Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, I'm Jerry Sandusky, voice of the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Got a right man.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
And you're listening to the Extra Point Show.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Welcome to the Extra Point Show, everybody. My name is Vasilios.
And look it's the start of the twenty twenty five
NFL season. We are just a few days out from
actual factual football and the Ravens are going to be
kicking off their season Sunday night against Buffalo Bills. And

(00:38):
before we get to that, though, I do have to
open an old wound for sure, let's hear how the
Ravens season ended in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Isaiah Likely comes in motion, sets in the slot to
the right for the tie the two point conversion. Lamar
takes a snap roll to the right, throws complete h
drop it Mark Andrews hit him in their hands, and
Mark Andrews dropped it as he fell into the end zone.
One of the more shorthanded players the Ravens in Ravens history,

(01:17):
dropped it, hitting right in the hands. Lamar Jackson's two
point conversion pass hit Mark Andrews in their hands as
he fell into the end zone. But he fell without
the ball, and there is the final snap of the night,
the Buffalo Bills will beat the Ravens twenty seven to
twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, that was that was not fun.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
And then to help me talk about the upcoming matchup,
that little divisional rematch, Ryan taping from Upstate NY dot com.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Ryan, how are you today, brother?

Speaker 5 (01:51):
Hey, I am doing great. And yeah, that was quite
the moment in that game, you know, covering it, watching
it live, and it looked like this was going to
be a tide game. Obviously a bad break for the
Ravens in that one after Lamar Jackson company worked so
hard to get back into that game.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Yeah, it's just I know a lot of folks still
think about it. I mean, the conditions were wet and
it was cold, and Mark Andrews said, oh my gloves
were wet, and that's why I didn't bring it in.
But I've seen him make that catch so many times
in maybe even worse conditions than that, and I think,
I mean, that game would have been awesome to see

(02:32):
in overtime, especially between those two quarterbacks. Who I mean,
some people are still debating whether or not Lamar Jackson
deserve to win that MVP or if it was rightfully
Josh Allen's I mean, do.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
You have any any specific bias there? Who do you
think deserved it more?

Speaker 1 (02:47):
So?

Speaker 5 (02:48):
You know, I don't want it to sound like a bias,
but I think it came down to who did more
with less, and Josh Allen had a lot less talent
around him when you really look at it. I know Andrews,
you know, obviously had that drop in the playoff game,
but I love the one two punch that the Ravens
have at tight end. Bateman really stepped up his game
last year. Obviously at Derrick Henry the lines nose slouch

(03:11):
and you know Lamar's obviously a special player too. But
Josh Allen did this with a wide receiver group last year,
where Keon Coleman who was never the same after the
injury that he suffered against the Dolphins in the regular season,
Kol Shakir being their main weapon, mccollins, Dalton kincaid who
was dealing with a knee injury all year, and that

(03:34):
list goes on. He did have James Cook, who was
a legitimate weapon last year, but it came down to
more with less For me, obviously, either would have been
a legitimate winner in my eyes, and.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
We'll get to see who does who wins this next
game come Sunday evening. And I mean, we know what
happened last season, but what are the some changes that
the Bills have made to their roster this season to
kind of reload and get them back to that position
so maybe they don't lose in the AFC Championship game.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
So offensively, they added another weapon for Allen and Joshua Palmer.
And you know, Palmer to the outside might not seem
like much of a weapon. He never seemed to climb
the depth chart with the Chargers. They had a lot
of talent there over the years. They'll be he had
a good summer when he was out there on the field,
looked very fast, looked like another asset for this team.

(04:26):
Kean Coleman took a big step in a year or
two at least from what we saw in the preseason
slash training camp. Made a ton of plays to this team.
You know, those are the big things on offense. But defensively,
they go out and they sign Joey Bosa a in
free agency to kind of help with that pass rush
that's been Buffalo's biggest weakness over the last four or

(04:48):
five years. In my opinion, they haven't been able to
get consistent pressure with their front four. So they're hoping
Boss can stay healthy, which is a big if. Obviously
that's been an issue for him in the last few years.
The Bills managed his reps pretty well this summer when
he was out there at training camp. I love what
I saw from the pass rush Arsenal. The Bills have
two really good tackles and Dean Dawkins and Spencer Brown,

(05:10):
and I saw Bosa get some wins against both of
those guys, so that was encouraging. They went very young
in terms of, you know, some contributors that they expect
to step up early on the defensive line. TJ. Sanders
was the second round pick. He's going to be a
big part of their defensive line rotation. Dian Walker has
been a pleasant surprise for a round four pick. And

(05:33):
then their first round pick was Max Harriston, who will
not suit up in this game. He's on the ir
to start the year. That's the biggest question mark for
this game is who's going to start opposite Christian Benford.
Because they go out and they signed Trey White and
free agency, who obviously was with the Ravens last year,
but he suffered an injury at practice a few weeks back,
and now you know, it's kind of a it's been

(05:56):
mysterious from the Bill's side of things, while he's rehabbing's
working hard. We don't have the specifics of the injury.
They're hoping he's ready for Week one, but that's a
big question.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Mark, definitely.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
And I'm just in looking at the numbers from last
year because obviously the Bills and the Ravens faced each
other twice in their ability to stop the run, adding
Joey Bosa, who isn't really a run stuff for per
se more definitely more of a of a pass rusher.
Do you think that the that they're more inclined now
to be able to stop the run than they were

(06:31):
when they gave up two hundred and seventy one rushing
yards in that first matchup back in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
Yeah, I think they're in a similar spot. The linebackers
obviously are really good as well, Matt Milano, Terrell Bernard.
They like the depth that they have there, So I
do like the front that they have and that they're
going to have in this matchup. But the problem for
the Bills going into Week one, is this in the
playoff game in my opinions, because obviously their game plan

(06:59):
was to to stop the run, stop Derrick Henry by
all means possible, and they did a really good job
of that. Now that allowed Lamar Jackson, though, to have
more opportunities in the passing game. And you know, in
the second half of that game especially, he was a
dealing He was making some great plays. He obviously the
interception early, the fumble that he just kind of dropped

(07:20):
as he was stumbling, some mistakes that ultimately, you know,
proved to be maybe the differences in that game. But
I don't know if the Bills can go in and
into this matchup and say we're going to sell out,
you know, stop Derrick Henry by all means, because as
I just mentioned, we don't know about that cornerback opposite,
Christian Benford. Benford's as good as anyone in this business

(07:42):
at cornerback one. But at cornerback two, if it's not
Trey White.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Who is it, right?

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (07:47):
JaMarcus Ingram, a former UDFA who's been in the system
for a few years. He's always been solid when called upon,
but it's it's been more in a depth roll than
anything else. A rookie Dorian Strong, who was a Day
three pick. I like his fit in the system, but
that's asking a lot of a cornerback there. And then
the safeties as well did not have a great summer.

(08:08):
Taylor rat miss time with injury, Cole Bishop missed pretty
much all of training camp with injury. Worked his way
back in the last two preseason games. He didn't have
the greatest summer, and you know that's what they're rolling
out at safety as well.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
And when it comes to James Gilk got paid this offseason.
We got a touch on that he had a monster
year in terms of getting scoring touchdowns last season. Is
that something that you think he can replicate in twenty
twenty five.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
No, just because you know, if you look at his
first two seasons, he didn't score a ton of touchdowns.
He was very productive as a runner and a pass catcher,
but to have eighteen total touchdowns in the regular season,
that's just tough for any player to replicate. So do
I think he can have double digits?

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (08:58):
I think he can end up with ten to twelve
total touchdowns this year, which would still be very good
for the running back position. I just think that the
way the Bills approach the running back position, you're gonna
see an uptick in terms of his overall snaps, especially
after this contract. But they're still going to lean on
Ray Davis. They're still going to lean on Ty Johnson.
They love Johnson is their third down back. He can

(09:19):
block very well, he can catch the ball in the backfield,
run between the tackles of the outside, So those guys
are still going to have a role in this offense
as well.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Now, if you had to pick something on the Ravens
to be most frightened of that's not named Lamar Jackson
on Sunday Night, what do you think, what would you
be most afraid of? Besides I mean, is it Derek Henry?

Speaker 5 (09:44):
I mean, Henry on offense is going to always be
the choice until he shows signs of slowing down. I
think that anyone to go with anything else would be
kind of foolish there. But I'd also go just with
the Ravens defense as a whole too. As good as
Josh Allen is. I love that Ravens defense. Kyle Hamilton's unbelievable.

(10:05):
I love the draft picks that they had this year.
So I think they have some young talent and weapons
that they're adding to an already really good defense. So
you know, the defense as a whole, The Bills are
going to have to come out and prove that Kean
Coleman's summer was legitimate. He's gonna have to make some
big plays in this game. Cool Shaki is coming off
of a high ankle spring. He's supposed to suit up

(10:27):
in this game, but will he be at one hundred percent?
Will he be completely effective? Because that's Ben Josh Allen's
go to guy. Kincaid has a lot of questions that
he needs to answer as well. So Bill's offensive weapons
need to step up in this matchup because the Ravens
defense is as legitimate as it comes.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, we saw what they did in the preseason. Now,
given it was just the preseason, so you got to
take that with a grain of salt, but seeing what
second year coordinator Zach Or is able to do with
all that talent. I mean, we got what twelve sacks
of Kyle van Noy last year, and and I mean
Malachi Starks, the rookie out of Georgia coming in and

(11:08):
he's gonna take over that center field role so Kyle
Hamilton can play closer to the line of scrimmage. It sucks, though,
because we you saw our Darius Washington, the standout safety
from last year.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
He suffered a.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Season ending injury, so that kind of thrust Starks into
maybe a more.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Impactful role when it when it.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
If you, if you're looking at x's and o's on defense,
well who Who's I'm gonna ask you the same question
that I asked you on offense.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Who's the guy?

Speaker 3 (11:37):
I mean, I guess other than Kyle Hamilton and bro
Kwan Smith.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
I guess that that scare you the most.

Speaker 5 (11:44):
I said I would have gone with if I couldn't go.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
I'm giving loaded questions right now.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
Gosh, I don't. I just feel like they're very good
at even just scheming pressure. Doesn't matter who they have
up front, So you could go with anyone on that
D line as well. Buffalo Is O line is returning
their death is great. That's a battle I'm looking forward
to a lot, is the O line versus Baltimore's D
line as well. But yeah, I mean, I'm gonna have

(12:10):
to say Smith, I know you said I couldn't really
use them, but I can't go with Hamilton. I guess
that's the roud I'm gonna go.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Yeah, you know, I can't give you any of the
easy answers, man, I know, I got to make you
think a little bit. But no, it's gonna be a
really interesting game for sure. If you had to put
a score prediction to this, I'm not sure if you're
big into score predictions, but if you had to put
one to it, what would you say?

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Yeah, I actually have the Ravens winning this one because
of the question marks and the Bill's secondary going into
this game, I don't think they're going to try to
sell the run as much as they did in the
playoff game, but they're still going to be, you know,
doing their very best to manipulate it make them more
one dimensional. But Lamar Jackson is just such a good passer,
such a great athlete. I just think that I like

(12:59):
where their rosters a little bit more than the Bills
right now with the question marks in their secondary, so
twenty seven to twenty four Ravens.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
That I don't know whether that's a good thing or
a bad thing that you have the Ravens winning the games.
But I think I'm with you on that one. At
least the Ravens I think are ready to get their
get back. I mean, I would like to see them
get their get back, but I think I think they're
kind of licking their chops waiting for this matchup. Just

(13:27):
improvements everywhere on the team. I'm curious to see if
what Lamar Jackson is going to look like this year.
Apparently he's lost even more weight than he did prior
to last season, so he might just be faster. And
if he's faster again, that just might spell doom for
the league.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
But Ryan Talbot, thank you so much. And Tuck you
just tell everybody where they can find you.

Speaker 5 (13:51):

Speaker 2 (14:04):
And we'll catch you maybe after the game. I'll pick
your brain about what happened.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Sounds good.
