Meet Michael Kasumovic, a highly motivated evolutionary biologist from UNSW who started creating apps for his students so they could understand biology concepts. From this Arludo was born, a team of dedicated people that empower students to understand scientific thinking through gaming. We explore just what is truly important for people to consider when creating apps and as you'll find, it's not just about the coding.

Hosted by Ben Newsome from Fizzics Education

About Michel Kasumovic

Michael is an Associate Professor at UNSW Sydney. An award winning
evolutionary biologist and science communicator, Michael explores the
role the social environment has on how individuals develop and behave.
These interests have resulted in him working on a number of different
species throughout his career from birds, to spiders, to crickets, and
now humans. Using video games to explore human choices and preferences,
Michael has shown that although there may be a few hundreds of millions
years between the evolution of his earlier subjects and humans,
surprisingly, they behave in very similar ways. Michael now uses what
he's learned to create video games through his company Arludo that help
teachers and students around the world easily perform science
experiments to learn more about the world around them.

About Arludo

Arludo's mission is to improve scientific thinking for students of all genders, ages, and socioeconomic levels. To do this, Arludo is creating a
library of free educational apps and games for mobile devices that help
students work together and think critically about different scientific
problems. As they use the apps and games, students unknowingly collect
scientific data which are displayed in front of the class. This allows
teachers to speed up the scientific process and help students explore
data, helping them become data literate. They helping teachers turn
their students into scientists.
