called him savvy or something here that he's.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
He's just show you how to be a dog. You know.

Speaker 6 (07:48):
Uh, I'm a little bit on the s quieter side
and you know, not talking much, but you know, he
gives me chippy a little bit, gets me riled up.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
And you know I talk a little bit of a
mess to the defensive guy. So I would say that
part of it.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
You wanna return punts?

Speaker 6 (08:00):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I I thought about it. You know,
I got back there a little bit, you know, Courtney guy,
I'm catching some so you know I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
When you saw that Politanakov watch list, could you laugh?
Did you shake your head? Or did you say, yeah, I'll.

Speaker 6 (08:13):
Show you a little bit all three? Like, uh, you know,
my teammates are on there. You know, I'm proud of
them and happy for them. You know if if you know,
if they on the blatant Cooff Award, that probably takes
some pressure off of me during the season, you know,
but probably the other teams start eyeing those guys a
little bit more. But you know, I'm definitely definitely grateful
to you know, even be anywhere near it.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
So are you the best player ever to have two
teammates on that list?

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Yeah? I would say so.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
Yeah, what do you g Do you guys talk about
a more? Do you guys talk about what a run
game could do for you guys in the past game.
You know, that was an area last year that we've
we've heard a lot about trying to get improved. Yeah whatever,
you've seen a scrimmage just as something that you guys
are receivers look at and be like, hind if.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
We could get a play action or whatever going.

Speaker 6 (08:53):
You know, Uh, this this last scrimmage that just passed. Man,
we threw the ball quite and then when we came
to run game and the running backs and just running
their tails off and you know, uh Makai Frazier and
and Brandon Taylers was the one two punchs during the scrimming.
So you know, just just knowing that I came in
the class with those guys and see how much they
grind it to to actually be at that position. They're
doing what they're doing. Man, it's a it's a blessing

(09:14):
to see. And I think those guys gonna set it
off for us that at the scenario.

Speaker 7 (09:18):
But let's say there's someone who's never watched college football
game in their life with the US or something like that,
they're gonna watch you a football team the big a fan.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Of why should they pick.

Speaker 6 (09:26):
Machine State Cause we're the underdogs. You know, you always
wanna see the underdogs win.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
So I would say that, is there any guests particular
love lining up against UH defense? Uh? Defensively?

Speaker 6 (09:38):
I line up UH love lining up against Josh e
and uh Ab and Andrew Brinson.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
We got n J. Bird? Who else? And then the
young guy Aiden West. He's pretty It's pretty nice man.
It's gonna be real good.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
You're gonna be teaching the young receivers. What could your
mom teach their parents?

Speaker 6 (09:57):
Adversity? I think she could teach him adversity. You know,
some of the young guys may get to college, may
not get to play in time that they want, or
you know, may not see fit. But you know, as
long as you keep your head down, I would say
it's scenario for me. You know, first game of the
season last year, didn't touch the field too much, and
then you know, the next game broke some records.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
So you know, I would say adversity, it comes.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
To guy that gives you the most trouble of those dbs.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Uh, the guy that gives me the most trouble, let's see.
Oh wait, yeah, I let somebody out. Malcolm Bell, I'd say,
Malcolm Bell gives me the most trouble.
