Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jack Kablin here with my good friend Matt Sloan a
graph of chemists. Big summer here, Matt.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
That's right, Jack.
Speaker 3 (00:05):
We got the summer savings going on right now at
Graft Nissan and Graft Chevy of Okamists. Great deals. We're
offering zero percent financing and select vehicles up to sixty
months if you're a Casto member. We got extra rebates
for that. We're getting fresh inventory every day. It's been
a great summer. We got great deals for you.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Zero percent.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Can't get much lower than that.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Papacy, Matt in the gang here on West Grand River, Okamiz.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
They're making threads.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Well.
Speaker 5 (00:32):
We got back into the building yesterday and took a
d guive on things and really and talk a lot
about the halfway point. Let's face it, six games in
UH three three and then coming off a loss that
was not good enough obviously, and then you're lent on
the leadership is seam discussion to what we want to
(00:54):
say to look like moving forward, any potential issues we
might have, and it was it was great. A lot
ofccountability amongst the team responsibility coaches included.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I thought it was.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
A really healthy day and in regards to taking a
deep look and where so called black of the execution
at times, and some of the guys trying to do
too much winding and too much want to make a
play for the team type thing and get outside the responsibility,
and we got exposed multiple times. And through that, so
guys kind of owning up talking about it, tweeting a
(01:24):
little bit, how we do tech the video and offensively
they've watched it all as a unit, not just breaking
down into your individual positions.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I thought that was healthy in regards to like guys
taking accountability.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
I could did this Featherans on the line and seeing
the route run and vice versa.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
And then they went back to work but a little
bit shorter, but.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
Going back on the field and address and trying to
make some corrections that way, because we do we gotta
we gotta play better, and you know, think about us
as coaches. I sell at the start, so we gotta
get this team playing to their potential.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
And that was well short on Saturday, and so we
do a bid. The reason why that takes place, and
then think about considerations.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
It changes schematically, how you approach it, practice, personnel, the
whole thing. So I thought it was a really good
Sunday and we got to be able to transition because
we know what we're headed toward one of maybe the
best team, one of the best teams in the country,
playing really really good football at their place, that that'll
be a serious, serious challengehip.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
We got to get ourselves prepared for.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
And then it's opportunity to start the back half of
our season on the road. A it's a really good
team to continue to find ways to do it do
it better. Injury from you know, we have a few
guys throughout throughout the game. Not a huge amount of
updates here, but both or really all aid might have
seen this and July all of them. We'll kind of
see by the end of the week what those guys
kind of look like. Optimistic, but we'll find out at
(02:46):
the end of the week. And Kaile Martinez been Robert
Staleen Thompson obviously all three of those hits did not.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Go on Saturday. But I'll always tell you the longer,
longer term injury and all three.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Of those guys have a potential for this weekend and
we'll see by see by the end of the week
or questions, uh trying to find in the event that
it can't play, you hunt down to the league or
copping into the lecos is ready to test it any
interest I think unless he was started into the game
and it didn't show some good sides, uh where you
have confidence and one is his capabilities.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
It's preparation with that kind of thing. So yeah, and
then I you.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
Know, obviously it was a tough re mediates, like obviously
after what happened after the last game.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Now, whether there were OFFI fives things like that.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
But as a coaching as a person, when you see that,
I guess how do you handle that sort of.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Phys system as as a person.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Not to take a shot at you guys are a
line following kind of it. I we honest have definitely
uh oh it having a greater awareness than things are
out there, whether they're talking to me particularly or or
the things around the around the program.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
We do take some the deep pride and in our
approach and how we're going about it.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
We wanna be in a place out of place, great energy, passion,
compete at the highest level. Part of that, you know
you wanna do that comes with on the other side
of things, when it doesn't go right. So it's not
a big big surprise to me. I'll go back to
the confidence and really stead fast and the people in
that building again got U that we can write the
trick talk after the game and you want to get
(04:16):
the one is your dings yesterday about performs somewhere?
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Are you confident of passion and the fire once that
would you.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Shoot all in your mind?
Speaker 5 (04:26):
I I do think the execution and energy or hand
in hands, and so I do think there was a thing,
like I mentioned earlier, there was a a a good
amount of want to and almost too much to give
myself out of my responsibility to you give the example
like some of the you can want it as much
the one you fly around. If you're supposed to be
in a beap and you're not in the be gap,
that's not gonna help our energy.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
But it's another fifteen yard game. We had some of
that going on.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Think about kickoff return kicker for them hanging up there
pretty good, Well, I wanna go and.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Make a place on the returnd. This thing we got
to fake on the the twelve yard line, so we
had some of that go that did not help us.
Some of the inter energy cause execution goes goes hand
in hand.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
I will say, you know, off of our first two
road games in this conference, I didn't think there was
a deep response in this team that did not show
up on on.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Saturday, and that was, uh not good enough here. I
are well, it leads to a little bit of execution.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Like I'm saying, it leads to uh, the ability to say.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Within say within the scheme was a couple of things
stood them.
Speaker 7 (05:27):
Yeah, John had followed her up on it had the
body language at times Saturday it was struggling people who've
learned about that and jalen Berger after the games admissions
state didn't wanna play anymore.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Uh as a coach, how problematic is that? What do
you do then?
Speaker 5 (05:44):
I don't know if that'ssarily actor in yours are not
wanting to play, especially just speaking off of the conversations
we had yesterday in regards to leadership, standing up guys,
pointing and things out. Gaining body language is tough and
regards when it's going really side. We especially think about
late in that game. But we got an evalu way
to bounce back create some energy by some execution, and
that's why we talked a lot about.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
The back half of the symbol of what we got
got in front of us.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
You talked about yesterday's being a big day.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
What's the single biggest decision you pays right now to
the head coach?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Oh, it's decisions.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
I think a lot of you know, a lot of
things are really really important. And if it was just
down to call it one person, if it's it's that simple,
this one person that changed this there, it.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Could solve everything. I don't think that. I it's that simple.
That's reality, right.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
It's about the left guard, it's about the quarterback, it's
about our offensive staff, defensive staff.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
It's myself a lot of things.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
I think it's really important to going back to this
idea of stay together, finding ways to fix it, improve
on it, and get it the program the players to
be playing at their uh highest potential, Johnathan.
Speaker 8 (06:52):
As adults, we all have uh some type of pussions
to perform in our jobs.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Can you talk about them?
Speaker 4 (06:58):
It's such a public at expectation for the you for
the guys. Can talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Yeah, they did, you know, I think about yet call
it public and all that. That's why I I do
found some deep belief in it within the building, right,
those so that you surround yourself with.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
And that's not just particular to me.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
I think about our own players are dealing with it,
you know, uh, you know, being a public sport, what
they chose to do, and there's some beauty that comes
with with that, and there's some part times that come that.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
And then so when you come across the.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
University leaning into those that are supposed to do and
in those things.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
And that's why I like, are our building and the
people that are in the buildings.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Chanda to uh, how much different is the stands? Get right?
Speaker 9 (07:40):
Now as far as the pressure you stalk uh that
you mean now you go back to the when do
you like for shotting organ say, it's like year four
before winning record and there's it feels in the clock
it's just set up rapidly.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
Do you feel that change? And since you got a
negotiating especially if the indotia, you.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Know, and I feel like if you think that's some.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Reality, you know, the you know, there is some more
immediate gratification and needs to play in place. You think
about the investments getting made in in this environment up douse.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
And speaking to the group broadly in college athletics.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
I think there's some realities to you know, the pushing
and the one thing sooner when later.
Speaker 10 (08:15):
Coaching in a middle after the three ship losseses or
are you going to use the things from the season around.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Oh, I think it changes.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
You're always looking at schematically right best positions and in
things and tendencies you put out on the take. So
on the sigematics side, I think we're adjusted and adapting
each week.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Try to do it one.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
We're emphasize our traits and minimize, you know, not exposing
weaknesses those types of things. And it's hess and the
done when you know they got good coaches on the
other side, and good scenes and get players and all that.
I go back to, uh finding ways to look these
guys have played with their potential when they're gonna played
their potentials when they're playing with certainty, So removing some uncertainty,
(08:54):
whether that's over schematics, things like that, simple and UH
similar downs and things, whether uh off the mar not,
whether all especial teams of offense and decause trying.
Speaker 11 (09:05):
To mention about the meetings on Sunday when you guys
watched back the film particularly the the the the points
after the fourth downs up in the fourth quarter, Uh were.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Were it's set? You felt like you guys would quit?
What did you see on that tape? Uh from your guys?
Speaker 12 (09:24):
Uh, not necessarily just smass, but the kind of when
Jack said, h how they look when you how the
way they playing.
Speaker 13 (09:33):
In that period the game over it, you know, Yeah,
we watch every step of the called coaches copy right,
so we get a white copy goes type that looks
very similar to a football game where guys are gonna
try to do too.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Much or nothing.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Then the responsibility I think I mentioned it. Uh, Saturday night,
some one on ones were lost.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Uh, that really was out way, whether we're talking one
on one in the coverage, one.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
On one on the three technique to that that.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Repeated and then the inspe saying run defense did not
fit some of the the pole scheme very well. And
that took into the large creases.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
And so though those things, lack of Colline execute should
being in the spot winning the one on one that
showed him on the day.
Speaker 11 (10:14):
And Chapman the were you know too that no changes
in incident because your carents on want of your future
of cons at same moved on from the cheap stream
and obviously.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Or saved them, moved on from Trent Ry, someone you've
obviously worked with. Other than most your reactions of both.
Speaker 8 (10:27):
Of those pieces of news similar, Uh, this landscape where
it's at deep respect for both those those two guys
and and things with this landscape and you should situations that.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Are different, but I know I get deeper respect for
both games.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
That's generally if you're going back through like for who's
aid and a couple of years ago, people look like
who's really the sending? And that is not the case
if you've.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Been able to figure out and the sort of going
through the doing what's happened?
Speaker 4 (10:52):
How much it is the.
Speaker 11 (10:54):
Off the line protection or loss of confidence or where
where he is today and obviously he's he's banged up, Yeah,
at where he is to play in terms.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Of his confidence and then from where he was several
weeks ago, and how that's how that's friends right?
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Yeah, I think there's been a shot to his confidents
and he mentioned a little bit not this offensive line.
Speaker 14 (11:10):
And think about the ten other guys UH played, it's
playing at a high level, and think about it schematically too.
That's basically the opponents and the environments we have not
you know, stepped up to death.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
So yeah, whether it's confident's been the last.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Two weeks have looked different than to call it the
first three three four days.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
And our job to kind of get him back to
that place so that it.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
Again to go back to like this idea is simplifying
against schematically the offense and defense can't find ways to
keep it, keep it simple, so his talent can can
take over.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Oh about an earlier question, I know you don't about
a year and.
Speaker 7 (11:45):
Then and on social media to a lot o'clock as
you could imagine.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
A lot of your future, a lot of I A
question to.
Speaker 8 (11:53):
You is is it disappointing to you less than two
years and.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Eighteen games of the years young or that there's just.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
I again I I I don't even call it disappointment.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I do feel like I live in some realities of
of things. And so when you go, you.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
Know, we've t a couple of tough losses, whatnot, you
come in at all homecoming and you you get be
like that.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
I you know, I think it comes with the territory.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
And that's what we've signed up signed up for Uh,
they get calving it steadfast in our approach and the
people in the in the building and that's not like,
oham this this stubber. We're gonna dig our heels in.
We're not gonna tweak anything. We can strong but fluid
and and think about adjustments and finding different ways to
keep uh, these guys getting getting to their potential.
Speaker 6 (12:41):
When we talk about the sort of hard times, I
guess so through game losing, streaking, and how do you
feel right now? What is the sort of picture for
what things look like in the future, the what ab
good times that you can see in in the future.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Why is that bit?
Speaker 5 (12:52):
Well, it starts with the picture of the we're headed
towards the back half of our season right again, we're
talking about six hands in. We've got guaranteed six left
half time, halftime of adjustments.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
We wanna be a team that plays our best in
the four quarter bason best in the year. And so
we still got a lot of in front of us.
You know, yeah, are we disappointed?
Speaker 5 (13:08):
We gotta clean some things up a hundred percent, We
gotta get better the all of that that that is there.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
But we still got a lot of a lot of
football left.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Yea happen for a lumni who come back once a
year for homecoming, or maybe someone who's considering giving money
to the school and getting involved in the program.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
What would you tell them after Saturday and make them
think that they should be hollering?
Speaker 5 (13:38):
Well, if I think they tell them that they have
Saturday's I didn'tough. And we're very aware of a perva
point cause of the programs side.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
If there are things to to.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Fix, and again we're gonna continue to work to to
get better, to make me proud of the place in
the atmosphere, and we are working to get the same
to a better.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Spot of that's where where our mindset? Iss?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
See mm? Yeah? Where y you guys saw it again
last year? I've see what the general they play out team? Uh?
Where what do you see the differences in the program
here one the year two for them and a specific
a cornerback too. Where do you think about Mindoza? You
see some good ones. Where does he sort of fit
into to that?
Speaker 5 (14:15):
Yeah, he's playing at a really high level, quick for lease,
good decision maker, willing.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Uh to run the ball, I think.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
On the offense and they've got both scenes on the
gadiot right if they can throw it fiscal up the front,
a good receiver.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Play UH and that helps uh Minoza and he's competitive
get it to flip it.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
On the other side of these gause are going on
the defense South UH starts up the front physical.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
My actors can tackle and they play with the scheme,
and so they're a challenge on both sides. Do you
see some sort of big picture of growth and differences
to see her one years? I think stematically in some similarities.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
I think they got some similarities in their attributes of
UH how physical.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
They are, and then UH the quarterback play with some
balance on offenses.
Speaker 10 (14:53):
Similar In the last year, Jo and Jonathan, you mentioned
the there UH situation in which UH players on defense
we're trying to do too much of guys again and
so forth, when the players was themselves were over table.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Were there all some situations which players was themselves and
maybe didn't see enough effort? Did you where did that
come up at all? Where they were self critiques where guys.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
Were tally going I and there aren't much of that
I I in regards to like, oh, he should have
been running to the ball. We didn't know the guys
just sitting and shutting it down anything like like that.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
We had some guys that just cut guys loose.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Hey, we're playing man coverage and not covering our man.
And we had some of that that got called out, Uh,
pretty good. And then you know, some of the basic stuff.
I'm trying to do too much my eyes, I though
they've thrown into this guy.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
A couple of times, and we don't, you know, continue to.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
Our responsibility covering the back out of the backfield, and
some of that got called up.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
You mentioned about the the meeting, I was saying, We're emotions.
Speaker 12 (15:50):
Were guys her angry were what was their emotional response
both you can't immediate after and after we gave and
name God here yesterday to just d forward to what
hoighly wanna approach emotionally final six games?
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Yeah, I did.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
They think that's a lot of them, this thing, and
so to call it hurt and grave.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
But at the same time, where about the people around there?
And so the appro GPN goes into the we gotta foster.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
Right where the use I you know, take that energy
of disappointment, anger, restraine and get it communicated.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
But then we're gonna move forward. And how are we
gonna do that we go back to this back happening.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Back after the season.
Speaker 12 (16:39):
Almost Why do you mention if nobody's asked you about
the six game?
Speaker 4 (16:45):
Yeah? What about Indiana? What do they have done? Why
do you what do you make sure what they've done?
Or growing up a short time?
Speaker 5 (16:53):
Yeah, uh, it's been impressive to you know, it's just
at this season in regards to how competitive to backpack
road winds for 'em a tough places complete in regards
to the offense, can beat a defense, could beat a challenging.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
On punts look pressure punts, and so.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
They've done a really nice job of the one best
things in the country.
