(00:19):
Hello everybody, Julian Charles here oftheMIND Renewed dot Com, coming to you
as usual from the depths of theLancashire countryside here in the UK, and
welcome to TMR number three hundred andten. Account suspended. Excuse the drama
there, but it was rather dramatic, and I'm going to apologize for that
title, but it's a reflection ofwhat happened to me a few weeks back,
(00:42):
and I thought I would pass onsome of the alarm at the beginning
of this podcast. I'll explain moreabout that in the moment. Let me
also say that, of course youcan probably hear the trudging feet and the
breeze and the birds singing overhead.Well, I'm out and about having a
walk in the sunshine. Yes,we've actually got some sunshine. Wonderful,
(01:03):
and I thought maybe it'd be agood idea to speak in this way out
and about, instead of being stuckin a spare bedroom speaking behind a microphone
in the dull when it could beoutside. So this is what I'm doing,
having my constitutional as it were, and also having a chat with you
all to explain what's been going on. And that's another reason why I'm doing
this. I suspect that the majorityof you don't know what's been going on,
(01:27):
because, of course only a smallsubset of listeners will actually go to
the mind you Need website to checkout the schedule page, which is where
I've been leaving notes. Most peopleget their podcasts, you know, from
podcasts services, etc. And veryseldom actually visit the website fair enough,
so I thought I would do thisto explain what's been going on so that
(01:49):
you all are up to speed. So what happened was at the beginning of
April. I think it was thefifth of April. I was ready to
post the doctor Gary Siddley interview, nudges nudges everywhere, all edited up,
ready to go, and I wentto the computer, opened up the browser,
navigated to themindreneude dot com and expected, of course, to open up
(02:14):
the administrator page do all the bitsand pieces, get it published, And
instead I was greeted with this messageaccount suspended right across the page, most
unpleasant, with a gray icon ofhead and shoulders with a cross next to
it, and some supposedly helpful clarificationwhich was no helpful clarification whatsoever. This
(02:36):
account has been suspended, as ifit could be talking about some other account
when I just visited the mind Renewedand some other equally unhelpful advice contact your
hosting provider for more information, whichof course is what I did, and
I explained about that in just amoment. But of course I was alarmed
by this, and my heart ratewent up, and I thought, oh,
no, what does this mean?Does this mean that the Mind Renewed
(02:57):
has been taken down for quote unquotecontent violation? Is that what's happened?
You know, have the powers thatbe decided that the goalposts have shifted on
so called misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, and AI has discovered that something needs
to be taken down from my websitein order for the service to continue,
you know, my hosting provider coveringtheir backs as it were. Well,
(03:22):
I thought in those terms, becauseI've had like so many people videos taken
down on YouTube for such reasons. You know, they've been there for donkeys
years and then it's just decided thatit goes against the policy and they've been
taken down. So I thought, well, is that what's happened here with
the Mind Renewed? So what Ieventually got through how you know. I
(03:43):
contacted the hosting provider, went throughthe technographic system of choosing between one,
two and three depending on the serviceI want, and then going to the
next menu of choices and listening tomusic endlessly. Oh there's a train going
by, you see, I'm notquite in the depths, after all,
I am in the Languashire country side, but not so much in the depths
that you don't get trains. Anyway, I'll let that go past. Yeah,
(04:03):
so listen to a lot of musicin my ears, you know,
you know how it goes. Andeventually I spoke to a real person,
which was great, and he didn'tdisabuse me of my concerns. He said,
oh, yeah, it's probably acontent violation. Oh here we go.
Anyway, he went away several minutesof listening to this dreadful music,
(04:24):
and eventually he came back and saidto me, oh, no, it's
not actually that at all. Whatit is is that you are storing on
the server a lot of media files, a growing archive of MP three files,
and the hosting service is not designedfor that. Now that's news to
me, of course, because I'vebeen doing this for almost twelve years.
(04:44):
Nobody ever complained there was never madeclear to me in the beginning that I
was not supposed to do that, and they never told me in the intervening
years that there was any problem withthat. So this was totally news to
me. And the bad news atthe time was what he said to me,
Well, you're going to have totake down You're going to have to
delete those audio files from the server, otherwise the hosting provider is going to
(05:09):
put up this account suspended message again, because of course he unsuspended the website
pending this deletion. So I askedhim, well, you know what can
I do about this? And hesuggested that maybe I could shift all the
audio files over to a different hostingprovider dedicated to podcasts, which would mean,
(05:30):
of course that I'd have to hostingservices to pay for, and that
I would have to do something likeupload all the files somewhere else and then
use a widget or something to connectmy website pages to those podcasts using some
code. I thought, well, this is going to take hours and hours
and hours and hours of inputting codeinto pages that the mind you need websites.
(05:55):
This is going to cost more, and it's going to take a vast
amount of work this could spell theend of TMRS. So it was quite
concerning anyway, so I decided torelax a bit, have a coffee,
think about it, and then Ithought, I know, I will contact
the web technician that I've been dealingwith for quite a few years and he's
been so helpful, has rescued TMRfrom oblivion a couple of times before,
(06:19):
and see what he has to say. And what he had to say was
the answer. It turns out thathe was able to host the mind renewed,
so it now is hosted with him. And his explanation for what happened
was that basically, this big hostingprovider was just just decided that they couldn't
(06:45):
make enough money out of people likeme. We had too much stuff on
their server and they wanted rid ofus. Really, that was his theory.
I don't know whether it's true,but that's what he thought. So
as it happens now, I'm actuallymore happy with the service as it stands.
It costs less and it seems towork more efficiently when I upload things.
(07:06):
When I use the sort of backend file manager to organize things at
the website, it's easier to accessand it's quicker, so I'm quite pleased
with it. The only change itwas a bit rocky of course to start
with, you know, shifting fromone provider to another. For about forty
eight hours, the website was allover the place and bits of it were
appearing and bits of it disappearing, and that was not very nice. But
it's all settled down now. Butthere is one thing that's changed, and
(07:30):
that is that there are links onthe website that don't work, and I'm
not sure I can get rid ofall those links. That's just a feature
of the transition really, because yearsago I decided to provide a high quality
audio file at one hundred and twentyeight killer bytes per second and a lower
quality one of forty eight kilo bytesper second or sixty four kilobytes per second.
And the reason for that was atthe time, I was aware that
(07:53):
a lot of people were downloading lowerquality files because download rates were much lower
decade ago, and MP three playersonly could hold so much information, et
cetera, so much data. SoI thought that was the thing to do,
and I've been providing those files eversince. But quite honestly, now
with things having technologically moved on somuch, I don't know whether anybody is
(08:16):
actually accessing those lower quality files,so there is a little bit less space
for me on the new hosting service. So I thought, let's just not
have those anymore. And that hasmeant that there are links on the website
now that go to a four orfour page. So if you click on
those lower quality MP three links, they'll just go to four or four And
(08:37):
I shall try to get rid ofas many of those as I can working
backwards. You know, I don'tthink I'll get rid of them all,
but that's just a vestage, youknow, that's a legacy of the way
things used to be. But Idon't think it's a really much real problem.
So that really is it. Tobring you up to speed with what's
been preoccupying me really for the lastmonth. Now I can get back to
(08:58):
the business of pod casting and hopefully, well god willing, nothing else will
crop up like that for quite awhile. So yeah, thank you for
joining me on this little walk. All the wind has considerably died down,
the sun is very strong, I'mgetting quite hot. The birds are still
singing, and you have been listeningto me. Julian Charles off themindnewede dot
com, and I very much lookforward to speaking to you again in the
(09:22):
very near future. God willing bysomething else happens, let's hope not by
bye. Podcast music by the brilliantAnthony Rayjakov. Attribution non commercial share like
