God, shut up sho. Helloeveryone, and welcome once again to the
(00:38):
One, the Only The Fans Show, episode four hundred and eighty nine.
I'm your host as always, theteam man, Richard Teman and the man
in the other box. Well, every mother's day, he is the gift
to his mother. It's my man, father Malk Malcolm McCoy. How you
doing, brother, Oh? No, great man, what better gift?
(01:00):
No, I'm great, I'm great, but always always a pleasure. Man.
Are you? You strike me asthe time because you have siblings,
right, you have a brother?Very are you? Guys? Twins just
close in age, like I'm notreally really close. We used to have
one older and two younger, andthe three of the nearest siblings we all
(01:22):
used to get confused as triplets. But yeah, no, no, twins
are triplets, just just really closeage. Yeah. See that. That's
a middle child thing where you're like, I am the gift, Like I'm
I'm not the oldest that was supposedto set the standards for us all and
I'm not the youngest. That's screwingit all up. That's it. That's
(01:42):
it. How was your mother's day? Your mom doing well? You guys
have a good time. She's doinggreat. Man. Yeah, she so
she's like one of the most lowmaintenance moms like I've met. So,
I mean luckily she she asked usto actually hold off on taking her out
the day of because I mean, she doesn't like being out and about excessively.
(02:04):
So I was like, hey,you guy told me twice. Man,
we just gonna take her out sometimethis week. Can get to it,
man. So but she's doing already, everyone's doing doing good. So
man, it's a blessing forsual.Yeah, Mother's Day for me has gotten
complicated. Well, well I havein laws, right, so I have
two extra moms on that side. But also for my mom personally, I
(02:27):
think it's been like god four yearsnow. So I have a sister not
a lot of people know, nineyears older than me. She hates me.
She hates the fact that I wasborn quite literally, because I mean,
you do the math at ages ninethrough eighteen, when you're in do
activities and figuring stuff out middle school, high school, there was a baby
(02:50):
slash toddler that your parents had totake care of at home, and so
my parents, they weren't able toget around do a whole bunch of her
stuff as they were taking care ofme. It's like, okay, like
cry about it. I'm sorry forbeing born. But you know, well
we'll go ahead and get a littlepersonal here. So for those that don't
know, my wife and I,we can't have kids. We've been through
some infertility stuff. So my sister, like I said, nine years older,
(03:15):
she has had four kids. Sothat's four grandkids, which I mean
dividamin have that makes up for likeif I had to and then she had
to, you know, spreads itpretty evenly. But something happened. We
don't know what, but something happenedlike four years ago where my sister just
stopped talking to my mom and dadentirely and doesn't let her kids see them.
(03:39):
And so it breaks my mom's heartbecause like I've seen, I've witnessed
emotional, physical, abusive parents, right, and she is not like that
at all. Like my dad.I think every son is scared of their
dad at certain points in their lifebecause it's like you wait till you're father
(04:00):
gets home kind of thing. Sowe had that, but my mom not
even anywhere close to that. Sothe fact that my sister will not give
us a reason as to why shehas taken this action, and then my
mom hasn't gotten to see her grandkidsfor four years. Now breaks my heart
because Mother's Day rolls around and I'mthe only one that calls her because my
(04:21):
sister has written us out of herlife. So I make the joke.
I'm like an only child now andmy sister who is just going to be
this crazy bitch, I guess, and her husband who's just gonna go along
with it like the kind of cowardthat he is. It's whatever. I
mean, nobody's family is perfect, but like, what the hell? Just
yeah, man, do that forsure? For sure? Man, I'm
(04:44):
definitely sorry to hear that, brother, But I mean, if it's anything
like anybody else's family, you know, we run into things and have little
road bumps and roadblocks and stuff likethat. Hopefully she gets to the point
where she can kind of get overwhatever pseudo beef there is between the rest
of the family. I mean, because I've seen it before and my family
(05:04):
as well, so you know,it's just one of those things. Man,
you gotta you gotta try to,I guess, be the glue between
the two parties. But you know, families, like you said, it's
it's tough, man like. Familiesare just they're different. Sometimes I have
friends that are more family than actualfamily is what you do. You know,
(05:27):
you've been on teams where the playersand teammates are more family than family
is. So it's kind of beenone of those lifestyles for me nine years.
Difference, you're not going to havea whole hell of a lot in
common anyway, but you know,it's it's what it is. She's gonna
have to live with it at theend of the day, not me.
So that's that's personal story time. You guys get a little window into my
life. But anyway, so itwas, you know, still good day.
(05:50):
We celebrate Dan Joe with Mother's Daybecause you know, we're pet parents
and that's like this is closer. We're gonna get right now and then get
my mom a call and hopefully we'llbe able to connect and visit them sometime
down the road. But that wasour weekend. We're not gonna do a
good, bad, and funny becausewe're at the midway point of the season,
so we kind of want to devotesome time and energy to maybe some
mid season awards. So we're doingkind of a light open here, but
(06:15):
I did want to say I've beenmeaning to say this last two episodes.
I'm so proud of Malcolm because hehas been embracing the role of co host,
not just by booking some really goodguests like we've had, but also
he's been embracing the chaos. Therewas some content a few weeks ago involving
the Sharks and some things said aboutthe NAL and the level of competition,
(06:38):
and Malcolm shared it and said thisis going to ruffle some feathers, but
it's one hundred percent accurate, andI was like, Oh, he's embracing
it. I love it. It'sbecause that's part of the thing, like
you have to be prepared to defendyour points of view and what you talk
about on a platform like this becausethere's a common section and people are gonna,
you know, find out how toget a hold of you, and
(06:59):
h are hitting you up and belike, Hey that thing you said,
I don't agree with it, Okay. Power rankings every week, that's always
so much fun. But the AFLcontinues to be the circus that it is.
The meme that I created over theweekend, which I'll throw up right
now, is that horse illustration youhave to google horse drawing meme. And
(07:23):
so there was the AFL is Backhashtag and all the preseason hype and then
literally weeks one through two were like, okay, you had Albany and Orlando
and then kind of Nashville and thenand then the now, which is like,
I think the Myth just announced thatthey're ceasing operations today. So there's
another team that bites the dust, and I think we're down to like five
(07:44):
or six teams that are still they'retrying really for how long I don't know.
So that's news for the other leaguesaround the world. But Quad City
had a number one play on thetop ten, so I think that's four
now this season for the IFL,which is right, really good for Quad
City. I'm pretty sure Sports Centerused my screen gram because if you watch,
(08:05):
there's a particular way I crop myscreen grabs for highlights and stuff,
and there's little subtleties where you couldbe like that looks like a team man
or fan show screen grabs. Soyou know, we'll boost the confidence there
for myself. And then sap Lynch'sback with Tucson, which we will talk
about. So let's go ahead thenand dive in two Week number nine,
(08:28):
we had a couple of Friday gamesand a full slate on another Super Saturday,
So let's go ahead and break downthat action. We started off Friday
with Quad City and Sue Falls.I thought that Sue Falls was you know,
now that they had won, thatthey were It was the first of
a few at least Quad City lookedlike a team kind of without an identity.
(08:50):
They go in with Irwin as theirquarterback, not ericson. So I
mean, I'm like, this can'tget any worse for Quad City, But
sure enough, Jordan I've been toldis how you pronounce his last name?
And then Vander the two vis avictory for Quad City and the steam Wheelers
man. They took it to him. Final score fifty six forty nine.
(09:11):
There were a few spots in thisgame that you could maybe point out as
like the difference maker, but ultimatelyQuad City just had to hold Zue Falls
out of the end zone and justmake it a really bad day for Lorenzo
Brown, which I mean, hehad two picks, and sometimes all you
need is one. So Sue Fallsone in six. Now Quad City three
(09:33):
and four and in their conference that'syou need them. You need you need
all the wins you can get, because we're going to talk about that.
It's getting ugly on that side ofthings. But Mike Irwin fourteen to twenty
two, one hundred and seventy eightyards, four touchdowns through the air,
no interceptions, and one rushing touchdown. Hey, our man dunk he got
an I int in that one,one of those two. So how about
(09:54):
that? Yeah, and look atlook at mighty mighty Athlet return it too,
if I might. No, thatwas a great play. I was.
I was as I was watching, you know, I was just jumping
off the wall when I saw that. Quad City continues there, back and
forth, back and forth, win, loss, win, loss. This
one might be the turning point forthem. I know it's only their third
(10:18):
win, but it was a winthey really needed, you know, like
for confidence, if not anything. So we'll see if that is the actual
case for them in the coming weeks. And then the other Friday game was
another thriller San Diego the strike Forcein the Vegas Nighthawks sixty four to sixty
eight Nighthawks. So they stay perfect. Nate Davis had another Nate Davis game.
(10:41):
He can't play defense. I mean, I'm sure they probably discussed it
at this point. But seventeen totwenty seven for two thirteen, six touchdowns
alone, interception, But Jerome manJohnson for Vegas twelve to seventeen, one
hundred and forty nine yards, threetouchdowns through the air, two rushing tds.
But Wimbush, there's a name thatwe haven't seen pop up just yet.
(11:05):
Three rushing touchdowns. So we we'vebeen talking for a majority of the
season that some of these offenses thatare functioning really well are doing it with
a true blue run game, andso you know, it wasn't all Jerome
Johnson. So that's something to keepan eye on as we watch Vegas and
how long they can stay perfect.Right now, seven in a row pretty
(11:26):
tough to do at this league.Your thought from that game, because this
one we both really thought could goeither way. Yeah, yeah, for
sure, And I mean I guesson paper it shouldn't be a surprise because
you know, a lot of timesthe undefeated team is undefeated for a reason.
But like you said, I mean, it's it could have went either
way. You know, San Diegohas a great roster offense and defense,
(11:52):
so it was just one of thosegames. You know, it comes down
to a few plays, and likeyou said, Nate, at this point,
I'm sure he was probably itching throws, help me online up at safety
or something. But you know,he played a hell of a game,
and uh, that's that's all youcan do, is a quarterback. You
just got to kind of rely onyour defense to you know, hold you
down. And unfortunately it was justa difference between you know, a couple
(12:13):
of plays and and uh, youknow Vegas took advantage of it. Yeah,
it is Vegas. I feel likethere's so much, so many question
marks around them, if that's whatyou want to say. But they continue
to win. I mean, andthey beat teams with winning records to get
those wins. I mean, it'sno longer a question of did they have
(12:35):
an easy schedule like they're they're gettingagainst teams that they're going to need to
get wins against in order to getone of those top seats. So right
now they're the standard in the league, playing and simple the night, Yes,
Saturday then Saturday. Wolf. Ifthere was ever a bigger slap in
the face, uh for me andMilk, well we'll let you know.
But there there's times to support yourfriends and be like, yeah, you
(12:58):
guys can do it, and thenthere's times where you should be like,
you know what, we'll get younext, next go round. And Jackson
Frisco I did message Brian, Isaid, hey man, rough game,
but you know we still we stilllove you guys, we still believe in
you. And and he was justyou know, he brushed it off.
But the final score there thirty threesixty eight. Frisco statement win or a
(13:22):
message to the rest of the leaguebecause we were kind of wandering after that
San Antonio loss, like okay, like it's this are maybe it's na L
teams or maybe it's that they're overlookingwith bad records, but not not the
case. So one in six andsix and one. I don't know how
Frisco's doing it right now. Theircoach is one of the top three candidates
(13:45):
for Coach of the Year because thiswas not Edwards last week was not Edwards
either. This was Harrington who hadthree rushing touchdowns and Carter had four rushing
touchdowns. So their ground game clearlyvery physical, very well round did.
But they had eight rushing touchdowns total. I mean, that's that's just insane
(14:05):
like that. You're not gonna winagainst the team that is grinding you out
on the ground. You're just notIt doesn't matter what level of football you're
at. But Peyton to TDS twopicks and then two rushing touchdowns. So
a pretty average day. But youcan't give up any against the team like
Frisco. Not at all, notat all, especially with that defense they
(14:26):
get, you know, Charles Williamson the line, you got Roy c
a linebacker. You know, thoseguys are gonna make you pay if you
don't put points on the board everytime, every drive. So I mean
they did just that, and uh, like you said, hats off to
Frisco's coaching staff. Man. Itjust it's kind of it's kind of a
testament to your program if you cannot play your reigning MVP and still get
(14:52):
the same result. Man, they'restill running to score up on Gas and
I mean it's their their minus theirstar player. So yeah, absolutely,
Man, the defense has been great. You mentioned see, He's been phenomenal
all season long. So then wehad Tulsa and Green Bay another game that
we thought could be close, butultimately we gave the nod to Tulsa.
(15:13):
Just because coach Jones is one ofthe most well prepared coaches in any league
that we've ever you know, witnessed. But twenty two forty two twenty point
difference in this one. Tulsa scoredthe first touchdown, but then after that
it was like green Bay just controlledit. And I don't even know how.
Miler had another great game twelve totwenty for one to sixty one,
three touchdowns through the air, twoon the ground, no picks Harry Ballard
(15:37):
three of those receiving touchdowns, andthen their defense had four broken up passes,
one force fumble, and two sacks. So clearly a very well rounded
team that I think a lot ofmore people should start to take notice of.
But you have Tulsa three and fourand green Bay now at five and
two. So here here's my takeon this game at this point of the
(15:58):
season. And correct me if ifyou have a different point of view on
this, would love your thoughts, mouth, But this is a game where
if Tulsa doesn't get into the playoffs, it's gonna be because of this game,
right, But if green Bay doesn'tget into the playoffs, I don't
think it's gonna be because of thisgame, Like, I don't think this
game for green Bay has the sameeffect as this game does for Tulsa,
(16:19):
if that makes sense. No,No, I agree one hundred percent.
So I'd be lying if I saidI know exactly how the playoff rank and
like breakdown and rankings go. Butone thing I do know for sure is
that you only have the luxury ofkind of not having games matter, like
within the first three weeks. Youknow, from that point forward, it's
(16:42):
almost like every win. Ideally youwant to win every game, but it
becomes that much more pivotal when youstart looking at the playoff picture. And
I mean it's it's kind of funnytalking about playoffs, you know, week
three and week four, but that'sthe that's the goal, you know.
It just makes it that much moredifficult if you don't win those key games,
(17:03):
especially in the division. So thatbrings us to Massachusetts and Iowa.
We're actually going to talk to KyleKing here, quarterback for Iowa, after
we get done breaking down week numbernine. But thirty four forty two was
your final Iowa back to back winsafter starting zero to five, mass five
and two, So they're not intoo much of hot water at the moment,
(17:26):
but something to maybe pay attention tobecause this is the second loss to
a subpar team as far as recordwise goes. I'm not saying that Iowa
subpar, but it's like you lookat records at this point in the season
and see a five and one teamagainst a one in five team, your
your mind automatically says, okay,so pending some catastrophic injury, which Benefield
(17:47):
did play. So you had Kingsixteen to twenty six one thirty one,
two tds through the air, Benefieldseventeen and twenty six one ninety three,
two touchdowns through the air, nopicks, and two on the grind.
So it's not that either one reallygave up anything. It was just they
had to fight, literally for everypoint that they got because there was a
(18:08):
really deuce that got called back andthat would have tied the game, and
then there was something else that happenedthat was a little bit of a controversial
call. But I mean, theythey really had to get work for every
single point that they got in thiswin. So they improved two and five
and they will not be a byeweek for teams anymore, I don't think.
(18:29):
But that was that was a reallyfun game to watch, just because
there's not like a single moment. It was just like you had to mass
had no business losing that game, and then somehow they did, so you
have to watch it all the waythrough. And that brings us to San
Antonio and Duke City. Oh man, so close, so close, fifty
six fifty three. San Antonio improvesthe three and four, Duke City remains
(18:55):
the lone winless team. Castronova hadanother Sam castron of a day, twenty
four to twenty nine, two andforty three yards, six touchdowns, no
picks, one rushing touchdown at thatwhich has been a rare sighting four different
receivers and then poor Lekyle, oneof the most automatic, probably top three
(19:15):
kickers in the entire league, chanceto tie up as time expires and it's
wide left, like such a raremiss, Like you almost had to like
go back and be like, wait, was that real? Yeah? It
was. So. I felt terriblefor Ernesto. He's a friend of mine,
and I just he prides himself somuch on the mechanics and the art
(19:36):
of kicking, and I just knowit tore him apart. But malk this
was your game. To watch asfar as you have a history with both
teams. Tell us about the newman in Duke City. All right,
I heard one of the commentators saying, this may be what Duke City was
looking for. Is no, maybehe certainly is man Joe Mack. So
(20:00):
he's he's a guy. He's reallya guy. He was signed with the
team. I want to say,a couple of weeks back, and you
know, choosing to start him provedto be the difference maker or that's just
say the fire start that this teamneeded. Man, I mean he ended
the game. I want to sayfour passing touchdowns for I mean to Russian,
(20:21):
really really really, like I said, really a difference maker. Man.
He just he just seems like oneof those guys who not only can
walk we'll talk to talk, be'swalking the wall too, because he brings
the team up around him. AndI saw this kind of watching body language.
Guys they play. They're playing alot different than they were just a
couple of weeks ago. So man, he's I'm excited to see what he
(20:45):
does going forward. For sure,I think they're close to their first win,
closer than they've ever been, atleast now that they finally have their
guy that they believe at quarterbacks. So could be next week, could be
the week after. I would lovethat, and it's because of who they
play that week. But you know, it's it's good to see it because
(21:07):
you don't want to see a teambe miserable all season long. You've been
rooms like that before. It's notfun at all, nothing at all.
So it's good to have that. But that will bring us to the last
two games bay Area. The Pantherstaken on the Northern Arizona Wranglers. Now
they're really close. Game thirty nine, thirty six is your final bay Area
(21:32):
back in the win column. Stilljust the lone loss on the season as
four and three, though they've sufferedback to back losses. But I still
think they're one of the top,you know, teams in the league right
now as far as if you havethem on your schedule, be warned because
they're not going to be an easybeat. But Simpson, dude, again
with that run game stuff. Hehad two reception touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.
(21:55):
And there's been a few games wherewe've recapped Bay Area where his name
has come. He's a very wellrounded athlete. Neil was back under center,
three touchdowns for him. So Imean, Nas, it's you just
got to finish, right, allsixty minutes of football against teams like Vegas,
like Bay Area, even San Diego. This is the point in the
(22:17):
season where you know you you gotto take points, yes, but at
the same time, know your opponentand take maybe as many points as you
can get, which is a nicesegue into the last game, Arizona against
Tucson Arizona Rivals, and it wasthirty nine thirty two Arizona. So Arizona
(22:40):
improves two, four and three, now finally above five hundred back to back
wins. Tucson unfortunately drops to oneand five. Malik Mitchell was back.
But man, here's what I meanby what I was saying for the last
game is that this game started threenothing twoson and I really think that that
was a stake by Billy Back andthe Sugar Skulls because you have to know
(23:03):
who you're playing as far as like, Okay, we've scored three, we're
ahead for now. But if theyget a touchdown, now, even though
it's only a four point game,we're chasing points. And I don't think
Arizona, regardless if it's Kettle orLorenzo Brown or Sneed at quarterback, whoever
it is, They're not a teamthat you want to play from behind.
(23:25):
You just don't want to get yourselfinto that situation because then from that point
on, you know, I thinkArizona settled for maybe one field goal the
entire first half, where Tucson settledfor two and Arizona had scored I think
two touchdowns. So now you reallyare chasing points. So I believe in
taking the points where you can toa certain extent, and I think that
(23:47):
really comes down to who your opponentis. If you're playing in Arizona,
you can't. I almost would haverather seen nothing nothing instead of three nothing
because it just, I don't know, it felt like things just were never
in two sons favor despite having athree nothing lead for however long they did.
And see, I have to asa defensive minded guy, I have
(24:08):
to halfway agree with you, becauseI mean, I see, you know,
it's a it's a chess match atthe end of the day. For
coaches, you know, the nameof the game is to stay ahead at
all points. So it's a it'sa calculated risk on their point on their
part to just go with the fieldgoal. I assume that Tucsons coaching staff
(24:29):
probably thought that that would give themthe momentum that they needed going forward.
But I certainly do feel like, you know, in a situation like that,
you have to know, like yousaid, your opponent opponent and and
doing so, just just going forthe field goal is not enough in that
situation, because that's not enough toI guess put a to put a fork
(24:52):
in the team to to kind oftake the air out of them. You
got to show them that you're boldenough to trust all phases of the ball
just just sometimes take that risk.Man. So I hear you, I
understand exactly what Tucson was trying todo. What else will hear you too?
So I'm kind of I'm kind ofon offense as far as that,
Like I'm not knocking it. Likea field goal is a field goal,
(25:14):
and it was you know, agood one, right It's it wasn't like
they got held the five and nowyou have to you have to settle,
as they say, for a fieldgoal. It was like, you know,
they took a chance to get pointsand they got them. But I
just I'm watching this game, andit just felt really like, even with
a lead so early, that theyjust were chasing Arizona the whole game.
(25:37):
Malik Mitchell looked a little off. It's been a while since he was back
in the fold, so he waskind of missing some guys receivers. They
were a little bit out of sync. But they do have sap Lynch now,
so that ads their run game, which we both have talked about how
important having a solid, legitimate rungame is. So so, I don't
know, we're at the midway pointof the season now we do kind of
(25:57):
want to touch on our opinion asfar as who's in the lead for awards,
maybe in our opinion anyway. Sowe've got MVP, Offensive Player of
the Year, Defensive Player, andthen the surprise of the year breakout Player
of the Year player to watch, and then of course you know the teams
(26:18):
that are still in it and theteams that are maybe just kidding themselves.
So Offensive Player of the Year thisone's pretty easy for me. I've got
Castronova and Davis the one and twoleaders in the league right now for offense
as far as passing, But reallyI think it's got to be Sam almost,
but it would be a tough callfor me. What do you think
(26:41):
as far as for an offensive player? No, see, I agree with
one of them for sure. Isay Cash or No, it's got to
be in the running right now.If not, then somebody is crazy.
But I also I also put JeromeJohnson up there. Man. I mean,
I feel like, you know,it's not to be drawn to his
(27:02):
play, especially with them still beingundefeated at this point and just watching them.
You know, he has his lapseswhere he kind of you kind of
question what he's doing as far aslike his reads or you know, just
holding the ball too long, whateverthe case may be. But I mean,
for the most part, I definitelythink he's the real deal. He's
(27:22):
been tested now several times up untilthis point, so you know, I
think he's certainly in that running aswell. Defensive player of the Year.
The only name that really came upwas Kinkaid. I mean, he's been
for Bay Area. I feel liketheir defense is so good that if they
could have just settled on quarterback andnot had whatever was going on with Neil
(27:45):
and Harper for that stretch of time, that they would be undefeated, not
just one loss. But I thinkit's their defense that is single handedly kept
them in every single game, especiallythe close ones, and he's been at
the forefront of it. So kinkid for me my defensive pick. Yeah
no, And that's the That's literallythe first name that came to mind when
(28:06):
I thought about it, because youknow, most of the time he's at
the forefront of those uh, thosethose tough games, those nail biers.
He's the one making a difference.I think more I want to say,
and I could be I could certainlybe wrong, but I'll go out on
the limit saying that. I thinkover half of the games he led the
(28:26):
team in tackles because I mean,he's one of those hard nose safeties that
come up and they make plays.I think I've said this before too,
but I heard it from a commentator. They said he's the perfect version of
a new age old school safety. And then we move on to surprise of
the season so far, which couldbe a player or a team or anything.
(28:48):
I put down Green Bay in Vegas. I did not have Vegas Peg
to be the lone remaining undefeated team, especially now two weeks after the last
undefeated team that was in the groupwith them fell, but that's been a
big surprise. I think you lookat their coaching staff and their roster,
and hindsight, you know you'd belike, oh yeah, absolutely, they'd
(29:11):
be like top three or you know, five teams, but undefeated. I
don't know if I would have beeneven that confident looking around at the roster
and the coaching staff. But GreenBay I figured probably at best five hundred.
But the fact that they're five andtwo and second in their conference is
absolutely insane in a good way.I like it, and I much like
(29:34):
yourself, I have too as well. The first one, you know,
I had to apologist or all theviewers for being so short sighted. But
you know, I was very impressedwith Duke City's performance this past week.
You know, they they haven't beendoing good. Obviously, it's no secret
they're still winless, but this pastweekend it's I think they have something to
(29:57):
look forward to with with their newquarterback. You know, I'm rocking my
Duke City year now. I'm hoping. I'm hoping that I was. I
was waiting to break out the merchandiseuntil they get their first win. But
let's say I'll wear it first, and maybe that's the key to it.
They don't get their win out,so I got my fingers cross. But
(30:18):
sure, but I think that youknow, the fact that they gave san
Antonio such a run for their moneyis is just unheard of at this point
because you know, everybody pretty muchincluding myself, kind of wrote them off.
It's just like, you know,a team that kind of, you
know, just just a tune upa tune up team, should I say?
(30:41):
And uh, you know, Ithink at this point they kind of
have some, like I said, some things to look forward to. Breakout
player. This is hard for mebecause I don't know who's a true rookie
in the league. But I willsay you and I can probably agree that
mccorker has been, you know, because we know he's a rookie, but
he has been definitely a breakout playerjust with what he's been able to do
special teams and offense wise. Vanderhas been a very good player as well.
(31:07):
I think a player to watch isgoing to be Jordan VC, the
guy who had the highlight reel nightwith Quad City, and then of course
Duke City's quarterback will be a playerto watch. So what about for you
for those two? Yeah? Man, I got a swinging by the Duke
City on this one. Like yousaid, Joe Mancuso is my player to
watch because I think, you know, he having gotten his first start and
(31:32):
having such a great performance. Ithink he just has nothing but upsad for
that team. So I'm willing tobet that he's going to have a pretty
pretty standout season going forward. Allright, So those are our players to
watch, breakout player, and thenwe got both sides for Player of the
Year and then the surprise, sothe MVP. This one I'm saving for
(31:53):
last because I honestly don't know. And football typically, at least the trend
over the last decade has been thatit's a quarterback award, But I don't
believe that it's the same and indoorball, and this year, honestly,
looking around at the teams, Idon't think it can be. Like I
think if at the end of theseason, if it goes to a quarterback,
(32:15):
it's because you're just trying to likeput that position up on a pedestal
at that point, right you're playingfavorite to that to that guy. But
it could be one of the runningbacks, it could be a receiver,
could be a defensive guy. ButOkay, if we're gonna for argument's sake,
stick to quarterback like who because Neilhasn't played every game for bay Area,
(32:38):
but there's still one of the topthree teams. And then Jerome Johnson,
you know, he's been swapped outfor like a half a game or
a game. And then you haveJones who's played every game for Northern Arizona,
but they're you know, not oneof like the top three teams right
now San Diego again, you knowthey're four and three. But Nate Davis
(33:00):
is he even when he has likethe better stats than the winning team,
It's like, okay, so hedid everything that he could. Clearly he's
not the problem or the reason fortheir success. So I put down Kincaid
from Bay Area. I put downCarter from Frisco because you can't even say
Edwards now because Harrington has played thelast two games for the Fighters. Yeah,
(33:23):
I do have Jerome Johnson just forlike the sake of having a quarterback
from one of the top three teamsin there. But is it Max Miler?
Like I mean, these are theseare the names I put out there,
dude, because this is honestly likewhere we're at as far as Okay,
who's been the guy on that teamwith a winning record or a perfect
(33:45):
record or one loss whatever that theteam like he is their ex factor,
you know. And those are thenames I wrote down. Okay, okay,
and I respect it, I likeit, and that I mean,
you can't really argue with that logic. My whole take on league MVP,
it's pretty much if that player wassuspended or if he was you know,
(34:08):
god forbid injured, how how muchof an impact would he have on not
being present on that team? Andwhen I think about that, it comes
down to three main guys. Youknow, not to say that these teams
wouldn't play good football without said player, but I think they're just that good
(34:29):
and that that important to their teamthat they would you know, the team
would be would be forced to makesome serious changes if they're not around.
And uh, those guys are NateDavis, like you said, and playing
lights out. You can't really replacethat veteran leadership that he has played in
the NFL. It's been an IFLveteran for years. You know, still
(34:53):
holds the single season touchdown record asa quarterback. And you know it's not
there are other good quarterbacks on thatteam especially, but you know it's not
you can't really you can't really replacethat. So I think Nate is probably
number one A running I say,Nate AJ three and Mike Jones for sure.
(35:15):
That is our mid season awards orat least our candidates for awards at
this point and kind of our criteria, what we think. And so that
was also Week nine. All right, folks, joining us this week a
first time guest once again, threein a row. You love to see
it, especially for reasons like this. He's celebrating back to back wins after
(35:37):
starting out on five. Quarterback ofthe Iowa Barnstormers, Kyle King, mister
King, welcome to the program. How are you. I'm great, man.
I appreciate you having me excited aboutthe opportunity to talk a little football.
Yeah, man, I love theBarnstormers. Have been there several times.
The fans are always great, theatmosphere is always great. The team
has been great. But this seasonoff to a bit of a slow start.
(36:00):
But now you guys have done itback to back, and I mean
I'm watching this game against you guysin mass twenty one to three. At
one point the Pirates had no businesslosing that. But then halftime, it
comes and goes third quarter, youget the ball, you score, you
stop them, you score again, and then it's I don't know, it
(36:20):
was like that was that was allyou guys needed because the rest of the
game is history. So you know, walk me through this. As far
as you guys get the first winof the season, what was that feeling
like, especially you know, youbeing the quarterback and this team was such
a rich history in the league. Finally getting into the win column. You
know, my first two starts,we went to green Bay. No was
(36:40):
it Arizona home first or green Bay? Either way, we lost a tough
one to Arizona forty nine to fortyseven, I believe it was. And
then we go to Green Bay,which is a team right now that is
playing really good football, and losea seven point game. And those are
my first two starts of the season, so you know, those were those
were tough ones. We come homeversus Quad City and finally get a win
that's much needed, even though westill kind of had a sour taste in
(37:04):
our mouth because we were up reallybig in that game, like twenty eight
something in the second half and dangnear blew it. So you know,
that's about as nicely as I cansay it, so kind of still still
had a kind of a salty tastein our mouth, but was great to
get on the win board. Andthen you get a team like Mask coming
into town, which has already beatus up pretty good one time this year.
To get them to come into townand get that get that win was
(37:25):
it was big. We started zeroto five and four of those games were
one possession games. So and itdoesn't matter because it's professional football. A
loss is a loss and there's nomoral victories. But we've been feeling,
you know, the whole year thatwere two plays away every game from being
five and one or four and one, and it was frustrating not be able
(37:45):
to get over that hump. AndI finally able to get over that hump.
These last two weeks has been prettybig. Yeah, it was a
huge game. Like I just watchedit again recently because I wanted to pinpoint
we've been able to see a lotof these upsets or close games. There's
been a single moment, and thisone there wasn't really but it was you
know, you're down twenty one threeand then halftime and then you get the
(38:06):
ball back, you score, andthen you hold them off and then you
score again. But I mean thiswas a comeback where correct me if I'm
wrong, Like it did not comeeasy, Like you guys, there was
the ruly deuce that got called back, there was a pass that got broken
up that it should have been completed. I mean you you guys had to
fight for literally every point in thisgame. So you know, I guess
(38:28):
the big question is like, obviouslyyou're the guy now, and it's been
really great for you despite the lossesto Arizona and in very close games.
But you know what's been the differencemaker between one score games on the wrong
side and one score games on theright side. We early in the year
we really struggled stop in the run, and I thought we did a really
(38:50):
good job against Massachusetts of stopped inthe run. And a lot of that
is our d line is getting better. You know, none of our d
line had played arena football before,so it's different than eleven man, it
is. I mean, it's assimple as that. And we got our
Mike linebacker back, which is whenI believe when he's healthy, he's If
he's not the best linebacker in theleague. He's a top three linebacker in
the league. Ian he's been,he's really good. The first game of
(39:12):
the year he had a high inklesprain and missed like the next three weeks,
so we've we really missed that andbeing able to stop the run has
really helped our defense, I think. And as far as offense goes,
like, you know, we gotdown twenty one to three, but you
look at the first drive. Twoof those players were my fault. Had
a bad pass on one and misreadanother. So it's really it should never
have been twenty one to three. We should have done a better job on
(39:35):
offense coming out right to play football. I thought we came out a little
flat and kind of stopped ourselves. You know, I don't think Mass.
I will say mass had a reallygood game plan. They really switched coverages
and did I mean they were droppinga lot of defensive linemen into coverage,
which is something I haven't seen muchin this league. So they did.
It took me a couple drive toadjust to that, and I thought they
had a really good game plan. But I don't think us beating them as
(39:58):
a fluke, if that makes sense. I think we are a good team.
We've got a new weapon at receiver. Brought him in and that I
mean that he had two touchdowns wherewe had a bunch of rookies that have
never played in this league, andthis being that was Game seven. I
believe that we're starting to learn alittle bit of the nuances of the game.
And I really think we can geton a little run here and you
(40:19):
know, make it make a strongpush for the playoffs. You no,
I agree fully. And one thingI've always said every season with football is
that or really any sport, Iguess is that bad teams don't stay bad
like you've got. I mean, the good teams are gonna obviously make the
improvements that they can. But pendinginjuries, you know, it doesn't matter
if you're you're good, bad,or whatever. Like teams are going to
get better, They're not just bad. Teams are not just going to stay
(40:40):
bad. So I do love talkingto guys with a football mind, to
hear the game within the game. You and Sam Castronova have have both that
football mind about you as as quarterbacks. It's so fun to hear and chock
it up with you guys. ButI'll go ahead and hand it off to
to Malcolm now my co host.I'm sure he's got a few questions for
you out there, and I knowwhat, yeah, yeah, definitely got
(41:01):
a few for you. Mankle what'sgoing on? Brother? I want to
I'm good, brother, I'm good. Thanks for being on the show.
Brother. I'm a kind of piggypiggyback off of something that you said.
And as a newcomer to the league, give you your flowers. You definitely
have, you know, uh gotover that rookie hump. Should I say?
(41:22):
You can kind of look at guyssometimes until just by their game play
that they're not used to the game. If I was a turn on when
I did turn the game this pastweekend, you certainly don't look like your
first time arena player. Man.So you're doing your thing. Man,
I definitely get that to you. What that band said as a one of
one of the commentators said something thatwas really cool. I don't know if
(41:44):
you went back and listened to it, but he definitely, yeah, he
gave you some flowers as well.He said that you know that position wasn't
the starting position, wasn't given toyou by any means. You you earned
that like through and through. SoI have to ask you, how has
that journey been earning that position?First and foremost, I want to say
me and Darius have a good relationship. He was the starter for the first
(42:06):
three games. DJP. You know, DJP was an established guy in this
league before last year, before hetore his knee up. I mean,
he's one of the premier quarterbacks inthis league. And I don't blame coach
Mode for having him as the guyfirst, because he proved himself already,
and I just want to kind ofget that off. You know, he's
a great guy. He's been verysupportive. Hadn't been any animosity toward either
(42:28):
one of us. It was ajourney. Sat for three weeks, well,
came into camp and I'm like yousaid, it's it's such a different
game. I wasn't ready to playthat first week. As far as how
was it in college? I kindof went through the same thing. Actually
my sophomore year in college, Iwas on the JV team in my college,
I was like the four stringed quarterback. By the end of the year,
had ended up being the starter onJV and then earned my you know,
(42:51):
earned my position and really kind ofran with it once. I got
it in college, and it's kindof the same thing here. You know,
I'm kind of glad I wasn't thestarter right away because I like to
earn things I like. I feellike you earn a little different level of
respect with your teammates when you comein and you kind of got to grind
your way too, instead of justbeing handed to you. And oh yeah,
it gives you a little bit ofa backbone. You know. That's
(43:12):
cool, man. I'm glad thatyou say that. You You're one of
the few players who I've met inperson or on through phone, whatever the
case is, who is actually matureenough to admit that they possibly weren't the
best option for their team at acertain point in time. You know,
everybody loves to think, oh coachdoesn't like me, or you know,
whatever the case is. I've heardit all, man, But that's it
(43:34):
takes. It takes a really introspectiveperson to make that assessment. So that's
congratulations to you on that. Howdo you personally approach a drive knowing that,
okay, this is a muscoor drive. You know, we got up
at points on the board. Thiscould be the difference between a win or
loss. Yeah, you know, you try to train yourself as as a
quarterback to not not really think thatway. And because when you think that
(43:59):
way, you start for some passes, you start throwing things that shouldn't have
been thrown, and that's they throwinterceptions which would have made that game.
If that game goes to twenty eightto three, you know, it's as
good as doing at that point.Basically, yeah, at least momentum wise.
But we put a good drive together. We actually ran the ball well.
We were down twenty one to threeand we had to drive there.
It's not the last drive we scored, because we scored with like well,
(44:20):
we scored with no time on theclock. But the drive before that,
the first touchdown we scored. RobertWashington ran the ball very well, and
I think that kind of took alittle relief off the rest of the offense.
And I really think that's kind ofwhat got us jumped started, Robert
running the ball well and him andus being to establish our running. I
think we rushed for like seventy fiveyards. That helped so much in this
league. Oh yeah, I wasgonna mention Washington. He got some kudos
(44:43):
during the broadcast. He ran verywell. And you're right, Malcolm and
I have talked for several weeks,I think beyond Week three, just how
the difference for some of these goodteams and great teams has been a true
blue run game, like not whereyour quarterback is a dual threat and you've
got like a TJ. Edwards who'sdoing literally all the work through the air
and on the ground, but likea true run game. And you guys
(45:05):
had that in this one. AndI think if you can do that,
and if you can lean on itwhen you have a lead, then you
can set yourself up for a lotof success. With that being said,
though you mentioned coach Mugs. Youknow it has not been a great last
like four years for the Barnstormers becausethey had Dixie. They went and won
the championship with him. He's verydifficult to replace. And since then they've
(45:25):
had like three coaching changes. Andso here you are with Mugs in your
mind. I mean, I knowthat you're still new to the Iowa way
of life and what the Barnstormers are, but what is in your opinion is
MoG's version of Iowa Barnstormers football. And are you guys kind of starting to
see that now after a couple ofwins. Yeah, I would say,
(45:45):
first of all, to be honest, man, I don't I don't know
much. It's gonna sound terrible.I don't know a whole lot about the
AOA Bonn Stormers. You know, this is my first year here. I
don't. I like watching my Cowboysplay, and that's kind of all the
football I watch. You know,I don't get too caught up any other
stuff. But since I've been aroundMogues, I would say the key to
(46:07):
playing successful football under coach Mogs isreally the quarterback. He puts a pretty
decent amount on the quarterback. Imean, it's nothing unreasonable. It's what
this league is is professional football. You're gonna go as far as your quarterback
takes you. I think I'm startingto have a better understanding of what he
expects of me, and we're kindof starting to get on that same page,
(46:28):
which is nice. You know,my first couple starts, we just
didn't have that chemistry. You know. He'd call a play and I didn't
really Sometimes I wouldn't understand why hewas calling a play or what he was
setting up for down the road. But now I'm starting to kind of see
when he calls a play, I'mlike, Okay, I think I know
what he's thinking here, and we'reon the same page more than we're not
now, So I think that rightthere is allowing the offense. Speaking for
(46:51):
the offense is allowing the offense toturn a corner. And I think we're
starting to become a little more ofa physical football team as well. And
coach Mogs always preaches physicality between thewhistles. So got to keep believing in
each other and keeps driving forward, which I have a good feeling we're going
to do. Yeah, both conferencesare going to be all out chaos for
the last two seats for completely differentreasons. It's crazy when you look at
(47:14):
the standings right now. But I'vegot one more question for him. What
about you, Mal? He gotanything before we give him one more and
cut him loose? Yeah, forsure, Man, this is the fanboy
and me coming out for sure. But I'll give you a little a little
bit of history from Io. Well. First off, you guys have traditionally
had a great fan base, youknow, one of the best in the
(47:36):
league. You asked me, probablytop three man as you probably have heard,
you know, one of the alltime great NFL quarterbacks came out there.
Yeah, I'd be surprised if youdidn't. Yeah, I did figure
that one out. Yeah. Igotta ask you, though, man,
as a quarterback, did that haveany bearing on you or was that one
(47:58):
of the one of the focal pointsof you signing there or was that like
the last thing on your mind.I wouldn't say it's the last thing on
my mind. First of all, back to to hit on that. You
know, I've been here for thismy first year here, and our fans
are amazing. Yeah, truly.I mean we're two and five and they
show up in their rowdy and andif I can and that's what we talk
about, Like, guys, ifwe can get on a win streak,
(48:19):
can you imagine what this place isgoing to be like? Like, I
mean, they love they absolutely loveI love Barns Storm or football. They
love it. So the answer yourquestion about the Kurt Warner thing, it
it's a super cool deal, ButI wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say
it really played a huge part inmy decision. Not that I don't appreciate
Kurt Warner. I just don't thinkI could be compared to that, Not
(48:42):
not that you were comparing, butI don't think I can put myself on
that pedestal yet because I haven't donewhat I need to do here yet.
I hope Buck Endward Kurt Warner didthough, Yes it is. It's it's
inspirational that he did that, onehundred percent. But I'm excited to see
what it's going to be like inten games when the game slows down a
little bit. Because the game isstill fast right now, it's been slowing
down a little bit, and I'msuper excited for when I can just reach
(49:02):
that potential because that's what I wantfor my teammates. You know, I
owe them my best, and surethey're getting what I like. I'm putting
in work. I'm getting better andbetter, but they still haven't seen my
peak yet, and I'm excited forthem to see it as well. I
gotta say so too, man,I'm definitely excited as well. Brother.
I could say the the a tailltale, or I should say a prerequisite
(49:23):
for a quarterback having that sensational performance. Is the game starting to slow down.
You're getting a little more comfortable.So I mean, I'm I'm thinking
that you're gonna, you know, especially with the next half of the season,
You're gonna you're gonna, you know, have some some breakout games for
sure. Brother. For me,it's performing for the people that pay to
come watch us play a game.I mean, because at the end of
(49:44):
the day, it's still a game, and we're the lucky ones for getting
to play that game, play thisgame instead of this is our job.
I mean, how many people cansay that. How many people can say
their job is to do the sportthey love. So try to keep it
in perspective, and that's what Wherein the Gods is for me is trying
to trying to tap my potential forthose people. Well, you're certainly off
(50:06):
to a great start as far asyour start, you know with the Barnstormers,
considering you weren't the guy week one, but now you know fully confident
that you are the guy. Backto back wins to show for your hard
work. But very well said, and man, it was just a great
conversation, great time chalking it upwith you here. And you know,
me and Milk, we always enjoymeeting new faces in the league. We've
(50:28):
got like our friends. You knowthat are vets and whatever, but to
have good quality conversations like this withnot only new faces but rookies is always
a treat for us. So thankyou so much for your time. Man.
We really appreciate it. I appreciatethe opportunity. I appreciate the opportunity.
All right, folks, Well onemore time for our special guest,
first timer. He is King Kyleor Kyle King of the Iowa Barnstormers,
(50:49):
coming off back to back wins, looking to make it three in a row
this week. You'll just have totune in and see if they can do
it. But hey man, goodluck this next week. As always,
safe travels wherever you guys go,but enjoy the rest of the season in
Iowa. Yes, sir, thankyou, and one more big thank you
to Kyle King for joining us hereon the show. Now, malk,
I didn't want to bring it upwhile he was on here, but I
(51:12):
will say that I think I knowthe reason for I always turn around,
but I'm not gonna fully divulge whatthat is until they make it three in
a row. So they're a lotriding on this next game. I have
a theory, but I'm not Yes, we'll see if it pans out.
But that will bring us to ourWeek ten predictions. Man, Malcolm,
(51:37):
I have not seen a hype Manworkout video from you just yet, so
I'm still anxiously awaiting to see thatmasterpiece come across my social feed. Oh
yeah, but it's on the way. It's on a way. See.
My thing I've made is like awhole production, so it will be will
(51:59):
worth the wait, funny stuff. All right, So this pick and we're
actually gonna get through quicker because Malcolm'spunishment I have picked and we're not gonna
say it for last his punishment thisweek, And I'll go ahead and just
kind of preface it with this, and that is that my pick ems have
not been great the last two weeksoverall. I mean I've I've gotten enough
(52:19):
to beat Malcolm in our pick emfor the pick the punishment, but I
have not done well. So Ithink that those are fluke weeks. So
what the punishment for Malcolm is isthat he gets left with the team that
I don't pick for all the gamesthis week, but I will let him
choose the game that he believes inhis heart of hearts is one likely going
(52:45):
to be a win and that willbe his tiebreaker, and then I will
pick the game to be my tiebreaker. So his punishment is he gets my
leftovers for whatever the pickham is.Because I looked at this schedule, I
was like, this, this isa week. This is the kind of
week we've been waiting for, becauseall the games are games that it honestly
(53:07):
could be fifty to fifty. SoI want us to run the gauntlet and
we're gonna have different picks on allof them. So Week ten, Friday
begins with the Iowa Barnstormers and theQuad City steam Wheelers. Last week I
picked against the steam Wheelers, whetherit was because of whatever was in that
wig and the Dreadlocks or because Iwas going for the Jinks pick. But
(53:29):
quad City they get a win. They're back at home, but man,
they welcome a pretty hot Iowa Barnstormersteam, And of course we just talked
to mister Kyle King, but Idon't think that's gonna be enough for me
to pick against Quad City. SoI'm gonna go with Quad City, and
so that means Malcolm gets Iowa. How do you feel like? Do you
(53:52):
feel good? You feel bad?Iowa? I like it yeah, Iowa.
I think, I think, Ilike, I like how you know,
I think his mindset is kind ofa microcosm of the entire Iowa organization.
(54:12):
They they know that next week isnot gonna determine their their playoffs standing
order, their who's in the playoffsfor that matter. I'm taking I have
no choice, but it's all right. So, uh, this is a
when Quad City needs playing simple ifthey're gonna keep keep pace with the rest
of that conference. All right,So the that's our lone Friday game.
(54:36):
So Saturday, we start with theNorthern Arizona Wranglers and the Massachusetts Pirates,
both coming off losses. Arizona backto back, but Massachusetts a bit of
an embarrassing one on the road, but against Iowa nonetheless, not a loss
than you want on your resume whenit comes to the postseason. I'm gonna
go with Northern Arizona. I don'tthink this team is equipped to drop three
(55:00):
straight. I just I just don'tthey too talented to drop three straight.
How do you feel about being stuckwith the Pirates. I don't like it.
I don't like it. I thinkmass is one of those teams who,
like we both said they really haven'thad that tough of a schedule this
(55:22):
far, I mean thus far,so I'll take it all right. Next
matchup is the Frisco Fighters in theGreen Bay Blizzard. Apparently all I've done
all season is pick against Frisco exceptfor you know that those that three week
stretch where I picked them back toback to back to win. But I
mean, hey, you know, whatever you need is your bulletin board material
(55:43):
for the locker room, especially ifit comes from the fans show by all
me. So with that being said, I'm gonna pick Frisco just because I
feel like like if me picking againstthem has somehow made it's better for them,
I'm going to pick them now andsee what happens. We're going to
(56:04):
test that theory. So you getGreen Bay, which it's not a bad
pick. I think that for thatis a game they need to win.
I think they know that. CoachRoberson but sure knows that. You know,
he's a very cerebral coach, andhe knows where they stand currently and
where they're trying to go. SoI think he'll in part that mindset on
(56:24):
his team, especially this week.So Green Bay I definitely like it.
I'll take it all right. Thenext Saturday game, this one is going
to be very interesting. It isthe suit Fall Storm and the Jacksonville Sharks.
Now I have picked the Storm theone time that I think I will
pick them all season. I'm goingto go with the Sharks. But trust
(56:46):
me, I'm not confident in thispick after they're showing, you know in
Frisco last week, but both comingoff a loss, both looking for that
second win. So you should havea little bit of confidence in the Storm
for yourself going into this one.I do. I do, and I
think I think that's a that's asolid pick right there. I'm definitely gonna
(57:07):
lock that one in. Oh butyou know, on on your end,
I don't think that this is goingto be like an easy game by any
means for either side. Told youthis was a gauntlet of a week.
Man. It's not like last weekwhere we had all these thoughts and came
up on the wrong end of them, like where there could be a huge
(57:30):
upset. This is like legit couldgo either way. So the next game,
also on Saturday, so quite alot of action on Saturday, is
the Tulsa Oilers at the San AntonioGunslingers. That. You can't say it
any other way than this is agame that both teams need at this point
in the season. This is agame you need to win. You're a
step closer to five hundred, andyou've got to start beating the tough opponents,
(57:53):
right even the middle of the packopponents. Now I know where you
want to go on this, whichis why to go a different way.
I'm gonna pick San Antonio so thatyou have to finally pick the Oilers.
And I'm sure I'll get messages fromPat and whatnot about ticking against them again,
but who knows what that means. No, I'm and I'm not mad
(58:16):
at Tosa. I mean I'm notmad at to pick either, because I
like Tosa in this one. Ithink that it's it's a it's a playing
against coach Jones after you know, coming off of Lass it's a dangerous team,
man. So yeah, yeah,I'll take that. That's that's definitely
not gonna be one of that changeeither. I like that well. And
(58:37):
the matchup to watch is going tobe what Jones does to Castronova. I
mean, it's that defense versus thatoffense. That's that's the matchup. I'm
the most excited for, because younever know what Jones is gonna cook up.
So the next Saturday game is theVegas Nighthawks and the Tucson Sugar Skulls.
Uh, no brainer here, I'mgonna take Nighthawks so Malcolm will get
(59:00):
to cheer on Sugar Skulls. Ifeel like, of all the games this
week, this is like the onewhere you're like, just damn all right.
So the next one is Bay Areaagainst Arizona, the Panthers and the
Rattlers. No brainer for who Iwant to win on this one. But
this one could be a lot closerthan I think a lot of people think.
(59:23):
I just don't appreciate the attitude fromArizona fans, like I don't even
know where it comes from anymore. They joined the league in twenty seventeen,
there was all this attitude about howthey were going to come in and own
the league, and then they wonthe championship. Okay, so a little
bit of an inflated ego, Butsince then they haven't won a championship at
all, and I just don't knowwhere the attitude continues to come from.
(59:45):
Just park the attitude, we're justdoing a show here. And you're taking
away too seriously and that's the problemthat people have with them in the league.
But I'm gonna pick Bay Area obviously, so you get left with Arizona.
I take it it could be,could be for sure. I mean,
just the backtrack a little bit.I think we both know where the
(01:00:06):
attitude comes from. It starts withtheir head coach slash GM slash president slash
King of the world whatever. Butyeah, No, I think Kevin God
has a certain mystique about him thathe it kind of rubs off on the
fans, you know. That.Being said, I think that he feels
the pressure. He wants to liveup to the standard that is Arizona Ratlers,
(01:00:30):
so he's he's looking to win out. A hungry ratless team is a
dangerous one, so I'll stick withthat. Yeah, And guy does not
like halftime interviews. And I'm notsure if it's the inn ear because normally
it's like over the head and headphonesthat you get, but he got earbuds
(01:00:51):
this time, and you could tellhe could hardly hear the guys. But
one to his defense, which isa rare thing for me to do,
but to his defense that the guysthat were asking him. The questions were
not on it, like Okay, you've got a minute maybe from end of
the half to coach going into thelocker room to start making adjustments, to
(01:01:13):
fire off one maybe two questions andfor you to give this whole you know,
uh, prerequisite into this question thatisn't even a closed question, it's
a you know, talk to usa bit about that first half, like
no, no, no, no, no, Like, okay, this
is this is the time where you'vewatched a whole first half. You need
to pick out two very specific questionsthat you want to ask this coach to
(01:01:37):
get very specific answers. Because heripped out the earbuds and he was like,
I'm going into the locker room. After they asked the second question,
he answered it real quick, butthey just they jumbled around, and it's
like they don't respect his time asa coach to get in there, and
as a journalist, as somebody inbroadcasting that it drives me nuts. Uh,
that's definitely the journalist and you're comingout man, I'm seeing it.
(01:01:58):
No, But I think part ofit is knowing your your guests, for
one, yes, and secondly, just being aware of the situation. They
have to know that that kind ofstuff, it pushes people's buttons, you
know. So, I mean,yeah, you're definitely right. I feel
that it was a little funny towatch. But that brings us to our
Week ten finale, our lone Sundaygame, This one Malco might actually enjoy.
(01:02:21):
It is the Duke City Gladiators takingon the San Diego Strikeforce. Could
this be Duke City's first win ofthe season or will it have to wait
one more week? Well, no, come, we'll get to cheer them
on. I'm taking the San DiegoStrike Force at all. And as much
as I would like to possibly usemy get out of Joe free card on
(01:02:45):
this, I gotta cheer my guys, man. See. Yeah, I'll
be wearing it, wearing my shirt. You know, had everything, man.
So yeah, we'll see, we'llsee. And I mean, honestly,
I do have a lot of faithin in their their team now.
I mean I saw some great things, especially it's it's a it's a it's
(01:03:06):
kind of a wonder how much oneplayer can make a difference, you know.
I mean I like it. Ilike it. I'll definitely I definitely
roll with Duke City. I thinkI think they got some good chances.
Duke City is not an easy winanymore. So if you were part of
that six of their zero to six, be happy that you got it out
of the way, because I justdon't think that this is a team that's
going to be an easy win anymore. In fact, I don't think any
(01:03:27):
team is an easy win anymore. Not Jacksonville, Nazu Falls, not Iowa.
This is the time of the seasonwhere you you've got to really focus
on your opponent that's coming up nextand take the points and get the win.
That's a bottom line. So toldyou we are running the continent for
Week ten. Every pick is adifferent one. I'm very excited for this.
(01:03:51):
So out which which game are youlocking in as your tiebreaker? I
know for certain this game is goingto be a winner. Yeah, I
was a see it's a hard twoof them right now that I would say,
But I'm taking I gotta go withVegas. The Vegas and Tucson.
As much as I would love tosee Tucson, you know, start their
(01:04:15):
season turnaround against an undefeated team,I just can't see it happening, man,
So yeah, I'm gonna flip upand go ahead. And choose Vegas
along with you. So uh yeah, yeah, I think that's my my
my lock in Okay, Well forme, I am gonna go with bay
(01:04:38):
Area over Arizona. That'll be mylock. As far as wins, I
think you know we've we were differenton all the picks. I gave you
the luxury of picking your your onelock. I cannot pick that game because
it's tiebreakers, so and then ifit gets beyond that, we'll just have
to see like who did better aspoints spread right, like who which wins
(01:05:00):
were like really bad wins and whichlosses. So okay, there's a fun
pick them. For week ten.Malcolm's punishment he had to pick a team
that I did not pick for them, And so next week I'm in Orlando.
I got my itinerary, and man, it is a busy, busy
week. So I honestly, it'snot necessarily that I wouldn't be able to
(01:05:25):
hop on to record a show. It's I don't know when I'm gonna have
time in traveling and everything to onewatch the games and be prepared to record.
But then I don't think I'm gonnahave any time to edit. So
we will give you a week off. But maybe Malcolm and I can coordinate
where we hop on Instagram live together. We can talk about things Monday night
or Tuesday night or something. ButI'm just I'm going to be too busy
(01:05:45):
to do it. It's just notgonna If you knew how to edit,
I would say, just set upa zoom, invite somebody, and do
a show however you want. Butediting is like sixty of it. Definitely,
definitely enjoy yourself out of Orlando.Man. It's beautiful all year round,
but especially this time of year.I'm sure, so, you know,
(01:06:10):
for for the fans, of course, you know, just stay tuned,
stay locked into the Instagram for updatesand everything. But you know,
man, definitely hope you enjoy yourself. Brother, and Malcolm is gonna have
his beautifully put together a hype Manvideo we're all get excited about. But
be a nice little break. Ithink this is a good opportunity. Since
(01:06:32):
we haven't gotten any swag from anyteams yet this season, this little break
is the perfect opportunity. We're allthrow this out there to whoever the first
team is that sends me and Malcolmswag to wear on the show. First
will be the team that we cheerfor for the rest of the season,
playing and played it simple. Okay, there's there's the deal. Whoever gets
(01:06:54):
a swag first, we will.We will be your number one fans and
come on now, you will neversee another pick against you. Arizona sends
us care packages. Hey heard thison the show. What now? Oh
man, bye? So I'd takeyou. I'd take it, man.
(01:07:15):
I know you would probably hate thata lot more than that one. I
just love every second of it.All right, Well, that'll do it
