Speaker 1 (00:13):
God, shut up.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Sho.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Hello everyone, and welcome once again to the one and
only the Fan Show. I'm your host is always the
tea man, Richard Teman, and the man in the other box,
well he has a hot day tonight, so we gotta
wrap this thing up real quick. It is Malcolm McCoy
aka Professor malk Today.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
How you doing, man, I'm great, man, I'm great man.
Always good to be here. Bro. How about you?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
I'm doing all right, All things considered, We've a lot
to talk about. And you know, I was trying to
figure out what was the best way to kind of
dive into things because obviously we're done with the regular
season now, and so there's no power rankings because I'm like,
I've never understood the platforms, especially at the NFL level,
(01:18):
that will do power rankings before the season, so before
anybody has played, and then into the postseason when only,
like you know, twenty five percent of the teams are playing,
and then of course they do post draft and free
agency power rankings, and I feel like it's content just
to be content, and I don't want to do that.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
So we have no power rankings today.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
We did have a great first round of the playoffs,
which we will talk plenty about. But as far as
you know starting things off, this episode will still air
right at the end of a month, so it's not
a new month, so there's nothing to put to bed.
But as far as good, bad and funny, I mean,
for me, it was Deadpool Wolverine was just.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Good, good, good, good good. I have no bad for that.
It was funny. It was amazing.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
People that are like casual Marvel fans have asked me, like,
is it worth it? I said absolutely, you know, I
mean there's it pays a lot of homage, which I appreciate,
so that's good. That's also what inspired my fit today.
This is my if you had to choose a restroom
in the Marvel universe, like which is yours, mine's the
Wolverine one right there. But one of my favorite shirt
(02:31):
of all time got it to Universal Orlando, you know,
a few years back. But anyway, so yeah, Deadpool Wolverine.
I was in full costume. I had the Wolverine costume
that I didn't think would fit anymore.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
It fits.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I found my claws and the mask. And here's here's
a cultural adjustment I've had to make since moving from
Spokane to sou Fall, South Dakota, Omaha, Nebraska, and now
Great Falls, Montana. I'm not sure what it was like
in sue Fall, South Dakota because the time we lived
there was the pandemic right twenty twenty to twenty twenty one,
(03:08):
and then oh Maha.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
We went to the premiere of The Spider Man that
had all the Spider Man in it, right, Toby maguire
Andrew Garfield. That was fun, and that was the theater
at the mall, and so there was a lot of cheering.
But I remember going to movie premieres midnight showings, which
it don't exist anymore, but like the Thursday one of
(03:32):
the Thursday showings at like seven or nine o'clock, and
there would be cheering and applauding, like I would high
five people around me, you know, for certain moments of
different movies. And there was always like, you know, at
least five people per show dressed up, and this time
I was the only one dressed up, so there were
(03:52):
people taking pictures of me. A few people got pictures
with me, and then you know, I'm like cheering for
these moments and applauding. I'm like going to high five people,
but there's nobody like to high five because the was
so empty.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
No.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Granted it was the ten o'clock three D showing, so
maybe the seven o'clock was better. But I just there's
certain things that I miss about a bigger city like Spokane,
and that's one of them, is just that environment. So,
you know, moments I won't get back, but at least
for some of the bigger moments like Avengers and the
(04:27):
dark night Rises and a whole bunch of other ones
I was there with just like shoulder the shoulder people
were all just like cheering and applauding and stuff like that.
So yeah, that was That was my weekend. That was
a fun one. What about for you anything good come
from it? Bad or funny?
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, And I'm kind of sticking to the it's just
staying with the theme if you will. I definitely had
a good pertaining to the Marvel Universe two. First though,
I definitely want to say, let's bring back the costumes, man.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I mean, if you guys.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Haven't seen Rich's instagram in that Wolverine gods, don't look
damn good man. I remember when I went to see
an Avengers end game. I had a couple of Iron
Man masks. I think I saw some Halt hands too,
but uh, man, it would be fun to see like
people fully dressed and stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I think I'm gonna go ahead and do that when
I when I go see it.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hearing good things
as far as my good Like I said, I didn't
see the movie yet, definitely looking forward to it, but
if I'm not mistaken, I think Comic Come Home was
also this week, and I saw some clips from that
and a bunch of a bunch of characters and like
just actors and stuff from the Marvel movies were in attendance,
(05:48):
and they did it unveiling of I.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Think a new Avengers coming out.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I don't think they dropped the release date yet, but
uh it's an Avengers kind of centered around the Fantastic
Four and doctor Doctor Doom's or and stuff like that.
I thought it was funny to see they unveiled at
Robert Downey Jr. Were playing Doctor Doom too, And I
heard about on Deadpool. You know how Deadpool was like
a fourth wall breaking character. He makes reference to stuff
(06:16):
that he shouldn't know about and all that it's just funny.
They said that he mentioned how Marvel has Robert Downey
Junior on the contract till he's ninety, and I was like, you.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Know, with Marvel, so to the day he dies. But
it was just funny to see that.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Well, you know, it's one of those things where it's
it's gotten a mixed reaction. Now, I loved RDJ, especially
as iron Man like him and Hugh Jackman are the
only people that could play those characters in my opinion,
although they will try to have others play those characters
eventually at some point.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
It's just the way the world works.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
But you know, when they unveiled him, I was like, okay,
like I get it. But at the same time, you know,
my reaction was there are other actors out there that
capable of performing to such a level. There were room
for a long time about who they had in mind
to play Doctor Doom, and I think like Silly and Murphy,
(07:08):
you know, the guy who was Oppenheimer, I see he was,
he was one. But you know, it's it's something where
I just feel like there's other actors, you know, like
give somebody else a chance to really make their spot.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Or at least get their bag. You know.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
That's That's one of the things that people overlook a
lot is that Chris Evans, I guess, was on the
fence for a really long time if he wanted to
come back to Marvel one and to be the staple
or anchor point that is Captain America, right, because that's
a long term investment. There's been guys that they've wanted
in the MCU that they haven't gotten because it requires
(07:45):
such a long term commitment. One was Daniel Craig who
was James Bond. He rather he preferred to do the
James Bond thing than Marvel. And there's been a few
others that it's like, I can't commit to that long.
And it's not just like the movies. It's the cameos, right,
the crossovers. It's like there's something in every movie. So
you know, there was a conversation Chris Evans had with
(08:06):
Robert Downey Junior and he's like, look, Marvel gave me
a second chance which I never thought I would get,
which most people don't get. And he's like, and it's
given me the ability to have this platform where I'm
able to do so much good now, and I have
the finances to do it. You know, it's like I've
secured this paycheck and with that, I'm able to do
all these good things. And that was ultimately the decision
(08:28):
making conversation for Chris Evans to be like, all right,
I'll be your caps in America. So it's in my
mind when you see a guy that's had a conversation
with someone like that and now he's back taking that role,
so to speak from somebody else, it's kind of like,
you know, I have no doubt he'll do a great job.
But that was just my initial reaction was like, there
are other actors and they're just doing the the Kang
(08:50):
storyline so dirty because they're basically etch sketching that shit like.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Never happened, you know, like Jonathan Major's who what like,
oh yeah, so bad.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
To your point about dressing up, though, did you see
our man ej Eddie Hamilton. He dressed up and took
his girlfriend to the movie. He was in a wolverine
costume on her Facebook and I laughed so hard because here.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Goes big Eddie.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Hej's got these roses in a wolverine costume running up
to the passenger side of a.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Cary shout out EJ man' that's my man. He's like
a big as kid for real, like a five year
old and a sixth four, two.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Hundred and seventy pound body. Man. Really, he's he's a
he's too much fun bro. That's crazy. I guys, see it.
I haven't seen it as yet. Check it out.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
And to wrap up the good, bad and funny here
here's my actual bad and funny and it is part
of Deadpool Wolverine. So we had tickets for the ten
o'clock three D. There's a three o'clock, a seven, a
nine to nine thirty, a ten, and a ten thirty.
So there's all these showings that day and great Fall,
though it's an AMC that gets all the goodies, does
not get a lot of the goodies.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
So I was.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Working, you know, in the same area as the AMC theater,
and I'm just like, you know, on my lunch, I'm gonna,
you know, run down there and check it out. See
how things are going at the three o'clock And it
was chaos. So I go through the line and I
get my popcorn bucket and our two collector cups. And
by the time I get through the line, you know,
(10:27):
they're out of the little minifigure toppers for the Wolverine cup,
which was kind of disappointing, but they substituted it for
one of the other Deadpool ones, and then you know,
they said that they were out of the Deadpool cups
and I was like, well damn. So I get my
stuff and I go and I'm like, you know what,
I'm going to go back through because maybe they'll get
(10:48):
more stuff and I can like leave my name in
number and they'll call me and I can come and
pick it up.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Who knows.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
So as I'm going through the line, the guy ahead
of me says, well, what about.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
The display ones?
Speaker 3 (10:58):
And they're like, oh yeah, we're sold out, so we
can sell those now, and I'm like jet. So he
gets the Wolverine display and I'm like, okay, that's fine,
and so as I'm as I get up there, I'm
just like, I want the Deadpool we'll display cut because
that's the one I don't have. So his a nurse
for me and my wife. So they get it, and
a guy that was in line ahead of me the
first time happened to just be out there at that
(11:21):
exact moment and goes, hey, like they told me they
couldn't sell the damn displays and so that like that's bullshit,
and I'm just like, dude, your issue is with them,
not me, Like I just paid for this, Like I
almost caught the fight over collector cups.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
So people just take their stuff a little too seriously.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
But so that's my good bad funny from the weekend,
and then saying for malk But okay, so two IFL
action and news we had. The first round of the
playoffs postseason has not disappointed. I mean, it's a short one,
but this one has been good so far. Four teams remained,
but all the story lines that we talked about last week,
(12:02):
they're pretty much gone except for a couple. God, I
really don't want to bring it back up, but it
needs to be. The stream issues seventy five percent of
the games, So for those of you doing the math,
three out of the four games they had had some
matter of streaming issues. And apparently some of the people
I talked to the announcement of the stadium deal was
(12:25):
them finding out they were now going to have to
stream their game that way. So there were full teams
and staffs that were finding out some of the night
before that they were going to have to do this
this way with stadium. And it's just so funny to
me because I don't know if I told you the
story about when Dangey and I went to Vegas the
(12:45):
first time last year for a music festival, and a
buddy of mine who lives in Vegas told us as
we're looking at the Formula one setup, they were getting
ready for the big Formula one race around the sphere
and stuff, so they had like streets blocked off and
bleachers and we were like, oh, this is cool, ooh ah.
And we were like, so, what do you think about Vegas, Like,
they get a football team, they're going to host Formula
(13:06):
one race, They're going to host.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
The Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
He's like it's great, like like for the city, for
the economy, Like it's great. It's just that Vegas has
this tendency to never be able to say no to
anything for any reason, and it's always they hear an idea,
they love the idea, they agreed to the idea, and
then the motto, the unspoken motto of Vegas is We'll
figure it out. And I feel like that's very much
(13:30):
the motto of the Todd tryon era for the IFL
is we'll figure it out. Because there was the Louisville
Extreme Debacle, which was a team that looked like it
was solid but then folded like midway through the season
because they couldn't pay their bills. And it's like, you know,
you have this expansion and I don't think that all
the stuff that needed to be checked was and then
(13:52):
it fell through and it was a real black eye
for the league at the moment. But now you have,
you know, the stadium stream deal comes through and it's like, yeah, great,
and all the teams are like, how are we going
to do this, and it's like, we'll figure it out.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
And hopefully they.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Have it figured out going into this next round because
it is the conference championships. But I just you know,
you and I have talked about it, you know, all
season long. Hero there I put it to bed. But
it's just like, this is one of those issues. And
there was an apology issued by the commissioner on the
ifl's you know, social media's and everything, but it's just like,
(14:27):
you have got to be better because the bar everywhere
else is so low that this.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Should be easy, right.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
I mean, there's no other league that is running as
smoothly as you are, and to have hiccups where the
fans consume your product remotely when they're not able to attend.
It's just such a big glaring issue to me. So
we'll figure it out. I feel as the unofficial motto
of the IFL and Todd tryon era, and we kind
(14:55):
of saw that this last week. So hopefully the teams
that are hosting postseason game this week have it figured out.
So we had four games in the first round, and
those final scores are as followed. Green Bay over Quad
City thirty four to twenty three, Mass over Frisco fifty
three fifty, Arizona over Vegas thirty nine thirty eight, and
(15:17):
San Diego over Bay Area forty nine forty. So for
the seventh season in a row, there will be a
different champion crown, not necessarily a new one, but we
will not have a repeat champion. That street continues. A
lot of people have been talking about it, they're happy
about it, but Malk of those like what stands out?
What game did you want to talk about specifically?
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Man, First off, I definitely have to shout out my guys.
You know, I put the shirtle edges in commemoration to them. Man,
I mean they did that thing. I mean, watching that game,
I couldn't be more happy for coach Roberson. You know,
Like I said last week, I don't want to say
(16:01):
that they necessarily deserve it, but they they worked hard
for this and uh, you know, it's good to see
the pieces kind of coming together for them. I definitely
want to speak on the Mass versus Frisco game, Man,
that I certainly didn't expect that. I want to call
this week I kind of colloquially like nickname the Week
(16:23):
of the Underdogs, you know, because I mean, everybody, it
seems like all but one team that everybody thought was
gonna win really didn't didn't finish up, which is funny.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Which is funny that you say that, because fun interesting
tidbit is that every team that lost except for green
Bay had the lead at halftime. So that was green
Bay is the one that we all expected to, like
of the one seeds to win, you know, probably convincingly
there was still a chance. But yeah, every team that
lost except for them had the lead at halftime, so
(16:58):
that was an interesting that's crazy, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
That's crazy. I did see that about you know, during
this game in particular, I didn't know that about everyone else.
That's kind of crazy. But yeah, man uh and no,
no shade the Frisco. You know, they did the thing,
played the hell of a game. The guys showed up
and you know, like they always do. But the playoff
football is different.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Man. Like I said before, I put.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
The bed the the notion that that mass hasn't played
any real competition there, not like a playoff caliber team.
But this game, if any, definitely put it to bed,
you know. So, I mean that was that was a
crazy one, what fun want to watch, for sure, But
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised. Man,
I thought Frisco was going wipe the floor with him.
(17:43):
But I mean, here we are any given weekend.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
I guess you know, we we see it every year
in the NFL and college football. It's that postseason experience.
And I didn't want to think that it was a
real thing, But more and more over the years, I
have seen it as a very real thing. If you've
been there and you've done that, you act like it.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
You know.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Tom Brady always seemed postseason ready because he had been
there so many damn times. Right, Super Bowl was like
nothing for him. But yeah, college football, NFL, you have
these teams that have amazing seasons and they've got all
the momentum and support. They're running head first at an
unstoppable rate going into the postseason, and then they meet
(18:26):
up with a team that maybe had some hiccups or
even all out struggled to get to the postseason, but
they had been there before, and they run into their
first big hurdle and they can't get over it. So,
you know, I look at these final scores, and when
I saw that final for Mass Frisco, I was like, man, like,
postseason Frisco is just something different. And I think you
(18:49):
do have to give flowers to Mass because they have
been there before in the postseason and a champions And
I'm not saying that that plays a huge factor because
Frisco has been to the postseason before. But you know,
I'm watching this game looking for a turning point and
you're thinking fifty three to fifty. Okay, So they were
tied with like a minute left, the mask got the ball,
they win with a walkoff field goal. No, the last
(19:11):
time that Frisco scored was with twelve thirty three left.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
In the fourth.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
They had a fourteen point lead at halftime, technically sixteen
point because they came out opening half kickoff for the
second half and got a duce and then it was
back and forth until it wasn't. There was a big
stop after that last score, and then that was all
Mass needed. They ran the clock down and then when
(19:36):
Frisco got the ball back with the minute left, they
stopped him. So sometimes that's all it takes. But this
was not a final score that you think, you know,
how it went. Twelve thirty three left in the fourth
quarter was the last time the Fighters scored in that game,
And that just to me, it blows my mind because
this was a team that, for all intents and purposes
(19:58):
offensively was like, oh my, I was up there with
San Diego, Like you just you don't want to be
chasing points against an offense like this. And mcclurridge even
had a hat trick of touchdowns. Like if you look
at the stats, you probably think that this game, you know,
was like, how does Frisco lose this game? So yeah,
very much props the Mass. One thing I wanted to
(20:18):
specifically ask you about was Green Bay Quad City. Now
this was a game that we looked at and probably
both thought, okay, like there's a chance because it's a
rivalry game. But Green Bay has played significantly better than
Quad City. And I don't think that that's just you know,
their rosters as a whole, but it's confidence in your quarterback.
Max Miler has been the guy, and even when he
(20:39):
was hurt, the other guy came in and won the game.
There was still no question about who their quarterback was.
Quad City has been fifty to fifty all season, and
so is who's going to be under center for as
their quarterback? And I was reminded of the time when
we were with Omaha and Drew ended up being the
only quarterback that season that played start to finish the
(21:02):
entire season. Now, Selina had some injuries, they had a
guy get I think called for a tryout somewhere, so
they had a few QB switches. But there was a
lot of teams that it was like every week it
was just like let's let's try this guy, let's try
this guy, and you just you can't win consistently that way.
So I know that you being on that team, like,
what what was it like? You know, what's the difference
(21:25):
in the locker room as far as the mood and
mentality when you have given your quarterback the ball and
said here, lead our team, and that doesn't change all
season long.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Man, just from the outside looking in. Obviously I was
on the team like you said, but just observing and
observing his uh, his demeanor and mindset. After it was
made clear that he's the gay we're going to run
with is he handed him the reins and we'll let
(21:55):
you know, uh, you know, take us to the promised land.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Man, he is easy for that to kind of uh
give a quarterback a big head. But Drew he held
it down.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Man, I could definitely say he certainly handled that as
professionally as possible. He didn't let it get to his head.
He still stayed in the playbook as often as he could.
We'll keep guys after practice, you know, running routes on
there and stuff like that. Even sometimes ask some defensive
guys like myself and the dB to stay after and
(22:27):
give him a look and.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Things like that.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
So things like that kind of just bring a team together,
you know, when you see a quarterback still working as
hard as he was, even having for lack of better terms,
being given the key to the city. You know, Uh,
it's a good thing to see. It just kind of
propels your team forward that much more. And I can
(22:52):
certainly speak for Omaha, I would assume that's probably what
went down in Green Bay. You know, like we said before,
they make it a point to bring guys in and
and kind of trust those guys and and I guess
develop them opposed to just you know, punching a ticket
on a random guy and hoping that he's the one.
(23:14):
You know, they they trust Max Miler from day one.
He's played at a high level, and that I think
just kind of just lights a fire under the entire team.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
So, I mean, it's a it's a cool thing to see.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Yeah, it just really stood out to me because I
know that them and even Bay Area at times was
like toggling back and forth between quarterbacks and with Bay
Areas like what are you doing? Like you guys are
the you know, by record, the best team in the league,
and he keeps flipping back between Neil and Harper, and
I just I couldn't understand it. Now, I'm not the coaching,
(23:50):
not the GM might have to let them coaching in GM,
but I feel like you know, Quad City is one
of those teams where they were good, consistent quarterback play
away from being like a really good team and not
just you know, on the bubble five hundred team. But obviously,
if you're Duke City, if your Tucson, you're gonna throw
(24:10):
stuff at the wall and see what sticks because nothing
has worked for you. But if you're Quad City, I
mean it raises the question not just this year, but
like what do you do next year? Like who is
your guy next year? Because it seemed like you didn't
have a guy this year. You still made the postseason,
so it's like you want to get back there. You
have the tools to do it, but you are just
missing this one key piece. And I feel like I
(24:31):
would have preferred them to stick with one guy all
season long and even miss the playoffs, then to have
them kind of limp into it, going back and forth
and having this question no closer to being answered going
into a new season, right, So that's just me.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
But you know, Quad City gave it their best.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
We love the guys in QC, and I think that
they still had a season to be proud of. There
was a lot of adversity that they overcame, so props
to them, but the quarterback will be the big question
for next season.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Vegas and Arizona.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Dude, Like, I hate to be the guy, but I
have to be the guy that talks about clock management
and just I don't know what Vegas was doing in
that last minute. You throw it twice while Arizona still
has two timeouts. You kick a field goal, which is fine,
you were up to the field goal makes it five,
and then you attempt the deuce, but you still gave
(25:26):
the ball back to the Arizona rattlers with Dalton sneed,
a healthy Dalton sneed with fifty five seconds left and
two timeouts. They won with a walk off touchdown with
two seconds left, And I just can't help it feel
like if you run the ball even one time on
second or third down, they don't have those two seconds anymore.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Like I just I've been.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Trying to wrap my head around the decision as far
as the clock management and play calling in that final
minute ever since it happened, and I just can't. I
can't get around it because because how I would have
done it is run the ball twice. Okay, so they
call two timeouts, so it doesn't change anything there but
then you kick the field goal, you're up by five.
I wouldn't have tried the dues I because there's too
(26:12):
high of a risk that you don't get it. And
even if you do, that's a seven point lead. There's
no guarantee that coach guy, if he gets a touchdown,
is going to go for the pat to tie it
up and want to play another quarter with you. I
he's the kind of guy who would probably go for
two and try to beat you right there. So I
just feel like, run the ball twice, let them burn
(26:34):
their timeouts, then squib kick it, try try to pin
them as far back as you can, make them go
the length of the field with no time and it
just it's like he handed them every chance and it
burned you. And I just I don't know if that
was your takeaway or if you've been on sidelines in
those situations and what the conversation is, but that that
(26:55):
was my biggest irritation was just like how do you
how do you missman? That is the last minute against
a team like Arizona, when when you've got everything right
there for you, you know, going for you.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yeah, it's confusing, it really is. I mean, and we
spoke on this as well earlier in the season. How
you would think, you know, with all the staff in
the box and got several coaches on the field or
on the sideline, just a bunch of different eyes and
a bunch of different perspectives, you would think that clock
management wouldn't be a problem. But it goes to show
(27:31):
even an elite playoff caliber team, it's still, you know,
susceptible to making mistakes like that.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
I was watching and.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
That was one game I kind of rewound to, like
the last drive, and I was thinking myself, I think
that's the that's the Madden player on both of us.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
We're looking at the.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Clock and we're like, man, like I would have done this,
And I was right there with you, Rich Honestly, I'm
thinking the same thing.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
I'm like, I would have done this.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
I wouldn't have definitely wouldn't have thrown the ball as
much as they did, because I mean, in the game
of indoor football, you know, it's already so fast paced.
You know, given given a team just under a minute
to drive down the field, that's that's for them, that's forever.
You know, you can a lot of things can happen
(28:18):
in ten seconds, much less a minute. So you know,
they definitely shot themselves in the foot with that one.
But I mean, hindsight is twenty twenty. I'm sure they
probably seen some things that we did or whatever the
case is. I would love to speak to somebody in
that huddle war on the sideline during that last drive,
but it's hard to say what they would have what
(28:41):
they could have been seeing that, you know, dictated that
play calling. But like I said, I'm kind of right
there with you. I couldn't agree more that.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
I just feel like that the management could have been
a lot better.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Well.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
And even if you're throwing for the sticks to try
to put it away, right, because that's what it felt
like to me, I would have only done it once.
I would have ran the ball the first time. Make
them burn a timeout right then if you're like, okay,
they've got one time out left, we're at you know,
the minute mark, let's go ahead and try to get
(29:15):
this first down, and then you know, you do or
you don't, and and then it's still a minute with
a single timeout left. I just you know, watching that
final drive from the Rattlers, they had they did have
to use both of their timeouts and then for it
to end with two seconds left on a walk off touchdown.
I was just like God, Like, if you would have
made them burn even one of those like, it could
(29:38):
have been a completely different outcome for you guys. So
could have should have wo a Vegas props to them
for a great season, a franchise season, because this is
the best that they've done. They will not be the
team to host the championship, but there will be a
new champion or just a different champion once again. And
(30:00):
as we go to our finale for the first round
of the postseason, and that was San Diego and Bay Area. Man,
this one I think you could sum up as bay Area. Somehow,
Someway just got outplayed by San Diego. The defense stepped
up huge in that fourth quarter, especially down the stretch.
(30:21):
But man, we knew San Diego was a dangerous, if
not the most dangerous team headed into the postseason, regardless
of what seed they got, and they're proving it right
now as they go into Bay Area hostile territory and
they upset the champs and just for them to hang
in there with them. Like I said, every game except
(30:43):
for Green Bay, the team that lost had the lead
at halftime. So for these three teams to hang in there,
I think speaks volumes about just how for real they
are and the time it matters most, which is the
playoffs for the IFL. So I don't know if you
had any other takeaway from San Diego bay Area, but
I do think that bay Area just got out played.
(31:05):
You know, there was nothing really to pin it on
any moment in particular. Fans will say, oh, it was
this caller or the ref had it out for us
on this drive or whatever, and that's fine and good
and all. I mean, I've there's been moments that have
gotten to me to a point where it's just like, uh,
freaking ref, you know, But it's I think at the
end of the day, you look at that final score
(31:25):
forty nine to forty, and yeah, I think Bay Area
just got outplayed by a team that is maybe hungrier.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
I don't know, possibly, possibly, And that's a tailor to take. Really,
they just got out played. Honestly, part of that doing
part because of our guy Arthur Jackson a four touchdown game.
I mean, it's kind of just, you know, to be
expected at this point man, between him and Nate Davis.
I mean, you just know what breakout game is going
(31:52):
to come. Man, But a huge shout out to him
for doing that. And the playoffs, you know, that's like
you said, that's when it really matters most. Uh, not
to not to say that during the regular season that's
not just as impressive, but to still.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Be that guy to be leaned on in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Not only that you're you're you're doing your part and
then some you know before touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
What more can you ask for your your team's franchise receiver.
Also that defense.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Man, It just it goes to show you how how
far a stout defense goes well in the playoffs. Man,
I got a shout out Elijah Bell. He's the one
who closed the game out with that that game win
an interception if you will.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
That man, he's been he's been playing at the high
level all season.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
I'm not sure what number of interceptions this is for him,
but uh, he's he's had a few games where he's
closed out by you know, getting an interception or you know,
making a game when it tackle.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Man, he's been playing a high level all season.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
And that's not only him, just a defense around him too.
So yeah, my san diego there there at this point.
I don't think it would be far fetter to say
that they're probably the most dangerous team within the last
four at this point.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Yeah, And that was Malcolm's flyer when it came to
the pick them last week. So he gets Green Bay, right,
which I refused to pick. I'm not I'm not even
mad about that.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Got a lot of.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
People messages me. It's just like, oh, we love you man,
thank you so much. Yeah, because it's just like, you know,
I love the teams both equally, but no, the San
Diego bay Area one man.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
That was his victory to be had.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
So there's a punishment to be dealt when we do
our very short pick them because there's only two games.
But nice thing about these matchups they are split going
into the first round. Vegas had won the regular season
series against Arizona and then they lose the one that
probably mattered the most, which was the one the postseason
to move on in the playoffs. And you know, when
(34:02):
it comes to San Diego and Bay Area, they had
played each other a few times. San Diego did get one,
but bay Area got a couple more than that, and
San Diego ends up getting the wins.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
So these two matchups they have.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
You know, both played each other a few times and
the outcomes were different. So I'm excited to talk all
about that. But yeah, looking back at the route at
the first round, I think the biggest like oh shit
moment was definitely Mass. I just think that when you
look at those matchups Frisco and Mass was the one
(34:37):
that we didn't really blink at. We just looked and said,
it's Frisco, like it's got to be. And for them
to upset Frisco on the road crazy. That really sums
up postseason football, especially indoor football. So this is the
portion of the program where we welcome a special guest,
and this one and oldie but a goodie. He is
(34:58):
a fan favorite from one of the more historic franchises
in the league, so we get to talk to him
right now. That's right, ladies and gentlemen. Like I said,
an oldie but a goodie, a man from one of
the more storied franchises in the Indoor Football League.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
That's the word I was looking for, storied.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
But anyway, he has Barnstorm, a royalty and IFL Hall
of Famer and the only man that can hit the
HBK post just about as good as I can it is.
Joff Eats Jones. Welcome man.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
How you doing pretty good?
Speaker 5 (35:29):
Man. I'm so thankful that you ask for me to
be on your show. Man. I appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Well.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
It's always good to, you know, catch up with some
former players.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Man.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
I remember talking with Marshall Hart on one of the
first episodes that we did back and I said, there
was such a golden era from Midwest teams, I mean offense, defense,
Ryan Valentine, Travis Partridge, Markel, Willis, Marquez, Golman. You know,
there was just so many names stacked and now it
seems like there's so far and few between. Thank you fully.
(36:00):
Green Bay it was the number one seed. They're doing
really well, making a name for themselves. But you come
from that barnstorm or lineage, which was the home of
Kurt Warner. But you know, let's get right to it.
They announced the Hall of Fame finalist, you being a
Hall of Fame member. You know, we asked Claude last week, Hey,
you're working on a Hall of Fame career. Was there
a moment or season that you had where you were like,
(36:22):
you know, I'm Hall of Fame worthy.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
What was it? Like getting that call for you and
were you expecting the call?
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Like was there a moment for you too in your career?
Speaker 5 (36:31):
Man, I would say this. So I went to D three, right,
and so my high school was bad.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
I had to go to the underdog route, and so
my mindset was always underdog and that's how I attack
everything still to this day. So I'm so thankful and
I will never change even if I look back and
be like, man, if there was one wish, I would
love to do it ten times out of ten. But
I had that underdog mentality. So coming into this league,
my mindset was, Hey, I got the opportun unity with
(37:00):
the Texans in twenty thirteen at.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
The rookie Minnie Camp.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
I want to get back playing outdoor football. And I
think that speaks for every guy that plays in the IFL.
They want to get film and then move on. Unfortunately,
it's a business in the NFL and so you have
to accept that and enjoy where you are. And so
as time started going twenty fourteen, I was with the
Texas Revolution. Do you remember them over in the IFL. Yes,
(37:27):
that was my rookie season, and so being there, I
got to see some things where I was like, Okay,
I can beat in this league. Let me, you know,
continue to get better and be the best version of
myself every year. And so then the Barnstormers called me
in twenty fifteen, and that was my first year with
the Iowa Barnstormers, and I just wanted to be the
best person out there every game.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
In my mindset, I was the best person on the field.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
That's just how I attacked it every game, and I
wanted to just do what I could and enjoy my
career and make things happen. I had no clue that
I would be getting the call to get into the
IFL Hall of Fame. So twenty nineteen came around and
I got that call and I was like wait what,
like what you know, Like wait a minute? Me like man, Like,
(38:12):
I just wanted to go out there, put into work
every day, fly around the field, make my teammates better,
be the best captain, the leader on the field that
I could be, and just make things happen.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
But getting that call was the perfect close to.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
The chapter of my football career. So it was kind
of like that once I got that call, got to
experience the whole situation of being induct to the Hall
of Fame. That was the best closing that I could
have had to my football career because it was hard.
It was hard making that grown man decision of not
coming back for the twenty eighteen season where they won
(38:46):
the stack you know, you know, but the IFL championship.
They won the championship that year, so I'm like, man,
was it me that they But I was like, but
it was an awesome you know, watching them supporting them
from afar. But I think it was awesome close to
my chapter in my career.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Well respect there, man, I mean, that's great to hear
that you felt like it was the right time. I know,
it sucks to just miss certain moments. I mean, not
that it's any kind of comparison, but being a forty
nine Ers fan, I didn't really retain any of my
football fandom or watching until after they had won their
last Super Bowl with Steve Young, who happens to be
(39:26):
my favorite player. So I never got to see like
that moment or have that moment, and I don't know
if I would have really appreciated it at such a
young age. So just just missing those things it sucks.
But you know, there's a lot of things that you
wouldn't change for the world, and it sounds like you
know you're right up there with your decision on everything
that you did leading up to that. So with indoor football,
(39:48):
I mean defense, because the Hall of Fame is the
best of the best, right, elite club, but defense, I
feel like to get into the Hall of Fame for
indoor football, especially if you look back at its roots
and how additional arena football was played. I mean, defense
is almost non existent.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
You have to be not just.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Good, but that good to get a nod on the
defensive side of the ball for indoor football. I mean,
what was that aspect of it like for you as
far as your playing career and being like, man like that.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Is so true defense, right, you gotta love it when
you're on defense.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
And I know, I know, Malcolm over there, you love defenses.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
Well, you know it's near to heart, man.
Speaker 5 (40:28):
Defense is where it's at.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
It's true that they win championship, but in the arena
football people want to see scoring, high scoring games, high action, this,
this and that. My goal was to make those people mad, right.
I wanted to make sure. I wanted to make sure
that we stopped that from happening. But had a good
time to celebrated while we were added. In arena football,
at least in the IFL, the linebackers have to sit
(40:50):
back within five yards a five yard den for those
of us that know, we can't move before the ball snap,
so it allows them to run the football. And so
that already puts us in the disadvantage as a linebacker, right,
but we make things happen and you figure out ways
to make plays. And that was just my mindset. Make
a big play, no matter what it is. Run to
(41:11):
the ball, make a play. And so defense is just
it's fun when you get to fly around and let
alone you're the only linebacker out there. I was the
only one on the field as a linebacker. So the
team I love pressure. The team needed me. I needed
to make sure that I was in the right position
at the right time, making sure that my d line
was in the right spot, looking behind me, making sure
(41:31):
all my safeties and cornerbacks are in the right position
before I even thought about where I needed to go
once they said put. So it's an amazing feeling. You're
the quarterback of the defense, but you're still a leader
of the team because you're the heartbeat of the team.
So it was a great opportunity being able to make
the Hall of Fame being a defensive player in a
(41:52):
high scoring game.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Man, that's a level of eliteness that I can't even comprehend.
But I do love indoor football rules. I've always appreciated
that it gives love to the defense. And then, like
I said, there's gonna be a way of special teams
guys in the next five ten years that come up.
It's just like he let the league induces and who
knows and rouges and all the different things that you
could do in the league. But man, spoken like a
(42:18):
true Hall of famer and Malcol' go ahead and kick
it over to you to pick the linebacker's brain of
a Hall of Famer. And no, folks, they are not
identical twins. It just happens to be that elite linebacker
look that you're seeing in two windows. Malcolm had really
glasses so that you could know who was talking.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
This is the prototypical you know, base lab or the
linebacker look.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Man, every linebacker that looks like us is definitely adult.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Oh man, hey, hey, like you said, I certainly will
like we'd say it. Actually, I feel like defense definitely
doesn't get enough love.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Especially in the IFL.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
People say that the team goes or they live and
die with the quarterback play. I would argue as much
as true with a linebacker for sure too, because like
you said, there is you're the only linebacker on the
on the on the defense, and uh, you know, if
you're not playing at a high level, then the defense
just can't click, you know.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
So I got nothing but respect for you and your
game play.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Man. Having played linebacker myself, it's a it's something. It's
it's different, it's different, for sure, but I love it.
I love it too. My question to you, brother, I
would say, like we're saying you're in the Hall of Fame.
You know, you said that throughout the tenure of your career.
You really you were almost surprised when you get that
(43:41):
that Hall of Fame call. A lot of players they
kind of look forward to that having had like the
kind of career that you have. At any point in time,
was it about making the Hall of Fame or did
you always just want to play to the best of
your ability?
Speaker 5 (43:56):
So my mindset was to always I would always get told.
Speaker 4 (44:00):
By a lot of guys that have played in the League, Like, Hey,
you know you should be in the NFL, but unfortunately,
you know the circumstances.
Speaker 5 (44:07):
At hand, we are where we are right now.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
Right.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
It's not because you're not talented enough, you're not fast enough,
strong enough, blah blah blah.
Speaker 5 (44:13):
It's just how the kirky cumbles, right.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
And so in my mindset, I was like, just like,
I'm sure you are as an athlete.
Speaker 5 (44:19):
In your mindset, you're.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Like, I'm good, I'm great, Like I don't care what
anybody says, I'm great, right, Like, that's the mindset we have.
And so I wanted to do everything in my power.
When I look back on my career, I'm thirty five now,
finish around twenty seven, I'll be thirty five in December.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
I wanted to look back and be like, man, I
gave everything in.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
My power to be the best player on that field
and the best player on that team, however, and I
can look back and be perfectly fine with that. So
I didn't have that mindset of getting into the Hall
of Fame. And let me tell you why, because I
only played three and a half years in the ISFL.
That's the part that they didn't say I played twenty
fourteen Texas Revolution fifteen. I would Barnstormers half of the
(45:02):
twenty sixteen season because I went to the CFL for
their tryout camp and I came back on the second
half of the season and then all of twenty seventeen.
So I only played three and a half years realistically,
and so for me to get into the Hall of
Fame on three and a half year display of talent,
that is a big deal in my mind. And I
was like, man, that is a blessing. Shout out to
(45:24):
my guy Tyler Knight. When I came into the league.
They sent me his highlight tape. They were like, my
coach at the time in twenty fourteen is like, hey,
this is the best linebacker in the league.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
Watch his film. Check him out.
Speaker 4 (45:36):
So, you know, as a guy, young guy, I'm like, Okay,
I'm gonna check him out, but I'm gonna be my
own version of my own self, right, And that was
my goal.
Speaker 5 (45:42):
I want to go out there and be Jobs Jones.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
And I saw Tyler Knight balling out and I was like,
that's awesome, but I want to be Jobs Jones and
I want to ball out as well and make an
impact just like he.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
Was, man and make an impact. You did? You definitely did.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
I want to say my rookie season back in twenty one.
I didn't hear a lot of names coming around as
far as linebackers, but Javis Jones definitely was one of them.
You know, like, yeah, your game definitely precedes you when
it comes to uh, like you know, just your gameplay.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
So yeah, my congratulations on that. I do.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Got to ask you too, So you said you you
retired at twenty seven, So I mean, that's that's fairly
early when you when you ask some guys, I know,
guys who played well into their thirties, rare.
Speaker 1 (46:34):
Yeah, man, respect for sure.
Speaker 2 (46:40):
But I love I love watching linebacker play all over
the league or all over any league, especially NFL. Of course,
one of my favorites was Luke Keigley, and you know,
I remember watching his retirement video and how it got
kind of emotional. He said that, you know, he didn't
want to walk away, but at the same time, he
(47:02):
realized that he can only play the game at one speed,
and that's one hundred miles an hour. And when he
can do that how he wanted to, then he knows
this time, I hate to you know, bring it back
full circle, like I guess, kind of reminisce on the
what the I guess what Some would call it bad,
But what would you say was your moment where you
were like, you know, all right, I had enough, I've
(47:22):
done enough. This is this is damn for me, man, this.
Speaker 4 (47:25):
Is That's a great question, because honestly, I still think
I could go out there and play, not even know
right in my bet, I bet I know I could
go out there. So I was always blessed to be
able to take good care of my body, and I
would always be at the gym trying to motivate my
teammates to do the same. I wanted them to see, like,
this guy's putting in work and he's playing the whole
(47:47):
game besides offense, like kickoff, the defense, this, this, and that,
he's always in all game. What is he doing different
than what we're doing. Oh, this guy's you know, take
care of his body, putting in work. So I was
always told there's a time where you're done with football
or football is done with you.
Speaker 5 (48:03):
That's what I was always told.
Speaker 4 (48:04):
And so my mindset was like, Okay, I didn't want
to play in IFL after thirty. Like I was like,
you know, around that time, I wanted to start building
a business because it wasn't it didn't financially make sense.
And so see, yeah, so I had a personal training
business that I started right after college.
Speaker 5 (48:21):
In twenty fourteen, and I.
Speaker 4 (48:23):
Would do that for six months and then I would
go play arena football for six months. And so around
twenty seventeen, I think God was kind of like, hey, look,
I got this business opportunity for you to take. You
can go continue to play football. I'm gonna let you
do that, but when you're ready, I have this ready
for you. And so honestly, it was the last day,
what even last day was the day of when we're
(48:45):
supposed to report the training camp, you know, and I
just didn't go. I didn't go because I was just like, man,
I have this opportunity waiting for me. It just makes
sense to close on the defensive Player of the Year
chapter and things of that nature.
Speaker 5 (48:59):
And that's kind of what took off from there.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
And then my business, you know, by the grace of guys,
has blown up my training business. And so I think
he was just like, hey, I got something for you.
Continue doing your little thing. You have an awesome time,
enjoy had fun. You know, I have this on the
other side for you. So for me, I think that's
kind of what spoke to me because I would have
been back in twenty eighteen and I would have been
playing in that championship game.
Speaker 5 (49:23):
Yeah, it was right there. Let's go.
Speaker 4 (49:26):
But I'm glad that I was able to give some
you know, good inspiration to Zach.
Speaker 5 (49:34):
He took over as a linebacker then.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
And kind of help out to let the younger guys
go out there and do their thing. And Coach Dixie
never go he's doing so he's lost so much weight.
Speaker 5 (49:44):
He looks so amazing. So I'm like, man, who is this?
That's that coach is doing the thing man. And so
he's a great coach too.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
He everywhere he goes, he wins, and he knows how
to you know, build a team and make sure that
they go out there and be successful for sure.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
For sure. Man up man.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
Congratulations on the on the business side too, because I
mean it's a lot of people who you know, I
have a lot of respect for when they they know
the perfect time to walk.
Speaker 1 (50:10):
Away from the game.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Like you said, either you're done with football, the game
of football is done with you. Far too many people
play up until they literally can anymore, you know, you know,
they walk away with so many injuries and stuff. They're
like in their thirties and they're walking like they're sixty,
you know.
Speaker 1 (50:26):
So I mean I.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
Got the utmost respectful guys who know when to you know,
just respectfully step away from the game and move on
to that next chapter of their life. And it looks
like you've done that successfully, man. So the gratulations for you, yeah,
for sure. Good luck to you know you and your
business and everything, bro. And uh yeah, yeah up, I'm
going back to rich for sure. I mean because I
(50:51):
think I get all I need.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (50:54):
Crazy to hear all this stuff from from Javits one,
hearing that you were only in it for three and
a half years, I mean obviously, like you can't put
a time frame on on greatness, right uh He Malcolm
mentioned Luke Keikley. I'm a Patrick Willis guy. Both had
you know, shorter careers, but I mean what they did
in that time and then here I am, you know,
(51:15):
going into this is year nine for me thinking like have.
Speaker 1 (51:17):
I done enough? Like am I like? Where am I at?
Speaker 3 (51:20):
On the spectrum of things, but no man to have
the impact you did in such a short amount of
time as just a testament to your athletic ability. Be
careful how loudly you say that you still think you
could come back, because Green Bay dragged bj Hill back a.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
Couple of times. He was Hall of Famer so well.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
As far as the Hall of Fame finalists, one guy
that I know you played with. I have a tremendous
amount of respect for Brady Rowland and uh he was
actually in the early days of the Fans Show when
I was doing Player of the Game and doing the tour,
he was part of the first Cope Player of the Game.
It was him and Bryce Enyard. I believe both had
(52:04):
phenomenal games. Dixie coached the Game of a Season that
year as well. That was very early Dixie Wooton stuff
we were seeing. But the dude is a Swiss Army
knife around that era, probably Wes Welker, Julian Edelman are
names that come to mind as far as comparison. What
was your takeaway from playing with Brady and what do
(52:26):
you think of him? As far as being named among
the finalists for this.
Speaker 4 (52:29):
Year man, Brady was an awesome teammate, but even better player.
He was the guy who would just suit up and
go dominate on the field and then go about his
business for the rest of the day. And so the
guy was an amazing athlete, makes plays happen. When a
big play needed to happen on offense, you can look
for Brady. They were gonna throw them the ball, and
(52:49):
he was making some spectacular plays. He was a small
school guy as well, and so it was I always
support that, and you know, I respect that because I
know the hustle and the grind and what it takes
to get into position to try to be the best
you can be.
Speaker 5 (53:04):
And so he had that same hunger.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
And Brady Rowland was always out there making big plays
when the time when they called his name, you know,
like he was a great receiver and like an even
better guy. So I can't speak much highly of him
because he's just He's just an awesome dude topped the
bottom and somebody you would always want on your team
and that you would play hard for. Clinton Solomon. I
played with him my first year in Arena football, and
(53:28):
he was he was a veteran kind of guy, so
he knew the game and he dominated the game as well.
Frankie Solomon Junior my rookie year in Dallas, I watched
that guy make plays happen. I know Frankie definitely got
one of my votes. Brady got one of my votes.
Coach Coach Todd tryon over there.
Speaker 5 (53:48):
You know that.
Speaker 4 (53:49):
His historic career with the Supe Fall Storm. I played
against those historic teams of the Sue Fall Storms before
they made the rule where you only can have six.
Speaker 1 (53:58):
So bet yeah, yes, I played against those teams. Man.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
Those were some powerful teams before they made that rule.
Nebraska Danger to Fall Storm. They had all the events
and their guys that played so well together my rookie
year and in twenty fifteen and twenty sixteen, we took
them to the wire, but they always knew how.
Speaker 5 (54:18):
To win because they were championship teams.
Speaker 4 (54:19):
But there's some great names on this list and it's
gonna be a good little battle.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
Man, it's so great to catch up with you. Thank
you so much for taking the time. It was a
nice change of pace for me and Milk here to
talk to somebody that's been there, done that, got the
T shirt or in your case, the ring.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
Yes, yes, Man, I appreciate y'all inviting me in here
to just kind of, you know, talk about my journey
and talk about everything.
Speaker 5 (54:43):
It's always nice to do that. I get to do
it with athletes that I train now, so it's always cool.
Speaker 4 (54:48):
I still have the better HBK stance than you do.
But no, man, it was awesome. It was an awesome
chapter of my life. Man, and I appreciate you all
for allowing me to come on here and talk about it.
Speaker 5 (55:03):
So thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
Rich one more time he is Barnstormer Royalty IFL Hall
of Famer, Javat's job Beast Jones of the IFL Hall
of Fame. Thank you so much for your time, man,
and hey, we'll hopefully talk to you sooner rather than later.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
But you take care of yourself, yes, sir, you too.
Speaker 5 (55:22):
Thank y'all so much.
Speaker 3 (55:23):
All right, one more big thank you to Jove Eats
for joining us here. Like I said, nice change of pace.
Get somebody who has been there and had a tremendous
impact in the league. But it is Hall of Fame season.
Clearly there are finalists. Go and vote, but now we
get to our picking portion and I gotta I gotta say.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
This is like two weeks in a row. The players
are like trying.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
I feel like it's poaching you, Malk like it's I
need a co host. But they're just like, hey, come
play again. It's like, I don't know, I don't know
what's going on.
Speaker 2 (55:54):
But man, maybe it's the football guys we talked so
much about, Man, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (56:00):
Well, what's gonna happen is that you're going to train
with Javiat's and then you're gonna end up on the
same team as Claude and Reek Havoc defensively, Like, that's
that's the that's the script I'm writing for next season
for you.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
He speaking of Man's. That's the best case scenario right there.
Speaker 3 (56:17):
All right, so short pick them this week. There's only
two games the conference championships, and there's no games Saturday
or Sunday. It is Friday and Monday, like okay, So
they got time to fix the streams in between if
they need to. We'll see if better than fifty percent
of the streams will be working. But the first one
(56:39):
is the blizzard taking on the Massachusetts Pirates in Green Bay.
So the Pirates surprise. I think everybody we were talking
about how that pick them and Frisco seem like a gimme,
but apparently post season Frisco is a very real thing.
Like Wow, I don't know if it's a curse or what,
(57:02):
but anyway, the Pirates mean business. They're a game away
from the championship. They've been there, done that. The Blizzard
have not. So, Malk this is going to be probably
the toughest pick for you, maybe the other game too,
but let's hear where your mind's at for this one.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Man, You're right, You're right.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
This is a tough pick to make by any stretch
of the imagination. Really, both teams playing great Mass coming
off of that that heartbreaking win against For Frisco fans,
I'm sure, but man, they're playing some good ball. They're
playing a lot better than I thought they would at
(57:40):
this point, and I'm impressed for sure. But at the
same time, like I said earlier, green Bay is certainly
playing some good ball. They have been for the last
stretch of the season going into the postseason, and I
think that they're a little more consistent than Mass at
this point. So I'm taking I'm taking Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (58:00):
So here's what I love about this matchup is that
it is a rubber match, which I'm still not sure
what that means, but anyway, it's the best of three, right,
So first week of the season, Mass goes into Green
Bay beats them forty four to forty and then fast
forward like two thirds of the way through the season,
(58:22):
if not a little later, and then Green Bay goes
in the Mass for the rematch and.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
Beats them there thirty six thirty three.
Speaker 3 (58:28):
So they've exchanged blows, they've beaten each other in each
other's house, and now they're back in Green Bay for
the best of three, the most important one obviously of
the series this season. So I like green Bay. The
rec Center, if you saw the last broadcast, was rocking.
That fan base has been begging for postseason football in
(58:49):
Green Bay. And yeah, Mass loves to play spoiler. They
just did it. But I don't know. It feels like
there is something in the air in Green Bay right now,
and I think think they're going to ride with that.
But you gotta play sixty minutes of football against Mass.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
You can't.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
You can't mail it in in the fourth quarter or
whatever happened with Frisco. But it's gonna have to be
sixty minutes of borderline mistake free football. But I still
like Green Bay, so we both like Green Bay for
that one. And then Monday, So fast forward Saturday Sunday
to Monday, and we have another best of three. The
San Diego strike Force, who just dethroned the reigning champs.
(59:29):
Bay Area Panthers take on the Arizona Rattlers in Arizona,
who just took down Vegas after they got the best
of them in the regular season series. So now we
have two teams that have split the series with each other.
And I believe San Diego also beat Arizona in Arizona.
That was a Dalton sneedless Arizona Rattlers, But then San
(59:53):
Diego got beat by Arizona that I think was forty
seven to forty six. Was that game later in the seas.
So clearly four teams this weekend that know each other
very well looking to get the best of three. I
liked the San Diego Strikeforce, not just because of who
they're playing, but I just like what San Diego is
(01:00:13):
doing going into the postseason. We said this is possibly
the most dangerous team in the league right now, and
they showed that against Bay Area so Malc, what about you?
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
I agree, I want to.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
I want to high like the fact that they are
playing your your favorite team.
Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
A funny thing too.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
I saw this with this when they get this past weekend,
I think they said Kevin Guy is now the most
winning this coach, the.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
Active coach in the IFL.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Right now, I was gonna waiting to see, like whether
or not you would like the post.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
I don't just see that probably burns you up inside.
Back to back to the game. I definitely agree with you.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
I'll take SDE because I just think, like, like you said,
they're a dangerous team right now. And I mean like
it's kind of like with Arizona their last game, it
was kind of like a wild card win, if you will.
I don't think anybody expected it. I don't even think
they fully expected.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
To beat Bay Area.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Really the only person who probably thought they would is
Kevin gam So. But with San Diego, it's almost no
question as to what they're gonna do weekend and week out,
coming off of a performance that they had this past weekend. Man,
I think they're still running at and they're they're ready
to go to the championship. So San Diego for.
Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Sure, Yeah, it's tough to pick a team with momentum
because all four teams have it. They had to win
to advance to this round, so exact momentum is on
everybody's side. But obviously we saw three or four teams
that had halftime leads lose. We saw you know, two
number two seeds both lose to or seeds. I mean
(01:02:01):
there's only one one seed left in the mix, and
then there's you know, a four and two threes. So
it's it's crazy how things have played out. But obviously
there's not gonna be a punishment. Maybe we'll figure out
something that we can do collectively if somehow we're both
wrong for both games. This is like a co punishment.
But that does bring us to the portion of the
(01:02:23):
show where Malcolm gets tell me another punishment that he
has in store for me as we are in postseason
form and one of the last punishments of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, And I'm gonna use this opportunity
to keep the Marble mojo flowing. You know, we've talked
about it so much. I think that it's only right to,
you know, pick a punishment that had.
Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
Something to do with Marvel movies.
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
So I want to say it wasn't this past weekend.
It was the weekend before last. So it is a
really cool picture of the like the cover art for
the Wooverine.
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Old dadpol Will Marine movie.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
I can find a picture somewhere, but I want to
see your best rendition of that picture. I want to
see you style your hair, like, do what you can whatever,
whatever like moose or or ball you have to put
in there. I want to see it. Put on the
clothes you know. Hey, if you can find a cigar,
(01:03:25):
you know as well. But I want to see a
side by side with you, and then the picture I
will send you. And uh, I think the Marble fans
love it, man, the fans show Marble fans. Man, it's
a it's a good it's a good deal, man, especially
given the timeframe we have now.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
So yeah, I would I would love to see that,
all right, that's fair and that's very doable.
Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
And yes, I will do my best cover, comic cover
pose or whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
This This will be a good one.
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
So we've only got uh one weekend postseason left before
the championship, but we've got two more rounds of IFL
football officially before we close out the season, and MALC
and I are still taking donations at our GoFundMe to
help cover the remaining costs, but we're looking forward to
being down there and having a good time and giving
(01:04:17):
you some quality coverage. Also, quick shout out to Tyrone
Laughing House man. He called it a career and I
remember watching House play for several different teams, the Wichita
Falls and Ihawks, the Carolina Cobras. The dude was one
of the elite receivers for a long time, so he's
hanging up the cleats. I invited him to come join
(01:04:38):
me in malk for the pregame at the championship, so
we'll see if he takes us up on it. But
congrats to him on a great career. And yeah, I
think that's everything. I forgot to mention that last week,
but shout out to Laughing House.
Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Great dude.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
So anyway, that will do it for episode four hundred
and ninety seven. You can watch us on YouTube and
you can hear us on all the podcast platforms that
you know and love, Apple, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and spreaker dot com.
So until next time, for Father Malik Malcolm McCoy, I'm
the team man, Richard Tieman, this has been another exciting
episode of the Fans Show and we will see you
(01:05:14):
next time.
