know the Truth. Taylor Phillips here, you're a Michigan Sports
Truth detective. Got a lot of things to talk about,

(00:52):
of course, Tiger's Lions, Red Wings, Pistons, Wolverines and Spartans.
Got them all covered. The Gang's all here. But first off,
our disclaimer. If you can't handle any news to news, stats,
research or criticism regarding any of our teams, then stay
completely away from the show and its comments section at
all times. So let's get to the Tigers, shall we. Yeah,

(01:18):
they're tied at one game apiece with the Seattle Matters
in the Alds. My god, both teams are duking it out.
Let's get that right. Wow, the Monday night football game

(01:45):
between the Chiefs and Jaguars is almost over. Why don't
we get this going right away? So that's let's recap
game one? Who Alio Rodriguez? Of course, it's an all

(02:12):
star three for five Carrie Carpenter with a two run
home run. Troy Mountain only allowed that. That home run
by Jay Rod went four innings. Lots of work by
that bullpen. The entire bullpen worked in the whole game.

(02:33):
Raffay al Montero of course allowed that tying run in
the six inning. That's an early blown say, but the
rest of the bullpen did Okay will Vest two strikeouts,
Kaider Montero with his first save, first career postseason save.

(02:58):
Zach McKinstry of all people, delivering the RBI single. Tigers
can only score two runs in regulation, both on Kirby.
George Kirby, that is, on six hits, one walk, eight strikeouts,
five innings pitched. It was an offensive struggle for both teams.

(03:25):
It really was. Trent Mountain finishes with one is now
a ten to thirty eight era in the postseason this year.
So the Tigers took Game one, whether they earn it

(03:47):
or stole it, whatever, whatever the case may be, a
wins a win. And then Game two the Maritors win
three to two in regular Spencer in a game where
Spencer Tolkosen tied the game with a two run single
on the top of the eighth, and then Jay Rod

(04:07):
again delivered with a game winning RBI single. Cal Raley
again the teeth of the lineup rally with a double
one for four, Jay Rod with a game winning RBI single.

(04:28):
He went one for four. He doesn't own Detroit, Adam Roff,
you arrogant Homer and fans and media complained about the
strike zone. How one player owns Detroit either grew up
or burn in hell. So sixteen strikeouts by the Tigers

(04:48):
offense in game one, ten in Game two, that tolls
up twenty six strikeouts. This is the entire al DS
thus far. So Game three, Jack Flaherty starts, Casey May
starts Game four. Game five schooble back in Seattle if necessary.
I think it's I think it's uh. I think Game

(05:15):
five is Uh, let me check the schedule. It's Friday,
that's right, Yeah, four forty. Game five is at four forty.
It necessary, but Game three four oh eight Tuesday late afternoon,
and then Wednesday at three oh eight Game four. But

(05:49):
if you look at those all god awful uh batting averages.
Winzel Parish fifty nine average one eighteen ops in the postseason,
Dylan Dingler OH fifty six average four to forty nine ops.
McKinstry still an OH sixty three banning average with a

(06:09):
three thirteen ops. Spencer Torkelsen won sixty seven average five
seventy ops. Labor Torres just one ninety, just a one
ninety average four ninety nine ops.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
We expect more.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
We expect a lot more for him as a as
an All Star, as a veteran, at least carry Carpenter's
hitting two seventy eight with a nine to thirty five ops.
Where's Jami Jones at huh? Banning triples here with a
five hundred ops thus far in the postseason, got one

(06:47):
walk in Game one, but that was it. Javier Bias
three sixteen average just but just a seven to eighteen OPS.
Going into the Alds, he had a four fifty five
average and a one thousand ops. P Parker Meadow's two

(07:11):
hundred average four thirty eight ops.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, that's all I have.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
So Cal Rowley for forty four average, one thousand ops.
Jay Rod four forty four average, what one thousand, three
hundred thirty thirteen thirty three average at thirteen thirty three ops.
Jorge Polanco three seventy five average, fifteen hundred ops, and

(07:46):
we get Then we got Mitch Garver three thirty three
average but a six but just a six sixty six ops.
Wicked number, but still not a good ops whatsoever? Hmmm.
So Riley, j Ron and Polanco are the teeth of

(08:06):
the lineup. Polanco went three for four Finnegan, despite taking
the loss, giving up that game winning run on three
heads two thirds of inning. Still as a one ninety
three e RA, he was clearly overused in the postseason.

(08:27):
He needs a rest. Brand Herger four fifty e RA
A Trek Scubel one eighty four e r A, nine strikeouts,
just one walk to both the two runs on five
hits and seven innings pitched. Scuba was bailed out by

(08:47):
Torklsen's two run single, but lots of pitches were near
the strike zone that are too close, that are too
close to take, and fans are too too premature to
learn about it. In today's world. There are a lot
of homers in there. That's why, that's why there's something

(09:08):
that's the thing that's fishery with team fan bases and
local media nowadays. M hm. So with that being said,
series is tied at a game apiece. Jaguars just beat

(09:33):
the Chiefs. Couldn't get the final score, but I'll get
it later anyway. The Detroit Lions jumped out to what
twenty eight to three lead, had to survive a comeback

(09:59):
up to two twenty eight to seventeen, but that was secure.
That was held off by an Isaac Teslat touchdown another
one at that he should get more playing time to

(10:19):
pretty much ice it all.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
But ice it.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Lions went thirty seven to twenty four at Pey Corps
Stadium over the Bengals in Cincinnati to improve the four
and one going to share the screen again by a streamyard,
two penalties on Tarry on terryon Arnold, two pass breakups.

(10:45):
The defense was off to a hot start but then
tailed off in the second half. Special that fourth quarter
Jake Browning and Jamar Chase finally found their magic with
the Lion's defense completely disappeared. But three easy interceptions and

(11:06):
a few good pass breakups. Defense. Right there, there's the defense.
Pass defended, passes defended one for Am Robertson, two by Joseph,
three by Anceloni, two by Rocky Scene. Of course the
two I mentioned by terry On Arnold. But just one,

(11:29):
just one one total, let alone solo sack.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
But terry On Arnold has been committing way too many penalties.
M hm.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Hm hm mhm.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
And then he got then he got h injured badly.
So arry On Arnold sacked. He's not He's a liability.
Most fans don't want to admit that. But but Arnold

(12:12):
keeps committing penalties. There are a lot of Lions fans
that are aware of that, while other will other Homer
fans just toddle the hell out of Tarryon Arnold. And
and from what I'm hearing, tarry On Arnold maybe out

(12:33):
for the rest of the season. But uh, Dan Campbell's
Lion's head coach, Dan Campbell is not quite sure of
that yet officially. But you got but you got Meek Robertson,
Brian Branch, Kirby, Joseph rock Gass, Scene, Trey Flowers, and
Nick Whiteside all available on the secondary. Still you still
got those guys. They can play much cleaner than Terry

(12:58):
On Arnold.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, m hmm.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Jack Campbell eleven tackles, Derek Barnes eight tackles, including a
sack for a safety. The primum to uh. Then I
sit Bangals with the free kick, amand Ross Saint Brown
with the recovery with the free kick recovery catch to

(13:26):
end it. And according to Darko State and according to
Justin Spiro, I want to get as I get back
to Terry on Arnold first for a split minute, let's

(13:51):
take a look at the profile here.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Terry On Arnold has allowed a ninety three point seven
passer rating when targeted in his career. That's one hundred
and twenty among all players in that span in a
minimum of thirty targets. He also has the most penalties
and most defensive penalty yardage in the NFL. Sorry, but
he has been objectively bad that. Yes, Spiro did some

(14:31):
homework there, well, Stephen, Stephen Bullock only did the wrong
kind of research right there with Taryann and Arnold and
without Tarryan Arnold. Yeah, all these numbers right there, as

(14:57):
you can see on the screen sharing. But still the penalties,
they just kill everything. The most penalties and defensive penalty
yarded and the most defensive penalty yards in the NFL. Yes,

(15:25):
Screw Woodward spurt what word sports? There are a bunch
of homers too. So the Lions head to Kansas City
to play the struggling Kansas City, struggling former back to
back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. And then you

(15:48):
get the Michigan Wolverines beating the Wisconsin Badgers twenty four
to ten in a defensive slug fest. Wisconsin struck first,
but Michigan, again always bouncing back, tied it up and

(16:13):
then led ten seven at halftime. About Donovan's Donamic's Dominic
Savada missing a chip shot field goal, by the way,
he's just messed up. He only messed up. Okay, stop
over panicking, Okay, all right, Justice Haynes again. Two touchdowns,

(16:37):
Donald McCauley a twenty nine yard touchdown pass from Bryce Underwood.
Mccully's been been shining as of late. One hundred and
twelve receiving yards. Take a look at the kicking. I

(17:05):
want to take a look at the dynamic Somata Savannah
is eight for still, eight for eleven yeah, two for three,
uh from twenty to twenty nine yards out, two for
three from thirty to thirty nine yards down, and then

(17:27):
three for four from forty to forty to forty nine
yards down, one for one from fifty plus as long
as it's fifty six. So he's only missed one in
each of those ranges, so he's not missing at all.
So all three of his misses are so not all
three of his misses are not in chip Shop field
goal range. In case someone thought he'd thought they were

(17:59):
do better research, please like I'm doing. Please, huh.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Come on.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Warren's proved to four and one bryce under what nineteen
to twenty eight hundred and seventy passing yards a touchdown
no interceptions is sixty seven point one quarterback rating.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
M hm hm. Taking a look at the Take a
look at the Facebook m hm.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Hm.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, Tiffany luck at another coddle or terror on Arland.
I'm just gonna give her to the screenshot right there.
I'm just in spirow.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
People don't people don't understand people just coddle, tearan arrold
way too many times. Just mhm freaking leave already back

(19:54):
on Michigan, Wisconsin. Michigan is gonnah Michigan of course going
to uh the USC at seven thirty on NBCY.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
And and Peacock.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
And then you get the Nabrat the Michigan State Spartans,
let least, should stop the screen sharing for a bit.

(20:44):
Heavily disagree my ass anyway. The Spartans lose to the
Cornhowskers thirty eight to twenty seven. Jonathan head coach Jonathan
Smith said that the team the Spartans got out coached,
outplayed everything else. Nebraska jumped out to a fourteen nothing lead,

(21:12):
MSU came back and led twenty one to fourteen, and
then twenty four almost unanswered points cost the Spartans just
lack of defense there then the Malavasovic one yard touchdown
quarterback keeper in garbage time with two to one left

(21:54):
just eighty five yards passing by eighteen childs twenty three
Alessio Milajat Milavakovic six of seven for seventy one passing yards,
but that's it. But ninety nine point four quarterback reading
Milavakovich has such an excellent backup quarterback. He looked like

(22:19):
it was comfortable in the pocket. Chiles was trying to
do too much. He felt uncomfortable except he except Child's
got two touchdown quarterback keepers on thirteen carries for just
twenty three yards. Mil Ivasovic a touchdown keeper from just
one yard up, from just one yard out, a passing

(22:43):
touchdown to Jack Velling. Yeah, he's a tight end. That's
what I thought. Of course, Jordan of course, the defense

(23:09):
not very many tackles, just forty nine, but at least
Jordan Hall came up with it with an interception. Couldn't
couldn't definitely could not contain Dylan Reyola sixteen to twenty
four run or ninety four passing yards, a touchdown, an interception,

(23:30):
just an eighteen point nine quarterback rating, and Nebraska's still
found a way to win. MSU still found a way
to lose. They're three and two, Nebraska's four and one.
Ms U is er two in the Big Ten. Nebraska's
one and one of the Big Ten.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Fans.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
I am not screwing around, Okay, I'm not screwing around

(24:13):
m HM, So I mess you is gonna return home
to play Ucla Saturday at noon on the Big ten network. HM.
Take a look at the full schedule, and then a

(24:36):
week from Saturday they go to Indiana for the against
the Hoosiers number seven for the brass spit to him,
and then then state rivalry game against against Michigan in
East Lands at number fifteen. Yeah, yeah, I almost forgot
to mention the wolver Rings jump from twenty to fifteenth
with that big win over big win over Wisconsin. So

(25:01):
with that being said, it's time for the first twenty
twenty five to twenty twenty six segment called as the
Wing Wheel turns. The Red Wings Wave defenseman Justin Hall
and Eric Gustafson. They cleared waivers to and were sent

(25:24):
down to Grand Rangles to make room for Fords, Emmitt
Finny and Michael Bransick nieguard and defenseman Axel sandin Pelica.
As we take a look at the roster, I'm gonna
share the screen yet again. Justin Hall a signed and released. Yeah,

(25:47):
he cleared waivers assigned to Grand Rapids the Griffins. Michael
Bransick kneeguard at right, wing, Emmitt Finne at center, and
then we got Axel Sandin Pelican on defense along with
Jacob Bernard, Docker got Travis Hammonik. Eric Gustafson is still

(26:09):
on the roster, but he's waved and sent to Grand Rapids,
and of course John Gibson and Cam Talbot as their goalies.
James Van Riemsdyke was placed on the non roster list
due to the non injuried non roster list on the

(26:29):
due to family matters. Well, shy Bum and Nate Danielson
are both injured, So there's that. And then finally some
breaking news. The Pistons opened their preseason with a one
twenty eight to one twelve win over the Memphis Grizzlies
at FedEx Forum. I'm going to share the screen one

(26:53):
more time. Pistons had fifty five rebounds, Grizzlies only had
Grizzlies only had thirty eight. Oh man, so uh, Grizzlies,

(27:18):
uh just took right over. But in the first quarter,
but the Pistons made a really Pistons, what can we say,
fifty to twenty two, outscoring the Grizzlies in the second quarter. Wow,
that's by twenty eight. Pistons lead led seventy four to

(27:44):
sixty six at halftime. I know this one doesn't count,
but my goodness, that's that's a hell of a comeback
by those Pistons. Huh so a bit of a slow star.
But even though it doesn't county, they had a hell

(28:05):
of a they had a hell of a game. Paul
Reid plus twenty eight. That's really good. Twelve rebounds, five points.
Kate Cunningham twenty points, just three rebounds, forces two steals,
eight of eleven shooting two for three from three, two

(28:27):
for three from the charity strike. Tobias Harris thirteen points
on five to seven. Ron Holland Junior three of six,
got nine points in plading one for three from three,
two for two from the charity strike. To Louse Smith

(28:49):
eleven point, eleven points and eleven rebounds. That's a double
double off the bench on four to six shooting but
three for seven from the stripe. So he's got to
work on his free throw shooting, as you can. As
you can see on the s on the shared screen

(29:10):
via stream yard from ESPN dot com. Marcus Saster also
eleven points, four assists, no rebounds, but three of five
shooting one for three from three, four for five from
the charity stripe. It's not too bad. Small numbers, but
small sample size in fourteen minutes, but not bad. They

(29:35):
got Kris Sliver in eighteen minutes just two points minus six,
one for eight, oh for four, So Levert's got.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
To wake up.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Duncan Robinson ten points, five rebounds, four for eight, two
or six. I'd say average numbers. Those are average numbers.
Isaiah start Points five to seven, four rebounds minus nineteen.
Jn Ivy in his return from a severe injury seven points,

(30:12):
two of five one for one for one from three,
two for two from the charity stripe, one rebound, one rebound,
one assists. Three turnovers, Yeah, got to count the turnovers.
I almost forgot. Twenty two turnovers in that game to
eighteen for Memphis. So Pistons still having some trouble with

(30:37):
the having some trouble with ball security, so they got
to work. That's another thing the Pistons have got to
work on. So with that being said, that that's all
of our teams, so though what we've learned segment. The
Tigers again continued to be a strikeout machine, twenty strikeouts

(31:00):
in two games sixteen in Game one ten in Game two,
the Lions had to survive a comeback. They need to
clean up their defense. Only three only three drop passes
by the offense, so it's not perfect, but they did
clean it up. They just have to to keep that

(31:25):
going and clean up the defense. Heading into Arrowhead Stadium
Sunday Night Football on NBC. And they don't need Terry
on Arnold any longer actually, because he's been a liability.
Fans keep coddling him and not even admitting it. Sure

(31:50):
there were a couple of them were questionable, but still
just four pass defenses by Tryon Arnold this season. Mm hmm.
That's two of them this past Sunday. I get that.

(32:11):
That's good, but still I want him. I want arl
to prove more to me. And and playing clean proved
up a cleaner game to me.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Mm hmmm mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
And then the Red Wings they made the right moves,
sending Holland Gussison down, placing uh Finny Branson Negard, and
sanding Pelagon on the opening night roster as the Red
Wings open their season at Little Caesars Arena against the

(32:52):
Montreal Canadians on Thursday. In a season where on January twelfth.
They also keep in mind also the retiring Sergei Federof's
jersey number ninety one January twenty, January twelfth, twenty twenty
six against the Carolina Hurricanes and then the Pistons big

(33:13):
good win, good preseason win. I know it doesn't count.
They still need to work harder and work smarter with
ball security twenty two turnovers, but keep up that good
keep up that good rebounding though. So that's what we've

(33:34):
learned in this episode of the Michigan Sports Truth Podcast.
