Truth Podcast. I'm Taylor Phillips, the creator and host. Man

(00:49):
oh man, it very very very very very special. Oh
my goodness, let's get to it right now. If you
can't handle any news, stats, research, or regarding any of
our teams, can stay completely away from the show and
its comments section of all time, at all times. But
this is not even about criticism tonight. It's about Surgey

(01:09):
Federoff Baby, our humongous top story that broke down this morning.
The Red Wings organization has announced that it finally plans
to retire Hall of Fame Center Sergei Federoff's jersey number
ninety one a top the rafters at Little Caesars Arena
on January twelve, twenty twenty six, that is, on a

(01:34):
pregame ceremony before the Red Wings face off against the
Carolina Hurricanes on January twelve, twenty twenty six. Of course,
Sergei Federoff won three Stanley Cups with the Wings in
nineteen ninety seven, nineteen ninety eight, and two thousand two
with Hashakol and Roboti, and then in two thousand and three,

(01:57):
after the Wings got swept in the first round by
the than Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Federov let for Anaheim and
the following off season, which left at least some Red
Wings fans feeling betrayed. But things lately nowadays have settled
in that category, and more and more fans urged for
this to occur, and it finally did today. This was

(02:22):
way long overdue, ten to fifteen years overdue, just to
range it more accurately, but my god, it was just way, way, way,
way way long overdue. Chris Silich, the owner, and his
family finally succumbed to the fans' consensus and made the
right decision to do so, and the Illages and Federov

(02:44):
just a long time ago just started not seeing eye
to eye after Federov left that two thousand and three
off season. It just the fact that the Red Wings
got swept by the mighty by the mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
Back then somehow spark a flame of conflict, a flame

(03:11):
of hate and controversy and disaster, all the chaos and
collusion and stuff. Oh my god. But now it took
years and years and years for all the fire and

(03:31):
dustin ashes to be settled down, And now here we are,
Federoff's jersey is getting retired finally after ten to fifteen years.
Federoffs has always been a Red Wing for life, of course.
He played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and then the
Washington Capitals. He retired in twenty ten. He was inducted

(03:55):
into the Hall of Fame during the twenty fourteen twenty
fifteen any you know, regular season, So to be fair,
that's like four and a half to five years apart
in between those two moments. But now it's finally going

(04:16):
to be done and over with. January twelve, twenty twenty six.
Let's like ten to fifteen or eleven to sixteen years
long overdue. So Federov has won many many trophies and
of course the three Stanley Cups that I mentioned. He

(04:36):
was a fast skater. He has a great skater. He
has a good goal scorer. He was the first Red
Wing ever to score five goals in a single game
with a five to four win in overtime over the
Washington Capitals at Joe Loo's Arena on December twenty sixth
of nineteen ninety six. That was the year. That was
in the season where the Red Wings finally won their

(04:58):
first Stanley Cup in forty two year in nineteen ninety seven.
Now after Sergei Federada, there are still more jersey numbers
to retire for the Red Wings. I would say next
Brendan Shanahan, because Brendan Shanahan was that final piece for

(05:19):
the Red Wings to add to that Stanley Cup winning
recipe prior to the ninety six ninety seven season. Since
then they won back to back Stanley Cups and they
won of course with Hashi Colin Robatai in the one
o two season. All those veterans, Steve Dushane, Frederick olisen

(05:40):
Ua croup Uri Slager, Chris Chelios. Of course, Chris Chelios
was acquired in the ninety eight off offseason. Of course,
well you get the idea. But Sergei Federoff again was

(06:04):
a big was one of the biggest pieces of the
of the Stanley Cup winning puzzle for the Red Wings.
So it was Brendan Shanahan, so it was Steve Eiserman,
Chris Hoskett was a part of it, Darren McCarty, Kurt Malty,
Chris Draper, the grindline. They remember Sgate, Federoff, everyone in

(06:24):
the Red Wings, including Mike Vernon, Kevin Hodson, Ken Reggitt,
Manny Legacy, Boy Devereux, Matthew Dandeno, all those guys in
that generation. Thomas Holmstrom, they've all known, Pavel dat Suit

(06:45):
even he worked with Federoff for two NHL seasons, the
O one O two season and the O two oh
three season. Yeah, they in general, they all new, they
all remember playing with Federal on the same team back

(07:05):
in the day, back in those glory days. Now, now
that that's going to be done and over with. During
this my god, I mean, had as not much reflection

(07:26):
on on today's Red Wings performance on the ice. But man,
sure feels good for fans everywhere, doesn't it. So leave
a comment. I know if leave a comment if you're
happy about Sergei Federalf's jersey number ninety one and finally
being planned to be finally being retired atop the raptors

(07:49):
at Little Caesars Arena on January twelve, twenty twenty six.
I can hardly wait to read them. If you're watching.
Let's get to some other news and other news Michigan
wolver Rings football program, where the Michigan wolver Rings football
program has recruited the number one running back save On

(08:15):
Hyder over Tennessee, Ohio, State and Georgia. Of course, Hyder
is five to eleven, two hundred pounds, the number one
player in the state of Virginia, the number one running
back in the country, and the number nine player overall
in the nation overall, and Michigan likes to run the

(08:39):
ball a lot, quote quote unquote, and guess what this
is that guy save On Hyder because he was the
under he was an under armour All American in twenty
twenty five. That's this year, all Central Virginia Player of
the Year and vh SL. That's Virginia High School League

(09:01):
Class five All State selection. In twenty twenty four, he
helped Luisa County go nine to three and twenty twenty
four cash in one hundred fifty six carries for one thousand,
six hundred and ninety eight rushing yards, ten point eight
yards per carry rushing yards per carry, and twenty six

(09:25):
and twenty six touchdowns, plus one hundred and ninety nine
receiving yards, fifty defensively, fifty six tackles defensively, including seven
sacks and one interception. Must have played in the secondary
from the secondary. Also three kickoff returns for touchdowns on

(09:47):
special teams. That's impressive. He was a two way player
in high school, of course, So analytically, from what I
ran an article for the Detroit Free Press, he's Hyder
is big enough to run through tackles and fast enough
to get to the outside with home run speed, and

(10:08):
he will play as a true freshman for now, although
Jordan Marshall and Justin's Justice Haynes could return to Michigan
for twenty twenty six. So your thoughts on Sean Hyder,
seveon Hyder. And then we got the Tigers. Oh my god,
oh my god, oh my god, Tigers that wont now

(10:32):
won five or the last six, six out of the
last seven games rather one tonight, one nothing in ten
innings over the Houston Astros. The bases are loaded, two outs,
glabor torre, glabor torres, bases loaded, walker to win it
to Mike Jones will walk a four pitch walk drawn

(10:54):
to load the bases to set that stage, of course.
And now the Tigers, as I hold I'm gonna as
I share the screen right about now, are nine games
up on the Cleveland Gardians and Kansas City Royals. Altogether,
Tigers are seventy five to fifty three, Guardians sixty four

(11:16):
and sixty Royals are sixty five and sixty one, twins
fifteen and a half back fifty and sixty seven. Yeah,
they don't deserve to make the playoffs. I'm sorry anyway.
So that's the Tiger's Truth Report. So the what We've

(11:37):
learned segment, What I've learned, what we've all learned. If
you're all watching this, Sergei Federof's jersey number ninety one
finally being planned to be retired by the Red Wings
organization has way long been overdue. Like I pointed out,
red Wing for Life won three Stanley Cups with the
Wings ninety seven ninety eight oh two, of course after

(12:05):
three people started not seeing eye to eye. But lately
things have settled. Fired a fired to ashes, dust to dust,
all settled into thin air, and now here we are
finally planning to get this all done and over all

(12:26):
said and done and over with. So that's what we've
learned in this episode of the Michigan Sports Truth Podcast.
