Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hey, everybody, Welcome to the Christin Agopian Show. Shout outs
from everybody here in Studio B as we connect with
our two hundred plus stations coast to coast via the
BIZ Talk Radio and BBS Radio Networks. Greetings to you all.
This week's show is brought to you by our caring
sponsors at Elite Rehab. We're doing this every week, folks,
(00:23):
because everyone knows a family that's fighting the effects of
today's substance abuse epidemic. It's everywhere, and if someone you
care about needs help, pick up the phone and call
the professionals at eight hundred nine three two four zero
a two. That's eight hundred nine three two four zero
a two. Help the ones you love put that chapter
(00:46):
behind them. Eight hundred nine three two four zero a two. Guys,
I am looking at the calendar and kind of freaking out.
First of all, had a great birthday last week. Thank
you all so much for your well wishes via text
and Facebook and everything else. Victor's birthday is the day
after mine, so we always have such a fabulous time
(01:08):
this time of year, and that means August is upon us.
Cannot believe how fast the summer is flying. But here
it is probably the same thing for you guys, but
still a good month of summer fun to be had
before the kids and the grandkids head off to school.
But it's also a great time to prep and believe
it or not, people don't think of August as a
(01:31):
great month for saving money on certain things. However, it
is a prime month for saving loads of money on
several purchases that you might not be aware of. So,
in no particular order, Number one, the most obvious one
back to school supplies. They're starting to all these various
stores are getting kind of crazed with this. Although I
have to preface this by I have to caution you,
(01:53):
if your house is anything like mine, get yourself to
your ear kitchen drawer drawer that's got everything in it,
or the drawer in your home den at home, you know,
the desk drawer that has everything in it. I was
in there recently looking for the sticky pads that we have,
you know, for the little post it notes. I must
have found I'm not kidding you, at least one hundred
(02:14):
pencils in there. Enjoy the visual of my kitchen drunk,
of my kitchen junk drawer. It's not even junk. Guys.
I go into this drawer every single day for pens
and pencils and post it notes and you name it.
I mean everything's in there. So if yours is anything
like mine, do a little shopping at home. First of all,
if you still need stuff. Classroom products hit the store
(02:36):
shelves in July to begin with, but sales are far
better in August. They're gonna really ramp them up, particularly
as the beginning of school approach is saying the next
two weeks. So look at the back to school sales
at the department stores and the office supply chains for everything,
for the backpacks, the other essentials. And as with any sale,
remember every year gets easier and easier to download these apps.
(03:00):
That is just going to slash your costs, slash your prices.
I am not much of an app gal. I am
more of a crikeslist goodwill gal, but I'm hearing from
people who swear by it, especially with these big back
to school chain stores with the office applies. Find it,
download it, have some fun with it, and don't forget
to shop at home. Here's something interesting. Somebody sent me this.
(03:20):
If your state participates in a back to school state
sales tax holiday, and a lot of people do. I'm
going to say it again, a back to school state
sales tax holiday. People think that's not going to be
all that relevant to them. How much could it cost.
Believe it or not, people are spending. An average household
is spending about seven hundred bucks per household for back
(03:44):
to school, which kind of makes me gag just a
little bit. But that means there's going to be some
significant sales tax in there as well. So you can
use this window. For example, Texas residents, we got a
lot of listeners in the state of Texas can make
eligible clothing purchases less than one hundred dollars per item
free of sales and use taxes from August tenth to
the twelfth. You gotta love that. For a full listing,
(04:06):
we got listeners coast to coast and for a full
listing of participating locations as well as dates and details
for your state, go to this website, Sales Taxinstitute dot com.
When it talks about sales tax and there's any way
you can save yourself some sales tax, make it happen.
It's all good. Next up, and this is the biggest
thing back to school clothes. Average cost of back to
(04:28):
school clothes an average per household seven hundred bucks per household.
Holy smokes, you want to cut that down a lot,
two big ways. You know what I'm about to say,
And this is what we do in our own house.
Hit your local crikes list listings, and I'm talking about wonderful,
fantastic parents who are far more organized than I am,
(04:50):
putting their kids designer clothes, barely touched clothes, perfectly kept clothes,
designer shoes, designer handbags, designer suits, designer g means, designers
sweaters and T shirts. You get the point up on
Craigslist in beautifully well kept, folded, put together bags, and
they're just trying to get rid of them so they
can go out and buy their next crop of all
(05:12):
the designer stuff. God bless them, and they're getting rid
of it. I know this from years of experience for
easily ninety percent off. Now you know the rules. Get
yourself onto Craigslist, find the stuff you're looking for, connect
with the person, and, as with any other Craigslist transaction,
find a mutually convenient spot, tell them you're paying in cash,
(05:34):
and have them meet you there preferably placed with a
bunch of cameras. Guys, I have done dozens upon dozens
of Qraigslist transactions, never a mishap, never a problem, never
a feeling in the back of mind like oh no,
I do this, Always have a fantastic, wonderful, hugely money
saving transaction. I highly recommend it. You'll try it once.
You'll never go back to paying retail for back to
(05:56):
school clothes again. So for the kids and the grandkids
hitting public school, there's nothing like hitting your local Goodwill
as well. I have been there, you know. I go
there at least once a week, and they've got everything
laid out. They've got the gorgeous shoes and the clothes,
the pants, the sweaters, the t shirts, everything your kid
needs to feel comfortable and fun and fashionable in school,
and your wallet will not be screaming in agony. Now
(06:19):
when it comes to I'm finding this an interesting and
I like this trend for uniforms. A lot of public
schools out there are working more of a uniform look,
and I really like that it's getting more popular. So
if your kid or your grandkids are doing that for
their schools, or they're just hitting a flat out private
(06:40):
or parochial school this fall, and you need some uniforms, Yes,
you could pay full price, but I always want to
just throw up at the price of private school clothes,
especially when they say everything's made in the USA, which
is great, but you find out later that it's made
in some obscure USA You can call it a USA location,
but it's not. And they's still, you know, charging full price.
(07:01):
If you need some uniforms, what I would highly recommend
because your kids are growing just as fast as somebody
else's kids out there. Put out the word, just put
out the word. I did. Enter stage left a great
fellow school mom who I've known for, oh my god,
easily eight years now, both of her sons. She had
(07:25):
truckloads that she wanted to clear out of her closets,
and I'm talking everything. I got shirts and pants and
shoes and sweaters, hoodies, everything. And I did a quick count,
because you know, I live for this stuff easily about oh,
I'd say, about eight hundred dollars worth of clothes between
the pants, the shoes, the everything else. And she could
(07:47):
not wait to get rid of it. I could not
wait to get my hands on it. So everyone's a
winter now if you're in that same kind of situation.
Don't be a jerk and take it all and offer
nothing in return. She kept, you know, phrasy, Oh you're
doing me this huge favor. Get all these clothes off
my hands. She did not want a penny for it.
I adored this lady, She's such a darling, and instead
(08:09):
I sent her a gift card to a local gas
station coffee shop. We've all got those around us. For
one hundred bucks. She got rid of all this stuff
she wanted to get rid of. I got easily easily
eight hundred dollars worth of gorgeouschool uniforms, well worn as
any young man. Her boys. They wore them. They got
warn just as if my boy wore them, he'd get
(08:31):
them worn up too. So I'm wearing already nicely warning clothes,
perfectly fashionable. The colors are still vibrant, They're in fantastic shape.
I got about eight hundred dollars worth of uniforms for
one hundred bucks. Everyone's a winter. That's what I'm talking about.
That's the kind of things you want to do. We
got a minute left. Here's what we want to do.
I want to hear from you guys as to what
you are doing to clothe your kids and grandkids that
(08:53):
you might have switched off from last year. You know,
maybe last year this worked, that didn't. You're trying this,
not trying that. I'm finding that garage sales are really
falling out of favor. And I have really never bought
a huge amount of garage sale clothes. Not for school anyways,
summertime clothes, fun stuff for the house, furniture, everything else.
But when it comes to the month of August, I
(09:14):
want to get this in before the break. The huge
thing you want to do in August. I did not
know this. Great deals this month closer than you think.
The second Saturday in August is National Garage Sale Day.
I did not know this, all right. I love going
around in August doing a couple of road trips, going
into town coming back. I never knew that there was
a National Garage Sale Day. I'm embarrassed to say that
(09:36):
I never hit my radar the second Saturday in August.
Huge numbers of bargain hunters will be looking to sell
or buy during this annual end of summer event. So
if you're more organized than I am, think seriously about
getting all the stuff you want to get rid of.
Think about all the stuff you want to get rid of.
Maybe it's just stuff in a garage, Maybe it's stuff
(09:58):
in your basement. Maybe you've got just drawers upon drawers
or closets upon closets of clothes that just don't fit
your kids anymore. You haven't gotten them together to send
to the good will anything else, and you're thinking, you
know what, the end of August might be nice to
count up some cash where all of this cluttery stuff
used to be and do it that way. So think, seriously,
(10:19):
no matter what, August tenth can be a really cool
day for you. If you're like me, you're gonna go
out and scout out some great garage sales. And I
highly recommend that because there's nothing like it. It's old school.
Craigslist is fabulous, eBay's fabulous, Goodwill is fabulous. But you
know what's really good in old school garage sales. You
gotta love it, and people put on their a games,
(10:39):
put it on your calendar. Think about boosting a garage sale,
making some serious cash, but definitely think about shocking those
garage sales. Guys. Time is blind more right after this.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
But not too steep, the best of them all.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Excuse me, and we are back with the Kristen Agopian Show,
and I've been looking so forward to this next interview.
I want you guys to take a look at this website,
young living dot com. So many of my friends from
all over the country are interested in this, and no wonder,
(11:18):
because what began is a movement, so to speak. Essential
oils is now rightfully a billion dollar industry, with some
projecting your twelve billion with a B in annual sales
in the next three years alone. And it's really, honestly
no wonder. We're all in this together. We all try
to lean into more what's the word, more natural ways
(11:38):
to combat LIFs, stresses and ailments and our healthcare regimen
in adding more natural products for taking care of ourselves
and the ones we love. This company is skyrocketing and
there's nowhere to go about up. Who better to join
us than younglivings dot com. Go to this website young
living dot com. Their COO Jared Turner joining us our
(12:00):
newsmaker line to share how this industry is absolutely changing
the market landscape. Jared, welcome, thank you, it's great to
be here. It's good to have you here. Your company
has been at this for twenty five years, so you
have no doubt seen a lot of changes and innovations
in this space. Some people have heard about this and
(12:21):
some people haven't. Honestly, share with our listeners if you would,
why the essential oil industry is causing such excitement these days.
What's the hubbub?
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Yes, we believe essential oils are the next frontier in
optimizing the wellness of human beings and the physical, mental,
emotional levels, even spiritual. It connects people back to the Earth.
They are one hundred percent based on what's going on farms,
so they're from plants and young living prides itself and
being really the pioneering company twenty five years ago, started
(12:52):
by a farmer from Idaho that really wanted to help
heep people out in these modality is And we've created
a robust product line with two hundred and twenty different
botanicals that we distill into essential oils and also essential
oil infused products so that people can incorporate these products
into their lifestyle.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
That's fantastic. Now, I know a lot of people, a
lot of people that are working in this essential oil
space these days and they're getting rave reviews. Talk to
me if you would, about some of the innovation, some
of the new developments you are seeing in this industry.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
We never want to change our core offering of essential oils.
We believe that it's basic, is Mother Nature's best. But
what we are doing is infusing more and more products
with essential oils. We're working more with the amazing power
of terpenes, which is a chemical constituent contained in the
essential oils that really has these benefits for human beings
(13:51):
that people rave about with the oils. And at our
convention this year, we're launching a CBD product that is
infused with essential oils. It's an a CBD isolate extracted
from him that we then add essential oils too. And
we believe that full spectrum, which we call smart spectrum,
unleashes the power of these terpenes and CBD in a
(14:12):
symbiotic way that's very powerful, and so were the biggest
innovation we're working on now is really the power of
this symbiosis between CBD and es central oils. It's very
very exciting for us.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
That is exciting, and clearly you're being very modest, but
clearly your products are hitting the mark even with today's
persnickety let us call them consumers out there. Your company
had more than one point five billion in sales, and
that says something to people. Honestly, what do you attribute
that to and what's the plan going forward with these
(14:43):
amazing numbers?
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Exactly, we're very, very proud of that, and actually we
hit nearly two billion last year.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
What we see behind those numbers are the millions of people,
the millions of moms and dads and children and others
who have wrecked recognize the power of plant based modalities
to optimize their health and wellness. People who want an
organic lifestyle, plant based lifestyle, who want to understand and
trust the transparency of where their products come from, which
(15:12):
we support and have always been a part of with
our farming processes, and we believe these people, once they
identify our company, they align their own personal wives with
who we are, and from there they share it with
the world and it just explodes. We have almost six
million members around the world, and it's really these members
who use the products, who share the products, and have
(15:34):
really led us to grow to these heights we think
we hit. Essential oils came at a perfect time when
people were looking for these organic modalities to live their
lives by. People were looking for the transparency in the
production process, and we believe our story as the pioneers
in this space, it really resonates with people. So I
think those are the top three main reasons in the
(15:54):
future we believe is very, very bright. We are growing
in double digits around the world. Were and more people
joining us, between thirty and eighty thousand people every month
who are becoming customers of the company who want these products.
So we're bringing more and more farms online to support
the demand. All of our events are based around the farm,
so people come out to the farms that plant the lavendor,
(16:15):
the harvest it, they distill it, and they take those
bottles of lavendor home to their family with a certainty
of where it came from. And that is that power
of transparency and empowerment is really what we believe is
driving this moving forward, and we will be a fortune
five hundred company within ten years. We will be the
biggest network marketing company. We built an amazing executive team
(16:37):
to partner with our field members, and we really believe
the future of human optimization of health lies with essential oils.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Good for you now. We have about two hundred stations
coast to coast, and we talk a lot about small
business ownership. We talk about ways that we can expand
our business expertise and maybe grow into a new opportunity.
You're going to have a lot of people who are
listening to you right now who are going to be
very interested in this opportunity and in your company. I
wanted to make sure we touched on this. You have
(17:06):
what you call the five y five pledge. Explain what
the five y five pledge is and why it is
so important in your company.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Perfect. Thank you, and we would welcome more people that
join our tribe, our five x five. After our our
founder Gary passed away, Cowboy and Farmer we all loved
who started this, we got together as an executive team
and said, what can we put together that will reallycapsulate
the power of this man's spirit, his innovation and the
(17:34):
pioneering ways in which you approach this industry. And so
we put together the five by five, which is our
five year business plan, and what we commit to is
in five years to be zero waste as a company
and to do other green initiatives. Our building based on
Lehigh Utah is Green Globe and lead certified, which is
the only building in the Western US and has double
green certification. So we really believe in putting the power
(17:55):
with the green movement and zero waste. Number two is
build out five new corporate and partner farms a year
to keep up with the demand and to connect people
with the earth. The third is to expand into five
new markets per year for five years, so we'll ultimately
be in fifty countries, so more and more people can
use oils and have them in their home. The fourth
is to have five times the impact on our de
(18:16):
Gary Young Young Living Foundation. Right now, we support two
hundred and fifty thousand children in Uganda and Cambodia, in
the United States and Equador in other places. We want
to increase that by five times, so in five years,
one point two million children will be positively impacted by
our foundation. And last, but not least, we'd like to
get our oils into five million additional new homes. So
the five x five is our pledge to our membership
(18:38):
that we will accomplish these things in the next five years.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
That's unbelievable. I love that. Now, how can people we've
got about a minute left here. How can people start
to explore a little bit more about essential oils see
if it's the right thing for them. How can people
start to explore more about this.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I would start at young living dot com. We have
a lot of resources on essential oils. It's a great
starting point. You can get a lot of help with
resources online. But really, sitting down if you're on mom
or a micro entrepreneur with someone who is also mom,
we're a micro entrepreneur and saying what do you use
when do you use it, how do you use it?
You'll get the best education and training you can get,
and you'll build a lifelong friendship with that person because
they would have introduced you to something really life cheap.
(19:14):
That's what we would recommend.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
I love that. And with one point five billion in
sales in twenty seventeen up past two billion in the
last year, you know you've got nowhere to go but up,
all of your hard works paying off. It is very
impressive in today's market to see this kind of skyrocketing growth.
Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. And guys out there,
if you're looking for some new business opportunity, this could
be just the thing. Take a look at this website
young living dot com. Go to it, learn more, and again,
(19:39):
if you're looking for an incredible opportunity with what sounds
like some of the best business minds running the show,
get some thought of joining the rank. Jared, you've got
an open mic anytime. Thank you so much for joining us.
I knew the time is gonna fly.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Thank you. It's been a pleasure.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
You bet. We'll be right back gang right after this.
And we are back with the Kristen A. Gopian Show.
And I've been looking so forward to our next guest
because this is subject matter that affects so many of
(20:14):
us out there. And I'm talking about ADHD. It's a
condition affecting you're ready for these numbers, guys, approximately six
million children and adolescents in the US alone, Okay, and
for children and adolescents with ADHD who already have trouble
focusing maybe or sitting still the school day. And yes,
(20:35):
we are talking upcoming school. We're in the midst of summer,
but it's never too early to talk. It can be
a daily hurdle, you know, between the morning routine and
the all day classes and the evening homework. It's a
special problem for these beautiful kids that are also dealing
with ADHD and for them, you know, getting ready for
back to school during the summer months is really crucial
(20:57):
because it can really help ease the transition in ways
you never thought possible. And who better to join us
via our Newsmaker line than doctor James Anderson here to
share some really effective strategies that families of loved ones
with ADHD maybe yours as well, can use to get
a head start so that things can go a lot
(21:17):
more smoothly when school begins. For your benefit and for theirs,
doctor Anderson, welcome, Thank.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
You very much for having me. I really appreciate being here.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Well, it's our pleasure. And first of all, in and
amongst the many questions that we want to throw your way,
a lot of us are aware of the phrase ADHD.
It's so much more prevalent these days. But talk to
me a bit break down the numbers for us just
how prevalent is ADHD among children and adolescents these days.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Like you mentioned at the beginning, six million children adolescents
in the United States to have ADHD, and what we
see is that that makes about eight to ten percent
of the population and the other thing that's important to
know is that about ninety percent of those patients well
can tenue to have symptoms on into adulthood. So ADHD
really is is seen now as a chronic and persistent situation,
(22:07):
not necessarily something that we grow out of.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Absolutely, and it's so true. And if you would, because
you already started, but I'm going to have you dig
a little deeper. Talk to me a bit about how
ADHD can impact children and adolescents. I call them all
kids during the school year. What are you seeing out there?
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Absolutely, And one thing to think about too is the
presentation in the males versus females can be very different.
The boys we tend to have more impulsivity, more oppositional
defiance as far as our behaviors, and tend to be
more outward in our symptoms, where the young ladies oftentimes
will have issues where there may be more inattentive, They
may internalize a lot of the ADEC symptoms and present
(22:45):
more with anxiety or even kind of a reactive depression,
and either impulsivity may be more verbal or cognitive impulsivity
as opposed to sitting still. So it's really important based
upon male female as well as when we're younger, we
have more physical impulsivity. As we get older, it's more
of the inn intentive aspects. So looking at that from
all those areas, and it doesn't mean that you have
academic issues, right, So this can happen in folks who
(23:07):
are thriving and doing well, and sometimes that makes ADHD
harder to diagnose because those who are academically smart when
we have that inattentive component. So that's one of the
main issues. In attention, which causes an attention for focusing
and distractability. It's hard for us to focus and pay
attention to things that are not interesting or monotonous or
boring or mundane or something we've already figured out, and
so it's much easier for us to get distracted and
(23:29):
start to think about other things. That causes us to
procrastinate and wait to the last minute to do a
lot of the work. And what ends up happening is
that our grades are not quite as good as they
could be just due to the inattention and the distractability component.
Also we run into the hyperactivity and pulsivity. So can
I sit still in class through the whole class day,
through the whole class period, let alone standardized testing. Am
(23:53):
I interrupting other students? Am I interrupting the teacher with
what I'm saying or doing? Is it not only disrupting
my ability to learn and partarticipate in class? But how
is that affecting also the other kids in the room,
let alone of the teachers at school, So that in attention,
high grativity impulsivity affects the school they Then we roll
into the after school issues, whether it's an after school
program for the younger kids or maybe it's the older
(24:15):
kids playing sports, art, music, dance. Am I able to
enjoy my activity or am I being kind of disrupted
there too and impeding my ability to learn it as
well as the others. Once we get home, do I
been able to sit and focus and do my homework
and have thirty minutes of homework take me thirty minutes
not two hours? What effect does that I have on
my family relationships, my relationships with my siblings. So it
(24:36):
really affects all aspects of our life throughout the school year,
not just just the academic day itself.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
That is fascinating. And I'm writing down notes frantically in
the margin of my notes right here because you're seeing
so many important things here and one thing kind of
keeps circling back that I'd love for you to touch
on when you're talking about getting ready. You know, what
are some of the biggest strategies and tips that you
would think for kind of transitioning if you would, from
(25:03):
the more relaxed summer schedule to the more structured school routine.
What are your go to moves to make sure it's
a great for parents and kids alike.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Absolutely all my mantra is back to school starts the
day after school ends. The reason for that is that's
really important in the summer to a reassess how are
when we're looking at medication management, How did our last
medication work? How well did it do? Did it give
us a duration that we're looking for for our age
and stage of life? Did it meet the treatment goal?
(25:33):
So we'd set up earlier with my primary care doctor,
my ADHD specialist, is there certain treatment gaps that we
would like to address or certain adverse events that we
might like to avoid or to try to minimize. So,
for example, if we're trying, we might one to decide, hey,
let me try new deliver newer delivery system such as
a staris, which is a CNS student medication. This FDA
(25:54):
approved for ADHD ages six and above. Above. This designed
to have an early onset when we take it in
the morning, lasts throughout the course of the day for
our ADAC symptom control and gradually weaned wears off with
a very gentle offset in the evening times. So I'm
able to manage my symptoms throughout the course of the
day with only one medication. I don't have to do
(26:14):
multiple medications. So with something like a staris be a
benefit to the patient in the summer or a different
ADAHD medication based upon their needs. Also, it gives us
number two a time to look at safety again. All
stimul medications, including the Stars, have that black box warning
for abuse, misuse, and addiction, so it's important to make
sure we're monitored for that not only at the beginning
but all throughout, and also looking at potential adverse events
(26:37):
such as cardiovascular events, development of motor ticks, how is
our growth doing, and wait and height for our children,
and making sure we're not unmasking any underlying psychiatric symptoms
of maybe something we didn't know was present. So it's
really important for those because we want to make sure
we're getting that risk and we're getting the benefit and
mitigating and paying attention to any potential risks. Also, I'd
(26:57):
like to step back and say, are there certain things
that we're worried about at the end of school year?
Writing issues, reading issues, dyslexia, dysgraphia. Do we need to
be tested for that in the summer. Do we need
to set that up for testing once the school year begins.
What about our learning? Was there any concerns about learning
difficulty or learning disability? If that's the case, maybe we
need to test over the summer again, get that set
up once the school year starts. Looking at our five
(27:18):
to ZO four plan, academic environmental accommodations. What accommodations do
we have the previous year that worked? What are maybe
some nu onces we're moving in through the education process
do we need to add or look at or reassess
as we go into the next academic year. Plus, and
this's the schedule stuff, my sleep and wake cycle, and
more importantly, my monitor time. I'm much more relaxed in
my monitor time in the summer that I am necessarily
(27:41):
during the more tight during the school year. So can
I get that, and I start three or four weeks
before school starts with that to make sure I'm kind
of getting into my normal routine as far as modern
time and management of that before than the school year starts.
So that's usually a big area of drastic pushback.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
It's so true, And again I knew the time would
be flying. I wish i'd hour with you. We've only
got a few minutes left, but I wanted to make
sure we touch base on this too, because you know,
outside academia, which is such an important part of these
kids' lives, there's also the social interactions and friendships involved
as well. Talk to me a bit about the impact
(28:17):
that ADHD can have on those, and you know, what
are the ways that you would recommend the strategies to
foster these positive peer relationships at school.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Absolutely, that's one of the reasons I take that I
don't take medication breaks in the summer. I take it
on weekends, solars of vacations. I might have a different dose,
but that's used term situational awareness. My paying attention was
going on around me reading the room. So I'm hanging
out with my friends and my following the conversation when
I'm playing a sport, my looking at next steps versus
being afraid of making mistakes. So that really helps me
to gain that confidence that I can have those interactions.
(28:48):
Plus if I'm concerned, I'm working with a therapist or
a counselor or even hearing from our parents different ideas
and things we can do. We can actually retain those
utilize those those techniques and apply them. And again once
we gain SUCCESSSS beget success. So we get those confidences realized, Hey,
I can do this. It's not you know, the ADHD
doesn't let me down. It's actually a superpower because I
can get a lot of things done, but I just
(29:08):
need to know how to manage those distractions and read
the room. So it's medication management, therapy and counseling, support
from the parents with lots of encouragement, and I use
parent websites that folks can go to or at stars
dot com has a good section analogies about the medication,
but about life with ADHD and chadhadd dot org which
has been around longer than I have, and it's a
(29:29):
good resource for both patients and parents with ADHD that
where one can they have communication forums and great ideas
and options that folks can do and try to help
with the behavioral aspect of ADHD outside of the academics.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Fantastic stuff, and I again I knew the time would fly.
Thank you so much for all this fantastic, helpful, reassuring information,
Doctor James Anderson. You have got an open mic anytime.
Please enjoy the remainder of your summer and know you've
got an open mic anytime. Please join us again, and
you can thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
I certainly will asked if.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Looking forward to it, and we'll be right back in
right after.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
This cheap is small and not too steep, the best
of all cheap circumstance. Close my hands to be a
comfi person, Sign up fast. I just gotta learns to recall.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
I'm that sheep.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
You'll understand. I'm just a cut rist person.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
And we are back with the Kristin m. Gophian Show
with what to buy in August and what to hold
off on purchasing if you possibly can now. Earlier we
were talking about the obvious August stuff. We're talking about
if you have kids or grandkids in your household back
to school huge stuff, huge sales. Go get them things
that you may not be thinking about. However, Amazon devices,
(31:14):
all right, skip the Amazon devices this time of year,
all right. Based on past sales, it's likely we won't
see Amazon device discounts close to their current levels until say,
Black Friday in November. And if November is going to
fly up on us any you know, as fast as
the past couple of months have flown by, it'll be
(31:35):
here before you know it. So I know people out
there who just love to shop for their Amazon stuff.
I get it, I dig it. Some people are addicts,
some people are not. Most are in between. If you
can hold off on it, Amazon devices, whether it's for friends, family, yourself, birthdays, holidays, whatever,
Black Friday November is your best time for that, all right,
So hold off until then if you can, and I
(31:55):
think you can. One thing that you should definitely be
shopping for. I love this your outdoor products. What do
I mean? Here's what I mean. Summer is not gone yet,
but it is on the tail end, right, it's coming
up to a close. You probably aren't planning on doing
much work in the backyard, God knows, I'm not. We're
pretty low key. It's just mow and be done with it,
(32:17):
and that's why, exactly why outdoor maintenance products will reach
low price levels in August. So buy those items now.
I mean things like a new lawnmower. That's the kind
of thing that's going to go on to a huge
sale in the next few weeks. If you have any
kind of outdoor projects that you do on a regular
basis and you need some solid prep for them, the equipment,
(32:40):
the lawnmowers, maybe the rakes, maybe everything else. Hold off
on Amazon devices, but buy the outdoor products. Another thing
to skip, and this one kind of surprised me. Skip
the major household items things like appliances. Skip buying those.
If you can, skip, buy mattresses if you can, at
(33:02):
least until the last day or two of August. Here's why,
because Labor Day and accompanying sales just like the Labor
Day sales right around the corner. It's just a few
weeks away. So if it isn't essential for you to
make a major purchase in August, hold off and be
hugely rewarded when the big discount events arrive in September.
(33:25):
Now this year the holiday Labor Day, okay, so sales
may begin at the tail end of August. You know,
Black Friday is probably gonna be Monday of this year.
Tongue in cheeks, she said. But when it comes to
the Labor Day sales, chances are excellent sales on those
major household items are going to be starting the tail
end of August. All right, Labor Day is renowned, and
(33:48):
I've seen this firsthand. You probably have to. Labor Day's
renowned for mattress sales, appliance sales, home decord deals. Okay,
here's where I want you to take it to the
next level. I want you not only if you need
to buy these things. And here's the next thing. If
you don't need appliances. If your appliances are working great,
I don't care if they're avocado. I don't care if
(34:10):
they give you an instant flashback of the entire cast
and crew of that seventy show. Don't buy it if
you don't need it, And if you don't need it,
don't go shopping for it. Don't even be tempted to
do it. Oh but the sales are so great? Are
they more than zero? Because you're currently paying zero for
your current appliance, And if your current appliance or your
mattress or something else works just great. Go for it.
(34:32):
Keep the one you've got, all right. If you need
new ones, go to these appliance sales, but take it
up a notch brilliant frugal living style and go to
the already discount mattress place for it. Don't go to
the high end mattress place. Go to the discount mattress
place during these discounted days of August coming up and
enjoy something. Then too, another great place around us. We've
(34:55):
got a great they call it scratch and Dent. I
have yet to see a scratch or a dent on
any of them. Go to the scratch and dent appliance
stores where the scratch basically only appears in the packing box.
Where the dent might if it even has one, is
on the back of the appliance, and you're never going
to see it. The prices there are already fantastic. Go
(35:16):
there during these discount days of August coming up, and
you're gonna find the deals to be amazing. So if
you really do need these items, go then have some fun.
So labor Day's renowned for its mattress appliance home decor,
all that stuff and you know, I go to Goodwill
and Habitat for Humanity home store for my big home
to Core deals. Now. A couple of years ago, Low's
(35:38):
it was brought to my attention, took up to thirty
percent off its major appliances, and a place called Bear Mattress.
I'm not familiar with this bear like a bear in
the woods. Bear Mattress offered one hundred dollars off any
size mattress online with a coupon code. And here's the
best one price cuts, all right, And I gotta go
on to this website Wayfair free ad for Wayfair price
(36:00):
cuts reached up to seventy percent off at Wayfair not
too long ago on these same items. So that's the
kind of thing you can do now again, my go
to move. You go to your discount mattress place already discounted.
Go there during these discount days coming up in August.
For the appliances. Go to your already scratch in dent
beautiful gorgeous, brand new appliances that are already deeply discounted,
(36:23):
and hit them during the deeply discounted days of August.
It it gives you this yummy feeling all over you guys,
a lot of people out there like to pay retail.
Just you know, nod your head. Okay, that's great, buy
your retail stuff, keep your money in the bank. That's
what I'm talking about. We got a couple more minutes
left here. I got to hit these summer clearance As
(36:45):
the fall and autumn months come closer, and my upper
arms get ever happier because they're just not as toned
as they should be for summertimes. Tank tops and such,
it makes sense you want to add some sweaters and
some sweatshirts to your wardrobe. Think goodgain before you swipe
your card, because prices at the start of any given season,
like right now, are going to be substantially higher. Now.
(37:07):
On the flip side, now's a perfect time to purchase
summer clothing, summer shoes, summer swimwear. And if again you're
anything like me and the dieting goals just went nowhere,
do yourself a favor. Get out there and buy the
summer stuff you might need for next year, and feel
free to you know, think to yourself, I'm gonna go
on this crash diet. I'm not even crash died. I'm
(37:27):
gonna eat healthier I'm gonna lose some weight before next summer.
I shouldn't even buy anything now because I'm going to
be how many size is smaller next summer. Or maybe
that's just what I tell myself. Maybe you guys don't
do the same thing. But regardless of what your plans
are for your waistline next summer, check the deals and
the summer sales coming up right now, because you're gonna
find some huge deals on the summer shoes, the summer wardrobes,
(37:51):
even you know, the beach towels, the summer everything going
on a huge sale. I'm seeing it already and it's
just August. So if you need to refresh that part
of your inventory, make it happen. Retailers are desperately trying
to clear out the old inventory to make room for
all of the false stuff coming up. It's all good
so and basically, now you know how I usually do
(38:12):
this when it comes to swimsuits and other things like that.
I always buy brand new for my kids and for myself.
So buy all that stuff brand new. It's on that
short list of brand new that you should buy that
I have. Everything else I usually buy used or ready
to go or secondhand swimsuits, summertime stuff. Buy it firsthand
because T shirts always go so fast they get really
(38:33):
worn out. You're not going to find them mid Goodwill
all that often, not even that much on chriike'slist. So
buy all that stuff now. While they're trying to clear
it off the shelves, they're just giving it away. It's
all good, guys. The time is flown and just as
summer has and until next week, save those pennies, pay
with cash, and you all stay frugal out there, not
(38:56):
too the best of the all
