(00:00):
Hi everybody. This is justin thehoary Urchin and before we start our show,
i'd like to remind you to likeand subscribe to our podcast on iTunes.
Please give us a ranking, preferablyall the stars, and give us
a view, preferably glowing. We'dalso like to talk to all of our
listeners and answer any questions that youall might have, for example, why
do this or for what purpose?Or will Erica ever find love? Well?

(00:24):
Email us at the Heavenly Mandate allone word, the Heavenly Mandate at
gmail dot com. That's the HeavenlyMandate at gmail dot com. And maybe
you can be that special someone Ericahas been looking for. Without further ado,
onto the show, I like tosort of gauge your opinion on the

(00:59):
Cage. What's your relationship to whomin his work? When did you first
discover your cage, your inner cage? And how has cage made your life
better? Interesting? Let's see.I would say the first time I ever
saw Nicholas Cage like and knowingly, was watching a Nicholas Cage movie, probably

(01:21):
I was about six and it wasRaising Arizona, probably the og Cohen Brothers
film. At the time, Icertainly did not know who Nicholas Cage was,
or the Cohen brothers or anything elseabout it, but I do remember
being somewhat impressed by more the overallstrangeness of the film and my parents having

(01:42):
to explain what the premise of thefilm was, which is why I would
still like to revisit that one.But after that, probably the next thing
would have been probably All the Wayto Face Off. That's probably the next
time I saw a movie with him, because I got really into uh shit,
what's his name, John Move?Yeah, I got really into John

(02:05):
wus stuff, So anytime I knewJohn Woomybe came out, I would definitely
be about it. So I thinkit was probably that one or The Rock.
Those are both very close releases.I'm not positive which one was first,
but needless to say, I didnot become a cage of File immediately,
but I definitely paid attention when hismovies came out. So there's no

(02:28):
Tom Cruise, no offense Nick. But at the same time, oh yeah,
oh i wa, I'm a I'vebeen a Tom Cruise fan boy since
I was like four years old.For sure, Tom. I think Tom
Cruise is like the Dreamboat of thenineties for like young girls. I didn't
know that ultimate like the ultimate symolof masculinity at the time as well.

(02:50):
So yeah, if you had been, He's like, I know, why
do you think I identified with him? If you had here during the Kung
Fu season. We have several uh, we have several tom that happened throughout
the you know, like before hewent all crazy and outwardly scientology, like

(03:14):
like it's hard to like, it'shard to explain. Like I was talking
to Madic because we watched Last Amarai. It's one of the film love watching.
It's like I try to explain tomy son, like how big and
how influential Tom Cruise was. It'sit's it's it's amazing he had, Like
it's still kind of isn't He stillhas that he has It's a diminished publicity

(03:35):
clout, but he has the samekind of clout in Hollywood that he always
said, Which is why I hadno idea why him and Nicholas Cage can
never occupy the same film because itwould create a vacuum that would the universe.
That would be the fourth way NicholasCage would destroy the universe. And

(03:57):
yet I think it probably kind ofcame into Nicholas Cage. I'm not trying
to make an innuendo there, butin the mid nineties when he was kind
of becoming like the mainstream Hollywood actor. Yeah, I mean I think he
was the number one paid actor atthat time. I mean he was huge.

(04:20):
I mean, other than he's probablystole in that couple. Uh and
then kind of on the on thebook ends of his of his career.
I mean, we're assuming this is, you know, the third part of
his career and then he's not goingto be hundred years old. But you
know, those have been some ofthe really interesting movies. True. I
mean so, I mean I've alwaysbeen the opinion that Nicholas Cage can make

(04:43):
a great movie, fantastic and ahorrendous movie watchable. Yeah. That is
that more or less is his moo no matter what he's doing, And
all credit to him on that weirdfun he found. How about you,
Erica, have you heard of Nick? Yeah? I didn't know. Yeah,
I didn't know Nick Cage is athing until last season or when we

(05:06):
watched two seasons ago, when wewatched Color. Yeah, yeah, I
don't know. I feel like Iliterally had very like no opinion of Nick
Cage. He was an actor.I knew he was Francis Ford Coppola's nephew,
but like changed his name to differentinitiate himself or something like that.

(05:27):
That's a bit at least. Yeah, And I saw his future grave in
New Orleans and then realized he wasa weirdo and like a series about like
he literally is a pyramid built forhimself and was married by like a priestess
or something. So you know,I have glimpses of his nuttiness. You

(05:47):
know, it's funny. I II'm trying to think of a movie that
I like. The movies that you'vementioned, I haven't seen. So what
did I watch with Nick Cage?And it's like, I haven't seen Nicholas
Cage Treasure? No, you neverseen that. No, it's fine adaptation.
I hated it. Just that wasin one of those in between periods.

(06:11):
I saw that, and I heardthat, I know that amazing reviews.
But Erica you probably Vegas, Ohyes, City of Angels hated that
too. That that was real.I was so pissed off in the end.
Are we gonna watch that? This? Absolutely? But definitely that was

(06:32):
in the same era, because Ido remember watching that and I did hate
it because of how bitter the endingwas. See, I hated it for
that. This is a bunch ofbullshit. I sat through all this nonsense
and it was all for nothing. You give up immortality for five Watch you
watch Nicholas Sparks movies, because that'sexactly a Nicholas Sparks story, the only

(06:55):
Nicholas Okay, hold up, Ireally like a walk to remember for that
is accurate. That's not bad.I'll admit that one's not terrible. That
one's I'm gonna go and say manymore never had leukemia? Oh oh she
did? That's right? Yeah, yeah, probably. I'm glad that you

(07:18):
guys have all seen this. RememberActually, can we I remember it better?
Can we? Can we? See? I love her more? Nothing?
She enough. It would be ashort season, but she's like a
full time actress now. I mean, she don't release an album. But

(07:39):
we could switch, or we couldjust watch an entire season of Scrubs,
which I'm down with. Still themost realistic medical probably that's ever been made.
Well, I don't know if you'rejoking or not. I've never seen
it. No, no Scrubs isactually probably one of the more realistic Michaels.
Yeah, that's really cool because it'sway way more really Susan Gray's Anatomy.

(08:03):
I can't believe that that show isstill on like that. I didn't
know it. Watch it? Whowatches it? They're going to spin it
off into Gray's pathology. Next,Wait, is that another boat? No?
No, because they're all going tobe dead so much wit to go
around. Dash uses the same tonefor his joke as like everyday life,

(08:28):
so all the titles like, wait, is that a joker you see?
No? No, I'm serious. That's just it's brilliant. It's the Ryan
Reynolds approach to delivery. You justsay the same same tone for everything you
say. So no one, canwe do a Ryan Reynolds? Yes,
I know that's mostly He's beautiful greator or Ryan Gospeling. He can mixed

(08:54):
with the Ryan Reynolds one. That'sfine. Anyways, that's the point justin
about we'll do We'll do a Ryanonly Ryan all Ryan. We are going
to focus on Nick. Okay,we're not. We're not giving Nicholas his
due Nicholas Coppola cage by the way. Okay, since we're back on his

(09:16):
subject. We all know why thatis his stage name. His nom did
stage is at the French or Idon't think so, probably not. My
French is very rusty. Why whyhe's not Why he's not Nicholas, Well,
we all like, like Erica said, no, that's because he didn't
want to have the appearance of nepotismto get parts, so he intentionally changed

(09:39):
his surname to something else. Butwhy he changed his name to something else
is because he is an enormous comicbook nerd, a big Marvel guy,
and uh, he's a big admirerof Luke Cage, the the black power
superhero from like the late seventies, like the weird blaxploitation Marvel comics. So

(10:05):
he decided he would adopt the surnameof that particular superhero as his instead of
Johnny Blaize, who is his favoritecharacter, ghost Rider, which is why
he eventually became ghostwriter in movies becausethat's his favorite character. But I believe
there might have been some sort ofdispute, like the Screen Actors Guild already
had somewhere in their roles like NicholasBlaze listed, so he couldn't claim that

(10:31):
same one, so he went tolike his next favorite character. It's like
a license plate. It's vanity plate. Nerdy. Yeah, do you ever
think like what you would pick foryour like stage name. I mean,
I have no one else in theworld has my name, so I'm pretty
sure I can just use my realname the screen actress. I'm always changing

(10:54):
my name, that is true.I mean obviously I do too. I
do the same thing, but Imean as far as the stage name,
I don't. I don't need tohave one. I'm you know, I
first saw Nick Cage with my grandmaat her house. She watched Peggy Sue
Got Married. What you Haven't Seenwith Kathleen Turner is a really good movie.

(11:16):
And then I think I saw Moonstrucknext with my grandma, and that's
with share and those two films.Moonstruck in particular is a film that really
really screams Nick Cage. I thinkI don't know if we're gonna watch it.
I think we might watch it thisseason. I think it might be
on the list. I don't rememberthe list off the top of my head,
but like, there's a scene inthe Moons Truck that's so fucking bizarre.

(11:37):
It's so fucking overacted that it makesno sense. And how all the
characters respond to Nick Cage in thatmoment makes no sense based on how he's
actings so weird, but it worksbecause he's such a fucking weirdo in it.
And that's how I first fell inlove with the late. Once again,

(12:01):
he's not dead he could be,but still living and making movies because
he's now playing Dracula. Let's oh, that is going to be a fantastic
bad movie. That's a really coolthing is that? Like he gave an
interview last year, I think he'snow officially out of debt, so he's
like, now I can choose filmsthat I actually like to do, versus

(12:22):
all the films I've made for thelast twenty years where I have to do.
Did you really say that? Yeah? He has. He's literally give
it, give it two years anddinsaur bones won't buy themselves. And when
you're paying off the debt of asmall nation essentially that is your estate,

(12:43):
then why did his dead go sohigh with you? Just yees spending problem?
A extravagant profligate spender. He willnot stop himself from spending of stuff
that doesn't have any you know, pyramids for your future death, dinosaurs,

(13:03):
skeletons, rocket ships, like,he doesn't care, He'll just he'll buy
anything you find that interview that soundsreally funny. Famously, he bought the
first Superman cartoon or first comic.Yeah, the first Action Comics number one
with Superman. Yep, he ownsthat. I mean, that's he could

(13:24):
afford that. I thought it wasa party or something whether, but then
found eleven years later when it wassold for auction here, I would have
expected him to mount an elaborate heistto get it back. He owns a
rare tarbaus head Tarbosaurus that's extinct nowthat's considered part of Trannosaurus now they I

(13:50):
thought. I thought he had togive that up though, Yeah, maybe
because it's what belongs to pre history. Who's who's the diynasts or bones.
I feel like, if anything, those are the one thing that's free to
anybody, it's dinosaurs. I justlooked it up and it had to be
returned to Mongolia because they were stolenfrom the Mongolian government. So yeah,

(14:13):
that makes sense, that makes sense. He owns two private islands in the
Bahamas as one, and he ownsreturn one of them owns over fifteen homes
across the world, including a twentyfive million waterfront or fifty million countryside home
in Newport, Rhode Island. SoJosh, you could probably go visit him

(14:35):
if you felt like, oh yeah, yeah, I haven't Newport. Oh
yeah, well isn't that isn't thatwhere the pewterss live in? Family guy,
I believe the whole the whole thingis that it's just rich assholes in
that town. So so okay,But here's the thing, all that stuff.

(14:56):
I feel like you could if youdidn't win that much debt. I
feel like you could sell your homes, you could some of that, Like,
I feel like you could get outof that is a certain amount attachment
to some of the stuff he's purchased. So he's what is that noise?
Sorry, I'm getting a weird buzznot buzz, but like, okay,
it's gone. Nope. Is yourmic sounds like a wind blowing against the

(15:22):
mic. That's what it sounds like. But I didn't change anything. I'm
not hearing me. It's just disappeared. He's also been divorced quite a few
times. Has to pay like alimonyout yes, which is good. Yeah.
I mean before Kanye went crazy,he had a few points. Yeah.

(15:48):
And he also My favorite thing aboutDecage is that he owned the famous
uh Laalarie mansion in New Orleans, the famous lady who tortured slaves. And
now you own that one. Youown that building. Yeah, so it's
I think he had to sell it. He sold a lot of this stuff.
I only owned this stuff anymore, but a lot of it has been
sold. He had a collection Iremember of pick me heads, like a

(16:11):
world massive coction. That's so dope. That's do you think we reached out
to him like mid season? Hecould, we could get into podcast.
I don't know. I feel there'sno possibility of that because ecentric and I

(16:32):
would say if there is, ifthere is a celebrity we could pick where
there's a possibility a sliver, NicholasCage is not out of that realm,
Like, yeah, we could sendwe could send a million. That won't
happen. I feel like Nichols Cagemight just do it use you. But
I don't know, Cage. Idon't think we want to check in at

(16:55):
all. You're good the act theactor who played loop O Big Dicta.
So I don't know if Cage willcome on our podcast. Loopo from the
first season ignored my tweets to him, sadly tweet him, yeah, today
we're doing it. We reviewed yourfilm. You should come talk to us
about it, and he never responded, ungrateful, probably because he probably listened

(17:18):
and just heard you make it well, not just me, we all do.
Let's not throw all the loophole gillon me fair, we're ever going
to talk about this movie the movietoday Before we do that. I've gotta
now, I've gotta just I justgot a rock one. This has been
too long. I would like tothank Shane Ivers for allowing us to use

(18:03):
his track Tremendium under a Creative Commonslicense. Thank you, one two,
