Speaker 6 (02:14):
What's great to have you on board. Howard.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
So, you're multi talent singer, songwriter with being born and
raised in Missouri, have a background is a paramedic, firefighter, policeman, chileroproctor, investigator,
cattle rancher, and morm You were born and raised in Missouri,
and you've also been featuring in the United States, United Kingdom,
also in Australia and also Canada and good portions of
(02:37):
the world and loyal File and Spotify, YouTube and more.
And you have some music like on the Edge with
you and more. Will be featuring the song called what
the Hell is Happening for Gunna? Howard tell us how
he first got started.
Speaker 7 (02:50):
Okay, so, well, way back.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
Machine, Howard, way back.
Speaker 7 (02:54):
We're going way back. Well, you know, I mean, I
guess back when I was a teenage you know, I
listened to a lot of the music on the radio,
back in the days when the Beatles came across then
and the Stones, and you know, picked up a guitar,
started playing guitar, been in bands since I was in
(03:17):
junior high, you know, and just eventually started. I wrote
my first song I think when I was about thirteen
or fourteen, and I've been right and ever since, you know.
And over the years, you know, I've changed genres. I've
gone from kind of like folky to really rock to
(03:39):
punk rock, and now over the last ten or so years,
I've just pretty much focused on country.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Okay, sounds like you had an amazing array as well too,
and was at one precise moment that exactly influenced you
into what you do in the rest of.
Speaker 6 (03:54):
Your career.
Speaker 7 (03:56):
As far as music you're talking about that.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
I mean just just your career. It's like, what's that
one light bulb. I want to simply said, this is
what I'm gonna do for re us of my life.
Speaker 7 (04:06):
Oh, I've done, like you said in the intro, I've
done so many things that the music. I have been
doing that all the time, despite whether I was a
medic or a cop or an investigator. I always played music,
always in a band or always playing solo or something,
and always. As I became you know, older, a little
(04:27):
bit older than adult, I was writing too, so you know,
i'd be working a day job or nights depending on whatever,
whatever public safety sector i'd be working in. I'm still
writing music playing my guitar.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
That is certainly amazing.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
And besides the Beatles and the Stones, you were listening
to her some of my other favorite singer songwriters and
musicians growing up.
Speaker 7 (04:48):
I'm a big fan of Tom Petty, Eagles, Poco, I like,
you know, the kind of country rockets back from the
seventies and eighties.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
I remember Poco there horrific trick band.
Speaker 7 (05:01):
But Bob Seeker I am kind of influenced by lou Reid.
I don't know if you're familiar with who lou Reid is.
It goes back into the sixties and seventies.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
But right walk Walk on the wild Side, I remember that.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
Yeah, that was probably his only like really a commercial song.
But he was kind of like, I mean, along the
lines of a very dark Bob Dylan, you know, because
he was very poetic and he hung out in the day,
had a band called the Velvet Underground and they hung.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Around with I remember that that and John and was
it John Kayler JJ.
Speaker 7 (05:35):
They kind of were hanging around in the factory with
Andy Warhol, that whole crowd. But you know him and
you know, and for for several years, I would really
liked Iggy Pop. I don't know if you're familiar with
Iggy and the Stooges and.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Correct, yeah, correct, yeah, And I and I read I
read a thing about as well too. Da Have a
Boy is known to be a big, massive number of
things that evolution I used to beginning with this, that
was that the story I was reading about David boy
that Iggy Pop was more like an alternative David boy
So in reality, it's like that was really David Boye.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
It's more like an alter ego.
Speaker 7 (06:13):
Yeah, they they collaborated some stuff and uh and of
course lou Reid's dead and Bowie's dead, but Iggy Pop,
despite what he used to do on stage, is still alive.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
M right, yeah, yeah, transforming making people his image and everything.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
So certainly one of the best in the business as
well too.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Of course, you know, you being a paramedic, firefire policeman
all that, which one of these careers you started first,
and then you can just work your way over to
what careers you've been doing as well.
Speaker 7 (06:47):
I started out as a paramedic and became friends with
a lot of cops and became a cop. And I
was a cop for twenty two years and transition to
corporate investment stigations for another fifteen and then retired and
started raising cattle in the country.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Okay, and what was that moment that you wanted to
be a paramax them shifting over to being a policeman.
Speaker 7 (07:14):
Well, you know, a lot of my friends were cops,
and I was young, and I and at this point,
I look back, I'm thinking maybe that was dumb, but
you know, it seemed like we were responding after the fact,
after the shit hit the fan, and I was I
was young, and like, man, I want to be there
when the ship hits a fan. So that's when I
transitioned into being a cop and ended up. You know,
(07:37):
whether it was a good move or not, I mean
it certainly.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
All those careers have offered a pretty wide palette from
which to draw material for songs. So and you know,
when I was working a lot of law enforce and
paramedic stuff, a lot of my songs were more dark
and had, you know, experiences that happened around those activities.
(08:02):
And now that I'm kind of mellow and doing country stuff,
it's a lot easier.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
It sounds like it too.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
And whate was that one event that really stood out
in your mind too? Like being a policeman, paramedic, firefighter,
or you know, whatever it is. I can investigate what
were some of the things that you were involved in
that really stood out, you know, exciting, tragic or am
able to a humor and everything.
Speaker 7 (08:28):
So well, I mean, I was fortunate enough over my
career to be assigned to a bunch of task force
cases at the state and federal level. So uh, you know,
I was a member of a homicide squad, and then
I was a member of a DEA task force and
working with alcohol atf and then after nine to eleven,
(08:50):
I was on some terrorism task force. So I guess
when the rubber hits the road, I have to see
say that I saw a lot of interesting and things
probably better left unseen, you know, for your psychological health,
so to speak. But you know, so you deal with it,
you know. And some of some of that stuff came
(09:11):
out in music, you know.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Right, And of course you had some songs too, like
on the edge with you. Everybody want something I was
in always like this and one of them will be
talking about near the end of the show at Howard Levinson.

We're amazing multi talent singer, son and writer with the
background and paramedic, firefighter, policemen and morem all kinds of experiences.
How are eleventh Son here on Mike Wader's show? And
before we talk about your your last released what the
hell is Happening? Would be playing the all your version
of the end of the interview. We encourage all he's
doing to that you got some music out there, like
on the Edge with you and everybody wants something and
(12:16):
tell us more about those and what inspired to write them.
Speaker 7 (12:20):
Those are some of the more recent songs I've written
with you is uh, it's kind of a it's a
spiritual song. I've got kind of a I've got a
few songs in the spiritual genre, and that one's uh,
you know, with you, I win it's you know, it's
about redemp. It's about redemption and you can plug in
(12:40):
whatever you choose to be you, you know, whether it's
you know, God, Jesus, you know, Mohammad, whoever, whoever strikes
your fancy as your uh huh right, that's the you
and that song So on the edge, this little song
I wrote during COVID, and you know everybody was pis
stuff about everything back then, so I.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
Oh, yeah, that was just unbelievable. Oh my god, Yes.
Speaker 7 (13:06):
It was a mess. So I wrote a song about
a guy that's pissed off, who wasn't pissed off about COVID,
just generally pissed off, and he ends up, you know,
going on the run and on the edge. So anyway,
just a couple of those are a couple more of
the recent songs I've written.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Uh, and plus you also have another one too called
I Wasn't always like this. You've got you more popular
ones like still Small Voice and Truck's Guns, Girls, Money
and Beer. Tell us more about that.
Speaker 7 (13:34):
Well, the Truck's Call, that's a you know, it's a
bro country song, you know, and it's, uh, it's just
kind of like about your favorite things, you know. So
your bro country got Truck's Guns, Girls, money and beer.
And and then you know, because I've got this background
that we talked about, I kind of threw a twist
in there to where there's also kind of like a
body and Clyde spin to it. Tour.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
Oh yeah, that's right.
Speaker 7 (13:56):
Now. I like Truck's Guns, Girls, Money and Beer, but
they're on the run too, you know, m right.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
And plus you've got everybody's got their own version of
God cut one. We all bleed and go fast on
Saturday night, and tell us more about those.
Speaker 7 (14:10):
Let's see go fast on Saturday Night. That's a NASCAR song,
you know about about a kid who builds builds a
race car and all he wants to do is drive fast.
So he wants to go fast on Saturday night. And
if you're a gearhead, that songs for you because we
talk about pistons and rings and setting the heads on
the car and things like that. I wasn't always like this,
(14:30):
you know. I chatted up, like I'm sure you guys
have by you there's corners where there are people panhandling,
and a lot of them have cardboard signs that say
homeless veteran and we'll work for food.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
I see those all the time, especially on I ninety four.
If you're a head towards Fargo, if you're going east,
or if you're going west towards some towards Billings, I
see that a lot.
Speaker 7 (14:53):
Yes, And so we got some here around in Missouri,
and I chatted up one of those guys and we
got to talking. You know, no, I asked him what
was your mos you know, military occupation, you know, just
to make sure he wasn't scamming me, and he knew,
and he was an infantry man and we talked, and
you know, he's homeless, and he said, you know, I
wasn't always like this man. You know, I made a
(15:14):
house and family and kids, and you know, and he
had the typical story where multiple deployments and the VA,
you know, gave him pills but not enough counseling, and
he lost his house, lost his wife and kids, and
you know, he's on the corner. So I wrote a
song kind of dedicated to those guys, saying, you know,
(15:34):
I wasn't always like this. I was you know, I
was somebody just like you too. So you know I
dedicated to those guys, especially when I played out loud,
you know, right.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
And plus he also got and also I'm a sinner,
you're a saint, and everything I like is killing me.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
And tell us about that one.
Speaker 7 (15:53):
Well, you if you've got vices in bad habits, more
than likely you like your vices in bad habits, and
more than like they're not good for you, and if
you overdo them, they will probably kill you at some point.
So I wrote a little country diddy that's just a
humorous little song about hey, man, everything I like is
killing me. And at the end, the guy's going up
(16:13):
to Saint Peter, and then Saint Peter's asking him, you know,
what are you doing here? And he says, well, you know,
everything I like kill me.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
I think there's a big laundry less on that one,
and what kills you and everything. If I am at
a list, i'd be in serious trouble.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
Yeah, yeah, we all do.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah, right, yeah, And of course you have no one
too that it's now that you're gone, I'm going to
town and tell us about that one.
Speaker 7 (16:41):
You know. I just was on a little motorcycle ride
to Sturgees, South Dakota, you know, and I was in
a campfire and talking to this lady at the campfire,
and she was telling me how her husband died, and
I said, sorry to hear that, and then she said,
you know, he died and I went to the doctor
and I got off my blood pressure medicine. I said, well,
that's good, and you're getting healthier, I guess. And then
(17:02):
she said, and since he's died, I've been going to town.
Since he's been gone, I've been going to town. So
I thought, man, that sounds like a hook line to
the song now that You're Gone, I'm going to town.
So I'm my way back from Sturgis. Every time we
stop and get gas or beer or something, I'd take
me out a little piece of paper and write a
lyric down. But by the time I got back to
Missouri had a lot of the song done, went to
(17:25):
finish it up, went to Nashville, recorded it, and since
it's a girl talking about now that You're gone, I'm
going to town, I had a girl singer, So if
you pick it up on Spotify, it's not me singing.
It's a girl singer out in Nashville. But it's just
her story about, you know, hey, now that you're gone,
I'm going to town.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
Or it could be a good thear bad thing. What
do you think on that one?
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Maybe he's subject to interpretation or experiences.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
It's a good thing for her, you know, it's kind
of a bad thing for the guy. The reason why
he's gone. I won't be a spoiler as to what
happens to him, but anyway.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Right exactly, And of course it's leads up to the
song we're going to play in the Mike Widners show
at the end.
Speaker 6 (18:02):

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Tuned into the Mike Wagner Show.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
You heard me.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Went back to the multitown singer songwriter Howard Levinson. I
was Central Missouri here the Mike Waidner Show, and let's
talk about the song we're gonna play. Yeah, at the
end of the audio interview, what the hell is happening?
And tell us more about that. Basically, my question is,
what the hell is happening?
Speaker 7 (21:38):
Well, it's it's it's kind of a bro guy song
and it kind of the it started when uh, it's
hanging around with the same group of guys for the
last thirty years. You know, we all ride motorcycles and stuff,
and most of the guys have been through a divorce,
you know, and one guy's had to go to court
and he kind of got you know, he got what
(22:00):
he got in court. You know, it didn't work out
so well for him. So he walks out and we're
sitting around having a beer, and he goes, man, I
don't know what the hell is happening, but you know,
I figured, man, that's kind of fodder for a song.
So I wrote a song about what happens to a guy.
He ain't the greatest guy, so maybe getting what he deserved,
but it's what the hell happened.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
To him exactly. And I have to say that's what's
going on with the world today and everything. If there's
other music we haven't covered, feel free to talk about that.
Speaker 7 (22:29):
Yeah. I mean, it's just a matter of as I,
as I get older, I change genres. Like I said earlier,
I've been writing a few more spiritually based songs and
not so many bro country stuff, you know. So right
now I'm working on a song now called All Fall Down,
(22:51):
in which basically, you know, we're all we all fall down,
we all make mistakes. And I got another one I'm
working on where it's a it's actually based on a
song that happened in my my in real life with
my mom. I didn't know my mom for many many
years until I was a teenager. I didn't even know
she had a first husband. Well, she had a first
(23:13):
she had a first husband that got killed in World
War Two and before she married my dad. So I'm
writing a song now about that called first Love, you know,
like a secret first love. So it's kind of like
getting away kind of from the the bro country stuff
and moving into a little mellower More type genre.
