Hey guys, welcome to an all new episode of the
k WATS podcast. I'm your host Kashawn Watson, but you
know me as KA Watts, and I am super excited
(00:47):
about this week's episode. Y'all. It is a solo episode
and I have been learning to love these I really do.
I love to kind of like come catch up with
you guys, tell you all the conversation I'm having with
God and with others, and all the questions that I've
been asking since last week. So one, let's catch up.
(01:10):
Last episode, my love Bug was on, which I is
probably like one of my favorite guests ever. But I
love the fact that we're able to kind of like
unpack things. And if you listened, then you know that
it was in reference to like trusting God and how
that impacts our faith and the difference between belief and
trust and the nuances. So if you haven't, definitely go
(01:33):
back and re listened to that episode, it was a
really good one. This week, let's see, I'm gonna be real,
There's been a lot going on on social media. There's
been a lot of news breaking, and I'm expecting there
to be more news breaking and for social media to
go through the frenzy that it always does us entering
(01:56):
into political season, into you know, all of the things
in relation to election year. So one of the things
that I've just really been talking to the Lord about,
(02:16):
one of the things that I've really just been you know,
presenting to the Lord has been how to navigate this
season of a life that I'm in, also being aware
that there seems to be relatability of what we're all
going through in the country and the world as a nation.
(02:39):
There just seems to be a lot of similar experiences
at least similar alerts. Right. It's something when everyone is
getting the same announcements, right, And I think that I'm
just at the place where I'm just really asking God,
like where would you like me to focus? Like I
(03:00):
don't know if anyone else can attest to this, but
when I am in a different type of like seasoned
era of my life, which right now it is really
focusing on my business, the brand, my home, my marriage,
(03:21):
but then there is like big national news, there's a
certain part of me that feels a little self centered
that I'm not so emotionally attached to what's going on.
And I was reminded of just people saying to sound out,
(03:43):
like close out the noise, like silence the outside noise.
And that's hard when outside noise could be national news. Right.
So the other night, as I was just kind of
like really talking to the Lord about like how do
you want me to focus in, he reminded me of
a passage in First Peter one thirteen when it starts off,
(04:09):
you know, girding up our lloyds of our mind. And
he sent me to that passage, and I want to
read it for contexts for you, So let me pull
that up, and I think this is good. I think
that maybe not everyone's is the same, but I think
(04:29):
actually seeking the Lord and asking him how he wants
you to navigate in this season, if that is in support,
if that isn't out loud support, if that is in
silence support, if that is in you just being able
to spend more time in the secret place with him
praying and in our seeding on behalf of our country
(04:52):
and our nation. I think that we really just need
to seek the Lord first, even when it comes to
things that make national news. So the scripture that he
took me to was one Peter one thirteen, and it
reads in the NIV. Therefore, with minds that are alert
and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to
(05:13):
be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at
his coming verse fourteen. As obedient children do not conform
to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance,
verse fifteen. But just as he who called you is holy,
so be holy in all you do verse sixteen. For
(05:37):
it is written, be holy because I am holy. Listen.
This passage of scripture got me together, and I'm going
to tell you why, because it is very easy to
get caught up in doing what we feel like is right.
(05:58):
But I am reminded that God calls us to be holy,
He calls us to Him first. So soon as I
find myself wanting to be on the right side of things,
soon as I find myself really wanting to show up
in a way and improve a point, approve a factor,
(06:23):
or state something that is factual, I'm reminded that as
much as I want to be right, God has called
me to be holy. So him telling me to keep
my mind sober and to be holy in all of
the things I do. That comes into what I consume,
(06:48):
the content that I consume, the announcements that I take home,
all of the things. And I'm at this point in
time to where there is a lot of noise going
on out here. It is loud, and it doesn't matter
how loud it gets. God's commands just don't change. So
(07:11):
in this season, during the election, during voting, during the slander,
during the secrets, during the excuses, all of the things,
I am reminded what my job is as a child
of God, and that is to seek Him first. That
is to be holy, Because God is holy, so when
(07:33):
people start getting messy, oh chowd hmm. And then if
you really want to be honest. What I have noticed,
and I am talking about us as believers, is that
(07:55):
we can be real messy in the name of Jesus.
And I don't know why we do that, because the
Lord does not tell us ever to be messy. The
Lord tells us to share his message, the Gospel of
Jesus Christ. He calls us to be holy, he calls
us close to him. But it seems as though we
(08:18):
can get real messy and do it in the name
of Jesus. And we can be very sarcastic, we can
be passive, aggressive, we can be flippant. But if you
saw a post that I did recently, then you know
that repentance is not flippant and we shouldn't treat it
as such. You want to be right. Have you repented
(08:41):
for the wrong before you start throwing stones? Jesus asked
for the person that wants to through the first stone
at the woman that had infidelity in her marriage. If
you are without sin, then you throw the first stone. Well,
what happened? All those people just started leaving one by
(09:05):
one to where it was just hurt, and Jesus left,
and Jesus forgave her and sent her on her way.
Because when it comes down to it, none of us
are right, and none of us are without fault, none
of us are blameless. So that's the passage that I'm
(09:30):
resting on. That's the passage that I am sitting in
in this season. As we are preparing to make choices
for ourselves, if you will, I say, make choices for ourselves,
I really feel like it's not us making choices for ourselves.
(09:51):
I think it's us making choices for for our government,
for our politics and those things. And let me just
be clear. I think that that is important. I think
that we do have a duty to vote, to vote
(10:17):
based on what the Bible is telling us. But I
also think that we have to be very mindful of
not becoming self righteous. And I think that when it
comes to certain arguments, when it comes to certain topics,
it is very easy for us to become self righteous.
(10:38):
And I think that we have to remember the point.
We have to remember who our God is. We have
to remember what he calls us to do, and that
is to make disciples. So if the message is not
leading them closer, to Jesus, than what message are we given?
(11:03):
It's not the spirit of the Lord. So I'm reminded
to keep my mind sober, and that does play a
factor in things that I'm going to consume videos, I'm
going to watch, comments that I'm going to read. So
I am more in a season of creating than consuming.
(11:24):
I'm just gonna be honest, That's where I'm at. There's
times when I will, which I did. I took spring
break to really, you know, get ready for this season
of the podcast. But then also I took the time because,
as you guys know, I have the company say Grays
(11:44):
and Coe, and I was getting ready to lead and
to host women and to cultivate a safe space for
faith based content creators and entrepreneurs. So I really wanted
to do my due diligence and not just creating a
whole bunch of things. And I wanted to do my
due diligence and making sure that I was consuming the
(12:05):
word needed to be consumed, that I was faithfully postured
in a place just to be able to hear and
receive from the Lord. That I also was checking the
temperature and the pulse of the marketplace because that is
a thing like checking the pulse of like the marketplace
(12:27):
and what we are as ministers of the Gospel are
currently putting out there for the world to consume. You know,
that is part of the job, is to know the
pulse of what's happening. But in this season, I'm not
doing too much consuming. I'm doing a little bit more creating.
And I think that while I'm creating, I'm mindful of
(12:48):
everything that I'm in. Taking one because it's very easy
to start copying what someone else is saying. It's also
very easy to regurgitate what you've heard, Like we all
do it. Kids do it with their parents. You can
always tell who you're around the most because you start
sounding like them, so you start regurgitating the words and
(13:11):
the statements, sometimes even the tone. Like I know when
I hang around my mom, because I start sounding like her,
I start responding like her, right, love her, love her tone.
But there are moments when I'm like, yep, yep, sound
like my mom. There sure do. So there is a
(13:34):
moment to where when I am creating content that I
want to be inspired and motivated by the message of Jesus.
Then that means that what I would need to be
meditating on the word of God, I would need to
be meditating and seeing other disciples express his message in
(13:59):
this season, a question that I'm asking, I guess to
you guys that are listening, is who are you listening
to and why? I have certain podcasts that I listen to,
and there are reasons why I listen to each one
(14:21):
of them. Some I genuinely enjoy the way that they
present their content, like it is I am a fan
or a like. I love great content. I love when
there is intentionality behind producing something great. Others, I'll just
(14:43):
be honest. It edifies me in a way. It edifies
my soul. It edifies my spirit in such a way
to where I'm a tore every time I consume the content.
So I'm I'm I'm listening to grow, I'm listening to
be edified, I'm listening to be matured. There are others
(15:06):
where I'm listening because I'm literally doing market research. I
am looking at who's in the same field that I
am in and seeing like, how are they producing their content?
How are they structuring their content? And they're in the message,
like what does that look like? So the question that
(15:28):
I'm asking this season to you, guys, is who are
you listening to and why are you listening to like
minded messages? Are you listening to someone that will challenge
the hidden agendas and prejudices behind the scene and biases
that you may not be publicly putting out there, but
(15:50):
you know they're there. What type of content are you
consuming and what is the reason behind the consumption. I
think that it's necessary for us to really be mindful
of why we listen to what we listened to. I
(16:13):
remember when I was single, I consumed a lot of
content that was in relation to helping single women and
sometimes even single men find healthy relationships, give advice and
counsel on what it means to find a great spouse. Like,
I consumed a lot of that content. I'm gonna be
(16:36):
one hundred and ten percent honest with you, Like, I
don't know if I've ever sat this. I don't. I
probably haven't. I don't know if I've ever sat this publicly,
but I'm going to say it publicly now. Out of
all the content that I consumed as a single person,
thinking that I was actually getting nuggets and tips on
(16:58):
how to best set myself up and a healthy, thriving
godly relationship. I want to be real with you. None
of it mattered when I met my husband, And I
mean when I say none of it mattered, I'm not
discrediting the content. I'm not discrediting the counsel. I'm not
(17:20):
discrediting the messenger. What I'm saying is when it came
down to actually me meeting my spouse, it was literally
a conversation in conversations that I was having with the
Lord himself. When it has come down to figuring out
how I navigate being a new wife right, how I
(17:40):
navigate showing up and being married to a minister, to
a pastor, there wasn't any content that helped me. It
was the counsel of the Holy Spirit. Now that doesn't
mean that I didn't reach out or have women in
(18:04):
my life that were able to offer support, that were
able to offer encouraging words, that were able to empathize
and maybe certain things that I was going through, I
did have that. But when it came to deciding factors,
(18:25):
when it came to trusting and really making solid choices,
it wasn't good content that helped me make that choice.
It was the counsel, the correction of the Holy Spirit himself.
(18:49):
That's what it was. And I think sometimes, you know,
especially if you are in a season of not having
if you will, and maybe that is not having a spouse,
maybe it is not having a child, maybe it is
not having the career. We really do look for, you know,
good content to help us navigate the season. But can
(19:10):
I just be real with you, good content and help
me navigate my single season? The Lord himself did, The
Lord himself counseled me, The Lord himself comforted me, the
Lord himself corrected me. I'm not discrediting the content. I'm
(19:30):
just saying, if you really want to know, it's the
counsel of the Holy Spirit, that's who you need to seek.
That's who you need to trust. That's who you need
to take tips from. Just obey what the Lord says,
seek his face first. And I say this being a
(19:57):
content creator, I say this, you know, owning a company
that supports and gathers other Christian content creators and influencers,
And you want to know the common theme of every
single person that comes in the room is that they
all have a genuine Maybe genuine isn't the word, but authentic.
(20:24):
Maybe authentic isn't a word, But a word that I
will use is that they're all very humble and willing
to say it is by God's grace alone. Majority of
them either say if you go back and you look
at testimonials of people that you may think like, Wow,
they've made it, They've done it. A common thing that
(20:48):
I have witnessed over the last let's say five to
seven years is people either sharing I had no idea
what I was doing, but I was just trusting God.
That is a very common theme that you hear or
you hear I actually struggled in this area for a
(21:11):
very long time. This was not I am not a
product of overnight success. I am a product of stewarding
a small seed for a long time, and you are
now witnessing the harvest of my stewardship. Those are the
stories and the testimonials that I hear. So when you
(21:33):
unpack that, when you really listen, what you're telling me
is that it was God himself, by his grace, that
gave that to you, that sustained you, that counseled you,
that taught you. So why what I rely on outside
(22:01):
to make a major decision? Why would I rely on
outside council to make a major life decision. So that
is the question that I think I'm asking the Lord
(22:24):
in this season, and I've asked him before, who do
I trust? I forget what episode I did, maybe like
a couple of years ago, and I was moving to
a new city, and I remember asking the Lord like
who do you want me to befriend? Like who should
(22:46):
I reach out to? Who should I connect with? How
do I know that these are people that I should
connect with? And he responded and said, you will know
them by their fruit. And that is always stuck with
me because now when I am choosing to do relationship
(23:08):
with people, I look at the fruit. I look at
the fruit, and that has served me. Well. It's not
been a perfect like that in a thousand, but it's
been pretty close. And now the prayer isn't really me
(23:38):
asking God, who do I trust? Right, because I've noticed
we just aren't trusting people, y'all, Like we don't trust nobody.
We don't trust this news station, we won't trust this outlet,
we won't trust this church, we don't trust we just
ain't trusting nobody. So at this point it's not even
(24:00):
off of like, Okay, well who do I trust this
is literally the question, isn't that anymore? It's really a statement.
It's really got prompting it to me. Trust me? Do
(24:21):
you trust me? And it's just so interesting how seasons change,
how uncertain seasons. The Lord has helped me to be
able to trust others. But there is a fine line
(24:42):
between seeking validation from others and truly trusting God. And
I'm in a season where I am relying on the
Holy Spirit solely when it comes to decisions. When it
comes to what media outlets should I listen to? What
podcast should I listen to? What places should I go?
(25:05):
What call should I answer? What I listen, I'm asking
the Lord. I'm not even doing it based on like, oh,
they're like minded, Okay, I listen. I'm gonna be real
with you. I don't know what's in other people's minds.
I can only go based on what the Holy Spirit
(25:25):
reveals to me. So I am seeking him when it
comes to making decisions. And I really do feel like
if we call ourselves holy ghoes filled believers, if we
say that we are disciples of Jesus, that if we
are denying our flesh and picking up our cross daily
to walk with Him, then we have to then ask
(25:46):
him daily, what should I listen to? What should I consume?
Especially in times when every loud, especially when there's a
new news story that is breaking on the internet every
(26:07):
single week that is tugging on heartstrings. That is is
that is causing us to be able to rethink our policies,
our politics, all of the things. Listen. I don't really
speak on if y'all. If you guys have been following
(26:28):
me for a while, then you know I don't really
speak on politics. You know, I don't really use my
platform to share one way or the other. I've never
been that person. Part of it is is because I
think that politics are personal. I also think that politics
really should be given to the Lord, unless God has
(26:50):
told you that you are to use use that area
to be able to minister the gospel right, not to
not to shout our prejudice, our biases, and our preferences,
but a lot of politics, that's what it is. We
are shouting our preferences, our biases, our prejudices, and the
(27:14):
reasons why we think that we should have them. And
I'm speaking of all of us as a genuine, genuine population.
So considering that politics can be such an area of
contention for so many people that it can be a
source of strife for so many people, that it is
divisive in so many different ways. Yeah, I do seek
(27:37):
the Lord on that, and I do request his help
and request his counsel and request to know, like, what
do you think? Lord? At this point, everybody else has
said what they think. Okay, thoughts have been stated, opinions
have been made, slander has been secrets revealed, plots have
(28:04):
been created. So Lord, I know that there's nothing new
underneath the sun, and I know that you are sovereign,
So share with me how you would like me to
proceed here with this in this because if it's something
(28:25):
that I know is that he's going to get the
glory period, And as a worshiper, my job is to
give him glory in all that I do. And the
scripture and the passage that I just read and one
Peter one thirteen it talks about that, It talks about
(28:47):
giving glory to Jesus Christ and all the things that
we do. It's not just in one area, and it's
not just with one thing, and one sees in one
part of time. So that's where I've been this last week.
(29:09):
That's what I've been bringing to the Lord. That's what
I've been sharing, That's what has been on my heart.
And I just really want to pray into this season
of transition for us as a country, as a nation,
(29:31):
but more importantly, I really want to cover us as
believers and disciples of Jesus, because I think that there
is something so powerful that happens when we unify and
when we stay steadfast on what the assignment is. And
I will say it again, we were created to give
(29:54):
God glory and when we said yes to being a disciple,
it was to go and make other disciples. So as
I wrap up this episode, I just want to just
leave that with you. Is as you are consuming, ask
(30:19):
the Lord what and as you are navigating this season
of election of vote like all the things, where to
put your support, what to vocally share, what to intercede for?
What that looks like for you and your home and
(30:40):
your family. These are the things. So, Father God a
name of Jesus, Lord, thank you for this place and
this platform, just to be able to share your goodness.
Thank you for giving us breath in our body, just
to be able to worship you you and to praise you,
(31:01):
Father God. Lord, I just ask for every single person
that's listening to this podcast right now, Lord, that you
just make your voice clear there is no confusion on
who you are and what you've said, Father God, that
your counsel and your comfort and your correction will be
(31:22):
made known to every single person that is listening, Father God,
that when it comes to making decisions, Lord, that we
will trust you in your way. That we will call
on your name Jesus, that as we navigate the season
and that we process all of the things, Father God,
(31:46):
that you are with us and you are in the
midst that the world will not consume us and we
will not conform to it. That we will say steadfast
on doing exactly what it is that you have said
and spoken to us directly. That we will love you
with our whole hearts, and we will trust you in
(32:08):
all your ways. We thank you, we will honor you
and Jesus name. We pray Amen, Amen and amen. Y'all O.
