(00:47):
of the Michigan Sports Truth Podcast. I'm the creator and
your host in Michigan Sports Truth. Detective Taylor Phillips says,
I just said in this episode, in this ever episode,
you'll hear nothing but the entire but the entire truth.
No tom foolery, no coddling, no entertainment, no bull no junk,

(01:09):
no nothing. The truth consists of research, statistics, and fair
and accurate criticism about the Tigers Lions, Red Wings, Pistons, Wolverines,
and Spartans. The question is can you handle the truth?
Our disclaimer reads if you can't handle any news, stats, research,
or criticism regarding any of our teams, then stay completely

(01:31):
away from the show and it's comment section at all times.
If you're too arrogant to learn anything, and especially decide
to be a homer like complaining about officiating a party,
favorite clown and a tool, you're absolutely irrelevant to this podcast.
So we got, well, well we're gonna I'm gonna preview

(01:56):
Michigan at Michigan State all so we got we got
some red Wings to talk about, a little bit of
Pistons as well. They opened their season in Chicago with
a with a one to fifteen to one to eleven
loss to the Chicago Bulls and some positive news on

(02:21):
the Lions side of things. I haven't come up with
a segment name for the Lions yet, but I'm still
thinking about it. But for now, oh my goodness, yeah,

(02:43):
let's do Let's get to this right now. The Michigan Wolverines,
they jumped up back up to into the ap Pool
top twenty five at number twenty five, and they go
to East Lansing for the Inn State rivalry game and
against the Michigan States Spartans. The Wolverrings are fourteen and
a half point favorites, but have scored twenty seven at

(03:05):
a quarter points per game in their last four games,
but their defensive unit has only allowed ten points per
game in their last three games, just ten points allowed
per game. They're coming off a twenty four to seven
win over the Wisconsin Badgers in A and arbor last week.

(03:31):
For the Spartans, they're on a four game losing streak
after starting three and oh they're three and four. Wolver
Rings are five and two. The Spartans have allowed thirty
seven out a six points per game in their last
seven games. I want to share the screen for you

(03:54):
to show you guys some info here. Oh boy, yes,
of course. The matchup predictor is just way unanimous eighty

(04:15):
seven point eight percent in favor of Michigan. The fourteen
and a half point five spread thirteen and a half
point thirteen and a half point favorite to open total
over under his forty seven and a half. The money
line is is minus six hundred and fifty for Michigan

(04:37):
and plus four hundred twenty five for the Michigan State spartans.
Just trying to gather everything here. Since there, since Michigan's

(05:00):
lost to USC, the Wolverines have allowed just ten over
was yeah, twenty four to seven went over Washington. My mistake, Uh,
twenty four to ten over Wisconsin. Oh man, I so

(05:33):
yeah that in their last two games, to their last
two home games, they've allowed just like eight point five
points per game, both against Big ten teams. But but

(05:53):
that this thirty one to thirteen loss at USC is
just not except they bounce back but with a twenty
four to win twenty four to seven went over Washington. Sorry,
I got that's that's script. All that part of the
script all wrong. My apologies for the misinformation, but I'm human.

(06:19):
We make mistakes. But anyway, the Wolverines are five and two,
but on the road though, they're one and two on

(06:43):
the road and one and one against the Big ten
on the road. But Michigan State has been horrible in
their last four games, losing forty five to thirty one
at us SEE, thirty thirty eight to twenty seven at Nebraska,

(07:04):
thirty eight to thirteen at home against UCLA, and thirteen
thirty eight to thirteen again at number three Indiana. Yeah,
the Hoosiers are number We're at number three. They're up
to number two now they host UC three and four UCLA.
The Hoosiers shed no problem crushing those Bruins. But I digress.

(07:30):
I still think Michigan will be in Michigan state. They
just Michigan just has to figure out their offensive flaws

(07:51):
or or whatever they are. In their last three games,
the wolverineans have averaged twenty and a third points per game.
The Wolverringes offensive unit has averaged just twenty and a

(08:13):
third points per game in their last three games. But
this is a golden opportunity for the Wolverines to work
work on correcting their mistakes, just as Haynes might return

(08:39):
for the game in East Lanting on Saturday night seven
thirty on NBC and Peacock is the kickoff and telecast.
Of course, Bryce Underwood versus Aying Childs the quarterback matchup.

(09:03):
Passing yards look pretty look very close to even under
what one thousand, four hundred and forty passing yards to
Chiles's one two hundred and sixty two. Uh. Justice Haynes
simply out matches Justice Haynes for Michigan simply outmatches Mackay

(09:30):
Frasier for MSU seven hundred and five to three hundred
eighty four in rushing yards. And then you got Donovan
mccaully and Omary Kelly. Mccaullay for Michigan three hundred and
sixty nine receiving yards, Omary Kelly four hundred and six

(09:52):
receiving yards. So look for him, look for both of
them to shine in the receiving corps. Derek Moore four
and a half sacks, Malik Spencer just two sacks for MSU,
Derek Moore for Michigan. But I think Michigan will win

(10:22):
by like, let's make it fair twenty one points, let's
say thirty one to ten. Yeah, let's go with that.
So with that being said, Michigan at Michigan State Saturday
at seven thirty on NBC Slash Peacock. Now, as the

(10:46):
wing wheel turns, the Red Wings lose four to two
at the buff to the Buffalo Savers at Key Bank Arena,
and to the New York Islanders seven to two at
Ubs Arena. Manucifer just happened here after winning five straight.

(11:17):
Just man oh Man just going back to undisciplined hockey.
And of course Patrick Kane is injured. That's not the
ex but that's that can't be used too much as

(11:39):
an excuse. And Todd McClellan, I know, it's a good coach,
a good fiery coach, but he's not shuffling their line.
He's not shuffling his lines, his his offensive lines, his
forward lines. Larkin's still with Emmit, Finnie, Lucas Raymond and Luca.

(12:04):
Alex Dabrinka got switched around in between the Buffalo and
New York New York Golanders game New York Islanders game. Mh.
I just feel like McClellan. McClellan didn't change, didn't change
or shuffle much of the Red Wings forward lines in

(12:26):
between those two games and never adjusted much. Plus, their
defensive pairing keeps on being lazy. Axel Sandine Pelica's got
to play better defense, so as the rest of the

(12:47):
the rest of the team. Sharront got hurt but returned
to the game. He's he's been doing well. He's been
doing all he could. Yeah, Dylan, Larkin and em and
Finny do keep getting goals and assists. Just if emant

(13:10):
If Finny, we were good, he would he would be
on a different line than then he and Dylan Larkin
would be on different lines. You gotta shuffle him up,
and that's and that's what you gotta do with if

(13:31):
you're Tom McClellan. Of course, then they got the Homan
Road Double Hunter against the Saint Louis Blue Saturday, Get
seven A Little Seasons Arena and eight and Tuesday, October
Tuesday at eight fifteen on it at Both Both games
are on on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit, before the Red

(13:53):
Wings head out west for four games against the Kings, Ducks, Sharks,
and Golden Knights and then heading back home to play
the New York Rangers on November seventh at seven o'clock
on Vando's Sports Network Detroit Extra. So that's as the

(14:17):
Wing wheel turns. Except for the Devil's Advocates segment. The
right penalty calls were made in Buffalo and log Island.
The Red Wings played undisciplined hockey and both their two
road games in the state of New York now the
Pistons post. The Pistons open their season with a one

(14:40):
to fifteen to one to eleven lost to the Chicago
Bulls at United Center. They got outscored thirty five to
nineteen in the first quarter, second and third quarters were
absolutely dangerously close to being even, and then the Pistons
outscored the Bulls thirty two to twenty one to come
back but fall short. They never even had the lead

(15:04):
as far as I'm concerned. And when you fall behind
like that in the first quarter, you're not You're definitely not.
You're most likely not going to win. That's what you
That's why you have to play forty eight minutes, not

(15:25):
thirty six. I mean, okay, there we go. I was

(16:05):
looking for the schedule for Wednesday. Schedule Pistons. There we
go box Pistons, Bulls box score. Mm hmmm, uh yeah,
eight for twenty four for Kid Cunningham twenty three points,
ten assists. But he keeps failing in critical and crunch

(16:33):
time situation slash critical situations. Unfortunately. I just don't know
why he's supposed to be the star, the number one
star on this Pistons roster, and he keeps failing to
deliver in the clutch. Except, I mean, he doesn't always fail.

(16:54):
He delivered against the heat in Miami last season. It
was in a regular season game against the heat, but
most but too many, still, too many times Kate has failed.
You also got Isaiah Stewart twenty points, ten rebounds. Jalen

(17:15):
During fifteen points, just six rebounds. Gotta gotta pick up
more rebounds, Jalen, You're better than that. Ron Holland Jr.
Nineteen points. Je n Ivy is injured, but that doesn't
make any make or become any excuse either. Tobias Harris

(17:35):
ten points, Asar Thompson eleven points and nine nine rebounds
hairs with nine bares as well. That's that's been it.
Paul Reid's not stepping up. Just just three points, well three,
only three twenty one of three minutes twenty one seconds
of court time. But the uh, this is like the

(18:05):
workload right here. Thompson, Harris, Durren Robinson, and Cunningham. Karris
Livert just eight points minus seven to assist one rebound
in twenty one minutes and twenty seven seconds. Yeah yeah,

(18:31):
Karris Livert did not produce much, did not facilitate much,
did not rebound much. He's got to step it up.
They need him to step up. Javonte Green nine minutes,
thirty one seconds, one block, one steal, but zero points,

(18:51):
zero rebounds, zero assists. That's it, zero for two from
the court, no three point attempts. They'll Pistons need j
Tate Green to step up more and produce more forgot

(19:14):
to share the screen. Yeah, there we go. Kate Cunningham
twenty three points, ten rebounds, still with twenty and ten boards.
But as you can see, as I mentioned, Javonte Green

(19:39):
just one block and one steal in nine thirty one.
The rest are zeros during fifteen points, just six rebounds.
Asar Thompson eleven points and nine rebounds, Tobias Harris ten points,
nine rebounds. Both got double doubles. But they we expect,

(20:03):
we expect at least a little bit more out of
them each. Duncan Robinson just two points in thirty two
and twenty two oh Man and a minus seven one

(20:25):
for se shot one for seven and from the from
the court and zero for five from three. That is
terrible for Duncan Robinson, the former wolver the former Michigan Wolverine.
You can't play like that, you can't shoot like that,
you can't afford that. You just can't hm. You just

(21:01):
can't play like that. Duncan Robinson has been the biggest
has already been the the Duncan Robinson was the biggest
disappointment for the Pistons in that game, in that loss.

(21:23):
That is that has been the weakest link. Just two
points in thirty two, almost thirty two and dangerously close
to thirty two and a half minutes of court of
court playing time of time on the court, no rebounds,
no assist, no steals, no blocks, one only one turnover.

(21:45):
But that's it. Three personal fouls, two points, two points
and a minus seven. What the hell is that? Oh

(22:07):
my god. Pistons play the Rockets Friday at eight. And
then we got some positive news for the Detroit Lions.
They may get linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez back after their bye week,

(22:28):
which is forthcoming prior to their next game a week
from Sunday at Ford Field against the Minnesota Vikings a
week from Sunday at one on Fox. So when they
get him back, he's going to team up with the

(22:51):
with a with a whole army of beasts in the
in the front defense, in the defensive front seven including
eight and Hutchinson, Elle McNeil, DJ Reader, Tyrus Wheat, Tyler Williams,
Trevor Nwowski, Alexandeloni, Jack Campbell, and Jack Campbell. They're still
missing an injured Marcus Davenport, Josh Pascal and defensive lineman

(23:17):
Levi On Sirique. But this is a This is like
a beast army of a defensive front seven reassembling, resembling.
So the NFL had better get ready again because here

(23:39):
comes back. Here come the Lions defensive front. And oh
don't forget. Even in Kirby Joseph's absence, Nick Whiteside can
can play man coverage and play the ball more than
the body, so look out for him too. Look for

(24:01):
Whiteside to make more pass defenses in the secondary against
the Vikings, and so on and so forth. Man I
am stove for this. So what did we learn? The
Red Wings are coming back down to earth after their
five game winning streak with their losses four to two

(24:21):
to the Buffalo Savers and seven to two in the
New York Islanders both on the road, and the Pistons
still have more to prove after getting scored thirty five
to nineteen in the first quarter in their one fifteen
to one to eleven loss at United Center to the
Chicago Bulls. Also, the Lions their defensive front like I said,

(24:42):
like I just pointed out as resembling and ready to roar.
