the Red Wings they signed forward Mason Appleton to a
five point eight million dollar contract to kick off part
two of the of our twenty twenty five Red Wings

and Pistons off season summer frenzy. It's not just free agency,
it's also a sign in trade involving the Pistons sending
Dennis Shutter to the Sacramento Kings. We'll get to that
later on. But the Red Wings get Ford Mason Appleton.
They signed to a two year, five point eight million
dollar contract. So let's go ahead and get to those

Appleton are a projected war percentage of forty three percent.

He's aged twenty eight, a third liner, a capet of
two point two million dollars plus one times one, so
you can see all his percentages and his grafts, his
war percentile ranking. It's slightly declining from over fifty percent,

slightly over fifty percent, like fifty two percent from the
twenty twenty two to twenty twenty three season to forty
three percent after this previous season with the Winnipeg Jets.

war percent. He's a left wing and center in age

percent eighty one percent, which is a lot, which is
way better than Mason Appleton's. As I compare the two

assists forty one percent, penalties just thirty nine just thirty
nine percent, tile penalties percent of just thirty nine percent,
competition fifty one percent, teammates forty seven percent, finishing forty

three percent. So Elmer Soda Blum did not play in
the twenty twenty three twenty twenty four season at all.
He was in Grand Rapids, so there are no lines there.

did have a war percentile ranking of seventy five percent
of the twenty two to twenty three campaign, but this
past season twenty four to twenty five, his war percentile

rank was just over twenty five percent, just about close
to thirty percent, if not quite on, If not quite there,
I'm saying, I'm thinking like twenty eight twenty nine percent.
But defense, his defense has declined even even well in

the NHL level, from about seventy six seventy seven percent
in the in twenty two to twenty three to about
twenty four percent in twenty four to twenty five, and
then you got the finishing dot right here, about twenty

to twenty one percent this past season twenty four to
twenty five finishing percentile. His defense has decline. Offense, his
offense is and white just about under seventy percent in
twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three, about sixty eight percent

or sixty seven and then it went up about to
seventy seven percent the offense percentile on twenty twenty four
to twenty twenty five. So, with that being said, Elmer
Soda Bloom is actually a decent player overall. He's a

good He's very good in the offensive zone, just not
in his own It's not good, just not good. Not
as good as a not as good on the backcheck.
Good on the fore check, but not not as good
on the backcheck. As you can see these numbers right
these percentile numbers right there. So the Red Wings did

get Meson Appleton, but he's not not as good analytically
as other people may think, other Wing fans may think.
The Red Wings also re signed for the Red Wings.

because they need more goal because they need more offense.

Wings hired Michael Layton as goaltender's coach, replacing Alex Westland.

McKinstry should be an All Star just because of that. Well, well,
first of all, it his case for being an All
Star should be based on his statistics right here two

didn't magically cause it. He was just taking his lead.
Emmanuel Classe throw a terrible pitch and McKinstry just scored

Let's take a look at the division. Oh my goodness,

But the Tigers at the best record in all Major

base six point thirty slugging. That's nine that's a nine
to ninety ops. And last seven games three oh four
three point thirty three on base six oh nine slugging,
So that's uh ninety two of an LPs. So there's

a slight decline there, uh game logs mm hmm, yeah, yeah, mckidstry. Right,

all of his uh now our season he's has he's
had ups and downs, from peaking to over three hundred

bas three thirty eight slugging. But yeah, he's yeah, he
his May. His month of May was was rough. That's
six twenty seven. It's a six twenty seven oak just
to six twenty seven ops for Zach McKinstry in May

just a two hundred banning average flat. That's a decline
right there. That that could that could tell you why
he's not quite an all star material. He's not quite
consistent enough. June three twenty one average or after June

that is a that is an eight ninety one OPS,
which is which is good, not quite great, but at

least good. But here in the month of July three

h nine slugging. So if you total these up, it
would be a nine to two OPS in July thus far.

So we'll see where that goes again. McKinstry just needs
to be a little bit, just needs to be more
consistent month by month with his offense. As of late,

he has not made any dumb base running mistakes as
of late compared to earlier this season, so but that
can tell you why he's uh, not quite making the
All Star Game unless he's unless he becomes a replacement

for an injured player or a player that's absent due
to other matters, whether it's personal or emergency something like that.
It could be anything. So I'm going to take a
sip of my water here and now the what We've
(33:30):
learned segment What do we learn in this episode of
the Michigan Sports Truth Podcast, Mason Appleton analytically, analytically isn't
as good of a free agent signing by the Red Wings.
Like we said, his offense percentile was good, but his

goal percentile just twenty three percent, like I said, has
even strength, defense just forty not good, and even strength,
but his penalty killing you. It could be a bit
of an asset from what I've read on X. But analytically,

his uh uh, his strengths and strengths and weaknesses and flaws,
so that that makes him not as good of assigning
by the Red Wings. And then the Pistons are still
trying to find a good player for Dennis Schroeder and
the player trade exception worth fourteen point three million dollars.

It could still be. It could still be Malik Monk
or somebody would just have to keep our eyes open.
And then Zach McKinstry, with his rough May month of
May at the at the plate just two hundred average
an ops of under seven hundred could be the reason

percent eighty one percent, which is a lot, which is
way better than Mason Appleton's. As I compare the two

assists forty one percent, penalties just thirty nine just thirty
nine percent, tile penalties percent of just thirty nine percent,
competition fifty one percent, teammates forty seven percent, finishing forty

three percent. So Elmer Soda Blum did not play in
the twenty twenty three twenty twenty four season at all.
He was in Grand Rapids, so there are no lines there.

That's why there are no lines there. Elmer Soda Bloom
did have a war percentile ranking of seventy five percent
of the twenty two to twenty three campaign, but this
past season twenty four to twenty five, his war percentile

rank was just over twenty five percent, just about close
to thirty percent, if not quite on, If not quite there,
I'm saying, I'm thinking like twenty eight twenty nine percent.
But defense, his defense has declined even even well in

the NHL level, from about seventy six seventy seven percent
in the in twenty two to twenty three to about
twenty four percent in twenty four to twenty five, and
then you got the finishing dot right here, about twenty

to twenty one percent this past season twenty four to
twenty five finishing percentile. His defense has decline. Offense, his
offense is and white just about under seventy percent in
twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three, about sixty eight percent

or sixty seven and then it went up about to
seventy seven percent the offense percentile on twenty twenty four
to twenty twenty five. So, with that being said, Elmer
Soda Bloom is actually a decent player overall. He's a

good He's very good in the offensive zone, just not
in his own It's not good, just not good. Not
as good as a not as good on the backcheck.
Good on the fore check, but not not as good
on the backcheck. As you can see these numbers right
these percentile numbers right there. So the Red Wings did

get Meson Appleton, but he's not not as good analytically
as other people may think, other Wing fans may think.
The Red Wings also re signed for the Red Wings.
Elmer soderblowm was a good, was a good re signing
because they need more goal because they need more offense.

And then you get the goaltending situation where the Red
Wings hired Michael Layton as goaltender's coach, replacing Alex Westland.
Layton used to play in the NHL at goal keeper
at goaltenders in goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in the past,
and then the Philadelphia Flyers, and then he and he

also held the AHL's all time record for career shutouts
the American Hockey League. M HM, I don't exactly know

his coaching history or whatever he'll be overseeing Detroit's tandem
of John Gibson and Cam Tealot. He's already had a

McKinstry should be an All Star just because of that. Well, well,
first of all, it his case for being an All
Star should be based on his statistics right here two

He didn't. He didn't magically create the wild pitch. He
didn't magically cause it. He was just taking his lead.
Emmanuel Classe throw a terrible pitch and McKinstry just scored
and took advantage that. That's the luck of the draw.

to go nuts on a wild pitch. Man, I was
thrilled to see it too, but it was a luck
of the Drawers got very lucky with that wild pitch.

course the Tigers are gonna definitely take the American League

But the Tigers at the best record in all Major
League Baseball at fifty eight and thirty four. Forget about

in their last ten. Tigers are seven and three in
their last ten. The Tigers have won fourth straight. They

being an All Star. Well, his last thirty games three
sixteen average three forty nine one base five point forty
one slugging. That's clearly a nine hundred flat ops. It's

last fifteen games three forty eight average three sixty on
base six point thirty slugging. That's nine that's a nine
to ninety ops. And last seven games three oh four
three point thirty three on base six oh nine slugging,
So that's uh ninety two of an LPs. So there's

a slight decline there, uh game logs mm hmm, yeah, yeah, mckidstry. Right,

all of his uh now our season he's has he's
had ups and downs, from peaking to over three hundred
almost four hundred three seventy one after April ninth against
the Yankees and then declining down to two fifty as

low as two fifty four April, two fifty four after
April eighteenth, and then three fourteen April twenty back up
to three fourteen and April twenty first three, back to

nine ops total in April. Then you see that McKinstry
is cheating around the two eighty average two seventy something

in May and then lowers back down to two sixty
nine May twenty six and then two two twenty two
sixty six May thirtieth. His total stats are in mayor
two hundred, two hundred banning average two eighty nine on

bas three thirty eight slugging. But yeah, he's yeah, he
his May. His month of May was was rough. That's
six twenty seven. It's a six twenty seven oak just
to six twenty seven ops for Zach McKinstry in May

just a two hundred banning average flat. That's a decline
right there. That that could that could tell you why
he's not quite an all star material. He's not quite
consistent enough. June three twenty one average or after June
(31:28):
three twenty one average, they hit well. That his total
June statistics three twenty one average, three twenty one average,
three fifty three on base five thirty eight slugging, So
that is a that is an eight ninety one OPS,
which is which is good, not quite great, but at
(31:54):
least good. But here in the month of July three
h four average, thirty thirty three on base percentage, six
h nine slugging. So if you total these up, it
would be a nine to two OPS in July thus far.

So we'll see where that goes again. McKinstry just needs
to be a little bit, just needs to be more
consistent month by month with his offense. As of late,

he has not made any dumb base running mistakes as
of late compared to earlier this season, so but that
can tell you why he's uh, not quite making the
All Star Game unless he's unless he becomes a replacement
(33:07):
for an injured player or a player that's absent due
to other matters, whether it's personal or emergency something like that.
It could be anything. So I'm going to take a
sip of my water here and now the what We've
(33:30):
learned segment What do we learn in this episode of
the Michigan Sports Truth Podcast, Mason Appleton analytically, analytically isn't
as good of a free agent signing by the Red Wings.
Like we said, his offense percentile was good, but his
(33:53):
goal percentile just twenty three percent, like I said, has
even strength, defense just forty not good, and even strength,
but his penalty killing you. It could be a bit
of an asset from what I've read on X. But analytically,
(34:19):
his uh uh, his strengths and strengths and weaknesses and flaws,
so that that makes him not as good of assigning
by the Red Wings. And then the Pistons are still
trying to find a good player for Dennis Schroeder and
the player trade exception worth fourteen point three million dollars.

It could still be. It could still be Malik Monk
or somebody would just have to keep our eyes open.
And then Zach McKinstry, with his rough May month of
May at the at the plate just two hundred average
an ops of under seven hundred could be the reason

why Zach McKinstry is not an American League All Star.
