Speaker 1 (00:21):
What is going on everybody. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome back to
another edition of the John and Randalls Football Experience. My
name is John Vino, and joining me as always is
my main man, Randall Renau Randall. It's twenty twenty five,
the first one.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Of twenty twenty five. John, you know, twenty five is
a good number for me. It was my number at
the Mount. I love it. It's near and dear to me,
which means twenty five for me and you. The year
is gonna be a great one and it's gonna be
a great one for the Patriots, the Celtics, the Bruins,
and the Redstocks. I'm all the great things that of
(00:58):
all of them, all of them.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Wow, that's that's an interesting uh. I guess mid your
hope for you or near your wish. But I'm happy
that you had to be something that you're trying to
to put out in the universe to to will to existence.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
The only thing I'm really putting out there in the universe, John,
is for you to be content with what's gonna be
a heartbreaking into the Rams season that you're.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Setting me up. You're setting me up for a loss already. Huh.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I'm sorry, I'm just John. I know we're gonna get
in some more of these, but the way some of
these teams are playing, I mean, the Vikings, even with
the horrible defense Detroit has been having, just Green Bay,
I mean it. I still think Cincinnati is gonna win
it all. But again, we'll get there. I just don't
(01:54):
exactly I said. We'll talk about that in a second, John,
but I'm just saying the Rams path, the Rams pat
It's gonna be tough. And I am shocked though. I
am shocked about the rams Kyine Williams. Yeah, a little
bit of a snub on the Pro Bowl, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I mean I think he I think he's definitely gotten snubbed.
I was surprised to not see at least one more
player from the Rams on the on the team. Obviously,
Jared Verse was selected. I think he was their loan selection,
which I thought was interesting. But you know, the Pro
Bowl is what it is. I'm not really I'm not
really gonna judge everything off the Pro Bowl. Obviously, I
(02:34):
think I know who was it.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Was it the Pro Bowl or was it all Pro?
Speaker 1 (02:38):
I think it was both because I think well maybe
all no, they all Pro hasn't come out yet because
the All Pros based on the whole season. The Pro
Bowl voting did come out the other day.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
There were a couple of guys that had snubs and
I did snubs, and usually there's always snubs. This year, yeah,
but this year I thought there was more than normal,
just because you had guys that were first in there,
it ranked naturally. Like James Cook, I believe it was
like first and touchdowns, No, and he got snubbed.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I don't think first.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
I think Derrick Henry.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Barkley both had more than him. But yeah, I don't know.
So I guess we should start with quick hits, right
with what quick hits? Quick hits? Uh, it's been quite
a while since you and I spoke, because it hasn't
it's been since Christmas Eve morning that we recorded our
(03:35):
last episode on that Tuesday. That was wedged between weeks
fifteen and or sorry, sixteen and seventeen. So the end
of Week sixteen was the Monday night and then we
had games on Christmas Day, and those two Christmas Day
games were kind of bold duds. The Chiefs kind of
blew out the Steelers, the Ravens kind of blew out
the Texans. And it wasn't really a great scene. Those
(03:57):
were the two teams that had played the Saturday prior,
and honestly, they gave us really nothing of value on
that day. Obviously, the Chiefs, to you, have not been
fun to watch. They're now fifteen to one. They locked
up the one seed. We're not gonna see Mahomes this
upcoming weekend. It'll be Carson Wentz playing for them. And
the Ravens really did put themselves in a great spot
(04:19):
in the driver's seed, if you will, in this upcoming weekend.
So I guess the quick kit that I have to
ask you about here is what was a bigger letdown
to you the Steelers kind of rolling over and they've
continued to have this trend of losing lately because they've
not played well over their last several games, or the
Ravens kind of reaffirming with their thirty one to two
(04:40):
win over the Texans that they might be the team
to beat that's coming out of the division. Even though
you were just telling me about the Bengals, Randall, I
want you to talk about the other two teams.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
I mean, the Steelers have done a complete excuse me
one a term because they were they were incredible, right,
you know, you're winning some games that you probably shouldn't
have won early on in the season with a quarterback
that has been you know, and then all of a
(05:12):
sudden you put Rust in and they let Russ cook.
Russ was cooking. But like you said, over the last
couple of weeks, it's just not looking the same and
one of those things that might not be the same
as George Pickens right for the Steelers because saw the
interception rush through I believe it was last week. George
Pickens kind of looks like he stopped running a little bit,
(05:34):
slowed down, had to speed back up right through the interception. Well,
that's not the first time we've seen him take plays off, right,
He took a playoff against I forget who was against
last year. John I'm not sure if you remember the
running back Warren going in for a touchdown needed a
(05:55):
block and George Pickens did not throw the block, and
he was very open about saying, yeah, no, I'm not
doing that.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, I think I think you So there's I think
Deontay Johnson may have been involved in this play that
you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Last year, it was George P. Johnson was U. I
don't think was he with the Steelers last year?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, I mean this is the I think that's the
reason they got rid of him.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
No, it was it was George Pickens. John I'm pretty positive.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I don't think so. But if regardless, I know what
you're getting at is they've both had their issues. So
whether it is him or not is in it is
really not relevant because he had this issue now. And
I think even the interview that they showed of him
in the locker room this past week talking about Russell
Wilson him not being on the same page, and he
didn't even want to address it to anybody afterwards, like.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
He it was it was George Pickens. I just kind
of affirmed it.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Okay, Well, there's also one with Deontay Johnson that you
can go look it up.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
So we're something's going on over there then.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
But yeah, So I guess the point I'm trying to
make is that George Pickens, You're not wrong. He's not
on the same page with Russell Wilson. And they've lost
these three straight games to teams that are all pretty
good teams. But I think that's inherently the problem here
is that they are going to end up playing good
teams in the playoffs. So if you can't beat the
teams in front of you that are where you are,
(07:21):
which will be the playoffs, then you're not going to
have a good time. And that showed itself a little
bit with this loss to the Chiefs, but also the
loss to prior Saturday to the Ravens and before that
the week before against the Eagles. So the Steelers I
think right now, well they do firmly have the playoff
spot clinched. They're going to the playoffs one way or
(07:42):
the other. Whether they end up taking that division back
or not is likely not going to happen as long
as the Ravens can win. But if they go to
the playoffs, they're gonna have to get some things figured out.
And I think the biggest one that you just mentioned
is Pickings getting back on the same page with Wilson.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yeah, I mean, I think as is again on the
same page, or just get him out of town, because
I mean again, Deontay correct, Yes, men, talent though the
mess talent so was Deontay Johnson. Deontay Johnson was a
great but yet he can't find a home. Deontay Johnson can't.
(08:18):
He's not exactly. He's on his third team in the year.
What does that tell you the Ravens. The Ravens couldn't
even hold on them. And the same thing goes for
George Pickens. I think there's just when you got a
guy that doesn't want to block for your team, when
you've got a guy that doesn't want to run his
route right because he might not be getting targets hurt
as many, it looks like, yeah, that's just bad. It's
(08:40):
it's the Jimmy Butler effect in basketball. What's going on
right now? And they just suspended him for it. He
didn't want to be there and and every right desert,
you shouldn't be getting paid. You're being lazy conduct detrimental
to the team. It's simple and right now and right now,
that's what's going on on with the Steelers again again
(09:03):
because you had the whole Leveon Bell stuff that was
going on. It feels like it's never ending right now
with the Steelers, Sean, and they have talented players. You
had Deon, Tate Johnson and George Pickens, and you're wasting
you have this defense and t J. Watt, you're wasting
them and they haven't looked good the last three weeks
(09:23):
either on the defensive side, and that's supposed to be
their bread and butter. So needless to say, Ravens more impressive.
Steelers are just they're long gone, long long gone, and
Cincinnati's gonna blow them up.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
The story of the Ravens season has been Lamar Jackson, obviously,
and he accounted for three more touchdowns in this game.
But obviously they only gave up two points defensively, and
those two points came out of safety obviously, so it
was really an excellent effort. There was no points given
up by the Ravens defense, and I think that's maybe
one of their best all around performances of the season.
(10:00):
But you can say what you want about the Texans two.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Yeah, I mean you can say, hey, they were missing
a couple guys on the offensive side. I understand that,
But it was a butt whooping. It doesn't matter if
you're playing the Bears the Tennessee Titans, right like, it
doesn't matter who you're playing. What was the final score
of something to thirty thirty one to two. Thirty one
(10:26):
to two is a butt whooping. It doesn't matter who
you're playing. That's that's a statement when the Ravens are
looking to finally, finally, and I think of it like this.
I think, if Josh Allen wins the MVP, Lamar is
gonna make the playoff run. If Lamar wins the MVP,
(10:46):
then Josh Allen's gonna make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Okay, I like them.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Whoever doesn't win the MVP, they're the ones that are
gonna be taking their game to the teams to the
next level in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
I like the way that logic is. I really do.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
And we're gonna find out if it's happened, it's gonna
be true.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah. Well, the two Christmas Day games, I don't know
if you saw, you know the ratings comparison to the NBA,
because the NBA is always beyond Christmas. But the NFL
crushed them. And despite the fact that it was on
Netflix and the two combined scores were sixty to twelve
for the two races, right for the Yeah, it's great,
it's absolutely nuts, But that is the NFL.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
John. Yeah, I I'm a Celtics fan. Yeah, right, Celtics.
Celtics were on Christmas Day. I was watching some of
the game for the Celtics, but I was also watching NFL.
I was thumping back and forth. But the other games,
I didn't even sniff them. I knew there were I
knew there were there were games on. I didn't even.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Care the scorers being what they were.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Even with them being what they were, it's Lebron was
saying football has no place on Christmas. The NBA is
king on Christmas.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
He said, by no plays.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
But I think, well, what you just said is true.
The numbers didn't lie on a streaming platform that not
everybody has money.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah, I mean, granted, it is something that if you're
thinking about the logic of Christmas Day, if if you're
at a house with other people, there's a good chance
that somebody there has Netflix. But Phil, but I know,
I know what you're saying. Look, I'm I was a
surprised as anybody to see the numbers when they came.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Out, But you were surprised.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
I wasn't not surprised, but maybe I was. I wasn't surprised.
I think I was more surprised at how drastic it was,
because it was like I could see ten times as
many people watching the most popular of the NBA games,
and that Lebron like Curry showdown was pretty good on
Christmas Eve and at Christmas Night Christmas evening, excuse me,
(12:50):
and I thought like, oh, that must have drawn a
lot of people compared to these NFL games, And when
in comparison it was like one eighth or one ninth people.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
The viewership in the NBA is so down right now,
and the viewership in the NFL is just so high.
Because again, I feel a couple of things with if
we're gonna talk about the comparison of the two, I
have a college basketball game on right now, John, as
we're doing this show, and Michigan's Michigan State, Ohio State.
(13:25):
You got money on it, no money, unfortunately, But I
don't know one single player on either of these teams.
I could probably name five guys in all of college
basketball right now, where, well, can you name more? Again, John,
(13:46):
don't be a show off and name all ten players
on the Merrimac roster. I know you can do that.
The Fairfield team. I know you can do that. But
my point I'm trying to get to is when I
was growing up in school, in high school, I was
a huge Duke Blue Devil fan. Right I could name
the start of five, I knew a bunch of guys
(14:08):
on all all the teams because they were staying for
two years, three years, four years. Right now, that's not
happened in in college basketball, So fans aren't grear tour
player and want to watch them in the NBA. Right
We're in that in college football right now. You know
all these stars, you know all these guys.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Excuse it's the same thing though, I mean, they're still
leaving schools to go to other schools.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
In football, they're leaving. They're leaving schools to go to
other schools, but not to go to the NFL. So
they're still building their brand. They're building their name, right
Like Dylan Gabriel, he left UCF, went to Oklahoma, went
to Oregon. He's still stayed in college football. He was
going to bigger program, bigger program, bigger program on a
(14:56):
more national stage, building his presence. Quinn yours Archie man,
Like all these guys are names and they have presents.
You mean to tell me people aren't gonna want to
see Cam Skithebo whatever his name is from Arizona State,
wanted to come down Scabo for when it comes time
for him to play in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
I don't know. I guess that's a good point. I think, uh,
I think you're I think you're onto something. But I
also think that I mean, what was the original point
that you got on there? Off the college basketball game?
Why did you bring up the fact that you were
watching it?
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Oh, just saying like there's a game on right now,
and I don't between two Power five schools or Power
four schools, and I couldn't name you one player, but
anytime there's a college football game.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah, So you're saying the popularity even goes back to
college I got you correct, Yes, And that's what by
extension leads to the drastic ratings difference when it comes
to the NFL. Well, I think the ratings really got ten.
Did the following night after Christmas too, because we have
retreated to that Seahawks Bears game on Amazon Prime? Did
you watch that one?
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Of course I did. John, We talk of football football
all day.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Well, as a football guy, I don't know if we
need to talk about this game very much. All it
really did for the Seahawks was keep them alive in
the playoff race for at least a couple more days.
But the Rams still ended up clinching by the end
of the weekend, but not a great look for them.
I didn't think going on the road to Chicago and
only putting up six points against the Bears.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
It was the nine deal to say they won. But
you know, I mean, hey, they're nine and seven, John
nine and seven, and they have a chance to get
into the playoffs this week.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Actually they do not.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
They got eliminated.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah, they are out the Commanders and Packers and Vikings
or Lions. So the Vikings are Lions are gonna be
the one seed, and then the other one will be
the five seed, and then the Commanders and Packers the
other two wild cards. The only teams that haven't clinched
yet it's either the Bucks or Falcons. So the Seahawks
were officially eliminated by the end of the weekend. They
are hopes alive.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
How did the Rams clinch already over them if they're
playing each other this week?
Speaker 1 (17:15):
So that's a great question, Randall. The Rams had the
strength of schedule tiebreakers, so basically, no, it's not. It
actually took five different tiebreakers to get to it. That's why.
I mean, you can call it lame if you want.
But they that's what set up to be like the
fifth tiebreaker basically because they had I think so what
(17:37):
happened was the Seahawks and Rams are still playing next week.
If the Seahawks beat them, the two of them will
end up with identical records overall. However, nothing that will
happen can change the tiebreaker right now that the Rams
would still end up owning. So the division's already decided.
Rams aren't playing anybody this weekend. They're not going to
play Matthew Stafford. It's going to be Jimmy Garoppolo playing
(17:58):
against the Seahawks. I think Cup and the Coup are
both sitting as well, so it's going to be a
you know, the backups against the Seahawks this weekend. And
even if Seattle wins and ties the Rams, the Seattle
Seahawks are out.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Do you know what the previous four tiebreakers were? A job?
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Do you know what they are?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
I think it was. So it's division record. It's well first,
it's head to head record, and the Rams beat them
once already, so if the Rams beat them again obviously
that would that would already you know, it's decided. But
if the Seahawks beat them, the head to head would
be one to one. So then you go to the
second tiebreaker, which would be division records. If the Seahawks
beat the Rams, they've both have identical division records. Uh,
(18:44):
And then I was pretty sure it's a record against
the conference that comes next, and they must have the
same record against the conference. And maybe it's only the
fourth tiebreaker, but that's where that's where the strength of
schedule starts to come into play. And I know because
the Rams beat wins are against the Vikings and the
Bills this year. Those are pretty two good wins because
(19:05):
those two teams combined only have what five losses correct correct,
So there's a little history lesson for you.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
I appreciate that, John, It just would have been nice
to see Seattle, you know, little chippy team. They've played
better on the road this year than they have at home.
I mean, they're sixth and one on the road.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Their home stadium has been invaded at times, it seems
this year, which has never really happened. But I remember
the Packer game. You could hear multiple Yeah, there are
a lot of go pack go chants breaking out that
you were kind of surprised to hear. But yeah, I
don't know what it is, but they won't be in.
The Rams did do their part by clinching. They beat Arizona.
(19:48):
It wasn't a pretty game for them either, only one
touchdown in this game for the Rams from Kyron Williams
and then they did give up a touchdown to Trey
McBride on the other side. However, it was not an
for the Cardinals, who had already been eliminated coming into
the game. The Rams, who got blown out by the
Cardinals earlier this season when they played them, took care
(20:08):
of business. So, like I just said, I don't need
to say anymore about the Rams because they did do
their part. They clinched, and they will be in the playoffs.
Right now, they can still shift between the three and
four seeds, so I guess you could say that the
Rams still had something to play for, because honestly, I
think there's a big difference between the Rams being the
three seed and potentially having to play the Commanders, or
being the four seed and having to play either the
(20:30):
Vikings or Lions. And yeah, I mean, either game would
be at home. But you're telling me the first game
of the playoffs you're gonna have to play either Detroit
or Minnesota. It would be kind of epic to have
Jared Goff come back to LA though for the first time. Yeah,
(20:54):
they already have the staffer back to Detroit a couple
times now because they opened the season with that. This
year as well, the Patriots kind of got she lacked
by the Chargers. It was the Lad mcconkeye show. And
I don't know, what do you have to say about
the state of the Patriots with one game to go.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Here just makes me so mad that the Patriots could
have had Lad mcconkley.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I know, it was like injury.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
They traded that draft pick just and then you got
Jalen Polk who hasn't done anything, and then somebody else
who had has been atrocious as well. Yeah, they can't
do anything right, and Lord knows it with this draft
class the way it is, it's they're not going to
do it. The only thing right, hopefully they can do
(21:39):
is get the first round pick and maybe they can
trade back and try to accumulate some other first round
picks over the next couple of years to pray for
a rebuild. That's best case scenario, John.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
I mean, right now, they are the ones pick right,
the number one overall pick, if the draft were to
be there right now, and if they lose again, they're
not going to move back. I think the or this
back they can move is four, right.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
We learned that correct, Yeah, three or four?
Speaker 1 (22:05):
So I think that if you know, worst case scenario,
even if they get to three, four might be a
little different. But if they get to three, Travis Hunter
would still be in play, depending on who the first
two teams to pick would be because they might be
looking for quarterbacks. But you also don't know between now
and the draft, because there's still so much time and usually,
you know, we talk about these things and then so
(22:26):
much changes before that. There's gonna be players that we're
not talking about right now that are going to stand
out in the combines and the pro days, whatever it is,
and they're gonna shoot up draft boards, and a lot
of them are gonna be great players, and we might
not be talking about the guys that some of these
teams are gonna take in the top couple picks, especially
because this is not a very quarterback heavy draft as
(22:48):
far as top prospects are concerned. So even the two
that everybody's been talking about lately, Shador Sanders and cam
Ward neither one of them is a sure thing. So
I don't know, you know, it's gonna be interesting just
to see kind of what happens with the draft, but
we're so far away from that. We'll talk about it obviously,
maybe a little bit more detailed just before it, but
it's it is interesting to think about it right now
(23:08):
from a Patriots fans perspective, for any fans perspective who's
watching their team play the Week eighteen game knowing that
the next thing you have to look forward to really
is the draft.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
That's the sad part. I mean, we got our quarterback
of the future. I love Drake May. Now it's we
got to build around him. Is it taking Travis Hunner
with the number one overall pick? I don't know. I mean,
he is he that guy.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
I think it depends on what position he ultimately ends
up playing. I think there's a lot of speculation about
him playing corner, which great, he would be a great corner.
But I also think there's something to the idea of
a very dynamic, you know, wide receiver who can once
the balls in his hands. What he does with it
is is just magic. I think it is gonna be
interesting though, because he's he's kind of an anomaly. I
(23:56):
don't think we've had a player like this in quite
some time. There's only a few guys that you really
can think of over the course of history that played
both ways. You know, Champ Bailey is probably the most
famous one, and he became a corner and an All
Pro corner in the NFL. So we'll have to see
what happens with Travis Hunter. The last game of the day,
(24:17):
actually the last game was the Rams Cardinals, but the
afternoon game on Saturday ended up proving to be pretty good.
It went to overtime and your Bengals kept their season
hopes alive despite the fact that this Broncos team had
that ridiculous FOURK down conversion to score a touchdown with
eight seconds left. B Nix somehow found Marvin Mims, and
(24:37):
fantasy owners everywhere won championships if they had Marvin Mims
in their flex position just because of those two touchdowns
he scored in that game. But it ended up being
the Bengals that won the game anyway, Randal, I know
you've been hot to trot on this Bengals team somehow,
making a run here, so they are one step closer
to all the cards kind of falling in the right place.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
One step closer. But it's just realistically not gonna be
in their favor. I'm excited the way they've been playing,
right like he they're they're on a four game win streak, okay,
which is the best in the division right now so far.
And Burro played great. You had your kicker who's missed
(25:20):
so many field goals in that game. I mean, no, everybody, actually, yep,
it is York. It's just man. The dude had like
a twenty yarder for the win and he bind. It
(25:40):
really is a shame though, because had the Bengals took
care of business earlier on this season, John, which they
should have, right, Like, you can't lose to the Patriots,
you can't. You can't do that, you can you just man.
They they lose by one to the Chiefs, you'll lose.
(26:02):
You'll lose by five to the Commanders. I mean, it
wasn't a great, great start for the beginning of the
year for them.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Yeah, you honestly, you know, you forget about that Week
one loss to the Patriots, but that literally could be
the difference in the Bengals season when it's all said
and done here. So you know, I don't know that
I don't know that they're gonna be talking about it
because it's been so long ago, but it is something
that you have to at least think about when you
think about the context of the full season. The Bills
absolutely dismantled the Jets. Aaron Rodgers. It looks like, I mean,
(26:37):
it looks like this guy has cooked. He had a
couple of good games in a row there for you know,
a couple of weeks, but the team themselves is just awful.
And there are two picks in this game. He's stuck
on what is it, four hundred and ninety nine career touchdown,
so he still hasn't thrown five hundred. I'm sure they'll
find a way for him to get it done this
weekend with the last game of the season. But Buffalo just, yeah,
(26:59):
Buffalo just sll lacked them. And I think we're at
the point now where Buffalo, despite the three losses they have,
has kind of proven that they can flex flex their
offensive muscles on pretty much any team they want, and
this Jets team has just not been up for the task.
A lot of those guys probably quit already. But do
you think Josh Allen, I mean, he's he's the MVP.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
To you, right, No, he's not.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
You like Lamar?
Speaker 2 (27:24):
I like Joe Burrow. John. I mean, look at what
he's dealing with out here.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
So should we be going to place bets on Joe
Burrow to win MVP?
Speaker 2 (27:32):
By the way, if he makes it to the playoffs, well, I.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Mean now's the time to do it, though, because if
they get to the playoffs, then he's going to sky
up the board probably of course. But I mean he
has the other day, and I'm like, oh, which one
is going to be? Is it going to be Allen
or is it going to be Lamar? And I considered
maybe putting a little bit of money on Lamar because
he was plus money. He's plus two to twenty five.
I mean, right now, you can get Joe Burrow at
(27:57):
plus eighteen.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Hundred, So I mean, hey, that's great, that's great odds.
But the thing is John, he's number one in passing
yards touchdown, Like, what else are we looking for? I
get it, we want to see the wins, right, And
I get it. Also, the Bills only had two two
players make the Pro ball, uh, Josh Allen himself and
(28:22):
one other player, where again we talked about I think
James Cook kind of got little the chef right there, right.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Most of these guys are gonna end up getting in anyway.
The other guy was Dion Dawkins, by the way, the lineman.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Yes, thank you. How many, John, do you know how
many of the Ravens had? I think it was nine
nine guys on that team. It's stack, you got it, like,
I mean, they had.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
All teams with nine nine Pro bowlers, Like, so.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
If you have that many Pro bowlers, it is what
he's doing so impressive. Yes, I'd say it's impressive still,
you know, but I just think Joe Burrow has no
defense for his team. His team literally has no defense.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
And do you know who the Patriots pro bowler is?
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Of course I do. It is Brandon's scooer.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Yeah. Okay, come on.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
John, don't be trying to trip me up.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
You think you think you think I'm a Patriots fan
in a three and twelve year I don't watch the games.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
I'm not a guy like that. Come on, now, that
is cold blooded, effecial teams has a place on this team. Too. Man,
Come on, you.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Just said it. You just said in a three and
twelve year. They're not three and twelve right now?
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Sorry, thirty and thirteen there you go about to be
three and fourteen hopefully.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Hopefully is right. Sorry? Were you finishing up a point
about the Bills or something? And do you want me
to move on?
Speaker 2 (29:50):
You could? You could? You can move on, John, because
my point was that the Bengals have just had the
worst defense out of any team and the the NFL
this year. Because you want to know what why. They've
led up the second most amount of points in the NFL,
the first, the highest amount of points in the AFC. Okay,
(30:17):
so sorry, the third in the NFL. They're the top
of the AFC, behind the Panthers and the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Wow, that's pretty bad exactly.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
So you're having to deal with that, but the pressure
of you always have to score, you always have to score,
and you're not in the MVP the Most Valuable Player conversation.
If he was on the Vikings, they be undefeated. If
he was on the Bills, they be undefeated.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
They've only lost five games collectively.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
What's what's the Bills strength of schedule? John? A guy
you play the Patriots twice, you play the Jets twice,
and the Dolphins twice. Come on, now, all.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Right, well, I don't know what you want me to say,
but the Bills they did it their way, and now
this week they're also going to have Mitch Trubisky out there.
They're not gonna be risking Josh Allen. I think you're
supposed to play very little the very beginning of the
game and then he'll be out. So the Jaguars. Mac
Jones another win under his belt, looked better this week.
Little fifteen to twenty two actions for a couple of touchdowns.
(31:25):
I'm not gonna waste our time on this game, but
I did want to mention mac Jones because he played well.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
And grabs the mac Jones on to the next.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
The Bucks they just put a pounding on the Panthers,
which is good for them because the last time these
two teams played it was much much closer. Mike Evans
had a couple of touchdowns, Bucky Irving had a humongous day,
Baker Mayfield had five more touchdown passes, and then, of course,
after the fact, you had the viral picture of Baker
Mayfield and Sam Darnold going viral when they were both
(31:56):
on the Panthers together. Now these two are two of
the best quarterbacks in the NFC this season, and the
Panthers are still murdered. What did you say.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
I didn't say anything, John. It was waiting for you
to ask me a question like you normally do, but
you didn't do it.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
All right, Well, do you want me to ask you
a question about the Buccaneers?
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Yeah, John, I do the thing I'm gonna say about
the Buccaneers. John, is they everybody saying they can be
sneaky come playoff time? They can be sneaky come playoff time. Well,
you know what's gonna happen. Yeah, Well, you know what's
gonna happen, John, come playoff time. Is they're gonna be
most likely a wild card team, correct, mm hmm. And
(32:40):
guess who they're gonna play?
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Well wait, you said they're gonna be a who a
wild card team?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Yeah? Most likely? Correct.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
No, they're gonna be the division winner or they're not
gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Oh, yes, because they're nine and seven correct, and they're
playing that yes, the Falcons. Yes, So do you know
what's gonna happen? What they're gonna lose.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Yeah. If they have that four seed, they'll end up
hosting the Lions or Vikings.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
The three seed, they likely end up posting the Commanders.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Correct, and if they guess what if they play the
Lions again, they ain't gonna beat them again. I'm gonna
tell you that.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Yeah, And that's kind of why I look at the Rams.
I'm like the Rams. Remember the opening week of the season,
they went to overtime against the Lions, and then they
played they played the Vikings. They were one of just
two teams to beat the Vikings this year. So they've
had games against both those teams and have played pretty well.
But that's kind of what scares me about it is
like they have to play them again. They probably don't
(33:38):
get the best of them. So I don't know, but
Buccaneers have a chance to clinch with the win this weekend.
I think if they don't win, the Falcons would have
to win and then get some help to get in
uh to win the division. But the Raiders beat the
Saints by a good chunk. The Eagles beat the Cowboys
by a good chunk. The interesting story coming out of
Philly here is at saguon Barkley a huge game he became.
(34:01):
I think this is the sixth guy ever to rush
for two thousand yards in the season, and with a
game to go, I think he's like one hundred and
two or one hundred and three yards away from Eric
Dickerson's all time record. However, the Eagles have said he's
not gonna play this weekend because they haven't had a
buy since early in the season and he has played
every game and they don't want to have him go
right into the playoffs with not getting any rest. So, Randall,
(34:24):
do you agree with the decision by Nick Sirianni and
the Eagles brass to sit Saquon Barkley with a chance
to break the all time rushing record.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I want to see it, John, you know why because
it be against his forward team. I know, Like that's
just that's just that would just be icing on the cake,
right Like that, that's what you want to see you
for as a player, you want to have history. You
want to be a part of history. Right Like if
(34:55):
the chances are are they gonna win the Super Bowl
this year? Maybe maybe not? I don't know. I can't
tell you that. And if he has a ring, is
that gonna feel great one hundred, but nobody else would
be greater than that ring being a part of history
for the rest of eternity, being number one. Saying you
(35:15):
were number one. The Barkley name is number one. He's
not going to be able to say that, right. Like,
and it's also a team it's a team accomplishment, especially
as a running back, like, hey, you know your wide
receivers help block for you. The offensive line can say, hey,
I was part of the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
How did you name the receivers before the line?
Speaker 2 (35:36):
I know, I know, John. I'll stop it, John, because.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
The line you heard, the linemen are the ones who
wanted him to get it the most, because now I
think Eric Dickerson was out there talking shit and and
I think the lineman took exception to that. But I
don't know. I would play a little devil's advocate here,
say and Saydie Randall, this guy just signed with the
Eagles right for major money, and if he doesn't get
(36:01):
it this year, he'll now stay motivated to maybe get
it next year.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Yeah, but how often do we see that happen. There's
like you said, there's only been six guys in the
history of the NFL to do it, and tomorrow wasn't
promised right like you could you could all remember de
Marco Murray. Yeah, we thought that dude was going to
have a hell of a career with Dallas.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
And he didn't rush for two thousand yards though he didn't.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
But Chris Johnson did. The running back, Chris Johnson. The
lifetime of a running back in this league is so short.
We know this.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Yeah, it's actually eight guys. I want to at least
correct us there. Can you name any of the eight
guys you think? So?
Speaker 2 (36:45):
We got Eric Derrickerson obviously, Sequan, Chris Johnson, yep, Adrian Peterson.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
That's correct. I guess there's nine now because there's eight
on this list.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
I'm looking Derrek Henry. Ever get Derek Henry, right.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Derrick Henry was actually the last guy to do it
before this year in twenty twenty. Yeah, and then so
you said AP, you said Derek Henry, You said Chris Johnson,
you said Eric Dickerson. So you have one, two, three,
four more and I bet you could get all of them.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
Well, no, I just I thought I named five.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Sequon, Yeah, so there's nine because the Saquon's the ninth
oh okay, I'm looking at has eight. Yeah, and there's
Saquon was not on it.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
I'm trying to think, not Levion Bell, not Leonard Fornett.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
So think of early two thousands Ravens.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Stephens, not Stephen Jackson. That's Rams, early two thousands Ravens.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
He had a teammate with the same last night.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Oh oh my god, Ray Rice.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
No, no, no, no, Before him, they had a teammate that
was the last name defense was the same.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
As his, Lewis Lewis, Rashard Lewis.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Jamal Lewis, Jamal Lewis. And then do you remember who
the Broncos late running back in the late nineties, He's
not dead in the late nineties was No, I don't,
Terrell Davis. And then nineteen ninety seven Lions.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
You know this one. I definitely don't know this one, Barry.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Sanders, and then nineteen seventy three Buffalo Bills. This guy
was a killer, mister.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
This guy was a killer, literally a killer mister. O. J. Simpson.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, and fun fact o J. Simpson did it in
fourteen games. So that guy has the best yards per
game in a single season.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
But also, if you look at the difference between Eric
Dickerson and the Kwan's attempts. The Quan has like even
though it might take an extra game to break it,
he had a lot less attempts.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
Yeah, I know, he was much more efficient. And that's
the things. Back then, they would just run the ball
into the ground over and over and over again. Now nowadays,
I mean, think about the rest of that offense. They
still have two guys who are really good receivers. They
have a quarterback that scores a lot of touchdowns and
does a lot of running. So the fact that he's
having such a great year is pretty incredible.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
And that's why you gotta let him go for it.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
It does not appear they're going to so I don't know,
but the Colts blew any playoff hopes they had left
by losing to the Giants, which was kind of shocking.
The Giants put up forty five points and I read
that Drew Locke had one of the most efficient games
in NFL history for quarterbacks. It was like ranked among
some of the elite games ever played by a quarterback,
(39:51):
which is just crazy to think about that. The Colts
woke up on Sunday morning after seeing the results from
the day prior, which I think it was the Bronch
losing that kept them alive and that they went out
there and lost to the Giants like that, so I
don't know. The Giants also moved themselves out of the
number one pick for now randall, so that's what set
(40:12):
the Patriots up to currently be in the one spot.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Drew lock look great for the Giants, though he did.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
He might make himself a little bit of backup money
because of that game next year because he's only on
a one year contract. Dolphins beat the Browns. Tyler Huntley
had a nice game kept them alive because we had
the late week news that Tua is dealing with a
hip injury. I think he's still questionable for this upcoming week,
so it'll be interesting to see if he's able to
(40:38):
play because they are technically still alive as well, and
Tyler Huntley was the one to keep them alive by
leading them to this win. The Browns, I mean, I
don't know. I don't know why Jameis Winston's not playing
quite frankly, because I know he hasn't been great, but
dtr really does not seem like he has a feel
for the NFL. At all. So yeah, that's my thought
(40:59):
on that we did get treated to a couple of
really nice games. On first, the other four o'clock game
on Sunday was Packers Vikings and even though the Vikings
were up big early most of this game, as many
as twenty seven to ten late in the third, the
Packers did kind of make it interesting late they I mean,
they scored two touchdowns two four minutes apart from each other,
(41:21):
excuse me, and then they ended up two points short
here in this one from coming back. But I mean,
these two teams are in the same division. There's been
a lot made of that division this year. But Randon,
did you realize that the five losses that the Packers
have this season are all to teams that are gonna
end up with thirteen wins or more?
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Talk about a tough schedule. Huh.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Yeah, it's crazy though, because if you think about it,
it really means that they just can't beat the teams
that they're going to see in the playoffs. They've beaten
everybody else, but they can't beat the teams that are
ahead of.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Them, So or maybe it says that they're going to
be playoff tested, They're going to be ready. It gonna
be good.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
I don't know. But the Vikings, it was pretty cool
to see the emotion of you know, the locker room
with Sam Donnold after the fact that there's been a
lot to be made about his status with the team.
Uh yeah. The Commanders and the Falcons go to overtime
on Sunday Night. Football was a really good game as well.
You know, the Falcons had chances to win this game.
They had chances to make I think a couple of
(42:21):
field goals they didn't make. Michael Penix played okay, you know,
he's still just kind of getting settled in here. But
the Commanders in winning this game, clinched a playoff spot
for themselves and also clinched the playoff spot for the Rams.
But what do you make of Michael Pennix? What do
you think of him in this game? Because this was
two guys who were both drafted in the top ten
(42:42):
going at it.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
He makes some good throws, John, I mean I think
that he did well. But Jayden Daniels is a guy,
right Like Jayden Daniels is the dude. And hey, we
got what we wanted to see. We wanted to see
something in excitement we saw excitement became went to overtime, right,
(43:09):
But I mean, is Michael Panicks the guy? I know
Jaden Daniels is the guy that's a rookie that I
can say we know he's the guy, yeah, but we
definitely also know that Kirk Cousins time and Atlanta is
no longer, so it might seem like he's gonna be
the guy of the future for them, at least for
(43:30):
the next year or two.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
I think they have to give him a chance just
based on where they drafted him, so obviously them playing
him this year is partially that, but they're also still
trying to fight for a playoff spot, so I think,
you know, they made a change because they felt like
Kirk Cousins wasn't giving them enough right now, and I
think Panics has given them at least a little bit
juice because even if he's not necessarily playing, you know,
let's say, strides better. I mean, he's been a little
bit better than Cousins was lately. But even if he's
(43:53):
just giving them a little bit of energy, a little
bit of life of the young guy getting in there.
But yeah, Jayden Daniels, is that dude, As you said,
he's been great, and then this Monday night game I
didn't see really any of because I was at a
welcome party for a wedding and there was just a
ton of points scored between the two teams. I know
brock Purdy got hurt late in this game, an elbow issue,
and left.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
I think I was basically the last drive of the
fourth quarter. Job.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Yeah, yeah, I know. It's so sad for him, but
the Lions wanted to shootout here, and I mean, I
guess the question I'll ask you real quick before we
move on to the week eighteen is do you think
the Lions could potentially have issues because of how depleted
they are defensively right now?
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Yeah, the defense just on this it's it's it's a struggle. Yeah,
it's a real struggle for them. I mean, brock Purdy
was torching them up and he made too bad at
our receptions. When I say bad, I know you weren't watching,
but they were horrendous, meaning it was nowhere near the
offensive guy like just cleared straight to the defeler.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
Yeah yeah, I mean, he's he's had a weird year.
I mean, at times he's looked good. At times he
hasn't looked good. The team obviously is way under a
chief based on the fact that they made, you know,
the Super Bowl last year. So I think that they
just have to they just have to get it back
together for next year. They're gonna have to regroup somehow,
and that they have to also hope that they have
a healthy running back in Christian McCaffrey, which who knows
(45:16):
how long he's going to be out because of the injury.
All right, well that does it for Week seventeen. So
just like that, it is on to Week eighteen, the
final week of the regular season, which is hard to believe, Randall,
but we have arrived.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
John. It's gonna be sad that all this is over,
but hey, we're gonna start getting some real excitement for
exciting football now with playoffs around the quarter.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
You're right, And honestly, Week eighteen is fun for a
few reasons because obviously we're gonna go into the next
few things here that we do, the games that we play,
specifically guess that spread and hard locks, and this is
fun because this week we have players that don't always play.
We have teams that are resting guys, so we're gonna
have to take a lot more things into account this
week when we're looking at these lines or when we're
(46:03):
guessing our spreads.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
That is right, John, because what's the time to do.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
It's time to play. Guess that spread that might be
our best one of the year. We saved me from
the last week of the season. All right, guess that's
spread time where you know the drill we make turn
we take turns guessing the spreads of various lines of
(46:30):
player props around the league. I've been excellent in this
game all year long. But Randal did get back in
the win column last week. He had two out of three.
I had one out of three, but it was Randal's
first one in a while, and he finally beat me
for the first time since very early in the season.
So that being said, Randal, do you want to begin?
Speaker 2 (46:51):
Of course? John? All right, alrighty, let's see here, John,
you my friend, are going to get Let's see here.
Who do I want to give you? Is the real
question thinking about this? I know, I know, Okay, here
(47:13):
we go a guy that doesn't get to play that much,
but he played a lot the other day. Just kidding,
he didn't play the other day because his name is
Jimmy Garoppolo, Yeattle at the rams. What you got for
dear boy Jimmy.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
Yeah, so our boy Jimmy g gets in the start this
week for the first time all year. And if I
had to guess, let's say it's a modest number. Let's
go with U two hundred and two and a half.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
That's modest, John, That seems low. That's a low number.
Not a modest number.
Speaker 1 (47:56):
I think I said the wrong wrong word.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Yeah, rephrase please.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
I'm gonna go with the number that's not too high.
I think it's going to be a what would be
the right word here? A low number.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
So I'm gonna go two two and a half, ding
ding ding one and a half. I knew I should
have somebody.
Speaker 1 (48:19):
Else, Yes, sir, Yes, sir, okay, I.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
Was gonna give you Drew Locke and you weren't going
to get that one. I knew it. Dang it.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
I don't know what to tell you. I don't know
if you let me see here, I gotta find something
that I like to give you. All right, I got
one for you. This is one of your guys. So
this game's taking place tomorrow. These two teams are playing
in the night game. It's the Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Give me your boy Joe Burrows passing yard number.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
Oh, he's gonna be He's gonna be up there. He's
gonna be at least at least that too. Sixty eight
and a half.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
You think that's your final guess.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
And that's so that's low. I know, but give it
to me.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Two eighty five and a half.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Knew it was love.
Speaker 1 (49:09):
I knew it, right. I mean he's been up there.
I mean he has.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
He's had like five straight games of three hundred yards
or something like that, but.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
He's like nine straight games where he's throwing three touchdowns.
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
Yeah, oh man, that's horrible. Great, great, great to eighty four.
I was even at two seventy five, I would have
been short. I was never guess in two eighties. Cool,
here we go. Then let's go Josh Jacob's rushing yards
Chicago at Green Bay.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
So Green Bay. I don't know how much we're gonna
see everybody, But I don't know what that means for
this line. I don't know if they can move up
at all. I guess they could move up to six potentially,
but I don't know what that really does for them.
So I'm gonna say this number. I'm gonna say they're
going with the they're trying to get people to bet
(50:03):
on it as if he's gonna play the whole game.
I'm gonna say that it's sixty now seventy four and
a half.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
Damn, John, you should have said the first number, sixty
four and a half.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
I was gonna say sixty eight and a half, and
I jumped up for whatever reason.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (50:22):
All right, Well, Saints Bucks. The Bucks are a team
that we just mentioned. If they win, they will finalize
their playoff spot. They'll win the division. If they lose,
the Falcons could get in still. But I'm going to
ask you to give me the rushing yard number for
young Bucky Irving, who's had a great year for Tampa Day.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
This number's gotta be in the fifties. John, I'm gonna
say fifty two and a half. Yards.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
Man, you are usually even when you're off, you're usually
closer than you are right now. It is ninety and
a half. Yep. Yeah, I mean he's had some big
games lately, but that does seem pretty high. Oh my Jesus,
(51:09):
it's the Saints, though you have to remember that, oh God, alright.
That means if I get this receiver, I will take
a to nothing leads.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
No, no, yes, if you can take it to nothing lead,
but I can still get an exact y. Alrighty, this
is what it's at, Sean, give it to me. Give
(51:41):
me Za Flowers Cleveland at Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
April Showers brings a flowers. That's what I always say.
Seventy No, sixty seven and a half.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Oh, John, another one where you're just off by ten
fifty seven and a half.
Speaker 1 (52:13):
Okay, all right, I can live with myself, all right, Randal,
this is a chance for you to tie me or
potentially exactly to win. All right, all right, we got
the chiefs at the Broncos. I'm not gonna give you
any chiefs because I know that that's kind of not
fair because they don't really know who's playing for them.
(52:36):
But the Broncos have to win this game, Okay, I
need to win it. I want you to give me
the receiving yard number for Courtland Sutton.
Speaker 2 (52:54):
It's gonna be in the sixties. It's in the sixties.
Do I want to go sixty even or sixty three?
Because I can cover the fifties with the sixty two,
I can cover the seventies with the sixty seven. Sixty eight. Oh, John,
this is killing me. I'm gonna go with sixty two
(53:17):
and a half yards?
Speaker 1 (53:20):
Are you sure?
Speaker 2 (53:21):
I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (53:24):
It's seventy seven and a half. Ah, you still would
have missed, but you would have been a little bit
closer if you've got the higher number. I think it's
a little high. I think it's a little high because
the Chiefs are not gonna be playing their eighteen defense.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
I underplayed I was under everybody by so many. I
don't I wasn't over on one single person at night.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
No, you weren't. You. You played it very reserved, And
that does it for.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Alright?
Speaker 1 (54:00):
I win that one one out of three was good
enough that time didn't need to didn't need to do
better than that. That brings us to hard locks.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
It's tom four.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
Hard locks, all right, hard locks? Is here a great
week for your boy? Last week I went three and
oh for the second time in three weeks, and the
last three weeks now I'm a combined eight and one.
So I hope you've been betting straights, because well, I
guess if you parlayed two weeks ago, any parlay this
past week you did, Okay, Randal was two and one,
(54:37):
so pretty good. He's had a great year on the
hard locks overall, rebounded nicely after the one and two
week sixteen mark that he put up, so overall, right now,
as it currently stands, Randall, believe it or not, you
have twenty eight wins, twenty two losses, and one push,
And I have twenty five wins, pull, twenty five losses
(55:02):
and one push, which means I'm exactly three games behind
you with one week to go.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
I just gotta get one right, John, I just gotta get.
Speaker 1 (55:11):
Get exactly one right to win hard locks. And it
might be the hardest hard locks of the year because
there are some crazy spreads. There are some games that
we don't know exactly who's gonna be playing. Uh So,
why don't I give you the honor of picking the
first game?
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Oh, Jean John, Jean John, I mean this is actually insane.
Speaker 1 (55:35):
At the slide, you've seen the Browns Ravens.
Speaker 2 (55:39):
Line plus twenty and minus twenty, John, that's insane. That's
the highest line I think they said in NFL history.
And you know, with lines like that, how do you
not take the Browns? How do you not take a
team just to start off with twenty points? I mean,
I get it, it's it's it's dtr but twenty points.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
So there was I'm reading right now, there was a
twenty eight point spread in twenty thirteen between the Broncos
and Jaguars. What. Yeah, the Broncos were averaging forty six
points per game and the Jags were averaging ten point
two points per game, So the spread was twenty eight points.
And that's the biggest spread in NFL history.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
I can't believe. I can't remember that. That's that's actually insane.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
That was Peyton Manning on that team when he had
the ridiculous here where he threw like fifty something touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Correct, but still twenty eight Like was it week eighteen?
Like did they say, well, we took a.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
Fun fact for you. They did not cover it was
a week It was week six, so five games of
the year, but they were going based on all the
numbers that they had seen. But fun fact, the Broncos
won the game, but they did not even come close
to covering twenty eight. They won thirty five nineteen.
Speaker 2 (56:57):
I'm just gonna stay away from this one job. Even
Tampa fourteen point line against New Orleans is insane. I
know a lot of these are just this. This is
gonna be a tough week on If you get shipped
right this week, good for you. So the first one
I'm gonna go with is give me the Jets plus
(57:18):
one versus Miami. Miami needs a win to get in.
I don't think that's happening. It's gonna be cold in
New York. Aaron Rodgers is still sucking it up, but
they're gonna somehow find a way to get it done.
Give me the Jets plus one.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
I think the key this week. That's an interesting pick.
Good for you. I'm glad you made it. The key
this week for me is going to try to stick
to games where I know that players are playing. So
that being said, I think the first game I'm gonna
pick here is the Bengals Steelers game tomorrow night, and
I'm gonna go with the dog. I'm gonna go with
the Steelers plus two and a half here. Call me crazy,
(57:58):
because I know they haven't played well lately, but the
Bengals kind of fall under the envelope of teams that
they've been beating. They did beat them earlier this year
in Cincinnati in a high scoring game. But I just
feel like, for whatever reason, the Steelers and Mike Tomlin
and whoever will get this thing figured out going to
the playoffs, and even if they don't, I think it'll
be an incredibly close game in Pittsburgh. I saw there's
(58:19):
a lot of snow on the ground currently down there
in some photos. So I'll be barking.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
Give me the Steelers, man, So I'm gonna beat barking.
You know what. I'm glad you're barking, because I'm barking
to John. I'm barking up the right tree right here.
I'm doing a New York, New Jersey parley today. Man,
give me the Giants plus two and a half. I
(58:45):
got two dogs so far on two picks.
Speaker 1 (58:49):
Wow, you think the Giants are going to upset the Eagles?
Speaker 2 (58:54):
Of course? I love, love, love that new quarterback McGhee
for the Eagles that just through his first career mean
Tanner McKee, Yes, love him, love him. He has a
chance to do something great. But Drew Locke looked incredible
last week and he's looking to secure a spot.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
Give me them yeah, I could see that. I like
where I like where your head's at. Okay, for the
next one, I'm trying to figure out what's the best
option here, Dude, to deep to do? All right? You
know what, I'm going to take the bait here and
(59:36):
I'm going to go with the Arizona Cardinals minus four
and a half against the forty nine Ers at home.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
Here.
Speaker 1 (59:48):
Uh, these are two teams that are not going to
the playoffs. They're going to be playing as many of
the healthy guys they have, and the Cardinals have more
healthy guys right now, so I like the Cardinals to
cover at home. I don't think the forty nine Ers
will be and close in this game. Josh Dobbs will
be playing, which is interesting because I think he had
some success with the Cardinals when Kyler was out a
couple of years ago, so he will be Maybe I'm
(01:00:11):
thinking of something else was vikings that he had success on. Regardless,
Josh Dobbs will be playing in this game, so we'll
see him against the Cardinals. But I like the Cardinals
to win this one at home by four and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
I like it John, you know, beating a team two
times in a season, especially a division rival is tough.
It's extremely tough. Okay. Now, with that being said, you're
coming off with a good win on the row, but
your defense has been lacking. There's been questions about it,
(01:00:43):
but I'm not questioning anything. Give me Detroit minus three
at home.
Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
I had a feeling you were gonna go there when
I heard you start saying what you were saying. That's
an interesting pick Detroit to go to the playoffs. Is
the one seed, get that little by get some rest
for their players, you like.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
I love that idea, John Well, I hate it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
Let's go Vikings plus two and a half. Give me
the Minnesota Vikings to go into Detroit and upset the
Lions to take the one seed in the NFC. Sam
Donald's been on a mission this year, and the Lions
to me, are just a little too banged up. I
think they'll be okay in the long run. I don't
(01:01:24):
know if that means they're going to win a couple
playoff games, if they'll make the Super Bowl, whatever, But
I like the Vikings this week because they're just a
healthier team and Sam Donald has had that kind of
year where this could be the magical thing to get
them to fifteen and two and get the one seed.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
I love it, John, Great pick, great pick.
Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
Well, I know you don't mean that because you just
picked the other side.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Of it, But well, you know what's crazy, John, Earlier
today I was thinking about actually taking the vikings. I was,
and then there's just something that, you know, came across
me and said, no, don't do it. You don't need
the vikings.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
Okay, glasses came to your senses, thanks Sean.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
But that does it? Four?
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
Oh okay, Well, there's only one one thing left to
do here today for the final time in the regular season,
and Randall, I will let you describe what that is.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
All right, John, it's time to play. Gets the word?
I get a word? You gotta guess it, John, what
was the word?
Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
Well, Randall, for the first time in a really long time,
I don't think I necessarily have a guess. I don't.
I don't remember anything that was out there, So I
think you probably did a pretty good job of blending
in whatever it was. But I don't have anything.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
I think I did. John. Let's see what it is. John.
They stubbed them from the Pro Bowl. Man, he was
number one, And guess what you're killing me small.
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
So it's you're killing me small. It's not stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
You're killing me small small. I'm not sure if you
heard me heard it, but I said it. You're killing
me small was the word. All right.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Well, I you know, I like the I like it.
You had a great job. You finally got me to
not have a guess because I just didn't. I didn't
catch it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
This time, you didn't. And I'm glad me too.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
Well, the last week of the regular season is upon us.
It's kind of crazy to believe, but obviously after this
week we'll be in playoff mode. It remains to be
seen kind of a schedule beyond will likely try to
stick to a similar schedule. However, with all of the
games taking place over the weekend, I think it's safe
to say that it might make more sense to try
to record a little closer the weekend like we did
(01:03:50):
with this episode, So look out for episodes for the
playoffs on Thursdays or Fridays throughout the next few weeks.
But yeah, well, next week, Randall, what we'll do is
we will recap our season long picks to see how
we did on the division winners, who's making the playoffs,
and all that stuff, and then we will of course
go into the playoffs, will make new predictions based on
(01:04:11):
the teams that are going in, and preview all of
the Week one games or the week whatever games for
the wildcard weekend. You got anything else for me here today.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Randall, John, All I gotta say is backups in the
NFL out there, especially backup jewbies out there that'll.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Do that'll do it for us. So Randall, why don't
you take it away with the song as we say
goodbye to week seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
Goodbye, goodbye, good friends, goodbye. It was the end of
the football SEASDA. It's week eighteen and that means no
one's playing. So go out there and be a backup,
a back up. Good luck.
Speaker 1 (01:05:02):
Jimmy G you're killing me, Smalls. Good what you write
