Speaker 1 (00:21):
What is going on?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Everybody.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome back to another edition of The John
and Randall Football Experience. My name is John Avino, and
joining me as always is my guy Randall Minogue. Randall,
how you doing tonight, My dude, John? You know what,
I just realized that wasn't on the first time we
tried recording.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
This that though.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
I realized that earlier, but I just realized their name,
the John and Randall Football Experience.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It kind of sounds like it's a Disney.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Or a universal rhyme, like you're going out, I'm putting
the VR on there and.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
You're sitting in the studio with us. Oh, imagine that.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
It kind of is like that, though, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Randall? Well, I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Well, I'm excited to experience some football talk with you today, job,
because yesterday we had some pretty cool things happening.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yeah, we did. So you know, tonight we'll talk a
lot about Drake May's NFL debut, talk about a lot
of the other things that are going around reve But
I think it's only right that we get started with
some quick hits. Quick kits, all right, so quick kits.
We're gonna change it up this week a little bit,
(01:37):
and we're just gonna kind of have one quick kit
for the whole show here. And the quick kit he's
going to eat up two receivers that we saw traded
yesterday into the AFCD East, and that is DeVante Adams.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
And Amari Cooper.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Kind of is a chess match here. First he had
Davante Adams getting trade to the Jets, you know, the
details came out kind of over the afternoon, and then
as we got into the evening hours, boom, the Bills
make a move to go get Amari Cooper. I mean,
which one of these were you more surprised by, Raynald,
because I think we'd heard a lot about DeVante Adams
going to the Jets and rumors, and obviously he wanted
(02:12):
to leave the Raiders and go play with one of
his former quarterbacks. But which one of these is more
surprised than you ultimately see happen?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
No, I mean, obviously, like you said, we heard the
rumors that DeVante Ada Adams could have potentially been traded
in and it was most likely he was going to
get traded, and next thing.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
You know, and next thing you know, John Bang, the news.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Breaks early afternoon early late morning that he was now
a New York Jet and literally right after the news
broke he was at the Jets facility, like literally five
minutes later.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I'm not sure if you saw that or not.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, well apparently he was on the plane ride Monday
or on the plane Monday night watching the game on
his way to New York already.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, he knew, he knew. But the big shocker was
Amari Cooper did Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
I think that is a fantastic, fantastic move for them,
especially the way the last two weeks have gone for them.
Josh Allen has his number one again. By the way,
if you've got a Mari Cooper in fantasy, he was
struggling a lot with DeShawn Watson like everybody was, because
that's the booty cheek, it's John.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I'm gonna make a quick note.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
The year isn't even over, Deshaun Watson booty Cheek player
of the Year. Wow, But now you go from booty
Cheek Player of the Year to an MVP candidate.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
So he's gonna be putting up some numbers there in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
And Buffalo I think is now still the top dog
right like Jet the Jets. They made this move, but
I need to see them actually do something with it.
They tend to not be able to do anything with
these moves that they do.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yeah, I think it's been the season of kind of
waiting for the Jets here. It's almost as if keep
saying like, oh, now they've got this, let's see what
they can do. Or now they did this, now let's
see what they can do. It's, you know, first it
was Rogers, like, let's have Rogers back, Let's see what
we can do. Get off to a tough start, you know.
Then it's let's fire solid, let's see what we can do.
You go out there, lose to the Bills. Now it's
let's go get Adams. We'll see what we can do.
(04:17):
So it's the same thing over and over for them,
and I honestly feel like, you know, both acquisitions are
big news, but I feel like the Bills one is
not only more surprising because we did hear about Adams,
but I also think it's just more of a necessity.
I don't look at the Jets and think that's their problem,
that they were missing a number one receiver. I mean,
Garrett Wilson's pretty good. Alan Lazard's played really good, and
(04:40):
I know Aaron Rodgers just dragged Mike Williams because he
didn't run the right route the other day. However, to me,
it doesn't make any sense that you're going to acquire
a guy who now you suddenly have to bring in
and he's the new number one. Everybody kind of moves
down the depth chart a little bit. I mean, obviously
he's a great talent, but it st level wasn't there
(05:01):
the same as it was for the Bills. The Bills
go gout out and get a number one receiver.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
What do you mean?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I still think the necessity level was there for the
Jets to get somebody, right, Like, I mean you can
say that, yeah, in the sense of, like Aaron Rodgers
isn't Aaron Rodgers last two years, this dude has been mediocre,
right Like, So I would.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Say that the Jets had a glaringly obvious problem wide receiver.
They need to go out and get a number one guy.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Well, I think there was an obvious problem on the
offensive side, yeah, you know, like it was clear that
him and Garrett Wilson haven't been on the same page.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Yeah, but everybody says that, But I mean his targets
have been through the roof, and he has been coming
around lately. I mean, he had the big touchdown the
other day. He did have another one that he could
have had maybe, uh, I know what you're saying. And
Adams is the guy that's gonna come in and he
knows Rogers very well already, so there's no real catching
up to speed there. I just am really interested to see,
(06:03):
you know, a Marii Cooper with the Bills because they
really did have a number one wide receiver problem. You know,
Steph Diggs leaves gave Davis Goes as well, and they
didn't really replace him with much. They had Curtis Samuel,
you know, they bring in a couple other veterans to
go with some young guys, but they really, to me,
needed to do something like this. And now you know
you said it before. He goes from the booty cheek
(06:25):
player of the Year to a potential MVP candidate. So
it's it's a pretty big upgrade for Marii Cooper, but
also for the Bills.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah, no, I I I agree, it's gonna it's gonna
be exciting to watch. I'm more excited to see Amari
with Buffalo than Davante. With the Jets, I think that
Josh Allen is going to be feeding the ball to
Amari Cooper like crazy. And I still think the Jets
potentially won't even make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Still, yeah, you're not very high on them. Ever, I
never am.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I mean, it's the thing is everybody's like, it's the Jets,
it's the Jets, and the fact is it is the Jets.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Imagine you're Robert sala.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
You just you get fired, team loses the following week,
and then they go out and get a number one
wide receiver, right like it.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Well, they still lose the game, though, It's not like
they won the game and they're doing so now. They
still haven't had the success since he's been fired. It's great,
it's been one game. What you're saying, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
I'm just saying, like he got fired, they still lost,
and now it's hey, let's go get a number one
wide receiver. Yeah, because clearly this offense and team can't
do it without a number one, right, and it makes sense.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Well, Garret Wilson, I think he's a number one. But
I think I know what you're saying. I mean, Adams
is a proven commodity proven number one for years in
this league, so you gotta give him that. So and
even though it's kind of moving in backwards order, I mean,
we've been talking about this game now for a few minutes.
Ran up, but it ended up in a pretty close
game here this Bill's Jets contest. Rogers threw the hail
(08:05):
Mary at the end of the first half that ended
up making this final score a three point game. It
really was not that close of a game in the
first half, but that touchdown really helped the Jets stay
in the game. I mean, were you surprised that the
Bills were able to go get this win on the road?
I can't get the sense no, because you're kind of
in fading the Jets ever since Rogers got there.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I mean, yes and no, I'm not surprised by I
am surprised, just because when the Jets defense has solid,
Buffalo did get smacked around a little bit, especially Josh
Allen the previous week at Houston, so I wasn't sure
really how well they would respond. I did think Aaron
Rodgers was gonna play a little bit better than what
(08:50):
he did. Yeah, but I mean both teams clearly needed
the wide receiver help. That's what they went out and got,
and we're gonna see if it actually pays off for
one of them, both of them, or none of them, right,
because both those teams should be putting up more points.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Than they are. That's where they've been struggling, both on
the offensive side.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
It is very interesting that these two teams end up
making this move, that these moves right after they end
up facing each other for the first time this year,
so it will be interesting to see the next time
they play each other, and obviously the remaining games between
these not only these two teams against each other, but
the remaining games they have in conference and in division
and all that stuff. Both teams getting another playmaker. You
(09:32):
also had let's go back to Thursday night now, because
this is that we started with. Monday night, the forty
nine ers went up to Seattle. They were able to
beat the Seahawks in a game that they led early,
and they did have a little bit of a comeback
meeting the Seahawks did in the third quarter, helped by
a kick return touchdown. They actually got it within six
(09:53):
again at one point, but San Francisco was really leading
this game from start to finish. They're still without McCaffrey.
Everybodybody else is pretty healthy right now for this team,
Do you expect the forty nine ers to start rounding
in the form here a little bit since they hadn't
really played all that well the first few weeks of
the season.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, brock Purty played great, right, he had three touchdowns,
no interceptions, did what he had to do.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
But again, it was.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Another game where they got up double digits and they
almost blew it.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
That's already happened twice this year.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
They've been up ten or more points and ended up
losing the game. Yeah, so this one, I feel like
they were kind of on their heels for a little
bit in that fourth quarter, like, uh, we can't do
this again, can't do this again. We need to have
Christian McCaffrey get back because and when I say we,
I mean the forty nine ers in a sense of
(10:46):
that dude scores a touchdown every single game, right, So
they're missing a key and pivotal person in their offense, right, Like,
we can't just act. Yeah, they have all these other weapons,
which they do and they should still be able to win, right,
but you're missing an MVP offensive candidate.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Yeah, He's an MVP caliber running back on a team
full of offensive threats, and that says something because it's
the whole offense is great. But you're missing a guy
who literally, I think was top three in MVP last year,
and you have every reasona believe that when he's healthy,
he's going to be the same kind of producer at
this point in his career. The interesting thing is that
(11:27):
Jordan Mason did get hurt in this game as well.
He's been McCaffrey's understudy who's really rose to fame this year,
played really well. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish this game.
I think he did come back in for a play
after he initially left, but I think he had a
stinger and it was just too much for him to go.
I don't think it's gonna be something that's long term
a problem for him, but if he does miss a
(11:48):
game or two, it'll be interesting. I think the forty
nine ers are really hoping they get McCaffrey back in
the next couple of weeks. In fact, I believe the
forty nine ers are playing the Chiefs this week, which
is a huge game for them. But I think they're
hoping within the next few weeks, maybe early November, they'll
have McCaffrey in the fold again. And I'm sure fantasy owners, betters,
anybody you name it would be excited to see if
(12:10):
Christian McCaffrey pencil back into the lineup for them.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
You know, yeah, I thought you were just gonna go
right into the next game.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Well we can. Let's go to London, shall we, because
you had the Bears just as the lawn, Yeah, across
the pond as they like to say, and as I
heard Drod Mayo say today in his press conference before
the Patriots head over there. But this game, man, I mean,
my goodness, are the Jaguars the worst team in the league?
(12:43):
They because they might be, The Bears put together a
pretty full performance. Caleb Williams. This was certainly, in my opinion,
his best game so far as a starter in the NFL.
He was twenty three of twenty nine. He did throw
a pick that was kind of not such a great throw,
but he had four touchdown pass is he ran for
an additional fifty six yards. DeAndre Swift has been running
(13:04):
out of his mind. They finally got Keenan Allen involved
in this game. To me, this was the most complete
game the Bears played. But that being said, I look
at the other side and I see a Jags team
that is really bad, and I can say that outside
of their one to five record, they just don't have
I think, the right personnel to allow Trevor Florence to
(13:27):
Trevor Lawrence to flourish and succeed. However, I don't know
if there is a right personnel for him to flourish
and succeed because he hasn't really shown since coming to
the NFL that he can be a consistent winner. We
always like to point at that draft class and be like, oh,
he's the best one, but that doesn't necessarily mean that
he's great, because he hasn't been all that great. Ramdalls,
I'm gonna stop you right there.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Two things.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
One, I am very scared that the Patriots actually might
beat the Jaguars this upcoming week in London, because I
do not want them.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
To win games.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I want them to lose get better draft pick number Two,
how are you not putting the blame on Trevor Lawrence
right now?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
How are you not?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
I mean, I ultimately, I ultimately did ye.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
No, you said he hasn't had pieces around him, What
more do you want them to do?
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Bill? Did you hear what I said after that? If
he kept listening, I said that, I don't know. There's
a scenario where that works, where anything works.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
So you're trying to play both sides of the story.
So typical of you, John.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Taking a page out of your playbook.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
But the answer is no, Trevor Lawrence is average below average.
How many times do we have to say he's Gardner Minshew,
he's mid, he's mid, he's below mid. There are so
many other guys you could get, save the money, pay
other weapons. But he needs something needs to change. I
(15:00):
don't know what a need is. I do not I
don't watch enough of their games. I'm not as invested.
But something has to happen because he is not playing
well and he's in line for Booty Cheek Player of
the Year runner up.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Well, he hasn't been quite as bad as Deshaun Watson,
but you're not done.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
I mean they both have the same crappy record, right,
It's not like he's playing like Joe Burrow in one
in four, one in five, playing like that.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah, he is one in five. You can even say
Matt Stafford, you know, yeah, you can. Yeah, now you're
not wrong. And I think this is a huge week
for them because they Honestly, I think the Jags playoff
hopes are pretty dead. But I think just for a
franchise's sake, they need to start doing something or else.
There's gonna be a lot of changes made. I think
(15:52):
it's gonna start with Doug Peterson. They might not even
bring him back from London if they lose this game
to the Patriots. But they Yeah, two games in a
row there for them, and first one did not go
well at all, so we'll see if the second one
can go a little bit better. But the Bears, man,
I mean, how about them, This is a great win
for them. I'm excited to see if Caleb Williams keeps
(16:13):
on rolling the way he's been rolling. The Ravens Commander's
game was a pretty good game down in Baltimore and
two teams that are very close proximity to one another.
The Commanders didn't get off to a great start. They
did make a late push in this game. It was
really the Ravens game to lose for most of it. However,
you can say that Jade and Daniels still put together
(16:35):
a really nice performance. They did kind of tap him
rushing wise, he wasn't really able to get much on
the ground for the first time. They were also missing
a couple of key players, but the Ravens Randall have
continued to trend upward after a little bit of a
tough start to the season. Have they fully re established
themselves with four straight wins now as one of the
top teams in the league in your opinion.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
No, they have not. I'm still not a believer.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
It's weird, John, because Lamar has these games where he
plays great and then in games where you're expecting, hey,
this is a big matchup, expecting him to do well,
and he fumbles the bag a little bit. Yeah, right,
and literally like fumbles the football.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
But his record against the NFC is incredible.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
What's it like twenty five and one something outrageous, right,
And it's a true stat. Versus the NFC, he only
has one loss and like at least nineteen to twenty wins.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Okay, a little fun fact there for you.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Okay, but I'm not one hundred sold on them yet.
I truly will not be surprised if Joe Burrow and
company come back to win the division why my favorite things.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
One of my favorite things to do is stat check
you in real time, like fact check you. Lamar Jackson
is twenty two and three. You were like, he only
has one loss, that's a fact. He actually has three
times as many as you just said. But yeah, still
still a really good record.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I was getting the point across.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Okay, you must have been reading the top reddit uh link,
because that's what it's. Lamar Jackson is now twenty one
and one against NFC teams.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I guess I was wrong, and so is he was.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
At one point, I was right at one point, you
know one, I guess apparently, But I'm I'm still not
sold on him yet. I want to see him be
able to actually.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
On Lamar Jackson the two time NFL MVP. You're not
sold on.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Him, No, I want to. I want to see him
win playoff games.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I mean, that's a fair laughing at man, like it's
it's true because he does great in the regular season
for MVP candidate, but yet we're not able to get
out of the first round of the playoffs. Huh doesn't
make sense. It doesn't add up that matth ain't mathing.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
You hold some guys to higher standards. I just want
you to know that.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I hold everybody to the highest of high standards. Okay, okay,
can can he at least make it to a championship game?
Didn't they last year?
Speaker 2 (19:15):
They played Kansas City in the championship game?
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Okay? Well, there you go, man, there you go.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Can you win it?
Speaker 1 (19:21):
All right? Slow progression, man, They've got they got it
this year. All right, I'm gonna tell you this year
they're going to the Super Bowl. WHOA, how's that for
an early season prediction for you?
Speaker 2 (19:31):
My early season prediction is they don't win the division.
And since he does.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Oooh, since he think's gonna come.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Back, huh, put your hard earned money on it.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
I don't know if I'll be doing that. Um, the
Eagles beat the Browns. But this was kind of stinky.
The Eagles are not a very good football team right now. Randall,
they won twenty sixteen, they were at home. We know
how bad the Browns have been, So you know, you
take how much actually means with a grain of salt. However,
(20:04):
what do you think this means ultimately in the grand
scheme of things for the Eagles that they were able
to just get a win? Here do you look at
this as a team that's trying to figure things out
or that's just kind of hopeless here and not going
to figure it out at all. They're three and two
right now.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Yeah, they're hopeless, John, They've always been hopeless since last year.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
And yelling at fans like, bro, what are you doing?
Get a life? I mean, that's he's a joke. He's
a joke. The whole team is a joke.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
I feel like they have no chemistry, they don't bond well,
they just say nonsense of things. Okay, what else? What
else is there to say? I'm still not sold on them.
I think the command I'm still.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
We're not doing buy or sell anymore like last year, because.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
You're right selling. I get rid of it, John, get
rid of it.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Yeah. I mean, look, I don't think they're very good.
I think they have a lot of flaws on this team. Obviously,
the first you know game was really exciting watching Saquon Barkley. Uh,
but it's kind of been a slow regression to the
mean for him and them since they did win. So
I don't want to sound too crazy. However, most of
the teams that the Browns have been losing to have
(21:22):
been smacking them. So the fact that the Eagles only
won by four when they're hoping to be a big.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
They were in it the thing. Yeah, the Browns were
in the game.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Yeah, and they're horrible. Yeah they are. I mean, this
is another example. Deshaun Watson was sixteen for twenty three.
Doesn't sound awful, one hundred and sixty eight yards, did
not throw a touchdown, did not throw a pick. He's
just been so below averagely bad since he ended up
having all these issues with the massaging and the sexual
(21:51):
assault and whatever. I mean, bring it.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
You have to. And it comes to a point, John,
where you're the if you're the head coach.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Give it to me straight. Randall.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
What's his name, I'm blanking on his name, Nick Nick
the head coach for Cleveland, Kevin Stefanski. So if i'm him,
I'm going to the owner and I'm saying, look, i
(22:27):
know you're paying this dude a ton of guaranteed money.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
But if we keep loving the owner, Yeah, I'm putting Jamison.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
And if you're gonna fire me for putting Jamison, then
then so be it. I'll be able to get another
job because everybody will know you fired me for putting Jamison.
I just won Coach of the Year last year with
four different quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Four different I saw a thing recently. You know that
famous Browns jersey where the guy just kept adding names
to the back of it. Yeah, somebody was like, how
many quarterbacks on that jersey? Would you take over Jean
Watson right now?
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Oh my god, give me, give me, give me, give me.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
I mean I Baker Mayfield is a no brainer right now.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
I was gonna say, give me Jamis, give me Johnny
Manzel over him.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Right I don't know about that one, but present day
Johnny Manzel maybe just throw him out there. Yeah. It's
a very interesting time right now for the Browns. Uh,
that's one way to say it. But it's just been
loss after loss after loss. The fact they even have
a win this year is kind of hard to believe.
I don't even remember who they beat. Do you remember
who they beat?
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yes? It was two or three.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Yeah, they beat the Jags.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Yeah, there you go. It was on the too. It
was on the road.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Surprisingly, Yeah, worst team in the league, the Jags. Browns
might be second. I'm gonna make you wait a little
bit longer to talk about Drake may I want to
talk about the Packers game real quick, because this was
a low out. I think you thought that the Cardinals
could keep this game close based on the way you
picked this week. Yeah, I did so. Were you disappointed
(24:09):
to see that they did not even show up after
the way their offense is looked in some of these
other games?
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (24:16):
And no no, because they were worthout Marvin Harrison Junior
for basically three quarters of the game.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
He got hurt.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Yeah, he had a concussion, okay, but he didn't really
have any catches up up until then. That was in
the second quarter he got hurt, right, So I don't
think they're utilizing him enough.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
I've been saying that they need great.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
In their wins though, Uh huh, so what does that tell?
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (24:45):
But Jordan Love he's stepping up. Green Bay sneaky this year. John,
that whole division. You got green Bay winning record, the
Bears a winning record, Vikings are winning record.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Oh and guess who who's the fourth team?
Speaker 1 (25:01):
John?
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Detroit winning record?
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Like what? Really good? They might send four teams to
the playoffs at this rate.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
I went from being one of the worst divisions in
football to one of.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
The best seemingly pretty quickly. Too, because the Bears were
not very good last year, the Lions are not very
the Vikings were not that great last year, although they
had a good year two years ago. But yeah, I mean,
this is It's a great division for a lot of reasons.
But the Packers, to me, are just a weird team
because I feel like there's weeks where Jordan Love looks
(25:37):
like he should be one of the highest paid players
in the league, and there's other weeks where Jordan Love
looks like he should be a bottom five maybe starting quarterback,
maybe not even And that's where I'm just confused about
this guy. Is he really? Is he the real deal?
Is he not the real deal? Because the game he
played this week and he did throw a pick, but
he looked really good otherwise. A couple of really good throws,
(25:59):
a nice play by Romeo Dobbs, who had two touchdown
catches in this game after sitting out a game because
he was suspended for complaining about his role, so it
seems like he's fine now. But yeah, I mean, this is.
I think Jayden Reid or Dantavian Wicks, or maybe both
of them got hurt in this game. For at least
a point of it, But the Packers are just so
weird to me. They don't have like that bona fide
(26:20):
number one guy receiving wise, but they just find a
way to make it work. And I don't know, this
was a big win for them. They won by three
touchdowns over a team that I thought was coach Yeah, yeah,
Matt Lafleur is a good coach. He seems to have
Sean mcvay's number every time they play the Rams. So
that's all all I can say about that. I guess,
(26:43):
all right, and then let's let's let's finally do it Randall.
I know, the Texans beat the Patriots by twenty points here,
but we finally got to see Drake May, who I
know that you weren't exactly clamoring for because we knew
this team has offensive line problems that are going to
make it really hard for anybody to be successful this
season for them. But what were your first impressions of
(27:04):
this guy? He kind of sling it, slung it a
little bit in two hundred and forty yards three touchdowns,
did throw a couple of picks, but his m in
college was kind of the fact that he's gonna make
some big plays. He's also gonna take some risks, he
might throw some picks. But what were your first impressions?
Speaker 2 (27:19):
So there were a couple, John, though.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
The very first one was, what the hell was the
play calling on the first possession? Half back dive, half
back dive, third and ten? We got zero yards on
the first two runs. Now it's third and ten. What
did they not want to do? Put them in a
third and long.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I'll smell a new segment called what the hell was that?
Speaker 3 (27:44):
I love that, and I'm just like, well, this is great.
We're setting it up up exactly what I thought. We're
gonna set him up for failure. Horrible offensive coordinator calls,
just just horrendous. And then they're like, Noah, if we're
gonna let's at least play them, like, let's see what
he has.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Open it up, and we he let loose, and I was.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Very happy with his performance, very happy John. You know,
one big thing I'd like to add is he was
able to throw the deep ball. Well, yeah, he had
that forty five yard bomb uh to Kayshan Bhute Boody
a booty for the touchdown to end the half. And
(28:32):
that's something that they haven't been able to do with
Mac Jones. That's something they weren't able to do with
Jakobe Brissett is move the ball down the field, right.
We want to have big explosive plays. What's that it's
a past twenty yards or more. We need to have those.
It's going to open up the whole field for you. Okay,
And so, I, as a Patriots fan, was very happy
(28:54):
with his first official start.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Yeah, I look at this as kind of a dressing
up a pig kind of thing where we're gonna just
make a bad team look a little bit better by
putting a guy out there who can just make plays
compared to another guy. Because Jacoby Brissett, You're absolutely right,
he was not playing very well. There was no big
pop play factor in this offense. I do think Jacoby
(29:17):
Brissett has shown throughout his career he can be a
serviceable quarterback in the right situation, which has oftentimes been
where the team around him is not terrible. You think
about it two years ago when he filled in in
Cleveland before Deshaun Watson got back from the suspension, and
then last year with Washington they weren't a great team.
But I think that the players on offense around him,
(29:38):
mainly Terry McLaurin and those running backs with Brian Robinson.
Last year they had Gibson who now comes to New
England with Persett interestingly enough, but they had enough playmakers
around him that he was able to servicefully move the ball.
Wasn't the big threat guy necessarily, And that was the
same thing here with the Patriots. So you're putting a
guy in now who has the ability to at least
(29:58):
make plays, And yeah, it might not be the right
move just because the team around he might not be ready,
But in the grand scheme of things, you do want
to kind of see what you got. And some of
these guys are such great players that we don't know
about that can elevate the rest of the team around you.
So it is a spot where I'm sure they're looking
for him to try to elevate somehow. He's not gonna
(30:19):
be Tom Brady right away, obviously, But you know you
said earlier, this is what Prissette couldn't do, this is
what mac Jones can do. Really, we haven't seen anybody
be able to move the ball down the field like
this in the Patriots uniform since Bailey's appy.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Thank you for recognizing my man.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Literally, I do want to know the the amount of
big plays between Mac Jones, Bailly Zappy, the limited snaps.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
We'll let you do that deep dive on the Randall
Football experience later on, which is not a real show.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
But you can suspect podcast realistically.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Though, they need offensive line help, bat Like, they really
do need a left tackle to protect this give him
time in the pocket. We need we need, we need
these weapons on offense to to not be bussed.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
We need Kendrick Bourne to show up. I need Pop
Douglas to show up.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Is born even healthy right now?
Speaker 2 (31:15):
No?
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Okay, so you're just saying you need him to be healthy.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
Yeah, healthy, show But when he's there, I need him
to be there. I need these guys to be ready
to go. Okay, okay, but I'm excited to watch him.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
I'm excited to continue to watch them.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Any thoughts on the way that the Texans played in
this game? Are you surprised to see them kind of
sticking to the Pats?
Speaker 2 (31:40):
What do you think? John?
Speaker 1 (31:42):
No, I'm say were you surprised to see the Bucks
lay a fifty burger on the Saints?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
John?
Speaker 3 (31:50):
I look up the score? They were up. They were
up fourteen. Next thing, you know, Baker's thrown like three interceptions.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Almost through a full and I'm like, oh, this.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Is a game.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
I blink.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
I literally blink my eyes and they have a fifty
burger up there.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Yeah, how does that happen? Well, it was a really
weird game because the Bucks got out to this great start.
They're up seventeen to nothing, and then all of a sudden,
the second quarter starts, and if the Saints played only
the second quarter of this game, they would have absolutely
destroyed the Bucks. They scored twenty seven points in one quarter.
(32:30):
That was all their scoring came. In the second quarter.
They had a touchdown first, sorry, a field goal, a
touchdown forty seconds later, a touchdown on a punt return,
which means they scored a field goal, kicked it off
to the Bucks, and within thirty seconds had a punt
return after that, then another field goal, another touchdown pass
after they got the ball back on an interception, and
(32:54):
then there was a field goal by the Bucks and
a touchdown with two forty seven to go by Kamara.
That was all the scoring for the Saints. And then
the Bucks in the second half, when they were trailing
by three points came out and said all right, that's
enough of that, and they scored four more touchdowns after that,
and they ended up winning fifty one to twenty seven.
I think the Bucks are pretty legit, man. I mean,
(33:14):
I think that Baker Mayfield has really come into his
own the last couple of years. And that goes without
saying based on the numbers, and obviously got the contract,
but I mean he has just figured something out over
these last couple of years. He certainly has great weapons
around him. Chris Godwin looks great. Mike Evans was a
little banged up in this game, hasn't played his best
ball of late. But I mean Bucky Irving and this
(33:36):
other kid that they had running the ball to Sean Tucker. Hey,
he look great, even though ra Shad White wasn't playing.
So there's just a lot of support around Baker. And
that offensive line is also really good, which allows him
to make the right decision more times than not, even
though he did throw three picks in this game.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
No what I compare Baker Mayfield too what I'm not
sure if you're going to get this analogy or not. Okay, okay,
And this is exactly what he's been this season. Okay,
it's Jemima maple syrup. Yeah, and it's Vermont made maple syrup.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
You know the difference, John, You know the difference.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Like true maple syrup and the other one's like synthetic.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Yeah, one fig process nasty maple syrup.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
The other that Vermont made. Oh, that's pure.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
You can taste the difference, you can see the quality
and difference.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
And that's Baker Mayfield in a nutshell.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Okay, this dude's highlights are high as high and low
is low. Like he's he's the two maple syrup bottles
in one. Because he makes some incredible throws, like he
for for being six feet tall six' one max. Maybe
like he puts the ball where it needs to be.
(34:55):
He throws a beautiful deep ball, beautiful deep.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
That is a great point because he not the biggest guy,
and oftentimes it can be tougher for those guys to
succeed and get the ball where it needs to be.
But he doesn't seem to struggle with that for whatever reason.
And it you know, you think about guys like Drew Brees,
he was not the biggest guy. He succeeded Russell Wilson
in Seattle succeeded for a while not being a big guy,
so I don't know, it's it's interesting to see his success.
(35:20):
But he's been very good, and they've been very good
for the most part. Other than a dud or two
the Colts. They beat the Titans in a close one.
This was kind of a poop Bowl. For a little
while there, I thought maybe Anthony Richardson was gonna play,
coming in Joe Flacko ends up playing. He does throw
a pick two more touchdowns again, though he has the
(35:40):
longest active streak with two last touchdown passes in a
game randal, which is just ridiculous. But Will Levis just
continues to be really really not good.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Say the real word, John, say the real word.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
He continues to be the booty cheeks. I mean, is like,
we I know you gave it to Deshaun Watson already,
but we might need a first team All booty cheeks
this year.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
John, I'm down to do that for well. First team,
second team in honorable.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Mention, yeah perfect. I mean, what is won with this guy?
Why is he an NFL quarterback?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
He makes bone headed decisions, man like and the thing is,
it's who's their backup, like you're their backup. I don't
even know who their backup is, but he must be
horrible for them to not even want to give the
dude chance.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
You should take a wild guess to who their backup is.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Oh my god, I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Hold on before you guess. Let me. Oh yeah, you
could definitely get this. And he played a game this
year too, I think in a game. He definitely played
in a game. And I'll tell you he's been in
the league for a few years on a team. Don't
you don't love.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
On a team I don't love? So he was with
Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
No, but it's on that same list of teams. You
don't love the Jets.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Nope, Man, oh man, I'm blanking John.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Do you know the most famous reindeer of them all?
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Oh, Mason Rudolph Pittsburgh Steelers. He played against at Miami.
Came into the game against Miami.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Your backup. He might be better though, he might be better than
Will Levis. They should give me he.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Really might be I mean, my god, that is just horrible.
And then on the other side of the field, you
got a guy who's aging and.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Is still in the league and yet putting up crazy numbers.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
I know Anthony Richardson is a top talent, but at
the same time, John I kind of low key be like,
do we really want to like mess this up right
now because Joe Flacco is elite Joe right now?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Like you could argue that they made that decision this
past weekend because everything we were hearing was, oh, Anthony
Richardson should be able to play, and then suddenly, like
fifteen or twenty minutes, maybe a little bit longer before that,
but we heard Joe Flacko was gonna start. And I'm
sitting there with my buddy getting ready to watch the games,
and I'm like, oh, man, like he's gonna start over
Anthony Richardson. I wonder what that means for Richards's health.
(38:24):
But we've seen this play out before where guys come
in and maybe not like to the veteran status of
Joe Flacco, but I mean he did this last year
in Cleveland when Deshaun Watson was hurt. He came in
and played much better than Deshaun Watson did on the
same team. And Anthony Richardson probably has a long career
ahead of him if he can stay healthy. Because let's
now realize that two years in the league, he's missed
(38:45):
significant time in both seasons, you know, especially last year
we missed the whole year. But I'm sure he'll be
a good player for a long time. But right now,
you have to go with the guy who's winning you games,
and in that division, especially where it's really only the Texans.
Other than that, it's wide open. The Titans are not good,
the Jaguars are terrible. If you're the Colts, you have
(39:06):
to put the guy out there who's gonna give me
the best chance to win right.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Now, right now, that is Flacco.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
I mean, it's I can't believe I'm saying that myself.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Right now now, I know it's it's it's Joe Flacco.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
I mean, the the shocking thing, John is he did
do well last year in Cleveland, right like off the bench,
off the off.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Sorry, that player of the Year last year in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Yeah, not off the bench, Hamlin, off the couch.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Yeah, he was literally off the couch and put up
numbers and took him to a playoff game and almost
won a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Well, all I can remember is that the two previous
years to that, he was with the Jets, and all
I can remember is that when he did get in
the game for the Jets, it looked like he was
just the grumpiest old man who had no interest in
playing football anymore. Ever, he was just standing out there,
hands and pockets like they weren't moving the ball. And
(40:07):
then I actually went back and looked to the Jets
numbers and I realized that he actually wasn't as bad
as I thought he was. And actually, Garrett Wilson's career
numbers are best with Joe Flacco of any of the quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
He that's actually hysterical right there.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
But I will say that he obviously since leaving the Jets,
has found a renaissance of sorts with the Browns last
year and now the Colts this year. So I don't know.
We'll see if this continues, We'll see if he gets
kept playing. But he has literally the longest streak of
two plus touchdown passes in a game going back to
last season, which you can't make up that stat.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
So good for him, man, good for him.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
The Chargers won a game against the Broncos that I
think a lot of people expected them to win coming
out of their buy. Kind of a weird situation with
Jim Harbaugh. Beginning of the game. He was unable to
start the game on the sideline due to I guess
an hrial flutter that he has. He did return. The
running game was really good. JK. Dobbins was excellent in
this game. Justin Herbert was pretty good as well, and
(41:06):
the Broncos, who had won three straight games, kind of
came back down to earth a little bit. Did anything
about the performance in this game from either team surprise
you in anyway? I think this was a pretty standard
game here, Chargers winning by a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
I don't think bow Knicks has been playing awfully great either, for.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
It has it struggled a little bit.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
But again, is it gonna struggle because bow Knicks can't
get first downs, Like they can't move the ball down
the field, So eventually your defense is gonna get tired, right,
But they have been. They have been a top defense
so far this year. So and and that's another thing
to take into consideration, John is what I want to
(41:52):
know is is that defense good because their offense is
good like it lat tacks on drives, gives defense some breathers.
I want to know how many Top five defenses in
the NFL have a top fifth. We'll say they're in
the top fifteen in the offensive standings, right like that.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
It's so funny because you always ask these questions as
if you can't google them to figure out the answer
before we come on the air.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Well, John, the crazy thing is, some of these things
just pop into my head, you know, at random, so
you can't really blame it just comes to me.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
I'm smelling another new segment called random with Randall or something.
We'll have to figure that out.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
Random thoughts, Random thoughts, something like that.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Randall Thoughts. The Steelers were able to beat the Raiders
pretty handily. The interesting story there coming out of the
game is that after they basically only scored I think
two touchdowns, they're talking about replacing Justin Fields with Russell
Wilson this week. Do you think that would be a
good idea for the steel right now? Who? I know
(43:01):
you have a bias against this team who the four
and two. Justin Fields has played pretty well. He's only
turned the ball over I think twice. Do you think
it would be a good idea to replace him right now?
With the mojo going on with this team?
Speaker 3 (43:12):
Well, I thought I read today John that they excuse me,
we're making the move like it.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
Wasn't confirmed yet. He's he's been getting first team reps
more so than he ever has all the year. But
people are people are thinking that potentially he could be
playing the Jets a little bit here because they're playing
the Jets Sunday night, and he thinks people think that
maybe he's just having a moment where he's trying to
(43:39):
throw off an interim head coach and make them prepare
for multiple.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
Guys that that could be put that could be possible.
I would I wouldn't put it, put it past Mike Tomlin.
But yes, you're only two turnovers for justin fields. Yeah,
but offense has been stagnant. You're not playing anybody good.
You're gonna play a good defense now, right with with
what potentially could be not a great offense or a
(44:05):
good offense, but an offense that's better than yours, Which
means theoretically, if they have the same defenses both teams,
maybe Pittsburgh's a little bit better, but New York's offense
is a little better than your offense, then I'd be
careful there. I think it is the right move to
put Russell Wilson in push the ball down the field.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Yes, wins and losses. That that does matter.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Not turning the ball over that does not that that
does not. That matters too. Okay, that does matter. However,
you have to go to Russell Wilson. You have to
what is it, move the ball downfield? If you can't
move the ball downfield, guess.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
What has he proven that he can do that the
last couple of years of the Broncos. I mean, he
used to be able to do that a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
But unless he's doing something in practice that is like wow, maybe,
I mean, that's the only thing I would say.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Look, I'm not disagreeing because I think if he's showing
that he can get the ball down the field reliably,
then that ultimately gives them a better balance in this
offense because they have guys like George Pickens who can
go make plays. They should be able to, in theory,
be a balanced offense, Whereas right now it's been a
lot of running. They've gotten some big pass plays, but
they've really been few and far between, and the main
(45:20):
main focal point of their offense has been Chris Boswell,
who's been kicking a hell of a job. He's been
doing a hell of a job as you're kicking. But
that's basically, you know, you're kicking too much for a
team that's getting this many scoring opportunities. You have to
find a way to put the ball in the end zone.
And maybe Russ is the answer. But quite frankly, I
think if you're four and two and the guy's not
turning the ball over, uh, maybe that's the guy to
(45:41):
stick with. But like you said, if he's showing something
in practice where they're saying, you know what, this guy's
ready and he can be a changer for a game
changer for us, then maybe that's why you ultimately make
the move.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
So yeah, because the thing.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
The thing too is when you're on a poor offense
like theirs, is.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
The turn when in the turnover battle is crucial.
Speaker 3 (46:00):
Yeah, right, just because if okay, if we're not gonna score,
well we can't be taking any chances that we might
be able to score out of our own hands. Yeah, okay,
So I do see your compelling argument there where it's oh,
thank you, you know, look at me using words like that.
So I do see where there you would say, hey,
(46:22):
let's stay with Justin fields until it makes complete sense
to go to Russ, like, hey, we're as long as
we keep winning, let's stay with what's got us there.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Right. It's like, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But if you can get better, why wouldn't you get better?
Speaker 1 (46:43):
Yeah, I agree, And ultimately they feel like it's the
best move, then they will do it. But they're four
and too Mike Tomlin doesn't seem to make the wrong
decision very often, all right, And then the last few
games we'll talk about real quick from this past week.
One of them was the Falcons kind of beating up
on the Panthers, or wasn't overly shocked by the end.
They finally played a couple of straight games with their
offenses looked really well. You know, Bjeon Robinson got out
(47:06):
rushed by Tyler al year, which is kind of shocking
to me to still a theme. But I'll take a
Falcons win because I have a lot of their fantasy
players on my fantasy team this year.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
Randall, Yeah, I have Tyler as Year on mine. He's
kind of my Yeah, he's my backup running back. I'm
gonna I'm in a deep dynasty league. Okay, So like
I had. I've had him for like two years now,
all right, all right, but I'm just hoping that it's
kind of like, you know, if if bjen if yeah,
(47:35):
b Jeon Robinson ever gets hurt, you know, I got
I got a guy there, you know that's gonna get
carries and he every time he gets the ball, he does.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Like he does well, he runs the ball. Well.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
Yeah, It's kind of like if you had like Woody
and he got hurt and he had like buzz light
years the backup?
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Right, are you trying to do a Word of the
Day on me or something like that? Is that what
this is?
Speaker 3 (47:58):
Am I I don't know, but yes, yes, yes, it
is exactly like that got what Really he's a one
A on one B option.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
Yeah, it's like Anchemima and Vermont maple syrup.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
You know, delicious ones delicious.
Speaker 3 (48:13):
No, Now, you can't be saying that it would be
like Vermont maple syrup and New Hampshire maple syrup. You know,
all right?
Speaker 1 (48:21):
What the Bengals beat the Giants by ten Joe Burrow,
This defense played well. The offense, eh whatever, Joe Burden
thirtny touchdowns. He had a fifty two year touchdown run,
but they were just kind of meh. So I'm still
waiting for the Bengals kind of to fully start clicking here. Randall,
you said earlier though, you think they're gonna come back
(48:42):
and win the Vision this year.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
Yeah, I mean the defense has been what's been struggled
for them.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Their defense is horrible. Yeah, at this time the defense
stepped up. I get it.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
It's against the Giants, but the last couple of games,
the Giants really haven't been that bad.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
They haven't.
Speaker 3 (48:58):
They didn't have milak As in there there.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
It is leak neighbors. They didn't have neighbors in there.
He was out.
Speaker 1 (49:09):
I think you're doing it on purpose.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Maybe that was on purpose. I don't know, wink wink, But.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
I do firmly, firmly, firmly, firmly, John believe Cincinnati is
gonna make a comeback. I truly know they're gonna make
it a very interesting race between them and the Ravens.
Pittsburgh should stall out right, they should stall out around
like eight wins.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
But I still think.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
They should stall out right around the eight win mark
because they always know these.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
Nine right exactly so and e or nine and eight.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
I'm just a joke. I'm making a joke how they
don't ever go eight nine.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
But yeah, they're gonna stall out.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
There, all right. And then the last game of the week.
And I saved this one for last on purposes because Randal,
I think we have to give out a booty cheek
team of the Year or team of the Week, and
I think that's only right we give it out to
the Dallas Cowboys, who find themselves at three and three.
But they have just been absolutely smacked around in a
couple of these losses. And this was no exception. They
(50:21):
did win their last two games because they played the
Giants and the Steelers. They were able to win those
games by combining eight points. But when you account for
the loss to the Saints by twenty five, the Ravens
loss was a close one, but they were down big early.
And now they lost forty seven to nine to the Lions. Randall,
I mean, I didn't know that the Lions were capable
(50:43):
of scoring forty seven points, let alone that the Cowboys
could give up that many.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
John John John, Yes, my god, I was watching that game,
just laughing my head off at Jerry's world on his birthday,
getting him barrassed.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
I love seeing that, love seeing that.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
Okay, and you want to know why, and it serves
him good reddance. This dude is cocky, thinks he's the
best GM for the team. Well, well, look what happens
to your team, Jerry, or your team is.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
Doing horrible hor ball? Okay.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
And I'm not sure if you heard him threaten to
fire the radio host.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
I don't even know right.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
First of all, the guy that's a that's not accurate,
but go ahead.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
What do you what do you he said he would
get him fired John.
Speaker 1 (51:42):
No, he said, I'll find somebody else to ask me
these questions. But if you listen to the entire interview
in its entirety, which I know you didn't. You only
heard the sound clip that's online, they end up amicably
get like when they got off the air, Jerry was like, oh,
have a great day, fellas, and they were like, have
a good fight, Jerry, we'll talk to you soon. So
everything was perfectly fine by the time they got off
(52:03):
the air, just saying.
Speaker 2 (52:05):
I still don't buy it. I still don't buy it.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
I can't fire them because that's not how that works.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
But a perfect perfect but AnyWho, AnyWho, Well, That's what
I'm saying. Like I didn't think he could unless he
owned the radio station for whatever reason. But I don't
think this Dallas Cowboys team is even going to make
the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
John, I don't.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Teams aren't going to make the playoffs. I love it.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
You should start a tracker on it because they are
not gonna make it.
Speaker 1 (52:40):
Should tracking a lot of things that you do, But
I don't you.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Really should, I mean, just keep it going. I mean
I probably the year.
Speaker 1 (52:47):
At the beginning of the year, I was gonna keep
a however counter for you, but I decided to get
rid of that. It was one of the new ideas
I had.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
But yeah, that would have been a great one.
Speaker 1 (53:01):
That would have been on the drawing board.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
God, I wish. I wish you did and then retalented
up at the end of the year. That would however, however, however,
job of.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
The double however too. All right, Well, I think that
does it for our week six recons.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Well what one one one, little one, little one?
Speaker 1 (53:19):
More thing you want to say?
Speaker 3 (53:21):
Detroit means business even with lot losing Aiden Hutchinson. They mean,
I mean Jared Goff, I mean, whoever let that guy go?
Speaker 2 (53:32):
Should be ashamed of themselves.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
If only the team that they le the team that
let him go, won a Super Bowl after it would
all be worth it.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
They did.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
But look at where you're at now, and look at
where he's at. This dude is riding the mountaintop high.
Could have went to the Super last.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Game against the Seahawks, right, and then he comes back
with this game after.
Speaker 2 (53:52):
Yeah, very very impeccable performance.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Well, I'm glad you gave him some love. But that
will recap. That does it for our recap of week six.
Let's move into our first of a few games here.
As we get towards the end of the episode, Randall,
it's time to play Guess that spread.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
It's time to play Guess that.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
Spread.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
I think that was one of our best ones ever.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
John, Yeah, except you always sound like ass. But it's
not your fault. It's the speaker that you're trying to
yell into. Okay, welcome back to Guess that spread last
week and guess that spread? I believe. Oh I had
it open. Now I have a closed. That's bad job
by me. Uh? Do we both go one and two?
Last week?
Speaker 2 (54:45):
We did?
Speaker 3 (54:46):
I remember you guessed the first one I got the
second one that is correct.
Speaker 1 (54:51):
Okay, So I think that means that you're going first still,
but I could be wrong, or maybe I know I'm
going first because I won the week before. So I
will give you one first if you'd like.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
Yeah, give it to me, John.
Speaker 1 (55:02):
All right, So let's start with the passing section as
we always do, and I'm gonna hit you with a
funny one right off the bat. I want you to
tell me, I guess it's not that funny. I'm going
to tell me how many passing yards do you think?
Why don't they have it on here? All right? Just
give me Joe Burrow. He's playing the Browns at Cleveland.
(55:25):
I was gonna give you Deshaun Watson, but it's not
listed right now and I don't feel like looking for it.
So give me Joe Burrow at Cleveland Sunday at one o'clock.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Joe Burrow is gonna throw for two sixty five and
a half. I know that's high with the way the
NFL has been going this year for quarterbacks, but give
me two sixty five and a half.
Speaker 1 (55:47):
Randall, you are incorrect. You inverted the numbers two fifty
six and a half. Ah, you were within nine. That's
pretty close.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
That is pretty close. John. Wow, Yeah, you hate to
see that. However, guess what you get to go?
Speaker 3 (56:04):
However, however, however, art to John, here we go.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
His name is.
Speaker 3 (56:14):
His name is Justin Herbert Chargers at Arizona at Arizona.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
Who just got torched by the Packers. This game is
on Monday night. It's one of the two Monday night games.
I'm gonna say Justin Herbert's number is gonna be somewhere
up around two fifty let's say two forty now to
fifty three and a half.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
I'm gonna give you one more chance here. Do you
want to go a little higher or a little lower.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
Well, I can only assume that you'd only give me
another chance if you heard me start to say the
right number, unless you want to play games with me
here and you're trying to get me to go the
other way on purpose. I'm gonna amend my pick and
I'm gonna go with two forty nine and a half.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
I'm glad you did that, John, I'm glad you did that.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
I'm proud of you. The correct answer is one ninety
two and a half.
Speaker 1 (57:22):
Oh my god, that was great. One and a half.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
Heer, dude, that's what I'm saying, man, That is what
I'm pretty funny.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
That was pretty funny. I did not see that going now.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
I also, I'm gonna give you a second chance here.
I want I want to give you one more quarterback.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
Please give me.
Speaker 2 (57:43):
I'm giving you Josh Allen here Tennessee at Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
Oh, this number is gonna be high with Amari Cooper.
Uh to forty and a half?
Speaker 2 (57:56):
You want to I'm gonna give you a second chance.
Speaker 3 (57:58):
You're fifteen and a half, one and half?
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Why are these numbers so low? They're playing? Are not good?
Speaker 3 (58:08):
That's the funniest thing I've ever my man said. I'm
going from two forty five to two point fifteen on
the second chance.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
This time you.
Speaker 1 (58:16):
Did the same thing. I'm like, Oh, it's got the
same shit.
Speaker 3 (58:19):
But one ninety nine and one ninety two for two
of the best long ball throwers and strongest storms in
the NFL.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
How wild is that? It is?
Speaker 1 (58:27):
Wild? Okay, running back time? Give me the number for
my man. Kyron Williams. They're playing at home against the
Raiders on Sunday, must win game here for the Rams.
Speaker 3 (58:40):
He's been killing it. John I'm gonna go with seventy
eight and a half yards.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
I feel like that.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
I'm gonna give you another chance, another chance to go
lower or higher.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
You're saying, give me eighty three and a half still
too low?
Speaker 1 (58:57):
Ninety one and a half was my My guy, he's
he's really trending upwards. He might be the highest guy
right now as far as rushing totals for a game.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
Wow, good for him, Good for him.
Speaker 1 (59:08):
Yeah wow, you.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
Gave me a second chance, John, And know what I
did with it? I spat in your face with it. Alrighty,
here we go.
Speaker 1 (59:16):
On with the second chances.
Speaker 2 (59:17):
By the way, that was it me too. Kareem Hunt
Kansas City Hat, San fran.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Kareem Hunt in a great baby coming off of Bye.
Speaker 2 (59:28):
What do you got? So?
Speaker 1 (59:30):
Is he still the feature guy? Like these other guys
aren't back yet? Clyde Edwards lay not healthy?
Speaker 2 (59:34):
Correct, he's still the feature.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
I'm gonna say this number is gonna be give me
against that defense forty five and a.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
Half, bigning forty.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
Nine and the hell baby I at Wow, Yeah, all right,
I'm there.
Speaker 2 (59:57):
You are in.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
You are in young, great great job. I'm proud of you.
That's a really good on, really good one.
Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
Thank you appreciate that. That means that I'm in the
pole position right now because if you don't get this,
I guarantee you win, all right, So I'm gonna give
you a good one here. I want you to give
me the receiving number prop.
Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
Actually, no, what do you mean. If I don't get this,
you win. We didn't do wide receivers yet.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
I gotta get a running back. If I don't get it,
I got a running back and you didn't get it.
Karen Williams, Oh yeah, shit, oh shit, you have to
get this one to tire me.
Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Otherwise, as I just said, I win. Y. Okay, So
Carolina at Washington, I would like you to give me
the number for Deontey Johnson, who plays for the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Well, John, you fucked up here because you want to
know why Deontaey Johnson is not my fantasy team. Okay,
all right, He's playing on a franchise tag for me
right now?
Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
Yeah, he is. So that means what his over under
number is gonna be against Washington on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
I know what his projection is.
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
His projection is like thirteen and a half points, fourteen points,
which means he's which he means probably half and this
is a half PPR, which basically means so I should.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
Have looked at it. Let's see here.
Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
It means he's probably gonna get five points for receptions.
So we're gonna say ten receptions, eight receptions. We're gonna
say four receptions. That's gonna be two.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
You have five seconds to give me an answer.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
Forty we're gonna we're gonna say sixty seven and a
half yards.
Speaker 1 (01:01:44):
Oh, Randal, Randall, Randy, you dirty bastard, sixty eight and
a half. Wow, that the first exactly, and you again
from that, like the buzzer hit one so that I'm
gonna have to hit one.
Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
To now Wow, wow, Wow, I could have if I
had an exactly, that would have won the game too.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
If you don't get this right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
So now we're tired. Now I have to get this
to win.
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
Yeah you do, dude. Now what do I want to be? John?
Speaker 3 (01:02:15):
Do I want to be a dick and give you
and give you a guy named something something I don't
even know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
No, you can't pronounce the guy's name, which is the
case for a lot of people for you. But if
you can't pronounce the guy's name or you don't even
know who he is, then.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
Know okay, okay, Well let's go with a guy named
tyreek Kill that everybody knows my at the Colts.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
This little number is gonna be stinky because they've been
so bad on offense without TUA. I can't imagine this
number is higher than like sixty five and half, and
that's pretty high. So I'm gonna go fifty nine and
a half.
Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Do son of its fifty five point five?
Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
Oh, baby, want to move move sixty five?
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
I was like, I got it that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
He said, Ah, that's my first win in guess that
spread this year, because every other week we've either tied
or you won. So I'm taking that right to save.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
You're worthy for Kansas City. My goodness, gracious.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
From the rafters, baby, let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Congratulations man, congratulations.
Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
That does it for.
Speaker 3 (01:03:50):
Get best that spread?
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Great job, great job as always. All right, let's move
into hard locks. Last week I went three and oh.
It was the first time all year either one of
us went three and oh. Although you did get back
to your strong winning ways as well. You were two
and one, which is your fourth time out of six
weeks being two and one, and it was the first
(01:04:18):
time in the last three weeks that you've had a
winning record, So welcome back to the winters pool. This
three and oh record, however, is my first winning record
of the year on hardtes.
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
Two.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
I know, I was one and two, then one, one
and one, and then one and two, one and two,
one and two, and now three and oh. And I
had a good week otherwise picking all the games as well,
which has been a common theme for me. But I
was nine and five in the overall picks. You were
six and eight, So we'll just keep tracking that at home.
But since I was three and oh, I think that
means I get.
Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
To go first, right, you got it, John?
Speaker 1 (01:04:57):
All right, Well, then the first one I'm gonna take
here for my first first hard lock of the day
is the La Rams minus six and a half. We back, baby,
they're playing against the Raiders. The Raiders are a shell
of themselves right now. They're gonna be without DeVante Adams,
obviously after trading him. I will say that we have
the distinction of playing the Raiders for the first game
(01:05:18):
of the Tom Brady ownership era, since he was just
approved yesterday. But we're also going to hand the Raiders
the first loss of the Tom Brady era ownership era,
and it's going to be by at least seven points.
I'm very confident the Rams start their comeback right now
this week. Give me the Rams minus six and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
You clearly, John, clearly. John did not did not hear
the rumor that Tom Brady's actually gonna be starting a
game on so.
Speaker 1 (01:05:48):
But I did hear Mark Davis say that they essentially
traded DeVante Adams for a third round pick Brady, And
I'm like, that's not how that works.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
That's funny.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
I'm gonna go with my first one, Minnesota minus one
and a half at home, Bursuta truit.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
Wow, Okay, the Vikings. Okay, I'm going to sound the
dog horn and woof at you. I'm gonna go with
the opposite of that. Give me the Lions. I see
it at two right now. But you said one and
a half, and I don't want to go away from that,
(01:06:27):
so I'll stick to one and a half. Give me
the Lions plus one and a half here to win, John, game, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
What what do you? What are the odds at for two?
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
I'm seeing it at plug.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Let me see here, are you minus one ten.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
Minus one ten for minus two?
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Yes, and plus two? Same thing for Detroit. So if
you're taking Detroit, it was minus wow. See that's the
you know rumor has it? Vegas? Sorry not Vegas, New Jersey,
your home state has the best, Like it's the best
place for betting sports because there's so many books and
(01:07:09):
you can get the different line changes like this, Like
that is a line change.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
You would want to take your.
Speaker 1 (01:07:14):
Finds in Massachusetts all the time now because it's they're
so drastically different on some of the sites for some reason.
Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
Oh and it's crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
I mean, especially when it's like this, where yeah, that
half point can make a difference, especially if it's the
same odds of yeah, minus one ten, why wouldn't you
take the extra half?
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
Or if you're well, if you're going with the dog,
if you're betting the favorite, yeah, let's take the minus
one and a half because it yeah, because.
Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
That means two points is a winner rather than a push.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
So exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
And I feel like over time it actually makes you're
gonna you're gonna win, You're gonna make more money over
time by doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Yeah, I mean, because you're gonna push games that you
end up winning if you have the odd with the
half point. It's why sometimes it's it's worth it to
buy the half point if you can tease it on
one of these books. But yeah, I'm gonna take the
Lions because they've been so good lately. Vikings are due
for a loss. I know that they're coming off of
bye after coming back from London, and that they might
(01:08:11):
even get TJ. Hockinson back, but I think that they
are just due for a loss. They're not gonna go
undefeated this year. This Lions team is really good. And
if you're giving me the Lions underdogs, I don't care
if it's on the road, I will take them as underdog.
So I'll take the Lions perfect.
Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Give me John, I've been hyping them up all day.
Cincinnati minus five and a half at Cleveland. Okay, I
know it's a road game, but I don't care, John,
Cincinnati's coming to mean business.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
They're gonna pummel them on the road. Pummel city, you think,
pumble city.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Okay, for my last pick here, I'm going to go
with I'm a little conflicted. That's such a big spread.
Bill's minus nine. All right, I'm gonna go my last one.
I'm gonna go with Atlanta minus three. They're at home.
They're playing Seattle. I do think the Seahawks are better
(01:09:08):
than they've shown the last couple of weeks. But I
think this Falcons team has really started to turn a
corner with Kirk Cousins and this offense, and I just
think that being at home is the difference in this game.
For me, It's not a gigantic spread. I'd feel a
little bit better if I saw it at minus two
and a half rather than three. But you know what,
I can live with three points because I think the
Falcons ultimately win by at least a field goal. So
(01:09:30):
if it's a push, it's a push. But I'll think
the Falcons minus three.
Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
I mean I was thinking Bills as well, but that
line is so heavy.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
So that's why I'm gonna take it. John, give me
Bills minus nine.
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Amari Cooper two touchdowns, one hundred and forty five yards,
ten receptions.
Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
Wow, So if you, if hold on keep talking, give
me a little bit more on your pick there.
Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
I like the Bills, man.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
They're playing the booty cheek team of the week that
you just said in the Tennessee Titans, well, actually you
said Dallas Cowboys on Tennessee. It was pretty booty chick too.
I just think Buffalo they're due for a clean, sweet blowout.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
And guess what they've been doing. They've been doing the
bad teams.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Dirty all season long, right, so it's no surprise to
me that this is gonna be a double digit win
for the Bills.
Speaker 1 (01:10:20):
I was trying to see if I could build the
same game parlay real quick with the things that you
just said. So Bill's money line, well, actually Bill's minus nine,
and then let's do two touchdowns for Mari Cooper. I
don't know if I'll be able to do this quickly
because right now I can't find all the lines on
(01:10:41):
the same book. Yeah, but that would be a fun
parlay to put together. So I think if you're at home,
you should parlay Bill's minus nine with Amari Cooper ten catches,
Amari Cooper two touchdowns, and Amari Cooper one hundred and
fifty yards or whatever you said. That'd be fun. They'd
probably be like, Plus.
Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Hey, let's win some money, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
That does it for hard locks. We'll see how we
do hard locks. You're so much better doing the barking
thing to me. All right, Well, that brings us to
the last part of the show here, which is the
word of the day, and randall the pundits out there
are saying you should retire this segment. Man, They're saying
that I've conquered it. I have figured it out. I'm
(01:11:27):
four four wins in a row, going for five. I'm
wondering is there anything left for me to accomplish in
this game?
Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
I mean, the thing is John like it. It makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
I mean I use obscure words once or twice in
the show, so obviously you're gonna know what it is now.
I just gotta maybe throw in some little things about
in and about So let's let's say this.
Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
Then let's go with I get the word. You have
to guess it, jaah on what is the word? All right?
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
Well, I I only have one guess, and it could
very well be that you finally got one over on
me and you slip something else in here, because there
was a couple of times where I'm like, oh, is
he trying to do something here? Is he trying to
say something else? But I have to stick with my
original thought process. And that's the word that I read
back to you a little while ago, or the words.
(01:12:24):
I think it's some variation of the anchemima and the
Vermont maple syrup. I have to stick with my guns there.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
I like it. I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
Let's fine out what it is. John Baker Mayfield is
like a maple syrup. So the word was maple syrup.
So like it, you were on the right track, so
(01:12:53):
it was fitting threading the needle there.
Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
So I would put this one as a tie. John,
that's fair.
Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
I think honestly that you should probably get the win because,
like I was focused more on anemia than anything else.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Because well you said, you said your mima maple syrup,
so like.
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
I don't know, I'll give you the win there. I
think it's only fair.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
I appreciate.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
I was I was been only to settle for a tie,
but I appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:13:21):
But I don't think anybody likes ties. This isn't the
John Randalls soccer experience, you.
Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Know, or or NFL overtime, which is still mind boggling
to me that the NFL, the premier sport in all
the world, still can end.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
In a tie. It literally never happens. So, I mean
it happened last year.
Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
It happens like once every two years exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
So why would the number one premier sport ever should
have ever ended a tie? If in college they don't
do ties, the NFL should figure out, Okay, we can't
do ties.
Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
My adult league softball league ends and ties. We had
one last night.
Speaker 2 (01:13:58):
Oh that's brutal. You guys not do an extra innings, dude.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
They know we don't do extra intings. There's like the lights.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
It's not one pitch in the extra innings. If it's
a ball, it's a walk. If it's a strike, it's
a k.
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
If it's a radical Florida rules, My man, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
I feel bad for you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
Man, I'm speaking of which I actually gotta go to
my game right now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
John, So.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
We didn't talk about that. You wanted to talk about tonight.
I even slipped in some Bailey's appy talk.
Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
You you really did, John.
Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
I'm just I feel like me and you are firing
on all cylinders right now. We didn't play in the preseason,
so it took us a couple of games to get going.
But now we are in our groove. Baby, I mean
speak for yourself. Man, I've been in the groove the
whole time. You you have been, you have been. I'm
just saying, felgrim maz, they better watch out.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
All right. Well that about does it for us. Then
another solid show here tonight, Raydall, thanks.
Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
For hopping on with me.
Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
Good looking your softball game tonight, my friend.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
Appreciate it, my man.
Speaker 1 (01:15:05):
And that with d you can take us home with the.
Speaker 4 (01:15:07):
Song Goodbye, goodbye, good friends, goodbye. This was the John
and Randall show us herriots.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
He's hitting all the notes tonight, folks.
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
I'm gonna hit the battle out the parking softball.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
If Holy John was playing with me, was playing with me?
Speaker 5 (01:15:34):
