(02:17):

a three point five point favor. That line has moved
a couple of different times in the direction of the Packers.
But two really, really good football teams will get your
Week two started in the world of pro football, obviously
one eye on the world of college football locally and nationally,
Utah will travel to Laramie take on the Wyoming Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
That game will kick off at six o'clock.

They'll see East Carolina next week in Utah State welcomes
in air Force. Air Force is getting four in the
hook up in Logan, so they're a slight favorite. Another
massive weekend ahead in the world of the Big Twelve.
Not a lot of great conference matchups, but this is
a conference that's under a microscope right now that you
just start playing better, certainly if you want to get
(03:23):
more than one team in the CFP, which already feels
kind of impossible. But we'll get to all the college
football storylines on the program today with a good guest list.
Utah Mammoth welcome in their rookies or camp out of
the new facility in Sandy. And I'll tell you what,
Ryan and Ashley Smith and the SEG group deserve a.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Lot of credit.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
That ground was broken thirteen months ago and it looks awesome.
Bill Armstrong, the Utah Mammoth GM will well, he actually
already addressed the media today. You can find some of
that sound up on the Mammoth website if you are
looking to get some more.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Infor about the hockey team this year.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I will do my best not to call them the
Utah Hockey Club, but you're gonna have to bear with me.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
So we talked about this yesterday.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Vegas released the odds for playoff berths in the world
of the NHL, and the Mammoth our favor to be
a playoff team this year. So it's gonna be another
long season for our local pro basketball team, year four
of what's been a very clunky.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
And underwhelming rebuild.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
So not a lot of buzz around the Jazz, but
you kind of feel the buzz around the Utah Mammoth
and really done a great job to kind of make
this team fill at home.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
So credit the ownership group for investing in that club.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
So we'll get to the latest storylines in that direction
on the program today.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
RSL is back at action.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Coming up on Saturday after a three week break, RSL
is back at it against Sporting Kansas City. We are

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Sam will stop by to talk a little football in
the program, move over to Kurt Schmidtz to talk a
little RSL. We'll get Kurt's take on the latest with RSL,
namely the announcement that Ralpha Cabral has been extended. And
then what has this three week break been like to
ingratiate some of the new pieces and players, namely Ron
Cruz and Victor Olatunji. More football with Max Chadwick today.
(05:31):

fun with everyone, and really you just want to make
memories with the whole family.
Speaker 1 (08:18):

been in an RV. I do not own one. I
have family.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Members that AREV folk.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
It seems just like a great way to see the
country and also have an intimate setting where you're with
each other.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Whether you like it or.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
Not, yeap. You know, of course there's pros and cons
with everything, but I think there's way more pros with
camping and getting able to travel and see the country
on the ground level for sure.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
For sure.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Now for folks that maybe can't make it out today,
but they're listening to the interview. Where can they go
get more information? Website, what have you before they come

Bisch's RV here at the Mountain America ex Post Center,
ninety five to seventy five State Street here and Sandy.
We're gonna go until nine o'clock tonight, open back up
tomorrow at ten am and go to ten pm. That's
both Friday and Saturday, and then on Sunday ten am
to four pm here the Mountain America Expost Center for
the utah V Super Show.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Twenty twenty five style.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
All right, let's dig into a couple of the storylines
for the weekend head and both pro and college football.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Week two of the NFL gets going tonight.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
It is the Washington Commanders and the Green Bay Packers
live at the hallowed ground of Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin,
where the Packers are getting three in the hook Jordan
Love and the Packers a three point five point favorite
over the Commanders. So your week two in pro football
gets going tonight. And don't forget, we are your home
of both college and pro football here in the market.
(10:01):
The biggest and best games here on ESPN seven hundred.
All right, University of Utah football program will be in
Laramie coming up this weekend for the Porter Larson Bowl,
And don't forget, kickoff will be at six o'clock at
our pregame coverage will begin for you on the station
at two, so four hours of pregame coverage with Porter
Trevor Riley, Zach Moss and the like. And then we'll
(10:23):
throw it over to Ryle's obviously Sly and Scott for
the kickoff live from Laramie.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
And you know, I've been thinking about this over the
past couple of days. Laramie obviously is a tricky place
to play for a.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Lot of schools. Wyoming actually beat Texas Tech Inton Laramie. Now,
this is that was a different Texas tech program. They
obviously have Cody Campbell's bank roll now, but also Texas
not too long ago went into Laramie and really had
to turn it on the second half to get the win.
I don't feel like this is going to be an
anxious day for you fans. You fans have had two
(10:57):
straight weekends of anxiety free watching. Of course, with what
Utah has done so far, Utah remains very healthy favorite
twenty two point five points at last check with the
betting line, and I do feel like this is going
to feel a lot like it has over the past
couple of weeks. I don't have a lot of anxiety
for this game. I don't think you should either, as
(11:19):
YOUTE fans. A couple of interesting things to watch for,
you know, Jaron comp Logan Fano held out of action
last week, so ultimately will we see some players held
out this week based off a game the most people
believe will be a bit of a blowout. Most teams
go up to Laramie and struggle with that elevation seven
thousand feet, so it's higher than where we're at.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
In Salt Lake.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
I don't perceive that to be an issue for Utah
based off of our geographic location, but shref Shah during
his sound availability this week actually pontificated on the difficulty
of the elevation in Laramie.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
So we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
But ultimately, I think Utah and it was interesting catching
up with Wyoming's play voice. He lauded the depth of
the program juxtaposed to maybe depths in past and prior
iterations of this team, and you're gonna need it when
it comes to the elevation and how that can take
it out of you. I think we all feel pretty
(12:15):
confident that Utah has the depth to handle both elevation
and difficult play, whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
So we'll see how long the starters have.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I mean, I am going to kind of color the
context of this game with my belief that Utah should
roll and that I don't think it's going to be
close based off of what we've seen so far. So
will we see the starters have to go the entire game?
Will we see bird Fickland in the second half? Can
we get Devin dan pieron ice to make sure he's
healthy prior to the startup conference play, which is what
(12:47):
we're all looking for anyway at this point, with both
Utah and BYU having pretty weak non conslates, and so
many teams quite frankly, and you know, I'm not going
to continue to beat a dead horse here, but way
too many teams in the landscape of college football have
had a really, really weak non conslate with not a
lot of challenges. As I continue to say, it's not
(13:09):
Utah's fault the UCLA stinks, it's not BYU's fault that
Stanford stinks. But that's the reality, and the problem in
complication with that dynamic is it makes it difficult to
really understand exactly who the team is. They've looked disciplined,
they've looked physical, They've looked like a Kyle Whittingham coach
football team. They've looked like a team that has put
the demons from a year ago behind them, as coach
(13:31):
Wit himself called it a debacle a season ago, and
most importantly, through two weeks, the health looks to be
relatively intact now. Coach Wit and Colonie are both the
same with this. We don't hear about injuries unless they're
season ending, and as I referenced, Jaron cump Utah starting center,
and Logan Fano, the rising star on the outside on
the defense.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Both were held out against Cayle Poly.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Which is something you would expect because nobody thought that
game would even cause Utah to break a sweat. What
does that look like coming up this week? You know,
are they electing to hold some other players out? Remember
during conference play, which we'll get going next game Texas
Tech Fox, Big newon Kickoff in Town, you are now
mandated to give injury reports both three days prior to
(14:12):
the game and ninety minutes to kick We'll Coach Wit
exercise some black magic and try to circumvent the mandate.
Chances are he will, but at least we'll have some
sort of an idea. We do not have depth charts.
That's one thing that Coach Wait has elected to do
to try to circumvent the mandate that the Big Twelve
laid down. I do imagine at some point in the
(14:32):
world of college football, you will be mandated to report
injuries for non con just like you are for conference games.
And we are moving closer and closer into some of
the uniformity that I've been complaining about on this show
for years. The SEC will add a ninth game coming
up next year, a ninth conference game, and they will
mandate that one of the three non con games that
(14:53):
their schools have to play will be against a quote
quality P four opponent. So Utah Football larem me Iyoming
taking on the Cowboys twenty two point five point favorite.
There's a couple of sports books that have at twenty
one point five, but at this point, the consensus seems
to be at about twenty three twenty three and a half.
That is according to both FanDuel and ESPN but and
(15:14):
ESPN bet. All right, we're live today at the Utah
RV Super Show out here at the Mountain America expos Center,
ninety five seventy five South State Street and Sandy.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Very easy to find. It's right off the.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Freeway, very close to America First Field where RSL calls home.
We're gonna go and tell nine o'clock tonight and then
Friday and Saturday's hours are ten am to ten pm.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Sunday, it's ten am to four pm.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Week two of Pro Football starts tonight with a little
Thursday Night football. And you're gonna hear that on our
radio station. When I say good Night. At six o'clock,
it'll be the Commanders and the Packers from lambeau Field.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Awesome week one. Hopefully Week two can live up to it.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
The Philadelphia Eagles, We're able to escape the Dallas Cowboys.
It'll be a Super Bowl rematch between the Eagles and
the Chiefs over the weekend. Our next guest has become
a good friend of the show. Let's talk more football
with our buddy, Sam bruck House on a Thursday afternoon. Sam,
Happy Thursday, buddy, how are we doing.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
We're doing good premo show tonight on tonight that is
Jane Daniels versus Join Love. I'm excited to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yes, sir.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Before we get there, let's talk Niners for a moment.
We've got a lot of Niner fans in the market.
I called the Steve Young effect, and I myself had
a forty nine Ers Steve Young jersey as a pup.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
But you know, ultimately, I don't.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Think anybody would debate the talent on the roster. I
don't think anybody would debate the the you know, the
the ability of the head coach or the front office
to construct teams.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
But they seem to be snake bitting Sam, don't they?
Speaker 4 (16:42):
So?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
George Kittle goes to the ir rock perty out two
to five, they lose Juwan Jennings. They're already without Brandon Ayuk.
I mean, it's obviously getting late early. What do you
make of where we find ourselves with the San Francisco
forty nine Ers.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
This was the crux of whether this team would have
a good year this year, this year, and the year prior.
Obviously it came around and bit them pretty bad last year,
but it's really gonna hurt with Brock Purdy going out.
I'm interested to see what Mac Jones looks like. Kyle
Shanahan typically has been able to be a quarterback agnostic
head coach. I think the sparkle of this team that
(17:18):
wasn't there last year was that the defense performed pretty
well against the Seahawks, and Robert Sloss seems to have
brought back a little bit of shine to Nick Bosa,
Fred Warner and crew. But man, you can't get more unlucky,
and I think this really pulls the forty nine ers
down a peg, particularly in what is shaping up to
be a pretty competitive NFC West.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
All right, let's stick to the theme of a week
ago before we move over to what we could potentially
see coming up.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Starting tonight with a great slate.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
You know, ultimately, I still feel and I think everybody
would agree, the Ravens are awesome and it feels like
this could be their year. I get the Lamar stuff
in the playoffs, We've all seen it, and you know,
they may have just lost to that dude because Josh
Allen is the MVP, and I don't know if there's
anybody in the league at regardless of position, that's better
(18:09):
at what they do than Josh Allen. But what was
What were your takeaways watching that Sunday night thriller in
Western New York last week?
Speaker 4 (18:16):
It felt like an AFC Conference championship game. I frankly
don't even think we can take away anything about the
defenses or maybe even the offenses other than that Lamar
Jackson and Derrick Henry and Josh Allen and his crew
are excellent, which is a great thing to be able
to take away, obviously, because some of the best players
in the league are playing at an extremely high level.
(18:38):
In the Week one, it was a blast to watch them.
They are sitting atop our EPA for play rankings as
two of the most advanced efficient offenses in the league
on suomer sports dot Com. And I just want to
sit back and watch great football. And that's certainly what
we saw Sunday night.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
All right, Monday night was an interesting game for a
lot of people to witness because it was the first
game that we saw for Caleb john or Caleb Williams
under center with Ben Johnson.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
As his coach, and JJ McCarthy made his NFL debut.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
And I'll tell you what, Sam, first three quarters the
McCarthy stuff just look rough, and I just so much
respect for the kid for sticking with it, and that fourth.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Quarter was brilliant.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
I'm not really buying into the hole, like, Okay, let's
write the book on Caleb Williams at this point. But
Game one of season two looked a lot like the
entire rookie season where there're just a lot of inconsistencies,
but the Vikings get to win in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
How'd you digest that one?
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Yeah, I mean, I can't really say anything too great
about either of these players. They both played like young players. Obviously,
we saw JJ McCarthy be able to pull it together
and as he has, frankly done since he was in
high school. The dude just doesn't lose. I have some
real concerns about Caleb Williams. Though people were very excited
about the ten for ten start, we're excited about how
(19:56):
he was operating on the field. I was not super
happy about how he was operating in the offense. Ben
Johnson year every year, the now head coach of the
Chicago Bears former offens coordinator the Detroit Lions, has been
a bread and butter under center play action guy, and frankly,
we saw Jared Goff get traded to the Lions because
(20:17):
he could not operate in that system. But he turned
Jared Goff into perhaps the best passer when it comes
to under center play action, and everyone expected for him
to do the same with Caleb. I did not see
Caleb operate with the same amount of discipline or middle
of the field accuracy that we saw from Jared Golf.
That's the thing to keep an eye on if he's
unable to do that. I kind of be worried about
(20:40):
beagent potentially coming in midseason.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
So Jackson Dard played his high school balls just about
ten miles from Aron'm broadcasting and you know, the Giants
obviously could not move the ball at all against the Commanders.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
We'll see the Commanders.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Tonight and Brian Dave balls Sam. I mean, there's some
pressure on him. It's not just New York. It's just
the fact that it hasn't looked great after a pretty
promising start. Like I always use the term it's getting
laid early. And it is only one game, But how
long do you think New York waits before young Jackson
Dart's under center for them?
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Yeah, it can't get much worse. They're sitting at twenty
eighth in the league and expected points have in per play.
You definitely want to perform better, especially against the division
opponent like the Commanders who they faced. I think you
got to give Russ a little bit more time. I'm
interested to see if they would go immediately to Jackson
Dart instead of Jameis Winston. I expected and had heard
(21:40):
that the plan was to basically try to pull them
homes off with Jackson Dart. But at some point, particularly
when Brian Dave all has talked to time and time
again about how Dart is his guy and they have
this great relationship and so forth and so on, you
have to give him the keys to the car. The
question I have is, how can you do that with
the quality of this all offensive line. I mean, it
(22:01):
just looked stutecred last week. You had Russ getting hit.
There was all kinds of things that were going wrong,
and I just don't think you can put a rookie quarterback.
So I actually wouldn't be surprised if we see Jameis
Winston first. Prior to seeing Jackson dark.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
As a Jets fan, I was queasy watching Aaron Rodgers
learn how to play quarterback again in met life wearing
another jersey. I will say this, I thought the Jets
offense looked pretty good.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
There's some jute there that I didn't think we were
going to see.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Justin Field's a bit of a lightning rod as far
as where you fall on him and tip of the
cated Aaron Rodgers, as much as I cannot stand him, Steelers.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Roll into a new jersey and get a win over
my Jets. Sam, what do you think?
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Man? I was so excited to see the Jets. We
talked about how we didn't really see the Ben Johnson
Lyons DNA come through with Caleb Williams well, the guy
they let go to draft Caleb Williams. It's like he
was incarnate of the line. They were running extremely hard,
they were extremely physical on offense. Moreover, he showed he
(23:05):
could sling the ball over the middle of the field.
He was our second best graded player in our Passing
Suomer score, which looks every tenth of a second at
the performance of players and evaluates them in a vacuum.
And you just gotta believe that Tanner Engstron was very
happy with the way his offense performs. You gotta get
that defense in line. Basically, the mo of Basically what
(23:28):
happened for the Steelers was they ran a ton of
under center play action, they were able to complete some
deep passes, kind of got lucky at the end. In
the aggregate, it really doesn't look all that great for them,
and I think we're seeing something similar to that we
saw with Russell Wilson in a Steelers' uniform last year,
where they may win a couple of games but fall
off late. They really performed about average in terms of
(23:49):
all the efficiency metrics. I think a couple of things
went their way. The Jets defense wasn't one hundred percent
there yet and I think the Steelers are a closer
team to keep an eye on. Aaron Rodgers may have
had a ton of touchdowns, but he really didn't do
that well on a snap by snap basis. I want
to keep a close eye on that. I have a
much better green light for your Jets rather than the
(24:11):
Steelers right now.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Love hearing that say, I love hearing that. You know oftentimes,
and I'm certainly not the only media member that's dropping
this parallel, but when Patrick Mahomes started, you know, becoming
peek Patrick Mahomes, and we saw that magic week in
and week out, it really felt like the NFL equivalent
to Steph Curry and the.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Golden State Warriors, and every dynasty comes to an end.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
The Warriors, you know, they randomly won a championship a
couple of years ago after a lot of people had
ridden them off. But it does feel like we're in
the fall slash winter of the Stephan Curry experience. I'm
not trying to panic if you're a Chiefs fan after
one week and the Chargers might be really good, but
is there maybe a sense that this dominant run from
the Kansas City Chiefs might be coming to an end?
Speaker 4 (24:56):
If there's any panic, I don't think it should be
on the offensive side of the ball. They actually sit
as the sixth most efficient offense right now, and Patrick
Mahomes quite frankly had one of the best teams we've
ever seen in terms of his second half play in Brazil.
I think you gotta tip your cap to the Chargers
on this one. The Chargers last year ran a pretty
(25:17):
conservative offense despite having Justin Herbert, who I think solidified
himself as an MVP candidate in Week one against the Chiefs.
They have kind of changed the priority of their offense.
Last week it looked like Justin Herbert had a lot
more freedom the keys to the car to do what
he wanted. And when we saw Quentin Johnston progress, who
(25:39):
all has struggled with drops for a long time, but
last year in particular, his route running score started to
look a little bit better for us and I kind
of projected him as a breakout candidate if he could
just hold on to the ball. He was able to
do that in Brazil. That led to big gains in
the opening up for Keenan Allen Land McConkey, who we
know have been good last season in season overseason for
(26:00):
Keenan and I think this just shows that the Chargers
offense may be something that we believe in a little
bit more than we had in the past, rather than
a negative reflection on the Chiefs. I think those two
teams both have a chance to win solidly above tien
plus games.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Any concerned it all with the Bengals offense against the Browns.
I mean, the Browns clearly were doing everything they could
to take Jamar out of it, and Burrow, I thought,
just made sound decisions. But you know, seventeen sixteen they
were able to squeak out the win. I don't think
the Browns are very good and as you and I
talked about not too long ago, the Bengals over the
(26:36):
past few years have simply just been an average defense
away from being a contender. And they get a win early,
which has been their achilles heel over the past few years,
as you know. But takeaways from since He's win in Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
Yeah, I think this is the first time we can
ever say that the Bengals are in the top eight
of any defensive statistic. In the last two years, the
defense did look a little bit there. I think that's
more of a reflection on the Browns, but I just
want to highlight how excellent that Brown's defense was. Miles
Garrett showed why. For a very brief period of time
he was the highest paid player in the league and
(27:12):
now is the second highest paid player in the league
after Michael Parsons. He showed why, and then that opened
up stuff on the other side. Isaamh Maguire, the other
defensive end, did extremely well in his first game. And
when you have two awesome defensive ends and add a
lot of talent around that, that chalks up to a
good defense. I think you're gonna have to worry about
(27:32):
that Brown's defense. They may be able to call some
trouble for the rest of the AFC North. I think
this is just another one of those Bengals starts where
they make some adjustments, they figure it out as the
year goes on. I'm not super worried about Burrow and Chase,
especially given they were able to do what it takes
to get the wind. It didn't look great in the
efficiency numbers, but I'm not going to move off my
(27:55):
expectation for them.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
In the vane and area of overreacting massively. After one week,
I will ask you has the shine kind of fallen
down a little bit off Mike McDaniel in Miami a film.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Yeah, it felt like.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
He was just this wonder kins that everybody thought was
gonna lead Miami to the Promised Land.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
And maybe the cults are good.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
I don't know, Sam, but they got undressed and we
saw Zach Wilson under center in the fourth quarter. A
panic meter for the Dolphins right now, Sam sounds like.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
What, it's not looking great? And Spence, I come on
here and talk in terms of data and all these
things that we see in productivity and stuff like that,
and sometimes I think it may just come down the vibes.
And I need to look at the vibes a little
bit more because I was really bullish on the Miami Dolphins.
We haven't seen Mike McDaniel lead an offense without his
(28:48):
starting quarterback that has been bad. They frankly just have
not been bad. And last year they were able to
add a defensive coordinator in Anthony Weaver who brought that team,
really drugged that team, despite injuries and all kinds of hooplah,
to a top ten defense. I thought that was going
to be much of the same last year that they
were going to be able to buckle down despite all
(29:09):
the strange preseason happenings, and that good coaching was just
gonna win out. That is not what we saw on Sunday.
I do wonder if this is just a fluke and
the worst get worse. You may remember years ago the
game where Mike mcgagor actually beat the Denver Broncos and
Sean Payton by a score of like seventy to twenty. Well,
that Broncos team ended up kind of squeaking around the
(29:31):
playoff race. Perhaps something like that will happen for the
Miami Dolphins. But I don't really have any great data
behind this one. I think the vibes are just off
in Miami and I can't really explain it.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
A week ago tonight before we move over into the
Week two slate, I think most people figured Philly would
run away from Dallas. And obviously Jayden Carter getting getting
kicked out six seconds into the game, it was gonna
hurt you. Probably the best defensive player on that team
and one of the best defensive players in the league.
And if CD he makes a couple of catches and look,
(30:02):
he still had one hundred and ten with seven catches,
but I think he.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Had four drops. Dallas was dangerously close to winning that game.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
One week ago tonight, what'd you make of the Cowboys
Eagles game?
Speaker 4 (30:12):
It' spence from someone I was very wrong about to
someone I was very right about. I thought the X
factor in that game was going to be adri Jackson,
the cornerback, and boy did Dak Prescott tick on him
all game. And like you mentioned, if Ceedee Lamb makes
a couple more catches and doesn't have some very uncharacteristic drops,
Ceedee Lamb probably has over two hundred yards. And we're
(30:33):
talking about the Cowboys overcoming the Michael Parsons trade. The
defense didn't look too bad. They were very, very badly
hurt by the scrambling ability of Jalen Hurts, and you know,
not for nothing, would have been great to have Michael
Parsons to stop that. But I think this offense is
just going to be a good offense, especially if Clayton Adams,
the offense coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, the head coach who was
(30:54):
the offense coordinator last year, are able to scheme up
the detailed and interesting run concept that they did against
the Eagles A lot of cool gap scheme, pulling a
lot of misdirection, and they were able to get those young,
intier offensive linemen going. They sprung Jabonte Williams and Miles
Sanders a couple of times. I think this matchup between
(31:14):
the Eagles and the Cowboys is a lot more close
than people expect, and it basically came down to drops
in a fumble. And when you're getting in those close
games like that against really top tier teams. And I
will note I think the Eagles left side of their
offensive line was a little banged up, so I don't
know how much to put stock into their performance, but
I think that we may really have something with this
(31:36):
Cowboys offense, and I think the Eagles defense may have
a massive worry in their secondary moving forward.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
All right, let's move over to some of the Week
two stuff, and we'll start with tonight because I think
it's gonna be an awesome game. And I've oftentimes been
a critic if Thursday I had football sometimes I think
the turnaround leads to poor play. But last year I
think the Thursday Night tails were pretty good and this
one should be really really good.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Tonight.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Jordan Love, our local kid who played at Utah State,
Jayden Daniels, once upon a time, our Pac twelve buddy
before he left us for the SEC Packers, getting three
in the hook at Lambeau. How do you think it
goes down tonight?
Speaker 4 (32:11):
I think it comes down to Jade Daniels, the rookie
of the year. Right now, they have about an eight
point three to three percent sack rate. That's not very good.
The Washington Commanders are twenty second in that statistic. But
Jadan daniels kind of superpower is his ability to not
get sacked very deep behind the line. He'll run around,
he'll try to figure it out. Patrick Mahlonmes also does
(32:32):
this a little bit as well, and it'll end up
kind of being right around the chains when he ends
up getting tackled. I don't know if that's going to
be the case. You look at Michael Parsons last week,
really only played in pass rush situations. Ends up getting
three pressures, was really impacting the game. Ends up getting
a sack, which I think was a little bit more
Jared Goff's fault there, But what it really did was
(32:56):
open up a highly paid defensive end on the other side,
where Sean Year and Devonte Wyatt the defensive tackle. That's
nothing to say that Edrin Cooper is still in that defense,
and I think we may have one of the best
front sevens we've seen collected in quite a long time
with the Packers, if they're able to dominate a kind
of newly constructed offensive line. With the Commanders, you got
(33:17):
Josh Cronnerley at the right tackle, you got one of
the best left tackles in the league. But in the
new scheme in Laramie Tunsel, that's the real key matchups
I want to see. I want to see the young
tackle and one of the best tackles in the league
go against two extremely highly paid, very effective edge rushers,
and I want to see how Jane Daniels manages that
in this game. Whoever wins that battle will probably win
(33:38):
the game.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Can my New York Jets make it interesting against the Bills?
The Bills are a six point five point favorite at
met Life. That'll be a Sunday morning tilt. Can my
Jets make that game interesting?
Speaker 4 (33:50):
Sam, Look, I think it's going to come down to
their defense. If their defense can put up any fight
against the team which now has Keon Coleman going over
hundred yards and has James Cook running wild and has
two of the best tackles in the league. If they
can't stand up to that despite the talent on that
Jets defense, I think we may see the Bills kind
(34:11):
of inflict the pain that we've seen them inflict on
the Jets in previous years. But I'd really love to
see another shootout here. I think if Tanneringstra can continue
the march forward with Justin fields ad in successful runs,
which she did at in the middle of the field passing.
I'm worried about that Bill's defense. I was worried about
him last year. They've basically changed nothing in that defense,
(34:34):
whether personnel or scheme. I think the Jets may be
able to take advantage of that, given the weapons that
we saw utilized in Week one, and so I really
am hoping for a shootout, but I think that the
ability for Josh Allen to manage the game may lead
to this one getting out of control.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
In the fourth Super Bowl rematch, of course, on Fox
is the game everybody's talking about, which is the Eagles
and the Chiefs, where Philly is a slight favorite, even
though they will be.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
On the road.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
They're at Arrowhead so we already talked about both these
teams and their performance from a week ago. Of course,
a lot of people are going to be watching this one.
How do you think it goes down?
Speaker 4 (35:11):
I think this is a very interesting matchup because it's
weakness on weakness. I talked about that rough secondary play
that we saw from the Eagles, particularly at that cornerback
to position and at the safety position. But who do
the Chiefs really have to attack that weakness. They don't
really have anyone at the wide receiver position. Xavior Worthy's
a little banged up, Travis Kelcey's a little old. So
(35:32):
it's really going to come down to Mahomes. If we
see Mahomes have a vintage game, I think this is
a Chief victory. I also want to see the other
players on the other side of the ball, Chris Jones,
Trent McDuffie, and Steve Spagnola, the defensive coordinator, have a
vintage Chief defense game. But I think when it really
comes down to it, if Mahomes plays well, I'm going
to go with the Chiefs here.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Sam.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Let me ask you about, you know, arch Manning, the
upcoming quarterback class that a lot of people are talking
about that some people believe certain teams in pro football
are already looking towards how real, in your opinion is
as this upcoming quarterback class and what sort of NFL
quarterbacks you think are contained in it. Are teams doing
(36:12):
the right thing to kind of look ahead?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
In your opinion, this has been something that I've kept
a very close eye on, even into last college football season,
where everyone was hyping up how deep this quarterback class
would be. Names like Garrett Nussmeyer, names like Arch Manning,
names like Drew Aller, Lenora Sellers, so forth, and so on.
There certainly will be a lot of draftable guys. I
(36:36):
worry about how high end any of that talent really is.
I think we were really betting on Arch pulling away.
It looks like he's a little banged up, injured, not
able to really get a ton of whizz on the ball,
or at least not what we saw from last year.
I think we're going to have to see him progress
as a passer. I worry about how Garrett and Nussmeyer
can really go to the next level given his kind
(36:59):
of general inability or unwillingness to move out of the pocket.
We saw that change a little bit in a good
matchup against Clemson, but he wasn't really able to find
the easy receptions that he was finding a game prior against.
Speaker 8 (37:12):
Louisiana Tech, which was a little bit of a red flag.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
And then you add in the guys like alt Oller
and Lenora Sellers, and they seem to make the same
mistakes over and over again. I think this may be
a class like the one where you saw, you know,
Jalen Hurts or Dak Prescott, Like you may be able
to pick up a guy like that who has kind
of a broad distribution and maybe ends up being an
NFL level quarterback after a couple of years. But I
(37:35):
just don't think this has high level talent like the
Borough year, like the Jade Daniels Caleb Williams here, I
think teams that Hank are going to be sadly disappointed
in the quality of the quarterbacks come November.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Sam, Before I say you lose, I play in a
fantasy football league where we start two quarterbacks. Bratt Purdy
is heard, Do I start Aaron Rodgers or Mac Jones?
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Oh man, I gotta stick with Aaron Rodgers. Just from
what we saw last week, I think Mac Jones has
just too big of a distribution, and we've seen this
Shanahan offense go south, particularly when we saw guys like
Nick Mullens in the Fit and stuff like that. I
think this is going to be a run heavy game,
particularly since Christian McCaffrey is like literally the only person
(38:19):
even remotely healthy, and they also have Brian Robinson back
there as well. I think that this is going to
be kind of a Shanahan let's see what we can
call game. But I you know, he allegedly really loved
Mac Jones back in the day. They ended up picking
Trey Lance. Time is a flat circle. Now he's a
forty nine er, much like Sam Darnold was several years ago.
(38:40):
So I think it's a tough ask. But I think
I'd stick with Aaron Rodgers. But if you can get
a running quarterback somehow, Spence, I'd try to do that.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, Jayden's my QB one, So I'm good there, Sam.
I appreciate the advice. I need to win before he
set you loose. Where can people go get your work?
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Go check us out sumersports dot com or the Summer
Sports Show on YouTube. We'd love if you could subscribe
on YouTube. We're putting together a really good product. Our
producers are really locked in. You can watch some film.
There's great data and we're also sharing some proprietary data
on there as well.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Thank you, my friend. Enjoy the games?
Speaker 4 (39:14):
Okay, yes, sir?
Speaker 1 (39:16):
All right, Sam Brockhouse, Suomer Sports and my assistant fantasy
football coach, appreciate his time today. We are live today
at the Mountain America Expost Center, which is ninety five
seventy five State Street. Come on, bine and say hi,
and my friend Adell stops by once again sales outfitter
for Bish's RV.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Are you a fantasy football player?
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Oh? I used to be.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
You used to be.
Speaker 5 (39:36):
I know, I need to join back in.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Are you a sports fan?
Speaker 5 (39:39):
A little bit? I'm getting there. My boyfriend's helping me.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Okay, does he have an NFL team?
Speaker 5 (39:44):
I believe he is the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Steelers.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
Okay, well they beat my Jets last week, so we'll
keep that aside, all right, Adele Bish's RV. What makes
you guys different from your competitors? Why should folks look
at your products?
Speaker 5 (39:59):
Yeah, well, a couple different reasons. We have no hidden fees.
We're not going to charge you to prep the unit
or anything crazy like that. It's very straightforward. We also
have a seventy two hour guarantee, so if you were
to buy the RV and let's say for some reason
it doesn't work out, you have seventy two hours to decide,
you know, if that's right for you. We just really
want to make sure that you're happy with what you
(40:20):
get and customers, are you satisfied?
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Very nice.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
So educate me on the different types of units you have,
and and talk to me like I'm five, because I
need it. So do educate me on the different type
of like units that bushes at.
Speaker 5 (40:32):
Yeah, so starting with travel trailers, that's going to be
your basic you know, pull behind. It's going to attach
to the hitch on your truck. Then we also have
fifth wheels that's going to actually go in the bed
of your truck, so it's going to be a little
bit different hauling it. And then we have the toy
hauler versions of each of those. So you can bring
your ATVs, your motorcycles, you can take everything with your
camping and go wherever you want to go. I know
a lot of folks go to the dunes. And besides that,
(40:55):
there's a couple different styles, you know, of travel trailers
and of fifth wheels and stuff like that, but those
are going to be the main two types. And then
of course we also have driveables, so we've got the
big giant bus looking Class a's and the Class c's
you know with the bed over the cabs. So we've
got quite the selection.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
Okay, So like from one end to the other end
of the spectrum, you've got all of it.
Speaker 5 (41:15):
Yeah, I could say so.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
And for folks that maybe are a little bit wary
of an RV experience, what makes the RV experience just
a great way to see the state, see the country.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
What are the best things about it?
Speaker 5 (41:27):
Yeah, the best thing is really the people and getting
to know the land and getting to experience different cultures
and things like that. And also with us, I mean,
we do provide you with our RV fixed membership, So
with that, it's like basically having a mobile tech in
your pocket, so you can call these guys over the
phone and they can help you fixture our V over
the phone. So it keeps you out, keeps you camping
(41:48):
so much way, less time in the service shop.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
For folks that can't make it to the show, let's
hear about your other locations where they can find you.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
Yeah, so we actually have twenty four across the country,
so we are national two here in Utah. We've got
quite a few in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, mostly on the
West coast, but a couple on the East coast as well,
like Michigan, Indiana.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Very nice.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Well, look great to meet you. You're very good at
this radio thing. You should look at it if.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
This doesn't work out, thanks, Adell.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
All Right, we're live today out here at the Mountain
America Expo Center, which is ninety five seventy five South
State Street. We will go until nine o'clock tonight, and
then they reopen tomorrow at ten am and they'll go
to ten pm tomorrow and Saturday Sunday it's ten am
to four pm.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
But today it's Family Day. Okay. You need to know
that because you can get your entire family in for
only ten dollars.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
Otherwise it's ten dollars per adult in kids twelve and
underget in free, but today ten dollars gets everybody in.

RV super Show. We do it every year out here.
We are very close to America First Field, where r
SL calls home. Speaking of RSL, it's time to take
a little bit of a break from the football conversation to.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Talk some soccer.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Kurt Schmidt's, our guy, chief roster constructor for the club,
stops by on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
Kurt Appy, Thursday, Man, how we doing good? I'm good.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
So since you guys last played a match, have did
you write a book? Did you travel the world? Did
you go see family across like, what is it? What
is it with this break?
Speaker 4 (43:57):
Man?
Speaker 1 (43:58):
It feels like such a weird break late summer, early fall.
I can't even remember last time you guys played a game.
Speaker 8 (44:05):
Yeah, it's a long one and the biggest culprit because
you know, we didn't have a game step of ple
international break this past weekend. So the biggest culprit was
with Seattle, the Seattle game getting moved for League's Cup.
But it's been good to get I think, to give
the coaches and the players time to refocus and work
(44:26):
on a few things that you know that we needed
to sharpen up.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
So what are those boxes court? You guys wanted check?
Speaker 1 (44:32):
You know, we had Pablo On last week, got up
with Johnny Russell yesterday, so that was fun. And you know,
we talked about the dynamic of it being a little
bit of a mini like training camp because of course
you brought in three additions during the transfer window in
Olatunji and.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
Cruise and then DeAndre Yedlin as well.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
So during this window it can be looked at as
a couple of different ways.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
You know.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
One way is what a weird time to take this
long break and the other way is Okay, let's utilize
the time to get these guys ingratiated so they understand
what we're asking from them. So what sort of boxes
have you guys checked over the past three weeks.
Speaker 8 (45:09):
Yeah, some of the you touched on it with some
of the new guys, getting them more time together and
training and just getting that familiarity going so that they
play well off each other. I think that's been very important.
I know Pavel's been working with the guys on some
scenarios and situations, you know, drilling down on the details
of how to approach a different faith and different moments
(45:30):
in the game for sure. For sure, working and taking
a look at what some different shapes look like and
how some guys might look in different spots, and and
then of course, you know, just drilling down on set
pieces with with a big gap between games, you know,
there's there's some good work to be done in that
way as well.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
So some news today Kurt Well extended contract extension for
Rotha Cabral who has just been dynamite. And that's only
what I see when it comes to matches, and I
understand that off the pitch, you guys have really appreciated
what he's brought to your locker room. So tell us
about this process, what it's been like for you to
kind of witness your decision to bring him in manifest
(46:13):
great things. And you know the conversations you guys had
that ultimately end with him signing a contract extension.
Speaker 8 (46:21):
Yeah, I mean, you know, it couldn't be happier for
him and and you know, for him to stay with us.
And obviously he and his family has settled in the
area really well and they enjoy it. And so you know,
I think nobody deserves it more than he does in
terms of what he's brought to the team in such
a short time, and bringing all of his experience abroad
(46:42):
in Italy and England and Brazil to bear, you know,
with with us and our group. Obviously on the field
which everybody sees, they see the says he makes his
ability to help us in possession and build out of
the back and and all these things, which you know
is a huge boost to the group. But also what
he adds in his maturity and calmness in the locker room.
(47:04):
You know, we do have a very young team. He's
obviously not young, he's he's very experienced, and he's grown
in his maturity, and you know, he helps us in
the locker room. He helps us manage the you know,
the pressures and those sorts of things, and those.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
Are difficult.
Speaker 8 (47:22):
Things to bring to a new team instantaneously, right, Like
you can't kind of step into a new group on
day one and just be like, hey, everyone listened to me,
now you know. So he's he's also approached things very
respectfully in that way, and he's he's taken the right path,
and he's grown, he's grown on everyone, and now you know,
I think he's commanded the respect with his performances and
(47:43):
how he cares himself of all the players and all
the staff.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Thirty five years old and according to the release, you
have signed him through twenty twenty seven, with an option
for twenty twenty eight. Most positions that feels really really
old when it comes to keepers, you know, I suppose
a lot of great keepers age pretty well.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
Is that fair to say? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (48:05):
I mean, goalkeeper is the one position that you can
play for a long time, and usually.
Speaker 4 (48:12):
You get better because you get smarter, you read the
game better, your positioning gets.
Speaker 8 (48:16):
Better, and you know, you actually as you get older,
as a goalkeeper, you tend to look less impressive because
it looks like you're making a bunch of easy say
sometimes and everyone's hitting the ball at you. But it's
really because you're anticipating and your positioning is just that
much better, your footwork is usually better, and so you know,
it kind of simplifies the game for those guys. So yeah,
(48:37):
I mean my first couple of years in MLS with Seattle,
I believe our goalkeeper was over forty when he came,
and you know, he had similar, you know, experiences abroad,
and when you have those experiences of that maturity, you know,
I think that's that side of the game for those
guys only becomes better with age. And you know, especially
(48:57):
the type of goalkeeper he is. You know, he's not
someone that just for lies on insane athleticism to cover
the entire goal, right, So that's not something that's gonna
you know, that's something that would tend to be players
as they get older. But with him, it's it's you know,
obviously the ability on the ball with his feet that's
(49:17):
not going away, and certainly his positioning and how he
reads the anticipates the game, that's that's something that only
gets better as he gets older.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
Eight excuse me, eight clean sheets for RAFA this year. Curious, Kurt,
Why why now? I'm not criticizing at all. I'm just wondering,
you know, as far as the timing of the announcement,
I wasn't expecting when I got the email. So what
what made now the right time to extend cabral.
Speaker 8 (49:43):
I think it's it's a reward for for obviously what
he's done. And you know, he's a guy that has
a body of work behind him, and so this is
this is who he is, right, This isn't a young
player who's had a good month and you know, and
and it's you know, too too anticipatory. But I think
he's still one that's you know, come in and was
willing to come in at a level with the group
(50:06):
to to sort of prove himself again, right, which is
another mark in his favor in terms of his character,
as he was willing to come in and humble himself
and say, look, I'll come in, I'll show you guys
what I can do. And he did that, and so
I think it's important as we head into the stretch
run here and then you know, into the off season
and for twenty six that we have a key position,
(50:27):
a key player and a key position locked up that
we've shown him the fans, you know, and the rest
of the locker room honestly that when you come in
and do those right things, the club, you know, is
recognizes those things and makes that commitment to players that
come in and do the right things.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
Both Diego, Luna Brian o'heita now back with the squad
after their national team duties. We saw Diego with one
start and then came off the bench against Japan, and I.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
Thought he looked really good. It feels like Poachattino really
likes Diego.
Speaker 4 (51:00):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (51:00):
Talk to Johnny Russell, as I referenced earlier, and he
said one of the reasons that he.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
Wanted to sign here was to play with Diego.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
And we still really need to see Diego with Cruise
and all atune Gi so we can kind of see
what that looks like. So uh, to give us some
returns as far as you know, Diego back on the
ground and hopefully seeing him integrated with the other additions
you made during the summer transfer window.
Speaker 8 (51:23):
Yeah, I mean, it's just about growing that familiarity and
how they play with each other, and you know, Diego
when he has the ball, knowing the types of runs
that Olotun G and Rwan will make without really you know,
looking and seeing.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
It, you know, just having that familiarity.
Speaker 8 (51:38):
You know, Rwan knowing knowing that Diego can get in
the ball, victor knowing that Gig can getting the ball
in dangerous visions.
Speaker 3 (51:44):
You know.
Speaker 8 (51:44):
So as they as they breathe get that familiarity going.
They understand what space is in the field, they like
to play in, what type of runs each of them
like to make. You know, that's I'm looking forward to that.
I think everyone should be, because once they start clicking
like that, it's going to be it's going to be
very dangerous.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
So when when you consider the players you have in
the attack, I mean, we haven't even talked about Diyogo,
does it feel like and look, I know it's Pablo's choice, Okay,
I know that it's his choice as far as what
the eleven looks like, But does it feel like you
guys are close to a consensus as far as what
your best group is up top at least what you
(52:24):
would like to see with the with the players who
start to kind of maximize your ability in the attack
has Kurt, I mean, if if we're honest, just it's
been the inability to score goals that has kind of
caught you guys. You've been stout defensively with Rafa having
such a great year, but we got to find the
back of the net.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
You feel like you guys are close to a consensus
group you want near the top of the attack.
Speaker 8 (52:45):
I mean, look, honestly, because of what you just said,
you know that that we've been light on goals, and
that's that's the job up there. I can't say yes
to that right because until until there's a player or
you know, a person or you know two people or
a group of people that are that are showing that
they can produce together, you know, I can't say that X,
(53:08):
Y or Z E position is settled. You know, the
competition is there and guys have to perform to keep
their their.
Speaker 4 (53:14):
Jobs and their spots.
Speaker 8 (53:16):
You know, we obviously brought into guys in the winter
that we think or in the summer that we think
can can help us score goals and will help with
score goals. But you know, I can't sit here and
say the aspense we're you know, we've settled what that
attacking group looks like before they've really you know, shown
that they will produce at the level that we need
them to. So we still need that to gel and
(53:36):
come together and show itself in reality before we can
say stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (53:42):
Tell me, Kurt, from your perspective, what you saw that
caused that nice little streak you guys had to come
back down earth a little bit. You know, it feels
like it's been a combination, unfortunately, of bad luck as
we've spoken to you and Pablo and Jason about and others,
with some tough calls going against you, and also some
bad form at the wrong time. You guys really had
(54:02):
a tick in for a minute there and then it
kind of came back. I know that's just the bio
rhythm of a season, but any thoughts on specifically what
seemed to happen as the form combined with the bad
luck led to some lack of results.
Speaker 8 (54:15):
Look, I think MLS can be a bit of a
streaky league at times because of the parity that's driven
and there's not a ton always from a talent standpoint,
separating you know, each team on any given day, so
it can be a streaky league where a team will,
you know, and I think I think some maybe it
was New England. You know, I think when ten games
unbeaten and ten games winless, you know, back to back street.
(54:37):
So it can be a league like that and things
can happen. And I think, you know, you noted the
some of the calls and certainly you know, not that
it's anything is purely the fault of the referees, but
but there were some calls in there that that were
very dubious to say the least, and you know it
certainly affected some results. And look, you know, momentum is
(54:58):
a real thing. The mentality the players is a real thing,
and whether the referee made a bad call or or
your team just you know, didn't play well, have to
win the game.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
The end result.
Speaker 8 (55:09):
You know, if the end results a win, then everyone
feels good. If the end results a loss, everyone feels worse.
And you know, those things have real impacts on training,
on games, on on momentum and how we carry things forward.
So you know, I think I think we've struggled, you know,
at times to keep the momentum going, and sometimes through
you know, our faults, sometimes through no fault of our
(55:30):
own or little fault of our own. And you know,
and I think we've we've really needed to be better
at holding our focus and key moments of some games,
especially more recently, whether that's set pieces or you know,
key points in the game, beginning of the game, end
of the game, you know, beginning.
Speaker 4 (55:47):
End of each half. You know.
Speaker 8 (55:49):
So I think there's been some some mental focus. I
guess issues that they're they're at some point as well.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
The art of talent evaluation in professional sports is always
fascinated me. I did it on the pro basketball level
for a couple of years, and you get.
Speaker 2 (56:04):
A lot right, you get a lot wrong, but you
do the.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
Best to analyze and then you make the decision. You
see what happens. And since you and I last spoke, Urge,
you have loaned dom Mark Zuke to Cincinnati, and it
to me, I'll just speak for myself, it was a
reminder of how little I know about the sport, because
the first few matches after you acquired him last year,
I thought you had some juice with him, and there
were moments so quite frankly, brilliance. Honestly, why do you
(56:29):
think it didn't work out with Tom? As he has
moved on to Cincinnati.
Speaker 8 (56:34):
Yeah, and look and Dom's on loan, and you know,
the future is not not set in stone with him
in terms of what he does on his loan, and
you know what happens come January. But you know, when
when we sign young players, and when you do sign
young players and your developmental club, whether those players come
from the academy or from abroad, you need to realize
(56:56):
like what that entails. And obviously, you know, youthful energy,
you know, that's some of the positives maybe, but there's
also negatives in terms of inconsistency and experience, maturity, and
so you know, Tom's not alone. I think, you know,
I think you're right in terms of what you said
you saw last season. I think in preseason this year
(57:17):
he was he was also phenomenal, you know. And it's
it's worth noting that we never know always what's going
on inside a player's head and what's going on in
his personal life or at home or with his family
or anything that could obviously always affect what they're doing
on the field, because all we see is them, you know,
on the field every every weekend, and it's like, you know, hey,
(57:38):
nobody's really interested in that. You got to go perform
and do your thing, and sometimes it becomes difficult for
them to do that. And sometimes young players, you know,
they have a bad game or two and that's never
happened to them before, right, you know, and it's this
is the first time I've had I've struggled, and I
don't really you know, I can't look back on the
last time I struggled and how did I get myself
out of it, because that's never happened before. So they're
(57:59):
learning how to deal with those situations in real time.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
So Tom, Tom, you know.
Speaker 8 (58:03):
And there's a few other guys too that we've had
and whether they're in this patch now where they've gone
through it and come out of it. But you know,
young players will go through rough patches, and you know,
I think Tom with us was going through a bit
of a rough patch, and I think a little bit
of a change of scenery and maybe a change of
role for for Cincinnati can hopefully help him rediscover his
(58:25):
form and then you know what that means him going forward,
whether whether they exercise or you know, try to ext
the purchase option at the end of the loan, or
it comes back to us or you know some other thing.
You know that's that's all in the future and yet
to get to be written.
Speaker 1 (58:43):
Is Gozo with you guys this weekend? The U twenty
World Cup is coming up, right, curtin Chile?
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Is is going?
Speaker 2 (58:48):
I don't even know. Is Gozo with you guys for
the weekend until.
Speaker 8 (58:52):
Yes, he is with us this weekend and and then.
Speaker 2 (58:56):
He will go with the U twenties to the World
Cup in Chile. Yes, Uh, he will go soon.
Speaker 8 (59:02):
Yeah, but he with us for the time being. Off
the top of my head, I believe it's uh, somewhere
around the week and a half is from now, if
I can do Masu, So, yeah, he's he's with us
right now for the time being. He just got back
from U twenty camp over the window. He and and
(59:22):
Marcus Sobrono, you know who's the other player we have
at the U twenties did really well and uh, and
we're we're excited for both of them to hopefully represent
the U s at the Youth wul Cup.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
Does it feel like Diego is solidified?
Speaker 1 (59:37):
We're nine months away, Kurt from the World Cup, and
like I said earlier, Pochettino seems to love Diego and
every time he's given a chance, I feel like he's
one of the brighter players for the US men's national team.
Does it feel like he's locked in a spot for
the World Cup?
Speaker 8 (59:52):
I mean, look, he Pochettino does seem so like him
and has shown a lot of faith in him, and
that's great, and I hope it continues. And you know,
it's up to Diego to keep doing the right things
to make sure it continues, because that, you know, the
faith isn't that you're a good player, and that's it,
don't worry about it. The faith is that you're going
(01:00:12):
to continue to do the things that brought you to
my attention, right That's that's the faith that that Pactino
has in him. And you know, as soon as you know,
as soon as if you're a player like Diego, as
soon as you think like, oh yeah, I'm you know,
I got this is that's when that slips through your fingers.
So I wouldn't say anyone, you know, especially the way
things have gone for the national team lately, it's hard
(01:00:33):
to say that anyone like you know, is a lock
for for anything right now, to be honest, because I
think there even though this window worked out where we're
coming out of it on the positive having been in Japan,
but it's it's, you know, it's still something where they've
got a lot to work through to find the right
group and the right mix of players, because it's not
(01:00:54):
always the you know, eleven or twenty best players in
the country. It's about the best team and so what
is the right you know, the best fit for individuals
with each other that can help us be successful with
the World Cup. And that's what Pochettino's doing right now.
And the reality is as much as you want to
win every game and fans, you know, I'm a fan
right and and I'd love the US to win every game,
(01:01:17):
but you know, if you're if you're learning things, you're
gonna go through struggles. You're gonna lose games you don't.
You don't learn as much when you win as when
you as when you lose. And you know, hopefully he
Pochettino and his staff will learn some things and learn
some lessons from from those experiences that will that'll serve
them well going forward. And you know there's gonna be
mistakes that won't be repeated come come time to the
(01:01:38):
World Cup.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
Last thing before I said, you lose, Kurt. Here's some analysis.
Saturday feels like a big game. There you go, You're welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Kansas City nailed it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
I hate you know, we get down the interview. But
what do you guys ever do?
Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
Every game is a big game, you know.
Speaker 8 (01:01:53):
I mean I think, I think, I think the cliche
I guess would be that the playoffs start now for us.
Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
There you go, so how do you how do you
get three on Saturday against Casey?
Speaker 8 (01:02:04):
We score the whole spense like you've kind of you
kind of you kind of hit the nail bad before.
But you know, look, I think if if our guys
are are clicking together, if you know, if the last
couple of weeks have helped us gel, you know, and
become more familiar with each other, you know, I know,
we'll create chances. I know we'll score goals. You know,
We've got to be locked in defensively, and and I
(01:02:24):
think more in those dead ball uh and critical moments
of the game. So I think it's important that Rafa
and the guys, you know, get the shutout and give
us a chance to win the game, you know. And
I think that's that's what it's about and we're you know,
way back when we you know, beat Seattle in the
playoffs without taking a shot. You know, I think our
you know, Pablo and I are discussions before that game
(01:02:47):
was was just like, hey man, we got to set
the team up to give us a chance to win
the game. You know, like if we if we can
see goals here, like you know, then that's going to
make it that much harder. So we got to give
us a chance to win the game. And I think
that's the same thing with our defense down the stretch here,
is if they give us a chance to win the game,
the attacks that will come through and do their job
and win it's the game. But you know, we know
(01:03:08):
that we want to make we want to make one
goal enough and if we can score two or three,
we'll do that. But you know, we don't want to
put ourselves in positions where we have to.
Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
All right, buddy, you're the man. Appreciate the time, Good
luck on Saturday. We'll chat soon.
Speaker 8 (01:03:20):
Okay, Yeah, I appreciate it, man.
Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
George Schmid from RSL.
Speaker 1 (01:03:24):
It's been three weeks, but they're playing a match coming
up and it is a big one. If they lose
this one. The playoffs might not be in the cards
this year. Coming up Saturday, seven thirty, America First Field
again supporting KC not Thursday Night Football on the radio station.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Tonight it will be the Packers taking on the Commander.
Excuse me, my computer.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Just refreshed at lambeau Field, So we'll take it out
at six and we'll send you to coverage of Thursday
Night Football. Stay tuned for that. University of Utah on
the road at Wyoming this week. Pyus on a five,
some big twelve actions, some good college football slate. Let's
get into it. Our buddy, Max Chadwick on a Thursday
afternoon Max, Happy Thursday, buddy.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
How are we doing?
Speaker 4 (01:04:06):
How you guys doing?
Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
We're good, Thanks for the time.
Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
So, through two games, I don't know the Utah has
been challenged.
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
UCLA might stink.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Cal Poly obviously not a worthy opponent either, but it's
looked pretty good, especially with this kid under center, and
his offensive coordinator is somebody he was with at New
Mexico as well. So through two games, Max, what's your
take on the twentieth rank Utah uts?
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Yeah, you know, they're kind of where I thought they
would have been going. Into the year. I had them
ranked in my top twenty five preseason. I thought this
was one of the top teams to win the Big Twelve.
And they've looked the part so far through a couple
of games, and I think I kind of hold true
with that prediction so far.
Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
So Yeah, Devin dam Piers looked really good.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
I think the best part of this Utah team is
how dominant that offensive line is, with Spencer Fono right tackle,
Logan Lomu at either left tackle, kal Low excuse me
a left tackle. Yes, they loaded loaded offensive line, and
they've looked the part so far.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
They're in Laramie on Saturday, where they're a twenty two
point five point favorite. Texas Tech went up to Laramie
not too long ago and lost. Texas actually had the
kind of rally to beat the Cowboys. I don't anticipate
many issues for Utah, but it is a tough place
to play seven thousand plus elevation, even though we're at
elevation here in Salt Lake. So what do you make
(01:05:21):
of Utah Wyoming coming up Saturday night?
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
What should you fans want to see?
Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
Matt More of the same, you know, more of the
same of what they've showed so far is more dominant football.
I mean they dominated UCLA like you mentioned before cal
Poly the same way. You're hoping for another performance like
that in week three before a huge, huge game in
Week four between Texas Tech, who I actually had, you know,
winning the big twelve preshuson. So yeah, I think you
(01:05:46):
just want to be more of the same this week.
Speaker 1 (01:05:48):
As far as BYU goes, kind of the same deal.
Portland State obviously one of the worst teams I think
I've ever seen, and then Stanford they're just down right
now with Frank Reich as the interim Andrew Luck trying
to at that turnaround. BYU's gonna buy this week. They'll
see East Carolina before conference play. Young bear Bachmeyer they're
starting quarterback, of course, is a big story. But the
defense is real physical, real nasty. We'll see what happens
(01:06:12):
when conference play starts. But where you at with BYU
right now?
Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
Yeah, you know, it's hard to glean too watch off
their first two games because like you mentioned, it hasn't
really been the hardest competition just yet. But they're a
young team obviously. Hank Bauchmeyer bear backers sers be with.
Speaker 4 (01:06:25):
The new the quarterback at b YU.
Speaker 3 (01:06:27):
He's looked all right through two games so far. I
would say you mentioned the defense. I think it is
a really good unit defensively, but the offensive line looked
really good so far too. But yeah, Bear Bachmeyer is
still a young quarterback. You're hoping to see more out
of him as they get into some big time games
very soon.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Who else is in Tier one of the Big Twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
I think you have to throw Iowa State in the
mix right now. You know, they're one of the only
three note teams that we have in college football. They
beat Iowa and Kansas State to start the season so far.
On South Dakosta is no joke too in the SCS
at least, so three notes started for Iowa State. They're
really good. Obviously, Utah's up there. I would throw Texas
Tech up there too. Uh yeah, I think it was
some of the schools that I would throw in the
(01:07:06):
in the mix of the Big twelve right now.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
So I want to hone in more on Texas Tech.
You said they were your preseason pick to win the
Big Twelve. You know, it's I hate these early slates
where you don't learn anything.
Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
They have not been challenged at all. Don't think they're
going to be challenged by Oregon State.
Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
But what do you like most about Utah's first the
conference opponent, which will be in a couple of weeks,
and that is Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
Yeah, they really transformed that roster in the transportal this offseason.
This is a pretty good program last year. Now think
it could be a really good one this year. Their
defensive line they had they added four new starters from
the defensive line. They run number three d line in
the country and so far, yeah, it has been a
great competition. But they're one of the highest greated defensive
lines in the country right now. So that defensive line
(01:07:51):
is Utah's offensive line is one of the most must
team matchups I think they'll have in college football all year.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
All right, moving off the Big twelve for for just
a moment, is gonna have a claim to be the
best team in the country.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Look, I think Oklahoma State is dog meat this year.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
And when Dan Lanny wants to put it on you,
Dan Lanny to put it on you, Mike Gun you
didn't help himself out by saying what he said pregame,
So I don't want to overreact but my goodness, that
was impressive. Do they have a claim to potentially be
the best team in the country right now?
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
I'm more of a wait and see mode fan. I
think there. I think they should be ranking the top
five right now. I don't think as good as they
were last year. It's still very young program, but we'll see.
You know, it was a very impressive victory of Oklahoma State,
like you mentioned, But I don't know if I would
say right now the number one team in.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
The country, who's the best team in the country.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
I would probably ran Ohio State one right now, the
defending national champion. They'd beat Texas in week one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:46):
Two.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
They've looked a part so far. Obviously, their defense has
been outstanding. They've only got up seven points all year
so far through two games. So I would say Ohio
State LSH looked really impressive too. Penn State, I think
it is still obviously up there after not they have
really played a big time pony, but Patsy is really
up there. Yeah, I think it was probably three that
I would throw.
Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
Out there right now where you at With Texas after
two games, I think a lot of people figured they would,
you know, roll through and potentially and you know they
still have everything on the table. But arch Manning Texas,
Steve Sarkisian, where you're at with them through two games?
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Yeah, I'm holding study of them right now. I think
it's a really good program. They have a lot of
talent defensively. I actually think arch Banning has been better
than people have given credit for to two games too.
So yeah, I think Texas I still think it's definitely
a team to watch this year, could absolutely still be
a national title contender if they start getting it going
in SC play.
Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
Heisman Trophy favorites as of now, and do you think
there's you know, Devin dan pier is actually last check,
I think he was sixth in Vegas and odds And
obviously that would take a lot of great play from
Devin and his teammates, and Utah would have to have
something to say about the Big twelve. How many players
as of now do you feel confident saying that you
think can win the thing?
Speaker 8 (01:09:59):
A lot? A lot.
Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
I think it's a wide open race this year. Even
the guys who are the favorite in Vegas and odds
right now, like Jo Mattier, the Oklahoma quarterback has the
best odds.
Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
To win right now.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
But even he I'm kind of a little unserved about
whether or not he can win that award. So it's
still a wide, wide open Highland race, which is the
understandable for two weeks of action. But yeah, nobody's really emerged,
you I think in the Highland trop race.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
What about Devin dan Pier's chances?
Speaker 4 (01:10:26):
Yeah, I could see it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
You know, he's a guy who's obviously very good mobile
for us, who had a lot of rushing yards too.
He's been a decent passer so far. Yeah, you know,
if Utah wins the Big Twelve, which I think is
certainly possible, he could be up there. I just don't
know if you know, he or Utah will have the
season that they need to really be in that national
conversation like that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
What are your thoughts on Florida State after that horrific
season a year ago in the start they're off too?
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
Now, is there a chance that this is a team
that's legitimately good this year?
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
Yeah, definitely, they could definitely be a playoff team this year.
I think after that kind of win over Ali Obama,
we'll see the rest of the year in the eighthty schedule.
But yeah, Florida State blew me away in Week one,
and yeah, they could absolutely be a team that crashes
the playoffs this year.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
Let me go over some games this weekend for SAT.
Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
You lose Georgia Tennessee Knoxville, how do you see that
one going down?
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Very low scoring affair? You know, I was actually looking
it up earlier. Tennessee under Josh Hippels averaged fourteen points
per game against Georgia. They've never scored more than seventeen
points against the Bulldogs. I have Georgia in a very
close one, but I think this is a probably game
that both defenses will probably shine.
Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
And on Saturday, South Florida, obviously off to an incredible
start to the season, one of the big topics in
college football there in Miami take on the Hurricanes. Do
you give them a puncher's chance or do you think
this is where their run kind of comes to a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:11:46):
Of a halt.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
I thought, Miami, I think Miam's gonna win the game.
But again I thought Flora's gonna win the game last week,
got the Boys, DA's gonna win the game the week before.
So South Fara is kind of on the Cinderella run, right, now,
and you know there are seventeen and a half point
hunderdogs in two and they're seventeen and a half point
underd dogs in week three, so they might be able
to prove the oddsmakers wrong once again. And honestly, if
they beat Miami, there is a serious, serious case to
(01:12:10):
put South Florida as the number one team in the
country going into Week four considering their resume, would be easily,
in my opinion, private the bestness sport right now.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Florida LSU always quite a scene.
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
You referenced that you like LSU earlier and what's not
to like with that start that they have Florida, you know,
of course coming off their own issues to South Florida,
but down in Baton Rouge, how do you see this
one play it out?
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
I got LC winning this one too. I think there
is a chance as Florida could pull it off, but
I just think LC would. They kind of really impressed
me in Week one against Clemson. I mentioned before, Florida's
got a lot of issues right now too, especially offensively.
So yeah, I just trust Garrett nessmyern this kind of
game more than DJ Ligway right now.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Texas A and m Notre Dame South Bend. Before I
say you lose, what goes down here?
Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
Yeah, it's a massive game.
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
I've known winning in a very very close one. But
their trenches have to be a lot better. Their Their
offensive line and then defensive line got dominated by Miami
in Week one and A and M's got a really
good offensive line and a solid defensive line two. So
they got to play better Notre Dame does than the
trench if they want to win this kind of ball game.
And if Notre Dame loses it, they start off oh
to two, and you look at their schedule right now,
(01:13:20):
they don't have another ranked team on their schedule starting
off oh and two. It could be really really damaging,
if not fatal, for their for their playoff hopes.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
Thanks Max Sava, Good weekend, Thanks guys.
Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
All right, Max Chadwick live today at the utah RV

Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
I'd love to see you out here at the Bound
America expos Center, which is ninety five to seventy five.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
State Street here in Sandy.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
All right, before we catch a break, I want to
tell you about my friends at game Day men's health.
So if you haven't heard me talk about Game Day
Men's Health, I will just tell you what their services
have done for me. Okay, So, if you are a
man of a certain age, if you're aging a little
bit like we all are, father time is undefeated. Maybe
you've known notice that your libido is going down? Have
you noticed that it's harder to wake up in the
(01:15:04):
morning and drag yourself to the gym? You know, the
bargaining that we all do where we know we should
be exercising, we know we should be lifting, we know
we should be running or doing yoga, whatever it is
you like to do. Is your energy level drained? Has
it started to drain? And also is it harder to
put on muscle? Have you noticed that as you're aging
into your thirties or forties or fifties, your sixties. Well,
(01:15:24):
a couple of years ago, I had noticed all of
these things happening with me, and then I heard about
some of the products you can get a Game Day
Men's Health, and I can just tell you, you know,
if we're honest about these processes, there's no such thing
as a quick fix. If somebody's trying to sell you
a quick fix that are lying to you. That's not
how these things work. So what I've done is utilize
Game day men's health and then just compound interest good
(01:15:46):
habits over time. I am at my weight that I
was at in college, and my body fat is under
twenty percent for the first time since I'm like twenty
twenty one years old. Okay, So what I do is
I supplement testosterone. Then I utilize some of their weight
loss products that they have. Okay, so they've got semi glue, tide, rezipotite,
all the things you've heard about. But the thing is
(01:16:08):
when it comes to disasterrune supplementation and some of these
products that they have, once upon a time, they were
only for like elite athletes or celebrities because it was
super expensive and very rare to be able to get them.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
But it's different now.
Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
You know, the bros Are calling it biohacking, right, And
if you utilize some of these products, you'll find better
energy when you wake up to get yourself to the gym.
That's been the number one thing for me, because you
do have to cultivate these great habits and then do
them over time. But if you're working out without seeing results,
and if you're finding it harder to put on muscle or.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
Lose fat, biohacking is the way to go.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
I was always skeptical, but I've utilized it now for
a number of months, and I'm telling you if you
just give yourself we'll call it through the end of
Utah football season and utilize the products that they have
at Game Day Men's Health.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
I can just promise you that if you're consistent with
your habits.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
And you clean up the diet and then utilize what
have a Game Day Men's Health, you will be in
the best shape that you've been in.
Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
Because that's what happened to me. And that's all I
can tell you. So here's the deal.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
They're giving you the opportunity to go in and get
a free consultation. That's what you should do right away.
You get a free testosterone test and a consultation. So
the process is you go in, they'll draw a little
blood and then they'll go over your levels with you
and then you can understand exactly what you need to
help you know, to kind of help the process going along.
(01:17:26):
Testosterol has been a game changer for me. Like I said,
they have the weight loss products that everybody has. But
you should definitely take advantage of this deal because it's
extremely affordable to get products that once upon a time
were way too expensive.
Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
So go get your free testosterone test and consultation. And
here's the kicker.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
If you tell them that you heard me talking about this,
if you tell them that you heard me kind of
give this testimonial on the show, they're going to hook
you up with fifty percent off of your first year
of membership. So you get a free testosterone test, a
free consultation, then half off your first year membership. You
can check them out today at Game Day Men's Health
in Utah. Gamedaymenshealth dot Com is where you go, So
(01:18:08):
give them a call. You can call them or go
online Game Day Men's Health and they'll hook you up
with a free consultation of free test and they'll go
over your levels, they'll go over your labs and then
the other nice thing is that they follow up.
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
You can get on the phone with them after.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
A couple of weeks, go back in, get the blood
test and see if the levels are working. But I
can promise you you will feel your energy go up,
your libido will go up, you will lose weight, you will.
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
Gain muscle and you'll get super lean.
Speaker 1 (01:18:32):
They've got peptide therapies as well, so whether it's weight
loss therapies, peptide therapies, or even testosterone, which has been
a big game changer for me. Our friends at Game
Day Men's Health, have you hooked up all right? We
are going to bring in Kyle Bodagura, our friend from
ESPN who covers college football and a little soccer, maybe
a little US men's national team. We also have our
friends at Sports Court Handy in hand you stopped by
(01:18:54):
every Thursday. Utah Mammoth rookie camp opened up yesterday and
a lot from Bill Armstrong, their general manager coach tourney.
They have six first round picks in camp that probably
will not even play on the first team this year.
The cupboards are packed with talent, so we actually are
(01:19:14):
moving closer and closer to hockey season.
Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
We'll have pro basketball back right around the corner. Training
camp will be here. But thirteen months ago they broke
ground on their new practice facility.
Speaker 1 (01:19:25):
In Sandy, and I can tell you what man the
Spit Entertainment group, Brian and Ashley deserve a lot of
credit for this I mean, after thirteen months, there are
folks around the world are professional hockey that believe it's
among the best and not the best in all of
the national the National Hockey League.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
So the odds are in the Utah.
Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
I keep calling them the Utah Hockey Club, the Utah
manmus favor to actually make the playoffs this year. A
couple offseason additions combined with some of the young players
growing and maybe you know Ti Jagindla or others, maybe
we'll see some of these rookies crack the roster.
Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
I believe the vets report Monday.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
I think on Monday is when veteran training camp opens
for the Utah Mammoth.
Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
And then we're right around the.
Speaker 1 (01:20:06):
Corner as it pertains to the start of the season
for our local hockey club after a really fun year
last year. All right, I want to remind you the
Utah football coming up on Saturday. We'll kick off against
Wyoming at six o'clock, but our pregame coverage will begin
at two.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
We've got four hours of pregame coverage for you with Porter.
We also have Zach Moss, Trevor Riley, a caste.
Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
Of utes will be alongside Porter Porter's gonna be live
and Laramie because it is the Porter Larson Bowl. Utah
is favored by twenty two point five points to be Wyoming.
We've got a big slate ahead in the Big twelve,
not a lot of great non con matchups, and so
far the non con stuff in the Big twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
Hasn't been great. There haven't been a lot of Banner wins.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
We got Baylor beating SMU and Utah beating UCLA at
the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
So Big twelve action will start tomorrow down.
Speaker 1 (01:20:55):
At TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas, where Houston will host
colleg Rodo. Colorado is going to make a change of
quarterback technically on the slate, Kansas State Arizona not a
conference game. Okay, that's tomorrow night in Tucson. Randomly enough,
Kansas State is a favorite on the road. That doesn't
feel like the right side after losing an army at home.
(01:21:15):
But that is not a Big twelve game, even though
two Big twelve teams. It was scheduled when Arizona was
in the Pac twelve. We won't learn much about Baylor
this week. They'll probably smoke Sanford. I really want to
learn more about Texas Tech because they have not been
challenged at all, and I don't think they're going to get.
Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
A challenge in Lubbock this weekend with Oregon State.
Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
West Virginia Pittsburgh might provide some interesting storylines as Rich
Rod is trying to rebuild West Virginia football.
Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
I'm still wondering about Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (01:21:43):
They're one of those teams that feels like they're right
on the tier between one and two and maybe we'll
bounce up. But they got Northwestern Northwestern State this week,
so not a challenge for them. Iowa State, who most
people believes, well, they certainly have the best resume in the.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Big twelve so far.
Speaker 1 (01:21:57):
They're on the road against Arkansas State TC you welcomes
in Abline Christian and Arizona State welcomes in Texas State.
Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
This non con stuff has to go. It is beyond ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
Week two of the Pro football slate between the Commanders
and the Packers from lambeau Field. That comes your way
right after we say good night, so stay tuned for that.
University of Utah is on the road at Wyoming coming
up this week. They're a twenty two point five point
favorite to beat the Cowboys in Laramie. Our next guest
covers college football, does a little soccer as well for ESPN.
(01:22:29):
Always fun to chat with Kyle Bonna Gery. We'll do
that now on a Thursday. Kyle, Happy Thursday. Man, How
are we doing too good?
Speaker 4 (01:22:36):
Spence?
Speaker 9 (01:22:36):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
I'm good? I'm good. I am annoyed well for a
lot of reasons. But let's just stick with football. I
just this this non con stuff for most of these teams.
Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
Look, I get the economics, I understand why the smaller
programs need the check, but most of these games, I mean,
in the Big twelve this this week, we have a
couple of decent games, but whether it's Utah or BYU,
it's just it's really hard to actually analyze who some
of these teams are, like Texas Tech with two dog games.
Are we ever going to live in a college football
world where some of these lopsided matchups just go by
(01:23:11):
the wayside.
Speaker 10 (01:23:14):
I think for the foreseeable future they will. It is
just going to be part of the deal. But I
do think that the change in the playoff format means
there will. I mean, in theory, there could be more
high profile games in addition to those, right because I
because you're just not punished the same way for a
(01:23:34):
loss in the non conference as it used to be.
So with an automatic slot for you know, for five
conference champions then plus all the all the additional slots
in the at large now, especially if they expand it
beyond twelve, it creates a you know, a scenario where
teams can can lose a game in the non conference
(01:23:55):
and still bounce back and make the playoff, especially if
it if it's a loss to a top a top
tier team. And so I think that has me a
little bit encouraged if there's any more teams who are
willing to do it. Of course, you know a lot
of these games, most of these games were scheduled before
the playoff. You know, formats had changed, right, and so
(01:24:17):
this is just still scheduling from a you know, bygone
era to a certain extent. So it is theoretical by me,
but I do think you'll see better games. But I
you know, like you said, the financial aspect makes it
so like it's just these teams are it's always gonna
be in their best interest to get a couple give
it a couple of by games. At the start of the.
Speaker 1 (01:24:34):
Year, we did see your your old friend Paul wolf
here last week with cal Poly. He's got quite a
task on his hands to try to build that thing up.
So a couple of things here. First of all, you
guys have done a hell of a job man on
this Finding Dolores podcast.
Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
Kudos to you.
Speaker 1 (01:24:51):
And of course that features a story that we talked
about with Paul Wolfe and his mother. So let's do
a couple of different things here. Give me the with
the pod, tell people where they can find it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
And I am curious.
Speaker 1 (01:25:03):
I would imagine through your conversations with Paul you talked
to him about this new project project of his trying
to build cal Poly football up. So tell us kind
of you know, some of the contexts with those conversations
as well.
Speaker 10 (01:25:16):
Yeah, so it's been it's been a really cool run.
The podcast is. We have six episodes out, they'll be
nine in total. It's a nine episode run. It's been
a really you know, Candlely, it has been an incredible
week for us. We were featured by Apple podcast as
like a kind of a noteworthy podcast to listen to
within the true crime like narrative serious space, and we
actually jumped right now. I think in the Apple podcast app.
(01:25:40):
We're the number three ranked series in the world among series.
We climbed to biz as number eleven in all podcasts
regardless of format yesterday. So it's it's been a little
bit overwhelming to see that sort of reaction. We had
no idea that it would resonate so much, but you know,
so I guess that's my pitch to go listen and
people are liking it, at least they seem to be.
(01:26:03):
And then and then Paul's, yeah, like you said, he's
got a tough project. He's he's been a count Poli
for a while. He was there as an assistant under
bow balled before, you know, taking over the head coach
from when bow left to go to Arizona State. And
it's never a place that has really had it much
success on the football field. But I but I do
think they have some reason for optimism there. They they're
(01:26:23):
in the final stages of completing this John Madden facility
football facility. I saw Paul down at Count Poly a
few years ago and the football building in a building
in air quotes here was it was a trailer near
the state like a literal like you know, you know,
it is what it is. It was it was a trailer.
It's kind of a permanent one, but like nothing special
(01:26:45):
at all. And the fact that they are building like
a real football building, I think it's going to be
a much more intriguing place for you know, for for
better players to go visit. He's got a kind of
an older staff now, a lot of experience in that
building now, so he's he's optimistic about where it's going
to go. But it's, yeah, it's it's a tough it's
(01:27:06):
a tough place to to build and win just because
there's not a whole lot of tradition there. It's you know,
it's not a big population based in California. There are
a high academic standards just can hurt and help. Of course,
n I l in this day and age, and if
you have anyone who does, who performs at a high
level at the SCS level, they're probably going to jump
for some sort of nil deal at a higher level.
(01:27:28):
They just don't have the money at the SCL level
to be competitive there.
Speaker 4 (01:27:32):
But yeah, like it's it's.
Speaker 10 (01:27:33):
Been a kind of a rough run for him there
so far. But I think I think there's reason to
believe that he could he could get them headed in
the right direction. When he was at Eastern Washington years ago.
You know, he had that thing really humming. So he's
done it before. A tough time at WSU, but I'm
confident he'll he'll have things going going there, going pretty
well there eventually.
Speaker 1 (01:27:51):
And of course a tough ask for cal Poly to
roll into rice Ecles and make it competitive against a
team that looks like a Kyle Whitningham coach team. Again, Kyle,
that's kind of the the takeaway around here physical disciplines.
UCLA might stink and cal Poly obviously is cal Poly.
We'll see what happens against Wyoming. Laramie can be a
(01:28:12):
tricky place to play. They got Texas Tech a couple
of years ago, and Texas actually was pretty uncomfortable for
about two and a half quarters against the Cowboys. Utah
is a twenty two point five point favorite. But what
are your takeaways through two games with these Utah uths.
Speaker 10 (01:28:28):
Yeah, so, I mean you can't really take much from
the cal Poly game, right, It's just like the talent
gap was too significant for anything to really matter. And
then UCLA went out and didn't look very good against
you know, v either they till behind twenty three zero
to UNLV made it close in the end, but the
game was really never in jeopardy. So UCLA is not good.
Cal Poly is just a different level of football, and
(01:28:50):
so you know, it's hard to it's hard to know, right.
I think everything in Utah has done indicates it's a
very good team. I mean, and we talked about it.
I think against CCLA too, like they did exactly what
you're supposed to do against a team that you're better than.
They ended early left, no doubt it was. It was
lopsided start to finish, and ucl I saw as players
(01:29:11):
I mean, granted it's not a very good team for
the power for but it's still a team with a
lot of talent, a lot of guys who can play,
were highly recruited, those sort of things, and it didn't
and you know, there wasn't much of a difference between
how competitive the game was and them and cal PAULI
really gonna.
Speaker 4 (01:29:28):
Look at it that way.
Speaker 10 (01:29:29):
So yeah, look, I think we'll find I think this
week it will be more of the same. I mean, Wyoming,
you know, certainly has the history, like you said, of
of given better teams a game. Fact that this is
in in Laramie certainly makes it a little bit more interesting.
I mean, obviously it won't matter for the use like
it does some of the other opponents that go in there.
But you know, it's it's it's still a road game,
(01:29:51):
and you know you have a puncher's chance. Like all
that is just a caveat before saying like, I still
think Utah wins like easily and should win easily, And
at the end of that game will probably be asking
the same questions that we're asking now what to make
of them? We played the Wyoming what.
Speaker 4 (01:30:07):
Does it mean?
Speaker 10 (01:30:08):
Probably probably not a whole lot. And if it's a
close game, then it works the other way, right that, well,
maybe the other team, maybe the first two games were
a little bit you know, didn't provide as much context
as we've got or or or something like that.
Speaker 4 (01:30:24):
Right, So, yeah, well.
Speaker 10 (01:30:25):
Everything is going good, and I think it's really if
you look at if you looked at you know, Utah's schedule, right,
why I just had it up, Who's who's after Wyoming?
It takes a while before they get challenged, if I remember.
Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
Yeah, they their first conference game is Texas Tech, so
that should be interesting.
Speaker 10 (01:30:41):
Yeah, So that Yeah, so I had that run. So yeah,
Texas Tech for me is interesting because the budget they
have and building that roster. You know, we'll see what
you know, thirty forty whatever million dollars gets you in
the big twelve. And so I think that that's the game.
We will really have a great idea of what the
what the expectation should be the rest of us with.
Speaker 1 (01:30:58):
Yeah, and the difficult part about Tech, I mean, you
know the Cody Campbell oil money is what it is
in sixty mil I guess is the figure people are
floating around but Arkansas Pine Bluff, Kent State, Like, what
are we doing?
Speaker 2 (01:31:11):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
Like they hung they hung sixty seven on Arkansas Pine Bluff,
sixty two on Kent State, and then they see Oregon
State at home coming up on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
I know you've covered that program for a long long time.
Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Will Oregon State even make that somewhat interesting? Or is
this gonna be another game where Tech just hangs sixty
on a bad team.
Speaker 10 (01:31:34):
I don't Yeah, I don't think Oregon State's any good
this year. So and like to be fair to scheduling,
like when you say to Oregon State probably allowed for
them to be somewhat competitive right at the time, and
so yeah, but that being said, it doesn't change what
it means this year and that organ State is just
not good.
Speaker 4 (01:31:51):
I mean, believing the PAC twelve thing and.
Speaker 10 (01:31:53):
The budget changes that creates them obviously means that Oregon
State's competing at a different tier now as well. And
so it's just like it is, it is what it is.
It's not a revealing opponent protectas Tech either. So it's
almost like, yeah, you know, both of these two teams
who will open I guess you know, open up the
conference against each other, they kind of both skated through
with against teams that they're you know, significantly better than
(01:32:17):
assuming the why I'm in organ State go the way
that you think they will. So yeah, I kind of
agree with the mystery match there on the twentieth b YU.
Speaker 1 (01:32:28):
I mean, look, I've said this probably fifteen times this week.
It's not Utah's fault the UCLA might stink, and it's
not BYU's fault that Stanford might stink. I mean, you
schedule these games years in advance, then you hope that
it's a decent test or challenge for you. But BYU
smokes Portland State sixty nine zero and then Stanford could
not move with the football twenty seven to three. It
(01:32:49):
appears that Klate has an excellent defense once again. It's funny, Kyle,
I've noticed that people are starting to cover BYU and
talk about BYU in the same way they've talked to
about Utahn your wid for the past couple of decades.
Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
Like it's a stout defense. They're fast, they're physical. I
think that defense is going to keep them in a
lot of games.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
Offense installed quite a bit against Stanford in the red
zone that had opportunities to put a lot of points
on the board twenty seven to three. It was never
in dow They cover the spread. But where you at
with BYU right now? Through two games, we won't learn anything.
They're on a bye this week and then they're at
East Carolina. Their first conference game is in Boulder against Colorado.
Maybe that'll be somewhat interesting, but just kind of same
(01:33:31):
general question. What do you think about BYU so far?
Speaker 10 (01:33:34):
No, it's it's like a mirror image, right, It's like
they played well, they dominated their opponents, But also, what
does it mean? We don't have a great sense. I
watched quite a bit of the Stanford game and Stamfords
offense is just brutal. It's it's they're not going to
score many points this year against anyone and so but
but again they did, you did what it was supposed
(01:33:55):
to do. It was suffocating and left no doubt I was.
Speaker 4 (01:34:00):
But but I came out of that.
Speaker 10 (01:34:01):
Game a little bit more concerned about the offense than
I was going in because the Stanford doesn't have a
good defense either. And do I like you said, they stalled.
They generally didn't impress against Stanford on that side of
the ball, And so I would say, like if you're
looking stock up, stock down, you know, stock a little
(01:34:21):
bit down coming to that one, just because the quality
of Stanford this year. But at the same time, it's
like I was, I was in our like communication channel
with ESPN Stats and Research group trying to figure out
the last time a team started out scoring one hundred
points without allowing a point, because like it looked like
BYU was on track to do that. So when you
(01:34:43):
have that sort of you know, stat during a game
to like see how historically relevant it is, like it's
hard to be it's hard to be too critical of
what they're doing. At the same time. So yeah, like
we're gonna have to wait a few weeks. East Carolina
next next games is probably more of the same. And
then you know, and like you said, Colorado, you know, Colorado,
(01:35:03):
We'll see how they end up being. I think Colorado
could be okay, average, not going to be great. I
think they'll you know, challenge for a Bowl game, but
that's no guarantee. You want that sort of gear. And
then West Virginia is bad after that. So five and
oh going into Arizona, Arizona looks good. Look, it looks
better than last year at least, But like it's not
too early to circle the Holy War because I think
(01:35:24):
you know, you're looking at you know five and one
six and oh six and oh six and oh type
of battle next month. So should that that's really a
lot of fun As all this, I.
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
Agree with you. I think there's a good chance both
these teams remain clean.
Speaker 1 (01:35:36):
I mean, Utah will be challenged in a different way
than BYU b Yu the beginning of b.
Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
Yu's conference slate.
Speaker 1 (01:35:43):
As you just outlined, UH should be something they can
manage their way through. Utah will get tech as we
talked about coming up in two weeks for their conference opener,
Fox Big Noon will be here and then they're at
West Virginia.
Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
Then they get Arizona State at home.
Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
Let me ask you about where you're at with Arizona State,
who did not look good in Week one and then
lost to potentially the worst team in the SEC or
one of in week two when Sam Levitt has looked shaky,
the footwork hasn't been great. They were a lot of
people's preseason pick to win the Big Twelve. I'm not
saying they still cannot do that, but that will be
one of the challenges you tasked to fake face prior
(01:36:18):
to BYU.
Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
Where yat currently, Kyle with Arizona State?
Speaker 10 (01:36:22):
So I think the big question about ASU coming into
years like what does it look like offensively in a
post cam Scattado era? Right, we haven't seen many players
in college football the last you know, call it five
years who were as important to an offense as he was,
Like catching the ball out of the backfield, running the ball,
I mean the all purpose yards. I forget what it
(01:36:43):
is off the top of my head, but it was like, no,
well over two thousand all purpose yards and he was
everything for them, and and Sam Levitt benefited from having
him in the backfield in a way that probably wasn't
clear until until this past week. Right, they looked bad,
and you know, maybe that's because Mississippi State has taken
(01:37:03):
a significant step forward this year. That's certainly possible. I mean,
there is a lot of money down there, even for
the teams at the bottom of that conference to be competitive,
and so that's certainly plausible as we try to figure
out how to place the necessary context on these games.
But yeah, not not impressive at all with what AFC
has done. That doesn't mean that's a sure thing win.
I think it's still that's that's still a toss up, right.
(01:37:25):
I Mean, Kenny Dillingham is a very very good coach.
I have a ton of respect for the job he's
done there and and like he'll have him ready, he'll
address you know, he'll address deficiencies and try to figure
things out. But yeah, Levitt has certainly and I wrote
this somewhere on the site this week that you know,
he was kind of one of those dark ones Heisman
candidates coming into the year based on all the success
he had a year ago.
Speaker 4 (01:37:45):
And that's that's over.
Speaker 10 (01:37:46):
Like he's been so he's been below mediocre to start
the year, so he's really got to he's got to
kind of re earn the respect that you're in last year,
just because it doesn't look the same without Scataboo, you know,
the ball off too.
Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
You know, continuing along the lines with the theme of
I don't know a rip about this conference. Didn't a
year ago as we all thought, you know, the top
would be the bottom, the bottom would be the top.
Is the Big Twelve full?
Speaker 7 (01:38:14):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Well, I won't say full. Does the Big Twelve have.
Speaker 1 (01:38:16):
I don't know, seven or eight really good teams are
gonna beat up on each other? Does the Big Twelve
have one or two good teams that should rise up
at the end, or is it just a bunch of
average football teams beating up on each other?
Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
Honestly, don't know after two or three weeks.
Speaker 10 (01:38:30):
Yeah, And I think a lot of it is, like
I don't think anyone really knows because, like we were
saying before, like a lot of the good teams have
just not played very good teams and so there's not
a lot of good measuring stick games yet to really
answer those questions about it, Like, I think there's gonna
be some good teams though, I mean I think six
or seven of these teams will be like pretty good,
pretty good teams. I mean, there's good coaches in this league.
There's a lot of talent in this league. You know,
(01:38:52):
I Iowa State as up to a good start. They've
historically been good under Campbell. Look, I mean I think
you know the rise of Texas Tech. Baylor had a
good win last week. So I mean there's enough teams
to be intrigued about what it could be. But it's
still I mean, I feel like watching and covering the
Big twelve now, it's so similar to what the PAC
twelve was for a long the time, with a.
Speaker 4 (01:39:12):
Lot of the parody.
Speaker 10 (01:39:13):
Right, maybe they don't have that elite one or two
teams at the top, but you know, there could be
you know, six ranked teams at any given time, you know,
beyond that elite tier at the top, And that seems
like it's in play. Don't mean it doesn't mean that's
for sure going to be the case, but like that
kind of feels like where it's settling into for me.
Speaker 1 (01:39:33):
So, look, it feels like and I'm not trying to
be disrespectful because Mike Gundhi certainly has made Oklahoma State
football relevant playing days, coaching days as well.
Speaker 2 (01:39:45):
I don't know that I have seen an ass kicking
like that. And Dan Lanning. When Dan Lanning wants to
put an on you, is Dion learned Dan Lanny's going
to put an on you? Takeaways from that debacle for
Oklahoma State?
Speaker 1 (01:39:57):
Did it tell you more about Oregon or did it
tell you more more about the date of the program
for Oklahoma State?
Speaker 10 (01:40:04):
Yeah, I thought it was pretty revealing for both. But
I think it's it's probably means the end for Gundy
in Stillwater. I just don't like you lose by sixty
six points. A colleague of mine, Jake Trotter, had like
the best note of the weekend, I thought in college
football is that Oklahoma has not had a loss that
bad since like nineteen o seven, which is the same
(01:40:27):
year that Oklahoma gained statehood in the United States. Right
place to place context on how historically embarrassing that was
for that program. It's the worst loss in program history,
and there's no other way to look at it. It
was embarrassing on all levels. You just don't you don't
(01:40:47):
bounce back from that. I don't think you can. They've
completely lost the respect of the top tier of college
football at this point. I mean, and they were really
bad last year too, So this isn't like this has
just come out of nowhere just being so off the rails.
I mean, they lost I believe the nine game at
the final nine games last year, right they were, they
were win lists in the conference. They went oh to nine,
(01:41:10):
and now it doesn't look like they're going to be
competitive this year. You know, it's if last week's game
against worries any sort of indication that puts to come.
Speaker 1 (01:41:18):
The College Football Playoff Committee a year ago was pretty
emphatic about their message with this conference that their belief
is it's not a very good football conference.
Speaker 2 (01:41:27):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:41:27):
Any scenario in your mind that the Big twelve can
get two teams in this year, I mean it would
it would take quite a miracle, I think.
Speaker 10 (01:41:34):
So I I I'm gonna push them out a little
bit because I think that it really comes down to
you can easily get two teams in, right cause if
because because of the automatic bid. Right so last year,
I think, what what did be Why you start nine
to oh or ten?
Speaker 1 (01:41:47):
And oh yeah they got got by Kansas. Yeah, yeah,
that's right.
Speaker 10 (01:41:51):
Not so so if they started if they were if
they got to like if they went eleven in one
right as opposed to ten and two and got to
the title game and then lost, and then they were However,
you know, if they're say, say they got to what
they got through the season with one loss, and now
you're eleven and two as the as the runner up,
(01:42:13):
I think they might might have had a shot at
that point. But I think, like, so as long as
your favorite loses, if you have like a top like
a top eight type favorite going into the conference style
again and they lose, I still think that you're kind
of positioning the way when you can still get in.
But it needs something like that to happen. I think
(01:42:33):
is probably how I was looking at because I remember
looking late in the year last year, like at those scenarios,
and there was like a lot of scenarios I thought
up up up until in November where I thought the
conference could get too, could get two teams, and it
just didn't play out in in and of those those ways.
And so yeah, if you there's a number of peans
that could put together on eleven and one type season
(01:42:56):
and be like, you know, who knows how good they
really are. So yeah, look, I wouldn't, right, I wouldn't
close the door on getting multiple teams yet. Is it
possibly even likely that it will be one? Sure of course,
but I would certainly. I think it's way too early
to have the conversation about it on getting one. There's
just there's just too many premutations out there.
Speaker 1 (01:43:14):
I constantly push back whenever somebody starts to pound the
USC drum. I mean, I just feel like for forever,
and I mean, you know, obviously Pete Carroll had a
legendary run there, but it seems like every year I
hear this, you know, the the buzz about USC and
the transfers and the offense looking different, and maybe they've
(01:43:35):
got the defense figured it out, figured it out. So far,
they do lead college football. They're the best scoring offense
in college football through a couple of different games. Again,
Missouri State, Georgia Southern. Let's be very clear, but Lincoln
Riley has found a way to run the ball this year.
You know, at Oklahoma he led the country in yards
per rush attempt. I mean, I think a lot of
(01:43:55):
people saw Baker and Kyler and Jalen Hurts, and you know,
just assume it's all they do is throw it around
the field. Again, we have to say this with every
single team not tested yet. But are you buying the
early hype surrounding USC.
Speaker 10 (01:44:10):
Not yet. It's it's just they they've just been They've
just underwhelmed for enough time now that they no longer
deserve the benefit.
Speaker 7 (01:44:19):
Of the doubt.
Speaker 10 (01:44:20):
And I think for a long time the benefit of
that had been earned, right, Like the type of recruits
they brought in, the type you know, the history of
the success, all that stuff. It's it's USC, right, It's
still there's They're still always going to have the potential
to be in the leade team at college football. They
just they just check all the boxes why they could
be good. But yeah, the two teams they played are
(01:44:40):
you know, they have a lighter schedule than the UYU
at this point, right, And so it doesn't make any
sense to praise USC for where they're at. I mean
to be Clay Hilton, the guy who basically helped run
the program into the ground, you know, like who's now
coaching at Georgia Southern. And we're not going to find
out much about SC for a couple more games and
pretty produced not one of the better teams in the
(01:45:02):
Big Ten. I think they have Michigan State after that
at home, so again bottom tier for now Michigan State
in the Big Ten. And so I got the actually
have to schedule up in you know, Illinois after that.
Illinois are really good team. So I think it will
have to wait until you know, the end of the
month Illinois to really have a good feeling about USC.
But you just look, when you're as mediocre as they
(01:45:25):
have been, and not only mediocre, but like trending in
the wrong direction, I think I'm gonna have.
Speaker 4 (01:45:30):
To look it up to confirm this.
Speaker 10 (01:45:31):
But like they've gotten I believe they've gotten worse every
year since the King has got there. They had the
good first year with with with Kleble's Heisman Trophy and
all that, but but every year since then they've gotten
progressively worse. And so when that's your trajectory over the
course of three years, yeah, you don't. Look, there's just
no reason to assume anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:45:49):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (01:45:49):
You got to earn it last thing before.
Speaker 1 (01:45:52):
So you lose Oklahoma with a bit of a statement,
and like Utah, they grab an offensive coordinator and a
quarterback who are familiar with each other, of course, Ben
Arbuckle and John Mattier.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
Yeah, you know that was was it?
Speaker 1 (01:46:04):
You know, obviously it was Zoo Combo is Oklahoma football back.
I mean, is it time to acknowledge that this is
a team that needs to be looked at pretty seriously?
Speaker 4 (01:46:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (01:46:13):
I mean I think they deserve to be looked at
seriously because the defense looks really good. Michigan is who
who knows the mission will be. But I do think
Michigan has a good defense, and they did move the
ball and then they look pretty good midsire. I mean,
I love Mitya. I lost a lot a lot of him.
I love Zoo and he's just a lot of fun
to watch in general. So even if they're not being
for real, they're going to be worth turning in for
(01:46:35):
it just because he's just you know, he runs it,
he throws it, just makes terrible decisions and great decisions
and you get the whole experience with him. But the combination,
right of bringing a cut recordinator with a quarterback, it's
it's proven now at this point. Utah is doing it.
This year, Oklahoma's doing it. It's a really quick way
to rectify an offense, and you know, Oklahoma went to
(01:46:58):
a proven way to do that. So I think they're
I mean, they're obviously much better than they had been
in the past few years. But their schedule. I was
actually looking at it when they were playing Michigan.
Speaker 4 (01:47:10):
It's it's brutal.
Speaker 10 (01:47:11):
I mean, I think if they have ranked opponents in
you know, I think the entire last half of the season,
if not, if not the last seven games.
Speaker 5 (01:47:18):
So.
Speaker 10 (01:47:20):
They're gonna lose a few. I have no doubt about that.
But it doesn't mean that they're not capable of competing
with the best in the sport.
Speaker 1 (01:47:27):
Right now, is our guy, Diego Luna Lock? We're nine
months away, Kyle real quick for saw you lose? Is
our is our guy Diego Luna A lock to.
Speaker 2 (01:47:35):
Make the US men's national team roster for the World Cup.
Speaker 10 (01:47:38):
He's I mean, I wouldn't say Lock quite yet, but
he but he is. He It feels it feels more
likely than not. I didn't watch it either the South
three or Japan game, so I need to go back
and check those out. But you know, his trajectory is
one of the best in American soccer. And now to
go from getting cut by the Earthquakes Academy several years ago,
to USL to Salt Lake. Now now the fact that
(01:48:01):
we're even having this discussion about Iziel lock or not
kind of speak, you know, just says it, all right,
So he's again like maybe he's like John Mattierra. He's
just so much fun to watch and just adds an
element that the team doesn't really have. That makes me
kind of root for his success.
Speaker 2 (01:48:16):
All Right, Cole, appreciate the time, man, enjoy the games.
We'll chat soon, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:48:21):
Thanks Ben Kyle Bondager our buddy from ESPN who stops
by on a weekly basis. You can get him on
social media and his new podcast is excellent. You find
him at Bonnagur at ESPN. All Right, Live today at
the Mountain America Expost Center, ninety five seventy five State Street.
It is the Utah RV Super Show twenty twenty five style,
(01:48:41):
and we have a celebrity. We have a very important person,
Brett Parris, who's the owner of Paris RV. Brett, Happy Thursday, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
How are you hey? Great?
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
Thanks for having me, well, thanks for stopping by. So
what do you want our listeners to know? Obviously a
bunch of vendors here. But what do you guys have
going on at Paris RV.
Speaker 9 (01:48:56):
You know, I personally have one hundred and thirty seven
RVs in here and every single thing you can think of,
things as small as little a frame traiders, tear drops,
tent traders, big toy haulers, little toy haulers, travel traders,
fifth wills, Class C motor homes, b vans, great big
diesel pushers, even destination traders where you can take them
and set them on a lot and kind of be
(01:49:18):
kind of a vacation home. I have four of those
in here, so a variety of everything you can think
of under one roof, lit up.
Speaker 2 (01:49:24):
And ready to roll. One hundred and twenty seven thirty seven,
one hundred and thirty seven. How do you get all
those in? How long does it take to get all
of them in here?
Speaker 9 (01:49:30):
We pretty much got them all in on Monday. We
started at eight o'clock in the morning and we were
done by about five o'clock. We've you know, we got
a lot of trucks, obviously a lot of guys with
forklifts that pull them in and out, and we've done
shows now for many many many years and kind of
got it down.
Speaker 2 (01:49:43):
Yes, you have any special deals for the show specifically,
you know.
Speaker 9 (01:49:47):
There is a variety of things. Obviously we're talking about
a lot of different brands, but pretty much every brand,
and not just me. All dealers are going to have
some factory assistance to make this a special buying event.
Along with that, pretty again, not all of them, but
the majority of financial institutions will have a discount on
the rate if you buy at the show, so you
can get a discount on the rate. You can get
(01:50:07):
a discount on the RV. Also, it's too you know,
the end of twenty twenty five vehicles they're all on
close out for the most part. I know all of
mine are. I'm pretty sure everybody else is too. So
a great way to get a super nice, brand new
RV with full warranty, maybe at the price of a
used trader and get a good rate.
Speaker 1 (01:50:24):
What is it about the RV experience that you like
to to, you know, kind of sell their customers for
people that maybe aren't educated or maybe a little bit
wary to kind of launch into that lifestyle.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
What's the best thing about traveling in an RV?
Speaker 9 (01:50:37):
You know, so you know, I think all travel is
pretty good, right, It's a lot of fun. But boy,
we got a we're super lucky here in our backyard.
We've got, you know, five national parks, We've got seven
National monuments, We've got.
Speaker 2 (01:50:49):
Forty six state parks.
Speaker 9 (01:50:50):
That's a lot of places you could You could say,
I'm just going to see the parks in Utah, and
that's going to take you a while. The best thing
about doing it in an RV is I feel like
you have freedom. You know, you have that thing sitting
on the side of your house loaded, ready to go.
I keep mine plugged in with the fridge on. If
all of a sudden on a Friday night, I got
to make a decision. Do I want to sit here
and watch reruns or do I want to grab my
(01:51:11):
travel trailer and head down to one of our state parks,
one of our national parks and maybe hike, go sight seeing,
go see what there is right here close to home.
That is that's a real nice vacation for your family
at a relatively low price.
Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
For sure.
Speaker 1 (01:51:26):
Brat before I sit you loose for our listeners that
maybe can't stop by where your other locations?
Speaker 4 (01:51:32):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:51:32):
Can people get more information? Yeah. So, Paris RV has
four locations.
Speaker 9 (01:51:35):
There's three here in Utah, two in Salt Lake County,
one in Utah County, and then there's one in Southeast
Idaho and Pocatelo very nice.
Speaker 1 (01:51:42):
Well, Hey, great to see you. Thanks to you, Thanks
for your time today. I appreciate it. Bred Paris, the
owner of Paris RV. Come on by and say hi.

In just a couple of minutes, it is nine to eleven.
It is the anniversary of nine to eleven. It's a
weird thing to say, the anniversary of such a dark day.
(01:52:55):
I haven't really mentioned anything about it today. It certainly
affected me and my family personally. I had a high
school friend that perished in the attack. I had an
AAU teammate named Tyler Uligan who perished in the attack.
There is a foundation for Tyler, and my high school
buddy Brad Fetcher was in the North Tower as well.
(01:53:15):
So always a day to kind of ponder, and certainly
with the weight of the past forty eight hours, I
just wanted to leave with a message that I just
hope everybody's doing okay.
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
I don't really know what to say.
Speaker 1 (01:53:26):
The Charlie Kirk shooting has really left a lot of
people with a lot of raw emotions, and the fact
that it happened in or in Utah, of all things,
just really really sad. I'm not one to get into
the one side of the other when it comes to
something like this. It is a tragedy where a husband
and a father has been shot and killed in the
most brutal ways, and it happened in our state, which
(01:53:46):
is outed an extra layer. So just hope everybody's doing okay.
Certainly been a heavy forty eight hours for all of
us and have felt that weight today. So just want
to send a lot of love to our community and
hope we can find a way to heal and not
continue to be as dis as we have been.
Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
The political violence has been really spiking.
Speaker 1 (01:54:04):
In our country and the fact that it's hit us
in our own backyard is left a real heavyweight for
a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (01:54:10):
So love everybody that listens to the show.
Speaker 1 (01:54:12):
You guys are like family to me, and just want
to send that message out to all of you on
this Thursday.
Speaker 2 (01:54:17):
That's felt a lot of heavy for a.
Speaker 1 (01:54:18):
Lot of people, and I'll leave it at that all right, Porter,
Before we get out of here, how are we starting
out our weekend the right way.

riding around the corner. So excited for that.

the US Ryder Cup guys are gonna warm up. All right,
